Can the Philadelphia Eagles sustain their success as they are coming off a Super Bowl win and dominant 2024 season. This year, there are questions persisting about this team that appears to still be a top contender in the NFC. This week, Ed Kracz from Philadelphia Eagles Today at S.I. joined us for a dive into these questions. It was a fantastic discussion!
But first, the guys dove into some Philly sports history, specifically about the Phillies and their history. (Approx. 5:30)
From there, they discussed how the Phillies front office should be handling any trade(s) before the deadline on July 31st? While they acquired David Robertson, should they try to trade for another bullpen arm? Should they get another bat in the lineup?(Approx. 10:10)
The guys then had a great discussion that focused on their new Top-3 list: the top-3 athletes who played in Philly for 4 seasons or less, but had a huge impact on their team.. (Approx. 26:20)
Then the guys got into some NFL talk as training camp has started around the league. What storylines will they be following this upcoming season? (Approx. 53:05)
What the guys threw down on the Table this week was a great, in-depth discussion with Ed Kracz from Philadelphia Eagles at S.I. about questions we’re asking about the Birds heading into this season. What kind of leader and coach will Kevin Patullo become early this season? Will the injury bug be detrimental for various positions? Will we see some holes on defense as key players are no longer on this team? All of this and much more this week on the Table! (Approx. 1:04:30)

Speaker 1 (00:42):
Welcome to the Philadelphia Sports Table podcast show, the longest
running weekly Philly sports podcast show in the world, twelve
years strong. We got a great show coming your way
this week. My gosh, I wish we were recording the
past thirty five minutes. Actually probably not the best idea
given the subject matter we were talking about. It could
have been its own show and we would have blown up.

(01:03):
I think we would have actually blown up. The podcast,
would have blown up.

Speaker 2 (01:07):
Our lives would have blown up. It would have been
smart to broadcast that.

Speaker 1 (01:14):
So he said, I looked up. I'm like, my god,
we've been talking for this long before doing the record button.
Oh my gosh, good time. I'm Jeff Warren here with
my buddy, Eric Leonard. Eric, buddy, how you doing. I
know your I know your son was down at the
Phillies game tonight watching zeus Lozardo pitching.

Speaker 2 (01:34):
And he was texting me the whole time and during
the game, and it was just really fun to watch.
He's twelve and it hasn't quite been introduced to the
just the dol drums and blues of being a Philiolphia
sports fan. Yeah, and he's text me like Harper's home
run was a monster. Sure, we're castianos.

Speaker 1 (01:53):
Yes.

Speaker 2 (01:53):
And then and then he texted me we're down six
to five, and I happen, yeah, And I text them
back and like, welcome to the club, dude. This is
how it works. Awesome hitting, and all of a sudden
the pitching melts down, and you know, and you don't
know what the hell happen and you're down a run
and it's just life is a life is a Philadelphia fan.

(02:14):
And I told you before the show. I'm like, when
I was twelve, I remember watching the Fog Bowl of
my dad Eagles Eagles bear Is nineteen eighty eight and
the playoffs, and I remember turning around with tears in
my eyes to him, going, I can't see the field.
How are they playing? This isn't fair. My Dad's being like, yeah,
that's how it is. So ye, my god.

Speaker 1 (02:37):
I have never seen a meltdown on the mound like
Jesus Lozardo had in the fifth inning. Holy shit, I
have never. I can't remember ever seeing too what where
the pitching is fantastic up until that point five nothing
and then you walk two guys when bases are loaded
and then give up a grand slam. I don't think

(02:59):
I've that. I can't remember any anytime seeing anything like that.

Speaker 2 (03:03):
He had a no hitter going, I know, incredible, and
I thought about it. There's a reason, you know, they
were able to sign Hajesuslizarda for nothing. You know, I
know he's injury prone, but like this is probably kind
of who he is, and this is you know, he's
in his areas in the fours and they the Phillies
have signed this guy for decades, and especially me as

(03:25):
a fan, I've seen this before. So Vinnie, welcome to
the club. I'm so sorry, but you're here for life.

Speaker 1 (03:32):
You are. Yeah, yeah, we got a lot more Phillies
talk coming your way. First, we're going to get into
some Philly sports history. Haven't done that over the past
few episodes here, and then we are going to be
getting into more Phillies talk. Like I said, they made
a move to acquire a bullpen arm and David Robertson
he's coming back to the team. We're also going to
talk about whether or not they should make another bullpen

(03:53):
move before the July for thirty first trade deadline. Then
we got a new top three list. You know, No,
Eric and I love doing top three lists. We haven't
done one in a while. This top three list is
gonna be really interesting. Athletes who played in Philadelphia for
four seasons or less but had a huge, huge impact
on their team. And then from there we got a

(04:15):
bunch of NFL and Eagles talk. We've got eggcrats from
Philadelphia Eagles on SI's coming to join us for a
discussion about how this Eagles team is looking heading into
camp here and this upcoming season. So it's a great,
great show. Let's start off with some Philly sports history.
I've got five different dates that I'm gonna throw out.

(04:38):
They all deal with the Philadelphia Phillies here. So the
first one, we're gonna go back to nineteen oh two, July.

Speaker 2 (04:45):
Twenty first, my favorite team.

Speaker 1 (04:47):
That's our favorite, Yes, July twenty first, nineteen oh too.
Left handed pitcher Doc White becomes the first Phillies pitcher
to record four strikeouts in an inning, bring a ten
to one loss to Brooklyn. Four strikeouts. Okay, I don't understand.

(05:08):
When I was doing some research, I was like, Wow,
what don't I get right now in this in my
brain at this particular point in time. But moving on,
we're gonna move. Ten years after that, July twentieth, nineteen twelve,
Sherry Maggie of the Philadelphia Phillies tied in a Major
League Baseball record by stealing home twice in a single game.

(05:31):
They beat the chicke They beat the Chicago Cubs fourteen
to two. Quite the rare feat in baseball at that point.
Now we're gonna really skip ahead to nineteen ninety seven.
July twenty first, nineteen ninety seven, after seventeen years with
the organization, catcher Darren Dalton was traded to the Florida
Marlins for outfielder Billy McMillan. And then after that few

(05:57):
years after that, July twenty six, two thousand, the Phillies
traded Kurt Shilling to the Arizona Diamondbacks. And then we
have July twenty fifth, twenty fifteen. That's where Cole Handles
threw a no hitter his final start as a Philadelphia Philly.
What a freaking game that was. I remember that one,

(06:17):
But that is this week in Philly sports history. Eric,
and anything stand out to you, aside from from the
four strikeouts in an inning, which I don't get.

Speaker 2 (06:28):
Yeah, and just to tell the fewer or the the
viewers and listeners. Jeff doesn't go over these with me
before the show, so these are like fresh. Yeah, a
couple thoughts. Doc is Doc one of the longest standing
nicknames in base in American history, maybe in American history maybe two.

Speaker 1 (06:48):
That's a really good point.

Speaker 2 (06:49):
Yeah, I've nineteen oh two Doc Gooden, Like there's other docs. Yeah, doctors,
like they're just one of those nicknames. Is just kind
of stuck throughout the years, and we really don't have
names like we used to anymore. What was the guys
named Sherry Magni Cherry Maggie Maggie like Sherry s h
g r r Y Maggie. He was a man, Yes,

(07:13):
crazy name. And then poor Dutch, you know, I mean
not poor Dutch. He went on to Did he win
the World Series ninety seven with the Marlins. I think
he did, did, yeah, because I think he was part
of that team. Yeah he was, Yes, yeah, he's I
think it was like the halftime catcher for them. He
played half the games. Yeah, Glad Dutch got to win
a ring the cole Hamils no hitter totally remember, Yeah,

(07:35):
and then they traded his ass like right after that. Yes,
but the fourth one. Can you read off the names
that the Phillies received back for the Kirk Shilling trade,
because it's a stellar a stellar name cadre of names
that that didn't help us out whatsoever.

Speaker 1 (07:53):
Yeah, let me let me see if I can bring
this up really quick rate here, because Kurt Shilling.

Speaker 2 (07:59):
Was Omar Dall is part of that.

Speaker 1 (08:01):
Omar Dahl, Y Nelson Figueroa, Travis Lee and Vincente.

Speaker 2 (08:07):
Padilla. The flotilla was actually a nice pick up, but
the rest of it was absolute dog shit. Yes, so
to trade away one of the best pictures of all time,
I regard, disregarding his politics and in his bullshit later life,
but like an excellent player, multi ring winner, and that's
what they got back.

Speaker 1 (08:27):
That's what they got. That's that's Omar Dahl.

Speaker 2 (08:32):
There's there's there's a whole category of Omar like like,
there's so many players that Phillies traded for in the
in the like the landscape of Omar Omar Doll. That like,
it's why they suck for like ten fucking years. Omar
Dall was horrible. I was at those games man like
he sucked ass. Even Travis Lee, well, Travis Leeves was

(08:52):
with the next big left handed hitter the first basement
and like he was like von Hayes, remember that the trade,
Yeah oh yeah and did not work out. Yes, great
list of Phillies sports history right there. But let's now
move along to actually talking about this current Philadelphia Phillies team.
Just this past week, the news broke Phillies made a

(09:15):
move and they acquired actually, I guess you would say
quote reacquired bullpen arm David Robertson. And interestingly enough, here, Eric,
they didn't have to trade any assets away or anything
like that to make this move. They did have to
lure him away from his family, from his children and

(09:35):
his wife because he wasn't playing on any major League
baseball team this season at all. So it was it
must have been lucrative enough for him to say, you
know what, I need to still continue to provide for
my family. I'm gonna do this. I'm going to sacrifice,
I am going to I am going to really just

(09:57):
bite the bullet here, David Robertson come back to the
Phillies here, Eric. Okay, so we had an honest conversation
about David Roberson's for the show, and I'm always struck
by these guys that quote retire at like forty forty one, right,
and they still have young kids at home. They got
the wife, they got the three or four kids at home,
and like wife on the road's amazing, Baseball is amazing.

(10:20):
What a life, right, especially as a like a setup
like if you're not if you're not starting or closing, right,
a setup man for twenty years of your career. But
my dad has always said that is the ultimate job
in sports. Yes, like that is the greatest job because
like or a backup quarterback maybe because there's no pressure. Really,
he's gonna get signed somewhere, especially if you're left hander,

(10:40):
it's even easier. And like he must have been home
for six months sitting in the man cave, heard the
three kids screaming upstairs, was like, oh my god, the
Phillies call. I was waiting for this call. Thank God,
Like I can't handle.

Speaker 1 (10:56):
We took your guys so long exactly.

Speaker 2 (11:00):
My wife just told me to clean it and clear
the dishwasher out. I'm worth a hundred million. I'm coming back,
like do I and getting getting to him and his
abilities and his stats, like he was actually pretty damn
good last year he played for the Rangers. He was
pitching like forty games. I looked at his stats. Yep,
he might be able to help them. I'm not expecting much.

(11:22):
I hope there's other moves we made, which we'll talk
about further later.

Speaker 1 (11:26):
Really quick. I mean with this contract, you know this,
this really bothers me about people in sports anymore these days,
because it's it's sixteen million that they signed him for.
You know, I couldn't People are like, well, it's way
too much for a guy who's forty years I couldn't
care less what they pay. If they wanted to pay
him sixty million dollars to be on the field for

(11:48):
three months, I don't give a shit. I don't care.
It's not my money. I want to see some sort
of productivity coming to this bullpen. Do I think David
Robertson is going to be an upgrade in terms of
what we're what we have now, and what we're seeing now.
Because at the end of the day, like I mean,
when Jose Alvarado got that suspension, it got everything out

(12:11):
of whack within this bullpen, and and as a result,
they need to put a band aid on this because
it's just way too up and down all the time,
and I think David Robertson has a great opportunity to
help stabilize things. I don't care if they pay him
sixteen million. I don't care if they pay him thirty
million for the rest of this year. I really don't.
It drives me crazy when people people are like that,

(12:33):
it's not your money, who cares.

Speaker 2 (12:34):
No, It's always funny to me when fans care about
the price of stuff when there's no cap basically right,
Like there's no cap in baseball essentially, and like and
there's no cap in football, kind of like it. I
think it goes up every like thirty million dollars is
no cap. Yeah. Now, when when when a hockey team
or a basketball team signs a guy too much money,
it's like, fuck, that was stupid, because yes, it's gonna

(12:55):
mess with the future and signing this guy. But like
signing a forty year old guy who had a really
good season last year as a history of the team,
he's gonna be able to perform. Me, he's not your
clothes or anyway, he's not a starter. Right, sixteen million
is are drop in the bucket, and by the way,
the team's worth one hundred thousand billion dollars, right, what
the hell do you care? Sixteen million is like pocket

(13:18):
change to this team, So like it's a it's not
as overly impressive move. It doesn't really move the needle
too much for me. But if he can give you
a couple of good innings, like throughout the rest of
the what was it July twenty thirty, so you go
like what two months left? Right? Got the postseason coming up,

(13:40):
and Alvarado can't be there anyway, so like, why not
bring a left hand and Arman maybe get you some ounts.
Hopefully it doesn't like screw up too much and give
it too many runs, can't hurt It's it's in one
of those like no lose situations exactly.

Speaker 1 (13:52):
I just want him to stabilize things a little bit too,
Like he doesn't have to be he doesn't have to
be the greatest arm common out of the bullpen, you
know this season, I don't. I just want him to
stabilize things a little bit here.

Speaker 2 (14:05):
And he's not going to be because guess what his
first year in the league was two thousand and eight, Yeah,
with the Yankees, Like, yes, I just had a kid
like that kid's going to college. In a few weeks,
he was onto nine Yankees team to beat the Phillies
in the World Series. That's how long this motherfucker's been around. Like,
I'm not expecting I'm not expecting witchcraft here from this guy.

(14:26):
I just wanted to give some stabilized innings, like you said,
and maybe not have Taylan Walker's been awesome this year, honestly,
Maybe give him some relief here and there where he
doesn't have to like go three four innings. Maybe David
can take like two winnings off his back.

Speaker 1 (14:39):
Yes, maybe you can do that. That's the hope for sure.
And as we're looking at this trade deadline coming up
again July thirty first, that's the deadline, might this team
be looking to bolster the outfield too, you know, maybe
maybe get another bat in the lineup. Maybe they do
make another bullpen move. I mean I can see that.
I can see this team wanting to possibly bring in

(15:01):
an arm with the bullpen that's gonna help to get
lefties out, you know, a bullpen arm that's gonna end
up keeping the ball in the yard and actually throwing
some strikeouts as well. I mean, we could also look
at the fact that the we know from reports the
Phillies have been showing interest in Stephen Kwan, so that

(15:21):
could potentially be on the back burner right now, and
the Phillies may actually do that given the fact that
Max Kepler has just been absolutely horrendous. Phillies left fielders
this season are hitting one ninety the splits one ninety
three h two and three twenty nine. Most of that
is falling on Max Kepler, who is just absolutely shitting

(15:43):
the bed this season.

Speaker 2 (15:45):
Two.

Speaker 1 (15:46):
We talked a few weeks ago, Eric, why not bring
up outfield prospect justin Crawford. You know, I think Dave
Dombrowski is hinting that that may potentially happen at some
point here this season. Brandon Marsh, you know, I mean,
Jesus God, I think I think Crawford could theoretically push
Brandon Marsh out of center field even if the Phillies

(16:06):
were to acquire a left fielder. So there, I think
this team is going to make some moves here. Might
we see some prospects traded? I think that's a possibility
for sure.

Speaker 2 (16:18):
Yeah, I've kind of lost my patience with Max Crappler
and uh wet Hair Marsh. Yeah, it's just wet hair, Mush. Honestly,
I told you a story before the show. I was
watching the game the other night and Marsh came up
with soaking white hair, the whole gimmick going on. He
struck out. It was a horrible strike. It was just

(16:38):
like stuck kind of three pitches. They were bad, and
I'm like and I yelled the TV this.

Speaker 1 (16:44):
God, and my wife was like.

Speaker 2 (16:46):
I'm like the TV alone. But I just I can't like.
I just don't like guys that can't, especially guys before
the season that were complaining like I need more playing
times I can make more money. It's like, no, you suck,
that's why you're not making that much money. Yeah, Marsh
and Kepler have been extremely disappointing. And there's there's a
couple of deals on I've heard rumors about that are

(17:08):
like kind of realistic and I'm hoping they actually proceed
or or pursue The Guardian's trade for Stephen Kwan and
Emmanuel Klace, who you get your closer and you get
your you get your outfielder to kind of like kind
of solidify things out there because Cassianis is doing all
the heavy lifting to this point, and as we know,

(17:28):
he's extremely up and down streaky, Yes, right, yep, Like
Kwan's a good player, he'd be really he'd really help
even out that that dichotomy in the outfield. If they
want to go big time, Mason Miller's out there for
the A's. There's no way the A's want to keep him.
Like why, it's the point you're you're going nowhere, You're

(17:49):
playing a fucking Sacramento or where the hell they're playing, right,
they're playing a minor league field to joke and all
to talk about like, well, we can't get rid of
these prospects, Well, why can't we? How many times have
we not traded prospects that went nowhere? Right? Yeah? Like
I'm with you and I want to keep Crawford, Paynter, Yes,

(18:11):
in Painter of course, Aiden Miller, Mick Abel, right, super
young guys we saw, we've seen able come up and play.
It's been disappointed, it's been. It's been. There's been some
great highlights, but it's also been very disappointing. Why not
throw those two in a trade with the Guardians to
get those two solid players for a team that's ready
to win now and in the National League. It's like

(18:32):
it's up in the air, man, Like, have you watched
the Dodgers play? They're starting pitching? Is shit, it's so
bad that Otani's back pitching now. I know, how dare
they allow the best player in baseball? You know what,
we need you to starting pitching. We don't care if
you blow your elbow out right, We'll sacrifice the forty
to fifty home runs a year so you can pitch,
give us six innings every seven days like that. That's

(18:54):
that's crazy to me that I just think the National
League is so wide open for the Phillies to like
take it, regardless what happened tonight. But like, I just
think there's there's some really good like there's some really
mediocre teams out there, including the Guardians that like probably
want to sell. And if you've got to get rid
of like your third and fourth best prospect, just do it. Yeah,
Like we've seen this before. It's it never hits one

(19:17):
hundred percent. Yeah, And is Aid Miller going to be
a superstar? Probably not. Can you get Kwan and Clayson
here using him and maybe able to do that? They
do it.

Speaker 1 (19:29):
This team is continuing to hit a wall you know,
you think, Okay, they got the talent, they've got the bats,
they've got the pitching, and then they just hit a
wall every now and again. We need some fresh faces
on this team in the bullpen and in the batter's box.
We just need that at this point, regardless of how
towns of people are. And Max Kaplari's really not that talented.

(19:51):
Like there were so many of us that held out
hope because Kyle Schwarber wasn't going to be in left
field anymore. We didn't want to see him in left
field anymore. And he's been just absolutely fantastic at the DH.
But I'm with you, we got to get these some
of these trades done here and that would put this
team in a really good position heading into October, just

(20:13):
at the end of the season.

Speaker 2 (20:13):
Anyway, Well, I talked a lot about the Guardian's trade.
I think making the move for Mason Miller. If you've
got to give up one of those prospects and not
Crawford or a painter, days are going to ask for him,
but like you're not going to get them. Yeah, like
they're they're smart enough to realize that, I think eventually,
but like maybe throw some money into the deal to

(20:34):
get a guy like that on this team when the
starting pitching. You saw Sanchez last night, he was just
a monster. Like they have two. They have two legit
righty lefty aces on the squad now, like Sanchez is
a legit say young contender. Yeah, and you have those two.
And if you had a lights out Mason Miller type

(20:56):
of closer and you had to give up Miller and
Able for him, that's a no brainer name with this
team because the window is the window is like two years, right, yeah,
and he's twenty six. He could be part of that
next wave of like whatever you want to do with
Crawford and Painter in house. I think did not want
to give up prospects for a guy like that because

(21:17):
he's so young and so talented. Doesn't make any sense
to me. And as a fan, I'd be like pissed
if I heard they didn't offer that and the A's
asked for it. Yeah, I'd be like that, you don't care,
you don't want to win this year.

Speaker 1 (21:29):
Like yeah, I completely agree with where you're coming from,
completely agree with it. And you know, I was just
at an Iron Pigs game this past week with our
good friend of the show Josh Schuster and his son
and daughter Josh Shuster from Philadelphia. Soccernow dot com does
some of the Eagles postgame shows with us as well.
And you're looking at some of the talent within the

(21:52):
farm system and it's it's a little bit slim pickings
at this point in here.

Speaker 2 (21:57):
It's a little light.

Speaker 1 (21:58):
Yeah, it's a little light. While you hate to I
don't say hate while it's sometimes you know, you got
to bite the bullet in terms of some of these
prospects because of what you see in the in the miners.
At this point, it's still it needs to be done
with the window that you're talking about here. Well, And
like my argument is always like, okay, name me a

(22:18):
Phillies prospect we traded away in the past fifteen twenty years.
That made a difference for any team, right they got
traded to, Like look at the right Halliday trade, right
the game of the Drebeck kid, Travis Darnaud. I'm sure
there was somebody I can't think of it now, didn't happen,
Like nothing happened for those guys and the guys they kept.

(22:40):
They're like, we can't possibly get rid of these guys,
they did nothing either, right, Like, not a lot of
guys from the Phillies farm system have come up and
like done much except for the current team right now
with Scott and.

Speaker 2 (22:54):
Sorry the kid from the kN third basel that bump.
Like they have some solid players, but like and Nola
and everything, but like there's just this long hit. The
trade dayline always drives me crazy in baseball, like we
can't possibly get rid of our sixth prospect. Yeah, it's
like this, there's eighty percent chances he's not even gonna
play in the major leagues, right, Like.

Speaker 1 (23:16):
Let's win now, yes, absolutely, all right, folks, Well, if
you're you know, we'd love to give your get your thoughts,

our top three list, the new top three list, then
we're gonna get into some NFL in Eagles talk. Stick
with us, all right, we are back and we are
now going to be getting into our new top three list.

(24:25):
It is the top three athletes who played in Philadelphia
for four seasons or less but had such a huge
impact on the teams that they were playing for. So
we are going to here on YouTube. Switch up our
cameras a little bit here because we've got some graphics

(24:45):
going on. Eric, let's start off with number three for you.
Do you have any honorable man? I just I don't
have any honorable mentions. I just have three guys, three
players here, and yes they are all men. Three players
here to start us off with, do you have any
honorable mentions or anything?

Speaker 2 (25:02):
Well, I'm a complete idiot. I just realized you said
athletes who played for four seasons or less. I came
up with four players, yeah, because I thought four skipped
the top three parts. I'll make one, make one of
them the honorable mention. I'm one of those smart guys
that misses this obvious thing in front of you sometimes.

(25:28):
Can you flash up anybody.

Speaker 1 (25:30):
I say, sure, absolutely.

Speaker 2 (25:32):
So I'll make this one honorable mention. Peter Forsburg, Forsburg,
here we go. So what a great picture too. So
we we traded him away in the Elin Dross trade. Yeah,
And was it ninety yes, yeah, and I was. I

(25:53):
was super into the Flyers then, and that was our
freshman year of college and super into the Flyers because
they were so good it and Lindross was coming to
town and it was like, wow, this is really exciting.

Speaker 1 (26:04):
It was ninety two actually, sorry, I.

Speaker 2 (26:08):
Think it was ninety three and then ninety four. Yeah,
and then they they drafted him ninety two. Yeah, you're right,
and they trade him away and it was like, well,
we got Lynn Ross and we got these other guys.
Djar Dan and uh number ten was his name? Helped
me out jesus, Yeah, I know. Sorry, I'm the Flyers.
Fans will kill me. God, I actually cared about the

(26:28):
Flyers back then. People know you're did telling you so.
And then this guy named Forstburgh got traded, where I
was like, whatever, you know, and then he went on
to win with the with the Avalanche, Yes, and then
he came back in like two thousand and five season.
I think it was after the lockout right, yes, And

(26:49):
I was actually living in Philly then super into the Flyers.
I went to a ton of Flyers games when I
lived down there and I lived in an old city,
and he was the one one year he played with
the Flyers and he was like thirty four, thirty five
years old, He's near the end of his career. And
I went to a bunch of those games, and I
was like, what a fucking mistake it was trading this guy? Why? God,

(27:11):
he's so talented, amazing, Like he was thirty five and
I think he I think he came in eighth place
in like the MVP voting. I think he had like
forty goals and he was one season with the Flyers.
But I was like, what a kind of cool story
for him to come and six' ten wip talk at
all the time back, Then like what a cool story
for him to come back and kind of like have

(27:32):
one good season with the team that drafted. Him, yeah
BUT i have been a good, Season like he was
one of the central focus points of that. Team he
was really damn. Good and then that was it for.
Him he kind of like think he played the next
year and that was he never played.

Speaker 1 (27:46):
Again and in two thousand and six he actually became
the fifteenth captain In flyer's. History like, that that's how
important he was to the, team.

Speaker 2 (27:56):
Like one of those one of those utmost professional players
like everyone respects in the. League and and just it was, like,
MAN i WISH i could have seen what his career
would have been with The. Flyers v just stayed not
been part of the lind. Drastraet so, yeah that's.

Speaker 1 (28:10):
It's a great pick for a guy who played with
this team for four seasons or. Less, absolutely, well let's
move on to your number three. Here who's that going to?

Speaker 2 (28:19):
Be H number three Is Jim.

Speaker 1 (28:22):
Tomey oh, yeah, BABY.

Speaker 2 (28:25):
I, honestly LIKE i was kind of. SHOCKED i went
back to looking the. Stats hit hit six hundred and
twelve home runs career, wise AND i WAS i live.
AGAIN i lived In philly when he joined The, phillies
and it was the biggest fucking story, Easily like The
phillies were in no man's, land The sixers were, Hot

(28:45):
eagles were really, Good flyers are pretty damn good, too
and The phillies going. Nowhere it's two thousand and. Three
it was the last year THE, vet big celebration year for,
that and but it was basically like people getting drunk
at THE, vet going yeah this this piss, holes get.
Right but they weren't very, good you. Know And tomy
came in and made them a legit, team like they

(29:07):
were actually a legitimate baseball, team and just hit his,
presence his home run, hitting this professionalism made them an
actual baseball team that you actually had to care about
in the. City AND i can't believe he was only
there for three. YEARS i had no clue because he
was worshiped across the, City Like i'm telling, you there
were if if it wasn't An eagles Or sixers, jersey

(29:29):
it was A Jim tomy t shirt in the, city like,
downtown like everywhere it Was Jim. Tomy it was the
only Base it was only AFFILLYATE i when we gave
a shit about three, yea four and even. Five, honestly
Like rollins Wasn't rollins, yet like the young guys just
weren't quite there. Yet but Like Jim tony honestly kind
of changed the whole cycle of The phillies leading to

(29:52):
two thousand and. Eight in my, OPINION i really do
think like he made the, Field he made The phillies
a legit baseball organization just by coming and like AND
i can't believe he's only there for three. Years knocking it.

Speaker 1 (30:07):
Is look WILL i will never. Forge it was a
day after my birthday on it Was june twenty Or june,
fourteenth two thousand and, four he hit his four hundredth
career home, run and he ended that two thousand and
four season batting two seventy, four forty two home runs
and one hundred and five RBIs and one hundred and

(30:29):
forty three. Games just an, incredible incredible. Feat like you,
said he provided legitimacy to what The Philadelphia phillies were
back then because of that home run hitting and again
that two seventy four average in two thousand and. Four
that really just he. Was he was a. God he

(30:49):
was A philly sports athlete type of god back, then
and rightfully, so because he got the team to that next,
level you know where then of just a few years
later they would be winning The World. Series you know
it just, UH i think it's a fantastic number. Three
fantastic well he.

Speaker 2 (31:07):
Was he was a bridge to the Next, yes like
the of the. TEAM i remember IN o, three like oh,
THREE i went to like probably fifteen to twenty home,
games you, know BECAUSE i just lived down there AND
i had a partial season home, tickets home tickets for uh,
four but oh, Three, like it's the, Vet it's not

(31:28):
the short, porch it is at the bank right. Now it.
Was it just we've all been to The. Vet it's
just a, monstrous Disastrous and that motherfucker hit like over
forty home runs and that thing just crushed the. Ball
AND i actually got people excited for the. TEAM i
JUST i have so much appreciation For jim tellmey absolutely.

(31:49):
Absolutely all, Right, well moving along, here my number three
is going to be the one the Only Tarall. Owens
Tarrell owens was. ONLY i only played for the Two
eagles for two seasons in two thousand and, four and
two thousand and five one of the most dominant wide
receivers In eagles. History, yes and he did play in

(32:11):
The Super bowl with a broken legs still nearly won
it For. Philadelphia but, REALLY i.

Speaker 1 (32:16):
Mean he was he was such a huge factor in
The eagles reaching That Super bowl for the first time
since nineteen. Eighty you, know there was only so much
that The eagles wide receiver corps eric was going to
be able to do With Torrent smalls back then And Todd.
Pinkston ACTUALLY i don't, KNOW i turn, YEAH i, Know,

(32:37):
JAMES i don't know If Rren smalls was on the
team in two thousand and four what he.

Speaker 2 (32:41):
Came, In but he was on the previous teams where you,
like who the fuck is? MAN i had can throw
to my, god look.

Speaker 1 (32:47):
At it in two thousand and four going to The Super.
Bowl seventy seven, receptions twelve hundred, yards fourteen touchdowns and
he did that in just fourteen. Games tied a franchise
single season rec at the. Time of course that that's
since been. Broken but and that's two thousand and.

Speaker 2 (33:03):
Four this is not Like Tyreek hill right twenty twenty.
Three you, know kind of stats like this is before
it was a passing, league but it's still kind of
a running back league. Too, yes and HE i can
speak to. THIS i lived. DOWNTOWN i walked around into
T jersey all the. Time, yes he's, yes, yes and

(33:25):
he AND i have One eagles jersey. Left i've thrown
out all my owns Because i'm an awful jersey. Buyer
as we've talked about in the, SHOW i have one jersey.
Left it's too because he absolutely Changed Philadelphia eagles fandom
across the, city you, know four and, like my, god
he changed the entire. Team, yeah like when if like

(33:49):
if we for younger, listeners like you watch today's football
and like just the explosiveness and the and the. Receiving
The eagles Had James thrash and Like Todd pinkston the
previous year and lost in The Nancy Title. Game it
was a fucking. Joke like he was so. Bad it
was so, bad and you're just, like we're never gonna
win The Nancy Title game and go to The Super.
Bowl this guy came in and his first preseason game

(34:13):
against The, ravens he went for it and he was
doing the. Wave and his first game against The giants.
Home the first home, game he had three touchdowns and
he was just like like it was just, like, wow
this guy changed the entire organization in like a couple of.

Speaker 1 (34:28):
Weeks in a couple of, weeks that's. IT i remember,
thinking AM i ever going to see The eagles in
The Super? Bowl it was back, Then AM i ever
going to see? It because the last MEMORY i had was,
SERIOUSLY i was three years. Old remember in my living,
room my dad is watching The. Eagles the only THING
i remembered was my dad, saying, oh Stupid jaworski right
after he threw that last reception The.

Speaker 2 (34:49):
Raiders.

Speaker 1 (34:50):
Yeah, yeah that was the last THING i remembered in
terms of An Eagle Super. Bowl and Then Tarall owens
being that guy that in the chemistry that he And
donovan McNabb had to you know for one, Year, yeah
for one. Year, yes that chemistry was just. Incredible, uh their.
Duo they really became one of the most feared wide

(35:11):
receiver quarterback tandems in THE nfl during that. Time so
that's that's my number. Three, well and.

Speaker 2 (35:18):
Just just to kind of beat up to you a little,
bit like not the smartest business, man, like, Right so
he was. In he was he was with The fortynins for, years,
right and never had advertisements out. There not a well
like guy came To, philly was beloved across the city
and was actually getting like national. Advertisements yes he had

(35:41):
he Had Right GUARD i think and some other. Stuff
and he was in the super commercials with the McNab
at one. Point. Yeah, Yeah like and when the next
year when he's doing when he's doing bicep curl or
whatever things in his in his front yard and his
driving his driveway and his career. UP i remember, thinking, like,
dude you made. It what are you doing like football?

(36:03):
Contracts who? Cares like You're you're actually on the advertisement
contract like, yeah, train like that's where you make the real,
money and you just want to take them, aside go be,
smarter like this is your avenue to actually make money
and be, famous and that's what you want to. Do
and he totally fucked it. Up but, man that one,
year my, god, unreal. Unreal all, right, man who's your number?

(36:26):
Two at this point here with our, List i'm gonna
Go Keith Jackson eagle tied end for The eagles. Again
one another one of those guys looked up his stats
and like only three years of The. Eagles, yeah but
like but like, anything like when, anything any music you,
hear movies you watch when you're like, thirteen, fourteen, fifteen

(36:50):
they become your favorite music probably for. Life, yeah favorite
movies probably for. Life The eagles from like eighty eight
to like ninety were like that was doubt or ninety,
one and like that was my like that's that's in
my heart to this. Day love those teams, yea and
and he he was the tight end and probably my

(37:10):
Favorite eagle besides Uh randall and maybe realize, like, oh
the tight end is like. Cool the tight end is
like it's not a it's not a running Or i'm
going to block, you and like right he. Was he
made it cool for us In Eagles nation This, yeah
he was because they didn't have great receivers, either, Right
Chris carter And Mike, quick But Mike cook was aging

(37:32):
and the running backs weren't. Great The Keith jackson was
kind of in the middle of those, guys and he
was really fucking. Talented he's one of those like early
extremely athletic tight. ENDS i think he like kind of
broke the mold a little bit in the late eighties
as a tight. End you look at his stats AND
i looked at, him it's, like, oh we had seven
hundred and fifty yards receiving and like six. Touchdowns but,

(37:55):
LIKE i think you have to put that like in
in in the you have to kind of look at
that like like old movies in that. Era, yeah, yeah
like like, okay nineteen eighty, one this movie made thirty million. Dollars,
well today be like one hundred and fifty million, dollars,
Right SO i think like in nineteen eighty eight tight end,
terms seven hundred and fifty yards receiving is like twelve
to fifty and seven touchdowns is like twelve. Touchdowns so

(38:18):
like he was an elite tight, end and it makes
sense he made all that he. Made he made The Pro,
bowl and he was like one of the top tight
ends in the. League it was only three seasons and he.

Speaker 1 (38:28):
Was rookie of The. Year he Was rookie of The,
Year rookie.

Speaker 2 (38:31):
Of The, Year AND i THINK i think he helped
change the tight end position across THE nfl over, time
like not, immediately but LIKE i think now you like
you have these super athletic tight ends that scored tons
of touchdowns to get. RESET i think he was one
of the first ones.

Speaker 1 (38:44):
Back in nineteen eighty. Eight when you have a tight
end with eighty one, receptions eight hundred and sixty nine
yards and six, touchdowns that is, incredible especially coming in
during your rookie. SEASON i mean he Was, yes he
was a first round so election by The eagles in
the nineteen eighty eight, draft but, still like you're, right

(39:06):
he really helped to change the change the trajectory of
what the tight end position now is. Today he helped
navigate that and really create that foundation for you, know
you know, what you can actually be a tight end
who blocks but also catches the ball and also catches
touchdowns from your. Quarterbacks IT'S i love.

Speaker 2 (39:29):
This not just, catch not just catch, passes but like
choot guys, out, yeah and like, run like, run not
a huge, guy runover tacklers or jump over, them right.
RIGHT i really think he helped change the game for
tight ends in THE.

Speaker 1 (39:41):
Nfl, yeah, absolutely all, Right well that's a great number.
Two my number TWO i am going to A Philadelphia
phillies pitcher and that pitcher Is Roy. Halliday Ah, man
what an incredible career we know that he, had but
his tenure with The phillies was from twenty ten to twenty,
thirteen and you could you could just go down his.

(40:04):
RESUME i, mean just A Cy Young award, winner which
was the second of his, career the first in The
National league in twenty. Ten he had a twenty one
to ten record at that point in twenty. Ten twenty
ten was fantastic for. Him two point four to FOUR,
era two hundred and nineteen. Strikeouts he led The Major

(40:26):
League baseball and wins complete games at nine, shutouts four
innings pitch two hundred and fifty point two. Innings what
about the perfect game that he Threw may twenty, ninth twenty,
ten against The Florida. Marlins it was the twentieth perfect
game In Major League baseball. History The phills that game

(40:46):
offense didn't help him out too, much but they won
one zero, yep. Unreal and then the postseason no hitter
against The Reds Roy halliday like all in on him of.

Speaker 2 (40:59):
Course, yeah and just the constant professional baseball. Player like
what one THING i always jumped out of me IS
i had never heard of the term arm. Slot ye
have a picture And he's the first guy THAT i
ever like watch videos on YouTube of like he his
arm slot and his hand position on the ball was
the same for every single pitch he. Threw and it's

(41:22):
why he was so good besides his like his his
training and like JUST i, mean you see the picture
up here of, him he's a he's a. Monster, yeah
it's just just just a beast and H but, again
to be able to throw your, Fastball, kurt like all
your pitches from that same arm slot to confuse the
hitters like that takes that's like ninja kind of, shiit

(41:47):
like like chess kind of. Stuff LIKE i don't know
how you do that over. Time but like just and
like one of the cerebral smarter pitcher pictures of all
time baseball players and by the, way one of them
Underrated Philadelphia Sports night of all time was his perfect
game was the same night The flyers were playing i
think The blackhawks in the finals and they won in.

(42:09):
OVERTIME i, Believe.

Speaker 1 (42:10):
Oh my, Gosh i've completely forgot about.

Speaker 2 (42:12):
That, yeah BECAUSE i remember my buddy AND i were
In harrisburg going back and, forth like what do we
watch The flyers games? Tied he's got a perfect, game
like it was JUST i just, think like there's probably
Better philadelphia sports, nights BUT i remember that one being
LIKE i don't even know this is before like having
split screen or right to, watch just being LIKE i
don't know what to, do go back and forth, QUICK i,

(42:34):
guess just so so much fun this.

Speaker 1 (42:37):
Is this is a great discussion, here. MAN i just
h these, memories you, know coming back of this starting
pitching unit and the fact that you Know Roy, HALLIDAY i, mean,
yes we're talking about the twenty ten year that was.
Monumental but his twenty eleven, year, FOLKS i mean he
he went nineteen and six with a two point three
to FIVE era two hundred here, playoffs, YES i, know

(43:02):
just and somehow he finished second in Cy young. Voting,
Yes Clayton kershaw was the Cy young winner that that.
Year but still just absolutely loved what he did on
the mound In. Philly, eric who is your number one? Here?

Speaker 2 (43:17):
Well my number? One you know you know my love
for this. GUY i WHEN i go to the, BEACH
i wear his jersey all the time on the. Sand
Moses malone JUST i mean one of my favorite sixtuers
of all. Time but again one of those. Guys i'm just,
LIKE i only played for the sixtuer for three.

Speaker 1 (43:36):
Years, yeah that's a shit.

Speaker 2 (43:38):
UNBELIEVABLE i didn't realize Now i'm discounting his season in
ninety the ninety five, SEASON i think it, was, No,
yeah it. Was it was like the mid. Nineties he
came back for like twenty thirty. Games he was thirty years.
Old i'm throwing that out of One, Jeff i'm sorry
and breaking the. Rules, okay it doesn't. Count he averaged
like four. Points it was just. Sad but like The

(44:01):
sixers graded for. Him he came, in they won the
eighty three, title demolished every fucking team in front of.
Them it was the four to four. Season ye lost
one game to The lakers, whatever and it's just like
they are the most dominant team that year in in
the era that The celtics And lakers were like just killing. Everybody,

(44:22):
yeah this came in and just fucking slapped everyone in the.

Speaker 1 (44:25):
Face there WAS mvp in eight and eighty, three.

Speaker 2 (44:28):
Yeah and he WAS mvp and h. Before he's a
three seventy nine, too, Right, yeah he's an all. Timer,
yeah and one of the greatest players of all, time
probably top fifteen if you if you feel like if
you laid out and the only reason they won eighty
three was trading For moses AND i really when he

(44:49):
when he passed, Away my first thing On Twitter facebook,
WAS i Guess god needed a championship because that was
like when they traded for, him was, like well needed,
Him like that's just, yes but like he he changed
the entire franchise from like you just can't get over
the fucking hump from seventy six to seventy seven to

(45:10):
eighty and they can Beat. Magic he came in a
three Kick magic's, ass Kick kareem's ass at their peak
and just just just killed. Everybody like he's one of
the best sixers of all. Time he played for three.
Years it's just, it that's.

Speaker 1 (45:26):
It you, know the magic that he had also With DOCTOR.
J you, know especially in eighty. Three you know you
watch some of those excuse, me you watch some of
those clips and him being named THE Nba FINALS mvp as.
Well you, know when you are such a talented, athlete

(45:49):
whether it's like we're talking About Tara, owens you, know
you talk About Moses, malone if your talent can get
your team to championship caliber level and completely transform a
team or a unit or. WHATEVER i, mean you just
go down in the history. Books is one of the
greatest of all. Times you, know you, know you say

(46:10):
he's number top. FIFTEEN i would argue possibly top.

Speaker 2 (46:14):
Ten probably top, ten top. Twelve, honestly, YEAH i like
it starts to get he starts to get pushed down
throughout the years because of like the durance and those
kinds of. THINGS i, understand but like the, guy he
was a high school, phenom got drafted at, nineteen came
in THE aba at nineteen and Dominated. MEALY i maybe

(46:39):
it was a really competitive league and the guy played
for twenty some years and for him to get traded
to The sixers in eighty three when THE nba landscape
was like so, Competitive lakers And celtics were killing, everybody
and he just was, like this team's. Good we Got,
doc we Got andrewtonia see him in the. Picture now
we Got mo and we Got Bobby jones to put

(47:01):
him in this team and then just demolish the league
like just how good a player he. Was and, LIKE
i hope over time his legacy doesn't get, forgotten BECAUSE
i sure, shit won't let it.

Speaker 1 (47:12):
Happen but, like, yeah he one of the best. Ever,
yep it's. Great that is a great number. One and
as we close out this particular segment here before we
get to some football talk and it's kind of a
nice dovetail into, it my number one athlete who played
In philly for four seasons or less but had a

(47:32):
huge impact on their team was none other than the
First Super bowl Champion Philadelphia EAGLE mvp In Nick. Foles
Nick foles taking The Philadelphia eagles in twenty seventeen season
as we know to The Super Bowl eagles winning their
first Super bowl, ever the most unlikely end of the

(47:54):
season and playoff run perhaps of any team IN nfl. History,
again he was a Super Bowl BOWL. Mvp In Super
bowl fifty, two he threw for three hundred and seventy
three yards three. Touchdowns he caught the Iconic philly special
play that was a fourth and one from the goal,
line and that year, too i should, say when he

(48:18):
was on the team previously With Chip kelly being the head,
coach he threw twenty seven touchdowns and just two. Interceptions
in twenty thirteen that tied a record seven touchdowns in
a single game against The. Raiders if you happen to
remember that, GAME i was craping my. PANTS i remember after.
THAT i REMEMBER i was, like oh my, god that's

(48:38):
back When lenn AND i were just doing the show
and we got on did The eagles post game. Show
that was. Great excuse? Me So Nick, foles, MAN i,
mean for, me he's got to be the number one
in terms of this.

Speaker 2 (48:49):
LIST i, agree AND i hell off no one BECAUSE
i knew you're gonna pick. Him So.

Speaker 1 (48:56):
Moses is still, up like m And moses are still like, right, yeah.

Speaker 2 (49:00):
Because they brought, Championships like none of the guys we
mentioned like actually brought. Championships SO i will say About Nick,
foles like his best game as An eagle was actually
not the Super, bowl in my, OPINION i think it
was The vikings game before. That it. Was it was, Incredible,
yeah because that was. Okay so remember like they finished the,
season he was a little. Shaky it wasn't it wasn't. Great,

(49:22):
yeah and they beat The falcons in the first round
and you're, like oh my, god that was really, Close, like,
Yeah wholly could have caught. That we're out of the. Playoffs.
Yep and then The vikings games. Happened The Vikings vikings game.
Happens my Buddy macro's over And i'm watching the game with,
him and this dude is fucking slicing up The vikings,

(49:43):
defense which is awesome all, year and they're up like
twenty seven to what three at one point in the second,
half and my my buddy And mac, like what the
fuck is? Happening and it was just LIKE i HAD
i didn't know he had that in. Him, Yes so
that was the game actually built up the built up

(50:05):
the confidence in him WHERE i wasn't surprised that it
happened in The Super. Bowl, yeah The vikings, GAME i was,
like this guy's the real fucking, deal like along with
the offensive coordinators and, everything but like that was the.
Game i'm, like this guy is fucking. Great, yeah it's
actually it actually like Funck Ship kelly because like this
guy made this guy did. That it Wasn't Chip kelly

(50:27):
necessarily exactly. Good, yeah and That vikings game kind of, like,
yeah it cemented that for.

Speaker 1 (50:31):
Me, yeah that flea flicker for a touchdown To Tory.
Smith that right then and, THERE i was, like this
is the most magical thing THAT i have ever seen
from The Philadelphia eagles team at this point in the. Game.
Unbelievable so that was a, fun fun segment for. Sure and,
uh let's get back to uh how everything's supposed to

(50:53):
look here on. YouTube and now before we get to our,
interview we're gonna be talking to Egg kratz From Philadelphia
eagles over on S. I we want to get into
just real quick storylines that we're gonna be looking forward,
to uh this COMING nfl? Season? Here what have you
been given this any? Thought like what you're really thinking

(51:15):
about in terms of this upcoming. Season so there's so
many storylines like whether it's with every team or you,
know there's, positives there's. Negatives what are your thoughts?

Speaker 2 (51:24):
Here i've got three big ones and they all kind
of tie into the, well not so much the, one
but they tye into The eagles because we're The Super
bowl fucking champs and everything else doesn't. Matter all the
other teams can eat my. Ass So i'll do THE

(51:47):
afc story. Last but like my number one story honestly
is the The rams are, scary the L A, Rams
and LIKE i, think as THE nfc, Landscape i'm not
really afraid of any team as An eagles. Fan, yeah
that's the one team that kind of worries me a little.

Speaker 1 (52:05):
Bit, yeah, Okay and.

Speaker 2 (52:08):
What two reasons WHY i love their off season offseason.
MOVES i thought they really handled the off season, correctly
built up a great. DEFENSE i think THEY i think
they like MOST nfl, teams they looked across, like, okay
what did The eagles do to? Win let's copy that
a little. Bit and they resigned their quarterback because they had.
To they Brought DeVante. Adams it was a great number,

(52:30):
two not a number one. ANYMORE i actually liked that.
Signing and they built up they they kind of strengthened
their offensive. Line they they kind of and then drafted
based to kind of build their, defense because that's how
The eagles won The Super.

Speaker 1 (52:41):
Bowl, Right, yeah.

Speaker 2 (52:42):
Basically AND i went back the other night BECAUSE I
I i, UH i was Because i'm a. WEIRDO i was,
like SOMETIMES i watched Old eagles games and especially the playoff.
Stuff YouTube has, awesome like twenty minute videos were like
you just watch entire playoff. Game AND i was listening

(53:05):
to podcasts recently WITH nfl preseason, podcasts and they're just, like,
man The eagles almost lost The, rams And i'm, like,
no they fucking. Didn't like In nancy talgame like screw
that went back and, Watched i'm, like they kind of.
Did they almost lost to, them and it really bothered.
ME i was, like BECAUSE i was always arguing in
my head like, YEAH i was, like, NO i don't

(53:26):
agree with. That and THEN i watched the game on.
YouTube i'm, like, dude If Jalen carters make those two
plays in the fourth, Quarter rams might be going to
the Super. Bowl eagles. Aren't like it bothered, me and
THEN i saw they did in the off. Season i'm, Like,
okay The rams absolutely could make a run in THE
nfc and disrupt The eagles like dynasty kind of going. Forward,

(53:49):
YEAH i that's that's one of the biggest that that's
the number one Storyline i'm not talking. About i'm not
Doing eagles storylines because who, cares like were but like
The rams won and their ability to possibly like make
a run and beat The eagles like concerns me as a.

Speaker 1 (54:06):
Fan one of the Storylines i'm following and it kind
of dovetails off of, that but in a way WHERE
i think the team is going to take steps back
because this team faced The eagles in THE Nfc Championship
game and The Washington commanders after its best season that
they've had in what thirty three? Years that question, is

(54:27):
Can Dan quinn in his second season do this? Again
Will Jaden daniels be able to do this? Again can
they build off that champion THAT Nfc Championship game. APPEARANCE
i don't know if they can because just like With
Jalen hurts when he was quote getting figured, out you,
know during his second, Season Jaden daniels is going to

(54:50):
get figured out in certain. Ways are they going to
be as successful as they were last? Season This Washington commander's.
TEAM i have a feeling they're going to take some steps,
back even though they made some offseason moves that would
hopefully help propel. Them, wait when you look to where
you are or where you were the previous year and
where you want to. GO i don't know if the

(55:11):
moves that they made make them a Super bowl, team
because that's inevitably the next step for them after losing
THE Nfc Championship. Game so where The commanders go and
then where the Stupid Dallas cowboys end up going, too
with their awful owner who can't talk during his press
conferences and who's shitting On Micah, Parsons Dak. Prescott it's

(55:36):
incredible where that organization. Is SO i don't know if
THE Nfc east in general is going to necessarily be
the coole powerhouse that we've seen it over the past few,
seasons but The Washington commanders in, general that's the storyline
That i'm really going to be watching early on just
to see what what's going to be happening With Jaden
daniels and with the defense. TOO i just THOUGH i

(55:58):
think they're going to take some steps back this coming.

Speaker 2 (56:00):
Season, yeah AND i APOLOGIZE i flipped the games The
combs were the. Title, yeah, yeah but that's my second
storyline is in my belief that they're gonna take they're
going to take a major step. Back every, year some
team like goes further than you, think and every year

(56:22):
some team takes a huge step back right from the.
Playoffs AND i don't think it's not gonna be The,
Eagles they're too, consistent not The. LIONS i THINK i
think The combs are like so ready to make a,
major major step, back and whether that be A Jayden daniels,
Injury like they had a lot of history or a

(56:43):
lot of injury luck last, years including, him because he
is a phenomenally talented athletic, quarterback but like really thin
and just do for like A he's Not Lamar, Jackson
Like Lamar jackson is, jacked, right and he, Runs i'm
not scared When Jayden daniels. Runs it's, like well win

(57:05):
stick legs out. There, yeah a little wafer is a
bird chest, Right And i'm, like, man he might he
might take a shot that puts him out for four,
Weeks like, yeah and who's the who's their? BACKUP i
have no. Idea i'm not even sure who their backup.
Is that exactly that's the exact. Team you're, like, yeah
you have no. Backup if this goes this goes south

(57:26):
for four, weeks you're probably out of the. Playoffs so
like that is a team to me that is like
like absolutely could take a huge step back some of
the signings you're talking. About they signed Von miller And
i'm like Von, miller the guy who was suspended last
year for The bills that didn't do, Ship like, yeah
and how many million dollars like the tail end of his,

(57:47):
CAREER i mean the tail end of his. Career he
hail end of his. Career some of the signings they,
Made i'm, like those feel like desperate veteran moves when
you're kind of at the end of your window and
not getting your.

Speaker 1 (58:00):
Window remember when they did it With Bruce smith back
in the, day when When smith was on the on The,
bills you knew is you knew the end of his
his career was really on the. Horizon and then and
it just happened when he got down To.

Speaker 2 (58:12):
Washington, YEAH i just didn't some of the moves they
made and it hit the luck they had last. Year
they reaked to me of a team that's like absolutely
due for a possible like down.

Speaker 1 (58:24):
Year absolutely, yeah, yep a team That i'm also going
to be looking at, too And i'm gonna Go i'm
just gonna go, quick just in the essence of time.
Here but The Denver broncos are very intriguing to. ME
i wonder what adjustments AND i wonder what Adjustments Sean
payton is going to make in year two with Bow.
NICKS i, mean Bo nicks was one of the most underrated.

(58:45):
STORYLINES i thought last year you want to talk about
a quarterback who was. Developing look many of the short
and intermediate roots he was so successful with in a
twenty nine touchdown rookie, season it might be better. Covered
as you, know defensive coaches, again just Like Jayden, daniels
they're going to figure out Bo nicks a little bit.

(59:07):
More is he going to be able to throw to the? Outside?
Uh you know with the outside numbers are his effectiveness
as a runner is not no longer going to be
a surprise as it was last. Season But Bo nick
seems to be a guy who is coachable AND i
think very much Like i'm not comparing him To Jalen,
hurts but he seems to be a guy who gets,

(59:27):
it who's very coachable Like Jalen. HURTS i think Bow
knicks is going to take some steps, forward which means
The Denver broncos offense is also going to take some
steps forward as. WELL i THINK i think The Denver
broncos are going to be a very interesting team to
follow this.

Speaker 2 (59:41):
SEASON i, Agree and they made The they made the
playoffs last, year which who the hell thought that was
going to? HAPPEN i, Know And Bo nicks was drafted
into a perfect situation BECAUSE i think it. Was as we've,
discovered there's not some there's some really bad coaches in THE,
nfl just like THE. Nba, yeah, like but The Denver
broncos coach is not. Bad Sean payton is an excellent,

(01:00:03):
coach and he found the perfect opportunity for himself to
come out of the announcing booth or, whatever, yeah and
become a. Coach and like he PROBABLY i think he
pushed For bonix because he kind of saw something and he's,
LIKE i can mold this dude into WHAT i want
him to. Be and it absolutely worked last year because
and LIKE i, said he's he's actually a really good,

(01:00:25):
athlete WHICH i didn't realize about him coming out of.
College not A Jayden daniels ty. Athlete but, LIKE i don't.
KNOW i think they're going to make the playoffs, again
AND i think they're actually going TO i agree with.
THAT i think they're going to make a. Leap, yeah
because they're they're a really good defense. Too that's a huge.

Speaker 1 (01:00:41):
Part all, Right, well, buddy do you have anything else
before we head out of? Here BEFORE i let you, Go, NO.

Speaker 2 (01:00:48):
I my last my LAST nfl. POINT i think The
bills are going to finally make the. Leap that's the big.
ONE i think they're gonna make A i think they're
finally going to push through The chiefs make the Super.
Bowl all. Right i'm not biased because my daughter's going To,
buffalo but, LIKE i think that's gonna, happen.

Speaker 1 (01:01:04):
All, RIGHT i can't wait if it's gonna be uh
look putting the car before the horse saying, It but
A Bill's eagle Super bowl would be pretty freaking, incredible.

Speaker 2 (01:01:12):
Incredible it would.

Speaker 1 (01:01:13):
Be all, right, Buddy i'm gonna let you, go. Folks
we're gonna take a break and we come. Back we
got a ton Of eagles talk with our good friend
Egg kratz From Philadelphia eagles over at S. I we
got some, great great. Discussions come in your, way stick with.
Us we'll be right back.

Speaker 2 (01:01:29):
And now on the table.

Speaker 1 (01:01:33):
And we are back with our good Friend Egg kratz
to talk about This Philadelphia eagles team what this upcoming
season may look. Like if you've been following The Philadelphia
Sports table podcast show for any bit of, time you'll
know That ed is one of our good good friends
and a fantastic. Guest he is An eagles beat reporter
and has been for well over a. DECADE i think

(01:01:54):
maybe going on eleven twelve years at this, Point, Ed but, yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:01:59):
A little longer team to be a.

Speaker 1 (01:02:00):
Fourteen oh my, Gosh time, flies time. Flies But ed's
got fantastic content over AT si At eagles, Today, buddy
thanks so much for jumping on man to dive into
This eagles. TEAM i can't wait for some. Football and
it's great to see my.

Speaker 3 (01:02:14):
Friend, yeah great to see, You. Jeffy it's Like christmas
In july. Here, yes you know what training camp about
to break and you know NonStop.

Speaker 1 (01:02:24):
Action absolutely absolutely Well. January, Yeah, ed let's get into
the discussion right away about This eagles. Team some of
the storylines were following what we may be seeing during
training camp and. BEYOND i wanted to get into an
article that you recently. Wrote you went into some of
those questions that we're going to be needing to hash
out over the coming weeks and early in this season

(01:02:45):
when it comes to This eagles, TEAM i think the
first and biggest, one and you mentioned it in your,
article is offensive Coordinator Kevin patulo his readiness to lead
the offensive side of. Things you mentioned How. Patullo he
had been around for some time Since Nick sirianni arrived
on the scene in twenty twenty. One last, Year Kellen

(01:03:06):
moore is at The helm as we, know he's now
down In New. Orleans Kellen moore had to quickly pick
up what This eagles offense, was What Nick sirianni wanted
it to, be to build those relationships with those team
members and guys on the. Offense so what kind of
leader and coach do you think we're going to see

(01:03:28):
in terms of What Kevin petulo is really going to
bring to the table early in this.

Speaker 2 (01:03:31):
Season, YEAH i think he brings.

Speaker 3 (01:03:34):
Consistency you, Know Jalen hurts has had several offensive coordinators
going back to his time At alabama and Then oklahoma
and Then philadelphia When peterson was here With Press, taylor you,
know so there have been a lot of different configurations
of the. Offense BUT i Think, petullo you, mentioned he's
been here Since sirianni got. Here that was twenty twenty,

(01:03:56):
One so this is five years now that he has
been in that building on the sideline at, practices getting
to know the, players building relationships with the, players AND
i think him And Jalen hurts have a pretty good.
Relationship now you, know that could be good or bad
if you're too close to him and you're more of
a yes man and you're bending to What jalen. Wants

(01:04:16):
but you, know my take On Kevin petullo and talking
to people is he's gonna if if you're not doing
things the right way or the way he wants them,
done then he's gonna call you, out no matter how
strong that relationship might. Be so that's a good. Thing
the flip side of, It jeff is the, coaching the
calling of the plays. Aspect you, know he has never

(01:04:39):
called plays before in a, game and you Know Nick
siriani's not taking that mantle over uh to call plays
that is being handed to, uh To Kevin, patulo just
like it was To Kellen. Moore can he do? It you,
know once he's in that. Spot. Uh you Know nick
has said that him and Kell moore really did a

(01:05:01):
good job on game days communicating plays between each, other
talking a couple plays down the, road if this is the,
situation what are we calling? Here so he has that
kind of, experience but his is going to be kind
of the final voice And jalen hurts his. Ears this
is the. Play he's going to be in the, helmet
and then of Course jalen can come to the line
and if he, sees you, know a defense that is

(01:05:24):
going to take that play, away he can audible out of.
It but it's going to be incumbent On petullo to
called plays and we'll see if he can do that
once the clock is beginning to take the play clocks winding,
down you, know is he going to be effective doing?
That it might might be some growing pains. There, Yeah
i'd be surprised maybe if there, were because of this

(01:05:44):
relationship they, had because of the closeness between him And
Kellen moore last. Year SO i think it will be.
Seamless but it's something to certainly watch here in the early.

Speaker 2 (01:05:54):
Days.

Speaker 1 (01:05:55):
Absolutely, look there's a lot to keep our eyes on
during this early part of you know, what This eagles
season is going to. Be quite, frankly and while we're
all still on that high from the Super, bowl so
many of us. Are we feel like there's so many
FOLKS i talk to it's like we actually don't want
the season to start because we just want to keep
riding the Amazing Super bowl that it was we want
to keep riding that. High But, ed you also wrote

(01:06:18):
about how we're going to need to keep our eyes
on these injuries and how the injuries like during the
offseason have manifested and you know the recovery time for these.
Guys Nikobe dean is still nursing his knee. Injury first
round pick in this past year's, Draft Jihad, campbell he's
been dealing with a shoulder. Injury we know That Nolan
smith he tore his tricep during The Super. Bowl he's

(01:06:39):
been nursing. That Cam jurgens he's had some back problems
going back to last season as. Well when do you
think will end up seeing these players on the field
first and foremost and, Second, ed what kind of depth
do you think we're going to need to really keep
our eyes on with These eagles players if there are
any setbacks to these you, know starter or if they

(01:07:00):
have trouble getting on the field in a timely. Fashion.

Speaker 3 (01:07:03):
Yeah, well you know that's the danger of playing these
extra playoff games is you open yourself up to at
greater risk of getting. Hurt you, know you Said Nolan
smith in The Super, bowl and Then Kobe dean tore
his knee in the first round of the playoffs against
The Green Bay. Packers so those are two key players.
Obviously you, KNOW i, think you, Know Nolan smith will be.

(01:07:25):
OKAY i, mean he's probably there's a lot of tough
guys on this team That Nolan smith doesn't take a
backseat to any of, them, right you, Know and he
did some stuff during the, spring SO i suspect he'll
be up and rolling sooner rather than, later maybe even you,
know day one or day. Two you, Know i'm not so.

(01:07:47):
Sure Jahad, CAMPBELL i think they really want him to
get as healthy as he can. Be but you, know
we saw When Cooper dejane missed most of the summer
training camp last. Year it took him to week six
before they put him in The star arting. Lineup, me
they're going to Need Johan campbell a little sooner than,
that especially because The Kobe dean's probably going to start

(01:08:07):
on the pup list with that knee. Injury who knows
when he'll be. Back pretty serious knee, injury the one
That i'm concerned, about and maybe The eagles are, too
because they drafted another center And Drew kendall is the
Center Cam. Jurgens you, know those back, injuries if you
ever had any back, problems they can be pretty debilitating

(01:08:29):
and they're tough injuries to. Overcome you, know you can
get a knee, replacement shoulder, replacement hit, replacement but you
only get one back and replace, that so you really
have to be careful with. It he had a procedure
done on. It i'm not exactly sure what he had.
Done maybe we'll get to the bottom of, it you,
know once camp gets. Rolling but it's something to, watch

(01:08:51):
and that's WHY i think The eagles might have shown
a little.

Speaker 2 (01:08:54):
Concern.

Speaker 3 (01:08:54):
NOW i know they Extended jurgons here in the off.
Season he's here through twenty twenty. Nine long, term maybe
they're not as, concerned but short term they Drafted Drew,
KENDALL i think was the best center in the draft
out Of Boston. College his dad was in THE, nfl
longtime guard in THE. Nfl But Drew, kendall you, know

(01:09:15):
he's there waiting If cam can't answer the bell in
a timely, fashion or if this injury flares up during
the course of the, season it might need a week
or two. Off you have a guy And Drew kendall
that can do the. Job so by drafting him what
was in the fourth, ROUND i think the fifth, round maybe?

Speaker 2 (01:09:34):
Fifth, yeah uther.

Speaker 3 (01:09:35):
Fifth that indicates to me, that, yeah maybe The eagles
have a little bit of concern On Cam. Jurgens so,
yeah that's the ONE i Think jefted would concern me,
most is the one For Cam.

Speaker 1 (01:09:45):
Jurgens all, right sounds good and we'll certainly be keeping
our eyes on that here at The Philadelphia Sports table
podcast show and something else we're gonna be keeping our
eyes on quite frankly. Ed and last week on the
SHOW i talked about. THIS i mentioned How i'm a
bit concerned With eagles Kicker Jake. ELLIOTT i, mean he
had a brutal regular season last year in twenty twenty,

(01:10:07):
four making seventy seven point eight percent of his, kicks
which was twenty sixth in the league and kicking during
the regular. Season, however things started coming together for him
during the. Playoffs he was a major major contributor during
The Super bowl as. Well so, yes ended the season.
Strong but there are a lot of questions during the
course of the. Offseason what are your thoughts when it
comes To Jake Elliott when it comes to that leg

(01:10:30):
of his where he's at in his, career and, really
if we should be concerned with his leg coming into this, season.

Speaker 3 (01:10:36):
Well you know how kickers, are, right they're you, know
they're a different, animal you, know different. Headspace. Yep but,
yeah and that's a good question because not a lot
of people were probably thinking About Jake elliott and he
did struggle last. Year, now you, KNOW i was told
that he was working his way through an. Injury he
never admitted to. It players don't admit to injury right,

(01:10:57):
now he's just, like you, KNOW i gotta be, better
right to the bottom. Line they don't make the. Excuses
BUT i was told that he was fighting his way
through a leg. Injury and it was a weird year
because they used their punter to kick off in some.
Situations they were kind of Saving jake's leg on, kickoffs
and maybe they did that because they were concerned about
maybe an injury that was out. There you, know it

(01:11:19):
was working his way through and maybe never got to
the end of. It but you, know you hope that
he's healthier now after these few weeks. Off AND i
also Think jeff that a lot of those snaps weren't
really good From Brick. Levado like towards the end of the,
Season levado was center in the ball on field, goals
kind of all over the. Place he, had you, know

(01:11:42):
he had made the holder reach on a few of,
those and maybe that disrupted the timing a little, bit
or maybe that was Inside jake's. Head is the ball
going to be there WHEN i swing my? Leg and
that's Why Rick lovato is no longer on this, team
to be honest with, you as he struggled with his
snapping late in the season and that could have been
a piece to elliott. Struggles so they have a new

(01:12:03):
long snapper, now a guy that's done it for ten,
years eleven, Years Charlie. HEWLETT i think his name. Is
it came over from The. Browns you hope that he's you,
know and the long. Snapper you're always overlook this long, snapper,
Right the only time they talk about is if you
sail on over somebody. Exactly, Yes but he was a little,
WILD i thought toward the end of the, year and
that may have Impacted jake as.

Speaker 1 (01:12:23):
Well, YEAH i think that's some good analysis. There we
got to keep our eyes On Jake elliot, folks and
yes it could have been the long, snapper but it
was a bizarre year For Jake, elliot who's been on
this team ever since The Super bowl year since twenty.
Seventeen really the first year where we had some questions for.
Sure and, again, folks we're talking to Egg kratz FROM

(01:12:43):
si dot. Com eagles, Today Philadelphia eagles over ON SI
a great great follow. Ed where can folks find you
on the interwebs out there if they want to follow?
YOU i know you're On, twitter slash x At. Kratze
where else can folks find you out?

Speaker 3 (01:12:56):
There, yeah that's the best, Place okayev just hit me
up on THE x platform K R a C. Z
i put out all the links. There but if you
if you want to go into the site and dive
a little, deeper there's a few guys writing for the
site and look at their. Work it's, uh it would
BE si at www DOT si dot. Com BACKSLASH nfl Backslash.

(01:13:18):
Eagles there you. Go So BACKSLASH Nfl Backslash eagles brings
you right into the site and you have a whole
menu of stories to look, at not just.

Speaker 1 (01:13:27):
Mine, Fantastic, absolutely you guys do such great work over,
there and as we're moving along here ed The eagles,
DEFENSE i certainly want to talk. About you, know what
this unit is going to be this. Year they're, slated of,
course to be one of the top defenses in THE
nfl this coming, season you, know based on some general
preseason rankings that we have been. Seeing and of, course,

(01:13:48):
YES i think they're going to be a very very
good defense in unit this coming. Year BUT i do
have some hesitation on how things will go one at
the safety, position as we've been talking on this podcast
platform for the past several, weeks and even from a
pass rush, standpoint, look certain players are going to have
to step up in a big way this, season in
my opinion from a developmental, Perspective guys who are going

(01:14:11):
to need to fill the holes Of Brandon, Graham Josh,
Sweat Milton williams who are no longer on this. Team
what are your thoughts on some of the holes that
we may see on This eagles defense heading into the,
season and you, know some of the depth that we
may end up seeing as.

Speaker 3 (01:14:26):
Well, YEAH i Think Vic, fangio the defensive, coordinator was
asked this in the, spring AND i thought he gave
a great, answer as we had a lot of these
same questions at different positions and about players heading into last. Year,
yeah and then it all came together and he, said
it's not unlike this. Year we have a lot of
questions about, talent about, positions and we're just going to

(01:14:49):
have to answer him find a way to get that. Answered,
so you, KNOW i thought that was a good answer
because he's. Right you, know if you think about last,
year there were some questions on, defense and you, know
how is it all going to come? Together and Is
quinna And mitchell going to be the starting corner and you,
know you, know you can go back and look at
all the, questions but, no you're, right you HAVE i
Think Brandon, graham the leadership he provided on defense was.

(01:15:13):
HUGE i think this game With Darius, SLAY i think
he was a great leader. Too that to me is
my biggest question is where is that leadership going to come.
From this is a, young young, defense probably the second
youngest in the. League it's only about twenty five years.
Old the oldest player is H, Nickerson Perry, nickerson who's

(01:15:33):
thirty years, old, right you, know and he's not even
sure he's going to make the team And Dry jackson
will be thirty In, september so you don't really have
a guy over thirty on this. Defense so where's that
going to? Come Can Zach bond be the leader that
you know his stats speak to certainly stuffed the stat
sheet last. Year but you know there are concerns questions

(01:15:55):
for sure the. Edge do they have enough? Help you
know After Jylex hunt And Nolan, smith.

Speaker 2 (01:16:03):
That's a big.

Speaker 3 (01:16:03):
Concern but to me so is leadership? Cornerback you mentioned No.
Sleigh Can Kille ringos step in and fill that? SPOT
i Think Isaiah rodgers has lost going To minnesota in free.
Agency that's a big. One he was a key reserve
player who stepped in For slay when he had a
concussion slated and you know he didn't play every game

(01:16:24):
last year And rodgers was, there very vital fill, in
very good at that. Job so who's going to do that?
Job is it going to be the loser of that
cornerback battle Between jackson And ringo and can they do it?
Effectively that probably is my second or third. Concern i'd
put leadership. Edge did they have enough on the outside
at pass? Rusher? Yeah and then that cornerback. Spot those

(01:16:44):
are two big ones BECAUSE i Think Jeff drew, mccouba
the second round pick out Of, texas the, SAFETY i
think he's going to end up being a starter next
To reid Blanket.

Speaker 1 (01:16:53):
Ship i'm hoping he's going to be a stud BECAUSE
i think LOSING. Cj Gardner, johnson and, yes well there
were some hiccups here and there with his play on the.
Field you, know six interceptions last. SEASON i, believe If
i'm not, mistaken maybe he was here then the previous
or two seasons before that it was another six. Interceptions you,
know that's defensive playmaking right, there that you're. Losing SO
i have that. CONCERN i definitely have that. Concern but

(01:17:16):
BEFORE i let you, go, buddy AND i very much
appreciate you taking the time to jump on, here AND
i hesitate to actually ask you, this but it's part
of the narrative with This Philadelphia eagles team at this
point in. Time as ridiculous as it is in my,
opinion the storylines that just Surround Jalen hurts by much
of the more national media. Types, AGAIN i think it's

(01:17:40):
pretty ridiculous just how he's not a top five quarterback
in the. League you, know he's if he didn't have
this piece or that, piece he really wouldn't be that
great of a. Quarterback he'd be a mid, level mid tier.
Quarterback you, know many have said that quarterbacks Like Jared
goff And Justin herbert should be ranked well ahead Of Jalen,
hurts AND i think that's absolutely. Crazy and, again these

(01:18:02):
lists and this type of discussion and, narrative it's all
subjective in a lot of. Ways but there is proof
in That Jalen hurts has won various playoff. Games he
has A Super bowl, ring he has been in THE
mvp of The Super, bowl which not a lot of
quarterbacks in this league can put on their. Resume the
craziness surrounding this, narrative it drives me. Nuts AND i

(01:18:24):
did want to ask you what are your thoughts on
this narrative narrative as we're like heading into this season.

Speaker 3 (01:18:30):
Here, Yeah i'm going to try to bite my tongue.
HERE i was asked about this AND i on a
radio show the other day AND i found myself yelling
in the fact should be in the top. Five AND i,
APOLOGIZE i, said, Listen i'm. Sorry i'm getting really worked
up about. This that's how MUCH i believe That ertz
is really being disrespected and. OVERLOOKED i, mean all this

(01:18:52):
guy does is. Win he's a. Winner he's a winning.
Quarterback it doesn't matter how it. Looks he. Wins and
you know these guys that are ahead of, Him Justin
herbert To Sam Justin herbert that threw four interceptions in
the playoff lost last, year who has yet to win
a playoff game as two of? Them Lamar, Jackson, okay good.

(01:19:12):
Quarterback what's his playoff?

Speaker 2 (01:19:13):
Rger? Oh three and?

Speaker 3 (01:19:14):
Six, yeah, yeah it's a little. Different you, KNOW i
was thinking about this today And Jalen hurts and what
his signature play, is and you, Know i'll say that to,
me this is what Makes Jalen hurts a. Winner in
THAT nfc championship game that became a. Route there's two
plus minutes to go in the first. Half washington just,
scored made it fourteen to. Twelve right before, halftime The

(01:19:37):
eagles are fourth and, five just inside, midfield and they
go for it And hurts delivers a beautiful ball down
the left sideline to Aj brown for a first down
that The eagles finish in a. Touchdown, Yep that to
me is a winning throw a winning. Quarterback Can Joe
burrow make that throw at that? Moment Can Lamar? Jackson

(01:19:57):
can any of these guys that are put ahead of?
Him i'm not so, sure you. Know and we've seen
him make big fourth down completions and a lot of
them to A. J, brown you, know The gopher touchdowns
or first. Downs but The eagles aren't afraid to put
him in that. Position so you, know, listen Doubt jalen
hurts at your own. Risk it's certainly going to be
a chip on his shoulder for however long it, continues

(01:20:18):
and that's probably a good thing for him and The.
Eagles so he.

Speaker 1 (01:20:20):
Continues to rise to the occasion and until he's. Not you,
Know i'm going to continue to say he's one of
the best quarterbacks in this. League AND i think you would.

Speaker 2 (01:20:29):
Too.

Speaker 3 (01:20:30):
Absolutely oh, Yeah And i'm GLAD i was able to
keep that under. Control. Yep, yeah because tell STRONGLY i
feel about the disrespect he's. Getting you should be more.

Speaker 1 (01:20:40):
Respect you're a good friend of. Mine you can yell
on this show if you want at any, point my, Friend.
