The Philadelphia Eagles are in the midst of training camp, Howie Roseman has made a trade to bolster the defense, and the offense is currently cooking on all cylinders. Expectations are high for the Birds this season for sure coming off a Super Bowl win. This week, Alexis Chassen from BleedingGreenNation.com joined the podcast show for a deep dive into what we’ve been seeing during camp, as well as storylines and players to keep our eyes on. It was a fantastic discussion!
But first, the guys dove into a ton of Major League Baseball and Phillies talk. The worst umpire call this year, Dick Allen and Billy Wagner were selected to the Baseball Hall of Fame, and listener feedback about the Phillies trades and farm system. Plus, are the Phils getting too hot, too early before the postseason? (Approx. 5:50)
From there, they discussed the news of ESPN acquiring the NFL Network and other NFL-based assets like the NFL Draft. What does this mean for sports journalism and reporting? (Approx. 30:10)
The guys then dove into the Eagles defensive trade where Howie Roseman sent DT Thomas Booker IV to the Raiders for CB Jakorian Bennett. (Approx. 34:20)
What they threw down on the Table this week was a great, in-depth discussion with Alexis Chassen from Bleeding Green Nation about what we have been seeing in training camp from the Eagles on both sides of the ball. What should we make of CB No. 2? Should fans be concerned about the pass rush? Will the offensive line be as dominant as it usually is? How can Jalen Hurts continue to develop the Eagles passing game? All of this and much more this week on the Table! (Approx. 43:30)

If you're watching on YouTube.

Speaker 2 (01:00):
Yeah, that's an old that's an old name. So when
we first started.

Speaker 1 (01:03):
Hanging out in like late nineties, old bit, Yes, old bit.
We've got Eric Leonard with us. Man, how you been,
I I don't you weren't feeling all that well last
week we had an abbreviated show last week you were
supposed to jump on it felt bad for you, But well,
feel better I am.

Speaker 2 (01:20):
I'm better now. Yeah, I Im sorry.

Speaker 1 (01:23):
All the fans, all the tons of fans, the tons
of the mouth there.

Speaker 3 (01:28):
I mean, the letters were pouring in the flowers. It
was getting a little crazy. So thank you all all
my fans out there for caring.

Speaker 1 (01:39):
Yes, good to have you back, buddy, Good to have
you back. And a lens on vacation. We're getting we're
getting text messages from him and our and our group
you know, thread and chat with the with our buddies.
He's sending us sunset videos and sunrise I should say
sunrise videos, ocean videos and stuff. I'm like, what what
We've got a cinematograph for heres who's with his lady

(02:03):
and enjoying life.

Speaker 2 (02:05):
The man got married and turned in an old lady.

Speaker 1 (02:07):
I do well with those coke bottled glasses.

Speaker 2 (02:16):
Just slapping the moon on him and he's he's pretty much there.

Speaker 1 (02:18):
Oh god, that that Homer Simpson, that episode where Homer's
were of the moon move.

Speaker 3 (02:25):
Well, that would be Lenn's dream because he wouldn't have
to work on disability and we're work from home eventually.

Speaker 1 (02:30):
Yes, Oh my gosh, I know I could do a
podcast on that. Speaking of really quick, we actually should
have mentioned this. We have to do it. We've been
talking about it for probably a year. We had you,
Len and I have to do a process, the process. No,
he actually didn't. No, I'm just saying we got to
do it because I've actually mentioned it here on the show,

(02:50):
you know, with some other folks that I've been interviewing
and stuff, and like, we gotta do it. We gotta
get it done because I'm I'm getting real, I'm getting
real shaky as it as the sixer season is upon us,
here we need we need to talk about this, We
need to get some things out here.

Speaker 3 (03:07):
Yeah, because I feel like it's gonna be a it
might be a tough season to talk about the whole season,
so maybe we should get the process out of the way.

Speaker 2 (03:13):
Yes, to go over everything that led up to I
think it's.

Speaker 3 (03:17):
A good idea this season because it's just because, like
ten days ago, I hung out with Len and I
said to him, did we got to get all three of.

Speaker 2 (03:24):
Us on the show?

Speaker 1 (03:25):
Yes?

Speaker 3 (03:25):
And have a full blown two hour process show. Yes,
because we know once we get going, it's going to
go two hours. And I'm talking like multiple lists, yes,
multiple like worst trade, worst signing, best like that kind
of stuff.

Speaker 1 (03:39):
Just all right, you and I have to start creating
the foundation of this format we do because we can't
leave it up to him. Nothing's gonna have or happen.

Speaker 2 (03:46):
Okay, it's fun.

Speaker 3 (03:48):
I did tell him that. I'm like, I know you
don't really get involved like that, but I'll start to
write it an outline and he's like, thanks, thanks, you
know me too.

Speaker 1 (03:57):
Well yeah, god, well, we got a great show coming
this week, folks. Right off the bat, we're gonna get
into a ton of major League Baseball and Phillies talk.
And then we're gonna discuss how ESPN is now acquiring
the NFL Network and some other NFL based media assets,
what this means to ESPN as they remain quote, the

(04:18):
King of Sports. And then from there, we've got a
ton of Eagles talk coming your way. We're gonna get
into the big trade this week. I don't know if
you wanna call it a big trade, but we're gonna
get into the trade with the Eagles and the Raiders.
Eagles got themselves a brand new cornerback. They gave the
a defensive tackle to the Las Vegas Raiders. But then
what we're throwing down on the table, we got a
great discussion and interview with our friend Alexis Chasin from

(04:41):
Bleeding Great Nation dot com. We're gonna dive into some
Eagles storylines that are persisting throughout this training camp. Great
great show coming your way. So let's get into this
Major League Baseball and Phillies portion of the show this week.
Something I wanted to talk about last week, Eric bringing
it around this week here to the show. Arguably the

(05:04):
worst umpire call in Major League Baseball history, definitely this year.
I don't know about major League Baseball history, but it
is now up there. It happened just about a week
and a half ago with umpire Brian Walsh during the game.
He actually ended up making it. I think it was
about nineteen calls that were mistakes, but the one call

(05:25):
that was absolutely horrendous. If you're watching on YouTube right now,
we're gonna be playing this call right in freight there
it is. Wow, strike right down the middle. Strike right
down the middle in a game. This is a game
where the Orioles, Orioles and in Toronto Blue Jays are
playing each other. In slow motion. Wow, right down the middle.

(05:49):
My gosh, er I was watching that. I was actually
watching that on ESPN that night, and people were absolutely
incensed by it, and they should have been. The Oriols
broadcast was so shocked at their their announcers, Kevin Brown
and Ben McDonald. They were just roasting the umpire like throughout,
I mean, for for a decent amount of time. It

(06:12):
really begs the question should there really be robots during
the course of Major League Baseball games? Here? At this point,
this could be arguably the worst year for umpires in
Major League Baseball. It really could. The amount of horrendous calls.
We see it all the time in Phillies games. I
can't remember a time watching the Philadelphia Phillies where I am.

(06:35):
I'm just absolutely baffled by some of the umpiring, especially
behind home plate. So I don't know, man, I think
robots are going to be coming here before you know it. So, oh,
Eric's distracted. Oh what's what's happening here? Oh we've got somebody.
Oh we've got a Oh she's gonna be on YouTube.
Hi sill, he said, high sill, Hi Jeff, Hello, Hey,

(07:01):
welcome channel subscribe. Yes, yes, yes, always good to see
your daughter. Yeah, always good to see her. She's gonna
be going to college soon.

Speaker 2 (07:20):
And she's out here in two weeks. Yeah, oh my gosh. Yeah,
I know. All right, get out of here.

Speaker 1 (07:27):
To the show, back to the show. So yeah, talking
about this, really, I think robots are going to be
here before we know it. And and and I know
there's a lot of traditionalists out there. There are a
lot of folks like Lenn probably not gonna want robots,
you know, but it's it's gonna be coming, I think,
sooner rather than later. Because baseball is getting more complex

(07:52):
sports in general are getting more complex, and I think
we're gonna need some technology to help us figure it out.
I don't know what are your thoughts here on this.

Speaker 3 (07:59):
It's pretty simple technology. Honestly, it's not that quite. It's
not that huge of a leap in my opinion. And
the stupid rectangles on the screen anyway, we can all
see it for ourselves. Why not just make that the
strike zone teller like that? How hard is it?

Speaker 2 (08:15):
Seems like an easy one.

Speaker 1 (08:16):
I'm gonna play it again for the YouTube, guys, keep going,
keep going, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 2 (08:20):
So it's all there.

Speaker 3 (08:22):
It's it's that has been a staple of baseball programming
now for like what three four years? Yeah, pretty much
maybe five. It's it's it's been there. I mean all
the stat cast uh uh, all the stat stuff on
online too, like where they have the pitch like where
the pitch goes and stuff we're landed. All uses is
technology to just start implementing it during the game, because

(08:44):
whether we like it or not, like the things the
baseball has done recently, for all the dumb stuff they've done,
like most recently the uh well that thing in Tennessee.
It was the Reds and Braves are supposed to play
last weekend. Yes, at that huge race track. Yes, apparently
was a scar track, a gigantic disaster, like not even

(09:06):
because of the rain that you can't help that, but
like the outfield seats were up in like where the
NASCAR thing is, and it was there was like.

Speaker 2 (09:12):
A whole like fifty sixty feet even behind the fence.

Speaker 3 (09:17):
Yes, the crowd like it was horrible, but baseball's made
some good decisions, like the pitch clock has saved the game.
In my opinion, I couldn't watch three hour ten minute
games on a Tuesday night. Absolutely, two hour twenty minute games.

Speaker 2 (09:29):
Perfect.

Speaker 3 (09:30):
This is the next logical step because this year in particular,
and even last year that it's interesting you say that's
the worst umpiring call because the ones where they call
strikes that are so far out of the zone. Yeah,
those to me are like worse than that one. But
that one was really bad because it was right down center.

(09:50):
But I do want to say this. He played the
video again, just real quick. Yeah, yeah, let's get this
up again real quick.

Speaker 1 (09:55):
Yeah, here we go.

Speaker 3 (09:55):
Okay, so watch the ball. It's right down the middle, right,
I don't know who's catching. Four is for the for
the oal. It's probably the Rushman kid. But he watch
what he does with the glove here. It comes right
down the middle of the pike and he's still he's
he's set up on the corner of home plate.

Speaker 1 (10:14):
But he's taking the gloves over, taking the glove over.

Speaker 3 (10:17):
He takes it over and swipes it where the ball
almost winds up at the bottom left the bottom right.

Speaker 2 (10:23):
Hand corner of the strike zone box.

Speaker 3 (10:27):
If he had just caught it, maybe that just goes
strike that the ball just crossed home plate.

Speaker 2 (10:33):
Your glove is there.

Speaker 3 (10:34):
Strike the pitch framing, the framing extravaganza. The has happened
to catchers. It's wild, Like every catcher does that now,
a quick swipe to get the ball into the zone.
And those are some of your worst calls that are
non strikes. Sure, this is the first time I've seen
one where the guy, the guy actually framed it out

(10:54):
of the strike.

Speaker 2 (10:55):
Zone called a ball.

Speaker 3 (10:57):
Yes, Because and I was telling you before the show, like,
you know, my daughter's boyfriend has been a catcher for years.
He's going to college for it this year, and I
was asking him about pitchering because I noticed it last year,
Like it's just so every every catcher does it wildly now.
And he was like at the young younger level, like
that's one of the first things they start showing you. Now,

(11:18):
it's not your stance. It's not like throwing like that
stuff's important, like the big one. Honestly, the pitch training.

Speaker 1 (11:23):
Staff just bringing the ball.

Speaker 3 (11:26):
And in that one looks like Rushman got his picture
of a ball because he decided to frame the pitch
out of the strike zone. I you think the umpires again,
this is why you need the robot thing, because the umpires,
the umpires are behind the catcher. They're watching the glove, right,
They're trying to watch the ball, but as soon as
it's the glove and I think they make they missed

(11:47):
time these calls sometimes, and that one is a good example.
Robot robotic get be fulled by that right exactly to
look where the ball crossed his plate, right, I.

Speaker 1 (11:55):
Mean, probably one of the most egregious definitely the most
egregious um call this year for sure. But as we're
moving along here too, we also wanted to discuss the
fact that there are two former Phillies who are now
in the Baseball Hall of Fame. Just wanted to just
really mention it real quick, the fact that we have
Dick Allen and Billy Wagner. Billy Wagner finally getting in there. Eric,

(12:18):
how many years have we talked about Billy Wagner possibly
getting in? He finally gets in. He was traded to
the Phillies in two thousand and four, saw real limited
opportunities in his first season due to injuries. Kind of
had a pretty nice two thousand and five year, picking
up thirty eight saves with a one point five to
one er. So not too bad in terms of Billy Wagner,

(12:41):
But in terms of the legendary Dick Allen, I mean, wow,
what a career he had. He was signed by the
Phillies in nineteen sixty spent time in the minors before
making his major league debut in nineteen sixty three. So yes,
he initially played third base with the team, ended up
racking up forty one errors in nineteen sixty four, but

(13:03):
his hitting really catapulted him to Rookie of the Year
and eventually among one of the greats in Major League
baseball history. He finished his career with a two to
ninety two batting average three hundred and fifty one home runs,
one thy one hundred and nineteen RBIs in fifteen seasons
and had a three seventy eight on base percentage and

(13:24):
a five thirty four slugging percentage. So just a few
stats there. Just wanted to mention this, it's nice to
see some Phillies get into the Hall of Fame here.

Speaker 3 (13:34):
Well, okay, so Billy Wagner, Well, I'm gonna be honest,
I don't. I don't I think him as met or
an astro.

Speaker 1 (13:40):
I agree, I don't really.

Speaker 2 (13:42):
Think him as a Philly.

Speaker 3 (13:43):
He was here for two years, and believe me, I
had I had partial season tickets for both those years,
and it was electric when he came in. It was
very exciting because God knows the jose Maces.

Speaker 2 (13:55):
Of the world.

Speaker 3 (13:56):
The closers the Phillies had for years, the bullpen they
had for years leading up to four War was a
fucking disaster.

Speaker 2 (14:02):
I was there for a lot of those games.

Speaker 3 (14:04):
Yeah, where you're just sitting there like, oh, we're up
to the thinning, We're gonna lose this game. Yeah, every
time you knew it was coming. But he did have
a lecture two years. But I never thought him was
a Philly to be honest, I think I think his stats,
he's warranted to get in. I'll absolutely speak to Dick
Allen again. My middle name Allen named after this guy,

(14:24):
my dad's favorite baseball player.

Speaker 1 (14:25):
Ever.

Speaker 3 (14:27):
If you you talk about his rookie year in sixty four,
he played all one hundred.

Speaker 2 (14:30):
He played one hundred.

Speaker 3 (14:31):
Sixty two games at age twenty two on on arguably
one of the better Phillies teams.

Speaker 2 (14:37):
Of all time. They're the Yeah, they're one the flop
of sixty four. I think that they were up like
twenty some games and they finally they wound up losing
the pennant.

Speaker 3 (14:47):
But but man, just his stats that year, over two
hundred hits, thirty eight doubles, thirteen triples, thirty home runs.

Speaker 1 (14:54):
It's crazy.

Speaker 3 (14:56):
That doesn't happen anymore. Man, that's just awesome. And he
lovely in strikeouts two. That's That's what I'm talking about. Yeah,
and then but and it wasn't with the Phillies, but
his his his his al MVP season with the White
Sox is seventy two. Mike God, yeah, what a monster.

Speaker 1 (15:13):
Well he traded him. Phillies traded him in what's sixty nine?
They brought him back in seventy five when he and
Mike Schmid they had the opportunity to play his teammates.

Speaker 3 (15:22):
Yeah, yeah, and probably moved on from him a little early.
They probably shouldn't have traded it.

Speaker 1 (15:27):
Yeah, probably not.

Speaker 3 (15:28):
I mean, he didn't have any he didn't have great
seasons at the end there with him. But man, his
ops twice in his career or four times, like over
over a thousand. Yeah, just incredible career. And he deserved
to be in. And it took a long Was it
the veteran crew that got him in or is it
just like one of those.

Speaker 2 (15:48):
I can't remember.

Speaker 1 (15:49):
I can't remember either, to be honest, you know, but
I mean it's well deserved.

Speaker 2 (15:56):
I mean, come on, he should have just been in.

Speaker 1 (15:57):
He should have just been in. That's why whole game
freaking writers exactly. They're horrendous, just making it all about
them all the time.

Speaker 3 (16:05):
And here's and let's just i'll just talk Frank, here's
what sucks. The guy's dead to enjoy it.

Speaker 1 (16:10):
Exactly.

Speaker 2 (16:11):
Yes, that's why I hate.

Speaker 3 (16:12):
This veteran thing for guys that should have been in
the first place, because like it's always the guy's son
crying be here it's like, yeah, well we all do,
yes exactly. Asshole writers just can't like, did you see
each your ros?

Speaker 2 (16:27):
Except the speech?

Speaker 3 (16:28):
He was amazing, Yes, and he even I think he
even referenced that one writer who was like, oh I
didn't deserve to be in Are you serious?

Speaker 1 (16:34):
Yeah? Exactly.

Speaker 2 (16:36):
I love that.

Speaker 1 (16:36):
I love that guy.

Speaker 2 (16:37):
But yeah, that whole Hall of Fame situation is a joke.

Speaker 1 (16:40):
Yeah, absolutely, all right. Well, moving on with some Phillies
talk here. We've got some listener feedback that we wanted
to dive into. We've got Ryan r. He shot us
off an email in response to some topics we've been
getting into with the Phillies in terms of the trade
deadline and even the farm system. Here, Ryan says, hey, guys,
been listening to the show since twenty seventeen and love

(17:02):
the way it's grown. For me living in upstate New York,
it's a great distraction from sports radio up here. I
wanted to talk about the recent trade deadline and how
it seems that the Phillies may not have gone all
in as maybe the Padres did. As disappointing as it
may seem, and as much as as much as as
much hate as Dave Dombrowski gets at times on social media.

(17:24):
I want everybody to remember that before he got here,
the Phillies missed the playoffs for ten seasons. Ryan, thank
you for that. Thank you, thank you for that reminder.
Dave Dombrowski has changed this franchise into a better run
organization with actual prospects worth being excited about. I'm old
enough to remember the nineteen eighty World Series, which I

(17:45):
was eight at the time, which makes me also remember
the long years of mediocrity between postseason appearances. Yes, winning
a World Series is great, but we don't I'm sorry. Yes,
winning World Series is great, but don't we also want
to franchise that has a chance every year. Not trading
Painter and Miller may have kept the Phillies from getting

(18:07):
Stephen Kwan or Mason Miller, but at least now we
have guys in our minor league system to get excited about,
which to me points to an organization that is now
on a winning track for years to come, as opposed
to having a core that wins ages, that wins ages
out and no one to replace them again. Love the
show and love the theme music too, Ryan, Thanks so much, buddy,

(18:27):
Really appreciate you taking the time to email us, folks.
If you want to email us Philadelphia Sports Table at
gmail dot com, we'd love to read your email here
on the show and respond to it like we did
with Ryan's email there. So that being said, you know
what we were talking about this recently, Eric, the fact
that you know, we didn't want them to trade some
of the top prospects they did get rid of. Look,

(18:49):
I think I think Mick Abel could be, you know,
that fourth fifth pitcher in a rotation. At some point.
We saw some good stuff from him. We saw a
lot of hiccups from him as well. I don't know
if he's gonna be a number one or number two.
I think it's highly doubtful. But I'm glad what the
Phillies did at the trade deadline, and I'm glad that
Painter and Miller are still in the pipe line here.

(19:11):
I'm glad there's still those top prospects that the Phillies have.
And he's absolutely right. Ryan is absolutely right about Dave Dombrowski.
And I cannot stand when a certain sector of Phillies'
nation craps on Dave Dombrowski, because you know what you're
not going to get it perfect all the time. But
he's taken this franchise, this organization and team and brought

(19:32):
it back to some respectability, respectability, like major respectability. So
I don't know what were your thoughts with Ryan's email.
I thought he was pretty spot on.

Speaker 2 (19:42):
No, he's pretty spot on.

Speaker 3 (19:44):
First of all, anyone under thirty who criticizes this team
in Dobrowski in any aspect of it can shut the
fuck on.

Speaker 2 (19:54):
I remember late nineties.

Speaker 1 (19:56):
You were just saying jose Mesa too, you know that? Correct?

Speaker 3 (20:00):
How many games did you and I see with Len
at the vet jose Masa blue the fuck now many times?
But like I remember, I remember post wait like three
years afterwards, twelve thirteen fourteen, when they didn't have any
prospects speaking to speaking here to to uh sorry, Ryan's Ryan's.

Speaker 2 (20:20):
Email twenty fifteen.

Speaker 1 (20:21):
It was horrendous.

Speaker 2 (20:23):
Yeah, and and and.

Speaker 3 (20:25):
It's but but I have to kind of say, though,
we traded a lot of our prospects away to have
those good teams at the end of the two thousand
and two thousands, but none of those prospects really did anything,
that's true.

Speaker 2 (20:38):
It was like it was like a house of cards.
It felt like. But regardless of that, those teams were
horrible to watch.

Speaker 3 (20:43):
So for Debrassity to commit and do what he did
to turn this team not just respect world, to actually
make a World Series so far, maybe make another one,
can't hear the criticism completely agree with. I thought mick
Abel should have absolutely been on the table, Yeah, no problem.

Speaker 2 (20:59):
And to get Durand for him, and I forget the
other guy they got rid of. Yeah, just I feel like.

Speaker 3 (21:07):
It's a steal, honestly, Yeah, because I think mcabele's ceiling
is a three, like a good three. I would about
the other kid, yeah, yeah, yeah, just saying like that
was the right trade to make. They they brought in,
And I don't know, if you're a Twins fan, how
do you even remotely cheer for this team or go
another game after they trade away their entire playoff roster

(21:30):
from last year they actually made the playoffs. But whatever,
I'll take it. The only the only thing I think
Miller is the only guy up in the air where
I'm kind of like, I love Crawford and Painter.

Speaker 2 (21:39):
I think those two are untouchable.

Speaker 3 (21:41):
Yeah, if you had to move, say Aidan Miller for
the Duran Thing and then Mick Abele for for Kwan
or a better outfield option than Harrison Bader, who I
know he hit out run the other night and he's young, fast,
wrong like, but he's kind of a platoon guy.

Speaker 2 (21:59):
That that's the one spot.

Speaker 3 (22:01):
Like I'm still afraid at the bottom of our order
going into the playoffs where man as a whole, Like
if you're six through, if you're seven through nine hitters
a bat in like two ten, Yeah, that's just that's
just a free inning for the team, and especially in
the playoffs with the pitching is going to be awesome.
I liked that they got another outfield bat, but if

(22:21):
if they if they had to move on from say Miller,
because I just think Painter and Crawford have more elite
upside potential. Yeah, but you know, the way the way
stop's been playing, maybe you want to keep Aid and
Miller around.

Speaker 2 (22:35):
Like, I don't know, but there's no there's no easy
answer here.

Speaker 3 (22:38):
That I I completely agree with him, like to not
get rid of like their top prospects. My only thing
would be, like, man, if you could maybe got one
more inch closer with Kwan or someone of that.

Speaker 2 (22:47):
Caliber and you had to move Miller. I wouldn't have
been against it.

Speaker 1 (22:51):
Yeah, I hear you, I hear you. You know, but
you're talking about something I think that you know, it's
a good segue into where this team is at and
where they need to be in the playoffs. And it's
something you know, you and I were texting about, you
know this week, is you know, are the Phillies getting
too hot early? And I think that's a concern. I
think that's something that we need to really talk about

(23:13):
because what Kyle Schwarber is doing right now is astonishing.
You know, if he go if he goes cold in
the playoffs here, you know, which is it's not right
around the corner. But like once postseason starts, if we
got a cold Kyle Schwarber, it's gonna be rough. If
we got a cold Bryce Harper, it's gonna be a
little rough here. You know, there are certain guys that

(23:34):
are just key contributors to this team. And you know
we're talking about is are the Phillies getting too hot
too early here? And I think it's a I think
it's a storyline that's gonna persist here until maybe they
do start going cold. I just hope if there is
a cold streak. It happens just like right before the playoffs,
and I know that's ridiculous. Of course, that's what we want,
you know, that's of course what everybody wants. But I

(23:55):
mean it's a I mean, it's a concern for sure.

Speaker 2 (23:59):
I text you that the night. Was it last night?

Speaker 1 (24:01):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (24:01):
Yeah, yeah, last night because I just had I looked
at the I was looking at my phone. I noticed
it's April or sorry, August fifth, and I'm like, man,
we're just kicking the shit out of the Oriels.

Speaker 2 (24:12):
This is so much fun, Like.

Speaker 3 (24:13):
But it's August fifth, yeah, Like, why can't be like
August thirty first and we're doing this, you know what
I mean, like kind of slowly heading into the playoffs.
But that was more so me just being like I
had a little superstitious about the hot team in early
auguste that loses in the first round of the playoffs.

Speaker 1 (24:32):
With this team too. We've seen this with this team,
you know, especially last year. They were hot at certain
points of the the year. Come playoff time, man, they
got cold, they just did. We've seen it.

Speaker 2 (24:43):
Mhm. I mean the nice thing is uh, oh god,
what's his name?

Speaker 1 (24:50):
Is coming back. No, No, that al the closer. Oh
Jose Alvarado.

Speaker 3 (24:59):
Yeah, he hadn't played in eighty days. Yeah, forgot his name.
But he's coming back soon. And I know I can't
play in the playoffs, but that's actually might be a
huge help as long as he's been like playing. Yeah,
to have him in Duran and at the back of
our bullpen for the rest of the regular season. Yeah,
I didn't really think of that until I heard he
was back. Because now you got a lefty and a

(25:19):
righty growth are closer, have closer material. Yeah, Like, man,
that's actually a huge upside for this team and the.

Speaker 1 (25:27):
Other unknown too. And honestly, like and yes, I'm sounding
optimistic saying this, we don't know what kind of Aaron
Nola we're gonna get because he's coming back soon. And yes,
he absolutely shit the bed earlier this year. It seems
like in even number years or I'm sorry, odd number
of years, even number of years, he performs amazing odd
number of years for some reason, he struggles and has

(25:49):
some challenges for some reason, but he comes back from
this injury and he kind of gets back into form.
That's gonna be good news for this team.

Speaker 2 (25:58):
I agree, and I think they.

Speaker 3 (26:00):
I think they allowed Nola enough time to truly get healthy,
because that was a pretty long break for the injury
he had. But like we talked about in a show
like that's also one that's nagging and kind of come back,
and so they're playing so well, just let him sit
as long as he has to sit, you know what
I mean. Yeah, a couple side notes, real fast, Kyle
Schwarber forty more. One's nine sixty five ops plus eight

(26:20):
hundred to win NFL or n L m VP right now,
I know tany plus eight hundred folks get on some
FanDuel not spawn a little bit. Yeah, I'm on Fandle
pay up exactly and then okay, so and one once
Nola comes back. I thought about this today. Would you
relegate Walker or Lizardo to middle relief Walker now Lozardo?

Speaker 2 (26:49):
I would too.

Speaker 3 (26:50):
I think I think i'd keep Walker up, Yeah, and
have if you needed a left handed start, you have
Lazardo there.

Speaker 2 (26:56):
I just think Walker has been better than lazarda this year.
It's not even close.

Speaker 3 (26:59):
Yeah, Lazardo started out hot, but then yes, you know,
I think I said a show a few weeks ago, it's.

Speaker 2 (27:04):
Like I think this is who he is.

Speaker 3 (27:05):
Yes, is why he's played with the Marlins for a
little bit and I was with the Philly He's a
mid four or five eer a guy yep that gets
you ten wins and ten losses every year.

Speaker 1 (27:13):
And yeah, yeah, absolutely, all right, great Phillies talk here.
We are going to be taking a break. But before that, again,
we'd love to hear from you. Philadelphia Sports Table at

TikTok at. Mister Jeff Warren can like our Facebook page.

(27:57):
Eric and I are on threads and also Blue Sky
as well. We're gonna take a break and when we
come back, we're gonna be getting into some Eagles talk.
Stick with us, all right, we are back and we
are gonna be diving into a story that just broke
I think it was basically this morning as we're recording
this on Wednesday night, August sixth, quick discussion here on

(28:20):
ESPN acquiring the NFL Network. Yes, they have acquired the
NFL Network financially and other NFL based media assets. ESPN
certainly remaining the King of sports. But the two sides
have agreed on a multi year extension of ESPN's rights
to broadcast the NFL Draft. As we know, they've been

(28:43):
televising the draft since nineteen eighty and they're gonna be
streaming it on Disney Plus and Hulu for the first
time in two thousand and six. One media conglomerate just
gobbling up another media conglomerate here, Eric had something more
and more of in the world, and uh, I don't know,

(29:03):
I don't know what it's going to lead to at
some point down the road except for a lot of more,
a lot a lot of more, a lot more rich folks,
a lot more rich folks, and uh, probably some more layoffs.
Right because because these these billionaire executives don't really give
a crap about anybody, Well.

Speaker 3 (29:21):
They don't make enough more and more right, right, Eventually
we're going to be watching everything on Bezos TV and
that's it. There'll be one channel yep, pipeline right now
our forehead buy things stop yep. I will. I will
turn this into socialist session if you want me to.
I know you will move on. But the you know,

(29:44):
just the common sense in me like, uh, you know ESPN.
I see the headline ESPN acquiring NFL network and NFL
based media assets. Okay, great, and within the articles you know, uh,
the NFL now owns ten percent of you p.

Speaker 1 (30:00):
Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that.

Speaker 3 (30:01):
Yeah, And I'm like, it goes off my back of
my head, like that's that doesn't seem right. That sounds
like a little there could be some conflict of interest
thing there in.

Speaker 1 (30:14):
Terms of journalism and reporting.

Speaker 3 (30:16):
I mean ESPN is supposed to be at heart a
journalism reporting thing and entertainment as well. I watched it
on again. I think the journalism reporting is kind of
got out the window. Yes, yes, I mean Pat McAfee
in a tanked up going bro the Dolphins dude, like wow,

(30:38):
well insights, that's amazing.

Speaker 1 (30:40):
Just stephen A just yelling all the time. We can
just do his radio show. He doesn't yell all the
time on his radio show.

Speaker 3 (30:47):
Why don't they just put McAfee and stephen A together.
Stephen A screams and McAfee goes, bro stop, that's the
whole show.

Speaker 1 (30:54):
That's it.

Speaker 2 (30:55):
That should be. That should be the whole show. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (30:59):
But like okay, so what if, like what if there's
a disparaging story about like Roger Goodell the ESPN wants
to do yeahcause he has Goodell just go excuse me,
Yeah no, we're not doing that. Click and it's like
that kind of stuff and the sports book stuff.

Speaker 1 (31:16):
Yes, Like if you.

Speaker 3 (31:18):
I think it's I think it's the it's just the hypocrisy.
It's like if the NFL just come out and say,
like we're cool with gambling, it's totally fine. Yeah, we
don't want our players doing it. They probably do, but
you know, it is what it is, rather than what
we take.

Speaker 2 (31:32):
A hard stance on gambling.

Speaker 1 (31:34):
And like, come on, you're down at Eagles games and
you see the fand OL stuff on the ribbon going
around the stadium or or draft kings, whichever one I'm forgetting,
but still you see it it's in the stadiums. But
ESPN has its own sports book. It does, yes, and
the NFL now is ten percent of a sports book.

Speaker 3 (31:53):
Yes, I've read. I've read some articles. We're like, well,
the sports book's not known, but it's like it's the
ESPN sports book.

Speaker 2 (32:00):
I shut the fuck up. I don't care seriously, but yeah,
I just that part of the story. I'm like, that
made me feel icky.

Speaker 3 (32:07):
Yeah, like corporate greed, corporate, like we're gonna squash a
story if we don't like it like that.

Speaker 2 (32:12):
I don't know, it's like the NFL would do something like.

Speaker 1 (32:15):
That, exactly, exactly exactly. Well, getting into some Eagles talk here,
Eagles made a trade Howie Roseman. Of course, you know
we always we've been talking about it is how we
going to make a trade during training camp? Of course,
of course he's going to make a trade during training camp.
Made a trade with the Las Vegas Raiders and got

(32:35):
themselves what seems to be a pretty good cornerback. Is
a guy who is probably gonna make the team. I
would think they acquired cornerback j Coryan Bennett. They sent
Thomas Booker, the fourth to Las Vegas. Just want to
give our thoughts here on this trade. I thought it
was interesting. I was reading some tweets and I was

(32:56):
over on our Bleedinggreen nation dot com where our friend
Alexis Chason who's going to be joining us in a
bit where she does some writing, or good friend Brandon
Lee gout as well. They put up a tweet just
about Jacoryan Bennett's how he ranks among NFL cornerbacks with
four hundred and fifty plus snaps. Check this out, folks.
Eighteen receptions allowed, that's third in the NFL, thirty seven

(33:18):
targets that's tied for tenth in the NFL. Only as allowed,
one hundred and seventy six yards that's second in the NFL.
Zero touchdowns allowed that's tied for first. Nine pass breakups
that is tied for fourth, and a sixty two point
four quarterback rating that is sixth in the NFL. That
is not bad. Look, there's certain contexts with this as well.

(33:43):
Bennett played well last year, but he suffered a knee
ending torn labrum. This year, he lost some ground with
the Raiders cornerback battle. He was basically fourth, and that's
what people are saying, Well, why was he fourth? On
the depth chart behind Eric Stokes, Darien Porter and Hamery
and Richardson Pete Carroll. He prefers longer, taller cornerbacks. And

(34:06):
Howie Roseman though, is seeing the stats. He's seeing the
analytics and said, you know what, let's get this guy
as we aren't one hundred percent sure who that cornerback
two is going to be. After Daris Slay leaves in
the off season, Keey Ringo and a Dori Jackson have
been battling it out for that number two cornerback spot
on this team. Eric, I think that I don't know,

(34:28):
I don't know if Jacory and Bennett is going to
get that number two spot, but it makes the competition
a lot more interesting. It makes camp a little bit
more interesting too.

Speaker 3 (34:36):
I think, Yeah, it's just one of those smart moves
by by Howie. Like no, no downside to it, yea,
you know, was where they going to keep six tackles
round the team and keep Booker anyway?

Speaker 2 (34:49):
Probably not? And like why not?

Speaker 3 (34:54):
He probably recognized that Pete Carroll went to LA I'm sorry,
Las Vegas. And you know, contrary to like him being
like an offensive coach, he's actually a huge defensive coach.
The legion of Boom were all like six two two
twenty at least and up.

Speaker 2 (35:09):
Yeah, and that was the key to their their Super
Bowl team winning team.

Speaker 3 (35:13):
So he just prefers tall, stronger, doesn't need not exactly speedy.

Speaker 2 (35:17):
And the kid was traded.

Speaker 3 (35:20):
In like basically let go because he didn't fit in
with what you know, he was part of the Josh
McDaniels thing.

Speaker 2 (35:25):
He wasn't part of peek regime.

Speaker 3 (35:29):
And it's Pete Carroll and it's like cool and how
he probably recognized that went and snatched him up. And
the stats speak for themselves. The improvement from his rookie
year to his second year huge. And you can't you
can't downplay going from a football situation.

Speaker 2 (35:45):
Like the Raiders right where it's so depressing, it's an
awful place to play.

Speaker 3 (35:50):
Yes, I mean, I'm sure Pete Carroll's going to improve
that team big time. They have an actual quarterback this year. Yeah,
he's a he's a legit NFL coach. I'm sure they'll
be much better. But to have to play your first
two years in that dreadful, dread that dreadful arena in
Las Vegas, no quarterback, you have no chance of winning,
and it's like, maybe he'll come here and get under

(36:10):
Vic Fangio's tutelage. He's gonna it's gonna take time to
learn the defense. You know, everyone comes into Fanjia. It
takes time. But it's nice to throw an extra body
in there. And especially he's speedy fitting with Quinnion if
he can make if he you know, makes the team
or even potentially starts, but just to throw in that
mix of competition for and you lose a guy that

(36:33):
wasn't gonna make the team anyway.

Speaker 2 (36:34):
Yeah, the Eagles get the better player. Like that's it's
as simple as that.

Speaker 1 (36:38):
Absolutely. I can't wait to see what he's gonna do
too during camp, because look, I'm not the biggest of
Dori Jackson fan. I actually was when he was coming
out of college. But he gets drafted by the Tennessee Titans.
I thought he was gonna develop well, just really never
did heads up to New York plays for the Giants.
I just I've seen a Dori Jackson get burnt way
way too many times and I just haven't been the

(37:01):
biggest fan of him. Kiey Rango having a decent camp,
but I think this particular talent with Bennett really really
gives that room. I mean, you want to see the
competition like it Nerds like me who are following training
camp like consistently every day, I'm getting tweets and notifications
to my phone during camp from certain reporters about what

(37:23):
is happening right at that particular point in time with
the plays. Yeah, like this stuff is to me, this
is important about where this defense is going to go
this year because seriously, Darius Slay not not not perfect
by any stretch last season, but a big, big reason
why the defense was so so successful. And I think
that's been kind of an underrated storyline. This cornerback to

(37:44):
position and who is going to take it, you know,
opposite side of the field from Quinnon Mitchell and I'm
liking this move.

Speaker 3 (37:54):
I am too, because you brought up a good point
just now. Not you know, the Eagles won the Super
Bowl reminder everybody, Yeah, and like, but you know, not
a ton of talk on like how to improve the team,
how to keep this going. I mean, I know there
has been some, but like one of the key things
I think has not been talking about quite enough is
like losing one of your starting cornerbacks on a team

(38:18):
that had is such a solid, solid secondary, one of
the one of the key reasons they won every game
in playoffs and killed that Chiefs team they shut down.
I mean, the defensive line did their job, but like
the secondary like stepped on their throat, you know, like
that was really the end of the game. And they
had the strongest secondary in football by the end of
the year, I think, And to lose one of the

(38:38):
key starters, it's like that's a big deal. And and
really not have anybody just step in, you know, they
didn't have a rookie just kind of just waiting in
the wings. Now Mitchell's now, Mitchell is your stud. He's
only his second year. I know he looked awesome, but
that is a lot of responsibility to be the top
cornerback at twenty three years old, second year in the league. Like,

(39:00):
I'm hoping one of these guys steps up to help
him out because I don't want him to struggle because
he has to step into the main role.

Speaker 2 (39:06):
It may not be quite ready for it, So I
don't know. I think it's a big.

Speaker 3 (39:09):
Storyline and one that could potentially be an issue down
the road, because you know what a bad secondary can
do to a team.

Speaker 2 (39:16):
Absolutely just horrendous.

Speaker 1 (39:17):
Yeah, absolutely, all right, Well, we're gonna be keeping tabs
on what happens with this Eagles team as we continue
to dish out the content to you every week here
at the PST Podcast Show, and we're gonna be talking
to Alexis chasin in just a bit, Eric, do you
have anything else? Before you head out of here? And
before I get to talking with Alexis here, I.

Speaker 2 (39:39):
Will start the outline this weekend for the Process Show.

Speaker 1 (39:42):
Odd seriously, that is gonna be such a fun show.
It really was. We all need to just like get
all this stuff out. We got to get it out
of us.

Speaker 3 (39:51):
It's a long time coming because I'm already seeing, like
you know, NBA people are saying that embid contracts is
it's a disaster, and he's not happy. It's like, yes,
we didn't even start the season exactly.

Speaker 1 (40:03):
Nobody can all stop camp yet. Yes.

Speaker 2 (40:07):
PG thirteen is his knees like noodles already. No, how
do we know this? It's it's August. No, I just
think this season might be a shit show. So let's
let's go ahead of the way.

Speaker 1 (40:18):
Absolutely all right, buddy, I'm gonna let you go, and
we are gonna head to break right now. When we
get back, we got more Eagles talk for you.

Speaker 2 (40:27):
And now on the table.

Speaker 1 (40:32):
We are back and to get into this Philadelphia Eagles
team during the course of training camp here and what's
gonna be happening during this twenty twenty five twenty twenty
six Eagles season. We've got our good friend from Bleedinggreen
Nation dot com. Their website is working now. It's fantastic.
Looks great. We have our good friend, Alexis Chase. And
how you doing.

Speaker 4 (40:51):
I'm good?

Speaker 3 (40:52):
How are you?

Speaker 1 (40:53):
I'm doing all right. I'm so excited. I am so
excited that football is almost here, whether it's college football,
you know what, we got Pens eight football come in
and I know you're happy about that. I'm kidding, folks.
Alexis is a huge Ohio State Buckeyes fan. She is
living in Ohio. But but the Eagles are gonna be
here and football is gonna be here, So it's I

(41:13):
can't wait.

Speaker 4 (41:14):
Yeah and go big ten. We can at least.

Speaker 1 (41:16):
There you go, except for Michigan.

Speaker 4 (41:21):
Always, except for Michigan exactly.

Speaker 1 (41:23):
Now Harbaugh's not there, so like now I don't know
who I'm gonna hate over there now because I mean
of them, that's true. I mean, but he was really
hateable for a lot of years.

Speaker 4 (41:33):
Still is. The Chargers have now really ascended up on
my rankings of teams I don't like because I love it.

Speaker 1 (41:39):
I love it all right, Well, let's get into this
Eagles team training camp here. First. Let's start off on
the defensive side of the ball here, and we got
to get into the fact that Howie Roseman is doing
Howie Roseman things. We've seen this already during camp. He
traded defensive tackle Thomas Booker the fourth to the Raiders

(42:00):
for a cornerback, a cornerback in ja Coreyan Bennett. I
love this trade quite frankly from everything that I've read.
You know, you look at that the film on Bennett
and what he is able to do against certain like
big time receivers in this league. Alexis again, I love
this trade, so wanted to get into it. I guess
the first question would be, what do you think this

(42:24):
trade is reflective of, I mean, kille Ringo, perhaps not
developing the way they're hoping, not enough trust in a
Dori Jackson. What do you think this trade is really
reflective of.

Speaker 4 (42:36):
Yeah. I don't know that it's that they don't have
trust in those two guys, But I don't think like
Ringo specifically has really taken much of a lead in
the competition. Yeah, and Vic Fangio hasn't been really as
complimentary towards Jackson as I feel like some of the
other players. So it makes me feel like they just
want to add in, you know, a little more competition there.

(42:58):
I could even see it being Ringo and Bennett, But
I feel like, since nobody has taken the lead, then
why not add somebody else in, especially somebody who's pretty young, Yeah,
who seems to be productive when he does get the
opportunity to be on the field, So you know, why not.
Although Nick Sirianni will, of course say it's just a
depth edition, we're totally comfortable with the room.

Speaker 1 (43:20):
Right exactly. So I also wonder too, and to follow
up with this, like, what should we really like about
this trade? I mean, and is there anything to dislike
about the trade? I can't really see anything to dislike
at this point. What do you think we should be
liking about this trade in terms of the future, whether
it's this this particular season, perhaps or maybe an well

(43:41):
into the future.

Speaker 4 (43:43):
Yeah, I think it's good in terms of adding like
another young talented player in the secondary. It gives them
another option, especially as they're coming up on having to
pay a lot of these guys figure out who is
worth a second contract, right you know, Ringo now has
had a few years, so you know, is he going
to be the guy? Is he going to make that
step from special teams player to defensive guy? So I

(44:07):
think it's a good thing to add another young, potential
guy who might be worth a second contract.

Speaker 1 (44:12):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (44:12):
I think the negative for me is more so losing
Booker just he was you know, productive last season, and
just in terms of depth, I'm more comfortable with the
cornerback depth right now than I am with the defensive
tackle debt. Yeah, so I you know, I don't really
necessarily like that trade off, but ultimately I think, you know,

(44:33):
Bennet's a fine addition. You know, it seemed to another
how he did it again moment, so we'll have to see.

Speaker 1 (44:39):
Well, talking about the defensive line, it's a great segue
into what I wanted to dive into next here, alexis
because the pass rushers are getting a lot of coverage
in training camp rightfully, so Moro Ojamo appears to be
developing well, even depth guys like Azi's O Laa and

(45:01):
josh uk is it U k o j I think so, yeah, Yeah,
they've they've They've been having nice camps so far and
in very good practices. I mean, the pass rush in
D line was a big area of concern for me
after this team lost a pretty significant veteran presence during
the course of this offseason. So I'm wondering what are

(45:22):
your thoughts about the defensive line, perhaps in a little
bit more detail. I'd know that you said you're just
concerned about the defensive tackle depth, but as it pertains
even to the pass rush from what you and the
folks of Bleedinggreen nation dot com have been reporting on
thus far during camp, what are your thoughts about this
D line and the pass rush really heading into this
season here.

Speaker 4 (45:42):
It seems like everyone has been planning for Morrow to
take over for Milton william Yeah. Like, as sad as
Eagles fans were to lose Milton Williams, I feel like
the team definitely knew that was going to happen and
are expecting Morow to to really step up this year,
and uh so I'm not that worried. I would like

(46:05):
during the preseason to see you know, like rookie Ty
Robinson step up. They've been really complimentary of Gabe Hall.
Him specifically is why they supposedly were okay with trading
Booker because Hall had really like taken a step up
this year. So I'll feel a little better after the
preseason in terms of that. I mean, we you know,

(46:27):
Jordan Davis looks great and Jalen Carter's wonderful, but some
of those other guys seeing how that rotation is going
to work out. I'm also not super concerned about the
past rush. I don't know. I feel like with Nolan Smith,
like everyone is just you know, saying how much he's
really taken on a role and listening to him speak

(46:48):
this offseason, and how Brandon Graham kind of, you know,
handed him those reins to be a leader. And Jaylex
Hunt is really coming on at.

Speaker 1 (47:00):
Sometimes folks forget about Jaylex Hunt.

Speaker 4 (47:01):
Yes, and he's going to be so good. And so
I feel like them along, like with the linebackers, they're
talented enough, you know, and athletic enough to also be
in that mix. So I think Fangio has a lot
of different pieces that he can move around to the
pass rush. So again, to see some of the younger

(47:23):
guys step up during the preseason will give me a
lot more confidence. But like right now, like I'm not panicked, right,
so I'll take it.

Speaker 1 (47:31):
Yes, I don't think we should be panicked when it
comes to this Eagles team, like on either side of
the ball, you know, I mean, we thinks could be
a lot worse. I mean, we could be the Atlanta Falcons.
You could be the Chicago Bears, you know where I have.

Speaker 4 (47:44):
Been burned more than a few times with being you know,
cautiously optimistic, so that it's true.

Speaker 1 (47:51):
All yes, we all have been for sure. All right, Well,
move it along with the conversation here and really kind
of sticking to a defensive storyline. I mean, look, the
rumors are floating around about if and when Micah Parsons
might be traded down in Dallas. You know you love
to see this storyline, you really do. You love to
see this storyline. The discord that's going on within Cowboys

(48:15):
Nation just a terribly run organization as we're seeing as
Jerry Jones is getting older. But my goodness, the Eagles are. Honestly,
you look around the web and the Eagles are actually
slated to be one of the teams where Parsons might
actually go to. Who knows the validity of this because
the internet is going to internet, But I'm wondering, do you,
Alexis really see the Eagles trying to make a logical

(48:38):
move to acquire Michael Parsons from the Cowboys? And I
guess the second question also would be what would what
would a package look like to get Parsons to this
Bird's team? Because I've seen some crazy things out there.
What are you thinking here?

Speaker 4 (48:49):
It's very strange because logically, with the rosters that Eagles have,
I don't know that it makes sense to go after
Micah Parsons, okay, But also when you have the opportunity
to go after one of the best, you know, defenders
in the National Football League, sometimes it doesn't need to
be logical. You just need to get him, ye, And

(49:09):
so I think it's really fun to think about. I
don't know, you know that the Cowboys would go that route,
And you know, I don't even think Jerry Jones is
probably entertaining any phone calls, but you know, he's the
best gift all thirty one NFL teams not named the
Cowboys could have. I don't know. I think he would

(49:33):
have to go for multiple first round picks, and honestly,
the Eagles have thirteen picks next year, so I don't
think the draft capital would really hinder them. I'm sure
you know the Cowboys would give us a bit of
an NFC East tax in there, But I like my
concern would be the next contract. I mean, he wants

(49:53):
that contract extension, and we're already paying all of our
offensive players. In two to three, all of our defensive
players are going to be up for those big contracts,
and so I don't as much of a magician as
how he is. I don't know where he could come
up with that money without losing several important pieces of

(50:14):
the future. So it might not be logical, But also
it's fun to think about.

Speaker 1 (50:19):
It is it's fun to think about. That's why I
wanted to ask if we're a podcast, Philly Sports podcast,
we got to talk about the possibility whether or not
it is logical. So honestly, I'm with you. I don't
necessarily know that making a move like this would be
the smartest from a financial perspective for this team well
into the future. When I think Howie Roseman has demonstrated

(50:40):
and shown over these past few seasons that he has
a good handle on team building. There's a plan, there's
a vision, and let's not screw with that right now
when that plan and vision have manifested into their second
Super Bowl win and a team that is likely going
to be pretty dominant this season and perhaps even in

(51:01):
twenty twenty six. So I don't want to put the
car before the horse on that. But to kind of
wrap things up with regard to the Eagles defense here,
and I know it's a general question for you, a Lexis,
but you know who are you most excited to really
see develop on the defensive side of the ball during camp? Here?
And why have you been looking at certain players on
this team?

Speaker 4 (51:23):
Yes, I've got a big one, Sydney Brown. I have
been waiting for him to have his moment for three years. Yes,
and he finally is healthy. He has had a full
off season. Fangio is excited, which I feel like when
you get Fangio excited about a player, it's like, oh,
he must really be good, right, And I just I

(51:44):
love his energy. He runs one thousand miles an hour,
like all over the field, and so I just wanted
him to have his moment, and I like, this is
his chance because last year, even with the injury stuff, like,
it looked like it was his chance. But then you
know we have DJ Gardner Johnson and you know we
had other safeties that it was like, oh, well, is

(52:05):
he gonna be a starter, and then he was still
like the special teams guy. Yep, But I think he
has it. He reminds me kind of like Malcolm Jenkins
out there, just like everywhere the ball is, you see
him like he's there and he's trying to get the ball.
So I really want him to like take it to
that next step.

Speaker 1 (52:26):
I hope he does. I hope he does for sure. Again,
folks were talking to Alexis Chason from Bleedinggreen Nation dot com.
She's on the interwebs out there. Should give her a
follow on Twitter, slash x and maybe over on TikTok
as well. Let everybody know where they can find you.

Speaker 4 (52:40):
Alexis Yeah, Twitter and ex at Lovely Buckeye and on
TikTok at go Birds and Buckeyes.

Speaker 1 (52:48):
There you go, all right, man, this Buckeyes thing. It's bothered.
I say that all the time whenever you come on
the show.

Speaker 4 (52:55):
Well, I mean it's fair exactly.

Speaker 1 (52:57):
All right. Well, let's take a look at what we're
going to be seeing and what we have been seeing
thus far from this Eagles offense. Let's flip the script
here one point eighty. The Eagles, as we know, they
have one of the most dominant, if not the most
dominant offensive line in the league. We've talked to We've
talked about it, excuse me before, about how well an

(53:19):
offensive line plays and how well they gel together, is
how productive an offense is going to be at any
level of football. We've talked about that a number of
times here on this podcast show. I know you and
I have spoken about it too as well when you've
been on the show, Alexis. So let's talk about a
few guys and some storylines here. And the first guy
I want to get into is Tyler Steen, the presumptive

(53:41):
starter at right guard. I mean, the right guard position
really has been kind of a revolving door over these years,
really since Brandon Brooks kind of left left this team
and retired. I'm wondering with Tyler Steen here. You know,
will he be able to make that jump and help
the offensive line continue to dominate. What are your thoughts here?

Speaker 4 (54:04):
I think he can. I don't know that he's like
still the long term solution, okay for that position, Like
I still think you know, next year, Like, I don't
know that he's going to be the guy long term.
But you know, everybody has really talked fondly about how
you know, he's taken a bigger role this year, how

(54:27):
much better shape he's in, things like that, And I
don't think they're just gassing him up just to do it,
you know. I think they do have other options and
other depth guys. I mean even Matt Pryor like could
do the job. So yeah, I think I think he
can do it, you know, And honestly, with Jeff Stotlin there,
like I wouldn't be surprised, Like he makes sure those

(54:49):
guys are plug and play ready.

Speaker 1 (54:50):
Yeah. Absolutely. All right, Well let's move over to another
guy who I love watching and he's been getting a
lot of love on Twitter, slash x, just in terms
of Super Bowl play, what he did on the line,
the type of vision that he has, how he's able
to really take care of blocking those stunts, that are
coming from other defenses, and I'm talking about Landon Dickerson.

(55:11):
My gosh, he's tough as nails. But the concern and
storyline I think here is that we've seen how he
can injure himself out there, and it's because he's so dominant,
it's because he's just putting himself out there on the
line all the time. Should we be concerned about how
often he's been facing these injuries small injuries here and there,

(55:32):
some you know, not as small. I don't know, have
you given this any thought?

Speaker 4 (55:35):
Alexis Yeah, in a way like yes and no, I
am sort of always concerned about offensive line and getting injured.
I feel like that group will get injured every year,
probably a few times. They'll wrap it up, They'll make
it work and keep it moving. I just feel like
that's the nature of their position in a way. So

(55:56):
that we saw that with Jason Kelce like he was
in but he still kept pushing. Lane Johnson pushes as
much as he can. Like, So yes, I'm worried, but
not any more than I am with all the other
guys on the line. Uh. And I think you know,
like you said, he's super tough, So yes, he'll be.

Speaker 1 (56:15):
There, okay, all right, And you mentioned the last gentleman
I wanted to get into, and he actually is top two,
top three of course, Philadelphia Eagle. For me, I got
his jersey when he was a rookie down at the
pro shop at the Link. And I'm talking about Lane Johnson.
It's getting up there in age. It's getting up there
in age. And as much as I hate to say it, uh,

(56:37):
you know, he's no spring Chicken anymore, but he is
not slowing down at all. You think he's gonna be
able to play at a high level this season, you know,
even after getting that ninety nine rank in Madden. Here,
what are your thoughts on Lane?

Speaker 4 (56:51):
I feel like he has never given me a reason
to doubt him. Yeah, everyer he comes back better than before,
somehow more in shape and more athletic. He and Kelsey
have both talked about how as you get older, you're
not maybe as physically gifted, so you have to be
more technically sound, which obviously makes them better players. But
then also I think Laane is getting better physically so like,

(57:15):
as much as you know he has to be technically sound,
he's also still super in shape, probably more in shape
than he was last year, and so I think he
set the bar for his position and I think he's
the guy who will top it again and reset the
bar this year.

Speaker 1 (57:34):
Too when he posts those videos of him and his
home Jim. He's a freaking beast and a freak of nature.
It's incredible, Alexis.

Speaker 4 (57:45):
I know, And you know what, Jordan Davis reminds me
of him now, where like he's so big but also
so toned that like it's it doesn't make sense kind
of but you're like, Wow, you are strong and probably
going to like hold guys at the line. So that'll
be good.

Speaker 1 (58:04):
That'll be fantastic. Yes, well, look, moving along here, I
want to get into some Jalen Hurts talk, you know.
Last thing. I want to be as a negative Nelly
at all with regard to Jalen Hurts because I love
the man. I love him for what he did last year,
how he's developed as a player. His overall just logical
and very mindful attitude about life is so refreshing as

(58:29):
an NFL player to watch, and the fact that he's
on my favorite pro team is great. But I'm interested
to see this season if Jalen Hurts is really able
to take those next steps in terms of getting the
ball to his intermediate route receivers in the middle of
the field. I mean, it has now for some time
been an ongoing storyline Alexis. It's something I hope he's

(58:51):
working on because it's going to open up this offense
even more in my opinion. So what are you hoping
to see from this Eagles offense this season when it
comes to the passing game, and even in terms of
Jaalen Hurts getting the ball to his receiving.

Speaker 4 (59:06):
Corps, it's really comforting to know that, like anything we
may think about Jalen Hurts or think that he needs
to improve on, there's no doubt that he doesn't already
know that and is already working on it. Of all
the quarterbacks in the league, like some of them, I'm
sure like still on vacation somewhere and he's like, no,

(59:27):
I need to step up the passing game or you know,
whatever it may be. Yeah, So that's at least comforting.
But for me, I'd like to see them get more
points early in games, like in the first quarter of games,
would be just so great. And you know, I think
that that also comes with getting the passing game going

(59:48):
a little bit more like, yes, it's great to run
Saquon and get their defense tired, and then in the
second half you've got them where you want them, but like,
you know, maybe get the passing game going earlier. And
I feel like I was rewatching, you know, some of
those documentaries and things, and the offense was so dominant

(01:00:08):
in the postseason run that it's easy to forget that.
Like you spent half the season saying like, fix this,
what are you doing right? Which is actually really encouraging
because there's there's so much to improve on, but they
were already also so good, so like the ceiling is
incredible to think about. So yes, seeing some of those

(01:00:29):
incremental improvements could make a really big difference. And so
I'm just hoping for like a faster start both in
the season and in each game, I think.

Speaker 1 (01:00:41):
And that is a fantastic segue into this next and
last topic before I let you go, because yes, this
offense is very solid. We know that we have so
many returning players and veterans at just about every position
that we're going to be seeing on the field this season.
Who are you most excited to really see develop on

(01:01:02):
the offensive? Side of the ball during camp here and why.
I mean it may not have to be a starter,
but I mean, who are you looking forward to seeing
developing through camp and maybe the early part of the season.

Speaker 4 (01:01:13):
It's gotta be Johan Dotson.

Speaker 1 (01:01:15):
Here we go.

Speaker 4 (01:01:16):
Yeah, he filled his role so well last year. You know,
he did what he was asked, He never complained, and
he got into Philly like just before the season. He
had no off season with the team, barely any training camp,
and he still you know, was effective, Like he made

(01:01:38):
big plays when it mattered most Like if you look
at his film through the whole season, there are quite
a bit of you know, route issues and you know
things like that that if he cleans those up and
has a whole off season with the offense and with
Jalen Hurts to like get their chemistry and timing on point, Like,

(01:01:58):
I think he could really, you know, take that third
wide receiver spot and keep it. But you know, there
is a lot of competition in that room. But I
think he really he's earned the chance to like earn
the position.

Speaker 1 (01:02:13):
Yes, absolutely, it was great talking to her folks, Alexis
Chason and follow her on the interwebs out there again,
