What is Laughter Yoga?!

The most common question our host Louise receives when stating she is qualfied in teaching Laughter Yoga. To anwser this question and more, Lotte Mikkelson, your everyday laughing queen, is a guest on todays episode of The Prozac Yogi.

Lotte and Louise discuss the history and benefits of Laughter Yoga as well as discussing the challeneges of making a unqiue practice such as Laughter Yoga become mainstream.

Everyone wants health and happiness in their lives.  But instead they are getting stressed out , depressed, getting less sleep, more negative thoughts and feeling isolated. Does this sound like you? Are you someone who wants to move on and bring more laughter and joy into your life? You are in the right place. Laughter Yoga could be the answer.

Laughter yoga provides a non-intellectual path to laughter. Laughter yoga approaches laughter as a body exercise that can easily be done regardless of mood. It helps counter stress and fear. Hearty laughter causes the brain to release chemicals that reduce stress within minutes. It is typical to measure a 70% reduction in stress indicators after just 10 minutes of laughter!

The notion that Laughter Yoga could ease symtpoms of depression is discussed as an option. Laughter promotes a positive outlook. Hearty laughter quickly could counter depression and a negative outlook, especially when practiced within a group of peers. This is partly due to chemicals released by the brain and partly caused by a powerful emotional response to the group dynamics of laughter yoga.

Laughter Yoga is a revolutionary idea – simple and profound. An exercise routine, it is sweeping the world and is a complete well-being workout. Developed by a medical doctor from India Dr. Madan Kataria and it has spread across 100 countries.

The concept of Laughter Yoga is based on a scientific fact that the body cannot differentiate between fake and real laughter. One gets the same physiological and psychological benefits.

This episode highlights a wonderful style of yoga and sheds lights of the mystery of this practice.
