This week, Captain and Wilson discuss the 2024 horror, "Stream," which is a modern slasher with streaming twist. It takes place at an isolated hotel that is turned into a murderous arena where killers compete for the highest body count while online viewers place bets on the bloodshed. 

The film features Jeffrey Combs, Tim Reid, Dee Wallace, Danielle Harris, and Tony Todd (...and a teeny smidge of Tim Curry).

I did have something I wantedto talk to you about.

Yeah, okay.

Captain (01:06):
So I don't know if you remember, but the Annabelle doll
was on tour right I did hearabout that.
There was a thing when it wentthrough New Orleans, that the
prisoner escaped and an oldslave property burned down right

Like these things.
These big things happened inNew Orleans the same time
Annabelle got there and peoplewere like making jokes about it.
Okay, well, apparently one ofthe people that was on tour with
Annabelle doll said he was likehe's like a paranormal
investigator.
I believe he owns Annabelledoll and he is the son-in-law of
the warrens.

It sounds like the family didn'twant the doll, but the
son-in-law was like I'll takethe doll okay I believe, is what
happened, um, and he's like,yeah, he's known as like a
paranormal investigator, danrivera, okay, while on the
annabelle tour he's only 54,while on the Annabelle tour he's
only 54.
While on the Annabelle tour, hewas found dead in his hotel

And people are like freaking out about this because
Annabelle is out here stilldoing Annabelle things.

Wilson (02:18):
I mean, it was probably just entirely coincidental.

Captain (02:22):
Yes, but he's not like um.
I don't believe there wasanything.
You know that people wereconcerned about his health like
any you know any time aroundthis um.
But yeah, he was um touringwith the alleged haunted doll
and on tuesday, middle of Julywhat was that?

July 16th or something it wasannounced that he had.
He suddenly died at 54.
He was an army veteran and hedied in his during the Devil's
Devil's on the Run tour and Ibelieve that he was found in his
hotel room.
Now, I didn't see this untilright now, but apparently they

did finally release thatannabelle was not in the room
when he died I mean, I guessthat's like literally like as if
she's a murder suspect and thengiving her an alibi she's not
going to stay in the room afterthe murder.
But again, I don't think theyknow exactly what the cause of

death was, or they haven'treleased it to the public.
Maybe it just said nothing wassuspicious in the room.

Wilson (03:38):
Hmm, okay.

Captain (03:40):
His cause of death is still pending is what it says.
Wow, Earlier that day he toldcolleagues that he wasn't
feeling well.
It was Annabelle, for sure.

Wilson (03:52):
Yeah.

Well, I just thought that waskind of cool, like this
Annabelle tour keeps puttingnews stories out here.

Wilson (04:03):
Yeah, I haven't been following any of it, but I mean
the.
New.

Orleans thing was really the New Orleans thing was
really really big.
I even think I put it on theRed Room Like I reposted
something on the Red Room page,because there was a couple memes
out there.
Speaking of memes, people willnot leave this couple alone at
the Coldplay concert, which.
I get it, oh my gosh concertwhich I get it, oh my gosh, I
get it, but oh my god, it islike enormous what's happening

on the internet right now ohyeah, memes are everywhere it's
insane what's happening.

Wilson (04:34):
I'm like I get it but yeah, and nobody feels bad for
them no, not really.

Captain (04:41):
I mean the wife quickly was take my last name off my
Facebook, right now.
Apparently.
She got a lot of support onsocial media from random
strangers that don't know her,but they reacted so poorly to
being on that camera.
You couldn't have reacted morepoorly, I feel like.

Wilson (05:04):
Yeah, I guess it's just instinctual, but like yeah you
were already.
You were on camera.
Doing that like jumping awaywill do nothing, and it made it
more obvious yeah, it was.

Captain (05:18):
Uh, it was so rough and I don't really know much about
coldplay, but people were sayingthat the lead singer, the chris
martin martin guy, they weresaying that, like you know, he's
like the nicest dude in theworld.
So to make that statement abouthow, like I don't know, these
people look like they might becheating, it was like even more
icing on the cake.
It's like, I don't know,apparently this like really nice

dude was the one that was likeyou know outing you, I guess,
yeah um, but yeah, they will notleave those people alone and
they'll never let that down.
So let's hope they have eachother forever I heard he's
already suspended from work uh,yeah, I don't.
I'm not surprised.

So first Silo.

Finally, it's a really good show.

Wilson (06:38):
I love the theme song also.
It just sets the tone.
It's just okay.
I have tried to get you towatch Silo forever.

you were like I took a long pause between like the
second to last.
In the last episode I was likeyou're fired and then this is
your only job right now.

Wilson (06:58):
Yeah, yeah, um, so I like that and it's just.
My appreciation for RebeccaFerguson has just grown
immensely.

Oh, she's a great actress.
I watched her.
You know I loved her as the MadHatter.

Wilson (07:10):
Yeah, I think that's where I first like recognized or
like knew she was and I waslike she's good.

Captain (07:16):
And then she does this role Amazing at this role,
amazing.
And then she's in.
We watched all the MissionImpossible movies and she's in.
We watched all the MissionImpossible movies and she's like
the main role in there and Idon't think you're supposed to
binge those movies, because webinge them and she has.
I don't know if the writers aretracking this or not, but

Rebecca Ferguson as thatcharacter, her like main fight
move is she like jumps up onpeople's shoulders and like
kicks them to the ground and wealso.
Every time she did it while wewere watching the movies, we
were like Ooh shoulders, getthem with the shoulders.
Like every cause, she does itlike a dozen times.
She like yeets herself onsomebody's shoulders and then,

like, kicks them to the ground,and I even, like liked her
character in that too.
But yeah, she's a fantasticactress.

Yeah, I'll probably watch her in anything.

Honestly, yeah, does she do a horror movie?
We should get her, she would Imean.

Silo's almost there too.

Captain (08:17):
Yeah, almost yeah, we do sci-fi stuff.
I mean it's yeah, and you saidthat Common really pisses you
off, but bernard's characters,bernard's character is, I think,
the one that gets to me themore I think I don't mind
bernard because he's also smart,whereas, like common's,

character is just like he's thebad guy and he's doing these
like little things to undermineeveryone, and then his scheming
wife also too.

Wilson (08:49):
They're just busybodies.

Captain (08:51):
She is a big schemer for sure.
I don't know how much more doyou have of the show.
I love the show.
I feel like maybe episode 7 or 8is next okay, okay, and there's
10, there's 10, I think there's10, at least the first season,

I think, had 10 yeah, the firstseason, the very final scene, is
such such a gooping gag.
I mean, it's so like I was notexpecting that.
I guess I didn't know what toexpect.
Um, and you get some more ofthat in the in season two.
Apparently it's based on a bookseries.

It's like really really big,like the series itself has many
books, I think uh, okay, I sorry, I was like trying to remember.
Um, yeah, I've heard at least abook or two oh, you know, I was
looking rebecca ferguson, Iforgot she's also a character in
dune oh yes, lady jessica, Iwas just saying that late to

jessica um, I should lookthrough if any of these are
horror movies.
They don't really sound like itthough.

I'm just adding my watch list.
I think I've seen it, but Lifeshe's in with Jake Gyllenhaal
and Ryan Reynolds.
I think that's a horror.

Life it's 2017 oh my god, did I watch this movie.
It's a sci-fi movie.

Wilson (10:26):
I'm pretty sure, like if they're in space.

Captain (10:28):
I've seen it let's add it to the list okay, let's just
do a quick check to see if wemaybe have done it before there
ain't no way I it.
I don't think so.
It doesn't sound familiar.

Okay, good, we have done very similar sci-fi movies,
I believe, but I'll justpip-pop it onto the list.

Wilson (10:58):

But the other thing I wanted totalk to you about was the
Institute which we both read.
I just recently finished it.
I did, you did read it first,uh, but like, basically right
after I finished the book or Iwas getting close I realized
they had a show coming out andit premiered like last week or
two weeks ago.

Did you start it?

Captain (11:22):
I actually caught up.
I actually lied, never evenlooked at it.
I did actually catch up.
I'm all the way caught upbecause I had the time.
Oh yeah, there are somedifferences, but I kind of see
why they're doing them, just tomake it simpler my biggest gripe

(11:43):
with the show, which I feellike I wasn't even trying to
pick it apart, but you knowthey're.
They're hiring young actors toplay these roles because they
are children in the book.
But listen, the main guy,what's his name?
lucas or something yeah um, yeah, it is staunch opposites.

(12:04):
Um, when you can tell thescenes that they film towards
the beginning, where he'sawkward he's, he's like his
timing is off, it's reallystrange.
And you can tell he's likeinexperienced, and the scenes
that they shot towards the endwhere he is more casual, more
cool, he flows better, like Ican, they are splicing,
obviously, because they don'tfilm things in order and I can

(12:27):
physically see the difference inthe scenes that he shot earlier
and the scenes he shot later,like he literally you can see
him growing as an actor.
And I wasn't, like I said, Iwasn't really trying to do that,
but it was so uh, like I don'tknow eye-catching.
When I am noticing how awkwardhe is in certain scenes, I'm

like, oh my god, they justpicked around him.
You know young kid that wantsto be an actor, whatever.
I mean, he's supposed to beyoung, so what are they gonna do
?
And then, but a couple sceneslater, I'm like okay, he's
actually acting normal.
I can tell the scenes cut backand forth, obviously, with what
they film early and later, andI'm like it's a little

off-putting.
I try to let it go, but I canjust tell.

Wilson (13:18):
Are you going to finish it then?

Probably it doesn't have the best rating.
I think it's like a 70 maybe onRotten Tomato, maybe.

Wilson (13:25):
Yeah, it feels like an MGM show oh definitely,
definitely.

Captain (13:33):
But I don't know.
I'm just like I wish they Iguess there's only so much you
can do with, like looseningsomebody up.
But if they don't have a lot ofexperience until like literally
the end of what they're filming, but it's just weird.
And the other kids in the show,I don't have a lot of
experience until like literallythe end of what they're filming,

When I was reading the book Iwas like I can 100% see this
being a miniseries, like it isserving that really hard.

I hope they don't stretch it into another season,
though.
They better not it needs to bea one and done.

The lady from the weeds is inthere.
Oh yeah, her character's playeda little differently than the
book, but that is not how Ipictured that that character in
the book at all no, and she'slike a little friendlier ish so

Monsters attack cities and theyhave, like monster hunters that

kill them.
But the secret, or like youfind out.
Well, I think you find out inthe trailer or whatever.
But one of the monsters isactually like the main character

He's a human but he, like endsup having a monster power.

Oh, that sounds interesting and he has to like
hide, hide it, because they killmonsters weren't you telling me
about another one with likeprescription drugs and it like
can heal you.

It's like a mushroom oh , that's not an anime.
I think that's just a regularcartoon called common side
effects.
That's the one with Hank Hillas the voice actor again which I
think that King of the Hill,doesn't that come out today or
yesterday or something?

I knew it was soon, I didn't know when.

I feel like it's the middle of July, maybe it's
August.
I wasn't a huge fan of King ofthe Hill when I was a kid, but I
feel like as an adult, itprobably hits way harder.

lot of the transformers when Iwas younger, but the quality

So this movie is real like um,it definitely has like that
terror terrifier vibe where it'sreal gutsy yeah, they did have

kill and I think, as this ishappening, we start to get the
picture that, like there arecameras all over the place and
it's being watched by mrlockwood and there are cameras
all over the place and it'sbeing watched by Mr Lockwood and

Yeah, there's like one, two, three, four and I think
very shortly after that you getthe romantic couple, the couple
that was like making out allover each other in the like
honeymoon suite.

I think he is a retired cop, but he just says sorry,
like I got my money that I camehere for yeah, so he was a
bidder yes, um, which honestly,the fact that he didn't shoot
during that meetup on the court.
I already thought I wassuspicious as hell.
I was like he's in on it 100,because why would you not shoot
when they literally told youit's time to play.

You are all going to be killedyeah, like why would you not
shoot, especially becausebernard even made a comment
about how he was on a case manyyears ago in a different city
that was very similar to this.
I'm like, okay, well, take thesafety off.

Wilson (58:16):
Like, get to it yeah, so , um, basically, after this he
goes to try to make sure that,uh what, the kid died and the
dad because that way his bidwins.

Captain (58:30):
Yeah, he's the last one to survive as a guest at the
hotel.
But before he gets to Lockwoodum, lockwood um gets mad that
Kevin quote unquote hacked them.
So he goes and steals Kevin.
I think, um, but I think Kevingets away from him and now
Kevin's like running around thehotel just hiding from the
killers.
I believe, yes.

Wilson (58:53):
And at one point Bernard makes it to like the control
room and he, like everyone,thinks he won because it looked
like the dad died, so he waslike rejoicing that he won all
his money.

Captain (59:04):
Yeah, it looked like player one died, um, so he was
like originally seeing that,yeah, it looks like player one
or player three, or player, yeah, two or three, I think it looks
like it stabs roy, um, and thenit's like part of it happens
off camera, but you still, yeah,you assume he's dead and then,
so you see, um, then lockwoodcomes in behind bernard and
basically starts to kill himbecause he's like you broke the

rules, you interfered to make it, so your bid won.

Wilson (59:31):
Uh, so he's getting punched for that.
But basically, while he's dying, um lockwood points out or
notices that the dad did not getkilled, he just put on number
one's uniform.
So he's still alive.
And yeah, he wouldn't havegotten the money anyway yes,
yeah.

Captain (59:48):
So yeah, I don't do we.
I don't know if we find out howhe survives, but I guess he
just, you know, overpowersnumber one and then just, yeah,
really smart for him to put onthe uniform.
But yeah, he just puts on thatclothing and then he goes to
find where his son, kevin, went,and kevin's almost about to be
killed by player two, um, butbecause he, like you know,
pretends he's teaming up withplayer two and like gonna work

with him to kill the kid, um,but then he intervenes and gets
kevin out of there, um, it was agood trick too no, it was good,
um, so I can't remember.
And what happens after that?
The two of them get out ofthere.

Lockwood reveals that he's like the witch, not witch
doctor.

So she's like back at the hotelnow because she wanted to come

And then she comes in.

the dad's mouth because Taylorcame up behind him thinking he
was a player and she killed himand I'm like yeah, it was an
accident, but this daughter,she's the worst daughter in
person.

She kills the dad, like as the dad is comforting Kevin,
being like we made it.
And then he's like, and then helike, then he like, is you know
, coughing up blood in kevin'sface.
I'm like, dear lord, the trauma, trauma would be brutal.
Um, and then, on top of that,lockwood's not even dead, I
think he.
He pops back up and, uh, taylorfinally beheads him with a

hatchet.
Um, but it's not good for kevin, dude, he's not gonna have a
good time no, it's actually likein the final scene.

of the players have died.

We haven't mentioned all of them, but like, oh yeah,
there was yeah, there was liketwo or three other rooms of
people, but, um, yeah, so kevinand taylor are the only ones
that make it out.
Um, but the final scene withthe ambulance stuff.
I thought that was pretty cooluh, do you remember that what I
mean I remember them gettingcoffee or something, but that
was it well, they get in theback of an ambulance and one of

the paramedics that are thereyou can see that he was watching
the stream the whole time andhe was like he was like I won
some money or something.
