Speaker 1 (00:00):
A guy who is taking time on his off day
to chat with me is a part of his best
start in his now nine years with the Indianapolis Colts.
It is Molei Cox that joins us on the Andy
Moore Automotive Group hotline, Moe, how are we doing today?

Speaker 2 (00:17):
I'm doing good?

Speaker 3 (00:17):
How you doing?

Speaker 1 (00:18):
I'm doing fine? You just heard that stat This is
the best start you have been a part of. How
is life treating you after five weeks of this season?

Speaker 4 (00:28):
Feeling pretty good? Honestly, you know, just got to keep
it going, but definitely definitely feeling great right now. Waking
up a lot halfy at the start of the season.

Speaker 1 (00:36):
The obvious answer to this is wins. That's what's different
about five weeks in versus at times in previous years.
What are the things that you were noticing during the
week in games that are leading you to that that
maybe you hadn't seen in previous editions of this team.

Speaker 4 (00:55):
I would say, we're just more so focused on our
process that of the end result. You know, just going
to going about our daily day to day activity more diligently,
and different things like that, practicing a lot harder, and
then a bunch of guys, we just hang out more
off the field and things like that, so building that chemistry,
and it's been like that since.

Speaker 1 (01:15):
OTA's all right with that, Let's talk about the guys
in the room. And obviously everybody's got their attention on
the other guy that is out there with you more
than anybody else in the tight end position, that is
Tyler Warren. At what point in time when he got
to town in late April early May, did you realize, hey,
we got something special here.

Speaker 4 (01:37):
Shut probably like his first or second practice. I mean,
he came in naking plays from day one. Coach coach
calls coach dollad it up for him, and whenever his
numbers called you, he always made something happen. And as
a rookie, you know that's something that's something that helps
build your confidence early, because I mean, if you don't
have success early, it might you might get down in

(01:57):
the dumps and stuff like that.

Speaker 2 (01:58):
But I think he's.

Speaker 4 (02:00):
Made We've all trusted him from day one, put a
lot on his plate, and he's unhandled it appropriately.

Speaker 1 (02:05):
Now he is a key cog of the team. But
you've touched on a word. He is still a rookie.
What's any sort of rookie duties that he has to
perform for the other guys in the tight end rumor
as he passed that at this point.

Speaker 4 (02:19):
Nah, I mean, you know, our room is pretty chill,
so we don't make anybody do anything crazy. I think
that stems from having Jack in the room for so
long and Jack not having me do anything, so I
don't really make him do anything. The only thing he
really has to do is make sure we all have
our towels after practice and stuff like that. But other
than that, yeah, and it has some snacks in the room,
but other than that, we don't make him do an.

Speaker 1 (02:39):
He's had a couple of things to do, so he's
not off the hook completely, but nothing embarrassed completely.

Speaker 2 (02:44):
But it's nothing crazy.

Speaker 1 (02:46):
Was there any part of you when he gets drafted
you go, well, there go my catches or is it
immediately you know what, this guy's going to help us win.
That's all I need to do.

Speaker 4 (02:57):
I'm definitely gonna be this guy is definitely gonna put
I mean, I wasn't really too worried about my catches
because I really coached to my role with being a
block and tight end anyway, so I didn't really have
many catches.

Speaker 2 (03:09):
The last two years.

Speaker 4 (03:10):
So I mean it's good to get that new f
tight end in the room because I still my role
really hasn't changed. I'm still primarily in line blocking, do
it all my stuff, but now we have a guy
in the room who can make plays.

Speaker 2 (03:21):
In a passing game, and he we can.

Speaker 4 (03:24):
Really do it all, honestly, So if you haven't know,
we've done a lot more twelve and thirteen personnel this
year and we've.

Speaker 2 (03:30):
Had a lot of success out of it with him
in the room, I.

Speaker 1 (03:32):
Would assume that you knew this and we all kind
of learned this that if the Colts had attempted a
field goal, Drew would have been the snapper after Spencer
got hurt. Is that a factual statement?

Speaker 4 (03:45):
I mean, yeah, but it's not like we don't practice it, honestly.
Mace has him and time to practice snapping the ball
every week after practice. So it wasn't like it would
have been formed, but it definitely would have felt a
lot different because it came up in a game situation.
But that's why we practice, and we go about those
situations in practice all the time. So I think if

(04:08):
it had come up, I think Drew would have done
a great job doing it again.

Speaker 1 (04:10):
Moiley Cox again, I can't believe his ninth year with
the Indianapolis Colts joining us now. Greg Reikstraw filling in
here on ninety three to five and one seven five
of the fan. When you hear that, knowing you're approaching
a decade in the National Football League, what what immediately
kind of fires off in your mind. You know, my goodness,
I've made it nine years in the league.

Speaker 4 (04:32):
One. It just sounds crazy hearing that's coming from not
having played any football at all. Two is also a
man time five because it doesn't feel like it's been
nine years, but it.

Speaker 2 (04:42):
Has nine years, and you just take that.

Speaker 4 (04:45):
Just cherish every opportunity you have in this league because
a lot of guys don't even make.

Speaker 2 (04:49):
It that far.

Speaker 1 (04:50):
When when did you first start here in college when
you're getting all these rebounds and scoring all these buckets
and pressing everybody out of the building, when you're playing
for VCU, when did it start to kind of get
to you that maybe your future was going to be
in football and not in basketball.

Speaker 4 (05:09):
A bunch of teams, well people always talk about it,
but my sophomore years when it kind of really took off.
But at that point in my mind, I'm.

Speaker 2 (05:17):
Like, I'm playing basketball, playing basketball.

Speaker 4 (05:19):
But then like probably halfway through my senior year, that's
when I was probably made that decision. I was like, yeah,
let me just go try football out. I mean, I'm
undersized six' six playing in the post and, basketball so
don't THINK i have a very LONG nba career doing.
That SO i was, like let me just go try
football and if it works, out it works. Out if it,
Doesn't i'll just go back to playing. Basketball but it

(05:40):
ended up working out and been here ever.

Speaker 1 (05:42):
Since you have played for nine, years you have long
since earned your. PENSION i think it has worked out
for you to figure. Out last TIME i saw you
around a basketball, game was it like The Kyle guy
pro am a handful of years? Ago you weren't, Playing
you And july And drew were just there. Watching how
often didn't do you still hoop at this?

Speaker 2 (06:01):
Point are you used to hoop a?

Speaker 4 (06:05):
Lot but then ONCE i signed a, CONTRACT i don't
don't really play basketball at all BECAUSE i don't want
to risk injury and stuff like. That you, know, so
BUT i might shoot around here and, there but actually
physically playing like hard news pickup. GAME i don't really
play at.

Speaker 1 (06:21):
All we always we always kind of put you off
the side because, again you were too. Good you played
on a major college basketball. Program we talked about this
in terms OF. J. T Twoy molowow being a guy
that had SOME d one. Offers if you take yourself
out of the, equation who do you think the best
basketball player is in that locker room right?

Speaker 2 (06:40):
Now although they are.

Speaker 1 (06:46):
Really how's his?

Speaker 2 (06:48):
Game? Yeah aar is pretty.

Speaker 4 (06:50):
Good and you see how that poletic he is, right
so he could slash that rim at.

Speaker 1 (06:55):
Will the man caught his own. PASS i believe that at.
Athleticism from On, sunday two days removed from a, game
how are you? Feeling how much do you feel it
in your? Bones the day after and the day after
AN nfl?

Speaker 4 (07:09):
Game oh, man it was crazy because, yesterday you, Know,
SUNDAY i was, like, MAN i feel. Good YESTERDAY i
woke UP i, think, Man i'm. HURTING i got home, like,
Man i'm moving. Slow but TODAY i woke up feeling. Great,
normally By tuesda you're feeling a lot Better wednesdays when
you're really feeling somewhat back to. Normal but that day,

(07:30):
after especially that game we just, played we ran the
ball a good amount of. Time so it's definitely a physical. Game.
Man it definitely takes a toll on. You BUT i, mean,
hey so what we signed up.

Speaker 1 (07:41):
For, again it's better than having a real. JOB i
use that line in my line of work all the.
Time Moli cox joining us a couple of quick, things
a little and going as we appreciate his, time especially
on what is his day. Off it's been in ten
or so minutes yapping with us here on ninety three
to five and one seven. Five the fan coaches always, say,
hey you get to enjoy it For sunday. Night By monday,

(08:01):
morning you got, to you, know flip your. Mind it's
onto the next. Game at what point in time do
you really shift your mentality from, Hey sunday was, great
but now it's the next. One when do you kind
of flip that switch?

Speaker 4 (08:14):
Yourself typically Around, monday around like three. O'CLOCK i, mean
because we Win sunday. Night Going, monday we watched that
film from the, game so it's kind of hard to
turn the chapter if we're watching the film. Again so
literally watch the, game enjoy the good plays and stuff like.
That but then That monday night we're moving on to the,
poet watching film on who we're playing, next and installing

(08:36):
our own plays and different things like, that BECAUSE i
mean week by week, league and a week goes by,
fast so you don't try to dwell on any any
win or lost too, long because these games come at you.

Speaker 1 (08:47):
Fast now that it is again year, nine for, you
it's it's you And. Grove you are the guys that
have been here the longest of this. Group have you
tried to change how you go about doing your job
from a leadership? Standpoint has that changed it all for
you the last couple of?

Speaker 4 (09:02):
Years Mo oh, yeah, Definitely because Once jack, LEFT i
was literally the elder statesman in the. ROOM i had
a room where it was. ME i Think colin was
a year or, two And jelannie And tree were. Rookie
so WHEN i was probably like year, Six i'm Like,
dan got a room a bunch of young guys. Here
SO i just tried to go about like as a

(09:22):
leading by, example hanging out with the younger guys a
lot more and different things like, that just making them feel,
comfortable but also just teaching them how to go about
your day to day business all in the workplace and
out the, workplace like having a routine and different things
like that to make sure you're always always ready to.
Go AND i think we like Having tyler in the room.
NOW i MEAN i Have tree who's been here a

(09:43):
lot Like, tree what is A tree's fourth year? Now
so he understands. It so he also helps me lead
in the.

Speaker 1 (09:48):
Room also Again Morley, cox our guests finally let you
go in. Again you've got three months for this to
all play. Out but as it lines up right, now
you're in, line frankly for the number one. Seed but
as the relates to the question about to, ask you're
atop THE Afc South and for the things you've accomplished
in your, career you have never had a chance to
play in a home playoff game At Lucas Oil. Stadium

(10:11):
what would that mean to you if that happens Come?

Speaker 3 (10:14):
January oh, man it will mean the.

Speaker 4 (10:17):
WORLD i, mean you, know we have a very active
fan base and we've had like playoff caliber games at home,
before but actually have a playoff game at. Home it
will be, crazy, sure.

Speaker 1 (10:30):
No doubt about, that. Buddy go enjoy the rest of day.
Off i'll see tomorrow.

Speaker 3 (10:33):
Practice, yes, sir you have a nice.

Speaker 1 (10:35):
One there are certain people that When i'm doing the,
SHOW i, Go i'm gonna lean on this buddy of
mine BECAUSE i don't give them a free. PLUGS i
don't mind bother them for ten. Minutes kind of like.
This next, Guest Drew, storn stops by to say hello and, talk,
well a variety of, things but a LITTLE mlb playoffs as.
Well how are, you my?

Speaker 2 (10:53):
Friend?

Speaker 3 (10:54):
RAKE i am outstanding in. You i'm.

Speaker 1 (10:57):
Good so you And Keanu reeves are buddies, now huh.

Speaker 3 (11:00):
Yeah, yeah we go way. Back. Yeah, man that's a
lot of people think he WAS, ai but that was
actually happened back In may when he was in town
for the. Race so kind of a cool thing we
sat on to help launch our. Merch but, yeah certainly
a cool thing that you could never even dream of
when you start a whiskey.

Speaker 1 (11:21):
Company all, Right so for those that do not, KNOW
i think you know What drew's doing by now with
in terms Of field Of, Dreams but there is this
picture Of keanu with Said field Of dreams. Bottle, now
my guess would be even with your status as a
guy that played in The bigs for a. Decade you're
not exactly going to be reaching out To John wick,
Himself so, like have you like gotten in touch with
his people about? This how do things like like that

(11:43):
take place behind the? Scenes, no just a lot of.

Speaker 3 (11:46):
LUCK i got a friend of mine that was working
on a documentary with, him so they got into talking
bourbon and he just fired a text over and was, like,
hey this is, random you, know can we get a
bottle For And i'm, like, Well i'm like, Oh SO
i assumed it was like him talking about a buddy that, like,
hey here's a look alike or something. LIKE i was, like,

(12:08):
well kna like Who he's like no like. That i'm, like, oh,
ABSOLUTELY i did whatever it. Takes, Man, like, yeah that'd be.
Cool i'm. Not and it was one of those things
too Where i'm, like, LOOK i just if IF i
can get a picture of, it that'd be, amazing like
just to have, it like whether we'd actually use it or.
Not But, keanu being the cool guy, is it wasn't an,

(12:28):
issue so we posted. It so it's pretty pretty. Surreal.

Speaker 1 (12:31):
Man so have you guys actually had a conversation or
you just happened to get him product that's.

Speaker 3 (12:36):
In no, no no. CONVERSATIONS i don't even know WHAT
i begin to say to a guy like.

Speaker 1 (12:42):
That but but as you, said by all, accounts he
is like the most down to earth like star you can.
Meet like he's not about you, know like like he
doesn't want to when he's here for the five. Hundred
he's a gear. Hit he just on's kind of hang.
Out he's not exactly one to do publicity and stuff like. That,
yeah it'd be cool IF i ever got the, Opportunity
yes for. Sure all, Right so what is new With

(13:02):
field Of dreams these.

Speaker 3 (13:03):
Days, well we are currently trying to get our new
skew out on the. Shelf we're hoping by the end
of the. Month we're calling It All. Star so it's
the largest blend of whiskeys. Ever we have taken our
juice and blended it with a barrel from every major league.
Market so we went To sagamore And baltimore and Like
Old potrero And San francisco and asked for kind of

(13:26):
like they're calling card of a barrel and we're blended
it all together like An All star.

Speaker 1 (13:30):
Team very cool website or social for more information, yep
yep at.

Speaker 3 (13:35):
Drink field Of dreams so And drinkfielddreams dot. Com we'll
stay tuned on. That LIKE i, said we're starting to
sell our hats. Now had enough people ask about, it
SO i figure we put them on the. Website so
that's been cool to. See i'm always a big hat.
Guy so, yeah, man everything has been pretty awesome to
say the.

Speaker 1 (13:53):
Least, Well i'm so happy that your second career is
equally as fun and cool as your first career in
terms of being a major league. Reliever BUT i have to,
ask AND i was explaining with somebody off there a
couple of days ago when somebody asked me about your,
dad and we'll get to him in a, second but,
WELL i told, HIM i, said it's really funny that
That drew is in the whiskey, business Because i'm not
sure his dad has ever had like a drop of,

(14:15):
alcohol or if he does, drink it is very. Rare
so have you actually Gotten Mark patrick to sample the
product at this point or does he simply leave it.

Speaker 3 (14:24):
Alone, no he has yet to say that he's HAD
i know he's had one shot of. Beer back when
Ball state made the tournament and that's been the extent of.
It but he did did admit to the full time
host of this that he might he kind of has
to do it before he.

Speaker 1 (14:40):
Dies so, YEAH i hope that's not anytime.

Speaker 3 (14:42):
Soon, yeah So i'm in no, rush but, yeah, no
that'll be, uh it'll be pretty.

Speaker 1 (14:48):
Funny the fact that you and he referred to as
a shot of beer should tell you somebody doesn't drink
on a regular. Basis just having that combination of things together, means,
yeah can. Stay it's more of a of a dry, lifestyle.

Speaker 3 (15:03):
That's, right all?

Speaker 1 (15:04):
Right is he still like remaking garages and furniture in his.

Speaker 3 (15:08):
Retirement the most recent, project and this has shocked, everybody
he's actually killing all his, grass so put in the
turf like a little putting green in the, backyard and
then the front yard is going to be turned into
like a rock garden or something so that he doesn't
have to mow the grass. Anymore so, again pretty amazing.
Turn he never thought. That my dad would, SAY.

Speaker 1 (15:30):
I can see why you went to stand for smart,
man you, know and you get it from both your
mom and your dad as. Well all, right six minutes
and let's talk a Little Major League baseball. Playoffs first of,
all as a, dad as a successful, entrepreneur exactly how
much baseball do you watch these?

Speaker 3 (15:47):
DAYS i try to watch it as much AS i, can,
usually you, know fitting it in between the practice or some.
Games but, yeah it helps with some of the games
late at, night to be able to watch it when
when all the other festivities had died.

Speaker 1 (16:02):
DOWN i resemble that remark close, friends, teammates guys you
keep in touch, with who who's a buddy that is
still playing of the eight teams that are left playing
in the.

Speaker 3 (16:12):
Postseason, man you could add you could ask me that
during the regular season And i'd probably have, trouble you,
know with as much turnover as there's. Been but, NO
i mean you got one of my really close teammates
is a front office guy with The, padres SO i
was kind of rooting for them a little. Bit but,
YEAH i mean out tell you, that just, GUYS i
play with nothing too close that you know once you

(16:35):
once you drop, outside, MAN i DON'T i tend not
to bother.

Speaker 1 (16:37):
Anybody we were starting to shift that direction drew in
terms of during your playing days of guys having shorter
outings and having openers and et. Cetera but what is
it like watching knowing that the starting, pitcher like we
Saw schlitter go, eight that's rare most. Guys you're, like,
hey he had a good. Outing he went. Five as a,

(16:58):
guy that's not that far movement playing. Career what is
it like to watch how pitchers are used?

Speaker 3 (17:03):
NOW i mean it's crazy all. AROUND i mean you
just look at the Absolute nintendo. Stuff the starters are
rolling out, there and on top of the fact, that
like these guys haven't seen these dudes a, bunch, Right
it's not like you're Seeing Max scherzer for the fifteenth.
Time it's like a kid that throws a million with
like a ninety eight mile on hour. Slider you, know

(17:24):
just stuff that doesn't make any. Sense and you, know
those guys are going out there and they're living in
the moment and they're crushing. It it's really fun to,
watch you. KNOW i said they got The yankees and
then the one kid on The Blue jays really crushed
it the other. Night that was so much fun to.
Watch and those guys to watch the best hitters in
the world look that confused at the plate is pretty incredible.

Speaker 1 (17:45):
Because you did have a cup of coffee with both
The Blue jays as well as The. Mariners you're kind
of rooting for those teams by any, shape form or. Fashion, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 3 (17:55):
DEFINITELY I Mean toronto is cool to see because THAT
i don't you, know unless people have been, there you
don't understand just how electric that city is right. Now
they have a pretty a PRETTY i, guess vigilant fan.
Base they Love they're just all about, it not just.
Hockey so that's cool to. See and Then i'm always
going to root for The mariners just because it's The

(18:17):
mariners fan AND i was A mariners fan WHEN i
was a, kid so, anytime and they do such a
great job and keeping like the old guys around that you,
know Got Dan wilson managing, now who was like one
of the coolest GUYS i THINK i met WHEN i
was out there, Playing so always rooting for him.

Speaker 1 (18:31):
Too you were A mariners fan because Of Ken Griffy,
JUNIOR i presume for some other.

Speaker 3 (18:36):
Reason oh, yeah one hundred percent All. Griffy, YEAH i
mean just not anything fresh, there but, yeah it was All.
Griffy but, uh you, know also a BIG. J buner,
fan which is Why muniers on one of our tops
because he's a legend.

Speaker 1 (18:50):
Again Drew storin you know him From, brownsburg you know
him From Major League. Baseball now you know Him field Of.
Dreams whiskey joining us here on The Andy Moore Automotive Group.
Hotline I'm Greg raikes while filling in FOR jmb around
ninety three to five and one seven five the. Fan
so much Of october is matchups and being hot at
the right. Time so IF i IF i say the best,
team maybe the best team, now isn't the best team

(19:13):
From september or? Before is there a particular team of
the eight still playing that you think is the favorite
as it stands right?

Speaker 3 (19:22):
NOW i mean it's tough to to go against The.
DODGERS i mean it's it's kind of they're seeing if
they can push the Old Miami heat team across the
finish flying. Baseball you, know it's it's incredible to. See.
Uh and obviously A phillies team is really, good but you,
know it shows you when the heart of your lineup is,

(19:42):
struggling like it's really tough to get get past that
when you're facing a team of that. MAGNITUDE i love The.
Brewers i'm a Big Pat murphy fan and like their
bullpen is really, impressive and you know that's the kind
of the weak spot with The dodgers that you're, seeing you,
Know Dave roberts using starters out of, bullpen which it can,

(20:06):
work but that is always a risky play in the
playoffs because that doesn't always. Translate but when, you you,
know don't have trust in your normal, guys that puts
you in a tough.

Speaker 1 (20:17):
Spot you, know you're a very unique. Person asked this question,
too and So i'll do my usual long wited explanation in.
QUESTION i vividly remember how giddy you were to talk
To Vin scully while he was the voice of The,
dodgers given what your dad has done for a. LIVING
i reference this because Of milwaukee to some degree playing

(20:39):
For Bob.

Speaker 2 (20:40):
YUCKER.

Speaker 1 (20:40):
A do you think they are and b what is
that relationship like with guys on a team and the
guys that are their team broadcasters that they see for
one hundred something dates out of one hundred and sixty
two a.

Speaker 3 (20:52):
Year, YEAH i MEAN i think that plays a. Role
you got guys there that have been there for a,
minute you, know and that it never hurts to have
that little Extra and you, know for a guy who's
legendary As, Uke LIKE i, MEAN i from WHAT i,
understand he was in pretty poor Health bay then last,
season so it wasn't you, know. Surprise so they've they've
definitely had their their site set on, THIS i, think

(21:15):
and LIKE i, said if it's for a personality like,
that it's uh makes it pretty.

Speaker 1 (21:19):
Fun all, Right Andrew luck is back at your shared alma. Mater,
uh in terms of a general manager, role not that
you're not busy enough as it, is any role At
stanford that would make you want to go back To Palo.

Speaker 3 (21:33):
Alte, oh that's a tough. One. UH i think it
all starts with the cost of. Living but let's like
if we could work past. That but, NO I i
mean IF i you, know For, ANDREW i think that's
gonna be a pretty incredible. Opportunity AND i got My indiana, roots,
MAN i think it would take something pretty.

Speaker 1 (21:54):
Crazy all, right bring On keanu as a partner for
The field Of Dreams. Company then maybe you can talk
about going back to The West. Coast that's, right that's.
Right maybe all, right before we let you, go we'll
get the plug in. Again you obviously do a lot
of bottle signings from time to, time and we are
not there, yet but we're inching closer To, hey this
makes a Wonderful christmas. Gift so any sort of sightings

(22:15):
or outings or tastings that are coming up in the
local Area as of, now.

Speaker 3 (22:20):
No explicit signs. YET i know that there are signed
bottles at some of the total, wines so that would
kind of. LEFTOVER i signed a, bunch so you can
always go ask, there BUT i will probably be doing
something at a big red or something in the, Area
so stay tuned on our.

Speaker 1 (22:40):
Socials sounds, good my, Friend give your mom and dad
my best or, right we'll talk.

Speaker 3 (22:43):
Soon thanks for having, Me, rake always good time with.

Speaker 1 (22:46):
You when the season ended for The Indiana, pacers and
did so After Father's, day and it's been like eighty
degrees or higher ever. Since it's hard to wrap your
head around the fact that The Indiana pacers next season starts,
tonight but that is the. Case on the road In

(23:07):
minnesota for the first of four preseason basketball. Games, man
that'll have the call on two of, those and then
north of seventy after that Starting october the twenty. Third
the man that is now in his twentieth year as
television voice of The Indiana. Pacers Kristin eric joins us
now in The Andy Moore Automotive group. Hotline is this

(23:27):
Like Christmas day for? You and does that like start
like the first day of the. Season how are you
feeling on a daylight?

Speaker 5 (23:32):
Today, YEAH i mean it's, great great to be with, You,
rake and coming off just a sensational. YEAR i know
the disapployment of getting so close and the injury To Tyreese,
halliburton BUT i think all parties will look back and
say it was a remarkable. Year and you, know the
good news as the season starts is all four games
will be On. FanDuel i talked To Jim, peterson who

(23:56):
is the analyst for The timberwolves Alongside Michael, grady who
won't do as many games this year as normal because
he's Doing prime And peacock AND, Nbc but they'll have
the call tonight and it will be On FanDuel Sports Network.
Indiana so that's the good news for the first. Time
the road games are. On The San antonio game in

(24:16):
a week and then we'll have both The Oklahoma city
And San antonio preseason games On saturday And.

Speaker 6 (24:23):
Monday so, yeah it's you, know it.

Speaker 5 (24:25):
Was a quicker summer than, Usual BUT i think anybody
in our position would take it because that means that
your team is highly. Successful and The pacers went all
the way to the final possible day of the twenty
four to twenty five, season and it was a heck
of a.

Speaker 1 (24:42):
Run knowing how meticulous you are and knowing the broad
the mind of any play by play, broadcaster we remember
these minute. Details it's part of what we do and
why we do what we. Do any any kind of
things that will always stand out to you in terms
of that playoff run that maybe the average fan wouldn't
have had a chance to see or know.

Speaker 5 (25:02):
ABOUT i, mean you, know we saw up close and
personal something THAT i quite frankly not sure will ever happen,
again not just for The, pacers but in the course
of AN nba playoff, run that you would have one
player hit game winners or an overtime you know shot
that tie hit against The knicks in all those, SERIES

(25:24):
i just would be hard pressed.

Speaker 6 (25:26):
To think that that could. Happen what he did In.

Speaker 5 (25:29):
Game five of The Bucks series to win, it what
he did in The Cleveland series to win, it what
he did against The, knicks and of course the game
won game winner Against Oklahoma. City so you, KNOW i
just think we were treated to something, really really. Special
i've got a chart THAT i do THAT i have
had since The pacers Acquired Tyrese, Halliburton and when.

Speaker 6 (25:52):
You look at clutch plays.

Speaker 5 (25:54):
And game winners and big time shots in fourth quarter and,
Overtimes greg it fills front and, back and SO i
think that's. Something i've just added all of those that
he added into the playoffs into this fantastic chart THAT
i know we won't use this, year but we'll use

(26:14):
in future years BECAUSE i think he'll be back and
in fine shape when he comes back for twenty six twenty.

Speaker 1 (26:21):
Seven, Again kristinary kind of have to join us. Again
pacers preseason starts tonight now, Again chris's debut call is
coming up On. Saturday Ian quinn will have the two
home games inning in the season tips off officially On
october the twenty. Third we're having this conversation. Earlier you,
know a person THAT i think we'll have to take
on a greater. ROLE a lot of guys have to do.

(26:42):
That but it's an opportunity For Benedict, matherin it's an
opportunity For Jaris. Walker let's start With benedict. Matherin how
does this season look different than last season For?

Speaker 5 (26:52):
Ben, well he started the year last year for the
most part as a. STARTER i, Mean Nie smith is in,
there and Then Nie smith got hurt and Then ben
was a. Starter but When aaron came, back they Moved
ben to the. Bench AND i think the one thing to.
Watch we know he can.

Speaker 6 (27:08):
SCORE i think they will look to.

Speaker 5 (27:11):
Him to be an on ball defender to take some
of the pressure Off Andrew nemhard Because Andrew nemhard will
now be running the team and they'll they'll need more
scoring from, him so they'll they'll look for a multi
Faceted benedict Mather and, again we know he can. Score
he's been a better than a sixteen point per game
score in his. Career BUT i think it's a chance

(27:32):
for him to take another step in the learning process
of what it takes to play pacer style. Basketball and you,
KNOW i thought in the fan jam On, sunday And
i've had the chance.

Speaker 6 (27:45):
To be at practice and watching.

Speaker 5 (27:46):
Scrimmage they're going to continue to play, Fast they're going
to continue to move the, ball they're going to continue
to play full court. Pressure SO i, think you, Know
benedict just again continuing to evolve will be important for.

Speaker 1 (27:59):
Him all, right let's get To Jeris. Walker AND i
don't think that we need to define things as, one, two,
three four or five. Anymore the one you kind of
have to in terms of your point guard of those
other four. Spots what role Does jeris kind of play
with this team that you're knowing there's more of an opportunity.

Speaker 5 (28:19):
For, Him, YEAH i, MEAN i THINK i think you
hit on, It. Greg when you look at The, pacers
they really play a lot of position with. Basketball i'm
gonna Throw Jeris. Walker i'm gonna Throw Johnny furfey into
the equation because at times in some of the, Scrimmages
i've Seen Johnny furfey play the two or the.

Speaker 6 (28:36):
THREE i guess he could play the.

Speaker 5 (28:39):
FOUR i Think Jerris walker he's one of the best
passers that this team, has and so sometimes he's going
to have the ball in his hands and you might
think he's a, two but he could be a three
or a. FOUR i think you could see him playing
a lot on that second, unit side by side With Obi.
Toppin sometimes The pacers like to go small ball and
top and plays the five and then. JERIFS i just

(29:02):
think that they have so many opportunities to use these
guys in different, roles and that's the way they assimilate
themselves To Rick carlisle's.

Speaker 1 (29:12):
System what sort of minutes do you Think furfy is
a regular rotation, piece at least in the start of the.

Speaker 5 (29:17):
SEASON i think he has a chance BECAUSE i Think
greg and we saw it in the. PLAYOFFS i Think
rick will not hesitate to use ten to twelve. PLAYERS
i really believe. That you, know it's funny because most,
people most coaches say that when they get to the, Postseason,
hey we're going to shorten the, rotation, right you use

(29:39):
nine or ten players in the regular, season and then
you get to the playoffs and you use seven or.
Eight pacers were consistently pushing ten even eleven last, year
AND i just think that's the greatest strength of this.
Team and as we all, know in, sports people copycat,
stuff AND i think a lot of teams have looked

(30:01):
at What indiana has done and are now, saying, hey
maybe we ought to do that.

Speaker 1 (30:05):
Too all, right let's talk about the big. Again if
it's positionless, basketball if there's three guys in the, middle
you got a point, guard you got a big are
the three can be. Fungible the other ones are kind of.
Different James, Wiseman Isaiah, Jackson Jay, Huff Tony. BRADLEY i
mean it sounds like a pitching, rotation and maybe it
is in How Rick carlisle wants to use. It is

(30:27):
there a guy of that group that is in front
of the others at this point or is that starting
five STILL tbd sixteen days out from the start of the.

Speaker 5 (30:37):
Season i'm going to guess that It's Isaiah. JACKSON i,
mean he's had most of the run early on with
the starting. Five BUT i, think to your, point in
a pitching, rotation what do they say now that it's
a bullpen. Game you, know sometimes it's not a, starter
but you'll see four or five bullpen pitchers over the

(30:58):
course of the.

Speaker 6 (30:58):
GAME i think you could.

Speaker 5 (30:59):
See and again we'll see if they keep, four because,
Basically Tony bradley And Delon, wright two, veterans are fighting
for that fifteenth position.

Speaker 6 (31:10):
Right as a wing or a.

Speaker 5 (31:11):
Guard bradley's a big who PLAYED i thought pretty well
late in the postseason for The. Pacers SO i think
it'll be. INTERESTING i think each and every, night based
on a matchup or, whatever could be a different guy
in that situation getting the bulk of the minutes at the.

Speaker 6 (31:27):
Five Jay huff is different Than Isaiah.

Speaker 5 (31:29):
Jackson Jay huff may be a little bit more Like Miles,
turner a stretch three who can shoot the, three a
stretch five who can shoot the, three.

Speaker 6 (31:39):
Dunker block.

Speaker 5 (31:40):
Shots Isaiah, jackson of, course has gotten. Stronger he's a little,
smaller but he is. Stronger and he said YESTERDAY i was.
Intrigued he, Said.

Speaker 6 (31:51):
I've really worked on my ball handling.

Speaker 5 (31:53):
BECAUSE i know as a five with The, PACERS i
need to be able to put the ball on the.
FLOOR i need to be in a dribble handoff. Situation
and SO i just think each and every night the
WAY i look at, it and we'll have to see
how the season. STARTS i think you can see a
different player each, night playing a different.

Speaker 1 (32:10):
ROLE i, know from an injury, Standpoint Cam jones is
dealing with, one but, frankly he's your third point guard
at best that more of a depth. Piece Ben shephard
was a guy that again has earned his, minutes and
people that thought that he's just kind of a one trick,
pony he's not been the. Case he's a bit banged
up right, now let's focus on him injury wise About,
ben what can you tell?

Speaker 6 (32:29):
Us, yeah he's GOT.

Speaker 5 (32:30):
I think a little bit of a calf, strain and
so they've definitely been managing his. Situation he's not done
a lot in training. Camp neither Has Cam. Jones and
that's WHY i, say as you look at tonight and
moving on into the, preseason based on the availability of
those two, GUYS i think it gives more minutes to
A Johnny furphy to A Jarris. Walker, Again Delon wright

(32:53):
has come in an eleven year. Veteran he played In
milwaukee and with The knicks last. Year in, fact he
was really good in the. Game The knicks beat The
pacers At gamebridge Field house last year in the. Playoffs
so he's a guy that gives The pacers another veteran
presence because you hope you're not injured throughout the, year
but it's a long.

Speaker 6 (33:14):
Season and SO i think the way.

Speaker 5 (33:18):
That these guys are utilized in the preseason is to
give them, familiarity give them minutes so that when, needed
when called, upon they're ready to.

Speaker 1 (33:26):
Go what filing to let you go? In, again this
is such a weird spot because of how wonderful everything
was up until the first half of the last game last,
year and so No Tyrese miles elects to move. On
so you're coming off the highest high The pacers have,
had and again there's still really good pieces. HERE i
think this is a playoff. Team my long winded way of, Saying,

(33:49):
chris what exactly are your expectations for this S pacers
team in twenty twenty, five twenty.

Speaker 2 (33:54):
Six, well as we.

Speaker 5 (33:55):
As we both, know this group loves being the, underdogs
and they were the underdogs they felt in every playoff
series last. Year and you go back to the playoffs
two years ago when they went to The Eastern conference.
Finals most publications and websites or whatever THAT i see
have The pacers anywhere from ninth to. Eleventh and this

(34:16):
is the Defending Eastern conference, champs and that means you
were number. One SO i think that they can be
better absolutely than they're. PROJECTED i THINK i HEARD kb
today early in the morning talk about thirty eight wins.

Speaker 2 (34:32):
Forty.

Speaker 5 (34:32):
FOUR i just think they can be a lot higher than.
That here's the, Thing, greg this, group and most of
them have been together for the last two, years have
played forty playoff games over the last two. Years that's
the most of any team in THE. Nba they have
twenty three playoff. Wins that to me says a lot

(34:52):
about the, group AND i think when it comes to
situations late, GAME i think you can rely a lot on.
That and it's not just Been Tyrese. HALIBERT i mean
we saw last Year Niece smith hit some unbelievable shots
In New, York Andrew, Nemhard Pascal.

Speaker 6 (35:08):
SIAKAM i, mean.

Speaker 5 (35:09):
These guys have done it at a high, level AND
i just think playing at that level in the postseason
the last two years will help them in the regular
season this.

Speaker 4 (35:18):
Year.

Speaker 1 (35:18):
Now the only THING i worry about is as you
put that sort of miles, on it leads to more.
Injuries but you're absolutely spot on from an experience standpoint
and a talent standpoint as. Well congrats on your number,
twenty my. FRIEND i hope there is a lot more
coming for you as always thanks to the. Time and
my guess is you were interested in that last QUESTION
i got before our. Conversation, yet no, Problem you're gonna

(35:41):
have a little monon bell chat on the, program.

Speaker 5 (35:43):
Right, Right, YEAH i mean It's wabash De. Paul now
it's funny Because Eddie, white you, know his, son pitched it.

Speaker 1 (35:52):
To paul and The University. Unianapolis absolutely he can.

Speaker 5 (35:57):
Play he and AGAIN i have You indie roots as you,
know yes you. DO i was the sid back there
in the. Eighties BUT i always like to tell them
this is no disrespect to To, paul because The paul football
has been tremendous To paul's a great. School really for,
me it came down To wabasher To paul forty some years,
ago AND i just had a better visit At wabash
and and love the love Coach patty and what they.

Speaker 6 (36:19):
Had BUT i always Tell.

Speaker 5 (36:21):
Eddie when he gives me grief about The paul Beating
wabash in the monon.

Speaker 6 (36:25):
Bell, yeah BUT i don't.

Speaker 5 (36:26):
Think any of those guys have, rings, RIGHT i was gonna, say,
yeah even even valuable reserves get. Rings SO i always
try to Shut eddie up when it comes to.

Speaker 1 (36:37):
That just move that ring to a specific, finger you'll
be just. Fine, christenery voice of the, pacers joining us. Now, congrats.
Buddy we'll do it again, soon all.

Speaker 2 (36:45):
Right Thanks, ray
