Speaker 1 (00:00):
Meantime on the Andy More Automotive Group potline from ESPN
and ESPN dot Com. Longtime no talk. D Rocco from
Duval joins US now talking AFC South AFC and in
particular Colts and Jags coming up on Sunday. Mike, how
are you?
Speaker 2 (00:15):
I'm doing well?
Speaker 1 (00:16):
How are you well? We're get a little schizophrenia going on,
little Jackel and Hyde like the start of seven and
one and now here in the last month not so good.
So I would call them more than just kind of
growing pains. Right, I'm far from being Kirk Cameron in
this scenario. There are some issues that are well below
the surface and some that are bubbling up right now
(00:38):
around here.
Speaker 2 (00:40):
Yeah, it was they were the story of the league. Yeah,
hot start, and.
Speaker 1 (00:45):
They may be at the end of it if they're
not careful.
Speaker 2 (00:48):
Yeah, they're the opposite of the Jags in a way,
because the Jags had the tougher part of their schedule
early and have already played the Niners and the Seahawks
and stuff and now Nfortunately for the Colts, they're getting
them at the end, which I think, if you could choose,
you'd rather have the tougher part at the end and
the earlier part or the easier part at the or
the tougher part at the beginning and the easier part
(01:10):
of the end.
Speaker 1 (01:11):
Yeah, So Jacksonville playing better in what capacity from what
you have seen here recently.
Speaker 2 (01:19):
Defensively, they have obviously the best rush defense in the NFL.
You know, they've sort of simplified things a little bit
defensively during the bye week and that has allowed them
to play a little bit better. But to me, the biggest,
the biggest reason this team is winning is if they've
(01:40):
won for their last five games, that includes two overtime
games on the road. But during that five game stretch,
they've had ten starters miss at least one game, and
most of them have missed multiple So the fact that
they're able to overcome that and they're able to get
some really good play from their depth guys is really,
honestly the reason why they've been able to kind of
(02:01):
pull back into this AFC South race, And you know
that's credit to Liam Cohen and the rest of the
coaching staff. Offensively, you know, they lose Travis Hunter, they
had Brian Thomas Junior down for two games, and they
bring in Jacobe Myers, and then a guy like Parker
Washington steps up, Ken Patrick steps up, and they've just
(02:22):
got guys making key plays here and there. Offensively, the
offensive line has been, you know, battered by injuries, but
they keep bringing guys in and they're able to step
in and play pretty well. So you know, it's it's
a real, like I said, testament to Liam Cohen and
the depth of this roster that they put together with
James Gladstone that they're able to kind of be in
(02:43):
the position they're in right now.
Speaker 1 (02:44):
Liam Cohen has he been everything that many people thought
he was going to be an your number one as
head coach there?
Speaker 2 (02:51):
Yeah, absolutely, he hasn't really been able to do. It's
it's fine the Trevor Lawrence switch, but that doesn't make
it unique. No one's really been able to find that,
to be honest with you, to get him to play
consistent football at a high level. He's gotten some high
level moments out of Trevor Lawrence, absolutely, but it just
(03:11):
hasn't been the consistent level that everybody kind of thought
it would be right away. And maybe that was unfair
expectation on Liam Cohen when they saw what Baker Mayfield
did in his one season with Liam Cohen. But you know,
Baker had been sort of playing at a pretty decent
level the last several years anyway before that, So that's
(03:32):
probably the only negative. But I've seen some improvement in
Trevor Lawrence over the last you know, three or four games,
and I know he had a four turnover game. But
Liam Cohen's thing to Trevor Lawrence has been, hey, man,
let it rip. Just just keep firing it in there,
keep chucking it, because I think Liam Cohen understands, Yeah,
there's probably gonna be some head scratchers in that area
(03:54):
there where you're going to have three or four throws
a game where you're just not sure what he was
looking at or why he made the throw. But you're
also going to get three or four throws that are
really really high level, and he's going to make a
couple of high level decisions and follow through with a
good throw. And you know he understands, Liam Cohen does it.
To get the good, you're going to have to put
up with the bad.
Speaker 3 (04:14):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (04:15):
Mikedroco of ESPN and ESPN dot COM's in Jacksonville. He's
on the Andy Mora at the Motive Group pileline of course.
Ten am, I'll get your started with the Colts pregame
huddle coming up on Sunday morning here on ninety three
to five, one oh seven five. The fan with the
Colts and the Jacksonville Jaguars common thread with the futility
of the Colts since twenty fourteen in Jacksonville has been
(04:37):
a lot of domination of whomever we're talking about. It's
been a laundry list of names along the defensive line
for the Jacksonville Jaguars getting to the Colts the quarterback
and causing mistakes. And that would I think be unfortunately
a bad omen for this Colts team right now that's
struggling on the offensive line and also struggling with a
(04:58):
lack of mobility with a an injury compromise quarterback at
this time. Would you agree?
Speaker 3 (05:04):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (05:04):
Absolutely, I mean that's something that you're the Jags. You
you know, Daniel Jones is a hell of an athlete.
I think we've seen that throughout his career and he
can make a lot of plays with his legs. But
if he's limited, that obviously, you know, is a huge advantage. Now.
The flip side of that is is I don't think
Trayvon Walker's playing again. He's going to miss I think
(05:25):
his third straight game with the knee injury. Defensive tackle
Eric Armstead, who was second on the team in sacks
and has really kind of gotten a good push, given
them pretty much the only pass rush up the middle.
He didn't play last week with a hand injury. Uh
tried to go with a club and it didn't work.
So I'm not sure whether he's going to play this
week either. So there's a lot of young guys that
(05:46):
are going to have to step in, and they did
a solid job the last couple of weeks, but you know,
it's not the same as having those front line rushers there.
So it's a lot of it's going to fall on
Josh heinz Allen, and he's been phenomen in all the
last two weeks. I mean, he was sitting on fifty
five career sacks, tied with Tony Brackens for the franchise record,
(06:07):
finally gets the record against the Chargers in Week eleven,
and then the last two weeks he's been absolutely on
fire since getting that record. Sixteen quarterback pressures, the most
in the league, three sacks, He's just been as good
as he was back in two thousand and what was
it twenty three when he had seventeen and a half sacks,
(06:28):
So a lot of it is going to have to
fall to him if those other guys can't play.
Speaker 1 (06:32):
Yeah, when you look at this, you mentioned the schedule
a little bit earlier too, I mean some quality wins
with the Jaguars, but most recently, you know, kind of
like the Colts. Would you agree that they took advantage
of a slight schedule? Was there a little bit of
fools gold into that seven and one start? Or did
you see a lot of legitimacy on both sides of
the football, certainly when they were healthy and look better
(06:54):
at that point in time for the Colts.
Speaker 2 (06:56):
Yeah, I mean, look, they beat Denver, which right now
looks like one of the two best teams in the
AFC one at Tennessee, something much better than the Jags.
Did you know beat Vegas? Destroyed Vegas. The Jags had
to hold on and win that game. Both teams beat
(07:17):
the Chargers, which is a little bit of a surprise.
I thought the Chargers were going to be better than that.
But look, Jonathan Taylor is an MVP candidate. No no
question about it. And until you know, getting banged up recently,
you could make the argument for Daniel Jones. But you know, look,
you play your schedule that's in front of you. And
believe me, I've covered this tie long enough to know
(07:38):
the Jags that just because you're supposed to win a
game doesn't mean you're gonna win a game. And you
know what the Colts did to take control of the
division early. Look, they were the biggest surprise in the league.
And I still think they're a really, really good team.
Like you said, the injuries have mounted a little bit
now probably what no Sauce Gardner this week. So you know,
(08:00):
this is a game that I think if Jonathan Taylor
can go off, then I think the Colts win. But
it's really interesting. I was looking up his numbers. I
was like, hey, what what is just curiously, what has
you know Taylor done in Jacksonville against the Jags? And
he's played four games, didn't play in twenty four, and
I was stunned. He had never rushed them more than
(08:22):
seventy seven yards in any of the four games that
he's played in Jacksonville and lost all four. So that
was very, very surprising. To me. So I think the
key is if the Jags can kind of limit him,
then they've got a chance to win this game. But
if they can't, then it's going to be a long
day here in the EverBank Stadium.
Speaker 1 (08:41):
Well, listen, he saw Houston just got to Daniel Jones
because they had a couple of guys in particular that
were capable individually, and Anderson, you know, certainly a hunter
of getting to Daniel Jones. But they also blitzed a
great deal. You saw Steve Spagnolo in the fourth quarter
when Kansas City was down eleven at home to the Colts,
they started blitzing, and you see obviously the lack of
(09:04):
mobility with Daniel Jones. So is theyre going to be
bringing everybody in Jacksonville defensively and see how the Colts
offensive line and the Colts offense handle the blitz once
again on Sunday? Is that the expectation scheme wise.
Speaker 2 (09:18):
They'd rather not have to blitz. But you know, they're
getting healthier in the secondary. They should have Eric Murray back,
Jordan Lewis's back, So that's a good deal for the Jags.
But you know, obviously, if they can make the Colts
one dimensional, especially into that you know, fourth quarter, and
turn it into a Daniel Jones has got to stand
back there and try and beat the Jags. Then I yeah,
(09:41):
they're going to get as much heat on them as
they can, but I think early in the game they
would prefer not to blitz if possible. But a lot
of that also depends on, like what I mentioned before,
are they getting there with Forrest Dennis Gardak giving them anything,
as Devin Lloyd when they ask him to rush, is
he giving them anything? What are the young guys bj
and Danny Strigau give them? You know, if they're not
(10:03):
able to get any pressure with the help of those guys,
then I would expect them to blitz more. But man,
I think if you could ask the Jags to drop
the perfect game plan, it would be limit Jonathan Taylor,
make the Colts one dimensional and take a ten point
lead into that fourth quarter and then turn the dogs
loose and then see what they can do there. Because again,
(10:26):
Daniel Jones has had a hell of a year, but
if he's limited mobility wise, that's not a good place
to be in now.
Speaker 1 (10:32):
It's not. And one of the things they haven't done
is and I think you have to look even more Mike.
To do it is to go downfield, and you know
Alex Pearce has been fantastic at doing that. And I
think the way that things are with Daniel Jones and
his injury and certainly the lack of protection of any
kind and certainly anything of length that and I know
(10:55):
you can't get down the field quick enough, but I
think you do have to start trying to take more
legitimate shots down the field, and certainly what this team has,
and I think in general terms, Shane Steiken looks to
me like he's tried to handle Daniel Jones in the
fashion in which we saw a healthy Daniel Jones in September,
not what he has right now, in a compromised injury
(11:17):
quarterback in Daniel Jones.
Speaker 2 (11:20):
Yeah, and here's the thing. The Jags are susceptible to
stuff down the field. Andrew wing Guard is a really
good safety in run support, and he's a good safety
in terms of being where he's supposed to be. But
he's not a man cover guy. He's not a guy
you really want running down the field with a wide receiver.
He's not the guy that you want on any of
(11:43):
the tight ends in the NFL because he's just not
able to keep up. So they've given up some plays
down the field, especially the tight ends, and that's an
area to watch as well. But look, if there's a
weakness to the Jags defense, it's definitely in the back
end of the secondary at safety. But Murray's coming back
and he may not be all worlds, but the one
(12:05):
thing they brought him here for, and the one thing
they've loved about him before he got hurt was the
communication and the ability to make sure that everybody is
where they're supposed to be. And he's made some plays
in the back end of that secondary as well. That's
a big get back for the Jags this week. But
you know, Pierce is what he's having like twenty one
(12:27):
yards of catch, which is phenomenal, So they can get
a couple of shots on the Jags down the field,
then you know that changes things for sure if they
can protect.
Speaker 1 (12:36):
Yeah, that makes funny. He's gone to somewhat of a
question Mark asked too how much you want to pay
him and how much you want to bring him back,
And now he's absolutely essential personnel to certainly bring back
for the longer term. In the Colts offensive grand scheme
of things. Mike Darroko of ESPN is on the Endy
More Automotive Group hotline. Before I'll let you go, I
also have to ask you about a team that is
(12:56):
also working within the AFC South and that is the
Houston Texas.
Speaker 2 (13:00):
And C. J.
Speaker 1 (13:00):
Strad was back. Wasn't stroud esque, but clearly they leaned
defensively a great deal and that here recently is getting
it done for Demico Ryans in that team.
Speaker 2 (13:13):
Yeah, look, play to your strengths and that's exactly what
the Houston Texans have on defense. That's it's their strengths.
And that's a team nobody wants to play right now, nobody.
And you definitely don't want to see that team in
the postseason. If you make the postseason, you don't want
to have to go to Houston. You don't want to
see those two edge rushers coming right at you. You
(13:36):
know this, I honestly, if you asked me and made
me sit here and say who I think really is
going to win the AFC South right now, I might
pick the Texans just because of that defense. I Mean,
it sounds ridiculous, but man, they're getting hot at the
right time. And when you can play defense in this
league like that and take it away and rush the
(13:58):
passer man, and you're a dangerous, dangerous team. And you
know that's the Colt's opponent in Week eighteen, right, I
can see that that game right there, being a winner
gets in, loser goes home type of thing, which you know,
great for the NFL. Not good if you're you know,
either one of those teams. But yeah, that team scares
the would scare the hell out of me in the
(14:20):
postseason if I have to go play that team.
Speaker 1 (14:22):
We always say Hindsight's twenty twenty in hindsight trade deadline deal.
And I have to say this all the time. I
was for the one non mentality of Sauce Gardner. But
now he has a calf injury, going to be a
DNP in practice today, won't play on Sunday. We'll see
the timetable for his return. As it said, he is
(14:44):
week to week. But when you look back on that
for two number ones at Ady Mitchell, was that a
good deal or does it still all come down to
you exactly what this team is able to do this year?
Speaker 2 (14:58):
No? I like the deal I did, because look if
you're gonna win in this league. You gotta be able
to deal with the quarterbacks in this league. And I
get it. I mean, I get Joe Burrow. They're probably
not gonna make the postseason. But I mean, you're gonna
have to deal with bon Nicks. You're gonna have to
deal with Drake May, You're gonna have to deal with
Josh Allen, maybe Lamar whoever comes out of the AFC
(15:19):
South most or assuming the AFC North most likely Mark.
You gotta be able to cover guys. He takes away
half of the field, and he takes away the best receiver.
I liked the deal a lot. I thought that actually
was probably the best trade acquisition in the entire league,
even you know, even better than what you know, what
the Cowboys did. So I thought it was a great deal.
(15:40):
I still think it's a great deal. And when he
gets healthy, he's every bit. You know, one of the
two or three best corners in the league.
Speaker 1 (15:46):
If you had to pick one of three teams, the Jags,
the Colts, or the Texans to win this division right now,
who would you pick?
Speaker 2 (15:55):
H Man I said just a few minutes ago, I
probably picked the Texans. But that's that's probably it's I
think it's either gonna be the Texans or the Colts.
I really do. I'm still not one hundred percent all
in on the Jags here. I think they've still got
some issues that they've got to deal with. But I
guess right now, if you made me choose, I'd probably
(16:17):
take the Texans, which doesn't really sound smart, but I
just I just think that defense is is so elite
and they've got they've got it roll. And as you
guys know, momentum is a funny things. You get momentum
at the end of the season and it can carry
you a long way.
Speaker 1 (16:33):
It's Mike Garaco of ESPN and ESPN dot Com. He'll
be there coming up on Sunday again, one o'clock to start.
We'll get you started at ten am here on the
Colts pregame huddle ninety three five and one oh seven
five Fan Mike is on the anymore Automatic Proof potline.
Pleasure to have you back. I'm sure we'll do it
again here at the end of the season. But thanks
for the knowledge and enjoy the game on Sunday, enjoy
(16:54):
the rest of the week.
Speaker 2 (16:55):
Thanks man, I appreciate you guys. Having me.
Speaker 1 (17:00):
A lot of you have mentioned you could give Joey
Jaws a run for his money on the Hermonachi wing
eating contest. Greg, thank you, Kevin Bowen? Could you do that?
Could you be involved in the Hermanachi wing eating contest
with Joey Jaws put on by the Almporium this weekend?
Speaker 4 (17:19):
Is that you boy? I love to be involved, but
lord knows I wouldn't be able to compete at all.
Speaker 3 (17:25):
You know Mark.
Speaker 4 (17:26):
Dyton and I about well, it was Colts Raiders.
Speaker 3 (17:31):
Honestly, it's probably the game that started the old spiral.
Speaker 4 (17:34):
I don't know if we were the reason for it
back in the Carson Wentz years, but we had a
shrip cocktail eating contest pre game with Jimmy Mattdog made
us him seeing it in Touchdowntown before Colts and Raiders.
Jake Querry fake COVID that week to get out of
the shrimp eating contest, so he was out. I texted
(17:58):
Joey Jaws Joey Chestnutt and asked him for some advice.
He told me to drink milk, so I stopped at
a gas station on the way down, got a glass
or a bottle of milk. Tripped that up on stage
in May. I think Dog made fun of me as
he should have for that, and dyked and beat me.
I want to say, like nine to six, eight to eight,
eight to six, maybe in a one minute shrimpingting contest.
Speaker 1 (18:21):
Man, did you have any how should I put this
plumbing issues? Afterwards?
Speaker 4 (18:30):
I definitely spent time in that last stall. You know,
that last doll up there in the Lucas Oil Stadium.
Speaker 1 (18:35):
Oh no, you can't do it up.
Speaker 2 (18:37):
You can't.
Speaker 1 (18:37):
You had to go to the game. You got to, Hey,
you can. Hey, listen, there's zero way Joey Jaws is
going to go hang out after this event on on Saturday.
I guess it is right. I mean, you got to
be playing a home game on this This can't be
an away game you're playing.
Speaker 4 (18:53):
But I think Joey Jaws based off his appetite.
Speaker 3 (18:56):
He's had some neutral fields a lot in his day,
so I.
Speaker 1 (18:59):
Think he is zero away.
Speaker 4 (19:01):
Yeah, he is not. You a's home field, They're nothing here.
He's uh, he builds the resume on the road.
Speaker 1 (19:07):
I'll tell you what there's really You just mentioned it
too that one of the worst stalls in the history
of stalls is the press box at Lucas Oil Stadium
back there though, that one, that thing gets absolutely abused
and uh.
Speaker 4 (19:20):
And you get some nervous energy from some of the
home personnel staff or the visiting GMS.
Speaker 3 (19:27):
And staff as well.
Speaker 4 (19:29):
So, yeah, nervy, nervy moments in that Lucas oilis state
press sock. I mean, hell, now I think about you.
You probably weren't touchdowntown in that day. Colt Raiders.
Speaker 3 (19:36):
It was.
Speaker 4 (19:37):
It was this time of year, it was late December,
and and that was a bad, bad loss. When they
lost in Jacksonville the next week, and the.
Speaker 3 (19:45):
Rest is history.
Speaker 1 (19:46):
Carson Wentz was almost not allowed to ride on the
plane home from Jacksonville. Yeah, I remember that.
Speaker 2 (19:52):
You know.
Speaker 1 (19:52):
It's funny speaking of stalls at stadiums once upon a
time at the the RCA Dome, so, I mean, I
don't know if you were ever in there in the
press box. I'm back there in the bathroom, and man,
somebody is just working over the stall. I mean there
is heavy duty grunting and all that going. I mean
there's some noise making going on, and I thought, what
(20:15):
in the heck is going on here? And then there
seemed to be at the end of it, a sense
of relief and I just kind of was curious who
was making all this racket. And the door opened and
it was Bill Pollion.
Speaker 3 (20:34):
And just to be clear, this wasn't some he and
she and racket.
Speaker 1 (20:38):
No no, no, yeah, And I don't think. I don't
think over his time in Indy that Craig Kelly ever
took as much abuse from Bill as that that toilet
and backstall did that day.
Speaker 3 (20:53):
And that's saying something.
Speaker 4 (20:53):
Craig Kelly who got me my first ever job out
of college at to Greg Kelly, So thank you for that.
It is kind of wild that, you know, I've always
felt this way, you know, especially like in the NBA
during playoff games. But you know I looked down and
like Nick Casario, the Texans GM is like a right
bias in the press box. I mean how you've experienced
(21:14):
it with homeboy for the Ravens there.
Speaker 3 (21:18):
Yeah, the Costa is that.
Speaker 1 (21:20):
His name, Eric da Costa is an absolute nut.
Speaker 2 (21:25):
Nuts.
Speaker 4 (21:25):
Speaking of nuts, you and I have gotten into this
before about Schetter. Did you see Rappaport today? I had
to get after him.
Speaker 1 (21:31):
I did see that. That was well done out of you.
So yeah, he kind of. It took something like forty
eight hours later that you had posted well done.
Speaker 3 (21:39):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (21:40):
I'm not usually media petty guy to social media, and
I was fired up this morning. I think I had
just rant about Notre Dame and I was, you know,
I was starting to sweat. James Boy goes, oh, boy,
do you see what Rappaport just just tweet it? And
he yeah, he basically had you know, according to sources,
me and Sero sauce Gardner when not going into the reserve.
Speaker 2 (22:02):
And I'm thinking of.
Speaker 4 (22:03):
Myself, dude, change psyching. I asked, had a change second
on Monday? And he answered that very question and told
us forty eight hours ago he wasn't going injured reserve.
So I wasn't having any of that.
Speaker 1 (22:13):
See that's that's so. Did they not check with everybody
that covers the team or I mean did they did?
They say they tried to make it an exclusive out
of it? How did that? How did that go? Okay? Yeah,
I mean we've got breaking news that nobody else lost, right, And.
Speaker 4 (22:33):
Again, my thing is, I get it is hard to
keep a pull some thirty two teams, but the sauce
Gardner news was some of the bigger ones on Sunday
and we at all. I mean, I'm not saying I'm
sitting here acting. I asked Styking a question the press converce,
not like I broke it, you know, schpter with Andrew
Luck sort of sort of retirement here. So so, yeah, it.
Speaker 1 (22:54):
Was well done out of you. Yeah I dig I
dig an sweet grudge and some pettiness. Yesterday I was
butt hurt for the better part of two hours and
forty five minutes.
Speaker 4 (23:10):
Nothing says we're you know, old and belonging sports media
than that, right.
Speaker 1 (23:15):
I just think some days, if I want to be
butt hurt, damn straight, I'm gonna be butt hurt. I'm
not going to be mean spirited in my butt hurtedness,
but I may not hide it completely. I may have
to show it a little bit. I think you have
to sometimes express that that butt hurt emotion and you
have to get it out a little bit. So I did,
and you did this morning too.
Speaker 2 (23:33):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (23:34):
Yeah, I think at times it's healthy to release.
Speaker 1 (23:38):
Yes, I felt really really good about that. So I
mentioned this a little bit earlier. I've said this all along.
There's only one good committee, and we know the guys
all know what that is. It's the iddy bitty committee
that we know very well from our youth and growing up.
One good committee. All other committees are bad and normally
(24:00):
it is, you know, kind of a half assed committee.
As I mentioned a little bit earlier, is this committee.
You're irish guy, We know that to be true. Do
you think that they get bounced if things get chaotic
coming up this weekend?
Speaker 3 (24:15):
Yeah? I do.
Speaker 4 (24:16):
And again my disagreement from last night was hearing the
committee chair, the SEC committee chair, if I should mention
that his rationale for putting Alabama above Notre Dame. You know,
you go back to last week. Notre Dame goes out
to Stanford, they're up. I mean how they covered the
spread at halftime, you know, forty two to six going
in the four court days rolled. So they did exactly
(24:38):
what they should have done in beating Stanford. Alabama plays Auburn,
that is a one win SEC.
Speaker 3 (24:45):
Alburn with an interim head coach.
Speaker 4 (24:47):
If anybody watched that game, Alburn was god awful and
yet still had a chance to win the game at
the end. And the committee chair tell me last night
that that win over Auburn was a in the committee's eyes,
to push them ahead of Notre Dame. And let me
remind you Auburns one SEC win is Arkansas by one score.
(25:11):
Notre Dame beat Arkansas by forty at Arkansas earlier this year.
So you know, again you know the Miami debate. Fine,
I can hear that out if you want to say, whatever,
Alabama beat Georgia, but that being the reason for why
Alabama goes ahead of Notre Dame and made absolutely zero
sense to me. And I'm not usually one that plays
(25:33):
the biased conspiracy card. But you know, in the new
committee chair is an secad and he's looking at Alabama
in the SEC title game and he needs to get
them some buffer in case they lose to Georgia. You know,
where there's smoke, there's fire, and I believe there is
someone with the with the old committee right now.
Speaker 1 (25:51):
Yeah, it should be interesting. So depending upon what happens
to IU, win, lose, whatever here, Yeah, how far possible
could you see them fall with the loss? We see
what could take place obviously with a win. How far
might they fall with a loss?
Speaker 4 (26:09):
Oh, I think there's no chance they fall out of
the buye. I mean I think they're either the what's
a loss. I think they either stay it too if
it's a competitive loss, especially if Georgia.
Speaker 3 (26:19):
Were to lose SC title game.
Speaker 4 (26:21):
Uh, maybe they go to three, maybe they go to four,
which you know, again those first four get to buy.
But as we've talked about, John, I mean to me, one, two, three, four,
there's not that big of a difference. I mean, when
you look at the bracket last year, the one seed
got the worst, you off, that being Oregon having to
play Ohio State in round two. And you know where
these sites are located. This is not you know, Purdue
for example, in the NCAA men's basketball tournament. You know
(26:44):
there's been recent years and this.
Speaker 3 (26:46):
Year the final four in Indies.
Speaker 4 (26:48):
That's probably not a great example, but you know when
Indy has been a regional site before.
Speaker 3 (26:52):
You know, obviously if you're a.
Speaker 4 (26:53):
Big ten team, you want to get slotted into Indy. Well,
in the college football playoffs, the sites are you know,
Pasadena and Dallas and uh, you know Atlanta and Miami,
I mean those maybe New Orleans, like I mean, all
these are just the you're getting on the plane no
matter what.
Speaker 3 (27:14):
Nothing within driving distance.
Speaker 4 (27:15):
So you know, I don't think there's that thick of
a difference between that and honestly, you look at I
used Draw last night. You know they would face the
winner of A and M, Notre dame. I mean, I
think that's Those are two teams that I think a
lot of people would put up there as teams that
could get on the run, and that would be I
used Draw as the two. I almost look at you
and say, hey, I'd probably rather be the three of
(27:38):
the four.
Speaker 1 (27:39):
I don't know. I don't never know what to expect
out of A and M.
Speaker 3 (27:43):
No, No, A and M for sure.
Speaker 4 (27:45):
Yeah, and so again, I just don't think you know,
from a historical perspective standpoint, obviously there is a ton
at stake for Indian on Saturday, but from a playoff
point of view, very.
Speaker 3 (28:00):
In all honesty.
Speaker 1 (28:02):
So Kevin Bowen the Fan Morning show that's seven until
ten am Monday through Friday, along with Jeff Rickard and
James Boyd. Kevin is on the Andy Moore Automotive Group hootline.
I should mention this to you because you'll understand this
chair and this chair is going to be our mascot
for the new building here. I'm taking it with us,
this half aass chair right here, that's all. Maybe the
(28:23):
worst chair of all time right here, I'm going to
take it with us as our mascot for the new building.
Speaker 4 (28:28):
We had Eddy Whiten studio a few weeks ago, and
I think he sat down in the chair and another
screw popped out of it. So yeah, that chair I
think sums up our final Swan song.
Speaker 2 (28:39):
Here.
Speaker 3 (28:39):
I went over the new building yesterday, talk a lot,
a nice studio. It's and we got a window again, Yeah.
Speaker 1 (28:46):
We do window. This chair though, does Rickard sit in
this chair?
Speaker 3 (28:52):
Is it the black one or is it the red one?
Speaker 1 (28:54):
Now it's the red one that's kind of half fast
and sideways and stuff right here. I mean it's it
is the worst chair. The only thing I'd be worse
if there was a big metal spike right in the
center of the seat.
Speaker 4 (29:05):
Nah, Jeff Uge just brings his shwin to the fourth floor.
Speaker 3 (29:08):
Does's on that?
Speaker 2 (29:10):
You know?
Speaker 3 (29:10):
He just wants to make sure that he's good to go.
Speaker 1 (29:12):
Does he sit on a banana seat in here on
his hoffey? Please bring that up tomorrow. That makes him happy.
That always makes him really happy. So Kevin Bowen's with
so Hey, the good news, I guess is and you
know this kicker very well, Blake Groupie, former Notre Dame
(29:34):
fighting or Irish and if for nothing else, he gets
you back into the category of nugget dudes. He's a
nugget of a kicker, isn't He kind of goes along
the line of the the bar Brothers and Rafael sept
Inn and Tony Franklin and Jim Breach and and girl
your primi in all the nugget, the diminutive, if you will,
kickers of the past, that's him.
Speaker 4 (29:56):
Five.
Speaker 1 (29:59):
That's a nugget.
Speaker 3 (30:00):
That's what you're looking at with Blake Groopie there. Yeah,
so kicked an utter name for a year.
Speaker 4 (30:04):
That's the connection to Brian Mason, Colt special teams coordinator.
And you know, again at.
Speaker 3 (30:09):
This point of the ear, everybody's got war.
Speaker 4 (30:12):
You know, it's late night at the homecoming dance, and
you know Kevin Bowen doesn't have much to pick from there,
So welcome to.
Speaker 3 (30:18):
Where you're at right now. It's the Colts kicker situation.
Speaker 4 (30:20):
They've never done this, They've never had a season in
history of their franchise where they've had three kickers in
a in a season.
Speaker 3 (30:28):
But that's the reality of where they're at right now.
Speaker 4 (30:30):
So yeah, it's less than ideal and we'll see. I
mean his history would indicate been very steady on extra
points in his career, so you.
Speaker 3 (30:40):
Know that is a positive.
Speaker 4 (30:42):
I would say from a leg strength standpoint, maybe.
Speaker 3 (30:45):
A little bit more than Michael.
Speaker 4 (30:46):
Badgeley, I don't think much, to be honest with you,
maybe a little bit more there, But you can't.
Speaker 3 (30:51):
Ignore why the thing's just got him. And I mean
he missed.
Speaker 4 (30:54):
Five field goals this year between thirty and fifty yards,
so that obviously he's less than ideal. But you know,
again three minus extra points in seven games is just
an excusable, as Brian Mason said yesterday, And you had
to make a move because I think you also start
thinking about psychologically, like where it is Badgely at could
that impact.
Speaker 3 (31:14):
You know, other games or other kicks.
Speaker 4 (31:17):
So yeah, it'll be Blake groupie coming up all five
to seven of them on Sunday.
Speaker 1 (31:22):
Not since twenty fourteen have the Colts obviously won down there.
Not since twenty fourteen have they won the AFC South
and all. This is part of a very interesting eight
and four dynamic, you know, a part of the recent
fade we have seen from this team, and I think, honestly,
Kevitch the largest part both sides of the line, but
(31:45):
especially from the center to the right side of the
offensive line has been horrific. And then you, I think,
couple that with Shane Steichen and for whatever reason, a
lot of the playbook and I guess that's the playbook
in general, but a lot of the playbook that he
runs for a healthy September Daniel Jones, not the I
look like the mobility of Joe flecto Daniel Jones that
(32:07):
he is right now, that's all very odd to me.
Speaker 4 (32:10):
Well, when you talk about Jacksonville and the streak and
and and the names have changed and the fates have changed,
but the constant seemingly every year down there, their D
line whips hero line. And whether it's I mean, you
go back to Clays Campbell, hell, you go back to
Yanni kin Gockway in a Jaguars uniform, you know, Josh Allen.
I mean, their D line has been a dominant unit
(32:32):
to get your offensive line and against the good Colts
offensive line, so uh, you know that to me continues
to be a big topic. They're they're a little banged
up down there both sides of the football coming up
on Sunday, and so much of it I think just
starts there for you because you know, you obviously pointed
to the offensive line. But if this pass rush from
the edge continues to be so so quiet and was
(32:53):
again on Sunday, and I think that's a huge as
especially without Sauce Gardner here for whatever a couple of
games again you need to do and I don't think
Mooney Ward unfortunately is playing at the level that he
showed earlier in the season. You need a little bit
more out of that group. So I think I continue
to be a big story line for something.
Speaker 1 (33:14):
We will see DeForest Buckner again, we will see Sauce
Gardner again.
Speaker 2 (33:20):
Are you.
Speaker 1 (33:23):
Sure on both?
Speaker 2 (33:27):
No?
Speaker 4 (33:28):
But I mean that it does seem like that is
the thought. You know, Gardner, They've probably been a little
bit more in a timeline thrown it out there basically,
you know, to go back, I guess to what Stikeen
said on Monday. Okay, Sauce won't go on injured reserve.
Speaker 3 (33:44):
Okay, what does that mean? That means you'll play within
the next four weeks.
Speaker 4 (33:47):
So you got five games left. If you look at
the schedule, They're all important. The biggest ones are the
three AFC South games, So you're obviously at Jacksonville on Sunday,
then you play Seattle in San Francisco.
Speaker 3 (33:59):
Back to that game.
Speaker 4 (34:00):
They matter, but again they don't matter as much as
the ANFC South games. You face Jacksonville again, so you
will see them twice in the month of December. You'll
see them again here on like the twenty ninth. I
want to say it is that's the game that I'm
circling with Sauce. You know, can he get back because
that's a short week, going from San Francisco on a
Monday night to Jacksonville on a Sunday. Can you get
(34:21):
him back for that? You know, Buckner, it's a little
bit more. We still don't have clarity. Probably a question
we should ask Tichon on Friday, but yeah, knowing him,
you know, and he's traveling to pay them off for
stem Cell, and you know he's been in the buildings
on the sidelines of Kansas City. I mean, you don't
go to all those degrees. I mean, if I had
to rank them to me, it'd be Gardner Buckner Richardson.
(34:45):
In terms of the three guys right now, I get
asked about the most injury wise and their likeliness to return,
how quickly they could get back, those sorts of things.
Speaker 1 (34:54):
So if Blake Groupie was in a nineties boy band,
would it be ninety eight Degrees in Sync or Backstreet Boys?
Speaker 3 (35:03):
Oh, he'd be in the band.
Speaker 2 (35:05):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (35:05):
He looks from the side view, by the way, from
the side view, casey value, he looks like he's a
defensive end compared to Groupie in this this locker room
side view. I think Miranda has this from thirteen, but
Groupie definitely looks like he is of boy band origin
from the nineteen nineties, with the hat on backwards and everything.
Speaker 4 (35:25):
Growing up, there was a show called Making the Band.
I want to say it was on like ABC. I
kind of forget for some reason, Like O Town is
popping in my head of it. Yeah, yeah, he would
have been in Otown. Shout out to.
Speaker 1 (35:39):
Is that Acrombia Abercrombia. I liked Abercrombie, he didn't. Fitch
Chinese thing makes me sick? Is that O Town That
I don't know that I'm just making up stuff right now.
Speaker 3 (35:52):
I think, Yeah, that's the hell of a poll by you. Yeah,
I sweet out a picture.
Speaker 4 (35:57):
Of Groupie earlier today and and the which TV.
Speaker 3 (36:03):
Digital guy Josh is.
Speaker 4 (36:04):
In the picture, and somebody you know cropped the picture
down and said, you could literally exchange these two for
each other and we'd have no idea who Blake Groupy
is and who's the guy working for which TV? And
that that that gave me a pretty good chuckle.
Speaker 3 (36:17):
So yeah, I don't think.
Speaker 4 (36:19):
Blake Groupy has been misidentified for NFL player many times
in his life. But put the ball through the uprights
and Tom, they will carry you back from Jacksonville. You
imagine if Blake group he makes a game winning field
goal on Sunday and the Colts end of the street,
they will grow over Stewer or carry him from Jacksonville
to Indianapolis.
Speaker 1 (36:36):
That's all that matters really, I mean the boy band stuff,
the nugget of a kicker or all that, and really,
you know, being yting for and you know what I've
I've talked about because it's funny. I have a promo
that's running right now because I kind of got it
back and forth or somebody that says, well, you know,
we're talking about a rebuild, keV, what the hell you're
rebuilding with, is it? Yeah? I mean what I mean
(36:57):
you may get rid of obviously some you know in
you know, the front office coaching, maybe they take the
fall for this. But what do you possibly rebuild with
if this thing continues to get flushed down the stool
as it has the past week or so, a month
or so, I should say in this case.
Speaker 4 (37:15):
Yeah, it's yeah. I could not agree more on that.
Speaker 2 (37:19):
I was.
Speaker 4 (37:20):
We had a question today of like, for some reason
Daniel Jones wasn't brought back, which you know, again, I
see no reason why he wouldn't be, considering all the
factors and the lack of first round picks, et cetera,
et cetera. But just to play out of the hypothetical,
it is kind of wild if you were to even
ponder that thaw it like if this word detail spin
and you had to blow it up.
Speaker 3 (37:40):
You know.
Speaker 4 (37:40):
Again, when a new regime comes in, no one's safe,
you know. I think we're used to that and any
professional sport, particularly the NFL.
Speaker 3 (37:45):
But yeah, I mean, would you literally.
Speaker 4 (37:48):
Like tell Anthony Richardson, hey about that fourth year, why
don't you just play here and then and then we'll
try that. But then it's like, oh, wait, twenty seven draft,
you still don't have your first round picks. So yeah,
you know, the more I've gone back and I'm trying
not to be hindsight twenty twenty looking at the Sauce
Gardner trade, but man, that was a significant trade.
Speaker 3 (38:09):
Significant trade.
Speaker 4 (38:10):
I mean, you got to have all your ducks in
a row quarterback wise, future wise, gotta work do that
got and you gotta have short term results, and right
now the short term results, you know, aren't there for you.
So we'll see how the final month plays out, one
of the biggest months this franchise.
Speaker 3 (38:27):
Had and quite some time.
Speaker 1 (38:29):
When's the last time? And I got to I know,
I gotta go here, James with Kevin Bowen, when's the
last time that you saw a behind the back pocket
pass in the lane like Brayden Smith last night? But further,
when's the last time you saw it twice in like
the last three games as he has done. He did
it once in the Bahamas and then did it last
night against Rutgers. That is, to me, one of the
sweetest passes and looks that I have seen. And this
(38:51):
dude's done it twice in like three games.
Speaker 4 (38:54):
His pocket passing specifically, I mean like he just it
is a hell. Can he play quarterback honestly for the
cold with his uh his actors here honestly, the only
guy that I think could probably throw that is the
guy inside of a Gamberg shield that.
Speaker 3 (39:05):
Was tonight in uh yeah in the old Joker there.
Speaker 4 (39:07):
So yeah, just uh he's a special special talent. And
uh they handled business quite well last night and now
they got a big one. I assume tyres Aaliburn behind
the visiting bench.
Speaker 3 (39:17):
Up there on Saturday. Yes, Purdue and Iowa State man.
Speaker 1 (39:21):
Big Saturday for New Iowa State, AU Louisville IYU, Ohio
State one. One hell of a Saturday, no doubt. Kevin
Bowen from the Fan morning so seven until ten am
here weekday mornings ninety three five and one oh seven
five the Fan and Kem's on the Andy Moore Automatic
Group Hotline got a little pettiness out of the way
this morning with Ian Rappaport of the NFL Network. Job
(39:41):
well done, man, I'm always you can join, you can
join join my butt hurt club.
Speaker 3 (39:47):
Okay, happy to be a part of it.
Speaker 1 (39:50):
Sign you up here soon. Thanks, keV.
Speaker 3 (39:52):
See down
