Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hey, joining us now the Andy Moore Automotive Group Hotline, the
Colts Safety Nick Cross is at Grand Park. Okay, Nick,
thank you for the time. How are you.
Speaker 2 (00:08):
I'm good, man, I'm good. Happy to be out here.
Speaker 1 (00:10):
Yeah, well, I'm having I'm happy for you to be
on the show with us, and I'm happy for you
to be back. And I kind of want to play
off of that. I was thinking about you last night
when I found out you were going to come on
the show. You had a really nice year a year ago,
and I'm curious how you are as far as confidence
level and feeling going into this camp compared to the
way that you win when in this time a year ago.
(00:32):
What's the difference?
Speaker 2 (00:34):
I mean, I think the man says the same. You know,
you go out there, practice hard every day, you know,
tend to make the team. You know, at the end
of the day, nothing is guaranteed. You got to go
out there and earn it every single day. Last year,
with last year, this year, the whole new year and
new year, new experiences, new opportunity. So I just treated
as such.
Speaker 1 (00:52):
Did you have a Sometimes people tell me athletically speaking,
whether it's football, basketball, whatever, that you know the knowledge
that you gather with experience. There's just kind of a
switch that's flipped, so to speak. Did you did you
hit that a year ago? Is there a moment to
where you thought, yeah, you know what, I can play
and play consistently at a high level.
Speaker 2 (01:11):
Here, I think it was just showing myself every week
that you know, I can go out there and play
the high level. You know, every week with a new week,
you know, new new opponent, you know new challenges. So
you know, at the end of the day, just going
out there and adapt into the different opponents, adapt into
the different you know, game plans we had and going
out there and still playing the high level every week.
You know, the confidence grew to be able.
Speaker 1 (01:30):
To go out there and do it the week after Man,
you cannot sidestep at all confidence, can you? That is
such a motivating and a juicing fact, or just that
confidence you get for playing well and I mean consistently
like you did a year ago, Nick, week after week?
Speaker 2 (01:46):
Can you? Yeah, I mean confidence. You know, at the
end of the day, it's about preparation. Your nig gotta
go in. You gotta prepar You got to prepare the
right way. You gotta go out there. You gotta you know,
put what you you you think about in the practice
and then practice trans transfer over to the game. And
you know, then when you have the success, you know,
it's from the hard work. So just trying to work
hard and you know, transfer everything from you know, the
(02:08):
film room to the practice field to the game field.
Speaker 1 (02:10):
Here's Nick Cross as the Colts. They're in camp at
Grant Park and Westfield. He's kind of enough to join
us on the Andy More Automotive Group hootline. So a
transition from one decordinator to another. Now what's that been like?
And I guess we'll start right now with the book
in terminology part of this. How does that work for
you to this point?
Speaker 2 (02:31):
I mean the end of the day. You know, coach
lou is a great coach, you know, great guy, you know,
great teacher, someone who you know, we spend a lot
of time together, have a lot of conversations, and you know,
it's just you know, at the end of the day,
you know, defensive defense, you know, terminology is different. You know,
philosophy might be a little different. So just learning where
he's coming from in Rohymen reads bes why he does
things and you know, trying to play it in his
(02:52):
scheme as best as I can.
Speaker 1 (02:53):
Hey, Nick, can you let us in a little bit
on on what philosophically speaking, as you brought up is
different from how you were playing. Let's just say this
time of year ago compared to lou Anarumo and where
it's going now and you're number one with him as
your defensive coordinator.
Speaker 2 (03:09):
Uh, it's just you know, a lot, a lot, a
lot of things, a lot of things that you know
we might not have done last year. You know, still
incorporating some things, but you know, at the end of
the day, it's exciting to go and you know, learn
the new defense and and be a part of some
uh something great.
Speaker 1 (03:25):
It feels like that with him in Cincinnati. And this
could be completely inaccurate, and you could talk about it
a little bit. It feels like there's more of an
emphasis on what you guys do in the secondary with
this defensive philosophy. Is that true? Is there is there
truth to that what we've seen in Cincinnati and the
transition here to Indy.
Speaker 2 (03:44):
I mean yeah, I mean I think you know, of course,
lous a dB guy at heart. You know you've been
coaching dbs for for a long time, you know. So
you know, I think that that's where you know, his
heart is. And you know, it's good to have somebody
like that, you know, as the leader of the defense,
as the coordinator. So and you I'm sure he's going
to bring it over, you know, here to an extent
(04:06):
and you know, building an expand on it.
Speaker 1 (04:09):
Uh, Nick Cross kind of enough to join us on
the Andy Moore Automotive Group potline. So what's you work
on this off season here in preparation for the season
where you are right now? Anything in particular, anything new?
Or is it the same type of routine you've always
gone through?
Speaker 2 (04:25):
I mean pretty much the Saints you know gets shown
fast and more explosive. You know, played a lot of
golf and uh, you know, just trying to make sure
to spend my time, you know, getting my body ready
for the season ahead as well as you know, take
some time to relax and enjoy myself.
Speaker 1 (04:41):
Are you a hoops guy at all?
Speaker 2 (04:44):
Just a little bit, you know what I'm saying. You know,
play a little hoops, you know, play a little golf
and just you know, at the end of the day,
just enjoy my time, be able to chill out before
we get we get this show on the road.
Speaker 1 (04:54):
Well, let's uh, let's go over this golf game a
little bit. Are we improving with the golf game like
we have been improving obviously defensively with the colts.
Speaker 2 (05:03):
Yeah, I mean, like I said, everything takes reps, Everything
takes yes time to be able to go out there
and do you gotta go out You gotta take your lessons,
you gotta go to the driving rams and you got
to go, you know, play the course. And at the
end of the day, you know, the swing gets better
every single time. You know, the direction of which the
ball is being hit gets better every time. And at
the end of the day, it's about, you know, consistently
taking those reps and going out there and applying what
(05:24):
you learn in the lesson to what you do out
on the course. So still a long ways to go though,
but you know, were making now where there slowly but surely.
Speaker 1 (05:33):
You got a favorite course around here?
Speaker 2 (05:37):
Oh do I have a favorite? I probably sayd Crooked
Stick out here. Yeah, I'm Crooked Stick really nice. I
played there a couple of times, and you know it's
a great course to go out there and play.
Speaker 1 (05:47):
Do you allow do you allow yourself to take a
mulligan if you hit a bad shot.
Speaker 2 (05:51):
Oh yeah, yeah, I mean one, two, three, as many
as I need, I think, you know, it's what I'll
usually try to do. So however many I need, is there?
You go?
Speaker 1 (06:02):
It's a Nick Cross on the Eddy More Automotive Group potline.
Hey did you watch the Pacers in the postseason at all?
Speaker 2 (06:07):
Nick? Oh? Yeah, definitely.
Speaker 1 (06:09):
What you think about that? And I want you to
maybe talk a little bit about that in terms of man,
you saw the excitement level and what the fan base
can do around here and obviously, you know that's a
level of juice that you would love to see with
your football team this season. What was it like watching
the Pacers, you know, knowing this is the market and
watching the fan base respond to their success this offseason.
Speaker 2 (06:30):
That's good, you know. You see Andy, you know, embrace
their air sports teams, embrace the success of their sports teams,
and you know, at the end of the day, definitely
exciting and promising to see what we can do and
they'll come to fall. You know, Pacers games were electric,
they were exciting, and you know, I'm not the football
game is going to be just like that.
Speaker 1 (06:47):
He has Nick cross with us. Before I'll let you go.
You have a couple of new teammates in the secondary.
One is camp bond them. Your relationship with him so far?
Hows that gone?
Speaker 2 (06:59):
I been good? You know what I'm saying. You know,
Cam is a great guy, great leader, you know, someone
who knows what he's doing. Played a lot of football
when he was in Minnesota. So just being able to
go out there and you know, play with him, it's
been fun.
Speaker 1 (07:12):
And I know I've talked to him both. In closing here, Nick,
give me your impression on Mooney. Mooney's a dude right there.
Let me tell you.
Speaker 2 (07:21):
Yeah, I mean, Mooney's good. You know what I'm saying.
You know, I remember when I was in college. I
went down to bat Movies and worked out with him
one time back when he was in Kentas City. And
you know, a great guy, you know, great knowledge of
the game, smart player, and you know, can make plays,
can make plays and run with any receiver and guard
any receiver. So it's excited to watch him play, exciting
to have him on the team.
Speaker 1 (07:41):
Yeah, you know Nick too. One thing he told me
that I think is so important with what you guys do.
It's not only making the plays, but let's just say,
for example, you don't it's forgetting about what you don't
do to make sure you don't make that mistake and
you make the next one. I think that's one thing
that stuck out to me as far as his level
of confidence he has in playing this game, and how
(08:02):
important forgetting about that moment, especially if it's bad and
moving on.
Speaker 2 (08:07):
Yeah, I mean the end of the day, any mistake
you make, whether it's on a field or in life,
you know what I'm saying, You got to address it,
take accountability, and move forward. You know, you can't do
on the past. You know, the past of the past
can't change anything about. All you can do is go
forward and move forward and make better decisions, make better
and you know, make sure that you learn from us.
So next time that opportunity comes around. You made the play.
Speaker 1 (08:28):
Hey man, stay hydrated. It's going to be hot out
there the next couple of days. All right, Keep hydrated,
and the best of luck to you during camp and
keep going at it as well as you did a
year ago. It was fun to watch you evolve in
that secondary. Keep doing what you're doing, and we'll talk
again soon, Nick, Thank.
Speaker 2 (08:45):
You, Yes, sir, appreciate you for having me.
Speaker 1 (08:48):
You got that Nick Cross right there are the any
Moore Automotive Group Hotline. I really appreciate the Colts mat
conti and hating the gang for doing that. Normally, I
don't get the opportunity until the night practice is to
actually get out there and do the live face to
face one on one interviews. But it's cool that they
set Nick up on the show. And Nick had a
really good season a year ago, and as he mentioned
(09:11):
lou Anarumo in your Number one as the defensive coordinator.
They have an emphasis on the secondary. You know, obviously
it's a great deal. Everything starts up front and getting
after the quarterback, but there is an emphasis on the
secondary as you could see in how they addressed the
off season as I mentioned with Mooney and with Binam
(09:32):
bringing them in in that secondary via free agency. That
is a big deal. And Nick Cross kind enough to
join us on the Andymore Automotive Group potline. Let us
take a break, we shall come back. We'll go over
Colts practice as they continue moving forward at Grand Park.
Little fever conversation from the loss last night, and a
lot more for you as well. Don't go anywhere they
(09:53):
strain the app it's HD Radio, the Triple A Membership
Lounge via YouTube live and ninety three to five and
one oh seven five. Well, it's the voice of the Fever.
Are they any more automotive group? Plotline? I do feel
I have an educated opinion here, and this is my opinion.
I am disappointed with this team being anyone on the season,
and with all things considered, so much time missed by
(10:14):
by Caitlyn Clark. It wasn't so much like last night,
and you know, they really took a beating late in
that game in the fourth quarter, as we saw. But
it's other games. It's losing to the Sparks a couple
of different times. Those those are the instances where I
think that things are disappointing, and I think those outweigh
(10:35):
Caitlyn Clark being out because of various injuries or a
fourth quarter against a really good team on their home
hardwood last night.
Speaker 3 (10:42):
Yeah, I mean, I think you're looking at this in
a couple of different tracks, one of them being the
obvious of Kaitlyn Clark's absence. I actually went back and
was looking at this yesterday. We remember the tough start
last year. The Fever were three and ten through thirteen games.
The schedule was brutal. They were trying to get their footing,
and then from there they really took off. And if
you look at that point all the way through where
we are now, so June thirteenth through today July twenty third,
(11:07):
or whatever it is, if you look at the games
with Caitlin Clark's, the Fever are twenty five and fourteen.
The games without Caitlin Clarks they're four and eight. So
that right there says something pretty obvious the importance of
her to this team. But the other side of that,
which I do think is true, and I think if
you talked to Stephanie White, Caitlan Clark, Kelsey Mitchell, they'd
all say the same thing. The Fever have let too
(11:28):
many slip away more than they like to slip away.
And I agree with you. Last night to me is
not in that category. That's a team that just want
a championship, that was at full strength. The Fever warrant
it's in their building. I thought there was a lot
of promising to take away from that for the first
three quarters, and unfortunately the fourth quarter went the way
it did, and they didn't give themselves a chance. But
(11:50):
that one, to me, you know, was a game where
I thought there were a lot of positives for a
good majority of it. The games like this, they've lost,
you know, a couple to the Sparks, and they let
a late lead slip against Atlanta. I believe their record
in the clutch is three and seven, and those are
games decided within five points in the final five minutes,
(12:10):
and that obviously isn't where you want it to be.
And so even with all of these games that Caitlin
Clark has missed, you know, you still probably feel like
this team should be something like fourteen and ten or so.
Fair to have some disappointment there, I think fair to
look at it optimistically. You know, you're a couple made
buckets away from being perhaps four games over five hundred
(12:32):
when you haven't had the player who ranked fourth in
the MVP voting last year for just about half of
the season. So yeah, I think you look at that
down a couple of different avenues, and I think both
of those are our fair assessments. And I think for
this team, you know, there's to me, they look like
they're starting to gel together a lot better in those
games without Caitlyn Clark. I think there is a positive
(12:55):
trend line there. But at the end of the day,
the twenty five and fourteen versus four and eight stats
speaks for itself. If you have, you know, goals of
competing at the top level, you need your best player.
That's true for anybody in this league, and it's very
true for the Fever. And you know, unfortunately we don't
know exactly when that's going to happen, but hopefully it
will be, you know, something that she still can be
(13:17):
quite impactful this year and where they can put together
a back half of the season run a little bit
maybe like we saw what the Pacers were able to
do just a few months ago.
Speaker 1 (13:26):
Is Pat boil In the voice of the Fever. He's
on the Andy More Automotive Group plotline, The Fever of
ninety eight eighty four loser last night on the road
in New York. I will say this, I thought, without
obviously the fourth quarter, really the entirety of the second
half wasn't great, but the fourth quarter wasn't good. To
get a game without player being available on the road
(13:49):
against that caliber of a defending champ, that type of team,
Kelsey Mitchell having a twenty nine point performance. I thought,
especially in the first half last night, you know, this
may be the night considering the circumstances, because you have
an offensive player that was really getting the job done.
Speaker 3 (14:05):
No question. You know, we did not have the broadcast
last night, as I think most people saw. It was
on ESPN if you watched, but we did have the broadcast,
and I was talking to you from New York the
last time we chatted. The previous game before that one
was also at New York with the All Star break
in between, and to me, the biggest key going into
that game, and any game where you take on a
(14:26):
team of the caliber of the New York Liberty, a
championship caliber team if you meant literally just won a championship,
you need, in my opinion, Kelsey Mitchell to have the
kind of night that she did, and it was promising
to see her play that way. There was no question
that the reason the fever. I think they had a
six point lead mid third quarter or so. They were
in that position for a few reasons, you know, Sophie
(14:48):
Cunningham's knocking down shots. But Kelsey Mitchell caught fire in
that game and she really has played really, really well
since the early portion of June, and this is kind
of her m but I don't want to also put
a feeling on her because each of the last few years,
she's found a way to slightly improve, slightly improve, slightly
improve off of what's already been you know, all star
(15:10):
caliber numbers. But if you look at her trend over
the course of their last few seasons, she gets off
to a slower start than she liked, and then typically
as the temperature heats up, so does she, and so
that's a positive trend. I think what you saw from
her last night was really really good. And I think
the other thing is for the fever, it's figuring out
how to get Aleah Boston involved close to You're not
(15:33):
going to get to the level than when you have
Caitlin available, but close to that level when she's not
out there. And because she's obviously a major, major part
of this team, and when she had the ball and
had the ball in good spots, I thought she did
a nice job. But there's there's to me, just a
little bit of discordination there with trying to get her
(15:57):
set up in her spots without Caitlin Clark, and again
we're talking about missing your best player. Life's a lot
more difficult without her. But if you want to try
to pull off a game like that, you know you'd
need a Kelsey Mitchell having the night like she did.
And for those who just see the final score, again,
that's the end game and that's the result. And I'm
not trying to sugarcoat a double digit loss, but there
(16:17):
was for long stretches of the game it looked like
the Fever might have a chance to sneak one out
of there. And I thought as well, as Kelsey Mitchell
has played all season, which is an especially noteworthy you know,
when she doesn't have Clark out there, because Caitlyn has
such gravity and pulls other players away from her, and
life's more difficult for Kelsey when she's not out there.
(16:38):
So for her to have the night that she did
last night, hopefully just the continuation of a trend that
we've seen. And Sophie Cunningham too, she got red hot
before the All Star break and I remember thinking, hopefully
that doesn't slow her down here almost a week without playing,
and she was really strong last night as well. And
I think Sophie's story the rest of the year will
be really impactful for how the Fever season ends as well.
Speaker 1 (17:00):
Pat boiling with us, do you have the game coming
up tomorrow night?
Speaker 2 (17:04):
We do?
Speaker 3 (17:04):
We do it?
Speaker 1 (17:05):
Well done? All right? I don't have to watch that
thing on Prime video?
Speaker 3 (17:08):
Then, no, we are right here on WTCHR.
Speaker 1 (17:11):
Well done. There you go. Not a guy right there,
this whole prime video thing. I mean, I'm already paying
so much in direct TV now I got to like
get all these law you log in passwords and all
this crap. Come on, I just turn on channel thirteen
and there you are, buddy.
Speaker 3 (17:30):
You know, we're in a stretch of schedule right now
where we don't get to do a lot of the
games will be off Sunday as well. The Fever are
at the sky. So this is for us a tougher
portion here because we go every other game or even
a little bit less than that here if our schedule
at least to get to do the game once we
(17:51):
get into mid August, those final three plus weeks of
the season, we got most of them, and most of
them are on WTCHR. So that'll be good hopefully for
people to settle in. You know, it's great to have
all of these different avitues. If you went back a
few years ago, you couldn't get the Indiana Fever for
unless you had League Pass or unless you had you know,
(18:11):
some obscure channels. But the accessibility just was nowhere near
the level it is. That part's cool. However, the flip
side of it is, I do understand if you want
to watch the Fever all season long, it does it
does take going to some different channels. Here. There one
way that fans can alleviate some of that. It's through
our Fever Direct platform, which is a way to get
(18:32):
the games you know, stream to you directly. But yeah, unfortunately,
in many cases, as National TV has stepped in and
everyone wants a little bit of a piece of this pie,
which is great for the organization, great for the team,
but can make it certainly a little bit challenging to
nowhere to watch them as we have gone from doing
I think like ninety five percent of the games, so
(18:53):
we're somewhere around sixty sixty high percent I think this year.
But we'll take it because it's a good reason that
NAT it's good for us, and it's a good reason
the National TV wants to hear these.
Speaker 1 (19:03):
Games, so pat Vegas and the Fever nearly really very
very much the same. Let's say records to this point
of the season, are their performances are they have they
been other than the injury situation on a familiar path?
And I say that in familiarity because of where their
(19:24):
records are at this point of the season.
Speaker 3 (19:26):
Vegas is a little tough to figure out for me
because this is a team that talent wise is up
there with any team in the WNBA. They want a championship.
Two years ago they won a couple of championships, and
why they're hovering around five hundred, I'm not really sure.
They probably got well player that was the MVP last
(19:47):
year and has won three times. You can make a
good case the best player in the world, or at
minimum a top three player in Asia. Wilson Jackie Young,
who played their high school ball in Indiana, is an
All Start. Gray is an All Star. They've got to
boat load a talent there. Juell Lloyd is an All Star,
just hasn't really clicked for whatever reason. If you just
(20:08):
sort of add up the All Star appearances from all
the teams in the league, it wouldn't surprise me if
Vegas had the most of them, but the Fever game
a few weeks ago against them was just maybe the
ultimate example. The Fever didn't have Caitlin Clark in that game,
and they want in dominant fashion. I don't have to
score in front of me, but it was a twenty
plus point game. So you talk about teams that are,
(20:31):
you know, maybe feeling like they should be in a
better spot than they are, Well, the Fever haven't had
Caitlin Clark for half of their season. That's been the
big story unfortunately for Indiana and trying to you know,
achieve more than a five hundred record. If you're Las Vegas,
you're looking at this from their standpoint saying, once this
all clicks, it should be really good. But here we
are in the back half of the season and it's
(20:52):
still not clicking yet, and that's kind of tough to
figure out. On any given night, they can be as
good as anybody in the league. If you told me
they ended up in the WNBA Finals, it wouldn't shock me.
But it's been a pretty lackluster start for them, and
it's been a little tough to figure out as to why.
Speaker 1 (21:06):
Did you read in the players Tribune the story by TJ.
Speaker 3 (21:10):
McConnell I did man fantastic.
Speaker 1 (21:14):
And I say this all along. That's why he is
a part, certainly of the heartbeat of exactly what that
is and why we enjoy it so much, and that
is a team. And I absolutely agree with everything he
had to say, not only about what he went through
obviously and losing in the NBA Finals, but the expectation
(21:37):
for that group where basically everybody else right now for
whatever reason deciding to count that them out because of
exodus and injury.
Speaker 3 (21:47):
He has just such a terrific way of understanding the
pulse of a team and of a fan base. And
I mean it was almost like the perfectly written story
from a player perspective, and you don't often see I
think a player have that much awareness, you know he
and for example, just using one player who is like that,
who we've been talking about here, I mean Caitlyn Clark.
(22:08):
Her awareness is through the roof. It's unbelievable. She never
missed steps, never says the wrong thing, always understands, you know,
what the fan base, whether it be the fever of
the WNBA is thinking, and gets the pulse of all
of that. Now, kayln Clark, a number one pick, megastar
TJ McConnell. Undrafted very different players in terms of how
they got to where they are, but they remind me
a lot of each other just because they get this
(22:30):
so much and so well. And yeah, it was such
a well written piece, you know, I think it's really
it's really enjoyable for the fans to be able to
read that and to see that the players felt what
I would assume are all of the same things that
(22:50):
the fans felt, and that connectivity that a piece like
that brings, where you just the team aspect of it,
the feeling like, you know, this team kind of had
the magic touch and was never gonna fully be beaten,
and then you know, just it was. It was probably
not a coincidence that it came out exactly one month
(23:11):
from the day of Game seven, but that was the
first thing I thought of, was June twenty second, July
twenty second, one month later, And you know, I think
there's a lot of pasers fans that still haven't recovered
from that. Unfortunately, maybe won't for a long time. And
that's that's the reality. And we love sports because of
you know, just the excitement that they can bring in
(23:34):
the unity that they can bring and this team did
all of those things and then to come up short
in the way they went short. I mean, it's it's
a heartbreaking story. It's a surreal story. I still kind
of find myself from time to time just thinking did
all that really happen? Whole playoff run happened the Tyree Halliburton,
I mean, are you kidding me? To that whole story?
And then did it seriously end the way that it did?
Speaker 4 (23:57):
I mean, it's been a month, and I.
Speaker 1 (23:59):
It goes because it goes so fast, because you move
from one spot to the other so quickly, you don't
have the opportunity to really wrap your arms around it
as much as you would like to until it's all over,
no question.
Speaker 3 (24:09):
I mean, you go from winning Game six against the
Knicks and then you're in the playing Game one in
the finals. You don't really have a bunch of time
to just let that soak in and settle in. And
you know, I don't know. I just thought it was
so well written. And I'm hopeful that Karen Atkinson, our
VP of play relations I've been I've been pushing her
to take a picture with TJ. Where she's got a
(24:30):
shirt that says not my son and an arrow pointing
at him, and you've got one that is not my
mom and an arrow pointing at her. Because that was
personally my favorite part of the story because Karen is
kind of like that to the players, and it was
it was funny for me to, you know, just kind
of see how that video unfolded, and then for TJ
to open up the story that way. I think they're
(24:52):
do a picture together.
Speaker 1 (24:53):
Is Pat boiling on the Eddybonne on a motor group
file line, a couple of things, and we'll wrap it up.
Jeremiah says, we definitely look at the setlist before every concert.
Melissa and I have been to quite a few. And
this is from the host of Quarry and Company, Jay Querry.
Shannon likes the Lumineers and went and said, it has
oddly become a young teenage girl band. I had no idea,
(25:20):
I'm not the Lumineers a young teenage girl band. Hey,
so in Hayho was their their signature song, right? And
I guess the crowd probably chanced that, right. I would imagine, yeah,
I would.
Speaker 3 (25:35):
I would guess that gets the crowd going pretty good.
Speaker 1 (25:37):
Hm, the Lumineers, And I'm like you. I thought the
Lumineers much like Mumford and Son and and the Avitt brothers.
And uh what Nick whatever his name is? And the
night Sweat so the badass or whatever, I don't know
what's it Nick? What's Nathaniel somebody in the bat sweats
(25:58):
or whatever it is? Sweats Nathaniel Ratlift or Ratcliffe? Am
I right about that? I'm sorry, I'm not.
Speaker 3 (26:08):
You're gonna have to have the other Nathaniel yet you can't.
Speaker 1 (26:11):
Heard Nathaniel Ratlift and the night sweats? What did I say?
The bet sweats pretty close right there? Sweats your night sweats?
There you go. I knew I was on target, all right.
So you'll get Pat Boyling coming up tomorrow night live
local on late Breaking on Channel thirteen w t HR.
(26:31):
And I don't think there looks to be any storms
moving in, so you should not be uh double boxed
or small boxed out just in case there is. And
they go to weather alongside of you, so all's good.
Speaker 3 (26:45):
Hopefully no storms. I think for those fans in attendance,
they might get to experience the upside down because you
didn't see the Fever brought back the Stranger Things Jersey
and that'll actually be starting tomorrow night, so that'll be
a cool experience. If you're watching on TV, you'll be
we see those, but if you're in the building, I
think you'll get some experience.
Speaker 1 (27:03):
You do you want Stranger Things?
Speaker 3 (27:07):
I do. I am a fan other than the fact
that I can't believe we're going on ten years of it,
but I am a big fan. I'm gonna need to
watch the whole thing over again because I don't remember
where we left off, but it grips me when it's
all when it's available.
Speaker 1 (27:24):
My daughter loves it. I don't have I don't think
I've ever seen an episode, but it's weird, like it
takes place fictitiously in Indiana and it's from the nineteen eighties,
and you would think it's something that I would absolutely
be in love with. But I know Kate Bush. It
really did revive the Kate Bush eighty six song Running
(27:44):
Up That Hill, which is awesome, great eighties soundtrack to it.
But I've never seen an episode. Oddly enough, yeah, I.
Speaker 3 (27:51):
Mean it's ability to bring that song. Did it hit
number one?
Speaker 1 (27:55):
If it did, I think it did.
Speaker 3 (27:56):
Yeah, Yeah, that's incredible base out of rural Indiana. I
remember watching it ten years ago and it really just
being enthralling and being really interested. And it's just with
the way they get released these days, sometimes it's tough
every couple of years to then go back and look
at it. I mean, the kids were kids then and
(28:16):
now they're ten years later. But it's a show that
that I think has captured the imagination of a lot
of people that maybe they were in their teams when
it started and now they're in their twenties or older.
And the Jersey's got such an unbelievable reception when they
came out in twenty twenty one, but they didn't have
the spotlight that we have right now, so I think
(28:38):
that's kind of a it's almost like reintroducing this to
a new portion of the fan base here. So I'm
glad we were able to come back and get those
get those done, and I think the show is reairing
maybe late in twenty twenty five, so this hopefully can
kind of be a kickoff to the final episodes in
the finale.
Speaker 1 (28:59):
Of Stranger Things. Unie's to Moon nine Channel thirteen WTHR.
Pat Boyling's got the call. He's on the Andy Moore
Automotive Group plotline. Man, good conversation. I appreciate it more
than you know, and have a great call tomorrow night.
Speaker 3 (29:14):
Likewise, my friend appreciates you.
Speaker 1 (29:16):
Pat Boyling's on the Andy Moore Automotive Group potline from
the Morning Show along with James Boyd, and I'm assuming
jeff Rickert is a part of the trio too, but
he's somewhere and his biker shorts vroom vrooming around the
mountains in and around France, I guess right now on
his bike. Still, he'll be back next week. But the
(29:37):
fellas are up in Westfield for the starts of Colts Camp.
And this is something I know that keV loves a
great deal. He joins us now Kevin Bowen and the
Andy Moore Automotive Group potline. Before we get started, how's
your toilet?
Speaker 4 (29:51):
Toilet needs a little bit more help, But yes, thank
you very much to Lance and Elie Swiss Plumbing for
getting up in the right direction. But unfortunately, I think
it's gonna be a multi step process.
Speaker 1 (30:03):
Oh oh, what's happening here?
Speaker 4 (30:07):
We got an old home first off, so anytime we
got a hundred year home. I don't think anything from
a client standpoint is great. So yeah, we got running
toilets upstairs and down, and we got max bow and
potty training right now, So we've got no time to
be having running toilets when we're trying to get that
kid on the toilet and get.
Speaker 1 (30:28):
Him an eminem Right. Well, I mean you could just
go out to the yard if you want the squat
in the yard.
Speaker 4 (30:35):
Trust me, he has been naked a lot, and he
has been in the front in the backyard, and we
live on way too busy of a street. I kind
of forget that he's naked and got some of the
looks we've gotten from some of these people. I'm like,
you know, you know, keep the head up and then
let's not intimidate the kid and let's just keep on moving.
(30:56):
We all were there at some point in our lives.
Speaker 1 (30:58):
You do live on a busy treat, don't you.
Speaker 4 (31:01):
Yeah, right off Central, and I don't think anybody's trying
to mess around with you know, College and Redline and
all that. So yeah, Central is Yeah, honest, he's one
of those three time like I'd probably prefer him to
be in the backyard a little bit more, but he's
still obsessed with stirring at the cars and everything that
wants to be in the front yard. So yeah, not
a not a good time to be a pipe in
(31:23):
the Bowing household with Max bone.
Speaker 1 (31:24):
Oh Man, well Lance and his local team at L. D.
Speaker 2 (31:28):
Smith.
Speaker 1 (31:28):
I mean plumbing, I should say to the rescue right there,
that is fantastic. I know you love this. I talk
about sports arousals all the time. Is colch Cam kind
of a sports arousal for you?
Speaker 2 (31:42):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (31:43):
I don't know if I'm going six to midnight, but
you know, if we're you know, playing the clock game,
I don't know. Me it's a little higher than six am.
It's just it's so nice to be out of that
out of that studio. I mean, I feel like we're
in a closet.
Speaker 1 (31:54):
In there, especially when all four of you guys are
in here. I mean, he got all packed in his
shoe box like crazy.
Speaker 4 (32:02):
Right, and I don't shower before shows, so you know,
my hand is fully raised. So I enjoyed it. Yeah, James,
and I, like you said, we're up there's rocking the
yellow shirt and watching the Tour de France over there.
Speaker 1 (32:15):
Yeah, at least you got Lamar Lamar, at least Lamon
Armstrong is in Paris and not stuffed in here with
you right now.
Speaker 4 (32:22):
Yeah, Floyd Landis has got them over there, so you know,
and ike th can do hell he wants with nobody
coming in there for three hours.
Speaker 1 (32:32):
So yeah, riding around on his banana seat. You think
he has a banana seat on his bike, you know? Yeah,
he actually he actually pedaled his room room his huffey
once upon a time down the monad to where I
was in Carmel. This is back in the spring, and
I said, hey, man, can you keep going down that
(32:53):
direction because the I'm really offended by what you have on.
He had biker shorts on. I go, I don't should
gross out my crowd.
Speaker 4 (33:02):
I gotta send you these I gotta send you these picks.
He sent us from France. I we're all very confused,
like he's he's on the bike, he's in full uniform,
and again you would think he's in stage thirteen for
whatever the US Postal Express Team or whatever the hell
the name of our teams are these days, and the
(33:23):
tour of France, and he is I mean, he is
getting my professional I mean These are unbelievable looking photos.
Someone has to be on another bike taking these pictures
like you would think he is, you know whatever Armstrong
Land is. I have no idea, you know, who would
be riding alongside him. But nonetheless, you know the visit
(33:47):
Paris magazine might have jeff Rickord on the front cover
here in the month of July.
Speaker 1 (33:51):
Wow, he's sending pictures back to you, guys.
Speaker 4 (33:53):
Huh, yeah, we got three of them. Yeah, I'm gonna,
I'm gonna. I'm gonna find these and fire one off
set during this during this interview? Is there anything more
Greg Breakestraw than him joining you from Iceland? Yesterday? Ray
just texted me to set up not her name's non
conference schedule for basketball just came out, and Rake is
(34:14):
texting me right now trying to set up our annual
trip up US thirty one for that. Like, there's no
more Greg Breakestaw than calling you yesterday.
Speaker 1 (34:22):
And then doing that and like Amy said, Hey, it's
it's my birthday. This is the reason while we're here,
I say, can you she probably say, can you leave
that client alone for five minutes? And let's pay attention
to this volcanic whatever it is. Right here, this uh
hot hot spring.
Speaker 4 (34:41):
I could not agree more. I literally was just thinking
about her. All right, I just sent you a couple
of these pictures.
Speaker 3 (34:46):
Well, yeah, something just.
Speaker 1 (34:49):
Came in here, Kevin Bowen, You guys will not be
able to see this, so this may not be the
most entertaining radio. Yeah, that's not bad. Right there, he
looks very focused on the road.
Speaker 4 (35:02):
Who's taking pictures?
Speaker 1 (35:03):
Yeah, somebody's got the Who's got this rare end shot
right here? I don't like that? Oh yeah, there's there's
the Eiffel Tower. You said that's not King's Island or
is that Paris?
Speaker 4 (35:18):
I thought you might print that out, you know whatever,
eleven by fourteen and get that in our studio.
Speaker 1 (35:24):
You go, if if you play your cards right, you
may get a big poster up here on the wall.
If you're not careful, you know what I mean.
Speaker 4 (35:32):
Trust me, I know, I know, I'm I'm afraid. I
guess it's probably good that we're that we're moving Charley.
Speaker 1 (35:38):
So Kevin Bowens with us all right? The day that
was in quarterbacks and I know you guys are going
to be forced to document absolutely everything how things go
for both from what you were you were watching what
you saw.
Speaker 4 (35:51):
Yeah, I thought, in general, just a very rocky you
know whatever. I guess you chalking up to day one
for the passing offense in general, and I really didn't
think the pass case to help him out at all.
I thought Richardson had probably drops from Taylor for sure.
I would say Ashton Dulan and Michael Pittman Junior also
had a drop. So yeah, I just thought in general
(36:13):
the passing offense. You know, if this was whatever Peyton
and mccolts in two thousand and nine, you would say
day one russ too much off season party. And if
you're talking about the twenty twenty five Colts, he would say,
oh boy, here we go again. So you know, we'll
see how that plays out. Obviously, it's a one hour
practice on July whatever today is twenty third, So yeah, Richard,
(36:33):
I was surprised that Richardson took, you know, more of
the starting reps. I know, Shane Second said after practice,
they will flip flop that and they're going to try
for that fifty to fifty split as best as possible,
but from like a scaled back volume whatever, you know.
Chris Potter was alluding to yesterday. They didn't do that
in the eleven on eleven, which I think it's smart.
They did that more in the individual, So you know,
(36:54):
I think it's vital Richardson gets as many of those
team reps as possible, and today he got a lot
of them.
Speaker 1 (37:01):
Huh. So I do you gather now they say all
the right things. I know, it whears everybody out because
they talk about processes and patients and all that. Nobody
wants to hear about that around here, absolutely nobody. But
you buy what they're trying to sell as far as
how they're evaluating this and what they're looking for and
(37:21):
how they are going to take their time attle as
far as the starter's concerned.
Speaker 4 (37:27):
I mean today I thought, you know, again the fact
that it was the fifty to fifty and the fact
that you know, Richardson you know, took the majority of
them already, I didn't think that's important to try to
create a competition. I still kind of look at Daniel
Jones and if you believe Jane Second's word of consistent, consistent, consistent, well,
I mean if you literally are evaluated on who's more consistent,
(37:49):
well that's that's Jonans more than Richardson, which again is
a little bit of a different tune than what they've
sung before. So I would say that I think it
could be more of a real competition than maybe I thought.
Just again, the fact that Richardson was back throwing as
much as he was doing today, Now again, how did
that play out? They're gonna have four straight practices this week?
(38:12):
Is today the same workload he's gonna have later in
the week, you know, obviously remains to be seen. But
I don't know, you know, Chris dowarders, you know, certainly,
you know, speaking a lot more to the long term
with Richardson and whatever the Baker Mayfield analogy in the
Sam Darneld analogy, which I don't really think is apples
to apples. But then again, when you hear the words
consistent with Shane Siken that you know, the only word
(38:34):
the only time you would use consistent with Anthony Richardson
has described him as consistently inconsistent, so that I don't
think is good for number five.
Speaker 1 (38:44):
Yeah, I would agree right there too. All right away
from the quarterback situation, We're gonna have plenty of time
to document and talk that up. But anything else stand
out to you you said there were some drops that
was problematic today. That's you know, all early in what
is going on out there, But anything else stand out
to you from what you witnessed in day number one?
Speaker 4 (39:04):
Yeah, I thought the corners caught my eye. I thought
Shavari Sward had a couple of nice plays, you know,
Kenny Moore the second had a wonderful one handed interception
of a poor decision by Daniel Jones in a seven
on seventh period. And then justin Wally, I know we've
talked a little bit about him, the third round pick
out of Minnesota. He was a starter today when they
(39:25):
went into their you know, three corner grouping. So I
don't know, I'd be hard pressed to find a time
where the Colts have been this outspoken about a rookie.
And then you know, actions have also backed that up
again the fact that today he was starting over a
guy like Jalen Jones, who you know, was a very
consistent starter for you each of the last two years.
(39:47):
So I mean, I thought those things kind of stood out.
Anthony Richardson's didn't say down with about two forty, which
is definitely a drop in his playing weight A little
bit more like a college days. He didn't say that
was necessarily something he was trying for, but that took
place this offseason. Yeah, those are probably the main thing, Danny.
(40:10):
It's just a tanner Borderlini was the starting center today
over Danny Pinter. Sounds like that'll be a back and
forth competition to keep an eye on. But again, for
the most part here we're in kind of these one
hour practices, more of an ota feel. I think once
he gets a Saturday, especially next Monday Tuesday, those are
I think kind of your bigger dates to maybe circle
of just a little bit more truer evaluation.
Speaker 1 (40:32):
He is Kevin Bowen in the Morning Show along with
James Boyd. He's kind of enough to join us on
the anymore. And I'm on have group pileline talking up
coach Camp. They'll be out there again coming up tomorrow.
I think we all were on the same thought of
the offensive line, kind of wondering about that. We didn't
really talk it up too much, but kind of wondered
about it a little bit. You mentioned Mordlini and Pinter. Well,
(40:58):
some of our thoughts or maybe concerns about the depth
along the offensive line be put to bed. By the
competitions that are going on, or do you think that's
something that is going to continue throughout camp and then
end of the season considering the personnel they have compared
to the personnel that they've lost.
Speaker 2 (41:19):
No, I think it's.
Speaker 4 (41:20):
Definitely something that should go to the regular season. And
you know, you could propagate this for all thirty two
teams just to preface that. But you know, for example,
back of bof with the tackle you know, Blake Freeland,
I think has had it definitely lasted your last camp.
He had a very rough camp and they feel like
he's bigger and stronger. And then they talk about Jalen Travis,
fourth round pick out of Iowa State, and you know,
(41:42):
I think there's a thought there that again, he might
have a high ceiling, but you know, he hit that
as a mid round pick rookie, and if and when
either those who are called upon, if Bernard Ryman or
Braden stuff go down, you know, that could impact things
in a hurry. They really didn't touch the offensive line,
you know, at all, outside of you know, drafting Travis
(42:02):
in the fourth round. So it's a lot of you know,
the same guys that we kind of saw last year.
In in the depth spots and you know Mac Gonsalvez
for example, at right guard. You know that is not
where he really played at Pittsburgh. And you know the
thought there is he he's just kind of been given
those starting keys. That is not a competition. It's a
competition at center with Ryan Kelly down Minnesota, both Will
(42:24):
Fries also up there. It's just Magansalves his job, which
is great for him, but uh, you know again how
does that look at as he plays a new position.
So it's probably the most it's probably the most o
line you know, questions that we've had and in you know,
quite some time. And again we haven't even got into
(42:44):
you know, Brad Smith and obviously there's a lot there
with him. Bernard Ryman and Quentin Nelson are kind of
the givens and you don't expect anything there, but you know,
I would say the other spots there are definitely some questions.
And then you know, depth wise, particularly tackle, I don't
know if you sleep, you know, super easy at night.
Speaker 1 (43:03):
Is Bernard Ryman moving up the board with some of
the better left tackles of the NFL. He kind of
slowly but surely clobbing that.
Speaker 4 (43:12):
Yeah, I mean, I think you might be Chris Howard's
best ever draft pick. And you know, I think you
consider the round when you say something like that. You know,
obviously Barry Flyndard had an incredible start to his career,
but you know, Leonard was taking forty some spots higher
than Ryan. Then I just think, for you know, finding
a quality left tackle in the middle of round three
(43:34):
is not something that you know, teams bank on very often. Now, yeah,
if you want to nitpick, they probably waited a hair
too long and trying to find Anti Cassando's replacement. But
I didn't think Ryman has turned into a really, really
nice player. So whenever that contract extension will happen, if
it's before the start of the season, I think he
will get a very nice pay day, very deserved pay da.
Speaker 1 (43:56):
All right, I don't have you ever seen Pascal Siakam
in the parking garage here?
Speaker 3 (44:03):
Uh?
Speaker 4 (44:03):
No parking garage it yeah.
Speaker 1 (44:06):
Oh yeah, all right, Nathaniel is here. Nathaniel, give us
a Passalciakim in our parking garage. You gotta watch out
every now and then you take a step out to
your car and keep an eye out. Yeah, you don't
get run over. Well, that's why I reference. I think
he's perfect to be in the pace car for the
Brickyard four hundred. With what we have seen in the
(44:26):
parking garage here before, it's pretty impressive.
Speaker 2 (44:29):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (44:29):
Well, I know a lot of people were hoping, Brady,
might you know, send it right into the wall there
and turn one back in late May. I I don't
think we're thinking the same sentiment with Passcalciakam at all.
Speaker 2 (44:39):
You know.
Speaker 4 (44:40):
Honestly, the people that I fear the most in the
garage of the Conrad Valley.
Speaker 1 (44:43):
Oh those guys are crazy, yeah, crazy.
Speaker 4 (44:46):
And even the booker, the BEPO guy, I mean, he's
just I'm like, man, if you go an he's faster
around that turn, we're gonna set a chini Alfredo all
over the garage floor.
Speaker 1 (44:55):
I try really hard to make sure I don't accidentally
clip somebody small ook at a cigarette standing outside of Buca
de Beppo. They try, I'm telling you what, They have
no fear. They just stand there and just absolutely just
crash that heater as you're passing through. Every time.
Speaker 4 (45:17):
It is probably a minor miracle that I have not
registered an accident in my day's parking in that garage,
so knock on wood. But okay, uh head on a swivel. Now,
is there a vehicle with passcal Siakama should keep an
eye out for here.
Speaker 1 (45:31):
Big ol' suv.
Speaker 2 (45:34):
Flatten yet right where you stand.
Speaker 1 (45:36):
Now, that's what i'd heard that before. So yeah, he's
I think he's a perfect choice. Uh Kayla Clark has
been ruled out officially tomorrow night against the Aces the
Fever wearing their Stranger Things uniforms. I just talked to
Pat Bothering a little bit earlier, even on the season.
I guess you could suggest they're hanging in considering all
(45:56):
the time that she has missed this year, which is
un fortunate. But it's the other game. So Kevin wasn't
so much last night losing in the fashion in which
they did against New York, especially late in that game,
and you know, having a bad fourth quarter as they did.
But it's those other games, you know, like you gainst
the La Sparks couple of losses there, that's where I
find the disappointment. How about you?
Speaker 4 (46:19):
Yeah, I mean you can definitely point to that. I
mean I would say this organizationally, I mean the Dalanta
Bonner thing was just a bleep show. I mean, can
you imagine if that was Chris Ballard, you know, bringing
in one of the bigger free agent names in the
history of the franchise, and then that player a gets
benched and then the you know, leads the team. I mean,
that's just a total misevaluation on and off the floor.
(46:41):
So you know, Amber Coox new GM and that's just
a horrific move right there when you know, I don't
want to act like you've got crazy amount of urgency
with Caitlyn Clark, but you know, they felt like, you know,
you were creating kind of a one year window with
a lot of those deals. The new CBA. You know,
it doesn't happen until next year. So yeah, I mean
(47:01):
record live, I would say, you know, definitely there's been
some disappointment to it. But you know, that move in particular,
you know, I think, really blew up very early in
the year before the whole drama played out with her
leaving the team as well. So I assume we don't
see Caitlin Clark until August. That's kind of my thought.
I mean, she's obviously not practicing right now. You would
(47:24):
think with all the different times she's had to restart
things this year, you would want at least a full
week of practice before she gets back on the floor.
So again, you're not at like a major major, you know,
defcon level, but if you look at the standings, I mean,
they're not that far out of missing the playoffs. So
(47:45):
you know, if she can get back, I don't know,
middle in a season for you know, her to get
reacclimated the record to be at a point where you
still make the playoffs and with her, I still think
they could be very tough out. But yeah, largely, you know,
it has been a season that you know, for championship aspirations,
and you know, it's the most talented WNBA team that
(48:08):
Stephanie White's been around, and all of that. I don't
think we've seen that play out.
Speaker 1 (48:12):
Yeah, we both know this that Greg Racetraw is going
to have to hustle back and make sure he does
some play by play here. You think anybody who's ever
gone straight from rankovic Iceland to uh Carol Stadium to
do the Indie eleven.
Speaker 4 (48:25):
When he told you yesterday that like he'll be stateside
for like fourteen hours. Yeah, before he's you know, calling
