Speaker 1 (00:00):
Pat Sullivan's studio Now with Us asked Pat, what where's
the concert ever ever wise Amphitheater downtown, which is an
awesome white river. Alison Kraus was there last night singing her.
Speaker 2 (00:12):
Bluegrass that's I love that venu?
Speaker 1 (00:16):
Yeah, I think did she sing due like they did
on Andy Griffiths Show Right off the bat?
Speaker 2 (00:21):
You're gonna ask me music questions. Yeah, you don't know.
Speaker 1 (00:24):
You don't know anything about Andy Griffith Show and the
bluegress do Well were stepping down the huller do trying
to make a dollar. Doly, won't you give me a
swallow and I'll pay you back some days?
Speaker 2 (00:36):
I just remember the Mount Pilot girls, that's all.
Speaker 1 (00:40):
Oh, yes, the Mount Pilot girls, the fun girls, they
were there, Hi, doll, which you one of the fun girls?
Would you rather have or remember?
Speaker 2 (00:52):
I don't. I just remember the one that.
Speaker 1 (00:54):
Called Barney Bernie or the one with the voice that
sounds like she remember everything that sound like? She smoke
to carton the Winston's before the episode started.
Speaker 2 (01:02):
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (01:03):
No, flip a coin, Flip a coin? Which one of
the girls, the women of Mayberry Aunt b Come on, man,
you know back in the twenties, Aunt b was smoke real.
Have you ever seen old school pictures of aunt Be
Francis Bovier. No, not seen old school pictures. In the twenties,
(01:24):
Aunt Bee was rocking. So don't bother knocking. Okay. First
story Pat Sullivan hashtag asked Pat get those questions in.
I mentioned we have free yetti, but we have a
lunch bag we've never given away yet.
Speaker 3 (01:38):
I know.
Speaker 2 (01:38):
I saw. I was looking around thinking what would be different. Yeah,
and I saw the lunch bag. I thought that would
be different.
Speaker 1 (01:43):
We love free yetti. You're looking at her right now.
She's smoked a five.
Speaker 2 (01:48):
She's good looking. I'm wenn tell you what year.
Speaker 1 (01:50):
Is that picture? Like nineteen twenty five. It doesn't have
a date on it, but it looks like it's the
in the nineteen twenty four time. I mean, and all
the women's pictures. If you're a model in like the
twenties of the thirties, it was like like straight out.
Your cleave was like straight out. But no, I told
you she was smoked back then. I've done the research, Pat,
(02:12):
I've done the research.
Speaker 2 (02:14):
I'm glad you got some time.
Speaker 1 (02:15):
To do it. You have a little bit of time
to do my Andy Griffith show research.
Speaker 2 (02:18):
Sit around to do that research. Hey, what is it
you're complaining about the weather. The weather raves.
Speaker 1 (02:23):
This is not what it's supposed to be like, this
is October crap.
Speaker 2 (02:29):
I'll take that.
Speaker 1 (02:29):
We'll take October and October. We don't take October in August.
It's unethical. I have seriously, this summer has been awful.
What yeah, awful?
Speaker 2 (02:42):
Awful?
Speaker 1 (02:43):
Yeah, because the start of it sucked because it was cold,
and now the end of it's going to suck because
it's cold, no hotter than sweaty Oh, look at this
all over ten that it provided me this summer.
Speaker 2 (02:54):
Look at me. I'm bronze more than George Hamilton. Look
at this.
Speaker 1 (03:00):
Take a look at this before you take a listener poll,
I can guarantee you they are on my side. All right,
let's go to it two three, nine, ten seventy. Let's
go to the text line, this summer of heat, when
it was hot, when it was humid? Great or not
so great answer? Let's see what people have to say.
(03:21):
They're going to agree with me. I don't think so.
Speaker 2 (03:24):
Think so. Hey, how was Eggfest?
Speaker 4 (03:26):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (03:26):
Wow, it was good? It was hot, how bad? You
know what it really? We were only off with everything
going on in town, the live Tournament the final weekend
of the Great State because we had moved our event.
Speaker 1 (03:42):
Which is kind of like miniature golf. Yeah, that's what
the live tournament is, kind of to me, like miniature golf.
Speaker 2 (03:47):
I didn't know much about it, but I hear it's
pretty fun.
Speaker 1 (03:49):
I think did John Rahm win? Did he bank it
off the windmill for the man?
Speaker 2 (03:52):
I believe he did?
Speaker 1 (03:56):
Probably, so go ahead, I'm sorry didn't meet it.
Speaker 2 (03:58):
And then he had the Colts game of Horse.
Speaker 1 (04:00):
Yes, and it's a that was about the only time
you could sell preseason tickets if you're a season ticket holder,
right would be due to a Packer game and because
there was a little bit of drama going on at
Colts quarterback, which I don't know how anybody ironed that
out other than already having that preconceived notion.
Speaker 2 (04:20):
You that five can't play. You kind of missed that one,
didn't you.
Speaker 4 (04:24):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (04:24):
I did.
Speaker 1 (04:24):
I think I whiffed on that big time. Yeah I did.
Thanks for pointing that out. Yeah, anything else any other
flaws you'd like to point out here?
Speaker 2 (04:31):
Actually I would the question of you say five can't play,
what was the lead up to the draft that they
thought five could play.
Speaker 1 (04:42):
I'm assuming let's take this piece of clay and mold
it into something special. I'm Shane Steichen and I'm an
offensive with he's a specimen. I'm an offensive wizard. I'm
Morocco Brown says this guy is great. I mean, you
get different stories. I heard that there are a lot
in that room there that liked him, but there may
(05:02):
bee was a couple, maybe one in particular, that stood
out and didn't And at this point the one that didn't.
And Morocco Brown, who most heavily scouted him, is gone
now so and Chase Tikin is the one that said
he really wanted him, and you see that. That's my
biggest disappointment is you have a guy and you bring
(05:23):
him in and we're not talking about transforming him into,
you know, one of the great quarterbacks of the past.
We're not saying he's going to be Patrick Mahomes right now,
but you can't have this guy in year three, in
week one, ready to start.
Speaker 2 (05:36):
That's how bad this is. I know that's how bad
this is.
Speaker 1 (05:40):
So I think that speaks more volumes really about this
than anything else does with the story.
Speaker 2 (05:45):
But you were you were a believer. You thought they
were going to be able to get him ready for
this season.
Speaker 1 (05:51):
JMB No, I expected him to expected him to. Yes,
I thought you had come hell or high water. Because
my point was, Pat, if he's not playing, as he's
not going to as of right now, then why the
need to bring everybody back hit the reset button. If
he's not it, who is it? You don't have it, now,
go out and get it. Start the clock. So now
(06:14):
at the end of this year, you're going to have
to refire a clock that you could have started with
a reboot this last season. And that was my philosophy.
If he is not going to play or not going
to be the starter, why are we jacking with any
of this? And here we are, here we.
Speaker 2 (06:30):
Are hashtag asked Pat questions.
Speaker 1 (06:33):
All right, let's see some of the answers are in
regarding the weather.
Speaker 5 (06:40):
Jam V.
Speaker 1 (06:40):
Sorry brother, as a construction worker, the heat sucked. Blank,
thank you very much. Troy and Coocomo says, I'm Troy
and Cocomo. This guy says, wait, he did he He
didn't weigh in, he just said he just said it.
Was as Troy and Cocomo. Weather has been nice and hot.
We get enough crappy winter type weather around here. I'll
(07:03):
take the heat. See Cocamo and I are on the
same stinking page right here. Patrick, that's just somebody sucking
me and sucking after the and Cocamo, buddy, that's Howard County, right,
Howard County, Howard County, Green County.
Speaker 2 (07:16):
Brothers. They give out more speeding tickets right there on
thirty one than any I've never been to Cocomo my life.
How about that?
Speaker 1 (07:23):
Because I've never been to South Bend. Because I've never
been to Notre Dame because I don't like Notre Dame.
Speaker 2 (07:27):
How about that. I'm not a big fan of Notre Dame. Really.
Speaker 1 (07:30):
I have been to Laporte once, but we didn't go
that direction. I guess how come the heat. Just not
a big fan of Notre Dame.
Speaker 2 (07:37):
You know you can not be a fan without I
don't think I hate it, just sounds I say, I hate, yeah,
the way it is. I don't hate going to Notre Dame.
I don't hate anybody.
Speaker 1 (07:46):
I won't even go up to see my grandma in
South Bend. I might see the Golden dome, hot weather.
Only good on the weekend when I can be on
the lake or floating on the water with a beer
mark and Brownsboro.
Speaker 2 (07:59):
So, in other words, that's one and a half asked,
here's seven days. Five of them suck, he says, he's
on my side.
Speaker 1 (08:06):
Hashtag as pat for Pat Sullivan. Why do they sell
brisket flats separate but not the points? I have no
idea what that means. Brisket flat separate but not the points?
Hashtag ass pat.
Speaker 2 (08:19):
Don't know? Sorry, great answer. That's a question. That's a
question for our friends at cancaids.
Speaker 1 (08:27):
Yes it is. I met that guy. I can't remember
what his name is. Problem Joe is Joe at Taylor's
a couple of months ago. Yeah, good dude, great guy
right there. Hashtag gas pat. More questions coming up, just
like this. Hashtag gas pat at two, three, nine, ten
seventy one is the best time to received bear spots
in the fall?
Speaker 2 (08:47):
Thank you? Something I can answer. You know, if right
now is the time to start killing some weeds if
you want, if you need to get rid of some weeds,
and then you want to have your seed down by
the third week of September, a lot of times people
think that seating is kind of an October uh and
even early November thing. It really isn't because the roots
(09:08):
need to establish themselves, so try to get it in
by the third week of September. JMV. I guess the
heat was okay? If you were a.
Speaker 1 (09:17):
Cactus bowing Indy, thank you very much. Do you have
some cactus qualities? Thank you, bo bo, thank you very much.
Let's see writes this. Here's a question for hashtag asked
pat Well. I hurt the grass and mystic waters if
I sleep on it three nights in a row during
the weekend bender with JMV.
Speaker 2 (09:37):
No, No, that'll be fun. As long as you have
a good turf type tall rescue, you're a okay, a okay.
If you have fine rye, you may want to roll
around a little more.
Speaker 1 (09:48):
My man, let'say, is going to have a great weekend?
Speaker 2 (09:51):
I predict. Yeah, that's because it's nice and cool out
and that's great. Fall like weather hot and sweaty started like.
Speaker 1 (09:58):
Hot, sweat, shirtless snow hashtag disgust weather.
Speaker 2 (10:03):
What's the best bait to lure some rogue raccoons into
a live trap cage? They keep getting into my trash.
Speaker 1 (10:10):
Thanks.
Speaker 2 (10:11):
See, you know what, the raccoons, you know, are pretty
easy with uh. I would say either half of an
apple with a little peanut butter on them. They would
like that for their last.
Speaker 1 (10:21):
Man twenty five Raccoon possum combinations that Paradise Dave Watson
has trapped live trapped and then taken them across the
White River on the other side of the bridge and
dumped him out. Really true story twenty five and Jeff
Watson everybody live trapper?
Speaker 2 (10:40):
How does he know that they can't get back? I
don't know.
Speaker 1 (10:44):
They could cross the bridge. I guess that's what I'm saying.
Speaker 2 (10:46):
They do. Raccoon swim not very well.
Speaker 1 (10:49):
Possum never look like they know what they're doing. They
just kind of why did possum look? We have like
people walking around here that are similar to that. We
have We have a we have a listener that had
a pet pet possum. Yeah, yeah, I've seen that before too.
That's really tell you what he probably does. Your mom, No,
your mom likes the raccoons. Oh yeah, well she used
(11:11):
to feed them cookies. But now they're dogs around there,
which I hate. So that's problem. Hey, I do have
a question? Hashtag asked Pat for me, what's this whole
armadillo armadillo trend that's happening in the state. Is that true?
He had had Armadillo's infiltrating the Who's your states?
Speaker 2 (11:27):
I don't think in a big way. Okay, but that
Denny Smith was on that last week and as it
started talking, I didn't listen.
Speaker 1 (11:34):
Oh really, See the reason why I asked because somebody
had a picture on Facebook the other day. One was
like running through the parking lot at Walmart and Spencer.
Speaker 2 (11:41):
I think those are transplants, and I just.
Speaker 1 (11:43):
Thought it was because it was Owen County. I thought
maybe it was just a really big cockroach, no with
a tail.
Speaker 2 (11:48):
No, No, it's a thing. But I'm not sure. I'm
not sure the origin.
Speaker 1 (11:53):
See, we've asked five questions and you didn't have an
answer for two.
Speaker 2 (11:57):
You know what, you're asking the wrong question.
Speaker 1 (12:00):
An armadillo is a good hashtag ass pat question.
Speaker 2 (12:03):
There is no that is not an Indiana question.
Speaker 1 (12:06):
Here's one for you, hashtag gass pad. Brandon Reeve his
wife Pat wants to know how soon she can get
and plant mums.
Speaker 2 (12:13):
Mum's the word Mum's the word. If you want to
try to get bring back the moms and use them
as a perennial, then you want to get them in
the ground a sap, a sample, because it's sooner that
they can establish roots, the more likely they are to
come back. If you're just using rests an annual. You
want to want to make sure that you when you
buy them, buy them with a tight bud that's just cracking,
(12:36):
rather than the ones coming out of greenhouses that are
full blown. Yeah, because you want to you want to
get the extended life. You got time to hang for
a little bit here too.
Speaker 4 (12:45):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (12:45):
And by the way, yes, you got the quarterback thing wrong.
That was just one question. I'll be coming down on me.
Pal had one question, you got it wrong. Yeah, let's
go ahead and steer this the other direction here.
Speaker 1 (13:01):
Hot and sweaty and shirtless sounds like the title of
Jamv's autobiography, Colin Day. Hot, sweaty and shirtless. It's gonna suck,
but I gotta start wearing shirts full time again, know.
Speaker 4 (13:14):
What I mean?
Speaker 2 (13:16):
Jamv?
Speaker 1 (13:16):
Now that the temperature is not even nineties, it's okay
to put down liquid weed killer. If so, how long
do we have the way to put it down. Thank
you hashtag gaspath.
Speaker 2 (13:26):
You know the best time to kill weeds is in
the in the fall anyways, because movement is down towards
the root, So you have plenty of time to to
kill weeds with liquid weed killer, which is what I
prefer to use. But you're right, be careful. It's been
a you really haven't been able to use it very
often because of the temperatures above ninety and then you
will you can't actually damage your desirable grass.
Speaker 1 (13:49):
I got two other questions. I have eight pounds of flounder.
I'm going to grill tonight. I'm gonna have questions on
my preparation, okay, And I also remind me of this.
I've got a pool question. Do they have heater rentals
for Labor Day? Weekend heater rentals? Cool heater rentals. Think
about that for a moment. And Jalong wanted to tell
(14:10):
you about sucker punch. That was your recommendation, sucker Punch
of a couple of weeks ago. We'll get into that.
Pat Sullivan returns free YETI a lunch bag for the
first time and a thermos free yetti at hashtag gas Pat.
If we read if we take your calls at two
three nine ten seventy or your text messages, you could
win that free yetti.
Speaker 2 (14:30):
Hashtag ass pad.
Speaker 1 (14:31):
Speaking of animals, raccoon, live traps, possum, live traps. So
in a couple of years hashtag gas pet are we
going to be live trapping on Medillo's?
Speaker 6 (14:42):
Uh?
Speaker 1 (14:42):
You know what, let's hope not. I think that is
an isolated incident. Those raccoons eat your sweetcorn, don't they?
You can't have a lot of.
Speaker 2 (14:51):
Different things, you know what. People are really at war that.
You know. People will say that it's us because we've
built into their area. But you know where I live,
It's like.
Speaker 1 (15:02):
Did the raccoon stake their claim to that?
Speaker 5 (15:04):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (15:05):
I guess, but I mean we had now have I
saw coyote the other day in my backyard. We got
deer now I told first on my deck. Those things
are huge. Oh yeah, he gets up all the time
on his back legs. He just goes.
Speaker 1 (15:18):
I ate a piece of sweet corn and actually I
eat it on the back deck and then throw the
cob out in the backyard. I think he was digging
on that a little bit and he liked it.
Speaker 2 (15:27):
So you talk about your mother.
Speaker 1 (15:29):
Hey, how should I prepare? I have eight pounds of
grilled flounder tonight? Do I just slap that bad boy
with old bay and say see you later? How long
do I put that on the grill for it to
be enticing? I don't want to make myself sick. I
would go lower, lower temp, lower temp. And then I
would probably make a basket out of tinfoil. Okay, kind
of put so your sauces and stuff will kind of
(15:50):
marinate us as it goes in, okay, because that means
I won't lose it on the That's correct, right, that's correct?
So I got it, yep. And then but I'm not
sure what that hemp set? But do you like flounder?
Speaker 4 (16:02):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (16:02):
You know, I'm I like it. I've ever had where'd
you get fonder from? I bought it? It was really cheap.
Speaker 1 (16:07):
It was like four eighty for two and a half
pounds of Kroger the other day, really, and I saw
it and I want I'm gonna get to I get
about four bags.
Speaker 2 (16:14):
Hmmm, that is good. A lot of flounder?
Speaker 5 (16:16):
You like?
Speaker 2 (16:17):
You go to the grocery store A lot, a lot?
Do you really?
Speaker 1 (16:20):
I do beenless amounts. I bet I go two and
three times a week to get cottage cheese because that's all.
That's really all I've eaten. I haven't had a grain
or anything in months, so cheese. You should start introducing
some other food, probably should. I'm thinking now that there's
probably an opportunity.
Speaker 2 (16:39):
I want.
Speaker 1 (16:39):
Anybody's ever gained weight by eating too much cottage.
Speaker 2 (16:42):
Cheese and gonna give over?
Speaker 1 (16:43):
I don't think that's possible, and think it's possible now,
might be, buddy, it might be all right? Does anybody
know of a rental system for a pool heater? Can
I rent pool heaters? You know.
Speaker 2 (16:58):
I am not a pool.
Speaker 1 (17:00):
Do you know who does your pool?
Speaker 2 (17:01):
Who does my pool?
Speaker 3 (17:02):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (17:03):
You know a guy named Dave? Dave? I really don't
know that, but let.
Speaker 1 (17:08):
Me ask you a question. Yes, whose pool is this?
It's Paradise Day Watson, Jeff Watson's so why it should
be plenty warm? Overnight temperatures make it cold, But remember,
a heater, hooters and a cover is the last thing
to It doesn't bother me, but for the younger kids,
they it makes them so tempos. Right now it is eighty,
(17:33):
but they like it to be eighty seven or eighty eight.
Speaker 2 (17:36):
You just need to suck it up. I do suck
it up, but I'm just for the kids. Here's what
I would do. I would just get some firewood and
just throw lit logs in there.
Speaker 1 (17:45):
Okay, I don't know, build the fires out of it, sure,
two three, nine, ten seventy Pat Sullivan and my friend
Fulton has a question for Pat. Hello Fulton, Hello John, Hello,
Hey Fulton.
Speaker 7 (18:00):
Today's my girlfa Bob's eighty fifth food.
Speaker 2 (18:05):
Is eighty five. Shout out to Bob.
Speaker 7 (18:10):
So anyways, that we've been getting some mari today and
they were saying that about or grass or something.
Speaker 3 (18:23):
Like.
Speaker 7 (18:23):
They keep coming over here, and in the mail paper
was in the middle for like grass or.
Speaker 2 (18:31):
Something, probably lawn care companies. I would imagined, thank you
to hear.
Speaker 1 (18:39):
From you, buddy, John.
Speaker 3 (18:41):
I forgot to tell you.
Speaker 1 (18:41):
Okay, I'm gonna be in singing in the rain performing.
Speaker 6 (18:52):
Let's see what's what's it called?
Speaker 2 (18:55):
Hey? I want you to I want you to learn.
Speaker 1 (18:57):
You need to learn this hold old me from the
stake there in Oh that's right, my favorite rain song, Fulton.
I want you to listen to this sometime. Orange Juice
Jones and The Rain nineteen eighty six. Listen to that. Okay,
request that tomorrow night orin Juice Jones The Rain nineteen
eighty six.
Speaker 6 (19:18):
Yep, and I've got my game Tomorrow's okay.
Speaker 1 (19:22):
See Robins, you're gonna love this song. Thank you, Fulton,
You're gonna love that song. I saw you and him
walk in and you ever heard that?
Speaker 2 (19:31):
No? Great?
Speaker 1 (19:32):
Were you guys Tomorrow morning Home Garden Show.
Speaker 2 (19:34):
You know what we were? We are in uh in
Carmel at Nature Spire, Nature Spire? What is this place?
You know? They do uh, they can do like nature stuff. Yeah,
well if you will, like want to do house plants,
like a wall, like a like a like a.
Speaker 1 (19:49):
Living wall, like the roof of a Caraba's Italian to
do all kinds of thing.
Speaker 2 (19:53):
I think they do containers for you that they'll come
out and do.
Speaker 1 (19:57):
Your ivy and weeds on my roof like the do
at that restaurant, the Italian restaurant. Is that Carrabas that
has the stuff on top of him. Yeah, that was
their tagline. We have a garden on our roof. That's
why we're so expensive. We've got a garden on our roof.
That's right, yeah, come match not I am we got
a run here, James nine o'clock, nine o'clock.
Speaker 2 (20:16):
Thanks, John.
Speaker 1 (20:19):
Meantime of the Andy Moore on a Motive Group hotline.
We'll get into that coming up in just a bit.
Bob Lovell of Indiana Sports Talk Night number one of
high school basketball, Hello, Bob, how are you high school football?
I should say, yeah, high school basketball comes up in November?
Speaker 2 (20:34):
Yeah, right now? All right? What do we start?
Speaker 1 (20:40):
Is it Center Grove and Warning in Central on the
east side, because that is outstanding. I sent a text
out to coach More a little bit earlier, incredibly happy.
He's still back in a part of it too, and
has another great team there with CG coming back to season,
doesn't he.
Speaker 4 (20:57):
You know, yeah, they are very good.
Speaker 3 (21:00):
The always great matchup between them and Warren Central starts out.
You talked about it being at Warren on this first
week conferences, you know, especially like six A. It's one
of those weeks where you're not in conference play yet
you have two games out of conference, and so you're
trying to schedule some great matchups. And that's a perfect
(21:22):
example of what's going on tonight. I mean, Brownsburg's playing
a team out of Maryland, I mean the Center Girl
Warren Central matchups a great one, Lawrence North, Lawrence Central HSSE.
Speaker 4 (21:33):
And Carol out of Fort Wayne. Fishers and Carmel. How
am I doing so far?
Speaker 3 (21:39):
Ben Davis Cathedral? Yeah, these are some great, great matchups
Cathedral again, Ben Davis. So it's a it's a special
night and tonight and next Friday night. You know, those
opportunities to play out of your conference before you get
into it.
Speaker 2 (21:54):
Well, let's start here.
Speaker 1 (21:55):
You mentioned this Carmel and Fishers, and there is a
familiar name lurking on the sideline of the Greyhounds this season,
that of Kevin right, Bob.
Speaker 3 (22:08):
It's great to have him back. I mean, you're talking
about coaching royalty in our state, with his father Bud
winning his coaching history and with Kevin state championships, he's
he is as good as it gets coaching wise. There's
no question. It's great that he's back in Indiana, a
(22:29):
chance to be back where he's had tremendous success, and
so yeah, it's it's fantastic. I mean, Fishers and Carmel's
a great matchup anyway, Yeah, but that added drama kind
of makes it even better.
Speaker 1 (22:40):
Yeah, Carmel three and seven, and you know that's not
gonna fly up there in Hamilton County at all. So
we'll see if Kevin Wright can infuse enthusiasm and winning
once again, as he has done so much in the
past in his career. I did want to ask you Brownsburg,
I think in some pole, I don't know how official
(23:01):
this is. Start the season. Whatever is ranked number one
in six A. Spaulding Maryland now Spaulding, it still makes
athletic wear. I know that in basketball Spaulding was the
name of Judge Smail's nephew grandson, I should say grandsigon.
(23:22):
Do we know anything about Spaulding from Maryland on their
high school football program at all?
Speaker 2 (23:27):
A stinking thing.
Speaker 3 (23:29):
Yeah, but still, I mean, it's an opportunity to see
some people you've never seen before go against a different system.
I'm sure they're an athletic team and a talented team,
and so that's kind of a fun way to start
your season. Now, it's kind of unique, and why not
do it?
Speaker 1 (23:47):
So we have a battle to start the season in
Larry Township, Lawrence North, Lawrence Central.
Speaker 4 (23:53):
Come ahead.
Speaker 1 (23:54):
I think we know about l N gonna be as
top notch as anybody, certainly in six A l in.
Speaker 4 (24:00):
The team that can win the championship. John, I mean
they really are.
Speaker 3 (24:02):
They were playing as well as anybody last year. At
the end of the season, a lot of those guys
are back Lawrence Central. I think it's still kind of
in that building stage with Nell in.
Speaker 4 (24:13):
This is for real. That's a big battle.
Speaker 3 (24:17):
Obviously, normally they don't play that first week, but I
think because of some schedule situations, it necessitated playing it
on opening night, So even more drama, if you will,
because of the battle for Lawrence Township.
Speaker 1 (24:33):
Bob Lovell of Indiana Sports Talk, as you covered on
so many different angles coming up later on tonight and
tomorrow night as well. Again, the first week of the
high school football season is officially under way. Later on
tonight Cathedral Ben Davis, So Cathedral moves back down to
five A. Ben Davis obviously still in six A and
(24:54):
that is a Friday night night number one matchup two.
Speaker 3 (24:58):
There's a lot history obviously between these two schools. Cathedral
is really really good. Ben Davis rng number ten in
six A, Cathedra ruing number two.
Speaker 2 (25:09):
And five A.
Speaker 3 (25:10):
I mean the rankings, I think they're accurate. I think
they're right on with with how good both teams are.
So what else do you need between these two schools.
You just know that it's going to be high level football.
Played this one out on the west side of town tonight.
Speaker 1 (25:26):
The introduction of Decatur Central, a champion in five A
year ago that moves up with the success factor ran
to six A and they get started out on the
road in Avon coming up this evening. Uh yeah, I.
Speaker 3 (25:40):
Think it's gonna I think the cater Central clearly can
compete in six as they're really really good obviously and
what they do. Coach Enwright has a lot of a
lot of guys back from last year's team, most notably
their quarterback, both posts and so look uh Avon coaching
change going through a little transition. But it's a Decatur
(26:01):
Central team that I think can go a long way
in the six A tournament this year.
Speaker 1 (26:05):
So Bob Level has Indiana Sports Talk for you. New
pal five A should be interesting because you got one
and two New pal in five A Cathedral in five
as previously mentioned, certainly, at some point in the season
when it really matters, these two teams are going to
meet up but you've got some heavy duty squads, maybe
(26:27):
not on the same level, but in that top five,
including Maryville, Bloomington South and East Central and five A,
Bob as well.
Speaker 3 (26:34):
Fiday is a really balanced class. John, you mentioned the
new pal Cathedral. Probably start out as your two best,
the two favorites, if you will. Bloomington South, as you
point out's good. East Central has a lot of guys back.
I would pay attention to Lafayette Jeff if I were people.
I think that they're you know, they're wide open kind
(26:56):
of offense. They're pretty good. Snyder has had great success
this Warsawchitard. It's the team people obviously always need to
pay attention to. So I just think it's a situation
where there's a whole lot excuse me, star four A.
It's just a lot of things going on. But five
A is as competitive as any class in the stage.
Speaker 1 (27:17):
Un all right, Bob, you mentioned Schatard. In four A,
starting out number one, they have a night number one
match up with Lafayette Jeff, which I believe in five
A is number six, So you get a challenge. Really,
both squads get a significant challenge in that matchup.
Speaker 3 (27:33):
Right out of the Gate. There's no question. I mean,
this is at Shtar. It should be. I'm sure it's
probably sold out already. As I mentioned lafayet Jeff as
the team can put the ball in the air and
make a lot of things happen.
Speaker 4 (27:47):
Satar is Shatar.
Speaker 3 (27:49):
They're as fundamentally sound as anybody and more have had
a tremendous amount of success at whatever class they're playing in,
and so talk about a great matchup, find out what
your team's all about on the very early on. That's
one of.
Speaker 2 (28:02):
Them, all right.
Speaker 1 (28:03):
I know this to be true because Ryan Wolfe, an
owner of the Dairy Queen and Martinsville, has suggested when
the Artis win half price Blizzards after the game number
six Martinsville. And we've talked about this before. Coach Douggars
team coming off a renaissance season that of a year ago,
going twelve and two. They get Bedford North Lawrence coming
(28:26):
up later on tonight, but in four a starting out
number six. How good are they compared to what we
witnessed a year ago.
Speaker 4 (28:34):
I think they're very good. I think obviously, you know
you've had some.
Speaker 3 (28:37):
Changes in personnel wise, but I think they're a solid
solid team tradition is what's big about them. This is
a very story program.
Speaker 4 (28:46):
As we all know.
Speaker 3 (28:47):
Coach Douggars has done a fantastic job and so in
success they had last year that I think they're they
have an opportunity to do a lot of the same
things that they did a year ago, and being a
will give them a challenge. But it's at Martin Zill
So mister wolf may be born some extra ice cream.
Speaker 1 (29:06):
Tonight, Ron Colly, how about the Royals and Dwanger tonight?
And for right down here on the south side, how
are you feeling about that one too?
Speaker 2 (29:16):
And really they get a home game do the Royals?
Speaker 1 (29:20):
And then you go on the road at Franklin Central
and you get Shtar coming up after that, So it's
gonna be no rest. You get started out tough and
it's going to be difficult.
Speaker 3 (29:29):
And Dwinger obviously again this first week, John gives teams
like Dwinger and others from the four Wayne area to
come down in the central part of the state and
place some teams they might not normally get a chance
to play and you know, find out some lessons about
their football team so that you have that dynamic that
part of it that makes this such a great matchup.
Speaker 4 (29:49):
And I think the Royals, you.
Speaker 3 (29:51):
Know, really trying to get back to where they were
two or three years ago, and.
Speaker 4 (29:55):
I think they've got a chance to do it. It's
a good Dwinger team.
Speaker 3 (29:58):
It's a typical type of Dinger team, fundamentally sound, some
athletic kids that can make some things happen. And so
it's a great opener, without question.
Speaker 1 (30:08):
I do dig this Danville and Gibson Southern on Night
number one. I don't know how you think. And you
get a familiar name, last name, especially Nick Hart of
Gibson Southern with all that incredible success, and that is
a Night number one challenge for both of those teams.
Speaker 4 (30:29):
Well, both of them are pretty good.
Speaker 3 (30:30):
I mean Jamie Kober's group had a great run a
year ago and you know, disappointed that they didn't get
a chance to play for the championship. A lot of
those guys are back. Gibson Southern, as you pointed out,
with coach Hart has made a tremendous run.
Speaker 4 (30:44):
They like to throw the ball.
Speaker 3 (30:46):
It's gonna be an interesting matchup in that sense because
these are two teams that have a lot of guys
back had great success a year ago, and again one
of those out of your area type of games that
makes it even more intriguing.
Speaker 1 (31:01):
Yeah, Gibson Southern, by the way, number three in Class
three A, Leures, Evansville, Memorial, Gibson Southern, Lawrenceburg, Evansville Modern
Day the top five when you get three, two and
then class so you start factoring in a lot more
of the Southern Indiana football programs. And one that has
(31:22):
been as successful and consistent as anybody in two way
would be that of the Miners of Lynton. They are
on the road at Corbin, Kentucky. Wow, Green County meets Kentucky.
Never has there been anything in my life more appropriate.
Speaker 4 (31:38):
You know, listen, they're.
Speaker 1 (31:40):
Probably all related. I would imagine Clinton Stockton.
Speaker 4 (31:44):
Is really really good.
Speaker 3 (31:45):
Coach Olivers group has played well. His son is one
of the best players in the state. Yeah, and uh,
you know, it's a tremendous way again to get out
geographically and find out a little bit about your your
football team, find out what you need to work on
before you find yourself in the middle of conference play.
And this is one of those perfect examples of it.
(32:06):
But I think the Miners I think I think they'll
make the definitive run for the championship. I think they're
that good.
Speaker 1 (32:14):
James, look up Corbyn is Corbin, Kentucky, somewhere between like
Lexington and on the way to Knoxville.
Speaker 2 (32:21):
Is that?
Speaker 1 (32:21):
Where do we know where Corbyn, Kentucky is because when
you travel by stagecoach it may take a while to
get down there. I'm thinking, James, whereas Corbyn, Kentucky. What
do the miners have to go from Green County?
Speaker 2 (32:34):
What's the Corbyn looks It looks like it's in the
southern part of the state. It's south of Lexington, south
of That's what I thought. It's in between London and Williamsburg.
Speaker 4 (32:44):
Well, I hope they left last night.
Speaker 1 (32:47):
Well here's a good part about it. Then everybody in
central Green County now around Lenton will be able to
go go down to Uh what's the place in Tennessee
where everybody goes, like Ollywood or whatever?
Speaker 2 (33:00):
That is? What is it?
Speaker 1 (33:01):
Yeah, they get to go down there afterwards too. That's
on the way right to Knoxville. I think Corbyn, Kentucky
right there. So Kentucky and Green County with a high
school meeting coming up later on tonight. Now I mentioned
this also a little bit earlier as well. You've got
a lot of factors in here, especially a team like
on the southeast side of Indianapolis, the success we have
(33:22):
seen from Lutheran, and a program that seems to always
kind of find it, especially athletically speaking, in whatever they're
doing in Addics. I think that's a really interesting matchup
later on tonight for Lutheran, Lutheran and Attics, as Lutheran
is two way number three to start the season.
Speaker 3 (33:41):
Bob, I think it's a great matchup in a sense
that these are two local teams. Lutheran had a many
in including me, thought they had a great chance to
play for a championship a year ago. Dave passes, teams
are always good. I think Addics has gotten better and
better with their foot ball team. Their basketball team, as
(34:01):
we know, is tremendous, but their football team is getting better.
I like the fact that they're challenging themselves with this
move to play luther and I think it's.
Speaker 4 (34:10):
Great for both schools.
Speaker 3 (34:11):
I think it's great for football in Indianapolis and Central Indiana,
and it's just it's one of those again, one of
those types of matchups you don't get a chance to
do in your schedule because of conference place, so you've
got one of these opportunities. I think it's cool that
most schools decided to do it.
Speaker 1 (34:29):
You always ask, and I'm going to beat you to
the punch. Here Eastern Green the Thunderbirds four and seven
a year ago, trying to improve on that likely not
going to happen, but they travel to number eight Springs Valley,
and the really good thing about it is win or lose,
you still go to the casino afterwards if you're a parent,
(34:52):
which is literally right across the road.
Speaker 2 (34:55):
That's glorious.
Speaker 3 (34:56):
Yes, I'm told by everybody down in that part of
the state the alley's really good.
Speaker 1 (35:01):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (35:01):
Maybe one of their better teams had a great run
a year ago. A lot of those guys are back
and they are they believe this team can make a
legitimate run for a one eight championship. That's the cool
thing about it.
Speaker 1 (35:14):
Sean Knightkirk is the first year head coach at Eastern Green.
I don't even know who that is. Well, you know
see where this guy was first year.
Speaker 4 (35:22):
I do not know. I'm embarrassed by that.
Speaker 1 (35:24):
No, it's okay because I don't even think John Harold does.
It says we don't know who this guy is either.
Speaker 3 (35:30):
I just think if Eastern Eastern Green's prominent alumnus would
step up finanily knowing help that I think it'd be
I think it'd be very worthwhile for everyone.
Speaker 1 (35:40):
I'm trying to get down there and help Jamie Hudson
the basketball coach, and be a part of their golf
outing coming up in a couple of weeks. But it's
always on that pesky Saturday or on the weekends really,
especially the weekends starting in September. That's tough on me,
Bob Level, just like the weekend nights are tough on you,
my brother.
Speaker 3 (36:01):
Weekend nights at the Level House. Yes, yeah, the My
my wife has learned for over fifty years not to
expect me, so you know how that goes.
Speaker 1 (36:13):
I know Springs Valley, North Knox, North Davies, Mitchell. How
about Eastern Pecan the Battle of Eastern's on September the nineteenth,
right there, that's nice.
Speaker 3 (36:24):
Nice master, nice massup Hey in North Central.
Speaker 2 (36:29):
That's a that's a heavy skechedule.
Speaker 4 (36:31):
That's a sketch.
Speaker 3 (36:32):
Don't know that's that you know about challenging yourself.
Speaker 4 (36:35):
Those the people they're.
Speaker 3 (36:37):
Playing pretty much winning records from a year ago, and
a lot of guys back.
Speaker 1 (36:42):
Yeah, I like, I feel bad Sean Sean Nykerk. It's
I clicked on his name here and it says, yeah,
hey JMV. We don't know who this guy is either.
Speaker 2 (36:54):
Come on, you got to bring that back, bring back
the glory.
Speaker 1 (36:58):
There you go, the glory the Eastern Thunderbirds. All right,
you hit the airwaves tonight tomorrow night? What time again,
Bob nine?
Speaker 3 (37:05):
Midnight year number what thirty two?
Speaker 4 (37:10):
Who's counting?
Speaker 2 (37:10):
My friend?
Speaker 1 (37:11):
You are incredible. Do we have any we have any
pre show dinner plans tonight down in Franklin.
Speaker 3 (37:18):
You know what, John, The free show plan is. We
go on Friday nights. This is living in a small town.
Speaker 4 (37:26):
You can appreciate it.
Speaker 2 (37:27):
Yeah, we go to.
Speaker 3 (37:29):
The American Legion and they have open to the public
on Friday night, and we know the cooks and everybody.
Speaker 4 (37:36):
So I'll go down and grab that and come home
and eat with my wife.
Speaker 3 (37:40):
And our grandson's here.
Speaker 4 (37:42):
We may try to convince him to stick around for dinner. Nice,
have a little bit of fun.
Speaker 1 (37:45):
Yeah, that's a good time. What do they serve with
the American legion down there?
Speaker 3 (37:49):
Never know, it's just you know, cook, Yeah, pretty much.
Speaker 1 (37:57):
They got any Bengo play or anything like that too
about not.
Speaker 4 (38:01):
While I'm there, No, but it's it's the food's great.
People are great.
Speaker 3 (38:04):
So that's that's a big time night for the Lovell
family here in Franklin.
Speaker 2 (38:09):
My brother, we love you. You know that, I love you.
I love the show.
Speaker 1 (38:13):
And uh, just a tremendous job as usual and we'll
we'll do it every week and see what happens coming
up later on tonight and again your hub of information
across the state of Indiana for night number one of
high school football. Bob Lovell and Indiana sports talker.
Speaker 2 (38:28):
Thanks Bob, have a great weekend.
Speaker 4 (38:30):
Thanks for calling me.
Speaker 1 (38:31):
Bob Lovell from the Andy Moore Auto Motive Group Potline.
He has staked out in Lafayette, Indiana and already really
sick of the conversation going on right here. From Golden
Black Illustrated. Tom Deanhard joins us. Hello, Tommy D.
Speaker 6 (38:48):
West Loftad Indiana, John west Lofaiette.
Speaker 1 (38:51):
Wes Lofayete, Indiana. Now, what's the KFC up there?
Speaker 2 (38:54):
Look like?
Speaker 5 (38:54):
Is it that bad?
Speaker 6 (38:56):
You know what? You have me thinking it was the
A and W long John Silbers was a combo.
Speaker 2 (39:00):
Yeah that's not good either.
Speaker 6 (39:02):
Yeah, that's not good. I'm still trying to get over
the New Coke fiasco from nineteen eighty five.
Speaker 2 (39:07):
Me too.
Speaker 1 (39:09):
I remember the day that that happened, and I knew
it was going to go wrong because we were playing. Seriously,
we're playing a high school baseball game and place at
Indiana and we roll up there and they don't have
an outfield fence, so to hit a home run, you
just hit it out in the weeds like we did
in a whiffleball.
Speaker 6 (39:27):
Oh yeah, I remember that.
Speaker 2 (39:30):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (39:31):
I thought, there's nothing going to be right on this
day if they don't have a fence to hit a
home run over.
Speaker 6 (39:37):
So I got to ask you the one thing, KFC
on I think they de serve it anymore. But there's
a place called Lee's Chicken. They have these chicken liver dinners,
chicken livers fry with mashed potato's, a biscuit, grave a
little bit of co slow. It's outstanding.
Speaker 1 (39:52):
You were the only person in the world that's ever
suggested chicken livers are good you don't.
Speaker 6 (39:59):
Seem too often. It's kind of nice guy. Different tastes,
different textures. Not for everybody, I know.
Speaker 1 (40:04):
I will say this. When they used to offer chicken littles,
that was the blank right there. That's good stuff. And
then I don't think they offer original recipe an extra
crispy anymore. That's a major malfunction. That's a flaw right there.
Speaker 2 (40:17):
You can't.
Speaker 1 (40:18):
You've got to have that option up there. Not everybody
wants to. What do you do like just somewhere in between? Now,
I guess original crispy.
Speaker 6 (40:28):
You guys have your art, your treatures, fish and chips
still down there.
Speaker 2 (40:31):
Nah, they've been going for a while, but I was
digging on them.
Speaker 4 (40:33):
Man.
Speaker 1 (40:34):
Let me tell you that. You know, it's funny too.
In a world where the whole world basically has been
in the past ten or so years, absolutely in love
with the chicken sandwich, and you are the inventor of
chicken and you have to close a place five minutes
after you open it.
Speaker 2 (40:50):
That's not good, you know.
Speaker 6 (40:54):
I guess I didn't in such peril, And I know
you've got me worried.
Speaker 2 (40:57):
No, I'm worried about it.
Speaker 1 (40:58):
I think it's got to do with them. I think
once they built that place down in Louisville and hired
Pat Kelsey, than all went to Helen a Hemp.
Speaker 2 (41:04):
No, I don't know, I'm just making.
Speaker 6 (41:05):
That bad Louisville basketball is killing him.
Speaker 1 (41:08):
Yeah, So I think it's a struggle. Speaking a struggle,
I don't want to suggest it's a it's a struggle.
Do you feel like do you kind of feel like
in West Lofeiet this season you're paying a penance for
what the basketball team's going to do all in all
with the football program this year? Is that's kind of
(41:29):
I mean, I guess that's what a rebuild mode feels like.
Speaker 2 (41:33):
Right.
Speaker 6 (41:34):
Yeah, it's been like a one to eighty with what
where that hoop team's been? Where football has been. But
the hope obviously is always eternal here John, always eternal
and soon, my friend Soon August thirtieth, the Mighty Ball
State Cardinals were matriculate to West Lofty in Indiana for
a high new kickoff my friend. Two first year coaches.
Speaker 4 (41:55):
Get this.
Speaker 6 (41:55):
I don't know if you saw my story this week,
but the Ball State head coach is a pretty great
yeah who didn't play football perdue it's a great story.
He just dropped his son off here at campus. He's
at freshman engineering student. A great guy to talk to,
Mike Rremovich and the coach you they call him, but
a great guy and just kind of a fun storyline
for the opener.
Speaker 1 (42:15):
That's pretty awesome right there. I mean, and I think
I think maybe the program is going to need you
would predict some really enjoyable storylines, right and and what's
been the fan reaction up there to what they believe
and is predicted to be forthcoming in West Lothiet with
the football program this year?
Speaker 6 (42:34):
You know, I think expectations are tapered. I think everybody
just glad the page got turned, right. Yeah, the last
two years were just an utter abomination. And that's putting
it mildly, especially last year one and eleven. Oh by
the way, you know, pretty's writing an eleven game losing
streak is twenty twenty five dollars, So the page had
to be turned. They got a coach in Barry Odam,
(42:57):
who is we're talking about one eighties from the former
coach in a lot of ways, tough minded, uh, a
proven head coach and buttoned up. I think I think
he's gonna have a much better staff, So there's hope.
I'm not sure how good the talent is, but you know,
three four wins maybe, And just don't get embarrassed. Don't
get b john sixty six to nothing by your rival.
(43:17):
Don't lose sixty six to seven Notre Dame, don't lose
fifty two to six at Wisconsin. Don't get shut out
for you to nothing by Penn State. Just just be respectable,
be competitive, and more than anything, just at least be
good and competitive against your peer programs.
Speaker 1 (43:33):
Especially so Tom Deanhard of Golden Black illustrated just about
ready to embark on yet another Purdue football season in
West Lofe. Get the folks out there, some players to watch,
some highlights, some level of interest individually speaking on that team,
Tommy d.
Speaker 6 (43:52):
That way you start right, you know, I think, uh,
the offensive line and they've kidis Indiana. Joey Tana he
was here last year, former Nord Lame player. He had
to give up football. I thought he was never gonna
play football again. Got in a car crash and Notre
Dame can cuffed. Uh, but he's back, and uh, some
(44:13):
people on staff think he's the best player on the
team regardless of positions of Joey Tonona number seventy nine
and number one left tackle. They have a Michael Jackson John,
they have a Michael Jackson on the roster.
Speaker 2 (44:23):
Oh really, a transfer.
Speaker 6 (44:25):
From Georgia wide receiver. He looks like he's gonna be
wide giver number one.
Speaker 2 (44:29):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (44:30):
And of course Devin Macaby from from your neck of
the woods, so to speak, Boonville, Indiana. Uh, he's back.
They have another Southern Indiana running back from Castle High School, Chandler, Indiana.
Do you know where that is?
Speaker 1 (44:42):
No, Yeah, that's down what that's Newburg. That's Warwick County.
I think that's where they just had that brawl when
the Lieutenant governor was down there speaking.
Speaker 6 (44:52):
Antonio Harris. He's a kid that like a lot.
Speaker 2 (44:54):
Yeah, then that may be an.
Speaker 6 (44:56):
Interest to a guy like you. A Southern Indiana backfield
nomination in the West LOFE. You had Devin Dockaby and
Antonio Harris. How about that.
Speaker 2 (45:04):
Who's the star? Who's the starting quarterback?
Speaker 6 (45:07):
It's gonna be Ryan Brown. He just named Ryan Brown
the starting quarterback on Thursday in the real shock there.
You know he was here frans Or North Carolina for
spring football, got coached by Belichick. Now he's back. He
won the job, and they've got a former Indiana State
sycamore here. My friend, Well, he may want to buy,
he may want to buy jersey number seventy to this
(45:27):
gigantic offensive tack with guy's about to six foot eight
three and thirty pounds.
Speaker 1 (45:31):
Is that Jude mccoskey, Yeah, yeah.
Speaker 6 (45:33):
Sam, Yes, the monolith, the monolithic. I'd like to say,
look at the monoliths?
Speaker 2 (45:40):
No will I have no.
Speaker 1 (45:41):
I don't know if I could even attempt to spell
it to look it up properly. Hey, you mentioned a
little bit more on Ryan Brown, who was named the
starting quarterback. What yesterday I think is what you said, right?
Was it yesterday?
Speaker 5 (45:53):
Yeah?
Speaker 6 (45:53):
Thursday? On Thursday, very young came over after practice unannounced,
but didn't think he's going to talk that day, and
he that what he wanted to do, just get quick
where Hey running rounds are a guy, and I think it
was everybody knew he was going to be the guy.
And you know he's one of those he's more of
an intangibles guy. He's very fast six before well like kid,
(46:14):
and we'll see how he develops. I think he's gonna
have some solid the talent around him as well, which
is gonna help.
Speaker 2 (46:20):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (46:20):
I was just looking up Michael Jackson the third right
here a wide receiver. You're talking from Georgia. Now he
was his hometown's Las Vegas. Is there an odeum connection there?
Speaker 6 (46:32):
There? He was at USC, he was a USC where
we played Georgia USC.
Speaker 2 (46:37):
But I think his hometown was Vegas.
Speaker 1 (46:39):
I didn't know. There may be some ODEMM or Friends
of Odham connection there maybe.
Speaker 6 (46:43):
Oh yeah, there's always using connections with these guys. Hey, hey,
another great story for your listeners. Ethan Trent. Of course,
Tyler Trant's younger brother, Ethan Trent. He was he was
a chubby kid pushing Tyler Trent's wheelchair around way back
in two thousand eighteen. And Ethan Trent has grown into
a full grown man and that's great. He's going to start.
(47:07):
He's going to start probably right Guard number seventy six
is a great person and the staff loves Sam and
he's going to be a guy on every TV game
they're focusing on, you know, Ethan Trent. You know, they
go through the whole Tyler Trend's story. But just a
whole other chapter. That's Tyler Tren's story that really captivated
the nation a few years.
Speaker 1 (47:24):
Ago, six two two ninety five.
Speaker 6 (47:28):
Ethan big turn right there, nice guy Carmel, Indiana.
Speaker 1 (47:32):
Yeah, so good, good local story. And I'm sure that'll
be talked about a great deal. Well, we'll uh, we'll
leave it up to those storylines. And I would think
that in this case, in closing here Tommy d that
any headway is going to be met with favorable enthusiasm
from a fan base that was just absolutely, dreadfully sick
(47:54):
and tired of it a year ago.
Speaker 6 (47:56):
Right, Yeah, you know they stowed up to spy all
of them Israel last year, took. I think they should
show out again here. It's a huge school. They got
to win their first two games. You hate to say
those are must wins, but there must wins Fall State
and Southern Illinois and then John USC the Mighty Trojans
come to West Afia. That could be kind of a
fun game. It produced two and zero. Here comes USC
(48:19):
for a three thirty kickoff in Ross Stadium, NBC. It
could be a fun atmosphere, probably be a sellout and
who knows, you know, USC Lincoln Riley. He's on a
bit of a hot seat out there. And anytime those
West Coast teams come east, things can get kind of
interesting too. So we'll see where where they go. But
those first two are huge for pretty obviously.
Speaker 1 (48:39):
Yeah, and then you'll get to the dialogue sooner rather
than later with the basketball team that Oh yeah, they're
gonna start the season rate number one.
Speaker 6 (48:49):
I think they will. I think they will be. The
dialogue never ruins. You know that they're talking about Oscar
Kluff now and Omar Mayor as we speak, boy, as
you can imagine, they're already going off the hook for
Boiler Mecher.
Speaker 1 (49:00):
Basketball man Matt Painter sent me, uh a commercial with
Kenny Powers and Stevie Zanowski.
Speaker 2 (49:08):
The other day, like randomly sent this to me. I go,
that's awesome.
Speaker 1 (49:17):
Another reason to like him as much as we like him.
Speaker 6 (49:19):
Yes, you guys think that to me, I've just been
watching a lot of Candy Powers.
Speaker 1 (49:23):
Oh it's just isn't that just great stuff? That cookout
at the Principal Cutler's cookout. When Cutler got drunk, that
stripper hit Kenny Powers, his face got dumped in that
dip on the table.
Speaker 6 (49:39):
Once man I love I love the season where he's
where he's playing the Myrtle Beach is a fun season.
Speaker 2 (49:46):
Yeah, so, oh what is it? Mexico? Oh s some
good stuff.
Speaker 1 (49:51):
The best scene of all time and I think Matt
agrees with me on this. The best scene of all
time was Kenny and Stevie in jail in Mexico, Co.
And Stevie couldn't know he had to go to the
bathroom in the middle of the jail. Say oh, my goodness.
Speaker 2 (50:06):
Stop blatzing me. Stop blatching me.
Speaker 6 (50:08):
Oh it's great, And I'm sure you've seen Vice principles.
Speaker 5 (50:11):
Right.
Speaker 4 (50:14):
I have.
Speaker 2 (50:14):
Oh, yes, I have seen that. Yes, that is really
good too.
Speaker 6 (50:18):
Yeah, just a lot of fun. But yeah, good laughs
and always a good distraction to make me laugh before
I go to bed at night.
Speaker 1 (50:25):
Yet, my brother, we'll be in touch a lot this season,
Dury football and basketball. Tommy, do you have a great weekend?
Speaker 6 (50:31):
I appreciate it, budyd be.
Speaker 1 (50:32):
Good, Tom Dinard Golden Black illustrated and they anymore Automotive
Group potline. Hopefully he has made reservations at our table
for me and his lovely wife Susie later on this
evening so they can wash me drink fifteen beers voice
(50:54):
of the Who's just Don Fisher? Are those reservations etched
in stone? Or are you going to go watch the
kid coach a little bit tonight?
Speaker 5 (51:02):
Unfortunately for you, we are going to go watch the
kid coach back.
Speaker 1 (51:05):
Football, son of a gun of my Where Who am
I going? Nobody else will watch me drink fifteen beers
in front of him?
Speaker 2 (51:14):
Only you guys.
Speaker 5 (51:18):
Well, you know what, when he's coaching football and I
got a chance to go see him, I got to
do that.
Speaker 4 (51:24):
You know what I mean?
Speaker 2 (51:25):
You do?
Speaker 1 (51:26):
Who do the Stangs have tonight? Is it on the
field of hell? The red field tonight?
Speaker 5 (51:31):
They are on the red field tonight and they're playing Mitchell?
Speaker 1 (51:35):
Oh wow, Well they should beat them by half a hundred.
Speaker 5 (51:39):
I know, but here's the problem with that. You know
that the Stangs have struggled a little bit the last
couple of years under the tutelage of one Scott Fisher.
But this ought to be the year that that starts
to turn around. And at this point in time, I've
(52:00):
warned him that if you don't get it done in
year three, you may be a drub hole.
Speaker 1 (52:05):
Oh no, you didn't, You had that conversation U man.
Speaker 5 (52:14):
I mean they're they're they're gonna, they're gonna win some
games this year. I know that there. They had a
bunch of southo woars last year that have beated up
a little bit. And those kids played a lot last
year of Souphomores and they got pounded around. I know
that they're tired of being pounded around. So we're gonna
see if this team isn't a lot better after going
through strength and conditioning in the offseason. And uh, obviously, uh,
(52:38):
I think Scott has got I think he's got a
bunch of kids that really have bought into the program
and and want to do well. And I think they
probably will turn start to turn around this year.
Speaker 1 (52:48):
Voice of the Hoosiers Don Fisher, he's on his way
to Ellisville, so say hello to him if you're down
there on the field of Hell, the red field at
Edgewood coming up later on.
Speaker 2 (52:58):
I will tell you this.
Speaker 1 (53:00):
Mitchell hasn't won a football game since the bus making
company left town. So I think you're all good.
Speaker 4 (53:08):
I think I think they are too.
Speaker 5 (53:09):
I think they'll win tonight. I don't want to put
Mitchell that because I have no idea how good they
might be after a couple of bad seasons that they've had.
That's the only team that Scott's team is able to beat.
So so, I mean, they did beat two teams the
first year in this and but they had to They
(53:30):
had to forfeit the Mitchell game the first year he
was here because they had an ineligible player that played
that game and they didn't know it until the season ended,
and so they had to forfeit that win. Uh So
that meant that they only won one game that first year.
And now, of course they won I think three, two
or three last year, but this year ought to be
(53:50):
the turnaround. They ought to probably at least win five.
And if they don't do that, like I said before,
I've started to tell him that if you can't get
if you can't get to that numbering, maybe rebel boy.
Speaker 1 (54:02):
I explained this with my high school Eastern Green And
I love how they schedule Springs Valley out of the
gate because you can lose by fifty and then go
gamble at the casino right across the road, which is
a plus for everybody that goes down there. But hey,
now those are hard jobs, man, those are hard jobs
and like what Owen Valley did the year before last,
(54:23):
and I think that guy is now an avon.
Speaker 2 (54:26):
I believe that to be the case.
Speaker 1 (54:28):
But yeah, I mean, those those are you have to
take advantage of those seasons because it is really tough
to consistently put that together down there, and if you can,
it's even more special to those folks in and around
that area.
Speaker 2 (54:42):
It really is.
Speaker 5 (54:43):
That's exactly right. And I'll tell you Scott will tell
you this too, that there's no question of the people
at Ellensville have really rallied around his program believe that
they're going to get it turned around. Scott started a
booster club when he first got here, and those people
(55:04):
are all bought in and the kids are bought in too.
It's it's gonna be a good program. There's no doubt
in my mind about that, because I know Scott's a
good football coach and always has been. And there's a
little question that will get turned around. It's just a
matter of time. And obviously, this from my perspective, this
would be the year to get it started because he's
(55:25):
got a bunch of kids that played as sophomores last
year and they're now juniors and they've gotten bigger and stronger.
They should be able to compete for sure.
Speaker 1 (55:33):
And then yeah, the dynamic with the parents, hopefully you
have good parents, which I think is as important nowadays
as it ever has been. Now is our good friend
Lance Ringler on the school board down there.
Speaker 5 (55:50):
You know, I don't know anybody on the school board.
Scott would probably tell me that I probably need to
meet some people. He has a.
Speaker 1 (56:00):
Little more influence on his Yeah, there's no doubt.
Speaker 5 (56:05):
I'm not about to get it. I'm not about to
get involved in any politics.
Speaker 1 (56:08):
Just so you're there, well, I like my We talked
about my daughter before she's fifteen and goes to Sana
Grove and plays basketball, and I refuse to get involved.
Speaker 2 (56:18):
Like if she.
Speaker 1 (56:19):
Needs if they're raising money and she needs some money raised,
I'll do that. But as far as I said, this
is all you all the time, I don't care. I mean,
I care, you know what I mean. But I'm not
getting involved in it. So I'm not I mean again,
I'm not getting involved with a bunch of jack assery.
So I'll watch and go and you know, if you
(56:39):
need me, if you need me for your support, I'm there.
But this is all up to you, not me. I'm
not playing.
Speaker 5 (56:46):
Exactly, Yeah, exactly exactly.
Speaker 2 (56:48):
How that it is?
Speaker 1 (56:49):
No, I thought about Ringler because he had one hell
of a TikTok video I saw earlier today. I thought
I didn't know if I was impressed or embarrassed for him,
our mutual friend Lance Ringler TikTok video.
Speaker 5 (57:03):
What's she doing? What she doing?
Speaker 1 (57:05):
He and you know, his wife, Missy Arthur, is one
of the greatest golf female golfers in the state of
Indiana ever, I mean, just a phenomenal golfers.
Speaker 2 (57:14):
I'm sure that you know.
Speaker 1 (57:16):
I think his son and his wife and they did
a take off of Lover Boys Love and every minute
of it on TikTok, and I think he put more
time and effort into that than he has in like
three years of officiating.
Speaker 5 (57:35):
I'm sure he is really happy with you making that statement.
Speaker 2 (57:42):
Wow, man, that took a while.
Speaker 1 (57:44):
Maybe if you put that much effort in, you know,
to what you're doing officiating, then we may have something. Actually,
he's a good dude, so as you can tell by
me describing. Hey, So we're getting closer and closer to
the start of the season. So is it going to
flow the the Merchants field at Memorial Stadium.
Speaker 2 (58:04):
Is that going to flow off the tongue?
Speaker 5 (58:06):
Merchants bank Field? That's question that'll flow off my tongue
because that man is giving him a lot of money
for a long time.
Speaker 1 (58:15):
Oh what's the price tag? Don you have the figure?
Speaker 5 (58:18):
I believe it's reported fifty million over I don't know
what the time span is, but over fifty million over
like maybe ten to fifteen or twenty years. I don't
know what it is exactly, but yeah, it's a it's
a significant chunk of change. That's why it's going to
be Merchants bank Field for the a long long time.
Speaker 1 (58:38):
I'm surprised you because you're such just a legacy, historic
legacy there that you're not sponsored?
Speaker 2 (58:45):
How are you not sponsored?
Speaker 5 (58:49):
Look, man, you know I'm just glad to have a job,
So don't throw me up.
Speaker 1 (58:54):
No, the Voice of the Hoosier Don Fisher is brought
to you by I'm giving somebody like there is some
sales dork right now that's going, Oh that's a great
idea and writing that down, I guarantee it.
Speaker 5 (59:11):
Yeah, let's try to keep me out of that help radio.
Speaker 1 (59:15):
Well, that's a good chunk of change. And you know,
it is a different invite. There was a point in
time I remember, Don you and I would be sitting
here for five ten minutes going on. I can't believe
they're doing this, But you sponsor anything and everything now
because financewers are so much a part of the equation.
That's a part of winning. That's just the way that
(59:36):
it is.
Speaker 5 (59:38):
That's exactly right. And Mike Tebrie, who is the chairman
of Merchants Bank in Indianapolis, said it's a phenomenal company.
They are. You know, when I first came to Indiana
in nineteen seventy three, I became My bank was Merchants
Burchans Bank, and they had the frog and all that
(01:00:01):
kind of stuff. But they got out of they sold
it to National City I think it was, and then
I stayed with National City after Merchants and then I
think they went to PNC. I'm not sure that's the
correct or Jeckry or not. Anyway, long story short, Mike
Petrie is the chairman of Merchants Bank, and he and
(01:00:22):
his organization decided to pony up this money. Mike's always
been a huge IU guy and he does tremendous work,
There's no question about that. I give each other a
lot of crap about golf and how many strokes he's
going to get, all this kind of stuff, but we
have so much fun with him, and he's just a
(01:00:43):
novel person on top of that, and he's a huge
IU person and one of those people that loves Indiana
University and revers it. And obviously he's the guy and
his group are the people that put this package together,
along with the Shott Dolson, the athletic director, and a
lot of other people were involved in Kevin Van Roy
(01:01:06):
of the Varsity Club and obviously Pam Wooden, the president
of IU. So these people went to work, they got
it worked out and the signage took place yesterday I
think it was, and they had a big press conference today.
Speaker 1 (01:01:20):
That's great. And I remember Merchants. If you were a
part of Merchants for a long time, you had a
green machine card back in the day, didn't you.
Speaker 5 (01:01:28):
That's exactly right, I did. I did.
Speaker 2 (01:01:31):
So that it's still agreed.
Speaker 5 (01:01:33):
They still have the they still have the frog is there. Yeah,
there is their mascot, you know, and the frog was
there today at the Prescott.
Speaker 1 (01:01:42):
Well, the frog was there, uh yeah, boying, yeah, hopping
hopping the merchants then, well, it used to be such
a significant part of the television broadcast too, I mean
it was. It was right there front and center, back
of the day with with farm, Bula Insurance and MX
Coal Company as well, if you remember here locally.
Speaker 5 (01:02:02):
So yeah, yep, exactly, exactly right.
Speaker 1 (01:02:06):
Good stuff and stuff. That is just the world in
which we live. Also, the world done on which we
live is a lot of new faces in a place
that had a great deal of success a year ago.
We get closer and closer to the start of the
IU football season. From what you've witnessed in practice since
your return from Puerto Rico, what's standing out to you
(01:02:26):
as of late in preparation for the start.
Speaker 5 (01:02:30):
Well, I think the one thing that I've seen a
number of practices, and I think the one thing that
sticks in my mind here at the outset is that
we have maybe one of the better offensive lines that
we've ever had in Indiana in terms of depth and
a quality of player. I think they've got a solid
(01:02:50):
offensive line and a good offensive line maybe for the
first time since the Bill Mallory era. If you know
what I'm talking about, And honestly, that's saying something because
we've had a few good offensive lines since that era.
But I think this is probably one of the best
that Indiana's had in a while, and they're gonna need
(01:03:12):
that because defenses have gotten more you know, there are
more quality defenses in Big Ten play. Then you're gonna
see most places at most conferences and it's gonna be
a challenge. But I do think that this offensive line
is really good. I think Indiana's defense is going to
be really good under Brian Haynes, who's to Ben the
(01:03:34):
coordinator forever under sig and I do think that they're
gonna be good. But I think they've got a couple
of question marks in the defensive line this year that
until we see them play and they and they, I
don't think the first three games are gonna tell us
a great deal in that regard, because I think Indiana
is just better than the three teams that they'll face,
(01:03:54):
but it'll give us an idea of what to look
for in that regard. That's that's the one area I
think to this a little bit of a question mark.
And it's not the ext it's not the guys at
the defensive end spots. It's the guys in the interior
that are new there, and I think they've got a
couple of really quality players there, But will they be
as good as what we saw last year with CJ.
(01:04:16):
West and James Carpenter are on that defensive line and
those two guys are gone, So these guys will have
to prove themselves.
Speaker 1 (01:04:23):
Don Fisher, voice of the Hoosiers, on his way to
Ellensville for Edgewood and their opener at home against Mitchell.
He's on the Andy Moore Automotive Group hootline. I don't
think we've talked too much about the wide receiver. Certainly
we focused in on Mendoza and how he looks coming
from cal and you're going to be under center for
the Signetti and the Hoosiers this season, but we'll want
this wide receiver.
Speaker 2 (01:04:43):
He got guys back, talented guys back.
Speaker 1 (01:04:45):
How does it compare to what we witnessed a year
ago with that group that call passes from Curtis Rourke.
Speaker 5 (01:04:52):
I think the wide receiving corps, like last year, is
probably the deepest position group on the football field for Indiana.
Elijasa wraps back he is tremendous Omar Cooper's back. He
is tremendous. DJ Williams, who has not played very much
in his career in Indiana because he's had injury issues,
(01:05:13):
but he is as healthy as he has been in
his career at IU, and he is a special player
if he is able to stay healthy. And he's a
big receiver. I think he's six two sixty three someplace
in that neighborhood, has really good hands, and if he
stays healthy, then you've got those three guys. You've got
a kid named Lebron Bond who I've been really impressed with.
(01:05:36):
He is a true freshman. And this kid is not
very big, but he is tough. He makes all the catches.
He does a tremendous job of running with the football
after he catches it. For a freshman, I think he's
really going to help him. I've got a kid named
Charlie Becker who I think is a Richard sophomore this year.
He's one of the fastest kids on the team. He's
(01:05:59):
about six three someplace in that neighborhood as well, another
tall receiver there. And they've got other guys too. Of
the tight end r Noah Kowski as a kid from
Northern Illinois that they are really high on at the
tight end spot, who's a good receiver. He's kind of
like Zach Horton was last year, kind of a guy
(01:06:19):
that's a blue guy around that tight end position that
helps block and can catch the football. So, honestly, they've
got all the tools they really do. In my opinion,
it's just a matter of getting out there playing against
who they're going to play against, and the schedule as
much tougher as we know. And again, those first three
(01:06:40):
games they'll probably try to work out the kinks and
so on and so forth, like all teams do in
their first few games of the season, and then the
real test will come when they play Illinois that first
game in Big Ten Conference play. So there's still a
lot of question marks in the sense of how good
this team might be. I have a gut feeling that
(01:07:01):
Sig believes that this team is going to be very good,
and and that context alone, if he if he's confident,
then I'm going to be pretty confident too. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:07:11):
Uh, don Fisher with us. Are you guys gonna go
to the village in after the game?
Speaker 5 (01:07:16):
Uh? Probably not? Not tonight. I don't think so. Actually,
where am I at here? I'm gonna I think I'm
gonna go down and have a hamburger. Hold. I was like,
I got to ask a question here. Look, ye, who's
your bar and grill?
Speaker 1 (01:07:33):
The Who's your Who's your bar and grill?
Speaker 2 (01:07:36):
Yep? All right? Where the hell is this in Ellisville?
Speaker 5 (01:07:41):
Yep? It's right next to the I G A. You
know where the I G A is?
Speaker 3 (01:07:45):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (01:07:45):
Oh, I know exactly where you are, right. Oh yeah,
you're right there in the middle of it all. Yeah,
the who's your Bar and Hell? I thought maybe you
would just slide by Kenny's Tavern?
Speaker 2 (01:07:57):
You might. Yeah, yeah.
Speaker 5 (01:07:59):
I don't know all the places in Ellisville like you do.
Speaker 1 (01:08:03):
The last time I went to that may had my
ass whipt.
Speaker 5 (01:08:05):
I'm not sure, but that doesn't sound like a place
I am going to frequent it.
Speaker 1 (01:08:14):
The who's your bar and grill? Well, you're going in right? Well,
tell us how the food is there. It may not
be our table and our place, but tell us how
the Who's your Bar and grill?
Speaker 5 (01:08:23):
Is?
Speaker 2 (01:08:23):
Next week? Okay?
Speaker 5 (01:08:25):
Actually I think it's a pretty good place. My son
took me in there last year. I think one time.
I think it's the name. I couldn't remember the name
of it until I turned around and looked at the
signo behind my back. So at any rate, I know
they have a pretty good burger. I know that for sure.
That's why I'm going to order.
Speaker 1 (01:08:42):
Well, if you're choosing that over we Willie's West. They're
in Richland Plaza. It's a big deal, for sure.
Speaker 5 (01:08:49):
I understand, I understand.
Speaker 1 (01:08:51):
You got it all right, Hey, the best of luck
to Scott. You guys have a great night, and when
you're ready to hit back to our table, I'm right
there with you. Well, I appreciate that, John, and we
will definitely do it again here.
Speaker 5 (01:09:03):
Charlotte, you got it.
Speaker 2 (01:09:04):
You guys have a great night.
Speaker 4 (01:09:06):
Shit, but
