Speaker 1 (00:00):
On the Andy More Automotive Group hotline. Our birthday guy
has a plane to catch. I can hear him right now,
rolling hot to catch that plane. Happy Birthday to the
Voice of the Hoosiers, Don Fisher. I'm not going to
ask his age because I know this dude looks like
he's thirty, so by God he is thirty.
Speaker 2 (00:17):
The Voice of the Hoosiers joins us. Now, Happy birthday, Don.
Speaker 3 (00:21):
Well, I appreciate that, John, Thank you very much.
Speaker 4 (00:25):
I'm on the I sixty nine speedway headed to Bloomington.
Speaker 3 (00:30):
And trying not to get killed by this traffic.
Speaker 1 (00:36):
Well, you know, the further you get down on the
redneck autumn in southern Indiana, the worst the drivers are.
Speaker 2 (00:43):
You realize that, right.
Speaker 3 (00:46):
All I know is.
Speaker 4 (00:48):
Since I sixty nine has been mixed and we've been
able to frequent it with our passage to Bloomington, it
has gotten a lot faster than I've ever anticipated.
Speaker 1 (01:00):
Yeah, as long as done and I know you you
know this, now, as long as you get sidestep that
Barney Fife guy that sits in the weeds right there
beneath the overpass next to Martinsville High School, you're all good.
Speaker 3 (01:16):
Well, I know they sit there.
Speaker 2 (01:18):
Trust me, they certainly certainly do. So Don's on his way.
Speaker 1 (01:25):
Die of a City and the broadcast coming up tomorrow.
But assuming two thirty your coverage begins and three point
thirty is that kick from Iowa City coming up tomorrow?
This is the first road test, and really a significant
road test. It's always a tough place to play, no
matter what type of team you have.
Speaker 2 (01:42):
And in Iowa the Hawkey's done.
Speaker 1 (01:44):
It seems like they have the type of team that
that who's your fans should be familiar with coming up tomorrow.
Speaker 4 (01:52):
Well, there's no question it's a we haven't played. It's
an interesting job. We haven't played Iowa but three times
in the last ten years, and the last time was
believe it, twenty.
Speaker 3 (02:04):
One, and we lost that ball game.
Speaker 4 (02:07):
That was if you remember the year everybody thought Indiana
was going to really come on.
Speaker 3 (02:12):
And start playing great football and Michael.
Speaker 4 (02:14):
Pennix was in his heyday at that point. And Michael Pennix,
I guess the best way to put it was, had
a really tough day and yeah, he threw an interception.
He threw an interception on the first series of the ballgame,
and from there it was down the tubes, as was
the season at that point, so it was not pretty,
(02:38):
but nevertheless, Indiana lost that ball game. And now they
face a Kirk Ferrin's coach team that we can expect
to be really tough.
Speaker 1 (02:46):
They put you on the grind, don I mean, that's historically,
I think been the proposition for Kirk Farrence in an
Iowa Hawkeye team.
Speaker 2 (02:54):
They put you on the grind and forced you.
Speaker 1 (02:57):
Into playing their style and if you get involved in that,
sometimes you can't get out of it and that makes
it tough, and especially when you play them in Iowa City.
Speaker 4 (03:07):
Yeah, that's a fact, John. They really are a good
football team. They're well coached. Obviously, parents is the winningest
coach now in college are in the Big Ten Football
two hundred and seven victories. He surpassed Woody Hayes and
bou Cheff Beckler and Joe Finterno and Amos Alazo Stagg
and all those people. That tells you something. In twenty
(03:30):
seven years, he's been absolutely a tremendous coach for Iowa
and one of the classiest guys you'll ever talk to too.
He's really a good guy.
Speaker 1 (03:41):
Yeah, there's no doubt about that. Kirk France, the head
coach of the Iowahaw Guys.
Speaker 2 (03:44):
Voice of the.
Speaker 1 (03:44):
Hoosiers, Don Fisher on his birthday rolling hot down to
Bloomington to catch a flight to Iowa City for the
game coming up tomorrow.
Speaker 2 (03:52):
It is i you and Iowa from Iowa City.
Speaker 1 (03:55):
So you go back a week ago to that Saturday nighter,
and so much was may about that. We had talked
about that on Friday. It was all and then some
for who's your fans, expectations, the environment, the game, I
mean all of it. Well, what was it for you
as far as just enjoyment and calling a football game?
Speaker 3 (04:16):
Well, it was just good to see you, John. Last
year we had three or four cellouts at.
Speaker 4 (04:20):
The end of the season. It was always chaotic, a great,
great fan base. They were there, they were cheering their
butts off. But I know in your last Saturday was
maybe the best I've ever seen it at Indiana. It
was standing room only. There wasn't anybody in the crowd
that wasn't screaming.
Speaker 3 (04:39):
Their head off. It was so loud. It was just
absolutely what you'd.
Speaker 4 (04:44):
Expect a football program at Indiana University to become and has.
Speaker 3 (04:49):
Now become that.
Speaker 4 (04:51):
And I say that because for so long it has
not been that way, and it's been year after year
of disappointment or every once in a while you got
a glimmer of hope and then it went away very quickly,
and then of course Kurt Signetti came on the scene
and we've seen nothing but success since. So all I
(05:11):
can tell you is it was really special and to
beat Illinois like they beat them, being ranked eighth in
the country at the time and Indiana rank seventies, and
then they jump up obviously the rankings this week. So
it was just so much fun and it's such a
pleasure and an honor to be a part of this
(05:31):
program right now.
Speaker 1 (05:33):
All right, for everything, don that was really good last Saturday,
What on that level stuck out to you more as
far as that team was concerned with IU and their
win scoring sixty three? What was the positive that stuck
out to you the most in that game?
Speaker 4 (05:52):
I think Fernando Mendoza just because he just has gotten
better and each game that he's played this year, and
that was the first really big stage game that he's
played on and he looked every bit the quarterback we
saw the week before against Indiana State. I mean he
was stunned out by twenty and twenty. I mean he
(06:14):
missed free passes on the day. Through five touchdowns, Frandle
Mendoz proved he's the guy. There's no passion that he's
got a chance. I had a couple of things here
after polage football.
Speaker 1 (06:31):
Yeah, I mean it was an incredible performance. There is
a little doubt about that. And why in closing here,
and I know you got a run because you got
to catch a flight here on your way to bloom.
Speaker 2 (06:42):
Me to Don Fisher voice the Hoosiers joins.
Speaker 1 (06:44):
Us, what's what really stares you in the face as
far as being a worry point, a troublesome point, or
maybe not so much that maybe that's over extending. Well,
something that clearly this Hoo's your team has to deal
with on the road above and be all and above
and beyond all else coming up tomorrow or tomorrow often
(07:06):
they're starting at three thirty. What stands out to you
about this Hawk Eye team.
Speaker 3 (07:10):
Well, the thing that I have always spent leary of.
Speaker 4 (07:14):
When we go to Iowa City is Kinnick Stadium, and
then their fan base. They are truiphy and they fodel
their team everywhere that they go. They're very loud, they're chaotic,
just like Indiana hast Bey come and they're seventy thousand
of them there, so they're going to even be louder
than won't we experienced in Bloomington. But that's not the
big thing. I think the big thing in this game
(07:36):
for Indiana, John is not allowing Iowa to control the
ballgame another word. I always going to try to slow
this thing down, try to get it into their pace,
and just like you said.
Speaker 3 (07:49):
At the very beginning here, they're going to try and grind.
Speaker 4 (07:52):
It out and try to make Indiana have to fight
their kailoff just to get the ball back. And I
think that's the big that's the thing that you've got
to worry about the most. If Indiana can make big plays,
maybe fairly early in the ballgame, I think that changes
everything for Iowa. And so I hope that they have
explosive trees like they did against Illinois, at least fairly
(08:14):
early on in the contest, and they can get Iowa
out of their rhythm and what they.
Speaker 3 (08:19):
Like to do.
Speaker 4 (08:20):
And if they can do that, I think Indiana wins
going away.
Speaker 1 (08:23):
Yeah, there's a zero way this Hawkott team can play
any sort of catchup. So if you get out and
flex offensively early and force them into that mode, I'm
going to feel really good about the experience of the
Sush team in Iowa City tomorrow.
Speaker 4 (08:39):
Me too, And I think that's the key I will give.
I will give Iowa credit. They were basically tied with
the Rutgers going into halftime last week, and then they
control the rest of the football game in the second
half of that contest.
Speaker 3 (08:53):
So that's the thing Indiana's got to keep from.
Speaker 4 (08:56):
They cannot allow Iowa to get control of the football
game and control the football, keep it away from Indiana's offense.
Speaker 1 (09:04):
All right, Well, Don Fisher's on his road to Bloomington
to catch a flight to Iowa City again. Coverage begins
two thirty coming up tomorrow afternoon. Right here, three point thirty.
Is that kick from Kinnick Stadium at Iowa City. Are
you bummed because you're not going to be able on
your birthday to sit back and watch me consume beers
later on tonight?
Speaker 2 (09:22):
Does that bumm you out a little bit on your birthday?
Speaker 3 (09:26):
Well, of course, John Well, I was looking forward to that.
I was looking forward to it. You know that.
Speaker 1 (09:32):
How does How's Don Fisher celebrating his birthday on the road.
Speaker 2 (09:36):
How's this going to happen tonight? Who's buying?
Speaker 5 (09:38):
Well?
Speaker 4 (09:39):
I believe we've been invited to dinner with Scott Dolson
and his wife. I think our whole crew has been invited.
So I think we're going to have a good time
at Iowa City.
Speaker 1 (09:52):
Oh, Man, Dolson, he's not taking your life to the
convenience store or anything like that.
Speaker 2 (09:58):
You're going to a rail restaurant and everything right that.
Speaker 3 (10:01):
I don't know. We may be going to We may
be going to McDonald's. Who knows.
Speaker 1 (10:08):
Man, we'll give him some joke next week. If that's
what I know, I bet you. I mean for a legend,
it's got to be a legend. I don't know any
legendary spots in Iowa City. Like when I think about Bloomington,
I'm thinking, all right, so DoLS is going to take
you guys on the Yankos or something like that.
Speaker 2 (10:25):
So I don't know where that might be in Iowa City.
Speaker 4 (10:29):
Yeah, I don't. I honestly don't know either anymore. It
used to be uh, I can't help thinking the name
of it. Jamy Campbell's spoken to me earlier today or
actually a email or text yesterday. But I can't remember
the name of the place. But it was really good,
but it closed down.
Speaker 3 (10:47):
It's no longer open anymore.
Speaker 4 (10:49):
So I don't know what the best spot at Iowa
City is these days.
Speaker 1 (10:54):
Ah Man Well, Scott Dolson is in charge of funding
a great spot for a great dude on his birthday.
Happy birthday to the Voice of the Hoosiers, Don Fisher,
and this reminder two thirty tomorrow afternoon right here, three
point thirty, the kick get extended Iowa City.
Speaker 2 (11:11):
You got Iyu and the Hawk guys, then a.
Speaker 1 (11:14):
Bye week and then Eugene, Oregon, and Dodd's going to
who knows when Dodg's gonna come on here the week
of that.
Speaker 2 (11:20):
But I do know this. You and I beers next week.
Speaker 1 (11:24):
You and I and Susie beers next Friday, right, buddy,
come on, now, come on now.
Speaker 3 (11:28):
I would think that I think that'll work.
Speaker 2 (11:31):
All right, buddy, Hey, happy birthday to you. We appreciate it.
Speaker 1 (11:34):
Have a great call coming up tomorrow and enjoy that
birthday celebration tonight.
Speaker 2 (11:37):
We'll catch up next Friday.
Speaker 3 (11:40):
Thanks Sean boy, appreciate it man.
Speaker 1 (11:44):
Meantime with the Andy Moore Automotive Group hootline. Right now
yet another week, Week six of the high school football season.
Indiana Sports Talk is always and our friends that Express
pro Tired Auto bring Bob Lovell on this Friday, ind
to talk up week number six.
Speaker 2 (12:00):
Good afternoon, Bob. How are you, Bob? Are you there
right here?
Speaker 6 (12:08):
John?
Speaker 3 (12:08):
I'm doing well? How are you?
Speaker 2 (12:10):
I could not be better? Did you ever?
Speaker 1 (12:12):
Hey, when you were in high school back in eighteen
seventy nine, did you come by Beringers ever?
Speaker 3 (12:18):
No?
Speaker 7 (12:19):
But our friend, our mutual friend, Joe Dasya, Brian Pointer,
Dave Wilson and I have a couple of months.
Speaker 2 (12:28):
Ago, did you really well?
Speaker 3 (12:32):
One of our favorite spots?
Speaker 1 (12:33):
Absolutely, that's that's a hell of a lunchtime group right there,
that's all.
Speaker 2 (12:37):
How'd you couple that one together?
Speaker 3 (12:40):
Yeah?
Speaker 7 (12:40):
I think I think, says a Pointer did that?
Speaker 2 (12:44):
You know?
Speaker 7 (12:44):
I think they did it? And so, you know what,
to get all of us together in the same reason,
quite an accomplishment.
Speaker 1 (12:51):
No, there is no doubt about that. That's the hell
of a room right there. But this is a hell of.
Speaker 2 (12:55):
A room for that room right.
Speaker 1 (12:58):
To say, the least he let's start right, and I
guess because we get the return, the triumphant return to
Mike Wells of the show a little bit later on
here Brownsburg, where he resides five and zero. Is this
later off tonight on the road at six A, four
and one Westfield they're fifth ranked in sixth A. This
is going to be their toughest test of the season
(13:19):
to date. Bomb tonight.
Speaker 7 (13:20):
Yeah, absolutely, I mean, Westfield's for real and it's amazing
what Josh Miracle has done. You took over, obviously for
a tremendous job Jay Gilbert had done. They've continued that success.
They are they're legit, And I think it's you know,
you're on the road, you're number one, all the pressure.
Speaker 3 (13:43):
That goes with that.
Speaker 7 (13:44):
You're playing a really, really good, at dangerous and explodesive team,
and so I think, listen, Brownsford's played a great schedule anyway,
but I think this is one of is not the
best challenge they've had to this point.
Speaker 1 (13:57):
Well, and you could make the argument too. I know
everybody says all you do is talk about six A. Well, okay,
but you can make the argument that this may be
the best game of the Friday night schedule, is it not?
Speaker 7 (14:09):
I would think it's in the top five. I don't
think there's any question. I mean when when you, I mean.
Speaker 8 (14:14):
Think about it.
Speaker 7 (14:15):
Whatever the class you have number one taking on number five,
that's a significant matchup and just happens to be here
in central Indiana, and yeah, I understand. Look, I've done
indians forts off for thirty two years, and even after
thirty two years, I still get accused of being an
Indianapolis based show. Well, well that's where the studio is,
(14:35):
but I talk about everybody around the state. But it
doesn't matter, so they're gonna look at it that way.
Speaker 2 (14:41):
Anyway.
Speaker 1 (14:42):
It's a Bob Lovel of Indiana Sports Talk every Friday,
Express Pro Tyron Auto brings with the thirteen locations. Bob
on the show from Indiana Sports Talk with your Friday
night of high school football. This is week number six.
Your Quakers are playing field third ranked and five A
and five and zero in the season with a test
(15:04):
with six A defending five A champion Decatur Central right
down there on the southwest side of Indie off of
State Road sixty seven.
Speaker 2 (15:13):
What are we thinking about, Bob with that matchup?
Speaker 7 (15:16):
Conference matchup always a big conference matchup, was even when
I was in school, and it is a I think
a clear test for both teams. I mean, the Gator
Central is starting to play much better. Quakers stumbled early and.
Speaker 3 (15:30):
Playing much better too.
Speaker 7 (15:31):
So you have two teams that are playing their best
football at a time when you need to continue to
be that way. And I think, I think that's a
great matchup.
Speaker 3 (15:41):
I know that, you know, we talked.
Speaker 7 (15:44):
About, you know, matchups, John, I think talking about Decator
excuse me, talking about Brownsburg and their matchup with the Westfield,
I'm not so sure. The best matchup isn't in five
A with New Palestine. Excuse me, with yeah, New Alan
blooming himself. That may be the best game around.
Speaker 1 (16:03):
Well, here's the thing, a New pal They they must
be really doing. Kyle Ralph Well, I've often wondered he's
had so so much of a consistent and I mean
elite level results there.
Speaker 2 (16:20):
They must do one hell of a job to keep
that dude around.
Speaker 6 (16:23):
Well, I think.
Speaker 7 (16:26):
The fact that he has the tradition that he's developed,
h he has a great system all the way through,
you know the grades. They have tremendously talented guys, they
have a great infrastructure, great support from the community and
the administration.
Speaker 3 (16:41):
Uh, those things are hard to find.
Speaker 7 (16:43):
And when you're when you have that and you're in
the success he's had, I don't think you could.
Speaker 3 (16:47):
I don't think there are.
Speaker 1 (16:48):
Better jobs quite frankly, Listen, it's tough to find if
you are going to find it, no question about that. Hey,
I'm gonna give you the Southern Indiana matchup of the
evening week, number six.
Speaker 2 (17:00):
Are you ready?
Speaker 7 (17:01):
I'm ready when you were?
Speaker 2 (17:02):
But how about four A.
Speaker 1 (17:04):
They're coming up from Santa Claus on the road to Hobstott.
Five and oh number one and four A Heritage Hills
and Gibson Southern at four and one A shout out
to Hobstott.
Speaker 2 (17:17):
It's gonna be hopping coming up later off tonight.
Speaker 1 (17:20):
Nobody knows how to spell it, but you're certainly going
to be able to party and play at it tonight.
Speaker 3 (17:25):
Well, if you're a.
Speaker 7 (17:26):
Raceman, you've been to the racetrack, so maybe that helps.
Speaker 2 (17:30):
Yeah, that's it.
Speaker 7 (17:31):
Well, I think it's a fantastic game. I think you
coil you you rattled off the stats Heritage Hills with
Jet Goldsberry. He is a legit mister football candidate. They
won the championship a year ago. He was fantastic. A
lot of those guys are back. They have incredibly talented kids.
(17:52):
A couple of their interior linemen are going to SEC school,
so up front there, they're.
Speaker 3 (17:57):
A formidable opponent. You love what cart.
Speaker 7 (18:00):
Has done at at Gibson Southern. They'll throw the ball.
This one would be a fantastic at Frankly my personal
favorite in terms of games tonight.
Speaker 9 (18:10):
I mean it is.
Speaker 7 (18:12):
This is a state championship level competition tonight, John, And
it wouldn't surprise me if even the one of them
won the five eight championship, excuse me, the four A championship.
And I'm Bob love You have to get his garden
to get to that point.
Speaker 3 (18:26):
But but these are good jeeus.
Speaker 1 (18:28):
It's Bob lovell of. Then he had a sports talk
right there. I'm gonna give some love to this one too.
Shout out to a good friend. We haven't talked to
him in a while. Jim Sergey, his son Jack is
the quarterback.
Speaker 2 (18:40):
I believe it.
Speaker 1 (18:40):
Try West, right, he's going to Louisville. I think he's
already committed.
Speaker 2 (18:44):
Four and one.
Speaker 1 (18:45):
Try West and how about from Trafalgar, which is equally
difficult to spell. Like Hobstott, you got three, A, four
and one Indian Creek and a battle.
Speaker 2 (18:57):
Of four and one's later on tonight.
Speaker 6 (18:59):
It's a great game.
Speaker 7 (19:00):
Creek has just been but both of them have had
a tremendous run. Indian Creek quite frankly Minor surprised a
few people.
Speaker 8 (19:10):
But Try West.
Speaker 7 (19:11):
These are two teams, John, have great tradition and great
support and are playing superior football right now. So add
this to that. That great in the list of tremendous
games going on tonight.
Speaker 1 (19:27):
Yeah, and then obviously in two way Adam Central number one,
five and oh Brownstown Central five and oh they get
zero and five Seymour. That's probably not gonna end well
for the Owls. Number three is Lapel they're five and
oh one and four Rushville Trighton Central is five and
oh the pribade is Shelby County right there, shout out,
right there, and they get for eleven and four and one.
Speaker 7 (19:49):
Bob later on tonight, tam Abel's guys that Try and
Central have been playing well. They are a fundamentally sound team, John.
They don't make mistakes. They have a crushing running.
Speaker 6 (20:00):
Game, and so you like I like him, I like them.
Speaker 7 (20:05):
I like everything they do. Lebanon is playing awfully, awfully well.
Elevens won four.
Speaker 3 (20:10):
At this point. So this is another one of.
Speaker 7 (20:12):
Those games, two really really good football teams.
Speaker 2 (20:16):
Bob Lovell of Indiana Sports Talk.
Speaker 1 (20:19):
You got that, and you got a lot of college
action going on this weekend, don't you, buddy?
Speaker 9 (20:23):
We absolutely do.
Speaker 3 (20:24):
It's one of those great weekends.
Speaker 2 (20:26):
John, it is, isn't it? Are you staked out at Franklin?
Are ready to go later on tonight?
Speaker 7 (20:33):
I'm in. I'm in for the night, brother, Although my
wife and I we are going to do something we
don't normally do. We're sneaking out for his early dinner
Because John, sixty one years ago today, I had my
first date with the prettiest girl at Plainfield Junior High
and little did we know that we'd still be together
(20:53):
sixty one years later.
Speaker 1 (20:55):
I'm gonna tell you what, that's a story that needs
to be on film, right there? Has anybody written that
screenplay of your love affair of sixty one years?
Speaker 7 (21:05):
No, We've been married fifty six urad right out of
high school, and it's it's listen We're incredibly proud of it.
We still like each other, and I think that's the
amazing thing. You can understand this with your schedule. In
the fifty six years of marriage, I've never been home
on the weekends.
Speaker 2 (21:26):
That's incredible.
Speaker 7 (21:29):
Hey, So yeah, fifty one years ago today we went
to watch the Plainfield High School football team.
Speaker 3 (21:35):
That was our first date.
Speaker 1 (21:38):
Bob Lovell, very sixty one years ago today, bub Lovell
realize something. We always always play up, always try to
out kick the coverage, buddy always.
Speaker 2 (21:53):
You know what I mean, absolutely understand.
Speaker 8 (21:57):
I know it.
Speaker 3 (21:57):
I'm smart enough to know it.
Speaker 7 (21:59):
And it's been it's been unbelievably, unbelievably rewarding. Our lives
are gone in the direction either one of us ever predicted,
and it couldn't have gone better.
Speaker 1 (22:12):
Well done there, Palomino. We appreciate you.
Speaker 2 (22:14):
Hey, have a great weekend on Indiana Sports Talk. We
shall be listening and uh we'll do it again next week.

I thought that was the only way to bring him
back on. He's spen the Mia for the past month
or plus or so. Mike Wells ESPN Radio from Brownsburg, Indiana,
Friend of the Show is on the Andy Moore Auto

Speaker 6 (23:30):
Man? It feels so good and that is a great
re entry song for me. Roll back in on.
Speaker 5 (23:35):
Listen life life has been hected last couple of minutes,
last couple of months. Yeah, your girl, Lady Lee Wells
has kept me busy traveling around. Hey, yes, well, all
these good things and stuff. But it feels so good
to be back with the crew and a great job
(23:56):
bringing back a little nineteen ninety two, nineteen ninety three.
Speaker 2 (23:59):
Still, Yes, how's our how's our girl Layla doing over?
There is hoops doing doing well over in Brownsburg?
Speaker 6 (24:08):
Yes, uh, you know it's it's a little she got
I have to pull out of the bed at five
am for a five to forty five am workouts on
Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Speaker 5 (24:18):
But once she gets something gets downstairs, life is yeah,
all as well once she gets downstairs.
Speaker 6 (24:25):
Uh, but she's doing good. How'm I gond lady doing?
Speaker 1 (24:29):
She is awesome, taking her all that, she's going to everything,
and hey, Mike, and then I throw this in like
some of her coaching staff will play on Thursday night.
Then I whip their ass too for good measure. How
about that? I love you, I love I love whipping
the ass of her coaching staff.
Speaker 2 (24:44):
That makes me feel good.
Speaker 6 (24:46):
Are you had to give a seven minsial work on
the court?
Speaker 2 (24:49):
Oh?
Speaker 1 (24:50):
Well, he doesn't play because he says, oh, I mean
my back, my back hurts. I go good, God, I said,
just say, you don't.
Speaker 2 (24:58):
Want to play? My back hurts? Yeah, okay, my back,
my back.
Speaker 1 (25:05):
Actually I like him a great deal, but I want
to make fun of him right now, because that's the
first thing he said, The reason I don't play is
my back hurts. I said, brother, All of our back hurts,
all right, every last one of us dudes at this age.
Speaker 2 (25:19):
So yeah, it's a poor excuse Mike.
Speaker 6 (25:22):
Oh Man, and so when he gets you get into the.
Speaker 2 (25:24):
Workout, Yeah, she is good.
Speaker 3 (25:29):
They might.
Speaker 2 (25:30):
I know you feel the same way about Laila.
Speaker 1 (25:32):
I could not be more proud of her because there
is so much, especially in this day and age of
going through high school, that you have to adjust to
on a daily basis. I mean, I just kind of
jacked around for four years, right, and it all kind.
Speaker 2 (25:46):
Of came to me.
Speaker 1 (25:47):
But these guys, these guys have to be prepared and
then adapt the stuff. And yeah, I can't be more
proud of her than I am. And I know you
feel the same way about Layla because it is much
different than we went through high school.
Speaker 5 (26:00):
Hey, I tell my kids all the time, Thank goodness
there was no such thing as social media and cell
phones with video, because my ass would have been busted
NonStop doing stupid things when I was in high school
and probably would have been My parents was in kicking
my butt knowing the things I was doing. If it
(26:21):
was posting on social media on TikTok and Twitter and
snapchat and all that said, oh my god, I would
have to be a perfect angel. Instead, I was a
pain in the rear.
Speaker 3 (26:33):
In some thirty years.
Speaker 8 (26:34):
Ago, Mike.
Speaker 1 (26:35):
Even without video, I got in trouble. And there wasn't
a damn day when I wasn't running balcony laps or
doing so. I got in trouble even without video. Can
you imagine, I mean, what the mess I would be
with video. There's zero way I could navigate.
Speaker 6 (26:50):
Now, Oh man, I'm with you on that list. I'm
glad I'm bad because it is a great turn to.
Speaker 5 (26:56):
Be a sports fan in the state of Indiana right now.
Look at obviously the Fever doing what they're doing. When
I was hating the car, I you, the buzz is
all in charge.
Speaker 6 (27:08):
I spend more time talking to.
Speaker 5 (27:09):
To about IU football, and I have all my years
of mind down there.
Speaker 3 (27:13):
And obviously the.
Speaker 5 (27:15):
Daniel Jones Switzer quarterback is working on just fine. I
figured we got to hit this out before Pacers started
training him where things might kind of die down a
little bit on the height of the sports in the
state of Indiana.
Speaker 10 (27:29):
Wells, When I was pulling in the parking lot here
for the show, I almost just stayed in the car,
but I just listened to you sing. But I'm glad
to hear you back where you belong, and You're right.
I always I always said the benchmark of the greatest
sports year in Indiana was the year two thousand, when
so many things went down. You know, Pacers in the finals,
(27:50):
Cold hosted their first playoff game in Indy. F one
was here first year, the Fever Final four was here,
on and on and on. But twenty twenty five is
really giving it a run for its month. And it's
by no means over. I mean, Purdue's gonna begin the
season what John, and basketball top five? Yeah, probably number one.
I use, making a run for the playoffs. Here go
the Fever colts off and running.
Speaker 2 (28:11):
Uh.
Speaker 10 (28:12):
This this reminds you of why an idiot like me
from the South has stayed here so long, because once
things get cooking in Central Indiana, there's no place better
for sports.
Speaker 5 (28:22):
First of all, it's good to hear my fever two
foot five ginger's voice. It's good to have to have
you join me. Uh, some things haven't changed. I'm still
talking a lot of trash and everything. So I'm glad, Josh,
But no, you're you're right. Hey, I do I gotta
say this, and I would love to hear your todds.
Speaker 2 (28:39):
John.
Speaker 6 (28:39):
I'm sure you've discussed it.
Speaker 5 (28:40):
On the show, but everybody was saying, what the hell
was Chris Ballard doing? Why are they giving up? On
Anthony richardson why is Shang shot? Stiking downe with Richards
says that Dan Jones switch has worked out great for
the Colts, and not only from a short term standpoint,
and they keep playing well, which I mean, I believe
(29:01):
they're gonna win a division and we'll see after these
next few games and stuff. But you're looking at potential, Daniel,
don't say in your long term. I just thoughts changed
on valor Jay.
Speaker 1 (29:15):
Hey, Mike, does it make me sound bad that back
in January I wanted to fire everybody, terious, I wanted
to fire everybody, get rid of everybody to start new.
Speaker 2 (29:23):
Does that look bad now?
Speaker 5 (29:26):
I mean, listen, honestly, it was a frustration that not
only you're getting tired of talking about how bad the
coach are on the air, but the fan base is
frustration everything. But hey, I asked people say they would
go go off the westfield and get Chris Vallord out
of there.
Speaker 6 (29:42):
Now, I mean there's three and zeros.
Speaker 5 (29:43):
We'll see how it goes when they're going on the
road to faith and lamps. It so down the stretch
against the Eagles last week, and Sea will get tougher.
But you've got to light the sense the change of decordinator.
What Daniel's doing, Ty Warren is just chilling it at
tight end. Donothy Jones to being Donothan Jones. This is
what the Colts expected once they selected Anson Richardson after
(30:05):
a year or so, a couple of years ago.
Speaker 3 (30:07):
It's just taking a.
Speaker 5 (30:08):
Couple of years and a different quarterback for the for
the signs of promise to finally start up here.
Speaker 2 (30:14):
And let's not forget Jones, a first round draft pick.
Speaker 10 (30:16):
He's only twenty eight years old, so there's plenty of
tread still on that tire. But it is interesting because
a lot of folks had given up, maybe on Ballard
and Stiching, a lot of folks had already given up.
Speaker 2 (30:26):
On Daniel Jones.
Speaker 10 (30:27):
It makes me wonder, and I'll ask both of you
this who needed who more? Did did the Colts need
Daniel Jones or did Daniel Jones need the Colts? Because
both of them are much better off than they wear
a year ago.
Speaker 3 (30:37):
Today.
Speaker 5 (30:39):
I'll go first.
Speaker 11 (30:39):
I'll say I say a coach seed Daniel Jones bar
Than Daniel needed the coat because it has just been
such outside of the Philip Rivers here, it has been.
Speaker 6 (30:50):
Such a boring and enthusiastic from the Colts.
Speaker 5 (30:57):
Angel Luck retired at twenty nineteen. Now they have it.
Speaker 6 (31:01):
I mean, shoot, when they.
Speaker 5 (31:03):
Won the Week one game for the first seasons, I
was covering them at twenty thirteen, Oh, they holy coutut
then they go, you know, thankful for the penalty on
the flag on the late at the end of the
dimmer gamesing of.
Speaker 6 (31:13):
And then listen and the Titans are the tightens.
Speaker 5 (31:15):
You're not a good football team with two three and.
Speaker 6 (31:17):
Oh they're like hoping optimism for the first time.
Speaker 10 (31:22):
And who knows how long If they win Sunday, Mike,
they're gonna win ten games at least. I mean, if
they're four to oh and they got the Raiders coming
up next week, I mean, who knows how many wins
they could get.
Speaker 2 (31:35):
And you're right, they won.
Speaker 10 (31:37):
They want a home They won a season opening for
the first time since twenty thirteen. They haven't won the
division since twenty fourteen. They haven't made the playoffs since
twenty twenty. I mean, they can just start xing off
all these demons week by week, and the more you know,
each week goes by, you start putting some distance between
those other teams. And this could turn out to be
(31:57):
you don't want to get too far ahead of yourselves,
but it's lining up really so far.
Speaker 6 (32:01):
It is amazing about it.
Speaker 5 (32:03):
Obviously, it's gonna take some time for War down to
Tennessee to get going. DJ Stroud is just going, I
don't know what the hell's going on in Ugon.
Speaker 6 (32:10):
I'm gonna crede.
Speaker 5 (32:11):
About the Jaguars. I'm not gonna shook the war on
the Jaguars. But it's like, man, there the Colts. People
are talking about the Colts and apopative for the first
time and who knows how long and that and that's
a great pleas And John, I know you got to
love it from three to six right now that you're
not sitting here having to just basically pull your pants
on to take a squat on the direction of the franchise.
Speaker 2 (32:35):
Yeah, I was.
Speaker 1 (32:36):
I've been tired of squatting on the franchise, There's no
doubt about that. I I kind of look at it
as I tell people, Mike to embrace the moment and
then we'll sort it all out to see where they go.
Because through the first three weeks, well they played a
week schedule, nobody's been any good and this is gonna
be the best gage so far coming up on Sunday
(32:56):
in LA. But I've told people, it has been so
long since you've been able to really truly enjoy it.
Speaker 2 (33:05):
Enjoy it, and then if it.
Speaker 1 (33:06):
Goes haywire or if it goes south, we'll talk about
it when that happens. But no, it is, in start contrast,
so much of a refreshing difference than it has been.
Speaker 2 (33:20):
It's good to see. I mean, it really is.
Speaker 1 (33:23):
I don't openly root Mike for these teams around here,
but I openly root for the people that support them
to go out and Watts that use their disposable income
to be a part of it. And I'm happy for
them because they're able to, at least so far in
the month of September and twenty twenty five, to celebrate this.
Speaker 6 (33:42):
Yeah, and hey, I'm a backtrack real quick. Yes, the
teams they've.
Speaker 5 (33:46):
Played have not been very good. But with that stead
the way I look at it, as the way I'm
flipping it around, is is how they how they won
those teams. I mean they stop they got here and
Shampton the Titans last week, and in obviously we talked
we talked about the Broncos on how they beat the Broncos.
Speaker 6 (34:08):
They humiliated the Dolphins a week one. If had they
lost or even won close.
Speaker 5 (34:13):
Games against two of the three teams which are bad,
people went and had option to them. It's the fact
that they basically put their foot on their throats and said, hey,
we're not just going to be a whole hum badley
win against backing football team.
Speaker 6 (34:27):
It's worn.
Speaker 5 (34:28):
So I look at it as yes, bad team, but
they dominated both of those bad teams.
Speaker 6 (34:32):
So that's why I kind of flipped the script on
them a little bit.
Speaker 10 (34:37):
And bad teams, true, Mike, But each and every week
we see a bad team beat somebody. So you can't say, oh, well,
I mean in the NFL, you always hear coaches say, hey,
any win in the NFL is tough, But then you
see that week in and week out, because there are
teams like I mean, look at the Browns last week.
Who thought the Browns were gonna beat the Packers and
(34:57):
the Packers kind of peed down their leg on that one.
But that that to me is you never apologize for
a win, no matter who you played, No.
Speaker 6 (35:06):
One hundred percent. And that said to what just so
it's fun. Listen, Woundolfs was gonna happen in the Fever season.
Speaker 5 (35:15):
I mean obviously you got you got the Aces out
there as has got the league MVP. No Caitlin Clark
and everything, but credit credit to what this franchise is
done without Kaitlin Clark for so long. And then you
know Mendoza has just stepped in and like a great
chickaby signatty and a quarterback to box. So it's date
the seat and those boys up I sixty five in
West South Yeah.
Speaker 6 (35:34):
Like you said, John said they should. They may be
the number one team in the country. So it is.
It is a great time to be in the state
of Indiana and to be a quote unquote Hoosier.
Speaker 1 (35:46):
So Mike Wells ESPN Radio is making his triumphant return
on the show on a Friday.
Speaker 2 (35:52):
He's with us on Andy Moore Auto, Butterifruit polwine.
Speaker 1 (35:54):
Baronser's tavern legendary plays since eighteen seventy nine is our
bud Light Blue Flyday location.
Speaker 2 (36:00):
So I've gone at me what's that? Oh?
Speaker 5 (36:03):
Sorry, but Terry was getting the Carver Soccer Riders. I'm
mean to hit me, so my bad?
Speaker 8 (36:08):
Are you?
Speaker 2 (36:09):
Are you going to Westfield tonight?
Speaker 7 (36:11):
Nah?
Speaker 5 (36:12):
Man, Listen, that's too far of a drive to brown
for me to go up there and watch Roundsberg stop
another team.
Speaker 8 (36:20):
So I'm going to watch on long night.
Speaker 5 (36:23):
I mean, I listen, when you're loaded with power five
guys on offense and the defense is underrated, it is
a great story in Brownsburg out there, but I'm not
I'm not gonna be dealing with that traffic at the
head of the website. I just watching the line and
support my Bulldogs and hopefully we'll get a Brownsburg Center
group game in the postseason.
Speaker 6 (36:42):
At some point.
Speaker 2 (36:44):
How about this.
Speaker 1 (36:45):
I think Sinner Groves like working on its uh fifth
string running back because of injuries right now.
Speaker 2 (36:50):
But still, I mean, Eric Eric Moore is an absolute genius,
There's no doubt about that. Now, this Oscar kid at quarterback,
he's pretty good from what I hear.
Speaker 5 (37:02):
Yeah, no, hey, no, oscur Fry. Oscur Fry is a
very good quarterback. I mean he's only a junior, so
it's interesting. I just love I love high school sport.
I know Chris is not working on a Friday night.
He hasn't worked on a Friday night twenty five years.
He has been covered high school sport out there. I
do see other networks showing up in Brownsburg with their
(37:25):
Cara is getting a lot of footage. But I'm not
going to go down that path again because i know, heygen,
once he gets rolling, I'm talking about TV on the networks,
he gets roller, so I'm gonna leave it alone.
Speaker 2 (37:36):
Well, I can tell you this, Mike Wells.
Speaker 10 (37:39):
We have a young man who interned at our station
who is now a big wig out there at Brownsburg,
and he supplies us with the needed video each and
every week. So that's why we work smart, not hard,
but we do by all means. We take care of
the bulldogs.
Speaker 2 (37:56):
Tell Mike where you go on Friday night after the show?
Speaker 7 (38:00):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (38:00):
I usually go.
Speaker 10 (38:02):
I'm not gonna name the the uh the actual place,
but I usually go somewhere in either Anderson or Shelbyville.
Speaker 2 (38:08):
So you know where he's going, right, Mike.
Speaker 5 (38:12):
They know my name, they know.
Speaker 2 (38:18):
Mister Higen. Good to see you again. We have your
usual table by a By the way, I.
Speaker 5 (38:24):
Love the casino Anderson because I'm for John and I.
We're up there and like we were part of BBD
some years ago.
Speaker 6 (38:32):
We were trying to get on thaves and uh and
replaced Bobby was out of shape and couldn't sing pongs anymore.
Speaker 5 (38:39):
So UH, I have all the love in the world
for on the casino up there in Anderson.
Speaker 1 (38:45):
Hey, Mike closing here Pacer Media Day, A team he
used to cover is coming up on Monday. I love
what Chad Buchannan said. I mean they they feel that
this team should compete. I have stated this. I'm a
believer in this group in high level competition still even
(39:05):
with the losses.
Speaker 6 (39:06):
What do you think?
Speaker 5 (39:08):
I love it because I think Rick Rick Carlisle right
now and my firm belief is best coaching NBA. I
think coaching Wyant Will had the boys ready. And you're
look at the makeup at the Eastern Conference. There's there's
so many guys knowing injuries out there. I mean, there's
something going to have Cato.
Speaker 3 (39:26):
Man out there.
Speaker 5 (39:27):
So anything I'm not saying, I'm not gonna say the
pation of getting back to the finals or even in
the Eastern Conference finals, but they'll compete and they'll be
in the mix.
Speaker 1 (39:37):
Mike Wells, the ESPN radio is back. I love Talayla
and uh we'll do it again next Friday. Man, I'm
glad we've got you back on here. I was kind
of concerned for a moment, but we're glad. We're glad
to have you back.
Speaker 6 (39:53):
I am glad to be back Ka, my favorite one
foot two Jinger, you have.
Speaker 5 (39:58):
A good weekend.
Speaker 3 (39:58):
I know you're not working.
Speaker 2 (40:02):
Joel A.
Speaker 1 (40:03):
Ericsson First and Joel on Fox fifty nine and five
o'clock hour on the Andy Moore Automotive Group Hootline. Joel,
thank you for the time. How are you good? How
are you guys doing well? It's get another place where
you should be. But one of these days you're going
to be here live and uh we'll trip that light.
Fantastic for you. But until then you're kind of forced
(40:25):
to hear what we're doing. This is going to be
the most challenging game, at least team wise, that Colts
have played, but even more so challenging considering the circumstances
of those that have already been ruled out.
Speaker 9 (40:42):
Yeah yeah, I think, especially the team they're going again,
makes some of these absence of a bigger deal. You know,
Matt Gonzolvez being out at right guard, that one was
kind of a little bit of a surprise, just because
he finished the game the other day.
Speaker 8 (40:55):
We did see him get get hurt. But it is
a Rams team.
Speaker 9 (41:00):
That's pretty good and pretty deep on the interior line.
So Dalton Tucker is gonna have to to, you know,
play well against Brayden Fisk and Kobe Turner and some
of these guys.
Speaker 8 (41:10):
That they can poon afford.
Speaker 9 (41:11):
Some of these guys at the Rams have in the
UH in the interior defensive line.
Speaker 8 (41:16):
And then the other one, Nora is unavailable.
Speaker 9 (41:18):
And Pookinakula plays a lot out of the slot. And
I think you much rather have you know, Kenny Moore,
you know, healthy and available, but obviously he's he's got
to get the Achilles, right. I think we're gonna see
Mike Hilton there, you know I and he hasn't played
this year, so I don't.
Speaker 8 (41:34):
Really know what to expect.
Speaker 2 (41:37):
Yeah, Joel A.
Speaker 10 (41:38):
Erickson, this is your good friend and colleague Chris Hagen
from the wildly popular First and Joel's segment of the
Blue Zone each and every Sunday morning.
Speaker 2 (41:47):
UH yeah.
Speaker 3 (41:48):
Yeah.
Speaker 10 (41:48):
Every time, like people talk about games, they they they
generally talk about team versus team, but it does come
down to matchups and those will be some key things
to keep an eye on Sunday. And you talked about
the Colts offensive line, and you see a Rams team
tied for the lead in sacks. They're going to be
getting after Daniel Miller or Daniel Jones, I should say.
And he's done a good job of avoiding the sacks
(42:10):
through the first three weeks, So that to me, how
much protection can he get and what will be his reaction.
He's done a good job escape escaping some pressure, and
he's also done a good job of taking care of
the football when sometimes pressure can lead to those mistakes.
To me, that'll be a key indicator comes Sunday.
Speaker 8 (42:28):
Yeah, he's really done a good job.
Speaker 9 (42:31):
I think you know, he had the big scramble last week,
but I think part of it is that he's done
a really good job of knowing where to go with
the ball if he's got somebody coming at him and
getting it out of.
Speaker 8 (42:41):
His hands quickly. I'm curious to see.
Speaker 9 (42:44):
How this Rams pass rush looks against the quarterback who
gets the ball out of his hands fairly quickly, because
Daniel Jones is I think eight in the NFL in
terms of time to throw, time from the snaps when
he lets it go. The guys they've played so far,
cam Ward and Jalen Hurt, it's j Stroud.
Speaker 8 (43:01):
Those are all the guys that have a reputation.
Speaker 9 (43:03):
For kind of holding onto the ball a little bit more.
And if you hold on the ball a little bit more,
you have.
Speaker 8 (43:07):
A tendency to give up some sacks.
Speaker 9 (43:09):
So I think this is a very good, very young,
up and coming Rams defensive line.
Speaker 8 (43:15):
But they haven't really played a quarterback.
Speaker 9 (43:17):
Yet who's who does a good job of getting the
ball out.
Speaker 8 (43:20):
Of his hands quickly.
Speaker 10 (43:22):
At any level of football, when you talk about a
team through three games that hasn't turned it over, hasn't
been going three and out, is only punted once, I mean,
regardless of who you're playing, that that is a recipe
for success.
Speaker 2 (43:37):
And it's been pretty amazing.
Speaker 10 (43:38):
And Jonathan Taylor and some others talked about it this
week about how they it's not by accident that they've
been had had such great ball security.
Speaker 9 (43:46):
Yeah, absolutely, that they focus on it if something they
care a lot about.
Speaker 7 (43:50):
I was.
Speaker 9 (43:51):
You know, one of the things I've been thinking about
this week in terms of the level of competition. I
think Miami and Tennessee. We're going to look at those
teams and say they were pretty bad. But if you
look a Denver pass rush, you know, we talked it
up so much coming into the game, and then it
didn't really affect Jones much more than you know, one
second six quarterback hits.
Speaker 8 (44:09):
But if you look at what they did last week.
Speaker 9 (44:10):
Against the Chargers, they sacked Justin Herbert five times and
hit him fourteen.
Speaker 8 (44:16):
Times, so that that pass rush is just as good
as we thought it was. Colts just had a really
good day against them.
Speaker 2 (44:24):
Yeah, they are.
Speaker 10 (44:25):
We mentioned the Rams are tied for the league leading sacks,
are tied with the Broncos, so that that speaks to
what you're saying. It wasn't just like a tomato can
there up there against John. You can join us back
now in the conversation here, since you chose to walk
away right in the middle of me introducing the first
and Joel segment from the award winning books, I.
Speaker 2 (44:44):
Tell you had a handle. Hey, here's a little tidbit.
Speaker 10 (44:47):
This is some a little funny thing This is a
behind the seeds inside jokes you can pay attention to.
On Sunday, Joel and I taped first, and Joel we
taped that on Wednesday, and then I got a haircut
on Tuesday. I mean, excuse me, Thursday. So if you
watch the show, I'm gonna have really short hair. To
start the show, I'll have this segment with Joel, I'll
(45:07):
have more hair, and then you'll come back from that
segment and I'll have a haircut again. So if a
keen viewer can see that, din My, my hair growth
will fluctuate throughout the program.
Speaker 2 (45:16):
It's that's all of a plan He's got built for you,
right there, Joel. You know what I'm saying. Go ahead, Joel.
Speaker 9 (45:24):
I was I was supposed to get a haircut on Tuesday,
but the person I usually get my haircut from had
to cancel.
Speaker 8 (45:31):
I think because she was I think she's getting ready
to have her baby. So now I got to figure
out where I'm gonna get my haircut. You know, I
gotta figure out where I'm gonna get my haircut for
the next.
Speaker 10 (45:40):
Six weeks during COVID, I have some clippers and I
would cut Phil and Dave Griffiths.
Speaker 2 (45:47):
I would cut their hair for them in the in
the sports office.
Speaker 10 (45:50):
But Joel, you do have I've said this before, you
have hair like Clark Kent aka Superman. You have these
Superman flowing locks. So I'd imagine you probably have to
pay a little more for a haircut.
Speaker 6 (46:00):
Than I do.
Speaker 9 (46:02):
Yeah, I've got to get I've got to get some
uh you know, uh some sitting done sometimes and stuff
like that.
Speaker 1 (46:09):
So yeah, Joe Herrick say, I was thinking about Hagen
and cutting people's hair into sports office job. That's a
good job. Sounds like a hell love playing. Everybody's got
the sports office right there, Joel, does it not? I
look at it this way. What Mike Hilton's going to
play a significant role. He's going to be thrust into
(46:30):
it coming up on on Sunday. Kenny Moore is going
to be down. We'll see how long this is ultimately
going to be. How do you think he will end
up playing in that spot? I mean, listen, what else
are you going to do? But at the same time,
I kind of wonder about him, and I wonder if
ad Mitchell. We talk so much about Adi Mitchell being
able to, you know, catch passes and do.
Speaker 2 (46:52):
Something with it. In one of these days, he's only
going to break out.
Speaker 1 (46:55):
You would think that maybe that opportunity prevails coming up
on Sunday for Mitchell A.
Speaker 9 (47:00):
Well, yeah, I think I think with Hilton, I'm kind
of looking at him the way I look.
Speaker 8 (47:06):
At Xavian Howard.
Speaker 9 (47:07):
You know that that's a guy that I don't think
he has any trouble knowing where to go. I think
sometimes I think sometimes once he gets there or once
once he's in coverage, he has some trouble with some
of the speed of the younger guys. I'm curious to
see if Hilton's ready to run with people after not playing.
Speaker 8 (47:24):
So far this season. I mean, the Dolphins did release
him at the end of training camp.
Speaker 9 (47:28):
So I those that matchup that corner versus Rams wide
receiver matchup outside of Ward and probably covering DeVonta Adams,
which I think that's probably the fun matchup to watch
those other corners. I'm curious to see how they do
against this Rams team. And then with Mitchell with Michell,
I think this is a big game for him because
(47:50):
if you look at what the Rams have done so far.
Speaker 8 (47:52):
Last week, they they kind of shut.
Speaker 9 (47:54):
Down Sae Horn Barkley, and so I'm kind of expecting
Johnston Taylor to have a.
Speaker 8 (48:00):
Maybe not necessarily a rough game.
Speaker 9 (48:02):
It's hard to bet against him the way he's been
playing so far, but I think he's gonna not gonna
have much room to run.
Speaker 8 (48:06):
I think they might have to throw the ball.
Speaker 9 (48:08):
Get going throwing the ball, and Alex Pearce has made
some big catches the last couple of weeks.
Speaker 8 (48:13):
They're gonna need Mitchell to do the same thing.
Speaker 9 (48:14):
Because the thing with this Rams defense is, if you'd
say there's a pinpoint of weakness, their corners are not
guys you've really heard of before.
Speaker 10 (48:25):
And that's the exciting thing about a game because obviously
you know McVeigh and company. They know where the Colts
have issues, injury issues, They're going to look to exploit that.
The same thing goes for the Colts, and then you
get to that end game adjustment when you say, Okay,
this is what they're trying to do, this is what
we're going to do. And that's something John and I
were talking about earlier about Shane Stike and I really
love his game plans and schemes, but sometimes in the
(48:48):
game management and the adjustments. You call some things into question,
But I think this will be two great young minds
in the game and I'm excited to see a how
they come out of the gate and then b what
kind of adjustments made mid game?
Speaker 8 (49:02):
Yeah, I think I think the way shame the way
shame Psychen has game planned and play.
Speaker 9 (49:07):
Call that I was told once by an NFL head
coach that a lot of what we call flake Paul
is actually game planning and and and if being really
honest about what they're doing, it's been it's really hard
to argue with somebody who's who's only punted, only had
to call for the punter once you know, he's done
such a good job, he's done such a good job
(49:28):
with the game plan, and you know, I think we
all know at some point there's gonna be a game
where it's not quite where Rigoberto Santez is gonna.
Speaker 8 (49:37):
Have to do a little more. It's just it's just
this is that's the way the NFL works.
Speaker 2 (49:42):
You know.
Speaker 9 (49:42):
You think about the Packers last week, that was a
team everybody said this is the best team in football.
Speaker 8 (49:46):
They got and lose the Browns. So at some point
it's going to be harder. But yeah, I'm with you.
Speaker 9 (49:51):
I think this is a really fun matchup, especially if
you like offensive football between two minds, and I think
are pretty good at finding weaknesses in their opponent and
then exploiting them.
Speaker 10 (50:02):
I love how Shane joked about they finally had the
punt and they saw the flag and they were hoping
they weren't gonna punt, and then he said, but it
was a hell of a punt.
Speaker 3 (50:11):
It was.
Speaker 9 (50:11):
It was a great but I thought it was interesting that,
you know, the street gets broken, the street gets broken.
You think, okay, well they've punted once, and then they
didn't let him punt again. They either scored or had
a field goal opportunity on the next five drive.
Speaker 8 (50:26):
They were like, you got your one end were We're
fine with that. Let's let's get to get rid of
that nonsense and get you back to holding.
Speaker 1 (50:34):
So joy action the stars of anymore out of motive
Group hotline. I was thinking about this, and I'm sure
you probably thought about it as well. Regarding Jared Verse,
I don't want this to end up being a game
where Colts fans come at me on Monday saying, hey,
you know what, we should have drafted this guy instead
of lot Too.
Speaker 2 (50:52):
You know what I mean?
Speaker 9 (50:54):
Yeah, yeah, I hear what you're saying. Verse verse, and
then the other young guy Byron are pretty good. And
I really think depends on it depends on what analytics
sight you like. I know there's a lot of people
who read Pro Football Focus. If you read PFF, they've
got lots Too graded way higher than really any of
the other ones so far. I think I think that
(51:17):
you'd like to see more from him in terms of
the initial pressure, like right away at the beginning of
the snap, and do you like to see more from
him finishing. He doesn't have a stacker quarterback hit right now.
I I have concerns about this pass rush going forward
this season based on what we've saw seen so far.
Speaker 8 (51:34):
They've got seven facts, but they're.
Speaker 9 (51:37):
Like twenty fifth to twenty seventh in pressure.
Speaker 8 (51:39):
Rate depending on who you look at. And that that
feels like what I've seen, which is it's been.
Speaker 9 (51:44):
Kind of hit or miss, and teams are just hammering
to Forest Buttman with double teams. Every time I pull
up my binoculars to look at the line, I feel
like he's going up against not just like a tight
end in somebody he's going up against two three hundred pounders.
At some point somebody else has to take advantage of that.
And and Lot two is the most obvious one. He's
(52:07):
got to start.
Speaker 8 (52:07):
Taking a step for this pass rush to be less
of a concern than it's been so far.
Speaker 1 (52:11):
I was gonna ask you this to be clearly issues
and scoring touchdowns on the red zone, and we could
get to that in a minute, but the lack of
a pass rush. They had four sacks last week, but
I think Joey, you could have had four sacks.
Speaker 2 (52:23):
Last week against Tennessee. That's the way that kind of goes.
But is this something that is going to need to
be addressed if this.
Speaker 1 (52:33):
Team, let's just say, for example, we get into mid
October and they're playing at this level and you know
they've got a stranglehold on the South and things are
looking good. Is this something you feel that they're going
to need to address or are they going to just
hope that a lot too kind of evolves into it
(52:53):
on the fly here.
Speaker 9 (52:54):
I My best guess is that they would see it
as that they've got a lot of good guys there,
and they they'd probably.
Speaker 8 (53:02):
Ride with what they have. I think that my number one.
Speaker 9 (53:07):
Concern on this team right now is how consistent this
pass rush is going to be going forward. I just
don't know if we're going to see them address it
at the trade deadline.
Speaker 2 (53:17):
Joel.
Speaker 10 (53:18):
He told us at the start of the season, and
I'm going to keep riding this horse that they would
win seven seven games this year. I did they already
have three, They're almost halfway to the seven you predicted.
Speaker 2 (53:30):
Do they fall this week and finally taken ill?
Speaker 8 (53:34):
Yeah, I think going out West.
Speaker 9 (53:37):
I think going out West, playing the playing the West,
the game on the West coast there, and just with
the injuries they're dealing with the way the Rams have
been playing.
Speaker 8 (53:46):
I think this is a good I think this is
probably their first loss.
Speaker 9 (53:50):
But I think I said this. I think I said
this to you the other day. As you mentioned, my
predictions so far have been pretty bad. So my predictas
have been pretty bad. So Colts fans should take some
solace in the fact that I'm saying I don't think
they're gonna win on Sunday.
Speaker 1 (54:07):
So your former colleague Nate Atkins, who is working for
the Athletic now covering the Rams out in LA had
mentioned this a little bit earlier that DeVante Adams had
a hamstring situation and he is listed as questionable.
Speaker 2 (54:21):
First, he better be treating you guys to.
Speaker 1 (54:24):
Some type of a cocktail dinner or something like that
when you're out in Southern California. But second, do you
look at the injury situations that we talked about with
the Colts, how do you compare that to what the
Rams are going through going into this week number four
match up in Southern California.
Speaker 8 (54:41):
Yeah, the Rams have some stuff at corner. They've had
some issues on the offensive line. If Adams had a
hamstring I think that that probably helps the.
Speaker 9 (54:51):
Colts quite a bit because maybe get Warren involved a
little bit more. Hamstrings are tough to play through, especially
as wide receiver. That's interesting. We'll see where they end up.
We'll see where they end up. But I just feel
like with some of the depths at the positions where
they're going against the positions where the Colts are missing guys,
(55:12):
I think it could be big.
Speaker 2 (55:14):
Yeah. I kind of wonder about that as well.
Speaker 1 (55:17):
I just like I think the Colts, even with missing
guys Joel, have been pretty fortunate so far to be
three and zero and to have sustained this one may
be tough, and I guess I also kind of magnify
what the Rams went through last week and how they
got beat on, probably the bad beat of the season
(55:39):
and the NFL, and how they went down against the
former Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles has a little bit
more inspiration and making this even more difficult coming up
on Sunday than that what it might have been had
they had won. For example, Joel in Philadelphia, lets pass up.
Speaker 9 (55:57):
I think the biggest thing that sticks out to me
is just that Matt Stafford seems to me and this
Rams offense seems to me to be kind of Some
of this is a pendant, of course then Devonte Adams,
but Matt Stafford seems like he's the kind of quarterback
who might give this defense shovele if they can't get
a pass rust going. Because I was talking earlier about
(56:17):
time to throw, Matt Stafford is third in the NFL
in time to throw. He's getting the ball out really quick.
Speaker 8 (56:22):
I think he's only been sacked five times.
Speaker 9 (56:24):
They've got issues on the offensive line, but so did
Tennessee and it wasn't like the Colts were getting a
bunch of sudden pressure on Tennessee. The sacks they got
were kind of second effort after cam Warden started scrambling
around the way Stafford is currently playing, They're not going
to be opportunities for that because he's not going to
be scrambling around. He's gonna get the ball out of
his hands. So I just kind of think that this matchup,
(56:45):
it goes against what we've seen from the Colts defense
so far. And the other thing is it's going to
be hard for lou An Rumo to fool a guy
like Stafford who's been in the NFL for ever. You know,
he started, he started I think when I was I
think he.
Speaker 8 (57:00):
Got in the NFL when I was still covering. Yes,
he's not even the SEC.
Speaker 9 (57:03):
I might have been in Texas covering high school football
when he's got in the NFL.
Speaker 1 (57:07):
Yeah, I would agree, it's going to be very difficult. Plus,
you know, the last time we saw rookie Puka Nakua,
he was like running wild through the landscape of the
cold secondary doing whatever he wanted to do. And you
know that's that's something you also have to focus in
on coming up on Sunday. Significantly, Joel as well.
Speaker 8 (57:26):
Yeah, Niko is great.
Speaker 3 (57:28):
He's just great.
Speaker 9 (57:29):
He's a guy who's got a really good feel for coverages,
where to get open. They move him all over the place,
they find ways to get the ball in his hands.
Speaker 8 (57:39):
He's a great player and a real tough, tough task
for the secondary.
Speaker 2 (57:45):
So, Joey Erickson of The Star and Chris, you got
first in Joel.
Speaker 1 (57:49):
With your hairt hell, I don't even know if I
can remember what you were to have more hair.
Speaker 10 (57:54):
In the interview with Joel than I do the rest
of the show, especially if you can notice it.
Speaker 1 (57:59):
So, hey, trendy Club, are you and uh Nate going
to this weekend in southern California?
Speaker 9 (58:05):
My My current plan is actually to meet up with
the with with Chris's colleague, with my colleagues from the
TV station and go to the Angels Astros game.
Speaker 8 (58:15):
That's my current plan.
Speaker 2 (58:17):
Oh really, why don't you guys go to like a bar, you.
Speaker 9 (58:22):
Get some late get some late seasons playoff stakes baseball.
Speaker 2 (58:27):
Meaningful game.
Speaker 3 (58:29):
Still in it.
Speaker 2 (58:31):
I was thinking more Strip Club, but I guess I'm
out on that. That's come on, that's not really my thing.
Speaker 1 (58:38):
Joe, Hey, Joe, Hey, Joe, wait wait until you hang
around me for a while. Okay, buddy, why do you
think he never comes to the show. John, Hey, I've
watched the movie with Rob Low and James S. Bader
Bad Influence, and I'm the Rob Low right there. I'm
your bad influence. But you'll have fun in the process.
(58:59):
But you can blame it all on me.
Speaker 2 (59:01):
That'll be okay.
Speaker 8 (59:03):
I don't know, I don't know.
Speaker 10 (59:06):
I don't know, all right, Joel, we'll see if you're
losing a streak of picks comes through again, we'll see
what happens.
Speaker 2 (59:11):
Ahi, Joel Man, we appreciate your brother.
Speaker 8 (59:14):
Don't say I have to be real happy with my pick.
So far, I'm making them win.
Speaker 1 (59:19):
You are, Hey, one of these days you got to
join us out. Okay, Bud, I will absolutely
