Speaker 1 (00:00):
With us.
Speaker 2 (00:00):
Now, first time he was on, he was outstanding. Mooney
is in the house with us right now. From that
cold secondary, you get yourself an interception this afternoon.
Speaker 3 (00:10):
I finally got me one. Man, finally got me one.
Speaker 2 (00:12):
We're feeling good about that. I didn't get shared. I
had like a twenty yard scope right here, so I
didn't see it. Explained it to the right folks.
Speaker 3 (00:20):
Oh yeah, we were just in my version of cover
to good disguise about the entire defense great called by
coach lew and we sold all our pressure on a
on the snap. I came down kind of played cover
to a kind of food office a little bit, and
he gave me a good, good little Christmas present, a
good gift.
Speaker 2 (00:36):
Yes, so you mentioned coach lou. How has your acclamation
been to his defensive philosophies.
Speaker 3 (00:42):
Oh it's been fun, man, it's been challenging to it.
At the same time, it's a completely different scheme than
what I played last year, the past three years with
the forty nine is own. We'll press seem now. You
know a lot of a lot of man and man.
I think I heard around the building that we didn't
play a lot of man and man last year coach,
So coach lou Man, he aggressive man and like he's
not scared to get up there and China this guys,
no matter who to receive, who the quarterback is. So
(01:04):
it's been fun to acclimator, you know, kind of relearn
how to play man and man in their press technique.
Speaker 1 (01:08):
So we talked about this.
Speaker 2 (01:09):
We're a basketball fan and we were talking about that
before we got back here. Like they played a lot
of zone in the past, and now it's a lot
more Manda man. Are there like applicables you could make
from basketball terminology to football terminology defensively and from a
Manda man.
Speaker 3 (01:28):
Yeah, it's kind of playing corner is the exact same
as playing defens basketball. He's basically just standing in front
of in front of a man the whole game. So
you got to have real, real good larder of movement.
That's like the main thing when it comes to playing
press man in corner. Have good eyes, eyes on the
hills and you know, real good larder movements, some quickness
and his closness. And I think if you rip it
every day, it's not that it's not that bad to do.
Speaker 1 (01:49):
I don't know if you.
Speaker 2 (01:49):
Want to say this because I know you guys don't
like to give up this information.
Speaker 1 (01:53):
But who's the toughest.
Speaker 2 (01:55):
To cover, the toughest the cover in the league, in
the league, not just out here but anywhere.
Speaker 3 (02:01):
I don't know if you're gonna like my answer, but
I kind of don't like putting putting guys on a pedestal,
you know, even.
Speaker 1 (02:07):
Well, that's why that's why I phrased it in the
fashion idea.
Speaker 3 (02:09):
Even though like I'm competing against them, so I kind
of want to look at them. It's like they're on
the same level as me, you know what I mean.
So I don't want to say this guy is super
hard to come and put them like on a pedestal
under everybody else.
Speaker 1 (02:20):
So that's why I phrased it that way.
Speaker 3 (02:21):
I just feel like me, I can cover anybody in
the league long as I got good ays and good technique,
and I think i'd be I can win not a
percent of my matchup.
Speaker 2 (02:28):
Do you ever hear other corners give a name and
go I don't know about that.
Speaker 3 (02:32):
Yeah, man, a lot of guys, they top five guys,
but it's like kind of like you kind of like
making them a id you kind of like idolizing them, belove. Yeah,
even though you know, you got to respect everybody game
in the league because a lot of guys present a
lot of different different challenges. Like it's a lot of
six four six five guys, big guys. Then it's a
lot of guys that run four two four three, so
and it's quick guys to it at the same time,
So a lot of guys present different challenges. But you know,
(02:52):
I mean, I just try to go in and study
every game my opponent, and you know, as long as
I do that to know the game I'm going to
going up against, how I win A lot.
Speaker 2 (02:59):
Of you feel like before every game you know exactly
where the person you're going to be on is going.
Speaker 1 (03:03):
Every step. I mean, can you predict it?
Speaker 3 (03:05):
Yeah, not every step, but you can get a pretty
good feel for the guy. You know what I'm saying me,
I've been in the league for eight years now, so
you know, I done played a lot of ball at
the highest level, two pre Super Bowls, a lot of
playoff games too, so I kind of like know a
lot of the guys in the league tendency, So you know,
dis experience helped me out a lot for sure.
Speaker 1 (03:21):
How much watching tape does that help? How much?
Speaker 2 (03:24):
Just as you mentioned going through the process of playing,
how much is it?
Speaker 3 (03:27):
Oh yeah, just watch the tape. It's basically like studying
for a tests in college. You know, we out went
to college and trying to I was final. So it's
just like kind of taking the tests in colleges knowing
what you're getting, kind of trying to know that guy's movements,
you know his tails and everything like that, and it'll
put you in good situations during the game.
Speaker 2 (03:41):
It's mooney with us for the cold secondary again, the
joint practice coming up against the Packers on Thursday, and
then preseason game two coming up on Saturday.
Speaker 1 (03:50):
Are you playing on Saturday? Yeah, we know.
Speaker 3 (03:52):
I don't know yet. To be honest, man, do you
want to play on Saturday?
Speaker 1 (03:55):
You're not cool? I'm playing at the preseason.
Speaker 3 (03:56):
I don't mind playing in the preseason, man, kind of
get you lighted up and ready for the season. You
definitely want to be ready for the season and try
to stay healthy and everything like that. But the coach
stores out there for a driver is to be ready.
Speaker 2 (04:07):
Is there something to be said about being better prepared
when you get some preseason working whether it comes to
covering or tackling or recognizing.
Speaker 1 (04:15):
Is there something to be said about that?
Speaker 3 (04:16):
Yeah, it's basically kind of like find twenty of your skills,
you know, getting your own reaction time downpack kind of
sometimes in practice against going against the same people over
and over again, it can kind of gets still. You
can't know what's coming out of time. So just going
to getting a different look against different team, it kind
of ups your intensity a little bit, you know what
I mean. So that definitely helps.
Speaker 2 (04:34):
Out a lot of reason why to bring that up
is and you probably are aware of this, there has
been a start of the seasons struggle around here forever
for the coach and week number one forever. Really we
were trying to think about ways and means in which
you can go about.
Speaker 3 (04:47):
Changing that up, maybe changing that this year man, and
we were looking forward.
Speaker 2 (04:54):
Man, do you feel that here? I mean, you know
better than anybody else. Do you kind of feel that
out here right now?
Speaker 3 (04:59):
Which is definitely man, I feel it for my leader, man,
the head coach. Man. You know, he he got a
sense of urgenty by hisself, you know, he kind of
like sprinkling that down to you know, every every group
on the field, every position group on the field, team meets.
You know, he trying to create their edge every day
in practice. So it's definitely since the urgency around here
and we're trying to come out strong.
Speaker 2 (05:16):
I see uh different from Kyle Shanahan, for example, Uh
in what ways you mean?
Speaker 1 (05:20):
Personality wise, coaching style?
Speaker 3 (05:23):
I mean, it's a lot of differences. It's a lot
of differences. I just feel like they're both great coaches.
I kind of don't really know how to compare them obsoletely.
Coach Shannan been doing it for a little bit longer.
He's been, you know, to a little more Super Bowls
and want a little bit more. But I definitely feel
like coach Shannan, I mean not Coachannan, but coach Stiken
coming into his own and you know, he gonna we're
gonna shine this year. And big Red, big, big, big
(05:49):
red legendary man. I love, I love coach and Reed
Man he loved me too. I talked to him a
few times since I left the Chief, So I had
a pretty good relationship with all the coaches that I've
been with. I think I've been with some of two
Hall of Fame coaches so far in my career in coaching,
and the coach read so hopefully coach Psyche, you know
we can get to the Super Bowls and he getting
you know, up his legend status too.
Speaker 2 (06:09):
We talked about this back, I think in March when
when you proved yourself, when you felt you kind of
flipped that switch, improved yourself for the NFL.
Speaker 1 (06:16):
What moment was that? And I'm assuming it was in
Kansas City.
Speaker 3 (06:19):
Uh you remember, I feel like kind of like my
fourth and Kansas City. Man, I didn't get many accolades
my fourth year in Kansas City, but my coaches started
to begin to trust me to travel with the number
on receiver every game, you know what I mean. And
that's like, oh snap, like I'm CB one now, you
know what I mean. So I got to come out
of every game knowing on third down on backside by myself,
the ball coming my way, and most of the times
I was making plays that year. So that led me
(06:40):
to get in a real big, you know, a nice contract,
the forty nine. So once I got paid, man, I
just kept trying to get better and better than Eventually
you know, went ap on them.
Speaker 2 (06:48):
What were were they disappointed? When you left initially the
forty nine ers. Yeah, yeah, I think.
Speaker 3 (06:53):
I mean I was disappointed that was disappointed, you know,
because it was it was a good person on in
business relationship both ways. I feel like we both won.
You know, I want, you know, financially, and they want
you know, by the way I played. So it was
it was a real, real good relationship with the for
the Niners.
Speaker 2 (07:06):
You mentioned that that you thought initially back in free
agency you were going to New Orleans.
Speaker 3 (07:11):
Yeah, I thought I was going to New Orleans. It
was because they did.
Speaker 1 (07:15):
They come at your heart.
Speaker 3 (07:16):
Yeah, they did.
Speaker 1 (07:17):
Man.
Speaker 3 (07:17):
It was kind of like, you know, going through what
I went through last year, my biggest My biggest thing
was like location, you know what I'm saying. I kind
of want to be here around my family. So I'm
from Mississippi, which is two hours from New Orleans, my
hometown to call Messippi, and I stay in Dallas now
which is only like an hour and held flight from
New Orleans. So I kind of wanted to be down there.
But I mean the coach Kane, the coach Kine, that
was like maybe want you, we need it. So I
(07:38):
was like, let's do it. They get it done. In
that blue. Now, I mean.
Speaker 1 (07:46):
You're you're looking, you're looking at the secondary. They came
at you and cam really hard.
Speaker 3 (07:51):
Yeah, man, we got it.
Speaker 1 (07:52):
We gotta come out of dude to your left right there.
That that brings a lot of force up.
Speaker 3 (07:55):
Big grown, big grold, fun guy man, fun gotta be around.
That's why I hear like Peter Griffin. You know, family guy.
You know everybody love him many man.
Speaker 1 (08:07):
Not does he do an impression or family got impression? No,
that's what you like that we get the fun love. Yeah,
you have somebody to keep it loose.
Speaker 3 (08:14):
Yeah, he brings the joy to everybody here around man,
everybody's I would assume.
Speaker 1 (08:18):
Though, you gotta have somebody like growth to keep it loose.
Speaker 2 (08:20):
But you can't have somebody that keeps a loose not
perform at a high level on the field either.
Speaker 1 (08:24):
I mean you got to bring the both, don't you.
Speaker 3 (08:25):
He definitely a big dog own it off the field.
Speaker 2 (08:27):
Man.
Speaker 3 (08:27):
You know, everybody respect him on the field out the field.
So I look forward to seeing seeing my boy make
some players calls some heavo this season. Man, get some
SAgs when I stop everything like that.
Speaker 1 (08:35):
How can you tell him camp that you have a
defense that's coming along.
Speaker 3 (08:39):
Just the intensity, man, just the intensity and the energy,
you know, everybody celebrating. We make players having fun, you know,
just having that swag, playing with confidence and not being
scared of nobody. Nothing, not complaining about calls, you know,
Like I said, man, is just the energy and enthusiasm.
Speaker 1 (08:52):
Has he made wings for you over there yet?
Speaker 3 (08:54):
Made wings? What you mean chicken wings? Growth?
Speaker 1 (08:58):
Nah?
Speaker 3 (08:59):
Nazi, I gotta felt you look to the crib. He
got to invite me to the crib.
Speaker 2 (09:02):
He's like, wait a minute, you haven't invited him over
yet to That's all I hear about from everybody around here.
Speaker 3 (09:06):
I gotta I gotta go. We've been killed though, so
I'm introducing you. We ain't really Yeah, we're gonna were gonna,
you know, enjoy it during the season for sure.
Speaker 1 (09:16):
When we When was that they did that story? Was
that last year or two years? No, it was Hard
Knocks man.
Speaker 3 (09:21):
I didn't watch the Hard Knocks man, I didn't.
Speaker 1 (09:23):
Was it was? It was Hard Knocks a couple of
years ago. Cooking that chicken that was the best. That's
the best part of the.
Speaker 3 (09:29):
Chef Stewart that I tell you. I'm gonna take it out.
I'm gonna take it.
Speaker 2 (09:33):
So you're you're a basketball guy. You mentioned I think
the first time we talked to you, a lebron guy.
But you got to tell me you fell in love
with a little blue and gold, did you not?
Speaker 3 (09:42):
Yes, Tommy, man them boys cooking them boys and bottling.
So I was rooting for him. You know, sad to
see tigers go down, but man, they play hard. They
made it to the finals. I'm looking forward to see,
you know, the boys get back healthy and making them
to sit down.
Speaker 1 (09:54):
And you guys got to take that baton and like
run with it.
Speaker 3 (09:57):
We gotta hold up by end of the bargain. Man
on the grid isn the field, I think we would issue.
I think we would issue. We gotta say we got
a real good chance. Like I said, we just got
to go out there and prove ourself every day.
Speaker 1 (10:05):
You're finding your way around here too, a.
Speaker 3 (10:08):
