gets a couple of days off. And believe it or not,
it's kind of so sort of a slower week for me.
I was happy to come in here for a couple
of days. So you can tell which days John isn't
on remote this week because he's taking those two days off.
If John's working this week Monday, Thursday, Friday, there is

someplace you can go to hang out with him. The
days where we are in the drive Hubler dot Com studios,
well that would be me Greg Reikstraw, a substitute teacher,
extra extra large, something like that, filling in on the

to five of the Fan. And obviously we're in a
pretty good time of life to be a sports fan

in Indianapolis. There have been peaks, there have been valleys.
We are riding the Crest High right now with the
Indianapolis Colts. My voice is always a broadcaster voice. I
get that it's on twenty four seven, three sixty five,
like literally, but one of a broadcaster's favorite phrases, if
the season ended today, say it with me in your car.

If the season ended today, the Indianapolis Colts would be
the number one seed in the AFC. Now, there's like
thirteen weeks of the season left to go, there's like
twelve games, so let's not get too crazy with it.
But it beats the alternative. So life is good if
you're a Colts fan. Hope spring's eternal for the Indiana Pacers.

think this is a playoff team. We should be excited
about the fact the NBA season starts tonight on Understanmtion
Schiell down on the dumps because of the circumstances of
how last year ended. But I'm thrilled the Pacers are
back on ninety three to five and one seven to

five of the fan. I joked with Eddie Garrison as
he walked out of the studio, it's a big break.
He got there like seven days between the fever and
the Pacers season. That's the hashtag first world problems you
want to have if you're the folks at Pacer Sports Entertainment.

up at four thirty. So of just general colts conversation,
isn't enough to wet your whistle if the idea that
the Pacer season is already upon us like literally thirteen
fourteen weeks from when it ended, since it made it

the Indiana Hoosiers are playing in a game that's on
national television that is good enough to merit college game Day.
They're unbeaten again, and there clearly is a path for
them to be back in the college football playoff, not
just make a goal a bowl game, make a playoff

Or maybe maybe you're fired up about the fact that
it's October and that means playoff baseball. Now, I will
admit to you I do not watch the level of
Major League Baseball anywhere close to what I used to,

a pretty good amount of intelligence. And literally I saw
somebody wearing his jersey as I walked in. You all
know Scotty j. The brain's the operation. You're at ninety

you may not know is that Scott's attire almost every day,
not every day, but pretty dog on close. Is some

random Jersey Having a Drew store in Jersey here would
not be random. Having a Drew store in Toronto Blue
Jays Jersey, that would be a little random. You didn't
exactly pitch for the Blue Jays all that long these days,
of course, a field of dreams, whiskey, and apparently Keanu
Reeves is a fan of his. Drew Storin joins us

at four o'clock to talk playoff baseball, and then I
mentioned Colts. Yeah, this station kind of reminds you that
a lot Colts Colts, Colts, Colts, Colts. Obviously that is
my life too. I'll be on these airwaves for nearly
three hours talking about hopefully another Colts win on Sunday'll
be at the Colts Complex tomorrow for the Neighborhood three hours,
just because it's a Wednesday and I got nothing else

better to do. I hang out at practice and listen
to Shane Steichen and talk to Daniel Jones, et cetera, well,
a member of those Colts, in fact, perhaps the longest
tenured member of the Colts. I think he and Grover
Stewart would qualify of that. Moley Cox will join us

school football. Obviously the high school football season winding down.

of things to talk about and then preparing for this show,
like mentally because I write any notes or anything like
that or type up or anything along those lines. But

in terms of just you know, having a good think
about today's show. You've heard me say this, and I
use this phrase in different programs, iterations, lines of thinking,
et cetera. The word formulaic and that an NFL schedule
or week is like that, and if, like you play

a day or two later, you'll hear a phrase, well,
Thursday is our Wednesday. In other words, that's the day
that everybody kind of starts really practicing getting ready. The
same can kind of hold true for the things that
you talk about, Like I almost felt the need in
my daily talk show days, which clearly I keep myself
on a microphone on a regular basis, But in terms

of hosting a show like this one, good god, I'm old.
It's been sixteen years since I was the host of
a daily program, but you would almost always on a
Tuesday feel the need to kind of recap the Monday
night football game from the night before, even in this
time slot that game has been over now for the

(08:13):
better part of sixteen hours, but it was the capstone
on the NFL week and in my days of hosting
a talk show, which basically went from two thousand through
two thousand and nine, I was lucky enough that the
Indianapolis Colts made the playoffs in nine of those ten
years and won at least twelve games in seven of

(08:38):
the last seven years. Frankly of that nine year run
that I had as a daily sports talk show host
here in Indianapolis. And so you recap the Way to
Night Football game if the Colts weren't in it, because
generally you were gonna be thinking about, hey, how does
this good team because usually good teams playing Way to
Night football, if not great teams playing when football, how

(09:01):
do they stack up with our great football team? And
happy days are here again because or what's old is
new again, because that's where we are again. I'll reference
the stat from a few minutes ago if the season
ended today, which it doesn't. Far from it, it's like
a whole other year from now. The cult of the

(09:23):
number one seed. In other words, we are back to
the point of caring what the other really good teams
do in the AFC, and it appears one of the
other really good teams is also in the same division,
but not necessarily the team that we thought it was

(09:43):
going to be, although that team that I reference in
the Houston Texans, put up forty four on a team
that is going through an injury wise and maybe has
hit the end of kind of their run, being the
Baltimore Ravens. But the Texans are two and three and
they are two games back of our I think I'm
safe to say that here Indianapolis Colts and the Jacksonville Jaguars.

You know, what we thought we knew about the AFC
South going into the year was, Hey, the Texans are
probably the favorites. The Titans are going to stink, and
even they one on Sunday that has kind of been confirmed.
And then the Jaguars and the Colts were not quite sure,
not quite sure. Well, the two teams that we weren't

(10:30):
sure about are surely having the best record in the
entire AFC. They have a four to one mark, just
like the Buffalo Bills do. Steelers are three in one,
and I think I have been able to rattle off
all of the one loss teams currently in the AFC.

(10:51):
That's it, and that's all and the way that you
know that the sky is a little bit blue, the
little more bright. The birds are chirping a little more loudly.
If you're a Colts fan because your team is four
and one, they feel the exact same way today in
North Florida, And was yesterday perfect for the Jaguars. No,

they threw a late pick that got him back in
the game. But man, there were two throws that Trevor
Lawrence made on that last drive We're pretty remarkable. A
deep ball down the right side to Thomas Stellar. The
out that got them inside of the five yard line
wasn't too far off of that one. And good on

(11:38):
the guy that resembles Ronnie Bassin's Sunshine because he had
a great moment of honesty when he trips, falls, realizes
hey plays that over, yet gets back up. A couple
of defensive linemen had kind of stopped playing because Franklin.
They were stunned at what they had seen, and Trevor
Lawrence scores what ends up being the game winning touchdown.

Here what I said to Jake a few minutes to go,
Patton pending on the stumble Ruski, the unintentional delay draw
that Trevor Lawrence ran yesterday and the Jaguars found a
way to beat the Chiefs. Other thing I will point
out about the Chiefs. The Chiefs this year maybe are
reminiscent of the twenty ten Indianapolis Colts. And let me

(12:24):
explain in two thousand and nine, because again we were
so spoiled, we had so many great years, you know,
and when the Colts were one to o two and
oh three, and I was say, first time since two
thousand and nine. Now it's the best record of a
start of a season since twenty thirteen. But the two
thousand and nine Colts were a little bit different than

(12:44):
even some of the other great teams that Peyton, Manning, Reggie, Wayne,
Dallas Clark, Jeff Saturday and larger group were a part
of for the decade before. The two thousand and nine
Indianapolis Colts won a lot of one score games, and
I thought that Peyton kind of had to carry that
group more than even when he was so great in

(13:05):
other years. Maybe two thousand and nine more MSCs was
more about Peyton and they were fourteen and zero. Obviously
pulled the plug Jets bills you know the rest of
the story, but still made the super Bowl, yet they
weren't the heavy favorite going to said Super Bowl the
way they were three years earlier when they were playing

(13:27):
the Chicago Bears. The next year, injuries did play a
factor in this, but the Colts went ten and six.
They were still a playoff team, but they were not
what they had been. And I kind of think that's
where we are with the Kansas City Chiefs. The Chiefs
had this staggering record last year in one score games.

(13:50):
I think they were eleven to zero in one score
games of their fifteen regular season wins. They made the
Super Bowl, but they were not the better team. And
when you have that sort of a record in one
score games, at some point in time, that pendulum starts
to swing back in the other direction. And that's kind

of where the Chiefs are now. Now, still a very
good football team, It's gonna be a very difficult game
for the Colts, and again, the Colts play there coming
off of a buy. The Colts go to Kansas City
on November the twenty third. But we'll talk more about
them as we go along, but the battle has been
joined for the feel good story that the Indianapolis Colts

(14:33):
are in twenty twenty five. The Jacksonville Jaguars are singing
a very similar tune, and so this has shades of
the early days of the AFC South. The Colts and
Jaguars usually were the two best teams. We shouldn't run

(14:54):
off the Texans just yet, but these two stories are
neck and neck, and so now you're at a point
for the Colts where it's not just about how how
did you do on Sunday? That's the players focus. We
as fans don't have to live by that same mantra.
We can kind of look around and enjoy this. You're
hearing the national folks talk about your team more often.

(15:17):
It's not just us on the fan. You know various
power rankings that Ember stocking to put into those. I
thought about doing a set of my own today, but
you know, day job got in the way. Again. I
think I think the Cults are pretty good football team.

(15:38):
I have seen them rted as you know some power
ranking SASM, third, fourth, fifth, All of us would take
that going into the season. But they're joined by the Jags.
And again, when the season began and we talked about
kind of the the quirkiness, the uniqueness of this Cult
schedule is, hey, just be on the dance floor. From

a competitive standpoint in the AFC South, when people thought
the ceiling for this group was a ten win team.
Because you've got the Texans on Thanksgiving weekend, You've got
the Jaguars on December the seventh, Then you have the
Jaguars back here December to twenty eighth, and you go
to Houston on January fourth to cap off the regular season.

(16:27):
Now the conversation looks a little bit different. Now you're
talking about hey Man going to Jacksonville on December to seventh.
That could be for the AFC South Championship. That could be,
could be it's early, could be for the number one
seed in the AFC playoffs, could be for a home

(16:49):
playoff game at Lucas Oil for the first time this
twenty fourteen. Dare to dream right again. There's there's a
lot of things that will take place from now until then.
But it's okay to be thinking about that, okay to
kind of have those conversations. I'm happy to have those

got my attention. We all knew that the Bengals, after
seeing the way they had played over the course of
the last two or three games since the Joe Burrow injury,
that they needed to do something. We actually saw Jake
Brining play against Colts a couple of years ago and
played well late in the season, but there's only so

(17:57):
much you're going to get out of a backup quarterback
and kind of knowing what's at stake Everyboddy in Cincinnati
this year, the words you could be on the presipice
of kind of changing a roster and changing a coaching
staff and things of that nature. And given how early
in the season, but you know, the prognosis for Joe
Burrow is not good for the rest of the year.

(18:17):
They had to make a move and go get somebody. Well,
you know that the general somebody that we thought it
was going to be was going to be Russell Wilson.
He's no longer needed in New York they've went ahead
and made the move to Jackson Dart. They still have
Jamis Winston. I'm not sure how much. I'm not sure

(18:38):
if Russ can still cook her. He has just cooked
at this point. But everybody thought that would be the
guy to be the new quarterback of the Bengals, right, No,
Bengals un got a veteran. But it's a guy that
we know well from being here here. She hadn't heard.
Joe Flacco is now a member of the Cincinnati Bengals.
And again a bit of a history lesson for those

of you that are saying younger than me. This is
the first trade between the Bengals and the Browns. Browns
as in Paul Brown. Paul Brown got run by Art
Modell at some point in time in the early sixties.
He ends up landing with the new franchise in the AFL,

(19:19):
being the Cincinnati Bengals. He tried to make the Bengals
look as much like the Cleveland Browns as he was
legally allowed to get away with. I mean, it's always interesting,
right that the god of the Ohio football, as in
Paul Brown, the Browns would come to play the Bengals
at Paul Brown stadium. It has since been you know,
changed in terms of a corporate name. But you get

the idea. Those two don't like each other very much.
Those two don't work together, but the unique marriage of
the Browns want to hand the ball off to their
young quarterbacks, whether it's Gabriel or Shoode or Sanders have
realized they don't have a need for Joe Flah anymore

and are happy to stop paying Joe Flacco to ship
him to the Cincinnati Bengals, And so that trade happened
earlier today. Now how much does that have a Hillebean's
difference on what the remainder the season is going to
look like for the Bengals. I'm not sure what's that

(20:21):
going to mean for the Colts. Maybe nothing, because again,
the Bengals are a couple of games back. I'm not
sure if those two teams are kind of existing on
the same plane at this juncture. But the other bit
of news from an NFL standpoint is that Joe Flacca
was on the move and making the move from Cleveland
to Cincinnati. I don't know if Joe bought a house

here or is renting here. I hope his real estate
situation was even more fluid in Cleveland, because my guest
would have been when Joe signed to be the guy
with the Cleveland Browns, he knew at some point in
time they would make the move and hand the ball
to one of the young guys. He probably thought, you
know what, either I'm going to be benched and I'll

be the wise old sage for the remainder of the season,
or he was going to be cut and kind of
free to pick his own place where he would go.
Probably didn't guess he was going to be traded at
some point in time during the course of the season,
and then it would happen before we got to week six,

literally before he got to the one third marker of
the season. But that happened earlier today as well. So
I think you're all caught up from the NFL standpoint.
So it's October, it's Indianapolis, and our team is four
and one. You better believe the cult's gonna be a

I don't know if you're working for the weekend already
on a Tuesday. I think I know somebody that is
working this weekend. I do that a lot, you know,
work in sports is what happens. But this is not
official from the Indianapolis Colts. But given the source, I
have no doubt about the veracity of this subject. In

case you were wondering, because the Colts will currently have
a kicker on their roster. Apparently they're about too and
it's one you have seen in uniform for the Indianapolis
Colts before. This is from Joel A. Ericsson via the
Indianapolis Star. The Colts are bringing in Michael Badgeley to
be the new kicker of the Indianapolis Colts given the

season ending injury suffered by Spencer Schrader on the black
kick attempt in the first half of the game against
the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday. Badgely kicked for the
Colts in twenty twenty one, but his relationship with the
Colts goes back to twenty eighteen and seemingly for many
years the guy that would come in and be the

camp leg to thin down the workload on Adam VINATTERI
that guy would be really good and kick for somebody else.

You know.

Badgley was of that group. Brandon McManus was of that group.
I'm sure there are others that I am spacing up
the top my head. But Badgeley's NFL journey began being
the camp kicker for the Colts in twenty eighteen. Obviously
didn't make the team then, but then went on to
be the kicker for the Los Angeles Chargers for the
better part of the next three years. Came in to

replace Rodrigo Blankenship for a chunk of twenty twenty one.
Spent time with both the Bears as well as the
Detroit Lions. Missed all of last year due to an injury.
Badgely is thirty years of age. His career makes eighty

(24:37):
two percent now in terms of his range from fifty plus.
It's not been the best five for thirteen, but again,
you are going deeper into the pool of active kickers.
And one thing that happens is that team have you

know their kicker. Obviously everybody has one that's thirty two.
If we had an intern, I would send him to
research this stat Right now, James is too busy. He's
got to read me text and things like that and
answer the phone when Momley Cox calls any moment now.
But I would guess that half the NFL teams are

more stash an additional kicker on their practice squad. In
other words, you're going like fifty deep once you have
to go out and get somebody in the middle of
the season. So the money Badger Michael Badgeley again not
official yet, but it's been reported.

Give credit to the words due Joeli ericson saying it
that he will be the new kicker of the Indianapolis Colts,
and frankly, I vividly remember this will HARKing you back
a little bit the days of Grady and Big Joe
on ten seventy the fan and Joe would have his
slow jam and one of them during the preseason was

Michael Badgeley, and he basically goes, Hey, what's you know,
what's this experience like knowing you're not gonna make the roster,
and the kid kind of stuttered and stammered like, well,
I'm still competing for the job, and we're like, that's
probably not the way it works around here, buddy. But
clearly that that confidence has led him to having an

NFL career where he has appeared in sixty four games
over the course of six different NFL seasons, and it
looks like he'll be the guy that gets to come
on down. In terms of one of the kicking battle,
eight different kickers were a part of a tryout, or
at least were contacted. No, I'll read from Joel's story properly,

eight kickers tried out this morning, So even though it
was an off day for the players, wasn't exactly an
off day at West fifty sixth Street. A guy who
is taking time on his off day to chat with
me is a part of his best start in his
now nine years with the Indianapolis Colts. It is Moli
Cox that joins us on the Andy Moore Automotive Group hotline, Moe,

how are we doing today?

Speaker 6 (27:15):
I'm doing good?

Speaker 1 (27:16):
How you doing? I'm doing fine? You just heard that
stat This is the best start you have been a
part of. What how is life treating you after five
weeks of this season?

Speaker 6 (27:27):
Feeling pretty good? Honestly, you know, just got to keep
it going, but definitely definitely feeling great right now. Waking
up a lot happier at the start of the season.

Speaker 1 (27:35):
The obvious answer to this is wins. That's what's different
about five weeks in versus at times in previous years.
What are the things that you were noticing during the
week in games that are leading you to that that
maybe you hadn't seen in previous editions of this team.

Speaker 6 (27:54):
I would say, we're just more so focused on our
process instead of the end result. You know, just going
to going about our DA day to day activity more diligently,
and different things like that. Practicing a lot harder, and
then a bunch of guys we just hang out more
off the field and things like that, so building that chemistry.
And it's been like that since OTA's.

Speaker 1 (28:15):
All right with that, Let's talk about the guys in
the room. And obviously everybody's got their attention on the
other guy that is out there with you more than
anybody else in the tight end position, that is Tyler Warren.
At what point in time when he got to town
in late April early May, did you realize, hey, we
got something special here.

Speaker 6 (28:35):
Shoot, probably like his first or second practice. I mean,
he came in making plays from day one. Coach coach
calls coach dollad it up for him and whenever his
numbers called you, he always made something happen. And as
a rookie, you know that's something that's something that helps
build your confidence early, because I mean, if you don't
have success early, it might you might get down in

(28:56):
the dumps and stuff like that. But I think he's
made h We've all trusted from day one, put a
lot on his plate, and he's unhandled it appropriately.

Speaker 1 (29:03):
Now he is a key cog of the team. But
you've touched on a word, he is still a rookie.
What's any sort of rookie duties that he has to
perform for the other guys in the tight end rumor
as he passed that at this.

Speaker 6 (29:16):
Point, nah, I mean, you know, our room is pretty chill,
so we don't make anybody do anything crazy. I think
that stends from having Jack in the room for so
long and Jack not having me do anything, so I
don't really make him do anything. The only thing he
really has to do is make sure we all have
our towels after practice and stuff like that. But other
than that, yeah, and as some snacks in the room,

(29:37):
But other than that, we don't make him do anything.

He's had a couple of things to do, so he's
not off the hook completely, but nothing embarrassed completely.

Speaker 6 (29:42):
But it's nothing crazy.

Was there any part of you when he gets drafted
you go, well, they're going my catches or is it immediately?
You know what? This guy's going to help us win.
That's all I need to do.

Speaker 6 (29:55):
I'm definitely gonna be This guy is definitely gonna win.
I mean I wasn't really too worried about my catches
because I really coached to my role with book being
a block and tight end anyway, so I didn't really
have many catches in the last few years. So I mean,
it's good to get that new f tight end in
the room because I still my role really hasn't changed.
I'm still primarily in line blocking do it all myself,

(30:16):
but now we have a guy in the room who
can make plays in a passing game, and he can
really do it all, honestly. So if you ever know,
we've done a lot more twelve than thirteen personnel this
year and we've had a lot of success out of.

It with him in the room, I would assume that
you knew this and we all kind of learned this
that if the Colts had attempted a field goal, Drew
would have been the snapper after Spencer got hurt. Is
