the air with you here in Indianapolis, a place where
so many of my dreams have come.
Speaker 6 (00:51):
True with the ride with JMV on ninety three five
and one oh seven five.
Speaker 1 (00:55):
The fans, hey, welcome to the show.
Speaker 5 (00:57):
This officially starts the Labor Day Week Bender, the third annual.
This is a tavern tour stop the legendary Sids. We
are on the square in Noblesville. I know some of
you dig on this weather, but I'm not the biggest fan.
I want August weather to resemble August weather, not April weather.
But it is going to be a fantastic day. I
(01:18):
can tell you this for what is going to take
place at Mystic Waters Campground. This is going to be
an incredible weekend both Friday and Saturday. We'll go into
full detail coming up in a minute, but right now,
your tavern tour stop with Heaven Hill Distillery is on
the square at SIDS. You have plenty of time to
join us, and we would love to see you out here.
(01:39):
Falan's the on site engineer. I know Ethan is rattling
around in here a little bit too, promoting stuff up
in James's back at the studio. I'll give you a
bit of a rundown on who we're going to talk
to letter out today. Of course five o'clock Mike Chappel
what joined us from CBS four in Fox fifty nine,
and we'll go into further detail with Mike regarding this
(02:02):
Washington Post report of the morning. And like I keep
weird hours, and like everybody thinks, I sleep until like
ten or noon, and most of the time I'm up early,
but sometimes I do kind of slide back into the
sack a little bit, especially before a weekend like this,
when I know that there's not going to be a
lot of sleep to be had, and I kind of
(02:24):
prep I'll prep the body a little bit and get
a little bit more rest, and I was hanging out
in there this morning, and I saw that kind of
roll past. I saw the Washington Post writers send it out,
and I'm not going to sit here and tell you, well,
you know what, we knew all this before because it
was it was rarely talked about, and it certainly wasn't
talked about when Jim Mersey passed away back in the
(02:46):
month of May. But there is more to the story,
and I guess the one thing that people are really
going to focus in on, and this is going to
be the first of many, So just be ready. This
will be the first of many because it is a
(03:09):
compelling story, and certainly most compelling stories like this unfortunately
have an incredibly sad ending, and this one does as well.
But a lot of this focus, at least as I
read it, was more on what the colts weren't telling
(03:32):
people and how folks were led. Now I can tell
you this, I would assume most people out there would
not want a lot of their personal business, you know,
being talked about, for example, and they were doing what
(03:52):
they've always done, There's no question about that. But that
is going to be the major focus. It's the Beverly
Hills Hotel. It is the back to back times you
knew about the Carmel incident, going back to twenty twenty three,
there was one down in South Forward in Miami as well,
and then the one that goes all the way back
Turks and Keikos in twenty twenty. Some of these stories
(04:14):
and I listen, you guys are as dialed in as
anybody out there. You hear, and you've approached me about
most of these stories. I do find it interesting because
Jake and I had this conversation of the cross Talk
segment a little bit earlier, brought to you by Love
Hitting an Air LOOVEDASHHVAC dot Com with John and Chris Left.
Today we were having that cross talk about it. And
while he and they continue to try so hard with
(04:39):
kicking the stigma on so many levels of understanding of
dealing with and hopefully being able to overcome, you know,
the biggest focus about this was unfortunately something that Jim
was unable to overcome. So we'll go over this story,
and there's no better person to get into this a
(04:59):
little bit more with and listen, I'm not going to
spend all afternoon on it, but certainly it is a
big storyline here on this Thursday afternoon, and we're fortunately
we have my chapel on who's been here absolutely forever
and can speak on some of this, and we'll also
talk about the Colts in general with Mike coming up
in the five o'clock hour, and I'll give you more
(05:21):
of my thoughts over the course of the afternoon.
Speaker 1 (05:23):
Rock Blackman of the Boilermaker Radio Network.
Speaker 5 (05:26):
Rob Blackman is going to join us coming up in
the five o'clock hour five point thirty. With Ball State
and Purdue coming up this weekend. I should mention the
opening night if you will of football, you get one
on Mike and McKendree coming up six o'clock over at
Indiana State and terre Hate. Certainly a shout out to
(05:46):
the shop brought Ripple and Carmel for these mediums they're
going to ship to me of Indiana State gear.
Speaker 1 (05:54):
Thank you very much Alex and Brian for that.
Speaker 5 (05:56):
And I will say this, I absolutely love the match
up off of Cold Springs Road on the West Side.
Coming up later on this evening at six o'clock. You
have a U Indie and Marion officially underway. I'm a
big fan of Ted Carris and before my show yesterday,
had the opportunity to listen to Jake had that conversation
(06:18):
with Ted Carris. I like him a great deal. And yeah,
certainly both you, Indie and Marian. They hold a lot
in our hearts around here with the local football programs
because more so than anything else, there are so many players,
so much of their personnel have tremendous ties to this area.
I love getting the season started off as they're starting off,
(06:42):
coming up later off to night at six o'clock.
Speaker 1 (06:44):
That is you, Indy and Marian.
Speaker 5 (06:46):
And of course the college football landscape is dotted with
a lot of matchups coming up, and of course this weekend,
this is something we'll get into when I introduce our
guest in just a second. We'll have to get into
some of the betting lines on the games this weekend,
and whether you're talking about Purdue and ball State, or
IU and Old Dominion or Notre Dame in Miami, Clemson
(07:08):
and LSU Texas and Ohio State. When I bring Brent
Halverson on here are betting analysts from heaven Hill Distillery.
We will discuss that coming up in just a bit.
So I mentioned those three guests and then Charles Arbuckle
is going to join me coming up in a couple
of minutes. We'll go over the Colts and they're fifty
three man to date. What he likes, what he doesn't like,
(07:30):
maybe what he feels needs to improve, and of course
the focus on the quarterback situation with Charles Arbuckle, the
former Coats tight end at a part of the Cults
Radio Network's going to join SCNA couple of minutes, but
let's bring him on board. Brent Halverson, our betting analyst
and of course of heaven Hill Distillery, our August Havn
Tours st up is at the legacy eighty years in
(07:53):
counting for sids here in Noblesville.
Speaker 7 (07:55):
John, happy to be here, Good to see my friend.
We've got a long few days in front of us,
looking forward to it all.
Speaker 1 (08:00):
You know what's.
Speaker 7 (08:01):
Exciting is like you said, eighty years and we talked
the Evan Williams Tavern Tour. This is embodies what it's
all about, right, eighty years really shows.
Speaker 1 (08:10):
What an establishment has. Hey, this place is great.
Speaker 7 (08:12):
It's got amazing food, amazing staff back there, amazing guests
that come here. Come out and join us, and let's
get some samples to show you in true SIDS fashion.
Speaker 1 (08:21):
Well it's been here for eighty years.
Speaker 5 (08:22):
Yeah, inside the TRIPLEI membership alowns for me a YouTube
live you could probably see more of breath than you
can of me right now, which I think is absolutely fantastic.
But this really starts a weekend that's like no other
for us together.
Speaker 7 (08:34):
It is, and then we're creeping. This is our third
year now, I mean, it's wild out time flies, right.
We talked about this gonna be an eighth year of
the Larsening Locke Loust Shot Show, which starts next Thursday
at Joe's Grill. But in front of us right now.
Not only we have a tavern tour at SIDS today,
we are at Mystic Waters Campground we Alton for the
next couple nights. Right, so we've got we've got a
(08:56):
show out there tomorrow three to six. We're gonna have
some great food brought out by Taylor's Barn Table and
Angles and our good friend Kyle. And then Saturday, got
some live music out there, and then you're gonna do
your third annual I AM Live Takeover on the Road,
which we've perfected now over the year.
Speaker 5 (09:13):
I think we'll see we got a fingers crossed that
we have perfection working, but it should be a lot
easier than our first two years of discovering stuff discovery.
We were discovering stuff unearthing. Well that's good, but that's
not so good. But yeah, we kind of have this
down to a science now. It really that gets pretty ofto,
(09:34):
it really is.
Speaker 1 (09:34):
There's gonna be a lot out there to celebrate.
Speaker 7 (09:36):
We've got a lot of fun stuff throughout the day,
throughout the night each night, so looking forward to that
as well.
Speaker 1 (09:41):
Looks like the weather's gonna beautiful. You love this weather,
like this weather out here right now. This is great.
Speaker 7 (09:46):
They take the rain away right, it's gone now, which
is good. But this nice breeze at seventy, you know,
mid seventies.
Speaker 5 (09:52):
This is not August, though, brandis gotta be hot and humid, sweaty.
Speaker 1 (09:56):
I've got to be shirtless.
Speaker 7 (09:58):
You know, you can still be sure to be sure,
don't be sure, list my friend, Hey, just think back
the last month and a half, it's been it's been
like haities out there.
Speaker 1 (10:06):
You know, it's been pretty hot. So this is this
is a nice refresher.
Speaker 5 (10:09):
So Brent Olverson, our Betty analyst, Kevin Hill Distillery as well.
We will go over some of these college games. Anything
peak your interest, it should because you do have among
these games, not tonight or of course, just on one
simple date this weekend, but I think periodically throughout the
weekend there are some hellaciously awesome matchup. This is a
fantastic way to get the college football season underway.
Speaker 1 (10:30):
It really is.
Speaker 7 (10:31):
I mean we were talking the big game right that
Texas Ohio State game that kicks tomorrow.
Speaker 1 (10:35):
That's gonna be huge.
Speaker 7 (10:36):
I mean, number one ranked team, number three ranked team,
just going ahead and started early. But there's more than
that you've got. I mean, there's all kinds of big
games out there. You know, LSU, Clemson, you got There's
what's the other game, I'm the night game, I'm I'm
skipping right now, Dame of Miami. I mean that's just
there's three great games that you got to look at.
These they're gonna come out, you know, and a lot
of these games, John starting off, you think they're gonna
(10:59):
come out slow and figure things out, right, They've got
a lot of new things, like what Notre Dame did
in the transfer portal. There's a lot of new pieces
in that puzzle, which I think they're gonna be great.
So I think that we're gonna see some good fireworks.
And again, not a better way to start the true
season out than what we've got on slate first Saturday.
Speaker 1 (11:14):
And that is Brit Holverson, who joins us this afternoon.
We got some guests that are going to join us
here live. We want to see you too.
Speaker 5 (11:20):
Sid's on the Square in Noblesville. This is a tavern
tour stop with heaven Hill Distillery A three one seven
two three nine ten seventy. That is the text line.
If you want to get there and send me some
of what you have to say, we would love to
have you meantime of the Andy Moore AUTOMONIU Group Highline,
former Colts tied end always a friend of this show.
(11:42):
Uh Devil's in now both college football and the NFL
a part of the Cults Radio Network.
Speaker 1 (11:47):
Charles Arbuckle joins us. Charles, good afternoon, How are you.
Speaker 2 (11:51):
I'm good?
Speaker 3 (11:52):
How are you?
Speaker 5 (11:54):
We have a lot of time for you to be
thinking about the start of this season, all right, so
we got over a week to go, and and again
this could be never changing landscape if you will my roster.
But what do you think about the fifty three man
led by Daniel Jones to start the season in Week
one versus Miami under center.
Speaker 8 (12:14):
You know what I mean, we knew that was coming
right for a while. But I will say this, The
one thing that they are doing is it seems like
every defencher back that's been an All.
Speaker 3 (12:24):
Pro or Pro bowler, it's starting to get picked up
or played at a high level, I should say.
Speaker 2 (12:31):
So that's interesting that coach is still trying to make
the gumbo pop.
Speaker 8 (12:37):
I can't get my guy, Matt Taylor, the child only
was cold. We do bumble, so I've seen him about that,
but memble, it's still trying to figure out that back then.
And then also linebacker.
Speaker 3 (12:49):
You know, I mean, the thing is.
Speaker 8 (12:53):
Line doctor position too, and there were some changes.
Speaker 5 (12:57):
There that Hey hey, hey, Charles, hold hold that thought, Charles.
I'm sorry to interrupt all that thought one minute. If
you're on speaker. James put him down, and we wouln't
really want to hear what he has to say, and
it's a touch difficult to hear. I want to make
sure that he is loud and clear to everybody out there.
So James, give me a heads up. When Charles rejoined,
it sounds like he was on speaker and it was
(13:18):
a little bit muddy. And we have to have precision
when it comes to Charles and his breakdown this Coults
team and certainly more important aspects of this roster. Because
as much as we talk about quarterback and Charles was
alluding to the linebacker position too, which seems like an
ever evolving situation. There is a lot to talk about.
(13:40):
I know that you seem as if we're often going
to be critical about it, but there are some aspects
you don't have to be. I want to get back
to Charles Arbuckle the Cults Radio Network. Now you're talking
about the linebacker situation. As I mentioned, as we recalibrated
you here, it seems like the dead is an ever
changing environment.
Speaker 1 (13:58):
With the exception of zyr Frank it right now.
Speaker 2 (14:01):
Yeah, I mean, it seems like huge time they can
you know, I thought that the defensive backs was an
area where they would keep looking, but that linebacker position
has really been one where they're trying to figure that out.
And I think that's the part that you have to
understand and know, Okay, what are we going to do
consistently and how is that going to play out for
the rest going into the season, but also once you get.
Speaker 3 (14:23):
To the season.
Speaker 5 (14:26):
Charles Arbruckle the Coach Radio Network, he's kind of not
to join us on the any morum out of money
if group piline do you like basically what this looks like.
They had turned over the cobbling together of this defense
firmly to lou Enroumo, because this is like a dry
race board reset in a lot of spots, and especially
(14:50):
in terms of trolls. What Enerumo wants clearly as his
personnel in that secondary He wants guys that can, guys
that have been able to cover, and he wants guys
that have shown in the past that they have availability.
So it seems like that he's had a lot to
say in what he has put together here, hasn't he well?
Speaker 2 (15:14):
And I think you know, let's face it, he had
some success and since the even though things didn't end,
probably the way he wanted it to. I think that's
probably why you're seeing that. I mean, you're getting an
opportunity to see a guy that said, hey, look we
performed at a high level and what I had was
a defensive line that could get after the quarterback. I
had guys on the back end that would attack the football.
(15:35):
That was the one thing I saw right away when
I went to practice, their ability to attack and go
after you from their defensive you know, stance and getting
after the quarterback, but not only that, aggressive ball hawks
in the secondary. And we saw a pick six at
the very end. You know, it became contagious, and interceptions
and plays like that are contagious. I can remember when
(15:57):
Reggie Tannon that one year at the very end of
the season, he just got on a tear. It was
because the ball was getting tipped. Ball would go to
him and Ray would take it. He took like two
or three back for touchdowns. I think when you have
a defense that thinks like that and it is aggressive,
and you already have a group of guys that have
scored in their career and now that's what they practice
and that's what they preached. That's what you want to have.
(16:19):
You want to have sudden offense from your defense. You
want to have game changing opportunities from your defense consistently.
And I think that's what this team was trying to
do and that's what they're trying to build.
Speaker 5 (16:29):
Charles Arbuckle, former coach side end at the Colts Radio network.
Speaker 1 (16:33):
He is on the Andy Moore not a motive group pileline.
Speaker 5 (16:35):
You know, there have been situations, Charles, in the past,
you and I have conversed about the Colts and you
have hoped that the quarterback can lift up the skill
position group, for example a wide receiver. But it's almost
like now you're looking at hopefully these skill position group
can lift up the quarterback, because it's more than just
(16:56):
not believing in Richardson is ready right now.
Speaker 1 (16:58):
But the belief is.
Speaker 5 (17:00):
If you stay away from mistakes and make sure guys
are even pre snapping the right spots.
Speaker 1 (17:06):
This team can be successful. So clearly their lean and
their trust is going with maybe a group in the
past we've always felt needed to be upgraded. This year,
not so much. They're really leaning on that, I think,
or leaning into it if you will, in a big way. Charles,
I agree with that, jamb.
Speaker 2 (17:26):
I've told people, you know, Anthony Richardson to play the
part with the Cape. He can play Superman, but he
wasn't playing a good Clark Kent and in this offense.
I don't think you need to be Superman. I think
you need to be Michael Pittman Junior. I'm gonna get
it to you ten fifteen yards across the middle. Ad Mitchell,
who have we been You know, the Colts fans and
myself have been waiting on kid out of Missouri City.
Speaker 4 (17:48):
I know that area.
Speaker 3 (17:49):
Well play that.
Speaker 2 (17:50):
Texas showed you some things, but let's see it happen.
It really when the real bullets starts flying. Kyler Warren
is going to be a key weapon, mark my words.
Sixty to seven the at least he's gonna catch if
he stays healthy. Along with Moley Kost that that position
has just improved tremendously. And if Daniel's smart, he's like, hey,
I know, if I need ten, I'm gonna throw it
(18:11):
to him at six. He's gonna turn it ten to
ten or fifteen. Josh downs with his ability inside if
he's not healthy early part of the season, maybe it's
gool Alec Pierce takes the top off of defenses, but
he's also worked on his ability inside the interior and
then okay, j T does what he does. I like
Tyler Goodson. I also like DJ Giddens. I like the
(18:32):
running back crew and what we saw in that last
preseason game is what I anticipate Daniel Jones being able
to do.
Speaker 4 (18:39):
I think Shane.
Speaker 2 (18:39):
Stikeen wants to do a lot of boot action, move
his quarterback away from trouble. Daniel's athletic enough to do that,
and then take some shots when you get opportunities. But
make the routine play. Get the ball to the receiver
as a long handoff, like Bill Walsh used to say,
hit him in the helmet or the chest so he
can take that ball and take off with it. Run
(19:00):
and so it's not a bad thing to call Daniel
Jones a game a game manager if that's what you
want to do with all these weapons that I just named.
Speaker 3 (19:08):
I think that's really.
Speaker 2 (19:09):
The key in staying out of arms away, protecting the football.
And if you're at sixty seven to seventy percent completion
and you keep those turnovers low, this team has a chance.
It's explosive enough. You've seen that even with Anthony who
was not he was only a forty eight percent completion
percentage guy, still able to eke out games and win games. Now,
how can you do it? Now? When you attack the offense,
(19:31):
attack teams and you put their defense on their heels
and make them have to defend you. That's what I
want to see this year.
Speaker 5 (19:37):
He is Charles Arbuckle as our good friend from southern California.
Jim McCann states, you can't spell UCLA without Charles Arbuckle,
who joins.
Speaker 1 (19:46):
Us on the Andy Moore on them if group potline.
Speaker 5 (19:50):
So give us your thumbnail sketch of thoughts on whether
or not you believe this team with Jones can compete.
Speaker 1 (19:59):
Now.
Speaker 5 (19:59):
This is considering their schedule, especially Charles at the beginning,
but also consider the dynamics of the AFC South with
Daniel Jones and this team.
Speaker 1 (20:09):
Can they compete with both?
Speaker 3 (20:11):
Here? I really think JMV.
Speaker 2 (20:14):
It's about what the people around Daniel are going to
do to help him compete. I don't I don't think
if you're saying like he's gonna win games for you
and do that now, I'm not gonna I'm not gonna
go that far. But what I am going to say
is that all the people around them, especially on the
defensive side, because if this defense and I've talked about it,
it's only Dungeon used to talk about forty five to.
Speaker 3 (20:34):
Forty takeaways every year.
Speaker 2 (20:36):
If they did that the offense protects the football. If
this team attacks the way I think it will on offense,
there's a really good chance that you can get a
good start, you can get moving in the right direction,
especially against a Dolphins team that I'm I'm not really
trusting right now. I think that's where you you have
had so many struggles that's finishing fast and coaches will say,
(20:59):
you know, let's go one and oh this season, let's
go one and oh this week. If they can do
that that first week of the season, that really puts
you in a position because you have two home games.
Then you play Denver, Then you're on the road against Tennessee,
which I think is a team that I don't know
how good they're gonna be with a rookie quarterback and
Cam Moore. And then after that you go out to
Los Angeles, which is gonna be They're gonna be a tough,
(21:21):
tough out. Then you have the Las Vegas Raiders. I
think you need to really look at this team in
quarters and see how they perform over each quarter of
the season. But if you can start out that first
part of your season at least five hundred, but you
really want to be three and one that sets you
up for a nice run. And that's kind of what
I think this Polt's team is looking to do. Really
(21:43):
get off to a fast start and not be in
the hole because it's so hard to get to the
playoffs and it's so hard to compete because you're trying
to get that at the end of the season get hot.
But if you do it early and you start off
really strong, that gives you a really good chance to say, Okay,
now we can kind of control our own destiny and
we can go in the right direction.
Speaker 5 (22:03):
All right, Charles, I do want to get a smidge
if you don't mind of college football conversation from you
right here. Let's go ahead and start with old dominion
and number twenty IU coming up at two thirty. So
you brought him up before Fernando Mendoza, who.
Speaker 1 (22:21):
Ran from his life a year ago at cal but.
Speaker 5 (22:24):
Also in moments, in moments in which he was saved,
he found a life preserver.
Speaker 1 (22:30):
He looks pretty good. I don't know if you've noticed.
Speaker 5 (22:32):
There are some people out there believe him to be
the best quarterback in college football.
Speaker 1 (22:37):
I mean, we'll see how all this goes. But what
do you like about this, who's your team to sustain
from what we witnessed in year number one of Kurt
SIGNETI a year ago.
Speaker 2 (22:46):
I'll always say, if you have a good quarterback, you
give yourself a chance. And that's Fernando Mendoza. He might
not be the best quarterback in college football, but I
do trust that he can really make some plays. And
to your point, he was on a team where he
was running for life. They had a great running back
who's now at UCLA and some other weapons who don't
seem to be there either, but he found a way
(23:07):
to make plays, and I think that's what you want
to have. You want to have a quarterback who's tough
and who doesn't mind standing in the pocket and doing that.
I think with IU, at least, he has a team
that's going to be built up front where they like
to run the football, play action pass, you take some shots,
but be very physical both offensively and defensively, and I
think that's what you're going to have to have. Old
(23:28):
Dominion is one of those teams that you've seen over
the years that will upset a team then don't do
really well in their conference. So the first game out
of the box is always the hardest one because you've
had no preseason, You've had no opportunity to do those
control scrimmages like you have in the NFL. So it's
going to be interesting for IU with all of the
changes that they've had. But the one consistent I think
(23:50):
you have is now you have an upgrade almost in quarterback.
And will that allow you to get to Elijah Sarah
and Omark Cooper and Jonathan Brady.
Speaker 3 (23:59):
And those guys that are on the outside.
Speaker 2 (24:00):
I think it's going to really be predicated on how
they run the football and established a run with Kayleon
Black and Roman Henby. But I like this team from
a standpoint of the quarterback position. I think he's going
to surprise a lot of people. A lot of folks
didn't stay up until midnight watching Cow games like I would.
You got to see him a little bit more in
the ACC because they won't always on Lake. They won
(24:22):
a very good football team all the way around, but
their offense was good because of Fernando Mendoza.
Speaker 5 (24:28):
Charles's final thing before I run sixth rank Notre Dame
at number ten Miami. That's not until Sunday, but that
is one of the larger contests certainly of the weekend,
you've got some interest, I think all the way around.
I think the interest to me is two top level
teams playing one another where there's a lot to be
figured out in week number one.
Speaker 2 (24:49):
Yeah, I think it's the same as that Texas and
Ohio State game. Right, don't know what you're gonna get,
but you know it's going to be two really, really
good teams that can matchup against each other. I do
think this. I have really enjoyed watching Notre Dame over
the last few years because it's always one of those
things that we talk about Notre Dame and they you know,
(25:10):
the things that they get there. Everybody pays attention to them.
But they've had a good team and I think Marcus
Freeman has done a good job. I'm interested to see
how Carson Beck plays. I think this defense gets after
him early and often, and if he can withstand because
he's a tough guy, if he can withstand that, this
game will be really, really interesting. And you've got a
Miami team that has consistently talked about we're getting to
(25:32):
that next level.
Speaker 3 (25:33):
We're at the next level.
Speaker 2 (25:34):
We want to get back to where we were back
in the eighties and nineties. Here's your chance on the
national stage to show that against the Notre Dame team
that's pretty dog gone good and that you're going to
have to battle to win this one.
Speaker 1 (25:46):
He is Charles Arbuckle.
Speaker 5 (25:47):
We love having him on and we feel even closer
now because he's also a part of the Colts Radio
Network and Charles on the Andy Moore Automotive Group plotline. Unfortunately,
Charles has other duties he has to attend to right now.
We'll let him go, but we'll make this a weekly
thing if you don't mind, buddy, Yeah, that'd.
Speaker 4 (26:04):
Be great man, looking forward to it. Appreciate you, Charles.
Speaker 5 (26:06):
You got a Charles Arbuckle, the Andy Moore Automotive Group potline,
the former Colts tied end, the legendary sid celebrating eighty
years and we are helping them celebrate in this month
of August with the Tavern tour stop.
Speaker 1 (26:19):
Brent Halverson sits to my right.
Speaker 5 (26:21):
He rejoins our betting analyst on what is going to
be the first real weekend of college football and a
lot more with Britt coming up. The samples are fluing,
heaven Hill Distillery is here, and the great food We've
already witnessed the tenderloin here, which is incredible. If we
want to go that direction, we have a lot more
for you as well. Mike Chapel's going to join us,
(26:43):
Rob Lackman's on the show, and a whole lot more.
We're just looking for you. Sids and Noblesville, which we
now embark on what is going to be the third
annual Labor Day weekend bender on this Thursday at Noblesville
on the Square at SIDS with ninety three to five
and one oh seven five the.
Speaker 6 (26:58):
Fan, the ride with jmv.
Speaker 3 (27:04):
In the Beatleser here in the beat.
Speaker 6 (27:06):
Foolser ninety three to five and one oh seven five
the Fan.
Speaker 1 (27:12):
Hey, welcome back.
Speaker 5 (27:13):
We are at the legendary SIDS Fine Foods on the
Square in Noblesville. I would have to ask you the
real question is if you're not here right now? Why
are you not here right now? Are you on the way?
Are you hustling to get on the way but keeping
it between the lines under the speed limits? Because this
(27:35):
is an awesome spot, join us as we celebrate a
tavern tour. And we've got the heaven Hill Distillery which
is flowing with samples the incredible food here, and I
do have to give a shout out Ronda, who joins
us a little bit later on. So I pulled up
here really early and I said, hey, Ronda, I said,
I need to find some brisket because I'm going to
(27:56):
have my neighbor Jeff Watson of Paradise Day Watson smoke
that bad boy, so I can do pool party coming
up on Sunday when the Labor Day weekend bender continues
for me on Sunday. So they sent me to Banter Meats,
like a half mile or so away banter Meats and
shout out to banter Meets. I got like a twelve
(28:19):
pound brisket up there and just rocking in some dry
ice in the back of the car. Right now, Brent
Halvers that have ha an Ill Distillery banter Meats in Noblesville,
I'll be the brisk.
Speaker 1 (28:29):
Ford to Trent Banters meet Nuts.
Speaker 5 (28:31):
Well, I mean you could show up on Sunday if
I know, I know, you get a lot, you got
a lot going on.
Speaker 1 (28:36):
I really would love to my friends.
Speaker 5 (28:37):
So Nathan helm is with us as well. The Boys
and Girls Clubs of Noblesville. My daughters actually played there
before and that's not too far from banter Meets, is
it not?
Speaker 9 (28:45):
Just kind of right next door literally across the park,
across the parking lot, because I saw that there just
a little bit earlier today.
Speaker 1 (28:51):
How you doing, brother, doing well? How are you guys? Fantastic?
Speaker 5 (28:54):
What do you got on your mind today? The good
to have you on show today.
Speaker 9 (28:57):
I definitely want to thank Brent for supporting an we
had last week just across the street at the Nest Heaven.
Hell and Brent were generous supporters of our whiskey and
bourbon charitable tasting event that supports the Boys and Girls
Club here in Noblesville and all the events we do.
Speaker 7 (29:14):
That was outstanding too, I mean, and what a great
place in next Slodging and everybody over there.
Speaker 1 (29:19):
I mean, and it was a great turnout.
Speaker 7 (29:20):
There was a lot of great prizes to we had
a lot of good sampling going on.
Speaker 1 (29:23):
And you guys raise some good money right, yes, yes
we did.
Speaker 9 (29:26):
It was our second year hosting that event raised good
funds for us that helped support our affordable youth programs
after school and out of school programs for youth kindergarten
through high school.
Speaker 1 (29:38):
How long have you been involved with the Boys and
Girls Club.
Speaker 9 (29:41):
I have been here at the club in Noblesville since
twenty sixteen, so it's been a little bit. We've seen
a lot of growth. We've moved into a new facility
right down the street there. This past week, two weeks ago,
we opened up for our after school program and we're
serving three hundred and thirty kids a day.
Speaker 1 (29:56):
That's awesome, that's great. My daughter's played a ton up here.
Speaker 9 (30:00):
Yeah, absolute ton, great, great facilities, great us.
Speaker 5 (30:03):
I never shot it really well up here either, plenty
of times, but never really shot it well the altitude
last I think that's unfortunately.
Speaker 1 (30:10):
I think the issue wherever we go.
Speaker 5 (30:12):
So yeah, but she didn't shoot it particularly well up here,
but she got up and down the phoe.
Speaker 1 (30:16):
No double rams though, No, no, no double rams, no
chain nets or anything like that. It is all good,
you know.
Speaker 5 (30:22):
I grew up playing at a boys club too, the
Bedford Boys Club, most noted because Damon Bailey was a
year behind me at that Bedford Boys Club in Bedford, Indiana.
But I do understand the importance of even beyond the
athletics portion of it, how important it is.
Speaker 1 (30:39):
For people in any community, for example, like double phil right.
Speaker 9 (30:43):
We you know, our programs are very affordable, you know,
while remaining high impact. Kids can come come to the
club every single day after school for seventy five dollars
for the entire school year. That's not per week, per month,
that's for the entire school year for a membership, and
all those programs focusing on things like academic success, good
character and citizenship and healthy active lifestyles. So you know,
(31:06):
really meeting the kids where they're at is very important.
You know, serving three hundred and thirty kids per day
for the entire year. Last year we served just over
twenty one hundred, and you know, remaining affordable and making
sure we're having an impacting as many kids as possible
was very important to us.
Speaker 10 (31:22):
You know.
Speaker 7 (31:22):
It's wild and I grew up in Seymour, Indiana, so
not too far from where Johnny was going there. But
I also went to the boys club for many, many years.
Speaker 1 (31:29):
And you guys had wanted Seymour. I had wanted Seymour,
absolutely had. We had the Thornton Memorial Boys Club. Yes,
that's for the deal.
Speaker 7 (31:37):
You know what I remember most about though, there's a
couple of things that stand up. One I learned how
to make a suicide where you get a little bit
of every day, right, So that's what we did there.
And then we played a game there called Sacket. You
guys ever heard of Sacket? Played it in a gym
heih in when the boys club gym got a little
like almost like a paddle and it was this wild
game and it was almost like baseball meets lacrosse if
(31:59):
you something.
Speaker 1 (31:59):
Along those lines.
Speaker 7 (32:01):
But that's I mean boys club growing up. And then
we played it played every sport that was essential, but
it was essential. And what you're mentioning, man, what you're
doing for for I mean that probably seventy five bucks
for the school year. You cannot beat it. It's great
because kids have a place to go right after school
if their parents are working. There's all kinds of great
things to go with it. And the friendships they make
getting involved in sports if they don't have a good
figure to kind of show them that route. Much respect
(32:22):
for you and what you're doing, man, I really absolutely
love it.
Speaker 9 (32:24):
Yeah, much appreciated thanks to you. You know, events like last
week of the Nest you know, really support support that directly.
Seventy five dollars for the membership when those true cost
of services are approaching eleven hundred dollars per kid. That's wild,
and you know, keeping it affordable for working class families
is what it's all about.
Speaker 5 (32:39):
That's so my time at the boys club, my vivid memories,
bumper Pool, eight foot goals, and Fanta cream Soda in
that order. Bumper Pool was oh yeah, that was customarymper
Pool foosball.
Speaker 1 (32:55):
We had foosball. That's where I got my early low.
Speaker 9 (32:57):
We've still got a bumper pool table.
Speaker 1 (33:01):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (33:02):
The people do you have to be like a younger
age to dig bumper pool or can older generational folks like.
Speaker 7 (33:09):
I'd love to play. I have not shot bumper Pool
in I mean thirty forty years. I mean it's been
a while.
Speaker 1 (33:13):
I don't know. I'm gonna have to go check it out.
We don't have to do a little.
Speaker 9 (33:15):
I've got a buddy with one handcoff.
Speaker 1 (33:17):
Really do people have that in their basement now? To
bumper pool are.
Speaker 9 (33:21):
Kind of antique, Yeah, but it's still fun.
Speaker 5 (33:24):
The kids love it so Fanta cream soda by the way, too,
There's probably the reason why I had kidney stones by
the time I was fourteen. But no, seriously, it is
important there's no doubt about that. And thanks for doing
what you do. Yeah, Nathan, thanks man.
Speaker 4 (33:37):
Thanks for having me.
Speaker 5 (33:39):
Boys and Girls Club of Noblesville. Nathan helm was with
us in a big time listening to the show Man.
We appreciate that. I am a tremendous fan of boys
and Girls clubs anywhere.
Speaker 7 (33:50):
Absolutely, Like we just talked about, I mean, yeah, getting
kids if they don't have, you know, they need a
spot to go after school, parents are working, They're gonna
get out there and meet some great friends, learn how
to some sports, maybe a little bupper pool bring bupperpool back, right,
and then just what it kind of just embodies.
Speaker 1 (34:05):
I mean, it's awesome.
Speaker 7 (34:06):
So you know, I was actually a I was a
big brother for about four years back in the day
when I was down in Seymour, and you know, again
just we take for granted what we have sometimes, right,
so being able to kind of give back to and
just really respect what they do.
Speaker 1 (34:21):
And it's awesome that Nathan was able to join us in.
Speaker 5 (34:23):
We had a basketball team my age that played out
of the Bedford Boys Club. And again this was like
a year I think or two maybe above David Bailey
and we traveled to Marion.
Speaker 1 (34:38):
We went to two different places.
Speaker 5 (34:39):
We played at Garfield Park once and that was right
before the Big Blizzard of seventy eight. But before that
we played at Marion at the Powell Club and Derek Keyes,
who I think everybody knows.
Speaker 1 (34:52):
Derek Keyes was a part of.
Speaker 5 (34:53):
Purple Rain with Marion back in the eighties where they
went back to back to back. He was the same
class Jay Edwards and Linda Jones. Derreck Keyes so worked
my ass over. I'm like nine years old.
Speaker 1 (35:07):
I started.
Speaker 5 (35:08):
I cried, Actually I cried because I was getting worked
by Derek Keyes, who went on if you guys remember,
he was a fantastic player, about six foot six or so,
went on to play at wake Forest. Had knee problems,
I think, and he's been on the show before, but
he was a part of that storied Marion program coached
up by Bill Green back in the nineteen eighties with
(35:30):
Purple Rain. But we went up and play the Mary
and Powell Club and went around to different places too.
That all was because of the Boys Club, and that
was the Bedford Boys Club back in the day, which
is pretty awesome.
Speaker 7 (35:41):
That is outstanding and they're great stories, right, and I'd
love to see that it's still continuing this day and
again what they're doing for boys and girls out there
both alike, are pretty pretty amazing.
Speaker 1 (35:52):
And look what happened. You know, look at tourney, you turn.
Speaker 5 (35:54):
Look at me, baller man, I would think at fifty five,
I know Linda Jones listens.
Speaker 1 (35:59):
I think I could Lindon Jones.
Speaker 5 (36:00):
Now, hey, I knew I could get one of the
pur singers.
Speaker 1 (36:05):
I know that for sure.
Speaker 7 (36:06):
I saw you hitting some three balls out at the
golf outy man, I was it was impressive.
Speaker 5 (36:11):
I think I get I think I could get Linden. Now,
Linda's probably laughing somewhere listening to this.
Speaker 1 (36:15):
Hey, tam V.
Speaker 5 (36:16):
I was a member of the Bedford Boys Club for years.
I loved it. The floors at Bedford Wood kind of
get all creaky, something out of Hoosiers.
Speaker 1 (36:26):
We had eight foot goals and then ten foot goals
in the Bedford Boys. Can you prefer those eight foot huh?
The eight foot goals?
Speaker 5 (36:32):
I think when I was in I think it was
a second grade when Derrick Keyes worked me.
Speaker 1 (36:37):
I swear to you to this day. He dunked on
an eight foot goal when we were in second grade.
Speaker 5 (36:43):
But I got guy excided. You know, it was one
of those things where I started grabbing my side. And
I always make the thing. I say, the biggest excuse
ever for somebody that wanted to get out of running
was I have shin splints. When we were growing up,
I would have said, hey, I have shins. I got
to go out because I was getting so worked back then.
Derek Keys, but now it's a badge of honor because
(37:05):
he has one hell of a player.
Speaker 1 (37:07):
All Right, Sid's in Noblesville.
Speaker 5 (37:09):
We got a lot more to get to, Brent, and
you've got some college football games we're going to talk
about a little bit later on too.
Speaker 1 (37:15):
Absolutely, some big games coming up.
Speaker 7 (37:17):
Way to start the I mean were granted started last week,
but now we get the full slate coming this Saturday
and NFL right around the corner. But yeah, there's a
couple of really big ones in college football. Is doing
it right, getting the things started off with a bang
this weekend.
Speaker 1 (37:29):
Marcus Kidwell says, you guys are killing me.
Speaker 5 (37:31):
I was born in Bedford, grew up in Brownstown and
cruised around Seymour for the ladies.
Speaker 1 (37:36):
Well they're ladies in Seymour.
Speaker 7 (37:38):
Well, I tell you what we used to do and
if you remember, my friend, it was called Scoop of
the Loop in the Jackson County Public Library parking lot.
And you know I started this my freshman year. I
mean we were on bikes up through there, right, but
it was the to do. People came from Brownstown, from Bedford,
from Columbus, all to get down and cruise downtown Seymour.
Speaker 5 (37:56):
We did Bloomington, Indiana, and you would cruise, which I
don't think you could do anymore because there's no parking garage.
But we would start on Walnut and then go around
Kirkwood which is closed off now for outside dining and bombs.
And then you would come back around Kirkwood, go back
(38:17):
up Walnut and then come down College and do that.
Speaker 1 (38:20):
Just Jeff remember that too. That was cruising.
Speaker 5 (38:24):
And then a lot of people, especially the townies, would
sit in the Bloomington parking garage which is no more
and right there.
Speaker 1 (38:30):
All this that's kind of what happened to Seymore too.
Speaker 7 (38:32):
But we park in the parking lot and people cruise
down to say hi, look at some females.
Speaker 1 (38:36):
Do your thing and enjoy life.
Speaker 5 (38:39):
Now now on Kirkwood you have outside dining and bums asleep.
Speaker 1 (38:43):
That's what you got, Kirk right there? Hey, quick break,
we'll come back.
Speaker 5 (38:47):
Since on the Square in Noblesville eighty years the celebration
for a tavern tour stop. Oh man, look at out
there too, quick break, We'll come back. I notice, I said,
my man. Jason's there, Todd is here, Jimmy is over there. Yeah,
Billy is over there too. We've got a lot of
our good friends on this tavern tour.
Speaker 1 (39:06):
S top. We'll come back with you.
Speaker 5 (39:08):
Brent Halverston of those college football games, the article in
the Washington Post regarding Jim Urse and what they described
as a Colt's cover up. We'll get back to that
a little bit later on Mike Chappell, Rob Blackman, Purdue Football,
and a lot more. Don't Go Anywhere, the stream of
the app HD Radio, The Triple A Membership Lounge via
YouTube Live ninety three to five and one oh seven five.
Speaker 1 (39:30):
The Fan.
Speaker 6 (39:34):
The Ride with JMV.
Speaker 11 (39:36):
Excuse me, Robo, any special message for all the kids
watching at home.
Speaker 6 (39:40):
I want to stay out of trouble. Ninety three to
five and one oh seven five, The Fan.
Speaker 1 (39:46):
You guys are leaving me, are you? Well? You can't
just eat or drink and run. You gotta stay for
a while. Oh dam.
Speaker 5 (39:53):
Good to see you, pal, sid Noblesville, the Square, Downtown JMV.
Speaker 1 (39:59):
Coach Fuller.
Speaker 5 (40:00):
Eventually, mister basketball lit my ass up at the Anderson
Boys Club. But I had two free throws to win
the game. I was one hell of a player in
the sixth and the twelfth grade. Nick from Park Tutor,
I'm one hell of a player right now. I just
had to wait till I'm fifty five to get over
on everybody else fifty five years of age. So are
(40:21):
you playing with like aged or is it I play
with much younger, much younger.
Speaker 1 (40:26):
You're hanging with them.
Speaker 5 (40:27):
And they get their ass work and they know it.
They know it, so you do have to run a hole.
You just went out of the three point line. Shoot
it hit it.
Speaker 1 (40:33):
Because I ended up hurting myself because I'm not old fart. Well, Yeah,
you had your the boot right was the boot that? Yeah?
I got out.
Speaker 5 (40:40):
I got it out in the car right now because
I wear it just in case I will. I wear
it just for support after I I don't know why.
It probably doesn't do anything for me. Doctor Robertson. If
you're out there, send me a message right now wearing
a boot after I played. Does it do anything for me?
Is my question. I'm not sure it does.
Speaker 7 (41:01):
It'll probably keep you from doing anything further if you've
done anything right, But yeah, that'd be a good question
to know.
Speaker 5 (41:07):
JAMV, did you really just eat cottage cheese as you
did a Daisy Brand? I did actually shut out the
Daisy brand. I did have some cottage cheese. It was
a perfect little setup too.
Speaker 1 (41:18):
It was right there.
Speaker 5 (41:18):
I mean it should have been on video, but we were
in break all right. Jimmy is here and Jimmy has
a hot take. Jimmy, what's your hot take?
Speaker 10 (41:25):
My hot take here? The first thanks for having me on.
Johnny got a bottle is love to be on the
gum and brak. My high take is you're not gonna
go over well a lot of no game fans, oh no,
especially my good friend Tevin Bowen. But you know, John,
I'm a big Miami hurricane spade. You are how you
sed to live down in South Florida and you did.
We actually had he didn't take into when you're in
(41:46):
the Orange Bowl, great stadium memories back then. But my
hot take is Miami thirty four, No game twenty four.
Speaker 1 (41:57):
Why is crystal ball coaching from the the booth? That's you,
Drake Rushy. Sure I saw that. Yeah, so but I'll
be sweeping the nation if they end up winning, probably,
I think.
Speaker 10 (42:09):
Behold, Jeremi, I loved on your seventy five yards change.
Speaker 1 (42:13):
So you're a believer in Carson Beck. Right, Yeah, So.
Speaker 10 (42:19):
A few called into the morning show and how you
joined to clarify why I have my Miami fandom. So hey,
thanks for having me on.
Speaker 1 (42:26):
You got it, buddy.
Speaker 7 (42:27):
I appreciate I'm against you on that score, though the
other way, I think sure Dame pulls it off by
fortune like you right now, to Dame, I do well.
Speaker 5 (42:33):
We'll officially get into your weekend of college football picks
coming up here in the four o'clock hour.
Speaker 1 (42:38):
Jimmy, thank you very much. But you like the Irish
and we do want, I really do.
Speaker 7 (42:42):
And you know what's crazy, and again, a lot of
these games are you know, they're on the road there
if they're a two and a half point favorite right now,
and you got the number six Notre Dame squad again,
a lot of new pieces that they pulled from the portal.
Speaker 1 (42:52):
I think they're gonna have it all together. I really do.
I think they going to Miami and then we'll talk
a little further.
Speaker 7 (42:56):
I'll give some score updates on these big games where
I think they're coming at.
Speaker 5 (43:00):
Brant from Fisher says Bedford mentioned here. I took karate
classes at the Bedford Boys Club.
Speaker 1 (43:05):
Look at that awesome Southern India coming out today. I
love that, JMV.
Speaker 5 (43:10):
Don't the older people playing hoops with the younger people
just stay on one end of the court and cherry pick.
Speaker 1 (43:16):
I do not.
Speaker 5 (43:18):
I played both ends. I sprint the floor because part
of my whole thing is I want to play and
I'm competitive, but I'm also trying to burn calories at
the same time.
Speaker 1 (43:28):
So I sprint. So that's that's kind of my game, right.
Speaker 5 (43:34):
It's impressive sprint and sprinting hard, is what I'm about, JMV.
What kind of season statistically does Danny Dimes need to
have to retain QB one next season? So, Daniel Jones
of the Colts, what type of season, brit do you
think he has to have to answer this question to
retain or to be around again longer than this one year?
Speaker 7 (43:57):
He needs to be four to one TD to interception
ratio or somewhere three three to one, somewhere in that interceptions,
you got to hold those back because that's you know.
Speaker 1 (44:06):
He can get kind of random back there.
Speaker 7 (44:08):
And and again it's gonna be interesting to see it's
under a new regime, right, Like how that's gonna all
come together. But if you got to get Pittman involved,
you got to get Tyler Ward out there. He's this
big young stud out there. There's some there's some things
out there for them. And then then JT JT's got
to stay healthy and you got to be able to
have that to run past option there.
Speaker 1 (44:24):
So here's what's weird to me. I think that if
he just wins games enough where they where they end up,
you know, getting into the postseason, because I think that's
what keeps everybody around inevitably if they get into the postseason.
If they don't, I think this is going to be
you know, kind of an etch a sketch and you
shake it or you pull up the copy and you
start new. If they get into the postseason, that changes
(44:46):
the dynamic. That's where I would start with.
Speaker 7 (44:48):
Him winning cures all right, So if you go out
there and win some games. You're absolutely right, But in
saying so, you've got to limit those interceptions and turnovers
because that's what will flip that script almost instantantly.
Speaker 5 (44:58):
Jam V sprint's hard to get back on defense. I
spread hard to get back on defense because then I
stand back there and rest for a second before everybody
else gets back on my end. Understand that there's a
method of the madness. It's also spreading back because you
can rest a little bit longer if you're sprint back.
Where's to live by basketball fans? Rob Lynch is over there,
(45:20):
formerly of Channel thirteen, now of Next Star Channel thirteen.
Rob Ltz Brent joins us on the other side your
college football look for what is going to be the
official opening weekend. Britt and I had that conversation. It's
a tavern tour stop SIDS in Noblesville. We would love
to see at the starter of the JMV Weekend Bend
(45:41):
to the third annual at SIDS in Noblesville with Mike Chapel,
Rob Blackman and you at two, three, nine, ten seventy.
Speaker 1 (45:49):
Coming up next.
Speaker 6 (45:53):
The ride with JMV Hippy Kaye, Mister Falcon ninety three
to five and one oh seven five the Fan.
Speaker 5 (46:04):
This is Sid's on the Square at Noblesville and we
celebrate eighty years. As you get Rick Road the JMV
takeover on Saturday night. This is together forever, not even
never going to give you up. That's well done by
(46:24):
James right there. JMV. You only sprint hard to get
back on offense short. I'm a big caller of short
when it goes in. I've always been that way. I've
got to give a shout out Jason hoff sets who
works with The Bob and Tom Show, and I saw
Christy Lee.
Speaker 1 (46:42):
I think I told you this on Monday. I go
to the Black.
Speaker 5 (46:44):
Keys with my friend Doug on Sunday evening that it
ever was, and I saw Christy Lee and we were
talking about a lot of things, but that Jason hoff
Setts has been a longtime producer of The Bob and
Tom Show. And he brought me a CD called Ron
Sexton Parts Unknown. I can show that Triple A Membership
(47:05):
Lounge via YouTube live. Of course, I think most of
you know the late Ron Sexton was Donnie Baker, and
this has just incredible stuff on it right here, and
I still miss my friend Ron Sexton. We talked all
(47:27):
the time. We worked together back in our days on
Fall Creek Road with Mark Patrick. He was a part
of the national show Marquette on Fox. I was a
part of the local show in the afternoon.
Speaker 1 (47:42):
Like right now. But we work together for a.
Speaker 5 (47:43):
Number of years, talked absolutely every day, and then it
was great to watch him explode comediateally and really make
a footprint for himself. And it's still incredibly sad for
me today to think about Ron Sexton no longer being
with us. He brought so much incredible joy to me
(48:09):
and really so many but certainly to me because the
guy was just naturally funny. There was no working hard
at it, and what he did he took observations of
growing up and just living and made that a part
of what he did and put that into Donnie Baker
(48:34):
and I missed that a great deal. So thank you
Jason for that, and I certainly will listen to it.
It's called ron Sexton, Parts Unknown. It was good to
see Jason. I occasionally see Jason. I mentioned I saw
Christy Lee. I think Grayson was downtown. I know Dave
Dugan was as well. Saw them prior to the Black
Key Show.
Speaker 1 (48:56):
We're talking about legendary voices in this market that certainly
some as Ron no longer with us, are incredibly missed.
But thank you Jason for stopping by SIDS and Noblesville
on a tavern tour stop for the month of August.
Brent Halverson, JMV. We talked to Charles Arbuckle a little
(49:18):
bit earlier, to Nathan Helm of the Boys and Girls
Clubs here if Noblesville stopped by two. We got Ronda
from SIDDS, who will pull up and join us a
little bit later on Mike Chapel, and we'll also talk
to Rob Blachmer of the Boilermaker Radio Network as Brent
Halverson rejoins us right now. What's on your mind over there, buddy? Hey,
you know what big big weekends. What's on my mind? John?
(49:40):
It's all kind of starting right now. That's starting right
now SIDS.
Speaker 7 (49:43):
The eightieth year in business for SIDS here in Noblesville,
and awesome.
Speaker 1 (49:48):
To be a part of it.
Speaker 7 (49:49):

Waters Campground starting tomorrow, we'll be live from three o'clock

Speaker 7 (50:08):

gonna have her on air tomorrow, out there and get

Speaker 1 (50:18):

I'll be like mostly in the bag.
Speaker 7 (50:21):

go too, so she'll be out there. We'll have some
great samples out there while we're doing the show from
three to six. But then we've also got Taylor's Bar

Speaker 7 (50:35):
Shout out to Kyle, great great guy. Looking forward to
seeing them out there tomorrow.
Speaker 1 (50:38):
Uh.
Speaker 7 (50:39):
They'll be out there, like I say, uh, with some
great great tailor's food bringing it out from well three
to six will be on air. Then we've got we've
got some live music with Sammy and Cully tomorrow night.
Sammy Culling Sammy Farr is one of the most amazing
vocalists I've ever heard, like she is, Susan Tedesky wise
(50:59):
and Oka has that sound I mean, and Jason Coley too.
Speaker 1 (51:02):
I mean, they put on.
Speaker 7 (51:02):
Their wonderful We're honored to have those two out there
playing Tomorrow night. They'll be playing from seven to ten.
The Bougie brown Box food truck will be out there
five to ten. And then Saturday, we've got a little
water float competition, So if you've got a big float
or you can bring something, we're gonna away prizes for
the best float, the best name. We've got a shuffleboard
tournament going on tomorrow afternoon. We've got college football, John
(51:22):
that we're here in a second college football starting at noon.
We've got some big games to start to slate off.
Then we're gonna have some live music out there tomorrow
after excuse me, Saturday afternoon one to four band called
Wait Day. So you can float in the water with
your with your big bold float that you got.
Speaker 1 (51:38):
I believe, let's see will be floating in the water.
He will be among them.
Speaker 7 (51:41):
He might have his j MV Suck sign out there.
We'll see if we can't get that going. And then
like I say, the the All Requests Saturday Night Live
third edition out there, you'll be taking the taking the
stage at six to twelve and doing some live requests.
Speaker 1 (51:55):
So everybody it's out there, it's gonna have some fun.
Speaker 7 (51:57):
We're gonna have some good tunes played, and we've got
beautiful well they're in front of us.
Speaker 5 (52:00):
Colt's conversation Jim Mersey Washington Post article from earlier today.
We'll get back into a lot more with you in.
Speaker 1 (52:08):
Just a second.
Speaker 5 (52:09):
I did want to ask you as far as this
weekend is concerned for Mystic Waters Campground, any availability cabin wise.
Speaker 7 (52:18):
As of right down you know, as of last night,
I think there was one cabin left, Okay, one cabin left.
Now there are a few, because there's there's several that
are booked for two nights, right so it might be
Friday Saturday Sunday's open, or maybe it's Saturday Sunday.
Speaker 1 (52:31):
Maybe a Friday night's open.
Speaker 7 (52:32):
So call up Mistic Waters Campground, ask for Lisa, any
of the girls up there.
Speaker 1 (52:36):
We'll take care of you.
Speaker 7 (52:37):
Get y'all scored away and come on out and join
us for a beautiful weekend with you my friends.
Speaker 5 (52:44):
That'd be great. It'll be great. Can we go tomorrow too,
There's no doubt about that. And then of course on
Saturday it will be great. And you know, as I mentioned,
Fordes Garage is going to bring some food out there
coming up around eleven thirty or noon on Saturday. And
then a shout out to Kyle and Taylor's table that
is over in angles will be providing the food coming
(53:05):
up tomorrow afternoon.
Speaker 1 (53:06):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (53:06):
Hey, one other thing I want to toss on to
that too. So my daughter Sierra, she started a.
Speaker 1 (53:13):
Right go ahead and she started a small drive a
couple of years ago.
Speaker 7 (53:16):
It's called sole Shine sol e Shine, so sole Shine,
and she didn't collect and we collect shoes, and she
wanted to do something to help increase invatory as there's
a constant need, uh you know, changing footprints. And that's
the organization that she does it for. So anybody coming out,
if you've got a pair of gently used or new
or have shoes for you, I just beat up. But
(53:37):
some nice shoes, decent shoes, bring them on out. CEO's
going to take all these, collect them and she will
be doing and passing those along to changing footprints.
Speaker 1 (53:46):
So I mean I'm proud of her.
Speaker 7 (53:47):
She started this on her own, John, and and you know,
just trying to help people out. And so you know,
I've got a bunch of pair It helps me clean
the closet out a lot of good stuff. We're gonna
help some unfortunate people that need some shoes. So if
you've got a pair of bring them on out. We
would love to see him.
Speaker 1 (53:59):
And have at tomorrow.
Speaker 5 (54:02):
Really this weekend in general, mistic Waters Campground our third
annual Labor Day weekend bender tomorrow. This show is going
to be there with heaven Hill Distillery, mistic Waters Campground
off of Ice sixty nine in Pendleton, and then the
JMV takeover all requests Saturday night from six until midnight
out there. But we should mention Brent, this is officially
week number one of the college football season. I guess
(54:24):
you had Week zero last week. That's okay. Week one
starts with doing number twenty five boys E State in
South Florida coming up from Tampa later on tonight, and
then you have a lot of other games, a lot
of the teams officially underway locally. You got some good
stuff too, don't get me wrong. Indiana State and McKendree.
That's over in Tara Hot later on this evening. Good
(54:47):
to see you, Pauli and then you Indy and Marion.
What a great matchup and a great way to start
college football out here in Indy coming up at six
thirty tonight that is off of Cold Spring on the
West Side at Marion. So we'll start right there on
some of the games we're going to be watching with.
Speaker 1 (55:04):
You this weekend. Well, hey, you know one game tonight
that I actually like.
Speaker 7 (55:07):
So again, hey, anytime we're starting the football season off,
be at college, be at NFL tread Lightley, We're gonna
see what really comes out. There's a lot of changes
to go on, especially with nil and transfer portal and
everything else these days in college football. There is one
particular I do like a lot tonight, and that is
Nebraska at Cincinnati Nebraska lay in six and a half.
I love Nebraska to night. I think Nebraska goes there
(55:30):
and gets that one done. A couple of big games tomorrow,
we'll talk a couple of local ones here. We've got
the ball State Cardinals going up against Purdue Perdue lay
in seventeen and a half. Again, that's going to be
a tough game to kind of gauge, you know, tread lightly,
but I kind of want to take my cardinals here.
I think that's going to be within that seventeen and
a half and then the big games. Right twelve o'clock
Texas at Ohio State is going to be a ball
(55:52):
game right there. So hey, I look at look at
this way. I love the under in this game. I
think they start slower, they get a field, we'll get
see what Manning's got to bring. But I think Texas
goes in there and gets this one done in a
really close game. They're a one and a half point
dog to Ohio State. I think the Longhorns pull that out.
Another big game we got ls Well, I.
Speaker 5 (56:11):
Want to stop right there with you. What is the
angle for you with Texas? Is it arch Manning? Is
it knowing the offense more than Ohio State kind of
rebooting here on the fly early on.
Speaker 7 (56:21):
I think it's a lot of that rebooting you speak of,
because again, it takes some time to get that sink
put together right, like you got to get in sync together.
I just think Texas is poised and it's gonna be
interesting to see how how arch man I mean everybody's
looking to already put him into the first round pick
next year, and the Colt's tanking and getting well, let's
let him play this year and see how he does.
I just think it's gonna be It's gonna be tough, though,
(56:43):
going in there and playing and winning a game is tough.
But you know, hey, plus one and a half, I'm
gonna go ahead and take that point and a half
and again tread light lea to start. But I do
think Texas goes in and gets the w. Also LSU
and Clemson probably my uh, I mean this is a
big one too. I mean it's a four and a
half point line with Clemson. I kind of like LSU here.
I think LSU gets the win or if not they cover,
(57:04):
we stay within three or four. That means they cover
that four and a half. And then the other big
one is going to be Notre Dame in Miami. Notre
Dame's two and a half point favorite. I think Notre
Dame has retooled. I like Notre Dame probably the best
out of all these to go in there and get
the win. Notre Dame, unlike Jimmy said, I'm going the
other way. Notre Dame thirty eight, Miami twenty three.
Speaker 5 (57:24):
Jimmy's a Urricas fan, a ls CARSA Beeca. Great deal
as they bring in another veteran quarterback and try to
establish what cam Ward did at quarterback for them.
Speaker 1 (57:32):
A year ago. Absolutely, and then we have the Hoosiers
plate two thirty.
Speaker 7 (57:36):
I think on Saturday you old them old du and
I think the Kurtz Signetti has done a hell of
a job to sell everybody on Hey, you know this
team can get some things done.
Speaker 1 (57:47):
Look what they did against South Carolina a year ago.
How close do you think they are?
Speaker 5 (57:52):
And then how impressed do you think we're going to
be with Fernando Bendozo, which a lot of the college
football world.
Speaker 1 (57:59):
Before the start of the season has been talking about
at quarterback for IU.
Speaker 7 (58:04):
Yeah, you know again, like you said, Signetti did what
a job last year, right, they brought brought ee you
to having a football program, which it's been a basketball
school for forever. But what he's done there and again
what he brings to the table, it creates the buzz.
You've got a full fan base there, now you've got
students ready to go.
Speaker 1 (58:22):
It's going to be loud and proud there.
Speaker 7 (58:23):
I think it's going to be a They're gonna get
out there and do some high flying. I think IU
gets out there and gets done. It's a big number,
twenty three and a half, but I think you can
do that. I think there's going to be a lot
of excitement building around this team and hopefully they can
do exactly what they did last year and get into
the playoffs again. That was that was pretty much a
unheard of right and oh.
Speaker 5 (58:43):
Yeah, it was a complete game changer for everybody. I
meant the excitement level. I mentioned this, Brent, in terms
of what we witnessed with the Pacers in the postseason
and that of IU and then really Boilermaker basketball, which
has been sustainable and consistent.
Speaker 1 (59:02):
I mean, that's that's what you've been leaning on around here.
Speaker 5 (59:04):
And you saw with how exciting people can get around
here if.
Speaker 1 (59:08):
Their team does well.
Speaker 5 (59:09):
You saw that with AYU football, and you certainly saw
that with the Pacers back in the spring in early summer.
You just kind of sit around and went on the
Colts to get things even kind of in gear.
Speaker 1 (59:19):
Yeah, that's you're right, You're it's going to start it
off right.
Speaker 7 (59:23):
This starts off the Indiana sports world for the football season,
and hopefully they can come out there and give us
a spark and show us what they're going to have
this year. And again, we're going to learn a lot
in the first couple of weeks, you know, And that's
where it all starts to come in. We start looking
at angles and how we're going to approach games and whatnot.
But Who's yours minus twenty three and a half two
thirty Saturday should be fun to watch.
Speaker 5 (59:43):
The Mendoza quarterback story, I think as cool as hell,
and I love the fact that people are talking them
up as maybe the best quarterback right now to start
in college football. I just, you know, a sudden that
becomes tough to live up to. But I will say this,
(01:00:04):
one of the reasons why I think I will like
him more than anything else is what Charles Arbocal and
I talked about, and I brought this up before he
was on the run the entire time at Cal. He
comes in to Bloomington clearly still the focus of defenses,
but also with an offensive line, and I trust Don Fisher.
Speaker 1 (01:00:22):
Don Fisher has told me a number of.
Speaker 5 (01:00:24):
Times that what IU has done with their offensive line
that he believes is playing or will play at its
highest level as we have seen an absolutely forever. So
there was a major focus on making sure you bring
this guy in who was on the run nearly every
single snap a year ago at Cow and have him
(01:00:46):
play behind an offensive line that can protect him, and
then have some veteran wide receivers in Surat in Cooper,
and then go to work in that form in fashion
you really understand and certainly like what Signetti does. I
like it with both the schedule and the personnel because
it makes sense in terms of him winning and why
(01:01:10):
if you're winning, would you all of a sudden want
to make a change in philosophy.
Speaker 1 (01:01:15):
And he stands by that and I get it, and
what he's done, you're absolutely right.
Speaker 7 (01:01:19):
I mean, he just has he's captured that respect right away,
right like he just came in and turned his program around,
and he has got people to buy into the program
and again keeping people around, adding some new people. It's
just been it's been pretty neat to see it happen,
and I'm excited to watch my EU football.
Speaker 3 (01:01:37):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (01:01:37):
I saw Scott Dolson with a message to IU students
a little bit earlier today as well. I should say
this there are some other Big Ten college football games
later off tonight, Ohio Rutgers at six, Buffalo Minnesota coming
up letter off tonight. Today Brent had alluded to Nebraska,
(01:01:59):
and since that is in Kansas City, Missouri at Arrowhead
coming up later off tonight at nine o'clock. And in Madison,
Miami of Ohio and Wisconsin. Luke Fickle is going to
need a bounce back in a major way with Whiskey
coming up this season as they get their season started.
(01:02:20):
The Friday Big Ten Games features Michigan State. That's an
East Land sing versus Western Michigan. And you have Western
Illinois and twelfth ranked Illinois on Peacock coming up at
seven thirty tomorrow night. And we also talked about a
little bit earlier the games coming up on Saturday, Ball
State Purdue that's in West Lafayette. You have Old Dominion
(01:02:42):
and Indiana at two thirty FS one is that down
in Bloomington. Don Fisher joins us to talk about that
coming up tomorrow. Nevada number two, Pence State. That's Saturday
afternoon at three thirty, Montana number seven, Oregon at four
o'clock on Big ten Network six o'clock it's all been
in Iowa coming up on FS one. These are Saturday
(01:03:04):
games New Mexico fourteenth rate, Michigan seven thirty NBC and
Peacock Saturday Night, Missouri State, USC, Utah, Ucla, Colorado State, Washington.
Speaker 1 (01:03:17):
All the Saturday evening.
Speaker 5 (01:03:20):
Games, and I probably left out of the equation a
noon start for Northwestern in Tulane on Saturday. In Florida,
Atlantic and Maryland at noon coming up on Saturday as well.
Speaker 1 (01:03:32):
All of those are.
Speaker 5 (01:03:33):
Big ten games basically wrapped around the biggest game going
into this weekend. I think everybody would understand Number one Texas,
Number three Ohio State brent Over in Columbus coming up
on Saturday afternoon, and we can watch that at Mystic
Waters because we will have the TV out there.
Speaker 7 (01:03:50):
Got TV inside, we got one rolling outside that'll be
out there. You're gonna have a lot of activity going on,
and we're gonna have those games being shown as well.
John not a better way to kick off the weekend.
Like I said, a couple of those big games. Hats
off to the college football gurus that put these together
for us, because we'll be able to see some pretty
explosive stuff to start the.
Speaker 5 (01:04:09):
Season off with there's a hell of a way to start, Jamie.
Speaker 1 (01:04:14):
I heard you had a little bit of brisket.
Speaker 5 (01:04:15):
I'm not actually smoking at the awesome Jeff Watson for
Paradise Dud Watson smoking the brisket. I've got pork shoulder,
a ham and sausage on dig ded VT right there,
the brisket in ribs, sprint at Paradise day Watson coming
up on Sunday. It is the full mill deal for me.
This weekend. We got everything. It's all drinking, no eating,
(01:04:39):
eat his cheese eating. You're not gonna eat that drinking.
Maybe a couple of bites you go to I have.
Here's something else that I've found. As much as I
love both cottage cheese and Greek yogurt, I have fallen
in love with cantelope.
Speaker 1 (01:04:55):
Oh I love candleop too. Anybody else out there in
love with Cantleope like me? For for some reason, I
used to be a big fan of pineapple. I still am,
But I think cantelope right now is taking the fruit lead.
Speaker 7 (01:05:07):
Do you do mix that with your cottage cheese or
I don't? Oh John put those together.
Speaker 5 (01:05:11):
I eat it out of a bowl on the bed,
watching magnum p i'd eleven o'clock.
Speaker 7 (01:05:15):
I'm gonna give you a couple behind the scenes, speaking
of the sheets view of what I like to do,
and that is, take some candle lope or take some
pineapple and your cottage cheese together outstanding.
Speaker 1 (01:05:25):
Another thing I will tell you, and it's super healthy.
Speaker 7 (01:05:27):
Beats in cottage cheese is a staple that my dad
used to eat and I always looked at him like,
you're eating beets.
Speaker 1 (01:05:33):
Man. I'm I'm hooked on it now. I mix those
together all the time. I put nothing in the cottage cheese.
It is plain and it goes. But I'm digging on
the cant of lope. I didn't see this a little
bit earlier too.
Speaker 5 (01:05:45):
Doris Burke from the ESPN on ABC NBA broadcast has
been a part of the number one team. She evidently,
according to Andrew Marshan, has been demoted and it is
is Tim Legler, the ESPN analyst and former NBA player
(01:06:06):
that will take her position alongside Mike Breen and Richard
Jefferson on the number one. First of all, let's face it,
this goes nowhere fast. When you had Breen and Mark
Jackson and jeff van Gundy.
Speaker 1 (01:06:24):
That was the best.
Speaker 5 (01:06:26):
Simply put, it was the all this other stuff is
just bull crap window dressing.
Speaker 1 (01:06:31):
That was the absolute best. Now, granted, there's really no
determining factor on what I'm going to watch and not
going to watch because of an announcer or an analyst,
but come on, the best would have been those three Breen,
Jackson and Van Gundy and ESPN felt the need to
(01:06:52):
go ahead and tear that apart and this is all
just rearranging deck chairs.
Speaker 5 (01:06:59):
I think on the Titanic of what people really care about,
who cares, who honestly cares?
Speaker 1 (01:07:06):
After that, that was that was great.
Speaker 5 (01:07:08):
I always love Van Gundy because Van Gundy could come
at it from a former coaching angle and really.
Speaker 1 (01:07:15):
Got on the officials all the time.
Speaker 5 (01:07:17):
And everybody else tries to protect the poor officials, what
about our officials? And Van Gundy got on the officials
all the time, which I would honestly dig. But yeah,
this is not the same, and really at this point
it does not matter, Brent.
Speaker 7 (01:07:30):
We'll see what the new regime is and be happy
to be happy to get some goods out there too.
Speaker 5 (01:07:36):
Right, I will say this, I thought Doris Burke absolutely
knew what she was talking about, so do just Leglar.
Speaker 1 (01:07:41):
I like Leglar too, but uh, it just pales in comparison.
Speaker 7 (01:07:45):
Just hear what they once at Doris at times is
a little bit too much.
Speaker 1 (01:07:49):
Just then, I mean it will.
Speaker 5 (01:07:51):
It will where you know where people out and you
will especially wear people out when something's not going right
with their team or their team is losing. That's when
you get I think, if you're winning, you really don't care,
it doesn't matter.
Speaker 1 (01:08:07):
But if your team is losing or not doing well
or not doing well in.
Speaker 5 (01:08:10):
That moment, Sultan with that's when you start really getting
on the announcer saying, well, this person sucks because this sucks. Well, really,
it's your team or your favorite player that's sucking right now.
It's not really the announcer probably shouldn't have that much
bearing on it. But in my case, those three of
the past were the absolute best, and ESPN felt the
need to break it up.
Speaker 1 (01:08:31):
That's what they did. I Britt and I coming up
on the other side. Jim Mersey the Washington Post story
from earlier today, I don't know in all how much new.
Speaker 5 (01:08:43):
Information you know, A lot of this had been bounced
around and rumored, but the Washington Post.
Speaker 1 (01:08:51):
Had enough to go ahead and go with it with
a story. And you know this to be true. If
the Washington Post publishes it, then they're they're on top
of it. Then no doubt.
Speaker 5 (01:09:03):
Now you're gonna say, well, wait a minute, why are
you not freaking out over this? It's because in these
situations when you have somebody that clearly can't get past it,
like Jim irsay, he couldn't overcome it, and it was tragic.
Speaker 1 (01:09:19):
It was sad the way that it ended. But you know,
most of it you can't consider truthful. And then you
can also understand if that information was not wanted to
be readily available by the Colts. And most of that
angle is the Colts and the cover up and all that,
but we'll go over that. Mike Chapel joins us coming
(01:09:41):
up at the top of the hour. Rob Blackman with
the Boiler starting a new football era with Barry Otam
as head coach.
Speaker 5 (01:09:49):

Speaker 5 (01:10:49):
SIDS in Noblesville. Matt Godbout is here with Triple A.
We're gonna have something James to give away coming up

Speaker 1 (01:10:58):
I hain't caught his cheese. That's awesome.
Speaker 5 (01:11:00):
Brent Holverson is here making out a bill, which is
that's a scroll right there?
Speaker 1 (01:11:05):
My brother? Did I do all that work? That's you did?
Actually that was just you're not closing out yet because
I still got more to drink.
Speaker 7 (01:11:11):
Now we've we've got one of the level bartenders is leaving,
so look at you right, should we get her taken
care of it?
Speaker 5 (01:11:17):
Can you tell people where you used to work back
in the day, Is that okay or do you not
want to?
Speaker 1 (01:11:22):
Sure?
Speaker 4 (01:11:22):
Yes?
Speaker 1 (01:11:24):
Where you used to be the manager.
Speaker 7 (01:11:25):
With the Fox and Hound. Yes, yeah, that was two
thousand and one to two thousand and five.
Speaker 5 (01:11:30):
Fox and Hound was a big time joint back it was, and.
Speaker 7 (01:11:34):
You know, I had the pleasure running the one on
eighty second Street in Castleton from one to four and
then there's.
Speaker 1 (01:11:40):
A lot of hen and she and creating in that place.
They're really walks in the Hound.
Speaker 7 (01:11:44):
There really was John and you know, I hate great
great spot back in the day.
Speaker 1 (01:11:48):
You know that we had a lot of fun.
Speaker 5 (01:11:49):
Hell I'm not you're going to transition to meeting Lisa there,
but you didn't do it?
Speaker 1 (01:11:52):
Well I didn't. But that's where I met Lisa. So
that's a great seguay right there. My friend I was
try it. There was a Fox Hound.
Speaker 7 (01:12:00):
Oxenhoun was a really special place, a lot of great people.
Like I said, it was just one of those places
that you know, everlready came to be at so Yeah,
we had a great run there. I mean, it was
a it was a wonderful organization. And you know, as
times change, you know, that was the thing. You know,
you know you got a lot of other great places
that have since so well, we happened to be at
one right now here at SIDS that sit around for
(01:12:21):
eighty years.
Speaker 5 (01:12:21):
Eighty years, and we're thinking about some of those places
that were great but aren't still around, like Fox and
Hound Champs was a hot spot for How about this
Crafty Cognis in Speedway?
Speaker 1 (01:12:34):
Never was there.
Speaker 5 (01:12:35):
Anybody remember Crafty Cognis And that's not Oh I look
at Bill's over there going yeah, I know, hey like Bill,
he and sheet over there all the time. Crafty cognis
right there. But I just think about it. In eighty
years of SIDS, you know what has come and gone
has been amazing. And to have that stick and stay
(01:12:55):
power like this to me is incredible.
Speaker 6 (01:12:58):
You know.
Speaker 1 (01:12:59):
SIDS is the same age as my mom. Wow, I
told him that today she goes, where are you going?
I'm going to Noblesville the SIDS, I said, the same
age as you.
Speaker 5 (01:13:11):
He's surprised he's not here. That scept they don't call
me at six am to talk about dogs, okay.
Speaker 7 (01:13:20):
Or to put out fires in the uh in the
back forty there?
Speaker 1 (01:13:23):
Exactly? All right? Mark is here? Mark is a listed
to the show. Mark.
Speaker 5 (01:13:28):
He used to work formerly for Clips Clips And is
it a new name now?
Speaker 12 (01:13:33):
Yeah, it's called Premium Audio Company.
Speaker 1 (01:13:36):
Hey, can we give Tommy Tommy Jacobs, Tommy high Socks
a little bit of crap because he's a long time
been a big wig Eclipse which whatever what is.
Speaker 12 (01:13:45):
It now called Premium Audio?
Speaker 1 (01:13:47):
All right?
Speaker 5 (01:13:48):
Well, he's supposed to come over here with to my
place with rubber Duck and the dude didn't.
Speaker 1 (01:13:55):
But what the hell is the dude doing? Do you
know where's Tommy?
Speaker 12 (01:13:58):
He's at the US Open?
Speaker 4 (01:14:00):
Is he really?
Speaker 1 (01:14:01):
Well? Can he get home from Queen's and get back
here and get my hot tub in order?
Speaker 4 (01:14:05):
Here?
Speaker 1 (01:14:06):
I'll get him on and Robby?
Speaker 5 (01:14:08):
Yes, man, Come on, dude, that's Tommy. Yes, is Tommy
Sutton of Coaches.
Speaker 1 (01:14:13):
But Tommy Jacob, Tommy high Socks thhs as you were
talking about right here? Anything on your mind? Mark today?
You want to make fun of Tommy?
Speaker 11 (01:14:21):
Uh?
Speaker 12 (01:14:22):
I just want to talk about the nobles Zille boom
coming out. Oh yes, excited, Yes, big uh he gave
me the hat their logo. It's pretty damn awesome right
though too. It's an awesome Let's stadium. It's about seats
thirty four hundred people. It's around one hundred million dollar investment.
Speaker 1 (01:14:37):
The popular will that be in and around here? You
think for people to.
Speaker 12 (01:14:40):
Go out to here full every night? Think so, yeah,
if you understand the NBA has the three hundred and
sixty best players in the world. Yeah, the G League
has the other three hundred and sixty best players in
the world. So I think people will want to come
out and see that.
Speaker 5 (01:14:54):
But then Johnson County has like one of them right
there every Sunday morning at eight am. No, I saw
Chad Buchanan was up there, what two weeks ago? I
think to make that particular amount, I'm at the pacer
general manager too, So it seems like something that is
not just going to work, but it's going to be
a pretty big dealer out here.
Speaker 12 (01:15:14):
Yes, very excited.
Speaker 1 (01:15:16):
The Noblesville Boom. When does it officially get out of
the way.
Speaker 12 (01:15:19):
Toy Nomark, I believe sometime coming up in the fall.
Speaker 1 (01:15:26):
The Noblesville Boom a year ago.
Speaker 5 (01:15:29):
I was going to try out for it, but I
got dinged up and couldn't do it. Now that it
got cut, I understand that, but I kind of wanted
to try out a little bit. It was like they
were just at an open tryout and I told I
called Chad, I go, I'm gonna come up there and
try out a little bit.
Speaker 1 (01:15:43):
He goes, yeah, come on up and try out. That'd
be great. And then I got dinged up.
Speaker 5 (01:15:46):
I think it was you and I were at that
cigar bar that was over near Ingles too. Do you
remember you and I together. There was a cigar bar
and I was supposed to go afterwards to that and
I got dinged up and couldn't do it.
Speaker 1 (01:15:57):
The final third cigar Beliefs. So oh, that's where it
was about this time, getting close to this time last year,
back in the early fall. Mark, great to see it again.
Speaker 12 (01:16:08):
Hey, tell Tommy, come on, we'll get him out there.
Speaker 1 (01:16:11):
Come on, Robert Duck to me, is he really at
the US Open right now?
Speaker 12 (01:16:14):
Yes, season New York.
Speaker 1 (01:16:16):
Good for him.
Speaker 12 (01:16:16):
Good to see you, Mark, God bless you.
Speaker 1 (01:16:18):
That's a Mark. Live here at Sid's.
Speaker 5 (01:16:20):
We are in Noblesville for the tavern tour stop with
Brent Halverson of heaven Hill Distillery or betting analysts.
Speaker 1 (01:16:26):
We went over college football a little bit earlier.
Speaker 5 (01:16:28):
And we're also going through a lot of the news
of the day, and certainly, probably the most prolific of
that news of the day was that story regarding Jim
Mersey from the Washington Post, And as I mentioned a
little bit earlier, certainly there's a lot of stuff in
(01:16:49):
there that had not been reported, had not been written,
but you kind of look back on it. As I
mentioned a little bit earlier, it was I thought it
was more of a focus on what the Colts didn't
tell you or didn't make you aware of than it
was anything else, because I think everybody around here was
(01:17:12):
pretty much aware the issue that he was going through
from the time that he was missing the games, that
who is missing because he never did.
Speaker 1 (01:17:22):
But we'll go over that.
Speaker 5 (01:17:22):
Mike Chapel's going to join us coming up in about
twenty minutes.
Speaker 1 (01:17:26):
And we'll go over that with Mike a little bit more.
Speaker 5 (01:17:29):
But the Washington Post had that earlier today and we
had this discussion earlier.
Speaker 1 (01:17:36):
We'll do that with Mike coming up here at the
top of the hour.
Speaker 5 (01:17:39):
Rob Blachman the Boilermaker Radio Network. We'll talk Bulletmaker football
with Rob. As they opened up with ball State, Rob
joins us coming up at the bottom of the five
o'clock our SIDS on a tavern tour stop for the
month of August.
Speaker 1 (01:17:52):
We're in Noblesville, Brent.
Speaker 7 (01:17:53):
Hey, we are, and we have a couple of real
special guests here Joiningsjo, Yes we do. We have Ronda
here who her title is HBIC. Yes, however we'll also
translate that out to the assistant GM. And we have
Dave who is a kitchen manager here. Welcome, Welcome, Welcome, guys,
Thank you for having you. Guys are awesome. I saw
them both less than a month ago. Now it's weird
(01:18:16):
that there's no Brian here. Where's a guy Brian?
Speaker 1 (01:18:19):
He's setting zone. Yeah he's out of town. Good for him.
Speaker 7 (01:18:24):
But he sends the eight players though, to make sure
we can. Let's talk a little bit about SIDS. Right, So,
eighty years which number one, Happy birthday and happy anniversary
and all the good stuff here.
Speaker 1 (01:18:33):
This place is awesome. I mean what you guys have done.
Speaker 7 (01:18:35):
And turned this and kept it going for eighty years,
and really, what's happened over the past what two that
Brian's had it right?
Speaker 1 (01:18:41):
Yeah, awesome. So tell us a little bit about SIDS
and what the hbi C that's going on. The hbi C.
Speaker 13 (01:18:48):
Well, I've been here for twenty two years.
Speaker 1 (01:18:51):
It's a big deal.
Speaker 13 (01:18:52):
And this is just a neighborhood friendly corner bar that
everybody comes here. Everybody has a SIS story Noblesville, there's
all of Hamilton County.
Speaker 1 (01:19:05):
Really, this is a staple in the community. Downtown.
Speaker 7 (01:19:08):
It's definitely known. And again, great service, great people, great drinks, Dave,
great food, man, I mean awesome food. Everybody talks about
loves it. Tell us a little bit about what telling me.
Speaker 1 (01:19:18):
You've been here, Dave, I've been here since March. Been
here since March March. Okay, yeah.
Speaker 14 (01:19:25):
Come out of a culinary background, so chef at the
Indiana Convention Center RCAA Dome for five years, Oh wow,
open up a couple of restaurants, and decided that I
wanted to take it easy.
Speaker 1 (01:19:36):
So I came to work at SIDS and have a
good time. How much fun is it?
Speaker 5 (01:19:39):
Right?
Speaker 1 (01:19:39):
You get out of a little fun? He loves me.
Speaker 7 (01:19:42):
Yeah, the hv I C right, Yeah, Yeah, I love that.
Speaker 1 (01:19:46):
That's awesome.
Speaker 5 (01:19:48):
So about eighty years of the celebration, how's the summer
bed for you guys?
Speaker 1 (01:19:52):
Awesome, really really good.
Speaker 13 (01:19:53):
And actually the eightieth birthday is November ninth, so we're
probably gonna that's like the day they signed it. So
the party was just to celebrate, you know, eighty years. Absolutely,
November ninth, nineteen forty five was the day they sign
it that they've got sids, So.
Speaker 1 (01:20:08):
We're probably going to have another party. You guys are biting, Well,
that's absolutely wanted to. You could come.
Speaker 7 (01:20:12):
You know, it's wild because I'm in a lot of
bars and restaurants and places throughout the state and to
find a place that's been open eighty years is it's
kind of unheard of. We were just talking about an
old location I used to work at was around for
about twenty years and that's a good run. But eighty years,
I mean, that's why I know what we do this
at Evan Williams Taverntre. It's the tried and true places,
the places that are here for a reason, and it's
(01:20:33):
really all about the people, right, the people, the service,
the vibe that's going on here, and this vibe is outstanding.
I mean, look at the crowd in here right now.
This is wonderful, right, I mean, nice little four o'clock
run here today. But no, again, we've got to have
all the great staples and you guys do it all
well with service and food.
Speaker 1 (01:20:48):
The food's awesome. I mean it really truly is. It's
not your typical bar food.
Speaker 7 (01:20:52):
And Jeff who was just here, had one of those
tenderloins that is bigger than the plate, you know. I mean,
you guys are known for a lot of stuff, great,
great food. So again, appreciate you guys, and thanks for
having us here, and we look forward to continuing to
do some more stuff. And so John maybe November birthday
party at SIDS, I think all on the docket down
or something that's what about some things coming up? I
(01:21:13):
know you guys have a lot of live music and
a lot of events almost nightly. You got anything you
want to share about what's coming up or going on?
Speaker 1 (01:21:19):
Tonight? We have Jay Baker and.
Speaker 13 (01:21:21):
Then we have our Queen of Hearts drawing, and we
have a jack bought up to thirty five hundred. We're
trying to get it even higher though, so solid that
board back there, I just find dollar tickets. Yeah, it's
a queen a hard action.
Speaker 1 (01:21:33):
You win something.
Speaker 5 (01:21:34):
Come on, hey, tell everybody about upstairs.
Speaker 13 (01:21:38):
Yep, absolutely so we uh, we remodeled upstairs and it's
a it's a little bit higher end, not like whiskey,
barbourbon and tequilas and nicer things up there. So it's
really comfy and cozy. And we rinted out too for
private parties and stuff like that, so it's really it's
really cool and you could see it at Sid's Fine
(01:22:00):
Food dot com.
Speaker 1 (01:22:01):
We look at that sids Finefood dot com dot com. Ronda,
thank you and Dave for the.
Speaker 3 (01:22:09):
Right.
Speaker 1 (01:22:10):

Brent holivers that of having all distillery sins in eighty
years in a celebration our tavern tourstime for the month
of August.
Speaker 1 (01:28:35):
We'll come back with a Brent and Mike Chapel.
Speaker 5 (01:28:38):
All right, the Washington Post article with Mike, we'll go
into that a little bit too. And we got Rob
Blackman Boilermaker football with Boilermaker Ball State matchup this weekend
for week number one coming up. We'll talk to Rob
about that and then some Matt Painter's birthday was yesterday
as well. How about Lou Panella's birthday today. Loup Nolla
(01:29:00):
the architect of what, Brent Halverson, can you name it?
Speaker 1 (01:29:03):
The New York Yankees?
Speaker 5 (01:29:04):
No, lu Panella the architect of Wide Wire nineteen ninety
Cincinnati Reds. The last time we had any enjoyment whatsoever
with the Reds baseball. Yeah, that's seriously, I mean everything
else is we have a flash in the pan nineteen
ninety Wide Wire, Lou Panella and the Cincinnati Reds. As
Sweet Lou celebrates the birthday today, We're on the square.
Speaker 1 (01:29:24):
Noblesville Sids join us.
Speaker 5 (01:29:26):
We'd love to have you have anil distillery with nainety
three five and one oh seven five the.
Speaker 6 (01:29:30):

Speaker 1 (01:29:36):
Let me have a Diablo sandwich of Doctor Beth.
Speaker 12 (01:29:39):
I'm making fast.
Speaker 1 (01:29:39):
I'm gonna go.
Speaker 6 (01:29:40):
Damn Murray ninety three five and one oh seven five
the Fan.
Speaker 5 (01:29:45):
I will get you a little insight on what just happened.
We had a massive power failure right here and our
system just went down. Shout out to Falin who was
acting quickly and got this thing back up.
Speaker 1 (01:30:00):
I don't know. I've done this for the better part
of twenty years. I don't know. If I've ever seen
anything like that in my life.
Speaker 5 (01:30:08):
Because we were doing the break and I'm sitting here
talking to somebody that just came in to join us,
and poof, the power goes out. And it wasn't because
Brent Holmerson, the Packer fan just found out that Michael
Parsons is going to the Packers.
Speaker 1 (01:30:22):
It was not because of that that had to break
the internet and turn everything off.
Speaker 5 (01:30:26):
You well, seriously, poof and we're just gone, wow, Poof,
that's big. Taylor was sitting there and Fayla thought we
were gonna fist bump and I go, no, I think
we're off the air right now, buddy, and we just all.
Speaker 1 (01:30:39):
The electronics poof disappeared. That is uh, that's pretty spectacular.
Speaker 7 (01:30:45):
That uh that that news calls that Michael Parsons to
the Packers.
Speaker 5 (01:30:52):
More on that with this big Packers fan in a
moment said the Nobles Belta for Tour stop again, thank
you for joining us. And Rob Blackman at the bottom
of the hour, But on the Andy Moore Automotive Group
Hotline from CBS four, I'm Fox fifty nine, Mike Chappel
joins us. I don't even know where to begin about
this this Washington Post thing today.
Speaker 1 (01:31:13):
I mean a lot of this was was rumor and stuff,
and Mike, you and I had talked about this personally
off the air before, and you know, some of this
stuff is now rehashed. I guess all I have to
say about it, Mike is and you can elaborate, is
that we're probably going to get a couple of more
stories that are similar to this before it all ends.
Speaker 4 (01:31:38):
Right, Well, I think in my mind, and.
Speaker 15 (01:31:44):
People can disagree. I think you know what it matters
now as will the doctor be open to any kind
of of legal problems.
Speaker 4 (01:31:54):
I don't know. Yeah, we.
Speaker 15 (01:31:59):
This is a touch touchy subject. There wasn't a lot
in there that I didn't know, and in fact it
hasn't been reported now. They had details things that that
we hadn't had, that maybe we had known but shouldn't confirm.
Speaker 4 (01:32:18):
And I'm here.
Speaker 15 (01:32:19):
I go, I'm the old guy sitting on my and
I am the old guy sitting in my front port
right now.
Speaker 4 (01:32:25):
But I just.
Speaker 15 (01:32:27):
I'm not crazy about delving into it. I'm just not
I knew most of that stuff. I couldn't confirm it.
Some of the stuff I wouldn't report. Some of it's
some of it is just it's personal stuff and Jim
shared a lot. Now some things people going to argue about.
I know that we knew about the overdoses, not maybe
(01:32:50):
not the one specifically where they were, but we knew
that there had been overdoses. So yeah, I'm I'm I'm
not really in to getting into it too much because
it's you know, Jim's passed away and he's not here
to respond, and the family is certainly not going to respond.
The team isn't going to respond, So I guess I'm
(01:33:13):
just going to lots of Washington posts run with it.
Speaker 3 (01:33:15):
I guess.
Speaker 1 (01:33:17):
Yeah, I mean I look at it.
Speaker 5 (01:33:20):
To me, it was a little bit more I thought
focused about and this is at least how I read it.
Maybe I just interpreted this differently. I read it more like, well,
this is what the cults covered up.
Speaker 1 (01:33:35):
Anything else?
Speaker 15 (01:33:37):
Yeah, I agree with that, And I think, again, being
as close to it as I was, there's no question
that they that they kind of.
Speaker 4 (01:33:49):
Hate to work covered up. But that's I.
Speaker 15 (01:33:51):
Mean, they they they protected Jim and his image as
much as possible. Uh he And we can argue whether
they should have. And I know part of where it's
Dicey is when he's running the franchise and he's having
(01:34:13):
his problems. Although I've got I'm telling you, in the
last two and a half three years, the daughters were
doing the heavy left thing. They simply were. So when
a lot of this stuff near the end when he's
you know, heav around the pain meds, Carly and Caitlin
and Casey were really really running for the most part
(01:34:36):
the team. So but yeah, no question, there's no questions.
And I go back to when the big story hit
about the December twenty three, the incident in his Carmel
home when paramedics were called and you know, they put
it down as a suspected drug overdos that they gave
(01:34:57):
Narki and I remember talking to me a month or a
few months later, and that's where he said it wasn't
an overdose and and said, well, I said, we've got
the report here. He said it wasn't an overdose and
I left it at that. I'm not going to get
an argument argument and start saying, well, I'll call call
Carbo now. So so that's yes, there was that going on.
(01:35:19):
There was uh that was that was the family and
the team protecting their owner. It was uh. And if
someone wants to make a big stink about that, they
certainly have all the ammunition they want. I choose not to.
And and I'm going to be honest upfront. Part of
(01:35:41):
it is that this is a friend I'm talking about,
and again he's passed away. And but no, every argument
you make can be made, will be made. That's just
a path that I'm really not interested in traveling well.
Speaker 5 (01:35:56):
And and you will probably speak to this because you
probably heard it I have gotten and because we do
this here locally, people are going to say, well, you
know you didn't talk about this, you didn't talk about that.
But what I've received, more than anything else, was and
I agree with you. I mean, it was you know,
(01:36:18):
the personal life of Jim Mersey that they were protecting.
But I get well, they were, you know, protecting you know,
what was going on from the NFL for an impact
from the nf an NFL more than anything else. And
I always just kind of revert back to, like what
you just said, he was more family protecting a family situation,
(01:36:40):
or you know, the Colts protecting a family situation. I
guess in this case more than I thought it was
anything else.
Speaker 15 (01:36:46):
Well in one thing, again, I don't know all the
fact that I don't know all this. I'm not a
legal guy, but I'm wondering what that came out of
this was illegal? You know, I don't know where the doctor.
You know, if a doctor prescribes him, then then I
don't know what's legal and what's illegal. Like from the
(01:37:08):
league's standpoint, I don't know. And it's again, I'm not
a I'm not a guy who understands all that stuff,
but the legalities of it, and.
Speaker 4 (01:37:21):
There's I can't.
Speaker 15 (01:37:22):
Imagine the NFL doing anything in hindsight now they've got
any more information.
Speaker 4 (01:37:27):
And it's just it was.
Speaker 15 (01:37:29):
A story that sort of, in my mind, brought everything
together and instead of locally where we may be piecemeal
this that and the other. And we all wrote quite
a bit about it back in December or January, you know,
twenty three and twenty four, we all did quite a
bit of that. Now we didn't have all the details
at all, but we you know, we.
Speaker 4 (01:37:51):
We knew there were there were there were more.
Speaker 15 (01:37:54):
Than one overdose incidents. We knew that we didn't know
specifically where I knew. I knew he didn't pass away
here I knew he did on the West Coast. I
knew that, and I was told to please not use that,
so I didn't when we first wrote the stories. So yeah,
I just I the thing is, right now, Jim is
(01:38:17):
such an easy target because because of all of his flaws,
and you know, if people want to complain about me,
that's fine, that's just I'm not going to join in
in in in reporting more now. If it gets to
be where the League enters into it, of course, but
(01:38:38):
right now I have no interest in it. And because
I because again I knew most of that stuff, and
some of it I couldn't confirm.
Speaker 4 (01:38:47):
But we were.
Speaker 15 (01:38:49):
Reported what we thought we needed to report, and that's
to me the end of it. Unless again, this doctor
gets his button hot water, which maybe he does, I
don't know.
Speaker 5 (01:38:59):
Hey, Mike, do you ever find yourself thinking about where
exactly that they confirmed a lot of this this information.
Speaker 1 (01:39:06):
To go with it?
Speaker 4 (01:39:07):
Yeah, I've got to. I do too, I know, I know, Yeah,
I know, And and.
Speaker 3 (01:39:17):
We'll leave it.
Speaker 15 (01:39:18):
I will.
Speaker 5 (01:39:19):
No, No, that's right, That's where I wanted to stay.
But I just think what I want to I guess
what I'm trying to say is that just kind of
comes naturally, doesn't it.
Speaker 15 (01:39:28):
Well, and that's the thing I'll tell you Pete Ward. Uh, gosh,
I'm not transitioning from what you just said. Pete Ward
and Pete Pete has been by Jim side.
Speaker 4 (01:39:41):
You know what I mean.
Speaker 1 (01:39:41):
Well, thanks a lot, Chap go.
Speaker 15 (01:39:44):
I needed a lot more of a pause between that. Yeah,
Pete Ward's value to this franchise and and his value
during the years, said Jim, He's immeasurable.
Speaker 1 (01:39:56):
It is like it wouldn't run that there's it would
not have run at all without him, no way.
Speaker 15 (01:40:04):
And listening at the Jimmy's celebration of the life when
Carly talked about I think they all maybe all the
docters did and somebody that they that they pointed out
and they singled that with Pete Ward and and the
things that he has done with Jim and helped run
(01:40:24):
this franchise. He knows how to he knows where everything
is that has to be done.
Speaker 4 (01:40:31):
Uh.
Speaker 15 (01:40:32):
And if Carly has any questions, then Carly, Carly knows
her stuff, she does, but Pete knows everything and how
who to call, what to do, and if there's any
questions on operational things, it's Pete and Jim valued him incredibly.
They were together forever, and when you talk about valued
(01:40:55):
right hand man, there's none better than Pete Ward.
Speaker 5 (01:41:00):
My Chapel of CBS four and Fox at They Dine.
He's on the anymore on a monocropaw line. So the
on the field, I guess Micah Parsons was legitimately available
as of this afternoon, right, who knew?
Speaker 15 (01:41:14):
I mean, I've always thought that what you do. You
get your quarterback and you're keeping. You get your left
tackle and you're keeping. You get your pass rusher.
Speaker 4 (01:41:23):
And you keep him.
Speaker 15 (01:41:26):
Now, I guess we could argue paying he was at
forty seven million a year. Every team's got a grunt level,
not on quarterbacks but on other positions. But Mike Goodness, yeah,
you're right, by Jerry giltiwell, that's just a negotiating's ploy.
Speaker 4 (01:41:41):
Oh man.
Speaker 15 (01:41:42):
It must have been very clear that they were not
going to sign Parsons for that kind of money.
Speaker 4 (01:41:50):
And can you imagine if they had.
Speaker 15 (01:41:51):
Have not traded him and held firm and made him
play under his current contract and enfranchising He's already shown
that he wasn't going to go for that at all.
So I didn't see what the compensation is. Is the two
first round picks or whatever. I didn't see that, But
he's going to be too crappy. First round picks Cream
(01:42:15):
Bason would be pretty good. So you're going to get
a pick twenty five twenty six for a guy that's
whatever Parsons is, twenty four to twenty five years old. Well,
you get those pass rushers. And again, everybody's got a
level that they're not going to cross on on cost
(01:42:35):
the holy smokes. We'll see how this plays down. But
I really thought that that like Trey Hendrickson and Terry mclauren,
that they would get this done. But we're talking different
money than Hendrickson and McLaren. Hey, good, good for Parsons.
I'm all for players getting everything they can.
Speaker 1 (01:42:56):
I think this that that, and I know we're gonna
talk about Daniel Jones and Anthony Richardson and the quarterback
and that's great, But if we're not talking about that,
if like laat too lot to can be just anything
consistent and pressure Mike, what they have done in the
secondary I can get down with right here, and I
(01:43:19):
think that changes the dynamic, not as much as the
quarterback position. Does, because nothing does anywhere in sports, right,
But you dial it up with.
Speaker 5 (01:43:29):
Consistent and I mentioned that about Michael Parsons. You bring him,
you legitimize yourself immediately. I think, regardless of your offensive situation,
leat too, lat has an opportunity, Mike, I think to
lay claim at least consistently to help them out in
a fashion we haven't seen since Robert mathis no question.
Speaker 15 (01:43:52):
And I thought he had a good first year, not great,
but a good one, very similar to Jared Verse, who
was Rookie of the Year. And again how many times
he said up was just almost there, almost had a sack. Well,
now you've got a secondary that if it stays healthy,
which has been a problem, and you give him that
(01:44:13):
another half a second toy can close. And we saw
what Odiego got in the off season and he's just
been good. And if they I like their defensive line,
I like the combination at edge pass rusher, he's got
a chance and he needs to be.
Speaker 4 (01:44:33):
He needs to be.
Speaker 15 (01:44:35):
The tip of the spear where you get twelve thirteen
sacks from him and the opportunities there. This will be
a better defense. It will And people say, yeah, look
how bad they were last year. No, I'm saying they
will be a better defense and then we can transition
to I have no idea.
Speaker 4 (01:44:52):
What this offense is going to be. I really don't.
Speaker 1 (01:44:56):
I think if the quarterback can throw it in the
general of the Senate. It's weird.
Speaker 5 (01:45:01):
We used to talk about the quarterbacks like positioning things
for the receivers to make plays. Now we're talking about
the receivers or the other skill position to position themselves
to make plays for the quarterback. I think it's doable,
especially within that division and with that schedule. We just
haven't seen it in so long. Nobody's going to count
(01:45:21):
on it or believe it's going to take place.
Speaker 15 (01:45:23):
Well, yeah, he's one of those show me, yeah, show
me you guys have you've gone with Dano Joas who's
had whatever the reason, He's had one good year statistically
and individually with the playoff with the Giants, and I
think this is the best. This might be the best
(01:45:44):
skill group the Colts have had. I was going back
and forth with Gregory Wien about this. I think this
is the best receiver group since twenty ten.
Speaker 4 (01:45:54):
It was.
Speaker 15 (01:45:54):
It was Reggie and Garson and Austin Coley and Blair
White and this group's.
Speaker 4 (01:46:01):
Better as good as good. But and you've got Jonathan Taylor,
who is as good as he's.
Speaker 15 (01:46:09):
A top three running back. Now we question is past
catching in protection? I understand that, but a top three
running back he got to tie it end who is
going to be good, very good, and the offensive line
will see. But no, I like this supporting cast. I
just don't know what to expect at of court. All
(01:46:30):
they need to get and it's not as simple as
all they need that we were talking they need to have.
Remember how Chris Balladio they brought up Alex Smith's name, uh,
with the you know, the the Niners and then the Chiefs.
Alex Smith was, that's kind of what you'd like to have,
maybe the bottom, you know, at least give me Alex Smith.
(01:46:50):
He was pretty good. But when he when he got
his act together, he's pretty good. I take Alex Smith
there right now, and I feel really really good about
my chances. I just hope that the quarterback plays at
a competent level, and we can argue whatever competent means,
(01:47:10):
because the other pieces around the quarterback I think are
in place.
Speaker 5 (01:47:17):
Mike was the twenty twenty three draft one of the
worst drafts we've ever witnessed in the history of.
Speaker 15 (01:47:23):
We've we've probably had other ones with Philip dar said
and yeah, yeah, so yeah, yeah, but that was Josh
Downs this year too, wasn't it. But but whenever, whenever
it was whenever the quarterback.
Speaker 1 (01:47:39):
Josh Downs, and there was one more in there, Daniel
Scott who has been injured. Yeah, I mean it was
there wasn't much impact other than that. That was it.
Speaker 15 (01:47:49):
But but when whenever the quarterback that doesn't pan out.
You know, if Anthony Riginson was the only player in
that draft to pan out, you had a great draft.
But that's not the case. Juju Brents not working out.
So yeah, it's it's it's right out there.
Speaker 4 (01:48:09):
I'd have to.
Speaker 15 (01:48:10):
I'd have to whenever the quarterback is the one that
doesn't work out. You know that Jeff Georgia in nineteen
ninety for all a lot of reasons. Whenever that's the
one that doesn't work out, it just we've taught it
just sets you back. And I keep harping on this.
Over the last four or five years, they've just Jonathan Taylor,
(01:48:32):
you know, all Pro in the offensive line, in the
receivers have played well in Quinton Nelson, DeForest Buckner, and
what have you got because by and large the quarterback
hasn't been up to what he needs to be, so
that you've got to get it right. And I don't
(01:48:54):
know if it's right now, I really do. I am
more curious. I am much more were curious that I
am confident. We're going to know you're going to come
out next week and you're going to be as right
as you've been on must wins. I mean, I'm telling you,
Miami at home, Denver at home, we will know everything
(01:49:17):
we need to know about this team after two weeks.
I really believe that.
Speaker 5 (01:49:22):
In closing with my chavel as we have to hit
a break, I will leave you at this I much
more consider the impact that Jim Mersey had on where
we have been and hopefully where we end up going,
and what we thought about this place before he and
this team got here, and I tend to really lean
(01:49:46):
on that more than anything else. I mean, regardless of
the reporting and the stories and.
Speaker 1 (01:49:50):
The stuff that's being talked about now, I tend to
really look at the impact he had on things.
Speaker 5 (01:49:59):
More so about that that I do. I mean we
know the personal demons, we know this person alive, and
we know how it sadly ended back in May. But
still the impact that he had on this city, this community,
this area is immeasurable.
Speaker 1 (01:50:16):
And uh, simply put, what not happened without him?
Speaker 15 (01:50:19):
So forward, going forward, his impact will be seen. And
I'm with you. I just I sort of want to say,
let the man rest and yeah and enjoy what he
left behind. That's the way I would leave it.
Speaker 5 (01:50:37):
So Mike Chapel of CBS four and Fox forty nine
on the Andy Moore Automotive Group Potline, I always appreciate
what you bring to the table every Thursday and next
week we'll be talking about stuff for real.

Speaker 5 (01:50:52):

Hey you do understand that, don't you? Must win week one?
Speaker 15 (01:50:58):

of that nature. I mean we trade around, traded two
first round draft picks and Kenny Clark unfortunately. But if
you get Micah Parsons twenty five, ye stud run with it.
Oh my god, that's outstanding. Today Today's special day.

its paint a text on his birthday. So yeah, I
toldly do.
Speaker 5 (01:53:18):
That I sent him a eastbounded down Stevie Janowski text
for his birthday.
Speaker 1 (01:53:25):
He always seems to really enjoy that.
Speaker 3 (01:53:28):
Yeah, yeah, I'm sure you like that man.
Speaker 5 (01:53:32):
He does, all right, So we embark upon a new era,
I guess another era Purdue football head coaching. With Barry
Odom coming up this weekend? What are we thinking about
that's and the matchup of ball State, Rob.
Speaker 8 (01:53:46):
Yeah, boy, great question, And I don't know that I
have a good answer for you, Especially when you have
eighty two new players and fifty four transfers. It's kind
of hard to Yeah, and I've been to a number
of practices over the last four and a half weeks,
but even I have a tough time kind of sifting through, well,
you know, who's who, and who's going.
Speaker 3 (01:54:06):
To play where, and who's going to be.
Speaker 8 (01:54:07):
The better players and who will who will be the
you know, the top guys as far as filling the
role for this team.
Speaker 3 (01:54:13):
So I don't know, John, there's probably.
Speaker 8 (01:54:16):
As much as much unknown about this team. And this
is my twenty second year on the Produce Football Radio network.
I've never I can't remember a time where there's been
this many and notes going into the season. And again,
it makes sense when you have that many new players
and that you know that many new coaches, including your
new head coach. So I don't know what to expect.
(01:54:37):
I do know from what I've seen in the practices,
this group does seem to be organized, They seem to
be well coached. They seem to to play hard and
then do all the intangibles that you would like to
have a team do a on a you know, a
semi regular fasis. But I yeah, I don't know, man,
I don't know. You ask me again on Monday, because
right now I'm not sure what to think.
Speaker 5 (01:54:58):
Is the I remember the level of excitement when Jeff
Brohm put the job in wessel Off heat. Is there
anything close to that with Barry Otum or is there
a little bit more of an unknown with him?
Speaker 1 (01:55:11):
No?
Speaker 8 (01:55:11):
Actually it's probably a good compensituate Brohm with a man
on the heels of coach Hazel.
Speaker 3 (01:55:17):
And we were really.
Speaker 8 (01:55:18):
Struggling obviously, I mean, we weren't going to bulls getting
Bowl games.
Speaker 3 (01:55:22):
We were lucky to win four games a year.
Speaker 8 (01:55:24):
So there was this renewe sent of enthusiasm because you
had Jeff Brom coming in who had.
Speaker 3 (01:55:28):
Had some success.
Speaker 8 (01:55:29):
Now granted it had been at Western Kentucky, but at
least he'd had some head coaching success, so you kind
of felt like, Okay, we might have a chance here.
And it's really very similar here for Barryotam because I mean, look,
FORDUE football could not.
Speaker 3 (01:55:41):
Have been any worse than were last year.
Speaker 8 (01:55:42):
Let's just cut right to the chase, but it was terrible.
Speaker 3 (01:55:46):
So it's a very similar situation.
Speaker 8 (01:55:48):
You have a new coach taken over for a program
that quite frankly, he's in the bottom, at the bottom
of the Big ten and I mean the bottom, the
very bottom, number eighteenth position here. But in a similar
vein he does have head coach experience. He has had
success at his other stops where he's been a head
coach Missouri and u n Ov So I think the
comparisons are pretty valid. And for coach Otem, similar to
(01:56:10):
coach Brom, I mean they're taking over situations that were
dumpster fires, so you really have nowhere to go but up.
And so if Barry Odom can and I think he
can do this, but if he can have any any
anywhere close to the level of success that Jeff Brom had,
I think for New fans are going to be quite
pleased with that.
Speaker 5 (01:56:29):
So Rob Blackman, the Boiler Baker Radio Networks are the
Andy Moore Automotive Grouppa line. Who forgot about Matt Painter's birthday,
He joins us on this Thursday, Thank you very much.
Speaker 1 (01:56:39):
I am curious about this yet.
Speaker 5 (01:56:41):
A quarterback that maybe you can further explain the story
was in West Lafayette, Jennid to Chapel Hill, then came
back to West Lofaette and that's the starter.
Speaker 1 (01:56:52):
That's how that goes.
Speaker 5 (01:56:53):
Okay, cool, Hey, there's nothing more descriptive of this era
of college athletics than that right there.
Speaker 8 (01:57:00):
Yeah, And look, I don't know how. I don't know
how it all went down.
Speaker 3 (01:57:04):
My gut tells me.
Speaker 8 (01:57:05):
My gut feeling is he's for Ryan Brown's playing in
North Carolina for springball, and some of his old Purdue teammates,
although there weren't very many of them left, but some
of them that.
Speaker 3 (01:57:16):
Was still around.
Speaker 8 (01:57:18):
Were They were with Purdue through springball, and when spring
ball was over, they called their former buddy Ryan Brown
and said, hey, man, we need a quarterback.
Speaker 3 (01:57:25):
You might want to come back now.
Speaker 8 (01:57:27):
Again, I'm not positive that that's how it went down,
but I sure have a gut feeling that's how it
went down.
Speaker 3 (01:57:33):
So Ryan Brown was like, sure, man.
Speaker 8 (01:57:35):
I'll come back, and why not. You know, look, he
had some he had limited success certainly last year for Purdue,
played in that game in Illinois and played really well
Fordue did not win, but they at least were competitive.
Speaker 3 (01:57:46):
In that game.
Speaker 8 (01:57:48):
So again, I'm certain that it got back to him somehow,
some way, that hey, Produe's in a real pickle here
for starting quarterback. This would be a great opportunity for you.
And he said, what the heck, I'll try for back
to produce. So and and to be fair to him,
he has been clearly the best quarterback through the through
the summer camp, through through the fall workouts here he
(01:58:10):
has earned that position. I don't I don't think though,
I don't. I don't think Purdue is going to just
play one quarterback Saturday, John. And my gut tells me
Malachai Singleton's going to get some snaps too, uh, And
I think PU will play two quarterbacks at least to
start the season and then kind of see how it
shakes out. But but Ryan Brown has certainly won the
job he wanted in camp. He was the best quarterback
(01:58:31):
all through camp and he deserved this opportunity. But yeah,
I'm sure when he transferred to North Carolina to play
for Bill Belichick last year, the last thing on his
mind is coming back to Purdue.
Speaker 3 (01:58:40):
But here he is.
Speaker 5 (01:58:42):
Hey, Rob, you got to get Devin Makabie some sort
of plaque or something, some kind of badge of honor,
don't you?
Speaker 1 (01:58:48):
Three head coaches and staying up there the entirety of
the time.
Speaker 5 (01:58:53):
Listen, you know this to be true because that's where
you went to college. That's Southern Indiana strong right there.
My brother know what that is big? That's Southern Indiana
loyalty in a nutshell.
Speaker 3 (01:59:05):
So much suspect for him.
Speaker 8 (01:59:06):
We had him on our podcast that we do at
Purdue and we were talking about I mean he literally
John has seen both ends. But he's been on a
team that played in the Big Ten championship game and
he's been on a team that.
Speaker 15 (01:59:18):
Won one game.
Speaker 8 (01:59:20):
I mean, he has literally been at both ends of
it and yet has decided to stick it out. And yeah,
I mean he has an outside chance to become produced
all time leading rusher. It would take a bit of
a herculean effort for him to do that, but he
certainly could get close this year to be in the.
Speaker 3 (01:59:36):
All time leading Russian school history.
Speaker 8 (01:59:38):
But yes, the factor he stuck it out and to
hear him talk about how one of the main reasons
he stuck it out is he wanted to get his
mechanical engineering degree from Purdue. I mean, that's that's awfully
refreshing to hear to hear a student athlete say that
these days especially.
Speaker 5 (01:59:53):
Well, he can also tune up your car if you
ask him too as well, which is also to me
a plus.
Speaker 16 (01:59:58):
So I had some I had some fun with him
on the podcast, and you appreciate this. I asked how
many times he's been to the Price State Speedway in Hobstott,
but he said only once.
Speaker 8 (02:00:09):
He only did that one time, which I thought was
a good of a miracle.
Speaker 3 (02:00:12):
I thought for sure he's going to say like twelve.
Speaker 8 (02:00:14):
Or fifteen times.
Speaker 5 (02:00:16):
Yeah, as you'd think somebody like that has been to
hobstat the Tri State Speedway, I would think that and
Salem and the Bloomington Speedway would kind of be places.
Peregan that he'd hit a great deal during his youth, right.
Speaker 3 (02:00:33):
Hey, man, when I was moving down here, that's what I.
Speaker 5 (02:00:36):
Was hanging out, no doubt, Hey, Rob Man, it's good
to hear you again.
Speaker 1 (02:00:40):
Everything else going okay?
Speaker 8 (02:00:42):
I think so got how both kids are off the college,
so I'm an empty master. So the wife and I
are loving that, well, at least time loving that.
Speaker 3 (02:00:49):
I don't know, but I am.
Speaker 1 (02:00:50):
Lord have mercy. What is going on in Zionsville the
empty nests? Yeah, well, hey, hang with it. We'll talk
to you over the course of the season, especially too
when we get back into basketball. But hang loose and hey, listen,
anything I would have to think would be better than
what it was a year ago. So you got that
(02:01:11):
going for you right now, right, So that's good.
Speaker 8 (02:01:13):
Yeah, you got literally nowhere to go but up after
that season, that disaster season last year.
Speaker 3 (02:01:19):
So you're absolutely right.
Speaker 1 (02:01:20):
Good to hear from your buddy. Join the broadcast, Okay, John,
thanks Man, Rob Blackman, the Molmaker Radio Network, Perdue and

And they have Jay Baker Trio playing tonight. A lot
of good music around here.
Speaker 1 (02:05:23):
To Baker Trio, it is one to be more popular
than they really are. You know, the absolutely are. They're
like the chosen few of the nineteen nineties. Very well plies,
very well put. They're almost like situation Gray of the
early nineties. Did you bring it? They're almost like push
down in turn of the early nineties. I love it, man.
Now they are great, they're and again they're they're coming here.
(02:05:44):
I think they start at eight. I think it's what

But did you have those bands back here playing? They
actually don't know, but they played for me, the headliners
at ball State. Did you ever have kind of think
of the other bands pushed down in char pushed down
a turn jealous.
Speaker 7 (02:06:04):
And to yeah, yeh Mark Kelly Ma Kelly did not
play forth Mike, But I mean the l Store was
one of my favorite local bands.
Speaker 3 (02:06:14):
They were just getting started.
Speaker 7 (02:06:15):
Chris Street for Shafer, happy belated, mister Chris Shaffer was
just yesterday.
Speaker 5 (02:06:18):
So I was always mad because he always got all
them the strange.
Speaker 4 (02:06:25):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (02:06:25):
I was always very jealous of Schaeffer because he got
all the strange. Realize, realize, Kelsey, she was amazing her voice.
She worked at the former Mowen Johnny's which is now
the Bulldog.
Speaker 1 (02:06:38):
For a long Yeah. Absolutely, Kelsey of realized. Remember stalked
her a little bit. Danny Flannigan in the rain chorus,
how about that?
Speaker 5 (02:06:44):
Yeah, Dandy Flanning, the Alligator brother.
Speaker 1 (02:06:48):
Alligator brothers, they were, they were all the brother.
Speaker 5 (02:06:51):
Those were great local bands about it. They still have
a local band. Stone Carnival was one from Bedford. I
think that's how Clayton Anderson Kenny got started, is it?
By the way, Clayton's Bar, Clayton's Country Bar and Steve
are faring that bad boy up here coming up.
Speaker 1 (02:07:06):
Said, believe that opens next week?
Speaker 2 (02:07:07):
Right?
Speaker 1 (02:07:08):
I believe, and I think I'm going to be in
there in the not so distant future. We should Clatland's
Country Bar. Dawn Place is pretty I'm excited to see
what they do.
Speaker 7 (02:07:15):
That's gonna be a great spot and then and again
bringing something that Indianapolis need, especially downtown country music. And
in all the conventions we get, you get a lot
of you get a lot of people in town.
Speaker 3 (02:07:25):
I want to hear it.
Speaker 7 (02:07:25):
So I think they're gonna do very well, and we'll
definitely have to get us a show in there again sooner.
Speaker 5 (02:07:29):
