Speaker 1 (00:10):
And where we go here?
Speaker 2 (00:13):
Anything you have a chance against us?
Speaker 3 (00:14):
Mister cowboy gay food? What'd you like to do?
Speaker 4 (00:18):
Oh?
Speaker 3 (00:19):
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (00:20):
Play chess screw.
Speaker 3 (00:22):
When there's play chips.
Speaker 5 (00:23):
They give off to Jonathan Taylor, Chuck cunning its way
Hark for.
Speaker 3 (00:26):
The goal one he's in there put down and why
Jonathan Taylor? Where finds Here's haliber into the front court,
mishandled it. Mcgin say shot here cohits it. John. I
have never been bedroom to be on the air with
(00:47):
you here in Indianapolis, a place where so many of
my dreams have come true.
Speaker 1 (00:51):
The ride with JMV on ninety three five and one
oh seven five, the fan.
Speaker 3 (00:56):
Hey, welcome in everybody.
Speaker 5 (00:57):
I know he had three hours of Greg just out
at the State Fair, and I'm going to follow that
up for three more hours after six hours of it
on Saturday night right here.
Speaker 3 (01:07):
I did fine. So I've mentioned this before.
Speaker 5 (01:09):
My daughter has become a big Beatles fan, a McCartney fan,
and she's gonna go see McCartney and de moyn Iowa
coming up at October during the nine hundred day fall
break that every school has in the state of Indiana. Now,
so she's a big time Beatles fan, big time McCartney fan.
And I found his shirt out here that basically is
(01:31):
the old poster from I believe the Lone Beatles' appearance.
David Lindquist is going to be out there somewhere going yeah, yeah, yeah,
I know the date. I want to say, September third,
nineteen sixty four was the date, Thank you very much,
John Griffin. But it was really cool. Hell, I didn't
see it when I was out here on Saturday then.
(01:52):
I was just kind of walking around a little bit.
I got here early, as Griff actually mentioned, Man, you're
out here early.
Speaker 3 (01:58):
I never really know. I never really know what is
going to be like trying to get in.
Speaker 5 (02:05):
Sometimes you come out here and I slid ride in here,
and I know it's a Tuesday afternoon in school's back,
or I should say Wednesday afternoon in school's back and
all of that, but you never really know what to expect.
And I slid ride in and I had a little
bit of time, and I walked around so a lot
of things.
Speaker 3 (02:21):
However, this is what I'm going to eat your eyes.
Speaker 5 (02:25):
And ears about, and especially if you guys are out here,
because I think you know outside of the cottage cheese
and the dairy bar over there, or the yogurts and
the dairy bar, which I don't know if it's Greek
yogurt or not.
Speaker 3 (02:38):
But the cottage cheese. I know there's some prairie farms
cottage cheese over there that sound for me. But outside
of that, I really don't know what I can eat here. However,
in the past, I know this to be true, and
that's why I'm relying upon your eyes and your ears,
those that are out here today, those that have been
(03:01):
out here, that can tell me where I can find.
Speaker 5 (03:05):
Some bison meat. There's got to be a bison stand
out here someplace. Is there a bison? Is it way
of the hell over there?
Speaker 3 (03:11):
Oh?
Speaker 5 (03:12):
Man, goodness, bison eggro I just I need a bison.
I need some bison paddies.
Speaker 3 (03:19):
Do they really cool? I need some bison patties.
Speaker 5 (03:23):
I know in the past that group down in southern Indiana,
down where I'm from, Red Fraser, and they have a
bison farm and they produce bison. And that's what I'm
gonna look at for some bison. Would might have taken
a little bit of bison home letter on tonight so Griff,
thank you. Ron Riff unfortunately pointed to the furthest place
(03:44):
as to I am strategically parked. That's the other thing
that is true. I never ever parked in the right
place out here. I mean on Saturday I parked at
Keystone at the crossing and had to walk from there,
and then today I am the first there's the way
from the Bison stand of all time right there.
Speaker 3 (04:03):
So I can't get this right. I just can't. But
the one thing right about it is that we're out
here for the Governor's Cup today. That is going on.
Speaker 5 (04:12):
A good friend, Tony Wrens, is going to join us
a little bit later on as well. This is something
as close to us. Remember this goes back to Friday.
We're at Harrizoozia Park Racing and Casino and Anderson. It
was Jim mccannon in Southern California, who is an avid
racing fan that pointed out the fact that Sibonis won
(04:33):
on significantly on Friday and the Dan Patch it was Sibonis.
So we'll talk about Sibonis was born and bred in
the state of Indiana. So we'll bring up to Tony Wrens.
Sibonis when he joins us. We have guests joining us.
(04:53):
I know that this is the Bowen Wednesday at the
four o'clock hour, Joel a Ericksson, so we can talk
old school Milwaukee Brewers. And Joe's a really good resource too,
because you have the Packers coming to town and if
you're talking about the Colts being somewhat of a mash
unit themselves in the preseason, right now, especially in the secondary,
the Packers are a unit two. Now, you're not going
(05:16):
to get a load. And you know what you have
with Jordan Love. I'm assuming they know what they have
in Jordan Love. You're not going to see him, but
there are a lot of dudes out there that they
are not going to see because they are kind of
muddling through training camp injury situations where you can make
the argument it's better to have it now and be
ready for the start of the season when it really matters.
(05:36):
But the Packers come to town for a joint practice
in which we will be in attendance for tomorrow afternoon.
That is the final practice at Grand Park in Westfield
tomorrow at three o'clock. By the way, too, shout out
to Matt Conti, who is absolutely the best around here
at what he does the best. He calls back in everything,
(05:57):
which is incredible. Shout out to Matt County and giving
us the time and the effort of calling back.
Speaker 3 (06:03):
Kenny Moore is going to join us on the show tomorrow.
Speaker 5 (06:05):
Kenny Moore had the cryptic X message that God, everybody
a little bit stirred up as I signed off the
show yesterday and then you had to come back and go, oh,
you know what that was about something else, So kind
of freaked out Colts fans a little bit. But Kenny
Moore is going to join us when we're over there
(06:27):
tomorrow at some point, I think after practice, and again
that's the joint practice. It should be packed up for
you tomorrow afternoon.
Speaker 3 (06:34):
We will be there from three and so six.
Speaker 5 (06:37):
And not that you need to be aware of this,
because this should be just a stapled statement anywhere in
and around, especially downtown or really anywhere in the state
of Indiana. So you have preseason game number two coming
up on Saturday ten am with the Colts pregame Hodel
I will host that. We'll be in touchdowntown coming up
(06:58):
for you on Saturday. But I saw the Colts send
out a release saying you better leave early. And these
are my words and not theirs, although I think it'd
be cool if they use my words and not theirs.
Because there is a blank ton of foo bar anywhere
you go in and around Lucas Oil Stadium because of construction.
(07:20):
It is a world of its own it. Listen, there
may be and you're gonna have Packer fans here. Packer fans,
you know, obviously who never get to go to games
are going to end up being here. But there may
be more orange barrels in and around Lucas Oil Stadium
(07:40):
this weekend than there will be Colts fans inside it.
So they're making you aware that your ass gotta leave
early because you are going to get frustrated. There is
nothing worse than to be frustrated by traffic. And you
see all these situations, they're really tragic situations of road rage,
(08:02):
and there is nothing worse than something as ridiculous as
traffic gets to you that way. But I'm assuming that
all of us have been, you know, maybe not an
incredibly over the top situation, hopefully, but certainly in a
situation where you go, well, look at all this food
bar with the traffic I'm pissed off about something, so
(08:24):
they are telling you to leave early and not to
be pissed, So don't be and to leave early and
join us in touch downtown where you guys can come
over and bring me some bud lights and all will
be right with the world. Coming up on Saturday. So
that was a note I wanted to make sure I
passed that along. But again, you guys are pretty savvy
(08:44):
and you understand, you know that there's a lot going
on construction wise, and really in whatever direction you're going,
we're just really happy if they tell you half a
block before they're actually working in that zone, if they go, hey,
by the way, right here, this roads closed. So okay,
go a different direction. But the culture letting you know that,
(09:06):
and I'll pass that along to you coming up for Saturday.
So you got Saturday in the midday for us and
then the preseason game number two, and listen, this is
going to be one if there really truly is a
quarterback battle, this is going to be one that you're
(09:28):
gonna care about. This is gonna be the one that
you're gonna watch and go all right, the defining terms
of this whole quarterback competition that we have talked about
over and over and over again.
Speaker 3 (09:40):
That's gonna be it.
Speaker 5 (09:41):
So that's where're gonna pay attention, Like the fruits of
our labor, putting you through this conversation for nine sticking
hours every day, when it drives us all nuts and hell,
it probably won't matter. It probably will matter because it
affects the most important position in sports. But it probably
won't matter because and what we think we're going to
get right now is more than.
Speaker 3 (10:02):
Likely what we're going to end up getting.
Speaker 5 (10:06):
But it's worthy of watching, it's worthy of paying attention,
and that's what we'll do coming up on Saturday.
Speaker 3 (10:13):
All right, quick note on this too. I thought about
this one. You got bison for me? All right?
Speaker 5 (10:20):
He didn't look like he's got bison, griff. I thought
somebody was walking up a bison, but he's empty handed.
So I thought about this when I brought up Sibonis,
who won the Dan patch back on Friday. Because Sibonis
when he was here, was a player that I absolutely love.
We all loved him, and I remember me, I remember me,
(10:42):
and I feel pretty comfortable in saying this. I started,
you remember when I started with Sibonis. I started he
received the worst whistle in the NBA started that I'm
gonna give myself credit, and then we all played off
(11:05):
of it and they all got angry.
Speaker 3 (11:08):
We all shook our fist.
Speaker 5 (11:10):
We all have to like, we just found out about
the traffic concerns a second ago. We all understood that
it was problematic, but you know what, it became more
of an issue. You want to know why, because it
became an excuse. It became an excuse not to run
back on defense. It became an excuse to constantly complain
(11:32):
at the officials. I listen, there's nothing I love to
do more than make fun of NBA officials, you know that,
And these WNBA people toss them right in there.
Speaker 3 (11:43):
I would dig it. I love it.
Speaker 5 (11:46):
But there became circumstances to me and then to everybody else.
And that was really kind of on the verge of
understanding this early that it became detrimental because it became
an It was an excuse for why they weren't playing well,
why he didn't play well, and it was an excuse
(12:06):
for everything.
Speaker 3 (12:09):
And then there was just nothing but whining and crying,
staying on one end and complaining. It became an issue.
Speaker 5 (12:17):
As much as I love Sibonis, and I still do,
and he still whinds at a pretty large level. But
I was thinking about Sibonis winning the dan Patch and
then my take on Sibonis when he was here, and
I'm going to equate that as.
Speaker 3 (12:35):
Well to the Indiana fever he started talking.
Speaker 5 (12:40):
Listen, They've had to navigate a lot of rough stretches here, Yeah,
were they eighteen and fifteen right now? Losing last night
to one of the worst teams of the WNB at home,
which simply put, if that were the Pacers, we'd be
all over them, all over them, and rightly so forever.
The Colts, I mean, we'd be all over him before
the game. If it were the cold I mean, hell,
(13:01):
we treat the cults drastically different. But I'm sorry everybody
complaining about the officiating last night. And as much as
I would like to make fun of it, as much
as I would like to use that as a crutch
as an excuse, you know, point the finger at these folks,
(13:21):
I can't. Because the home team turned the stinking ball
over twelve times in the first half, eighteen times in
the game. I don't care who's blowing the whistle griff,
failing me, our friends from the Indiana State Fair. It
does not matter. You deserve to lose the game when
(13:45):
you give the ball away eighteen times. And as far
as the whole focus and Stephanie White made it a
point to mention that after the game, Stephanie White needs
to slow it and needs to stop it because, as
I mentioned for Sibonis when he was here, that became
an excuse. That became a reason to stay down on
(14:05):
the other end, to half pass it down on the
defensive end, to be the last one down the floor,
to not being involved in a play. And last night
you saw Dallas try to run it at him. That's problematic,
and it became problematic for the Pacers. It's problematic with
a Leah Boston. What did I tell you last week?
When she is engaged on both ends. There are a
(14:26):
few better than she is. She is spectacular, but she
lets way too.
Speaker 3 (14:30):
Much get in her dome.
Speaker 5 (14:32):
That was in her dome last night, and her coach
does not help her by giving her that convenient excuse
about the faulty whistle or the bad whistle. Uh uh,
you guys turn it over eighteen times, that's on you.
Check the box score.
Speaker 3 (14:46):
That's on you.
Speaker 5 (14:49):
That becomes a convenient excuse for everybody. Thus, don't let it,
or I will tell you another way. You can uti
everybody in the world that's the fever. Fans talking about it.
Let them talk about it. You don't have to.
Speaker 3 (15:08):
Let the others speak on your behalf. Let the others
make the noise. Listen.
Speaker 5 (15:14):
I don't know what the WNBA hears, if they hear anything.
Because I said this all along, My whole fears they're
going to completely screw this situation up, and it seems
like at times they're well on their way. I mean,
you got this golden goose laying these golden eggs, and
unfortunately the eggs don't seem so golden right now. You
look at the television viewership that as of over the
(15:36):
weekend is down like fifty seven percent.
Speaker 3 (15:38):
I don't want it to be either.
Speaker 5 (15:39):
I love basketball, and I love for there to be
a reason for you to be excited about basketball in
this state.
Speaker 3 (15:44):
Always have a daughter to play, she's fifteen.
Speaker 5 (15:48):
But there's a lot of things that you got to
learn here, and I know they've had to learn them
on the fly because they've dealt with a lot. I'll
give them credit being three games over five hundred considering
the circumstances. But you got to stop with the blameing
and on the officials. All right, let's just go ahead
and all say it together. WNBA official stink and they
do stink, and they're not very good. It doesn't look
(16:11):
like they've been trained very well. That's going to be
up to the WNBA not to screw this up in
the fashion which they already have You it's your focus
to make sure that your players not down on one
end arguing while the ball is up the floor and
the other team is making to play four on five
or one of your best players this thing is bouncing
(16:34):
around in her head and it's kind of a tag along.
You don't need anything else in there. There's always enough
going on. There's always enough going on the way that
it is. So that was my point last night that
I thought about while watching that game. Is all right,
the officiating is bad. I think everybody's made a note
of that. We understand it. Well, what can you do
(16:55):
about it? You've got to continue to play. You got
to try to play through it. I know that that
is the oldest cliche in the sports book. You got
to play through it. I know what's easier said than done,
but I don't know what else to tell you, because
I know the alternative is you end up getting a
not so great effort from a player in which the
effort needs to be even greater.
Speaker 3 (17:17):
Without Caitlin Clark, that is where we are now.
Speaker 5 (17:23):
That's where I found myself last night with this group, unfortunately,
and that's you know, that's just not And I like
a Leah Boston a great deal. I like Stephanie Waite
a great deal. But it's time to focus on what's
going on out there. And you know what, you don't
want that to become the SA bonus excuse that it
(17:44):
became around here and you saw him, if you remember,
he kind of just devolved from a guy that would
move on to the next play, who complained as much
as anybody and still does in the NBA.
Speaker 3 (17:57):
Man, he don't want that. You do not want it.
Let us do the complaining for you. We will.
Speaker 5 (18:07):
Because you can say, well, the coach can do it.
I mean that is the coach. But the coach makes
it even more convenient for the players.
Speaker 3 (18:14):
You know, they can rationalize how well, okay, the coach
is doing it, So it's okay for me to stand
down here and talk to this pipsqueak of a guy
that's probably been trained for five minutes doing what he's
doing right here. Now, don't move on about your day.
And you know what think about this?
Speaker 5 (18:31):
I mean, if you hang in here long enough against
teams that you should beat unlike you did last night,
you did this long enough, and who knows what may
happen once you get Caitlin Clark back and then you
refire that spark.
Speaker 3 (18:44):
Which what is everybody looking for? All right? We can
get that if you like it.
Speaker 5 (18:48):
Two three nine ten seventy Email the Dresses JMVI at
one oh seven five the fan dot Com.
Speaker 3 (18:53):
Three point thirty here bottom of the hour? Am I
doing this right now? John?
Speaker 5 (18:57):
Are we doing it right now? We'll get some people
on here because I'm just sitting here. YIPI pping to
myself right here, all right, I'm huffing some dust. Yip
you up in a little bit. I apologize. I don't
have stuff in front of me right here.
Speaker 6 (19:12):
I am Jessica Barnes.
Speaker 3 (19:13):
Jessica Barnes, are you from Princeton? I am?
Speaker 6 (19:15):
We talked once before we did racetrack. Yes, about the Holodome,
about the Holodame God.
Speaker 5 (19:21):
The summer of nineteen eighty four. Hey, I can tell
you the summer of nineteen eighty four.
Speaker 3 (19:29):
My best friend Jason Jackson's dad got angry when we
tossed wet towels at him from the second story of
the Holidomen Princeton. It was glorious, yep, and we beat
Newburgh but lost to Tera Hate and Babe Ruth.
Speaker 5 (19:43):
All right, who else do we got here? I'm sorry, Hey,
there's a really good, hope well hosted show right here.
Speaker 3 (19:47):
Kevin.
Speaker 6 (19:48):
This is Kevin Mack. He you were just talking about
officials and referees. Yes, so he's our presigning judge here today.
He is at the racetrack, so he's like the bad referee.
So I hope that you're the.
Speaker 3 (19:58):
Pro's ever stopping. All. Hey, what's happening?
Speaker 7 (20:02):
Because I know, but when I used to coach girls
and boys basketball, I did that.
Speaker 5 (20:05):
Well listen, I sound like I'm trying to act above
it all, and hey, well, I'm a chief complainer of officials.
But you can't tell when it becomes detrimental to everybody
and when it becomes an excuse and that's where the crossover.
Speaker 3 (20:18):
I think Kevin's dangerous, very dangerous. So just the thought
right there. How are we doing? Everybody? Thank you for
joining us. It is a beautiful day.
Speaker 8 (20:27):
It is.
Speaker 3 (20:28):
So we've got big goings on later off today five Oco.
Speaker 6 (20:31):
Yes, five o'clock Governor's Championship.
Speaker 3 (20:35):
You know what.
Speaker 5 (20:35):
Sibonis provided a backdrop for my analogy today. Yes, because
Sibonis was a player we all loved and Sibonis kind
of devolved into an official complainer that that was not becoming.
Speaker 3 (20:48):
Now this is different. Born and bred in the state
of Indian Yes, was the bonus correct.
Speaker 6 (20:52):
And the winner of the dam Patcham patch.
Speaker 3 (20:55):
That's bad.
Speaker 6 (20:56):
Second, we've had a Indiana horse.
Speaker 3 (20:59):
Well, tell us a little bit about that.
Speaker 6 (21:01):
So you know, I work for the Racing Commission and
we create incentives for people to breed racehorses and here
in Indiana. So we've created a program for them to
do so, and we've done a pretty good job of it.
Our breeders, our breeders and here in Indiana have done
great and investing and upgrading their stock in Indiana. And
(21:22):
we do all of that because horse racing is good
for Indiana. So it's a two billion dollar industry. We
know from our programs because we have to go and
check these horses and make sure that they're here in Indiana.
That we have horses in every count in Indiana. So
and when those horses are here and being raised, they're
eating hay and grain and green space, building fence. You know,
(21:45):
farm owners are building fences, they're paying taxes, they're buying
trucks and trailers to haul them. So it's great for
Indiana's economy.
Speaker 3 (21:52):
So what is Indiana rank right now? It's far For example,
what the Commonwealth of Kentucky, given that's been their backbone
for for arrows.
Speaker 6 (22:01):
Wow, Indiakay, if we're talking standard breads, which you're racing
here today, we're pretty good. We're pretty good. Neck and neck.
We're breeding pretty closely to the same number of mayors
a year. People are kind of going to Kentucky's program
a little bit because it's hot right now. You know,
it's kind of like sports and things get hot, people
follow that. But I think we're holding our own and
(22:25):
we've got a pretty pretty good program compared to their.
Speaker 3 (22:28):
So, Kevin, what is your gig today?
Speaker 9 (22:31):
I'm actually judging the races today. We watched to make
sure there's no interference. Horses have to stay on stride,
and if they don't, then they got to do certain
things such as they got to move to the outside
when there's clearance. They got to lose ground. They just
can't let them come keep running and keeping up. And
(22:51):
if they do that, then they actually can come back
and could even win the race.
Speaker 3 (22:55):
Now do you do You often have to preside with
a heavy hand.
Speaker 7 (23:01):
Not usually everything that's pretty good.
Speaker 9 (23:02):
I mean, like this morning's we everything all went off
just like clockwork. But once in a while you'll have
Actually Jamie's husband when we raced here last Wednesday, was
coming around that last turn and his bike broke right
in half. Oh no, literally and we couldn't seem because
of the trees. And then it's just as he come
(23:24):
out right, his bike just went like this, And I mean,
there was nothing for me to do as a judge
other than just to make sure Ricky was all right.
But you know, things do happen, unfortunately in this this
sport that you know, we have no control.
Speaker 5 (23:38):
It seemed like very judge quality right there, Kav. I
think I would agree with most of what you have
to preside over like, I think you're one of the
few people. Your decision making seems to be very sound. Well,
I think so it does. I this is the culmination
of the fair circuit, Is that correct it?
Speaker 7 (23:56):
I think we've been to what fourteen or fifteen different
different fares.
Speaker 3 (24:00):
Oh yeah, there's a picture of it right there. Did
you call it a bike race? Bike race bike? That's awesome.
Speaker 5 (24:05):
I've actually done this before too, with that little helmet
and the goggles and whatever. It's pretty awesome.
Speaker 3 (24:10):
Yeah it is.
Speaker 5 (24:11):
I've did that a couple of times, So I'm sorry
I interrupted you on the whole race collation.
Speaker 10 (24:15):
Here.
Speaker 9 (24:15):
We go to different cities throughout the in counties throughout
the whole ye summer, and they get points for racing
depending on where they're finished and how many they started
in and everything. And then the top eight are the
ones that's going to race tonight in the championships. And
it's kind of like the NCAA basketball except we narrowed
down the final eight instead of the final two.
Speaker 7 (24:37):
High final four. But those eight we'll compete tonight, and
the ones that were the next eight in line was
what we raced this morning.
Speaker 3 (24:46):
No so, and this is in comparison to to what
as far as statewide with.
Speaker 8 (24:53):
What you do.
Speaker 6 (24:55):
So I always kind of equate the County Fair program
to our If you're think talking about baseball, I know
you like Basewell the minor leagues, So our County Fair
program are races for two and three year olds. These
are horses that are not quite good enough like savonas
to go to the racetrack. So our County Fair program
(25:15):
gives those horses an opportunity to learn and grow and
develop and see if they're going to make it to
the big leagues.
Speaker 3 (25:23):
That's cool. So I'll tell you what. I kind of
short change you guys with you if you happen at
the beginning, Can you guys hang around for a little bit.
Let me let me take a break and we'll come
back with you guys.
Speaker 5 (25:31):
If that's okay, hey, quick break back at the Indiana
State Fair, you guys can join me. I was also
looking for some bison meat here today too. I haven't had,
but Griff tells me it's like way over here. I
always it never fails. I strategically parked the furthest away
from anything, and I don't know why. I mean always,
like I was here Saturday night, and I think I
parked on the north side of Indy and like walked
(25:51):
in here. It's like forever I go and I could
have parked like right over here, and I don't know why.
You guys cool to hang.
Speaker 6 (25:57):
Yep, Yeah, we're good.
Speaker 5 (25:58):
Hey, we'll come back in just a minute. Colts camp
for tomorrow. As I mentioned, Kenny Moore is going to
join us on the show tomorrow. The joint practice with
the Packers is up at Grand Park in Westfield today.
I am coming up on Saturday morning. That is the
Colt's pregame huddle. We'll get your set for preseason game
number two. We've got Kevin Bowen, we have Joel A. Ericsson,
and you and I at two three nine ten seventy.
(26:18):
I have officially signed up for the tech stream at
three one seven two three nine ten seventy, so you
can fire that up. I think I could even James,
Are you proud? I think I can even get this
bad boy on my phone?
Speaker 3 (26:31):
Right? Wow? Too?
Speaker 1 (26:32):
Look at you?
Speaker 3 (26:32):
You think I've even done that.
Speaker 5 (26:34):
It asked me to like do something with a code,
and I didn't know what the hell that meant, but
I did. I may have half asked, sign myself up,
but I'm close. I'm right down to ballpark at three
one seven two, three nine ten seventy for our tech
stream the Triple A Membership Lounge via YouTube live. I
still believe is there. And by the way, Triple A
(26:55):
has got great deals coming up tomorrow on getting yourself
in as a Triple A member.
Speaker 3 (26:59):
I'll explain that up as well. Not for the Indiana
State Fair, but we're.
Speaker 5 (27:03):
Back here at thirty eighth and Benford and Keystone or
so on ninety three to five and one oh seven
five the fan.
Speaker 1 (27:12):
The ride with JMV. Jim hows ninety three to five
and one oh seven five the fan.
Speaker 5 (27:23):
All right, let us celebrate. The song has zero to do.
But that's okay, James. If you want to go off
the Fast Times at Ridgemont High soundtrack, you can do that.
I don't know by Buffett would have been really good
as a re entry right here, but I'm not going
to dictate the terms on what you do, because James,
you're doing a good job back there. But he did
play a re entry. As we celebrate the day, it's
(27:45):
a big moment in all of our history. Forty three
years ago today at the College Mall Cinema in Bloomington, Indiana,
Fast Times at Ridgemont High opened.
Speaker 3 (27:58):
Up, and I saw it on the billboard, and I went,
I was what was I right? There was it? I
was twelve years old, All right, twelve years old.
Speaker 8 (28:09):
I go.
Speaker 5 (28:10):
We get there and we had a choice between that
and some filled called a film called Wacko and we
chose Wacko over Fast Times at Ridgemont High, which has
essentially since then become really the greatest movie of all time.
As w'ere we joined here, we're going to get now
hopefully you guys understand this time we're having this conversation
(28:32):
a moment to go Fast Times at Ridgemont High rank
for you from Gibson County.
Speaker 3 (28:36):
That has to be high on your list. Right there,
it is pretty high, right after Urban Cowboy, Yeah, yeah,
right after Greece. Greece is a word for Jessica. Jamie
is here as well. Where's Fast Times ranked for you? Jamie?
You better say the right thing right up there, right
(28:59):
up there at a girl right there, a girl Fast Times.
We'll celebrate that with a re entries today. You did
say though, that you like John Hughes movies though. Yeah,
so you like the Breakfast Club and sixteen candles, probably pretty.
Speaker 6 (29:13):
In pink and yeah smiler and all that stuff.
Speaker 3 (29:17):
So, hey, Jamie, how are you.
Speaker 11 (29:19):
I'm fine, Thank you.
Speaker 3 (29:19):
Good.
Speaker 5 (29:20):
So we're here today and very excited about a lot
of things. Jessica got us started, So go ahead and
continue the conversation about what we're about.
Speaker 3 (29:27):
The witness today as a finisher to the fair circuit.
Speaker 12 (29:31):
Yes, you're about to watch the best of the best
of the fair circuit Indiana has to offer. They've worked
very hard to get here and now they go from
half mile racetracks to a mile racetrack and everybody always
hopes to get a little bit more out of their horse.
Speaker 11 (29:46):
Today.
Speaker 10 (29:47):
That is it.
Speaker 5 (29:48):
And we were talking about the long history of this too,
which is pretty cool. What are the the ages of
these horses out here? That's that's one thing I guess
don't understand a lot of these these subtleties.
Speaker 3 (30:02):
I guess.
Speaker 6 (30:02):
So the Ferris is too, These are two and three
year olds s tend okay, So a horse is not
going to race until it's two year old.
Speaker 3 (30:09):
Year okay.
Speaker 6 (30:10):
So you know when I talked about the little bit
of the economic impact. You know, somebody is choosing to
be an Indiana product. Basically, you're breeding the mayor. You
have eleven months gestation, the foal is going to be
born somewhere along. It's ur Lean year. It's either if
you breught it yourself to keep, or if you breught it,
(30:31):
they're going to sell it. If you're a breeder, that's commercial.
You're going to go to the sale. And that's one
of the new rules. Jamie just did she's she's heading
up one of the sales here.
Speaker 3 (30:39):
Thirty five horses that you do? Is that true?
Speaker 10 (30:42):
Oh?
Speaker 12 (30:42):
No, I have thirty five horses in training training. My
husband took over that and then I took them over
the new horse sale here.
Speaker 3 (30:51):
How does how does one get into that? Do you
just do you have to like grow up in it? Jamie?
Speaker 12 (30:55):
Typically, Yeah, ninety percent of the people in harness racing
grew up doing it their grandfather, their father, mother father.
My mother and father both trained and drove standardbred horses.
My entire family, we've there's five of us. I have three,
two siblings, and we all have our driver's license in
we have all driven.
Speaker 11 (31:14):
My husband's family all did it.
Speaker 3 (31:16):
So yeah, and how long have you been I mean,
has this been your whole No, I swear I wasn't
going to do that. Oh you tried to get out
of the family bears.
Speaker 12 (31:25):
I went to college and swore I was not going
to train horses. Six years of sitting in the office,
I got a phone call to just come work for me.
Speaker 11 (31:35):
Come train my horses.
Speaker 3 (31:36):
So what were you doing at that time?
Speaker 11 (31:38):
I was marketing?
Speaker 3 (31:39):
Oh, man, no, wonder, I was marketing. That's what Griff does.
Over there.
Speaker 5 (31:43):
He's asking if you need an assistant, probably right now
to the way there it is.
Speaker 11 (31:49):
He called, and I said, sure, just give me three weeks.
I will be wherever you want me.
Speaker 3 (31:54):
Man, that that seems like that. That is about as
enjoyable as you can get. Actually, if you're a lover
of horses like that, or just a lover of.
Speaker 12 (32:02):
Nature and being outside. And the horses don't talk back.
You know, I have two kids. They tend to speak back. Yeah,
but you know, we we have to know those horses
like the back of our hand because they don't speak.
So then it just becomes you know, very peaceful, very enjoyable.
And it's not easy.
Speaker 11 (32:19):
Don't get me wrong.
Speaker 5 (32:22):
Jamie's the manager of Midwest Standardbred Horse Sale. Right, that's
that's your official title, Jessica.
Speaker 3 (32:28):
By the way, is the X the ex director, No,
I'm the assistant, just as.
Speaker 5 (32:33):
Ex director actor one minute. I don't want to get
you out of your gig grab.
Speaker 3 (32:38):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (32:38):
The Indiana Bread Development Program. And we have had conversations before.
Have we seen this grow over the years, especially since
the last time. It does seem like that.
Speaker 3 (32:48):
I mean, and I get a lot of my info
from Tony Rinz, which I think is a pretty quality resource.
But it seems like that this continues to grow.
Speaker 6 (32:55):
The program continues to grow leaps and bounds, and you know,
we're a contender. When I started, you know, I've been
with the commission since nineteen ninety nine. Yeah, so when
I started, it was it was rare, rare that you
saw an Indiana horse compete, compete nationally. And now our
horses can go anywhere, so we've we're contenders anywhere.
Speaker 3 (33:18):
That's pretty cool, you know, you want to grow from you.
Speaker 6 (33:21):
Know, talking about the sales. When I first started nineteen
ninety nine, you know, we were lucky if you had
a saletopper that was like three four thousand dollars.
Speaker 11 (33:30):
And now our sale stoppers are one hundred and fifty thousands, are.
Speaker 3 (33:32):
They really it's grown that much? Yeah, that's increased.
Speaker 6 (33:36):
So you're being one hundred and fifty thousand dollars for
a horse that you don't know if it's ever going
to do great on the racetrack or not.
Speaker 12 (33:41):
So our readers have done an amazing job of competing
and moving just getting better.
Speaker 11 (33:48):
And better every year.
Speaker 5 (33:49):
How do you gauge whether there is a belief that
that one horse is going to ultimately be better than
the other?
Speaker 3 (33:55):
What is jamie?
Speaker 4 (33:56):
What is that?
Speaker 3 (33:57):
Mommy? Clearly you must must have an eye for it
in some form or fashion. What do you see?
Speaker 11 (34:01):
Well, there's definitely an eye for the animal. But what
you start is you start on paper at first.
Speaker 12 (34:06):
So you look at their mother, their father which is
their sire, and their damn and you look at their siblings.
What what has this damn produced? So it's really on
the damn side. There's only so many stallions. So what
you're looking for is this predominant, just this unbelievable mayor
that's going to throw you a baby and mix with
this sallion and they're just gonna throw you this unbelievable horse,
(34:29):
and then so you look at their siblings and see
what they've done, and then you go and look at
the horse, the yearling, the baby. Yeah, and then we
judge that individual on the way it stands. So their confirmation,
So we want to look do they have straight legs
because you really don't want crooked legs going thirty miles
an hour?
Speaker 3 (34:48):
Whoa are there?
Speaker 5 (34:51):
I don't think i'd want crooked legs regardless, Right, are.
Speaker 11 (34:55):
Their feet crooked? Are there feet straight?
Speaker 2 (34:57):
You know?
Speaker 11 (34:57):
And this is dummy down a lot, yes, but size.
Speaker 3 (35:01):
Well good, I'm the right person for that on this show.
Speaker 5 (35:05):
That's going to end up in a promo. By the way,
this dummy this down for the person that's hosting right now.
Speaker 11 (35:10):
No, no, but I'm just saying we're not.
Speaker 12 (35:12):
You know, there's a lot more into it, but I
am just telling you the the bottom of the basics.
Their size matters because you are asking them to go
compete against other horses and you want to make sure
that they're not tiny.
Speaker 11 (35:25):
So size and confirmation, mother, father and siblings.
Speaker 3 (35:29):
What are stud fees? I'm trying not to giggle.
Speaker 12 (35:33):
Giggle, Indiana, Our stud fees are very reasonable. We thank
our breeders for that, so it does keep us very competitive.
Stud fees are about ten ten thousand dollars or less.
Speaker 5 (35:47):
I'm still holding back right now. I still want to
jump right in my legs bouncing around here. I'm all nervous.
Speaker 6 (35:54):
I see.
Speaker 12 (35:54):
You know, they could go anywhere as in the in
Ohio's boot right now. Ohio is our biggest state in
the in the country right now as far as stallions goes,
and they're getting twenty thousand dollars creating?
Speaker 3 (36:09):
Do we call the riders or drivers?
Speaker 11 (36:11):
Drivers?
Speaker 6 (36:11):
Drivers?
Speaker 8 (36:12):
So?
Speaker 3 (36:12):
How how are they trained? I mean, you just got
to know this. You want to know the absolutely do Jamie.
Speaker 11 (36:20):
Yes, you either have it or you don't.
Speaker 8 (36:23):
Oh, you do.
Speaker 3 (36:24):
That is how they're But you got to be like
pocket sized, don't you know? You don't you could be
like me, like some big out there.
Speaker 11 (36:31):
Yeah, there's no size requirement, no no guidelines. It's in
your hands.
Speaker 12 (36:37):
I know that sounds crazy, but you are comp one
percent communicating with that horse with just your.
Speaker 11 (36:44):
Hands and that's it.
Speaker 3 (36:45):
Whoa you know.
Speaker 12 (36:46):
So you don't want to be too heavy in their mouth.
You don't want to be too loose in their mouth.
You need to instill confidence in that animal to tell
them they can do this. You know, you're raising You're
going one mile, and you want the quarter of that
mile to be the best quarter that horse has. So
for three quarters of a mile, you're telling them you're good,
(37:07):
you're good, Just sit back, relax, you know.
Speaker 5 (37:10):
And then you're telling me that horses in general are
pretty significant judge of humans.
Speaker 3 (37:16):
Is that what you're saying right here? Right? I mean
they go, yeah, they know if.
Speaker 11 (37:19):
You got it or you don't, and they're going to
give it to you or not.
Speaker 3 (37:22):
Right.
Speaker 6 (37:22):
And there's some drivers that don't get along with certain horses. Yeah,
and they'll tell you, hey, somebody else traving it, you
need to give it along with that.
Speaker 3 (37:29):
Really, yeah, that's outstanding. I learn more every day.
Speaker 8 (37:34):
You know.
Speaker 11 (37:34):
And they're an athlete.
Speaker 12 (37:35):
Those horses are athletes and they're trained as athletes, so
they know to come to come on the track and
give you one hundred percent. However, if you're not asking
for it, they're not giving it.
Speaker 3 (37:46):
So, Jamie, where are you from? Originally?
Speaker 13 (37:48):
Ohio?
Speaker 3 (37:49):
Yeah? Okay? So, and it's it's big over there too.
What does Indiana?
Speaker 8 (37:53):
You know?
Speaker 12 (37:53):
It was it was huge growing up? It was the
most populated state in our breed. Well then it died
and in Ohio and unfortunately it's just saw the worst
of worst times and they're building it up to now
it's booming and everything's moving back to the Midwest. Well
that's why we named the new sale Midwest Standardbred Horse
Sale because everything's.
Speaker 11 (38:13):
Coming back this way.
Speaker 5 (38:15):
That's outstanding. So Jessica, to tell us again what people
are going to see coming up letter off the deicular.
Things are all going to ramp up here at the
five o'clock are going.
Speaker 6 (38:21):
To be eight races. It is your top eight in
each category of horse, so two year olds, colts, phillies, pacers, trotters,
so eight different categories of horses and those are going
to be your best horses that have earned the most
points recent at the county fairs this summer.
Speaker 5 (38:38):
How did everything go with the last weekend? To get
you guys were on Fox Sports one and Fox Sports two.
That's exciting, right, Yes.
Speaker 3 (38:45):
We had both.
Speaker 6 (38:46):
We had Harris Hoosier Park and Horseshoes back and forth
with each other.
Speaker 3 (38:52):
So are you guys are gonna come back with me
and tell me what's going on at the five o'clock
hour because I'm not going to know. Could you give
me a tutorial while it's going on, because I don't
think Gri grip's over there.
Speaker 5 (39:02):
I don't know what he's look, we're just making fun
of you over there. That's all right, it's all good.
So anyway, the actually sorry, Jamie, go ahead.
Speaker 12 (39:13):
I just wanted to mention that most of the horses
racing today people purchased them at the Midwest end of
Red Well, it was called Who's Your Classic, but this
year it's the Midwest and Red Horse Sale. And so
what you do is you and I we talked about
the sire and the damn and that's where they.
Speaker 11 (39:28):
Pick them out.
Speaker 12 (39:29):
And then for those that don't make the big leagues,
like Jessica was explaining to you earlier, the minor league
and the major league, this is the minor league. So
these horses were bought, more than likely purchased at the
horse sale, and they're learning to see if we want
to bring them back at three and four and race
them in the big leagues.
Speaker 3 (39:47):
So, hey, James, do we have anything after the Harror?
Who's your park? Race of the day to day pal.
Speaker 14 (39:55):
As in guests, are you asking guests, no, no, we
have nothing after the.
Speaker 3 (40:00):
I'll tell you what.
Speaker 5 (40:00):
I'll go a little bit earlier with that wire. You guys,
mind to slide back or you're gonna be busy. I
don't want to pick you away from somebody. Keep I mean,
I would love for somebody to come back right before
six and kind of explain what's going on as it's happening.
If that's okay, that's awesome. You guys are fantastic little tutorial,
the dumbing it down comments. I'll standing right there too.
That made my day right there. All right, guys, we'll
(40:22):
come back with you a little bit later on if
you guys can make it back.
Speaker 6 (40:25):
Sounds great.
Speaker 3 (40:26):
Quick break will come back bow at top of the hour.
Speaker 5 (40:29):
Joey ericson at the five o'clock hours, I mentioned to
the ladies the Herrizuzja Park race of the day is
today in the five o'clock hour, Colt's camp tomorrow, and
more points than I at the outset of the show,
we're live at the Indiana State Fair.
Speaker 3 (40:41):
Got a big day coming up here.
Speaker 5 (40:43):
As we ends closer to the five o'clock hour, don't
go anywhere, it's not he three five, one oh seven five,
The Fan.
Speaker 1 (40:51):
The Ride with JMV A birthday party here ninety three
five and one oh seven five The Fan.
Speaker 3 (41:01):
Now there you go, James, Hey, let me tell you this.
One of the greatest intros in film history is this.
Mike Damone picture it right now walking through the Ridgemont Galleria.
Mall visualize that, and then everybody in the arcade working
(41:25):
at Perry's Pizza. Goh, the Goat will always be the Goat.
Fast Times at Ridgemont High this day back in nineteen
eighty two. Seriously, though, as opening as openers go for
a film, are there any better than Fast Times at
(41:47):
Ridgemont High? Whether we got the beat?
Speaker 5 (41:50):
And really the song guys is perfect because I think
it only goes like two minutes and twenty seconds the
way that it is absolutely from Melinda Carlysle on The
Go Gos back in nineteen eighty two. Actually that song
was on Beauty and the Beat back at eighty one,
but I ended up on the Fast Times at Ridgemont
(42:10):
High soundtrack. I believe they also have another one on
there as well, The Go Gos really good soundtrack, kind
of a very sneaky good eighty soundtrack with a little
bit of new wave and kind of old school rock.
I mean, Haygar's got that great song Fast Times at
Ridgemont High that's somewhat difficult to find as well, which
(42:33):
as solid as a rock, and you know without question,
I mean the Cars had such a tremendous portion of
their careers made. They were already really good, already very popular,
but they probably live on for the moving in stereo
(42:54):
moment of Phoebe Kate's coming out of the pool. Then
they do anything else, I mean anything else, And we're
talking about a historically awesome band, but probably most noted
for that particular scene than they are for anything else.
Speaker 3 (43:12):
Hey, we're live at the Indiana State Fair today. I
would love to see you, and you can track us
down because we're right here on the grand stand the
Governor's Cup, which the races are going to start coming
up here at the five o'clock hour. I know the
consolations went on earlier in the day when Greg was here.
We got you coming up a little bit later on today.
I know Jessica is going to come back and join
(43:33):
us to talk that up. Joel A.
Speaker 5 (43:35):
Erickson of the Star, the joint practices with the Packers
coming up tomorrow, We're going to be at Grand Park
in Westfield for a final time as well. And Kenny
Moore is going to join us on the show coming
up tomorrow. But on the other side across the board
with Kevin Bowen from the Morning Show seven until ten am.
That is the morning Show on the Fan. Kevin Bowen's
going to join us coming up next. They're trotting right now.
(43:57):
I don't know if this is like a practice truck.
I thought you had to be a little tiny dude
to do this, but you don't. But they're trotting at
the Indiana State Fair. I thank you all for joining
us on this Wednesday afternoon. It is glorious. We would
love to see you out here if you had the time.
It's nainety three to five, one oh seven five.
Speaker 1 (44:14):
The Fan, the Ride with JMV.
Speaker 3 (44:20):
I am so tired of dealing with incompetence. It says
one hundred percent guaranteed you moron, mister. If you don't
shut up, I'm gonna kick one hundred percent of your ass.
Speaker 1 (44:29):
Ninety three five and one oh seven five the Fan.
Speaker 3 (44:35):
We celebrate greatness, James turn this up.
Speaker 15 (44:37):
Who fascination Donna No no, from the chick down.
Speaker 3 (44:49):
The hall man. It's Pecoli in and out of traffic
in Jefferson's car.
Speaker 5 (44:55):
Come on, guys, there's nothing better than this. Hey Gars,
fast times at Richmond High. Uh BT's asking me what
happened to the Gore Man. Well, I've brought this up before,
and for whatever reason, they decided not to bring the
gor Man back, which I'm sorry is in Listen, you're
(45:17):
gonna say, well, he's a friend of yours, you're gonna
back him up.
Speaker 3 (45:20):
Well, no, blank.
Speaker 5 (45:22):
But I also understand this, especially when you lived in
a world with your organization of mediocrity or below, when
mediocrity is your high water mark, you better damn straight
have yourself a hype man. Hype Men are always with you,
they always have your back, They're never gonna talk you down,
(45:45):
They're always gonna believe in you. You better have yourself
a good hype man. You better have a good hype
man on the sidelines, somebody on the field, somebody talking
you up on the big screen, somebody having fun out
in the community with people, meeting up with people. Because
the broadcasters and a lot of the former players don't
have time for that.
Speaker 3 (46:07):
The gore Man was a tremendous.
Speaker 5 (46:10):
Hype man and that, I'm sorry is a massive mistakes.
It is, and I will I don't care who's asking me.
I don't care who I'm talking to. It's a massive mistake.
And yes, he is a friend, and it's easy for
me to say that, but it's also easy for me
(46:31):
because I recognize it, and you know when you have it,
and you sure as hell know when you absolutely need it.
And for the most part in the last ten years,
this team has needed it because you're sure as hell
not showing it on the field. Listen, all good teams
(46:53):
have a hype man. Look at New Addition with Michael Bivens.
Michael Bivens couldn't sing, he could barely dance, He sure
as hell couldn't ramp, but he could talk up that
band the consummate hype man, and the Colts will miss that.
Speaker 3 (47:09):
To me, that was a misjudgment. I'm biased, but it's
a misjudgment.
Speaker 5 (47:18):
Are the Andy Moore Automotive Group potline bat By the way,
thank you for that message.
Speaker 3 (47:22):
I hope I answered your question accurately and adequately enough.
Right there.
Speaker 5 (47:26):
Kevin Bowen from the Morning Show joins I hello, keV,
Oh John, how are you. I'm at the state Fair.
I'm trying to track down some bison meat. I need
some bison. It's lean, it's good for me, bison meat.
Speaker 3 (47:43):
What do you think they got it.
Speaker 2 (47:46):
I'm trying to think where it is. It's like Pioneer Village.
I want to say it's right across from that. Uh yeah,
I can fitchure.
Speaker 3 (47:58):
It right now.
Speaker 2 (47:58):
I remember kind of making my way around to some
kid rides last week with the kids and saw a
bunch of bison sign and thought, oh man, I love
me a good bison burger. And that's what John needs
to keep that body going.
Speaker 3 (48:12):
keV. That's why you're my little brother from another mother.
That's it.
Speaker 5 (48:18):
We're bison brothers right there. We know what's good. Bison
me's awesome. By the way, too, have you had it?
Speaker 3 (48:24):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (48:24):
Oh yeah, oh yeah it is. Uh it is excellent.
So yes, it's calling your name. Yeah right, I mean, boy,
I can picture it right now, right across from Pioneer Ville.
It kind of butts up against the massive parking lot.
Speaker 3 (48:37):
Yeah. Hell, did you mention this?
Speaker 6 (48:40):
You know?
Speaker 3 (48:40):
Yeah, that's what I was thinking. That's what I was thinking. Now,
you said, is call my name? Do bison make noise?
Do they neigh or yell or grunt or growl? What
do they do?
Speaker 5 (48:50):
We know what bison do because I mean we can
bring that up because they're bringing back the bison down
in Blimington this year.
Speaker 2 (48:58):
Right, Yeah, I mean let me let me go into
Max Bone and Broom and bring out his animal Shouting
book and I can.
Speaker 5 (49:05):
Let you know, Hey, can you go ahead and slide
in a DVD of Wild Kingdom from nineteen sixty five,
Have Marlon Perkins tell us what a bison might do?
Speaker 2 (49:15):
Yeah, honestly one of the best show. Like on Saturday morning,
we like wake up and you know it's just all right.
When do we stop, you know, letting them watch cartoons?
And we've come across on WHR They've got like one
of those shows on. I swear it's like nine or
ten am, and I'm like, now, this is awesome. Here
we are modern animals in the wild. Kids are enthralled. Yes,
(49:38):
they absolutely love it. And on the IU front, are
is it gonna be a live bison? I don't want
any mascot. I want a real live bison. No, I
preferbly behind the visitors.
Speaker 3 (49:49):
Bench well, you know, and I feel bad about you
could go over to Red for I don't know. Are
the Red Fraser bison at that bison farm. I think
it's in and around Worth, around Green County? Are they
real bison or are they like a cow bison mich
Are they a mixture of something? Are they real like
(50:11):
absolute bison?
Speaker 5 (50:12):
I don't know that for sure. Yeah, I don't bison hybrid.
I don't know if you want a bison hybrid running around.
Speaker 8 (50:18):
Do you?
Speaker 10 (50:19):
Right?
Speaker 2 (50:20):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (50:20):
I don't, you know.
Speaker 2 (50:21):
I'm trying to channel my inner John Decker here with
IU athletics. I thought back to the day I thought
they they had a live bison that they.
Speaker 3 (50:32):
Kept be somewhere in Brown County.
Speaker 2 (50:34):
I could be dead wrong on that, but as soon
as I heard that, I said, bring it back twenty
twenty five. How many live mascots do we even have
in college sports anymore? I mean, we can't have more
than five or six?
Speaker 3 (50:47):
What's that longhorn? Bevo?
Speaker 5 (50:49):
And there's a you know, they have a bison or
a buffalo in Colorado that runs all over the place
and craps everywhere, too, right, I think.
Speaker 2 (50:56):
Right, yeah, I do we have a live ram or
the Colorado State Rams allowed to have a ram out there.
I'm sure I'm forgetting I'm forgetting something. So yeah, I
mean you got ud obviously got Butler Blue, you know.
I mean again, these are things that we need real
live college It's just something about college football that a
(51:18):
live animal mask.
Speaker 3 (51:19):
I just had something.
Speaker 5 (51:21):
Hey, do you remember this is well before you and
this was well, I want to say, this is in
the era of colts losing, although that's where we are
right now, but it was in the early stages in
that era of Colts losing, when they had the horse
on the field that took a dump in the end zone.
Speaker 3 (51:40):
Do you remember that? Have you seen that picture? Yes?
Speaker 2 (51:45):
I was gonna say I don't have in person memories
of it, but yes, I've definitely seen the photo.
Speaker 3 (51:50):
Yeah, that's what you don't want. You can't have the
mascot taking a dump anywhere on the field.
Speaker 2 (51:55):
Ken you No, no, no, no, that's that's probably where we.
Speaker 5 (51:59):
Have to all the line there, especially when you already
have a pretzel. It looks like one that's problematic too.
Speaker 3 (52:06):
Boy.
Speaker 2 (52:06):
Yeah, that is uh, that is quite the site there,
the old uh, the old pretzel. There yeah, I saw that.
Speaker 3 (52:11):
Uh do you see that around? Did you see that
that in a horseshoe designed or did you immediately see it.
Speaker 14 (52:17):
In a.
Speaker 3 (52:18):
Uh crap design?
Speaker 2 (52:22):
Yeah? So to speak, Yeah, now I saw it in
the ladder again, we're we're trying to potty train Max thone.
Not that is not gonna stoop. They're looking like that.
Speaker 3 (52:32):
But I've just seen so much that.
Speaker 2 (52:34):
Yeah, that was that was hot and didn't give me
a sided cheese with that and section four twenty three
waiting for Blue to do the allegiance talks. Now I
saw exactly youtho.
Speaker 5 (52:46):
Yeah, that's that's problematic right there. That is Kevin Bowen
with us. We'll double back to the Colts. I know
we'll both be up there coming up tomorrow for the
practice against the Packers, then obviously preseason Game two coming.
Speaker 3 (52:58):
Up on Saturday.
Speaker 5 (53:00):
But I made a point keV for this last night,
and I'll give the Fever credit for one of the
three games above five hundred. With what they've had to
deal with injury wise has been massive this year. I
do get that, but I've had my limit of the
officiating complaints and I'm normally one that loves to point
(53:20):
the finger at professional officials, whether it's NBA or WNBA.
I mean, it's all pretty funny to me, and I
like to make fun of him, but I'm over that.
For one, you turn the ball over eighteen times, and
you're going to struggle beating anybody, even a team as
bad as Dallas. If you turn it over eighteen times,
I think twelve times in the first half that's problematic.
(53:43):
And the other thing is I think this Stephanie White
is going to push the limit on this enough because
we're almost seeing the Sibonis effect. If you remember back
in the day of Sibonis here and I used to
talk about him getting the worst whistle in the NBA
and that kind of material eye into him constantly beefing
with the officials standing down on one end while the
(54:05):
play is going on the other end.
Speaker 3 (54:08):
And you see some of that from Aleijah Boston. And
I think when your coach.
Speaker 5 (54:14):
Talks about it as much as she has now, it
entitles the player to do it, and that is detrimental
across the board. At this point, I would let the
fans and the media bring it up if they want,
I would all together drop it.
Speaker 2 (54:30):
Well, and no one's complaining more than Kaitlyn Clark, if
we're going to be totally honest.
Speaker 3 (54:34):
About the credit.
Speaker 2 (54:35):
I mean, yes, you know, when she plays certainly, and
then I think maybe it's just because we don't watch
on the floor. We haven't watched her on.
Speaker 9 (54:43):
The floor lately.
Speaker 2 (54:43):
But she's shit to be pulled back nightly, you know,
when she's in street close, you know, so that I
don't think is helping the cause either.
Speaker 16 (54:54):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (54:54):
I mean I thought last night, I kind of said
it this morning. I thought, if there is a bad
loss out her last night was the poster child of it.
You know, Dallas was missing one of their best players.
It's not like Pagebeckers went off and they come into
your building and beat you. And they're one of the
worst teams in the league having long five straight. So
(55:15):
uh yeah, to me, you know, I think overall, yeah,
there's probably a bigger conversation with WNBA officiating, but you know,
to go there after a game when you deserve to lose. Yeah,
I didn't necessarily agree with that.
Speaker 5 (55:32):
It was it's it's a lame crutch and you can't
have it because again, I think it entitles the players
to accommodate and then you see that and how detrimental
that is on the floor. Yeah, I think listen, Aliah
Boston can be one of the better players in the WNBA,
but oftentimes she's dealing with a lot out there that
(55:56):
unfortunately keeps her from playing I think on both ends
the way that she should. I thought at times last
night there were examples of that.
Speaker 2 (56:06):
Yeah, it's frankly, last night, I mean they just got
their ass kicked down low by a six to seven
bench player having a career game. I mean, if you
you know, if you kind of want to summar yeah,
obviously there's a questionable call. They're late, but at that
point in the game, I would try to pronounce their name,
but I butchered at about seven times this morning. But yeah,
the the bench player for Dallas just was dominant off
(56:30):
the bench. So that's where the game was long, and
really it was probably lost more in the third quarter
and maybe even the start as well. You know, you
you add that fiery run there in the second quarter,
but you know, one more effort there in the fourth quarter,
you can climb the mountain. One climbing at a second time.
He's probably too much to ask for, and that was clear.
Speaker 3 (56:51):
So Kevin Bowen.
Speaker 5 (56:52):
The Morning Show seven has held ten am on the
fan Weight Day mornings Monday through Friday. Right here, we'll
get away from that for a moment. What do you
think is going to be more of the tail the tape?
What is witnessed in the joint practice with the Packers tomorrow,
or what's going to be on the field in preseason
game two on Saturday.
Speaker 3 (57:13):
It's that quarterback wise, I should say, yeah, I you know.
Speaker 2 (57:18):
I know people are in NFL. People they you know,
look at these joint practices and they hold them in
super super high regard. I still think the game rests
and the fact that you can get literally hit at quarterbacks,
I think those are really really hard not to treat
and higher regard for me, especially with Anthony Richardson's situation.
(57:41):
And you know, how much do you refer back to
old habits when it is real and when you do
have the injury history that he does. So that's where
I would go, you know, from a health standpoint, Green,
but he's not going to play their starters in the
preseason games. I think some would point to, okay, well,
then tomorrow means more and yeah, they probably will do more.
Speaker 5 (58:01):
And well they have a lot of guys that are
injured in general though, so they're just gonna have guys
missing because they're injured right now.
Speaker 2 (58:07):
Yeah, they're missing arguably their best defender and David McKinney
in the safety, and then you know, probably more of
their injuries are offensively wide out. They're super banged up
right now. And then obviously you mentioned Jordan Love, So yeah,
I think with House say night went in Baltimore and
knowing how frustrated Change Second was at that play, I
(58:28):
think that game, especially a quarter and a half, where
you know you can bounce back from that stuff. Unfortunately
we didn't get to see the opportunity for him to
bounce back against Baltimore because he got hurt. You know,
can you do that within a game? And you know
have that anegia that it's so critical to have as
a quarterback. So you know, both of them obviously are elevated.
I think situations and I think both matter, and yeah,
(58:50):
there are some benefits to joint practices you don't get
in a game. But I guess if you made me
pick one or the other, I'd probably slightly go with
the game.
Speaker 5 (58:59):
Kevin Ball and so they anymore Automotive group holeline right here.
Tomorrow is the joint practice with the Packers, final day
of camp up at Grand Park and Westfield, and then
preseason Game two coming up on Saturday. So you guys
had Rick Carlisle on the show this morning taking the
high road on Miles, which we'll get to in a second.
Speaker 3 (59:20):
But here's what I absolutely love about Rick.
Speaker 5 (59:24):
He's I think he is just letting the talk down
the anti belief in this Pacer team this season because
of the injury and the defection. I think he's letting
that fester organically or naturally right now, letting other people
just kind of and hoping to get extra motivation out
(59:48):
of this group.
Speaker 3 (59:49):
I love the way, at least that's the way I
gather he's handling that right now. Yeah, I think he even.
Speaker 2 (59:56):
Brought up the over under, if I'm not mistaken he did.
Speaker 3 (59:59):
He did.
Speaker 2 (01:00:00):
I love it at one point and in the in
the cop I don't know how many twenty you know
year veteran coaches are bringing up Vegas over unders in August,
but you know, he clearly has said attention.
Speaker 3 (01:00:10):
To some of that.
Speaker 2 (01:00:11):
So yeah, I think it will be much more of
like maybe kind of year two when he got back
here of like, hey, you know we have you know,
kind of fully embraced the underdog, everyone's counting us out
and that sort of aspect. And you know, he was
right at different iterations of our convo. You know, he
brought up just how different it will be. I mean,
Terry's Halliburn does so much for you, and you know
(01:00:34):
you might have to win a little bit uglier and
really feed into you know, you're just outright hustle and
the defensive end of the floor, which is not something
you talk about, you know, when when Halliburn is out
there really at all. So yes, I think he will
definitely want to play that card a.
Speaker 3 (01:00:51):
Whole whole lot.
Speaker 2 (01:00:52):
I mean, he was already in mid season mode. I
mean he brought up Oklahoma City on the you know,
second night of the back to back, for the first
home game of the seas in and all of those things.
So yeah, I think Rick will fully embrace that, will
want to play into that, and you know, I think
on the surface there's a reason for that to be successful.
(01:01:14):
There is definitely a big part of me that thinks
there will be various points in the season where we
look at the Pacers and think, Man, I don't know
if we've appreciated Tyree Taliverton, not just with everything he
does and how much easier offensively he makes the game
for so many guys. But yeah, Rick, I think is
(01:01:35):
in full ready to you know, play up that underdog
and no one believes in us and counting us out
all that stuff.
Speaker 5 (01:01:43):
Yeah, I listen, keV. That role is one that has
fit this group even when it's at full strength.
Speaker 3 (01:01:52):
It's fit this group perfectly. So I listen, I buy
that strategy.
Speaker 5 (01:01:57):
It's funny, right, because I think we've all tried to
distance ourselves from the oh what was us?
Speaker 3 (01:02:03):
There's no national game, you know, there's no Christmas game.
You know, we're you know, we're not being respected. I
think we try to distance ourselves from that now. But
I love how the whole underdog role and that theme
has played for this team. And it's even done it
when they've been full strength. Right.
Speaker 2 (01:02:24):
I mean how many times last year in the playoff
run did Rick even bring up you know that that line? Really?
I mean I think back to our today conversations and
you know, hell of the whatever twenty five playoff games
the Faces had, he would bring up. You know, we've
been the underdog in eighteen of them or yep, nineteen
of them, so that's always been something on his mind.
And individually, you know, for gal like Andrew Nemhard or
(01:02:46):
guy like Aaron eth Smith or a guy you know,
even Siakam to degree, whether they where they are drafted
or organizations saying no to them. Obviously whatever happens at
the center will have a bit of a field to that.
So yeah, there's this will be you know, last year's story,
the deeper it went. Yeah, you you naturally became that
(01:03:09):
feel good story. This is one that you know you're
gonna be written off, you know, from October twenty eighth,
you know, on whenever the season starts. You know, last
year was if you had told us, you know, to
start the last season, hey the Pacer was gonna be.
Speaker 3 (01:03:21):
The four seed, you would have thought that was that crazy.
Speaker 2 (01:03:24):
Now this year, if you said, hey, PACER's going to
be the three of the four seed, you know, that's
a little bit more in the lofty category, which from
a coaching standpoint, I think is exactly what you want
and you want, you know, Nemhard playing for a little
more certainly Matherin's playing for a little bit more, and
Smith has an extension available obviously center as well.
Speaker 3 (01:03:44):
I think I see the smoke from the bison meat
over there right now.
Speaker 2 (01:03:51):
You gotta have what you got on site. You got failing,
you got Devin, you got cam, you gotta you gotta send.
Speaker 3 (01:03:57):
Them over there.
Speaker 5 (01:03:58):
Hey, how unusual of a request might it be to
a guy like John Griffin to send him after bison
and then be weird.
Speaker 2 (01:04:09):
Well, I think as long as he come back with
the bython, I'd be worried. He'd send you a two
and a half minute voice memo explaining to you everything
about the byth and everything about you know, the great
thing to stay fair, love.
Speaker 3 (01:04:23):
You grip that you are. It's a play of a
pound and a half of bison on thirty five hundred
cal prescil Bond. No, you're right, that's so true, so true.
Speaker 5 (01:04:43):
All right, So yeah, Colt's coming up on on Saturday
for a preseason game number two and then the joint practice.
Before I let you go here, give me a couple
of thoughts on what you're going to be looking for
and are we going to see hopefully a secondary We
talked about the packers being all dinged up right now
in camp, but this cold secondary is beyond dinged up,
(01:05:04):
I mean health wise.
Speaker 3 (01:05:04):
Are we going to see some guys.
Speaker 5 (01:05:06):
Come back here relatively soon or is that kind of
a trouble spot for you presently?
Speaker 2 (01:05:12):
Yeah, I think definitely a trouble spot. You know, outside
of the obvious quarterback, I think, you know, anytime you
do the joint practices, what happens in the trenches, it.
Speaker 3 (01:05:20):
Sounds like Green Bay is healthy.
Speaker 2 (01:05:21):
O line d line. They whipped you, I thought in
that area last year in that week two lost when
Malik Wilson was a quarterback, and then outside of that
just a linebacker and corner. I mean, those are the
two that I think are really you know, I would
say for most of years, John, you know, three and
a half weeks out of the regular season, you could
say who the starters were, all twenty two of them. Obviously,
(01:05:44):
quarterback you can't right now. Linebacker and corner are two
other ones that I can't name the starter yet. So
Dex's hire Franklin and then alongside Kennymore and Caveriusward. And
that's assuming you know, Kenny is healthy. So those are
a couple of positions.
Speaker 10 (01:05:59):
I think to watch.
Speaker 3 (01:06:01):
Stevin Bowen.
Speaker 5 (01:06:03):
It's the Fan Morning Show with Jeff Rickard and James
Boyd coming up tomorrow morning at seven am. You guys
are gonna be in the studio, right, You're not going
up to Grant Park, correct, Yes.
Speaker 8 (01:06:15):
We are.
Speaker 2 (01:06:16):
Our Grand part practices are over. I guess tomorrow's the
last day, so everybody after.
Speaker 3 (01:06:21):
In indeed, indeed all right? And you are you still
doing stuff with WISH TV Channel eight?
Speaker 2 (01:06:29):
I am yet started.
Speaker 3 (01:06:30):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (01:06:31):
We did one opening night at camp. I think we've
got another one coming up after the Green Bay game.
So yeah, supposed to be my third year doing Sunday
primarily Sundays and Mondays with the great team over there
at which during the.
Speaker 5 (01:06:44):
Cool cow things going over there. By the way, do
you see our good friend Gina, she works over there now?
Speaker 2 (01:06:49):
Yeah, yeah, always great CEO. Gina and I go way back.
Gina's brother, Uh well actually they grew up next door
neighbors with my best friend growing up, so I hung
out with him a lot back in the day, so
we go way back. So yeah, see her over there,
and I'm very glad that which.
Speaker 3 (01:07:06):
You know, brought her on board.
Speaker 10 (01:07:08):
Very smart decision by them.
Speaker 3 (01:07:09):
Not always make fun.
Speaker 5 (01:07:12):
Of the toilet's not flushing over there sometimes, and then
I have to think about the fact when our toilets flush,
it sounds like somebody's playing a trombone.
Speaker 2 (01:07:21):
I swear I got off the elevator yesterday morning, and
I could hear that thing flush the moment I got
I'm like any cats in there for an hour. I'm like, no,
that's just how toilets flushed.
Speaker 3 (01:07:34):
It sounds like the news room, like a fog horn
in San Francisco. In San Francisco.
Speaker 2 (01:07:45):
Before the live Bison runs out of the tunnel to
bring Kurt Signettian company, they just need to play that horn.
Speaker 3 (01:07:50):
To alert everybody that's crazy about that.
Speaker 5 (01:07:53):
I think somebody flushed the toilet inside of the MS
building that they have for sale for thirty five million dollars.
Speaker 3 (01:08:01):
Good luck with that, so yes, good luck with that anyway, keV,
I'll see you out there coming up tomorrow. We'll have
some fun. Hi, John, enjoy the fair.
Speaker 5 (01:08:12):
Kevin Bowen on the Andy Moller Automotive Group potline. I
should mention this because Tony Ram's going to join me
a second. But as we go to break here at
the State Fair that tomorrow. So we're going to be
a Colts camp doing the thing with a joint practice
with the Colts and the packers.
Speaker 3 (01:08:25):
But I am going to am tell you what when
if there's two things I can do, it is yap
and drink. So I am going to be with daymar
Services and with rotary services down by where I live
actually Mallow Run at the Sycamore after my show tomorrow,
(01:08:47):
to speak, I think with business owners and such in
and around Greenwood in the Center Grove area.
Speaker 5 (01:08:54):
So if I were you, i'd get a ticket because
I know. I talked to Dan this morning, the guy
that puts this all together. He goes eight. The beers
are on me, the drinks are on me, and I thought, oh,
I get about thirty five minutes deep in this conversation.
Speaker 3 (01:09:07):
You guys are really going to love it.
Speaker 5 (01:09:09):
But you know how I feel about everybody down there,
and certainly how I feel about our friend Seawn collins
Worth and the work they do with Daymar Services.
Speaker 3 (01:09:16):
It's just outstanding.
Speaker 5 (01:09:17):
So I am absolutely proud to lend conversation my yapping
and drinking going on tomorrow after Coat's camp at the
Sycamore at Mallow Run with our friends from the Rotary
and daymar Services. That is tomorrow, Tony Wren's going to
join us. On the other side. We also have a
special guest with us too. I'll explain and Joela Ericson
(01:09:40):
at the top of the hour at the Indiana State Fair.
It's ninety three to five and one seven five the
ride with JMV.
Speaker 10 (01:09:49):
Why are you continuously late for this class, mister Spiccoli,
Why do you shamelessly waste my time like this?
Speaker 2 (01:09:57):
I don't know?
Speaker 1 (01:09:58):
Ninety three to five and.
Speaker 3 (01:10:01):
The fan.
Speaker 5 (01:10:05):
Oh, Patty was a part of the soundtrack too. Let's
go ahead and pull in the parking lot for the
first day of school and then the cruising vessel love
fast times are rich Mott high. I love that's such
a great scene celebrating today, the anniversary of the goat
(01:10:32):
State Fair is our location today. Look at Tony Wrens
joining us once again.
Speaker 3 (01:10:37):
John, you know Saturday night, how was it?
Speaker 17 (01:10:39):
It was fantastic.
Speaker 3 (01:10:40):
My man's getting near a corn right there like crazy.
Look at that thing. If I can get a bite
of that, that's huge, you know, I was.
Speaker 17 (01:10:47):
We've been together four times in the last week. That's
good for I feel like we're brothers.
Speaker 5 (01:10:52):
So he's got Diver on his shirt much like you
have Sonora Diver on your shirt. Is there a connection
Sonora that I'm making? Sonora is joining us too a
long with Tony Rintz. Can I make a connection here?
So my mother moved that right here? I'm so I
moved that a little bit closer.
Speaker 3 (01:11:12):
There you go. Sorry, that's no, it's not your fault.
It's okay, that's me.
Speaker 13 (01:11:16):
So he is part of my stepmother's extended family.
Speaker 3 (01:11:21):
Oh okay, so my.
Speaker 13 (01:11:25):
Step mom's stepdad.
Speaker 3 (01:11:28):
Okay, how old are you? Can I ask you? You're twelve? Wow?
So what Sonora is here for very good reason because
there's a radial of talent here.
Speaker 17 (01:11:41):
A little backstory on that. She was supposed to come
on last Wednesday with her mom. Yeah, And what I
want to really kind of focus on out there is
the generations of harness racing. So her mother and dad
are both trainers and owners, her dad's mother and dad
(01:12:02):
are trainers and owners. And it just keeps going up. Sonora.
We believe, we know she's at least a fourth generation
horse person.
Speaker 3 (01:12:10):
Nice.
Speaker 17 (01:12:11):
She couldn't come on last Wednesday because she was actually
showing horses here at the fair, and when they got done,
they were pretty beat. And you know, I got to
know Sonora about four years ago and a super young lady.
Her aarents are very they should be very proud of
the girls she's turning into and the young lady she's
turning into. And I wanted to her just just come
(01:12:33):
on here and just talk about a day in her
life of dealing with horses.
Speaker 5 (01:12:37):
Well, Sonora, can you indulge our good friend Tony Wrenz.
What is a day in the life of you at
twelve years of age?
Speaker 4 (01:12:44):
So usually once I get home from school, I usually
go to the house waiting chills for like ten fifteen minutes.
Than usually my dad or my stepmom will come and
pick me up and we will go to the barn.
So there we have about eight horses currently racing. Wow,
do you have a lot of chores when you have horses?
It's all a chork.
Speaker 3 (01:13:05):
What is what is the worst of it? What is
the most dreaded of the Sonora diver chores?
Speaker 4 (01:13:12):
I want to say, the one that I least like
doing and the one that I feel like I'm not
the best at is cleaning stalls. Now, that's usual for
most people. Usually most people don't like cleaning stalls. But
I also just feel like.
Speaker 13 (01:13:25):
I stuck at it.
Speaker 5 (01:13:27):
Well what I mean, I'm curious. It seems like to
me there'd be only one way to do it. But
I'm a novice, Sonara, I'm not like you. It's like,
all right, there's something there, let's get it out of here.
Is there more to it than that?
Speaker 4 (01:13:41):
So usually they like to bury their peace, so like
they'll pee and it'll just sink it. So you have
to dig for it, dig for this disgusting and then
every once in a while you have to completely deep
clean it. You have to strip the entire stall, put
like two wheelbarrels of fresh saltust in. It's just it's
time consuming, it's disgusting, it's smelly.
Speaker 11 (01:14:03):
It's just love.
Speaker 3 (01:14:05):
Shout out to Digging for the Pea on this show
on a Wednesday afternoon, right here live at the Indiana
State Fair. Man, I'm glad you brought Herly is a
good girl right there.
Speaker 17 (01:14:14):
She has taught me so much about horse racing.
Speaker 3 (01:14:17):
Really, oh absolutely, Like, what give me a good example
of it?
Speaker 10 (01:14:21):
You know?
Speaker 17 (01:14:22):
She will we work the speed barn together. So on
days we don't race. We have a barn over there.
We'll run two three thousand people through petting horses and
and just doing VR goggles. We've got a VR goggle set.
That's fantastic. That's what she does. So I'll tell her.
So you get you put on these VR goggles. Yeah,
(01:14:42):
and you're in the race. You got horses all around
you and you got to get up in the set.
We actually have a bike k Asalki that you get
up on the seat and you're holding the line.
Speaker 3 (01:14:52):
So it's like virtual racing. Is that's how you practice?
Speaker 13 (01:14:55):
So absolutely, So it's not really how we practice.
Speaker 4 (01:14:57):
It's more of how we get people to like know
and like get the feel of it, like what these
drivers do, right, but without the danger.
Speaker 17 (01:15:06):
Okay, so she showed me how to get in the
race bike because I'm over there trying to climb under
over and I'm I'm making a mockery of it, and
she goes, Tony, just put your butt down and then
swing your legs over.
Speaker 3 (01:15:19):
You know what.
Speaker 5 (01:15:20):
She's twelve and already better on the radio than either
one of us right here. Did you hear that she
sounds awesome on the radio. Yes, At twelve. That is
well done, right there. So you're from Converse. Are you
going to Okill yes, sir? Oh yeah, and you know
oh Kill High School?
Speaker 13 (01:15:39):
Yes, it's the one that my dad went to as well.
Speaker 3 (01:15:41):
Yeah. Well really, now was your dad a horse guy?
Sports guy too? What did he do?
Speaker 13 (01:15:48):
So my I really only know a lot about my
grandmother's side.
Speaker 3 (01:15:53):
Sure, I understand.
Speaker 4 (01:15:54):
So my late grandma, she sadly passed away last year.
She had about three I want to say. I know
she didn't have more than five, but not less than one.
Speaker 5 (01:16:07):
Oh Kill High School, Converse, Indiana. That is that is
very convers Grant Marion's in Grand County, so that would
be Grand.
Speaker 3 (01:16:16):
County right there.
Speaker 13 (01:16:17):
I think now we're all confused.
Speaker 3 (01:16:19):
That's what we do here.
Speaker 5 (01:16:20):
So I just confuse everybody on counties and location and such.
So what are you doing coming up here a little
bit later on? What's your priorities?
Speaker 4 (01:16:29):
So later we have about two horses racing, Premiere Margarita
in the fifth race I believe, and in Kirkland.
Speaker 13 (01:16:35):
In the sixth.
Speaker 3 (01:16:36):
Wow, So what are your responsibilities for that?
Speaker 4 (01:16:39):
So usually I will harness them, I will unharness them.
I So that is usually before the race. So before
the race, my duty is to harness them up, which is,
put all the equipment on them and get them ready
to go out and warm up first. And then whenever
they come back in from their warm up, I will
rinse them off with all of their harness.
Speaker 13 (01:17:00):
Uh, just get all the sweat and and just yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:17:05):
Now, do you have a pretty special relationship with the horses?
Cann't tell?
Speaker 4 (01:17:09):
I want to say I do. Uh, there's of course horses.
Horses don't. You don't pick the horse, the horse picks you.
So a lot of the times you will have more
special relationships with the ones that like you and you
like and then you'll have your bad relationships. You'll have
your horses that really don't like people.
Speaker 3 (01:17:26):
Or just are just I can't imagine being a horse
that doesn't like you. You seem like you're very personable,
thank you. So are there horses that you can tell
that that don't dig you around them?
Speaker 8 (01:17:37):
Oh?
Speaker 13 (01:17:38):
Yeah, it's quite obvious. Y.
Speaker 4 (01:17:41):
So, usually horses communicate by their facial expressions, right, So
they'll usually pin their ears whenever they don't like something
or like whenever, like, let's say they're touching I'm touching
a spot that's sore on them, they'll pin their ears.
They'll kind of swing around me like say, hey, I
don't like that.
Speaker 13 (01:17:56):
Quit.
Speaker 4 (01:17:57):
And then there are some horses who like that to
other horses. Like we have a horse, Everly Grace. She
not a huge fan of other horses, so she'll kind
of like say, get away from me.
Speaker 13 (01:18:08):
I don't.
Speaker 3 (01:18:09):
Yeah, Is that is that a term that created? Pin
your airs back? Do we know that that made?
Speaker 5 (01:18:16):
That's a lot older, so nore than you would you
know that, Tony, I don't, cause I hear football people saying, well,
we're gonna pin our ears back and go after him.
Speaker 3 (01:18:24):
Is that it might be serious?
Speaker 17 (01:18:26):
I know what you're talking.
Speaker 3 (01:18:27):
Yeah, I'm gonna I hear it, and it's really weird sounding. Yeah.
I've never really understood what it meant.
Speaker 5 (01:18:32):
I just always thought, well, that means you're gonna go
pretty hard after the quarterback, or hard on this particular
We're gonna pin our ears back and go after the quarterback.
Speaker 17 (01:18:40):
I bet you that did come from horse racing, the
similar way that the Indiana Pacers got their name.
Speaker 3 (01:18:45):
Well, horse racing there there is.
Speaker 17 (01:18:48):
I think you're probably absolutely right. Go back to harnessing.
Speaker 4 (01:18:51):
John so if you kind of look over here, kind
of coming more towards of that section, Yes, the one
more down closer.
Speaker 13 (01:18:59):
Huh, that is actually my dad.
Speaker 3 (01:19:01):
Really yes, well, we're gonna keep talking to you until
your dad rolls right by here.
Speaker 13 (01:19:06):
So his colors.
Speaker 4 (01:19:08):
So fun fact about this, Okay, drivers will actually pick
their colors at the beginning of their driving career and
they will have those colors throughout their life. So right here,
he's warming up our horse called Premiere Margarito, or as
we call Margarita, so she will be in the fifth race.
Speaker 13 (01:19:22):
She's up pretty tough. He's not great.
Speaker 3 (01:19:26):
Those are some sweet colors, thank you. It looks like
it looks like Ron Collie High School. Looks like ron
Collie Royal rolling by right there with the ron Collie colors.
So he selected those colors. Yes, he will be How
long how long has that been? Years ago?
Speaker 4 (01:19:43):
Well before, I want to say, so drivers usually way
before me, yes, way before me. So I believe Tony
fact checked me on this that drivers can start driving,
or that a trainer can start driving at sixteen?
Speaker 13 (01:19:58):
Is it sixteen? There you go, so probably sixteen seventeen or.
Speaker 5 (01:20:03):
Sonora, I need a good sidekick. On the air here
would you like to be that? I think you could
be one heck of a sidekick.
Speaker 13 (01:20:09):
Hey, I got all these things to deal with.
Speaker 5 (01:20:11):
Well, I mean we got to put something else on
your plate right here at Sonora, I got too much
money you have, you have an outstanding personality and it's
at you're.
Speaker 3 (01:20:21):
Twelve years old. Check me on this, Tony.
Speaker 5 (01:20:29):
That was a great response right there. So you've got
responsibilities coming up here? And when do you go to school?
When's that happen? Could you not be? Should you not
be there?
Speaker 3 (01:20:42):
Right now? Can I ask you? Because this is a
Wednesday in them, I'm playing hooky all right, hooky being played.
Speaker 4 (01:20:50):
We love playing hooky the first day of school too.
Speaker 18 (01:20:54):
Well, I'm assuming too, and there are you know, there
are a lot of people especially I mean o'kill is
a smaller to me to definitely, I'm assuming the educators
there understand that this is Sonora's time of year where
she's got to do some work.
Speaker 3 (01:21:07):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:21:07):
But now that the fair races are kind of starting
to slow down, like we started to race it, who's
your I am unfortunately unable to go paddock at who's
your part? Because I'm not old enough yet I have
to before.
Speaker 3 (01:21:20):
You can share his heck fula my bit by just
talking to him, talk him up a little bit. Yeah.
I don't even know if I'm allowed to mention that
on this show. Knowing that is awesome right there. So
what do you do besides what do you do in school?
Do you do sports or anything like that? Or is
this occupy all your time? This very well occupied those
(01:21:41):
so so you will, Sonia? You like country music too? Oh?
Speaker 4 (01:21:45):
Definitely, nineties, eighties, two thousands.
Speaker 3 (01:21:49):
Well who do you like?
Speaker 13 (01:21:51):
Mmma?
Speaker 3 (01:21:54):
Did you go see him on Friday? Or are you busy?
Speaker 15 (01:21:57):
Sadly?
Speaker 8 (01:21:58):
Oh?
Speaker 13 (01:21:58):
We were so busy. Actually we had Dirks.
Speaker 3 (01:22:01):
Bentley, Yeah, okay.
Speaker 13 (01:22:05):
Medium, he's okay. Luke Bryant definitely, definitely.
Speaker 5 (01:22:09):
You know my friend Clayton Anderson. You ever heard of
Clayton Anderson. We love Clayton Anderson. So one of these
days he's an All Ages show guy. You can go
go see him as well. Not Florida Georgia line, don't
say that. I don't know if we like them very much. Listen,
it has been awesome, Sonora to have you on the show.
Thanks for coming by. If I ever need a sidekick,
(01:22:31):
are you up for it. Do you ever watch basketball
or football or anything like that.
Speaker 3 (01:22:36):
No, horses. Ye, if I ever have to know something
about horses. We're coming after, Sonora. That don't come after Tony, Sonora.
It is outstanding to meet you.
Speaker 5 (01:22:51):
Thank you for having me. And the blue and the
royal blue and the red and the white color that
you can see. And the horse's name is again.
Speaker 13 (01:23:01):
Premiere, Margarita.
Speaker 3 (01:23:02):
My dad's name is Jeff, Jeff, Premiere Margarita. Her dad's
name is Jeff. And this is oh of your same
old Tony Rims right.
Speaker 17 (01:23:09):
Hey, it's the same old guy.
Speaker 5 (01:23:10):
We'll try to talk with you a little bit later
on pal. Thank you very much, John Tony, thank you, Sonora.
Great to made shoes. That's awesome right there, Sonora Devers
shout out. I know the reaction is going to be
awesome here on social media. I know you liked her
a great deal. That is super At the age of
twelve at the Indiana State Fair, Jolie Erickson at the
top of the hour will take a break and come
(01:23:31):
back in the Harrizu'sia Park race of the day.
Speaker 3 (01:23:33):
There goes Jeff. One more time for us, not with
you next ninety three to.
Speaker 8 (01:23:37):
Five, one five, The Fan, The Ride with JMV saying
no shirt, no shoes, no.
Speaker 1 (01:23:49):
Dies ninety three five and one oh seven five the Fan.
Speaker 3 (01:23:55):
Fast Times at Richmond Hi.
Speaker 5 (01:23:57):
We're gonna hear it all the great quotes from the Goat,
which came out on this date back in nineteen eighty two.
Speaker 3 (01:24:05):
And the choice I made on this date in eighty
two was for a film called Wacko. See here's the
other thing too. This Jackson Brown song now is now
known for Stacey Hamilton losing her virginity.
Speaker 5 (01:24:24):
So what it's known for, seriously, that is how great
this film was. You just get stuff, and now its
song is known for something absolute.
Speaker 3 (01:24:34):
That's it.
Speaker 5 (01:24:35):
This date back in nineteen eighty two, I would have
to look up who is in Wacko. I think Joe
Don Baker, the late Joe Don Baker was in. It
was like an ensemble cast and it was really stupid.
And at the Bloomington College Mall Cinema we went to
(01:24:55):
see that instead of Fast Times at Ridgemond High And
then they both came out of the same day, no doubt.
Speaker 3 (01:25:03):
Kevin Bowen a little bit earlier.
Speaker 5 (01:25:04):
And I hope you like Sonora Sonora Deaver was awesome
from Converse, Indiana. The twelve year old with Tony Wrenz
absolutely outstanding Indiana State Fairs all ocasion.
Speaker 3 (01:25:16):
Thank you all for joining us. I might take a
little bit earlier on the fever from last night.
Speaker 5 (01:25:22):
And especially with the complaining about the lack of colts
or the officiating. And I'm somebody who loves to complain
about professional basketball officiating, but I think it's time to
stop that. Really, all the way around from coach on down,
we hit that a little bit. But the Colts coming
up tomorrow, we're going to be live at Colts Camp
(01:25:43):
for a final time.
Speaker 3 (01:25:44):
The joint practice with the Packers will be there. Kenny
Moore is going to join me tomorrow and to further
discuss it is Joel A. Erickson of The Star who's
going to join us.
Speaker 5 (01:25:54):
Coming up on the other side, as we've got some
standard red horse racing going on on, some championships being
decided from fares across the state of Indiana. That is
all happening over the course of the next hour plus
at the Indiana State Fair. Don't go anywhere. It's ninety
three to five to one oh seven five.
Speaker 3 (01:26:15):
The fan.
Speaker 1 (01:26:19):
The ride with jmv Am. I hallucinating here.
Speaker 13 (01:26:22):
Just what in the hell do you think you are doing?
Speaker 1 (01:26:24):
I've learned about Cuba, haven't some feroit ninety three five
and one oh seven five, the Fan.
Speaker 3 (01:26:34):
Fast Times Anniversary Celebration, State Fair, Search for a Little
Bison Meet and watching the Trotters trot for a championship. Hey,
tomorrow we're going to be watching the cults of the
Packers up at Grand Park and a joint practice Kevin
Billhen We talked about that a little bit earlier. I
(01:26:55):
mentioned Kenny Moore is going to be on the show
coming up tomorrow meantime of the Andy Moore about if
group potline. He has a friend of the show.
Speaker 5 (01:27:02):
He is a big time fan of the Brewers, and
we absolutely love to go old school Brewers on this
show as much as possible. And I'm sure he really
wants to talk about him now, considering they are running
away from things in the Central and looking as good
as anybody maybe not named the Toronto Blue Jays as
of right now, Joel A.
Speaker 3 (01:27:22):
Erickson joins us. Hello, Joel, how are you?
Speaker 10 (01:27:26):
I'm doing good?
Speaker 8 (01:27:27):
Are you aware?
Speaker 10 (01:27:28):
You probably aren't, but are you aware of the George
Webb promotion in Milwaukee.
Speaker 3 (01:27:32):
I am not help me out.
Speaker 10 (01:27:34):
There is a burger joint in Milwaukee called George Webb.
It's like a diner and it's been around for a
long long time.
Speaker 3 (01:27:42):
And they said in the forties.
Speaker 10 (01:27:44):
Or something like that that if the local baseball team
won twelve games in a row, they would give out
free burgers. And it's happened twice. Happened in nineteen eighty
seven with your Guy Robbed the Ear, happened in nineteen
eighty seven, was your Guy robbed here? It happened in
twenty eighteen. And currently, uh, they are like an inning
away from this Burger joint having to shell out free
(01:28:07):
burgers to the entire city for the third time.
Speaker 3 (01:28:10):
Holy crap.
Speaker 10 (01:28:12):
Yeah, I don't know what the Indianapolis I don't know
what the Indianapolis equivalent would be, as some kind of
pacers winding streak. We need to get a restaurant on this.
Speaker 3 (01:28:22):
Yeah, I didn't see that. That's how kind of like this.
Speaker 5 (01:28:27):
They've been doing this promotion in Cincinnati with you know,
hit the Toyota Tundra and when the Tundra and nobody
ever gonna hit that hang up there, I mean, I
guess probably the best opportunity is Kyle Swarbur who's been
in town with the Phillies. Probably nobody's ever gonna nobody's
ever gonna hit it up there. I would say, La,
I guess could hit it up there. But I mean
(01:28:47):
this is one where you know, normally they kind of
put something at a reach in which to So I'm
assuming I thought anything like what happened, and I would
say I would agree. I mean, it has been a
magical season, and you bring up the Pacers and they
kind of lived on everything up until Game seven of
(01:29:08):
the NBA Finals going right. For them to get to
where they ultimately got in the postseason.
Speaker 10 (01:29:15):
It's a very there's some analog There's some analogs beyond
the fact that they kind of have the same color
scheme for the jersey they you know, Miles Turner had
the Power of Friendship quote. The Breweries have shirts with
the power of Friendship on them. So there's there's some
analogs I think between the the Pacers and the and
the Brewers.
Speaker 2 (01:29:34):
Like I said, we need to get a.
Speaker 10 (01:29:35):
We needed a local restaurant on a twelve Pacers games
in a row or something everybody gets free burgers. Like
I said, I don't know what the right restaurant is,
but someone's got to do it.
Speaker 3 (01:29:47):
So is this detrimental or beneficial to the burger chain?
Speaker 10 (01:29:55):
Uh, that is a great question. I they don't have
insurance for it. I think I think it's pretty tough
for them when it happens, because it's my understanding is
that when they've figgured this promotion in the past, it's
been thousands and thousands and thousands of burgers because anybody
in Milwaukee can show up and just ask for a burger.
(01:30:15):
So I do think they take a bit of a
hit on it, but it also keeps people going into
a into a diner that you know.
Speaker 3 (01:30:21):
Quite frankly, my.
Speaker 10 (01:30:22):
Understanding is that it was much more popular back in
the day than it is now.
Speaker 3 (01:30:27):
Okay, that's certainly understandable.
Speaker 5 (01:30:29):
Well, listen, I would have to think anybody would want
to be involved in a magical season like that, especially
the way.
Speaker 3 (01:30:36):
That things are going right now.
Speaker 5 (01:30:38):
Because I mentioned outside of the Blue Jays, you're watching
the Blue Jays, there's no more exciting and winning consistently
team out there than what you've seen from the Brewers.
Speaker 10 (01:30:48):
It's it's it's it's only mid August. The guys put
that in there, But yeah, it's if they win this one,
I think they go to thirty two games over five hundred,
which is not a number that they've ever really been
at at the end of.
Speaker 2 (01:31:01):
The d.
Speaker 5 (01:31:03):
How good does it make him feel considering that at
the same time, they're also doing a curb stomp to
Craig Council.
Speaker 3 (01:31:10):
Is that good?
Speaker 10 (01:31:11):
Uh?
Speaker 19 (01:31:12):
Yeah, yeah, books, true true Brewers fans are not the
biggest fans of that, gentleman, I don't imagine, so, don't
imagine so at all.
Speaker 3 (01:31:24):
So I can see that everybody's pretty happy about that.
Two good things and like a package right here with
Joey Erikson of The Star, Hey, I was talking about
this a little bit earlier. We'll get to the whole
quarterback situation in just a second, because I do have
an interesting question about that dynamic as it pertains to
tomorrow and then again on Saturday. But outside of that,
(01:31:46):
what's your major focus coming up tomorrow in that joint
practice with the Packers.
Speaker 10 (01:31:51):
I want to see if and this has kind of
gotten neutralized a little bit here because Jordan Love.
Speaker 3 (01:32:00):
Is not going to play in it.
Speaker 2 (01:32:03):
Well.
Speaker 10 (01:32:03):
I kind of want to see how some of these
corners that we weren't talking about at the beginning of
camp fare against the Green Bay receivers, and I think
that I think Green Bay receivers are also pretty banged up.
Speaker 3 (01:32:15):
I think I saw that today.
Speaker 10 (01:32:17):
But you know, we we still don't really know, uh,
the extent of the hamstring injuries to Jalen Jones and
Juju Brnch. Justin Wallly's out for the year. You know,
is Sam Womack gonna be playing significant snaps in the
season opener, first couple of games. Is Jonathan Edwards, the
undrafted free agent from Tulane? Is he going to be
(01:32:39):
playing significant snap? I want to see if they if
those guys kind of hold up there against the Packers
offense a little bit since since a thought that we
all thought was going to be pretty deep has been
thinned out considerably. Did injury.
Speaker 3 (01:32:55):
I get that, and get that a great deal.
Speaker 5 (01:32:57):
It's funny because on the Packer side of things, they're
dealing with a lot of injuries too, but it doesn't
seem like it, and we're not there. I mean, we
don't concentrate on that like we do the Colts but
it doesn't seem like that they're as engaged and as
concerned about it there because I don't know how many
of their guys were going to play anyway now in
the joint practice. Probably so, but you know, they're as
(01:33:19):
much of a mass unit as we've seen with the
Colts in that secondary. Really across the board for that
Packer team so far.
Speaker 10 (01:33:26):
Yeah, absolutely, And my guest has been this week that
whatever the Colts decided to do, and it sounds like
Shane Stakin's going to play as starters for the first quarter,
I still think maybe a couple of those guys aren't.
We're not going to see them. Maybe the Jonathan Peters type,
maybe we don't see, but the Packers haven't. I don't
know if the Packers have said I haven't seen if
(01:33:47):
Mattle with Lewi said anything today. But I'm not really
expecting the Packers to play their guys because their guys
played last week. Their guys played last week in the
preseason game, and I was thinking that they'd probably take
the opportunity because they are they have injuries up and
down the wide receiver room. Jordan Love is out. Until
(01:34:08):
I think they most people don't expect to really see
him until the fe's an opener, so they've got their
own injuries. I wonder if they hold off in that
pre season game, and I wonder if that first quarter
is starters for the Colts against backups for the Packers.
Speaker 5 (01:34:23):
Joe I mentioned this in terms of the Burger join
in Milwaukee. Is that detrimental or beneficial for the Colts
or does it not matter? Because I just think that
don't you want to see your guys, especially when you
have so many questions about your guys at the most
important position too. Don't you want to see your guys
(01:34:45):
going against their guys. And if that doesn't happen, I
know you you're maybe he's going to see that tomorrow.
But that does not seem like it's as beneficial as
it needs to be for the Colts.
Speaker 10 (01:34:55):
I think that they would prefer I think they would
prefer to see the the starters. But I also think
that they probably well I don't. I know, they pretty
much look at these guys as these joint practices as
that's their time to see the starters versus the starters
to break stuff out. I think in those practices they
(01:35:16):
can do a little bit more they can, you know,
mess with their scheme a little bit more, show a
little bit more than they would in the preseason game
putting that on on tape. They that's why all these
teams are doing, you know, multiple joint practices now where
they used cannot do that. They've gone that way because
they can control the scenario a little bit more and
(01:35:37):
keep some of their stuff from ending up on tape.
You know, we were talking to Loui an Arumo the
other day and he was saying, we're not showing anything
in this in these preseason games. We're playing very vanilla stuff.
You can do a little bit more of that in
the joint practice. And I know, I know in the
past that the staffs have gotten together before the practices
(01:35:57):
that hey, can you give us a little bit of
this and test us this way. So yeah, it really
comes down to that joint practice more than the preseason
game these days.
Speaker 5 (01:36:06):
So do you think that the determination on the week
one starting quarterback is going to come by virtue of
what takes place tomorrow at Graham Park in that final day?
Speaker 10 (01:36:16):
I am It's been hard to get a read on
what Saint Psiken is thinking. And I've been thinking this
all week here, after the after, the the the miss
blitz and the hit last week. There's you know, I
obviously have had not just me, you know a lot
of other guys have had their their eyes on every throw.
(01:36:36):
We've got our thoughts on how it's gone so far.
The thing that none of us can really see and
that we don't know is what is the grade for
the coaching staff on are they going to the right
place with the football? Are they Are they picking up
all those blitzes and doing all the things that they
should be doing, making the adjustments that they should be
(01:36:58):
and making post snap in practice you can kind of
see that, but it's kind of hard to see that
at the same time because they're not getting hit. There's
nothing like the hit Ojaba late On Richardson to sort
of crew you in that's, hey, something went wrong, you know.
So I think that's the other thing is we just
don't know that and don't know if one of them
(01:37:18):
operationally is way ahead of the other one.
Speaker 5 (01:37:23):
Joeli Erickson of The Star. He is on the Andy
Morro Automotive Group potline. The joint practice with the Packers
tomorrow afternoon and then preseason game number two coming up
on Saturday afternoon, Joel's again on the Andy Moore Automotive
Group potline, you're gonna give a nod one way or
the other. It's weird like national people think it's going
(01:37:45):
to be Daniel Jones. I've always thought that it was
going to be Anthony Richardson, and I still continue to
believe it's going to be Anthony Richardson.
Speaker 3 (01:37:53):
Where would you be.
Speaker 5 (01:37:54):
Right now about how all this thing, regardless of you know,
tomorrow and then on Saturday shakes out at the quarterback.
Speaker 2 (01:38:01):
I have leaned Richard.
Speaker 10 (01:38:03):
I leaned Richardson for the first couple of weeks of
TAMP just kind of thinking, you know, if if it's
fairly even, you know, he's got the upside. The last week, though,
I have taught myself.
Speaker 3 (01:38:18):
Out of that a.
Speaker 10 (01:38:19):
Little bit and maybe more into a place of uncertainty,
just because that hit in the Ravens game, not so
much to hit that he took or the injury, but
the fact that it was his responsibility to be to
find the receiver on that play and he's the reason
it took the hit and he shouldn't have been looking
that way has made me think and made me wonder,
(01:38:42):
you know is.
Speaker 12 (01:38:44):
Is it is?
Speaker 10 (01:38:45):
Is that stuff enough? Is there enough of that stuff
going on that maybe it dips back, it dips the
it's kept back towards Jones. I just I can't get
out of my head because the thing is if you
have if they're fairly even, then that you know, you
have the upside with Richardson, But if you also have
the downside of three or four or five plays like
(01:39:08):
that per game where you have something happen and it
could be, you know, in a regular season game, you
lose your starting quarterback, that's one thing. That play also
could be a fumble for a touchdowns. You know, is
the downside so much that they end up deciding to go.
Speaker 7 (01:39:25):
With Daniel Jones.
Speaker 3 (01:39:26):
I don't know where I fall.
Speaker 10 (01:39:28):
I Like I said, up up until last week, I
was I was on the same place you were where
I thought they would probably.
Speaker 3 (01:39:34):
Go with Richardson.
Speaker 5 (01:39:35):
So I would have to think that that group, Joel,
I want to go with somebody that is going to
give them the opportunity.
Speaker 3 (01:39:47):
And we think about this all the time. Yeah, is
it important for them to win and win early and
win the most games of that? I mean, this is all,
you know, very easy stuff to understand. But you got
these first two out of the gate.
Speaker 5 (01:40:00):
Well, you can't be jacking around, So I mean, it's
not like you can slide into a decision.
Speaker 3 (01:40:06):
Well we'll wait and see.
Speaker 5 (01:40:07):
I mean, you've got to go with somebody that's going
to be able to get it done, and get it done,
take advantage of a Miami secondary which is decimated by
injury and defection, I mean, and take advantage of their
injury situation. You know, do something with Denver because you've
got two possibilities of the AFC maybe right alongside of you.
Speaker 3 (01:40:24):
As far as outsiders in the postseason, it to me is.
Speaker 5 (01:40:29):
Going to be far more involved than just going with
somebody with what you see the long term is going
to be because seriously, there are.
Speaker 3 (01:40:39):
Jobs on the line, and when I say must win
early in.
Speaker 16 (01:40:42):
The season, I think you can really diagram that with
this group and how they look out of the gate
in weeks one, in weeks two at home, yeah, and
I think I think.
Speaker 10 (01:40:53):
You know that that operational stuff, that knowing where to
go when the blitz is coming there. You look at
that Denver defense, yes, in week two, and you're gonna
have to be on it because they're gonna bring pressure,
you know. That's that's that's something that that that sticks
out to me is that you're you're gonna have to
be on top of that stuff right away as a quarterback.
(01:41:15):
So much of game planning now and so much of
the NFL is we're putting in stuff on a weekly
basis that attacks that defense is weak point. And if
they don't give us the coverage we see, are we
going what are we gonna go to? Like if we
if we call this play for a certain coverage, we
come up to the line, they're in something else. We've
(01:41:36):
built this this answer for you into it, and uh,
do you have do you have an answer to your question?
That stuff is is so important to the way the
game works now and the way the NFL works now.
It's it's one of the things that Shane Steichen has
traditionally been great at and why he got to this
position in the first place.
Speaker 3 (01:41:57):
That's that's what I want to know.
Speaker 10 (01:41:59):
I want to know is one guy ahead of the
other in that part of the game, Because to me,
I think when you put that stuff in, you're gonna
want to have it. You want more often than not,
you're gonna want your quarterback to know that that to
go to the right play.
Speaker 5 (01:42:13):
Yeah, yeah, I that even below, Like I thought about
that at the time, Joel. It was one thing when
his pinky finger was going east to west and not
north to south, But it was another thing, you know,
when you find out ultimately that that's that's clearly on him,
and then have all these other quarterbacks, young and old,
(01:42:34):
come out of the woodwork and all these other NFL
people and talk about how you know that is early
stages year one, week two of camp stuff you got
to learn, you know, that hits the mark and not
just you know with those in the program, but that
hits the mark with everybody right there.
Speaker 3 (01:42:52):
That's what I came away with last Thursday.
Speaker 10 (01:42:55):
Yeah, same here, same here. And I've been wondering it
and thinking about it.
Speaker 3 (01:43:00):
Kind of all week.
Speaker 10 (01:43:01):
You know, Shane Siking is not It's not like Brian Mason,
who essentially tells you he's told us exactly what's going
on the kicker battle and why Spencer Schrader is the
front runner and everything like that. Shane is keeping his
thoughts a little closer to the vest. But Yeah, that's
that's what I've been thinking about for a week now.
Speaker 5 (01:43:18):
Too, So Joey Rickson and the stars on the Andy
Moro out of Motive group plotline. What other positions in
your estimation are up for grabs?
Speaker 10 (01:43:27):
Linebacker for sure? You know, I asked lou Ana Rumo
about what they're going to do at that week side spot.
The plan was for it to be Jalen carlive But
you know, carlive Is has been hurt. You know, he's
been out of action. He's out of action in the spring,
he's been out of action now with an ankle injury.
I don't have a timetable and when he's back that
(01:43:50):
that's tough. That's tough for for them to to make
an evaluation and say he can start, especially in the
complex defense. You know, is it Joe BATCHI moving over?
Is it Cam mcgroan.
Speaker 3 (01:44:04):
You know, I would guess my.
Speaker 10 (01:44:07):
Guess, based on the way they've played so far, is
probably Bachi next to the Zire Franklin. But that that
s fought for sure is one that I don't think
they have necessarily an answer at, and I don't think
they have an answer at outside Corner yet, although that
one has more to do with medical stuff than it
does with anything that we've seen on the practice field.
Speaker 3 (01:44:27):
Yeah, no, offensive line.
Speaker 5 (01:44:29):
What's been your impression, because we knew going in that,
you know, right side interior, both center and right guard,
there's going to be a new flavor there. Certainly, how's
things gone there from what you have witnessed in training
camp so far at center and at right guard.
Speaker 10 (01:44:46):
Yeah, that's a good question that they get a good
test obviously from Buckner and from Grover's Stewart. I think
they've had some lints where, you know, those those two
defensive tackles have looked the way they're supposed to look,
and that that's probably not necessarily the best thing for
for the for those two guys on the interior. I
think there's probably gonna be some growing pains from Matt
gonzalv He's mostly been a tackle in his in his
(01:45:09):
time in college and last year in the pros. There'll
probably be some growing pains there. I think they'll probably
be some growing pains from Tanner Borderlini. But Bordelini seems
to have taken a step forward at center since Danny
Pinter's been hurt. I know Tony Soprano Junior feels like
he's taken a big step forward in terms of all
of the stuff a center has to do, identification and
(01:45:31):
making adjustments and calls. That was one of the things
that Bordelinis. Bordelini said the other day that he really
struggled with coming out of college, but the college game
has gotten so simple. But yeah, I think, uh, I
think that there there's probably gonna be some growing pains
with those spots, but they've usually been able to handle
that type of thing and and figure out a way
(01:45:51):
around it.
Speaker 5 (01:45:53):
How do you think the caliber that they have of
wide receiver is compared to year's a task? I mean, listen,
t Y Hilton was state of the art, and I
still don't think he gets enough credit for being just that.
And they certainly don't have t Y Hilton, But across
the board, the caliber of wide receiving threat they have.
Speaker 3 (01:46:15):
Do you like what they have?
Speaker 10 (01:46:16):
Yeah, I think that they have. Like you said, they
don't have necessarily the number one, the t Y type player,
but they have they can attack you in a lot
of different ways with their wide receiving corps, and they've
got a lot of different guys who've been very productive.
I just think, and then I think When you add
Tyler Warren to that, it really gives them a lot
(01:46:37):
of My question is do they have a quarterback take
advantage of all that? And are we going to be
able to properly judge the receivers based on the quarterback
play because we've we've learned over the last couple of
years that sometimes what might seem like a wide receiver
you know, underdeveloping or disappointing or whatever, it really just
(01:47:00):
comes down to is the quarterback getting in the ball
when he needs to. I'm thinking about Alec Pierce here,
but that's been That's been true of other players as well.
You know, Josh Down's numbers last year with Flacco were
very different.
Speaker 1 (01:47:13):
Than the ones he had with Richardson.
Speaker 10 (01:47:14):
So a lot of a lot of the stuff with
the receivers has just tried to end the quarterback get
it to him. I do think you have the ingredients
there for a good passing game that contest defenses in
a lot of different ways. It's just do you have
the do you have the guy you know distributing it
to take advantage of that?
Speaker 5 (01:47:35):
You look at the secondary Joel and they went out
and got guys that they feel are difference makers.
Speaker 3 (01:47:43):
And buying them.
Speaker 5 (01:47:43):
And I talked to to Mooney the other day out
of camp. I mean, he's got the total package at
that position. There's no doubt about that. Now got to
get some guys healthy, there's also no question. But how
good do you think that group and the secondary can be,
especially considering what lou Anarumo wants to do with them.
Speaker 10 (01:48:06):
Yeah, I think as long as Kenny Moore is healthy
and as long as they have somebody at the other
outside corner, I think that that Ana Roumo can can
really make that good.
Speaker 3 (01:48:17):
I cam Binam is.
Speaker 10 (01:48:19):
An interesting weapon. Like he's obviously going to play mostly
free safety, but you know he can play nickel. He
can line up in the nickel and cover receivers out
of the slot.
Speaker 3 (01:48:29):
He can move around.
Speaker 10 (01:48:32):
I think I think Hunter Wohler is going to be
an interesting piece maybe as the.
Speaker 1 (01:48:35):
Season goes along.
Speaker 10 (01:48:37):
He's he's kind of He's got a lot of flashy
played interceptions in big hits a training camp, but he's
also had some buffs. You'd expect that from a rookie.
But I think you know, as you get into the
game planning portion of the season, when Anna Rumo is
playing matchups and stuff like that. I think he can.
He can put those guys in different positions. I think
(01:48:58):
the real key with the secondary now that Justin Wally
is out for the season is the help of Jalen
Jones hamstring, because Jalen Jones, to me, is a guy
who's just He just fights and competes and finds a
way to be productive at that corner position. And I think,
I think in a room we can work with that
(01:49:18):
out of a number two.
Speaker 3 (01:49:19):
Corner Laott even though even though they liked Wally a
lot Laatuo lotu. In closing here, Joel, in year number two,
we had two double digit sackers around here for the Colts,
basically since Robert Mathis and Eric Walden kind of ran
into it. I hate to say that, but he kind
of ran into sacks when he was here and I
(01:49:41):
think had eleven twelve something like that. Then Justin Houston
had double digit sacks. Are we going to see and
not even so much that, but just a consistent threat,
a difference maker from lat to in year number two
coming off the edge, because clearly that has not been
the case around here since Robert Mathis.
Speaker 10 (01:50:03):
Yeah, I think he's got I think he's gonna take
a step forward.
Speaker 6 (01:50:06):
I do.
Speaker 10 (01:50:07):
I think he's I think he's taking a step forward
in practice. I think it's going to be interesting to
see all the different places he lines up uh And
I also think I also think it's gonna be interesting
to see where.
Speaker 3 (01:50:17):
Where Anna Rumo decides to line buttoner up.
Speaker 10 (01:50:20):
You know, that's that's the guy who we think of
as usually rushing from the interior. But I think is
gonna be pretty creative. And how he moved him around
to give him, you know, one on one chances against
the guard. I think those two guys together they've had
butoner from the interior for a while. But I think
I think if you just get a little more bend
off the edge from lats too and we it's it's
(01:50:42):
hard with camp. You know, he he looked pretty good
in camp last year that he only had four sacks.
But I think he's probably taken a step forward and
and he's got a he's got at least a chance
to be sort of the the forced player off the
edge that this this this pass rush needs to really
get back to where it was a couple years ago.
Speaker 5 (01:51:01):
Hi Joel hang a little bit coming out tomorrow, if
you're cool with that right there in that tent, and
hopefully I'm not going to be honey roasted again.
Speaker 3 (01:51:08):
So I got those bugs all over me, okay, I
was on Monday. That was great, So I did. Did
they spray a little bit of raid or something out there?
Do you think?
Speaker 10 (01:51:18):
My understanding is that they put the fogger out there
on the practice fields to try to get I was
alerted by a reader that I've been calling those things
sweat bees, but apparently they.
Speaker 3 (01:51:31):
Might be hoverflying their hoverflies. Yeah they are, and I
didn't know.
Speaker 5 (01:51:37):
Yeah, yeah, and they were especially active in that tent
where I was sitting with me and Charvarius Ward and
thenk Grover Stewart was in there too.
Speaker 3 (01:51:46):
CONTI came in and goes, oh.
Speaker 5 (01:51:47):
My god, I mean it kind of looked like Ambityville
horror in that tent, Like the entire interview, you know,
Moone's like swatting at these things entire time. So I
think Deck kind of prompted the whole fogging out there too,
because they were certainly bad. Hey, come by and hang
out and say hello tomorrow man, we'll see you up there.
Speaker 10 (01:52:08):
Okay, sounds good, we'll see out there.
Speaker 5 (01:52:10):
Yeah, Joel Eerics of the stars on the Anymore Automative
Group hotline.
Speaker 3 (01:52:15):
The action is brisk. They are trotting to have finish.
Speaker 5 (01:52:20):
Right now as the racing is officially underway. Here's a
little bit of the background before the break.
Speaker 3 (01:52:30):
There it is.
Speaker 5 (01:52:31):
And by the way, you guys love Sonora, the twelve
year old. I had all a little bit earlier, and
rightly so because she was outstanding. Thank you for the comments.
They are strong, quick break? Whatik come back? Harris? Is
your park race the day? I think Tony Rinz is
going to rejoin too, and so will Jessica. Don't go anywhere.
It's Naty three to five, one oh savage, fy the fan.
Speaker 1 (01:52:55):
The ride with JMV.
Speaker 3 (01:52:57):
Make up your mind, dude, is he gonna shore? Is
he gonnas?
Speaker 1 (01:53:03):
Ninety three to five and one oh seven five the fan?
Speaker 3 (01:53:08):
I believe this is a fact.
Speaker 5 (01:53:12):
Mis Pecoli and Jefferson's little brother right there, James, can
you look this up? The actor that played Jefferson's little
brother in Fast Times at rich Mott High. That's our
celebration today.
Speaker 3 (01:53:26):
He was an offensive coordinator, I want to say for
the Chicago franchise in the Arena League. I don't have
that info directly in front of me, but I do
believe he was the offensive coordinator. Was he not for
(01:53:51):
the Arena Football League team in Chicago back in the day.
Speaker 14 (01:53:58):
I am trying to find that information right now.
Speaker 3 (01:54:02):
What is his name? Have you found that? At least?
Speaker 14 (01:54:05):
So the character? Was it Jefferson's younger brother? He said, yes,
so it's Stanley Davis Junior.
Speaker 3 (01:54:11):
Is the name of the acting Okay, I'm almost certain
that Stanley Davis Junior, once upon a time was an
offensive coordinator in the Arena League for the Chicago franchise.
Almost certain. That's just a thought, but I believe that
(01:54:35):
to be the case. Right there.
Speaker 14 (01:54:37):
You you might be I'm seeing something on imd IMDb.
I'm not sure if it's the right guy, but it
is saying he was a wide receiver, linebacker coach for
the Chicago Rush of the area.
Speaker 5 (01:54:50):
That would be the you know, maybe I aired saying
he was the offensive coordinator, but yeah, it is. The
Chicago Rush was that team, and that is Jefferson's little brother.
And the coincidence, irony, however you want to view it,
is that his older brother, Charles Jefferson and fast times
(01:55:12):
at Ridgemott High.
Speaker 3 (01:55:13):
If you remember, was the badass linebacker.
Speaker 14 (01:55:17):
So this act, Yeah, this is looking like it's the
right guy. He was the wide receiver linebacker coach for
the Chicago Rush. Then he went on to be the
defensive coordinator for the Las Vegas Gladiators of the Area
Football League.
Speaker 3 (01:55:30):
And is he still with us at this date?
Speaker 14 (01:55:33):
As far as I can tell, according to his IMDb,
looks like he's still around.
Speaker 3 (01:55:37):
James, you may have to track him down. You want
to take that job up? Can you track him down?
I'll see what I can do. I think we need
to track him down. We've tracked down people like this
of the past. Remember we tracked down Mick from teen Wolf,
the character Mick, you know, the badass guy didn't play
(01:55:58):
a lit of basketball. Or Tony Donne who tracked him down.
He was in a play in London, England, of all places, and.
Speaker 5 (01:56:09):
He called in and we talked to him for a while,
and the first thing he said is, I know you
want to talk to me about the basketball games, but
I couldn't play basketball at all. I'd never played before.
And I thought, well, that was really evident in the
way that you played in film right there. But we
tracked him down and then this goes back to the
other station. We tracked down Spalding Smales from Caddyshack. They
(01:56:35):
were actually, I think at the time, celebrating twenty five years.
Maybe maybe it was thirty years, but I thought it
was twenty five years in a celebration of Caddyshack, and
they were hosting a get together with a lot of
the actors involved in that product, writers' producers, what have
you in Chicago, and it just so happened we tracked
(01:56:58):
down Smaalding, Small and Lacy Underall. Now Cindy Morgan has
since passed away. Cindy Morgan had been on the show
a couple of different times. Lacy Underall from Caddy Shack,
but we initially got her when we got her in
Caddy Shack. Her fictitious brother Spaulding I think bar yeah,
(01:57:20):
was that brother or cousin anyway, we had them both
on the show, but Spaulding was more unique because Cindy
Morgan went on and played She was in Tron with
Jeff Bridges and a couple of other films. But I
don't think that Spaulding did anything else. And I wanted
to say that he became a real estate agent in Massachusetts.
(01:57:46):
But we are famous for tracking down people on this
show just like that, So I think Jefferson's little brother
would be an outstanding track down James, if we can
get that done. Gritty writes this Hey, that young lady
was spectacular.
Speaker 3 (01:58:06):
She was great.
Speaker 5 (01:58:07):
Gives me hope for the future. Yeah, Sonora on the
show a little bit earlier was great. I am confident
and an outgoing dude, but that girl was unbelievable. JMV.
That interview was outstanding. Adam Schifter could take a few
lessons from Sonora on how to do a radio interview.
Speaker 3 (01:58:27):
Thank you.
Speaker 5 (01:58:28):
Brian writes that young Lady needs to host a nineties
country music segment on the JMV takeover.
Speaker 3 (01:58:34):
I think she does. Sonora Deaver a little bit earlier
was indeed absolutely outstanding if you missed any of that
podcast At one O seven five thefan dot com, I
know we're going to be joined by I think both
Jessica and Tony to close out the show.
Speaker 5 (01:58:51):
So let's take a break right here and get you set.

Speaker 3 (01:59:56):
It says here ex director, but she is long Can
I say long time?
Speaker 6 (02:00:00):
Yes, a long time directing executive.
Speaker 5 (02:00:01):
Director race, longtime assistant director of the Indiana Bread Development Program.
Speaker 3 (02:00:06):
There's so many words there, there's too much. How can
I keep up?
Speaker 6 (02:00:08):
There's too many words?
Speaker 3 (02:00:09):
Just knows a lot.
Speaker 6 (02:00:10):
I've been at the commission, knows a lot.
Speaker 3 (02:00:12):
And from Princeton, Indiana. How things going so far?
Speaker 5 (02:00:16):
Because I've been able to notice and the calls are awesome,
They're very exciting.
Speaker 3 (02:00:19):
How things going on here?
Speaker 6 (02:00:20):
Yes, it's going great. We've had some great racing, great weather.
We're getting ready to start up here with race four. Okay,
got five more races left?
Speaker 3 (02:00:30):
What does race four entail? Can you give us a breakdown?
Jamie's got to get a break force over there? Oh
you're you're pointing at it too, you guys both. Yeah,
give us a little rundown, a little analysis.
Speaker 6 (02:00:41):
So this is the Governor's Cup Championship race, and this
is two year old cult trotters. Okay, So has anybody
totally the difference between trotters and.
Speaker 3 (02:00:50):
I have zero idea.
Speaker 11 (02:00:52):
I did on the earlier segments.
Speaker 3 (02:00:53):
Yeah, kind of.
Speaker 6 (02:00:56):
Trotters is what they call the natural gates. Most trotters
don't wear.
Speaker 12 (02:01:00):
Hobbles, and they their legs go opposite, okay, so it's
a diagonal gate.
Speaker 6 (02:01:06):
It's a diagonal gate. So they're gonna move like this.
And I know you can't see mountain radio, but.
Speaker 3 (02:01:12):
But it looks pretty cool.
Speaker 6 (02:01:13):
Their right front leg is gonna go at the same
time that their left back leg moves, So they go
like this.
Speaker 12 (02:01:21):
Every horse trots, every dog trots. A trot is very natural,
natural for four four legged animal.
Speaker 3 (02:01:27):
I got you.
Speaker 11 (02:01:28):
So our other gate is a pace okay, and it's
a lateral gate.
Speaker 12 (02:01:31):
So the right two legs are going forward and backward
at the same time and the left two legs.
Speaker 3 (02:01:36):
So is that taught, that's taut it.
Speaker 11 (02:01:38):
Spread into them, yes, yes, so most of them do
it naturally.
Speaker 12 (02:01:42):
So the only reason they wear the hobbles around their
legs is because we're asking them to go so fast.
So we're asking them to go thirty miles an hour
on that gate, right, and they obviously get disqualified if
they break that gate.
Speaker 3 (02:01:53):
And that's where Kevin comes in and put the hammer down. Yes,
if so needs to. I thought you were looking at
it behind me someone he is behind there's the judge
behind me. So that's where he judges.
Speaker 6 (02:02:02):
Yeah, there's three judges.
Speaker 3 (02:02:03):
That the three judge fortresses right behind me. I realize
that right there, So they can see all that up here.
Speaker 6 (02:02:09):
Yes, and they have their cameras and vernoculars. That's why
there's three of them watching.
Speaker 3 (02:02:14):
Wow. So you guys both know Sonora yes, way too. Yes,
Sonora is super duper by the way, Yes she is. Yes, Yeah,
she's doing a little.
Speaker 11 (02:02:24):
Bit great in our industry and she she's a rising star.
Speaker 3 (02:02:28):
She has and you know you're talking about kind of
as you were, kind of just in the family. Runs
in the family. You got out of her for a
little bit. She's not gonna get out of it, goes.
Speaker 11 (02:02:38):
I liked it as a kid.
Speaker 3 (02:02:40):
Oh yeah, I mean she.
Speaker 5 (02:02:43):
I mean she was correcting Tony, which you know doesn't
take much to correct Tony rins.
Speaker 3 (02:02:47):
But I know he laughed. See I strategically do he
left right there. I didn't take much to do that,
but man, she is sharp for twelve years of age.
I did ask her. You know, this is a Wednesday
after new school schools back in session. Did you get
a pass? Did you guys get a pass? Often? Did
you get a pass often from school. Yeah.
Speaker 12 (02:03:08):
So I'm from Ohio, so our biggest fair is the
Delaware County Fair, and so my parents would give me
an option. I could miss the biggest day of racing
in the state of Ohio, or I could miss the
day my.
Speaker 11 (02:03:20):
Favorite horse was racing. I couldn't do both.
Speaker 12 (02:03:23):
So if my horse happened to be racing on the
same day as the little Brown jug and the biggest race, great,
But otherwise I had to pick.
Speaker 3 (02:03:33):
Well, that's why you chose to be a marketeer. Yeah,
and then you went back to what you as right
there training? What's your day entail in doing that too?
Speaker 12 (02:03:42):
Oh so with thirty five horses, you know, you start early.
So the track opens at six, so I like to
be there at five o'clock. The horses are fed breakfast
at four thirty in the morning, so it digests by six,
and then at six o'clock training starts. We've got four riders,
so four I'm the main trainer, and then you've got
(02:04:03):
three people that are doing the same job as me.
But I guess I tell them what to.
Speaker 3 (02:04:12):
Do or what to do?
Speaker 11 (02:04:13):
Tell them how fat?
Speaker 6 (02:04:15):
Yeah, so what you went done with that horsephock yeah.
Speaker 12 (02:04:17):
So the four of us start on the track at
six o'clock. So four from the same barn are on there,
and two days a week we trained them hard and
then the rest of the week it they just go
out and they jog, so we get thirty minutes, so
that builds their ender. It's the two training days builds
their heart and their lungs and their muscles.
Speaker 3 (02:04:37):
You dictate terms there at five am.
Speaker 13 (02:04:40):
Oh yeah, we come up with no.
Speaker 12 (02:04:41):
My plan is set the night before, so at six
am we know what we're doing and it starts.
Speaker 3 (02:04:47):
So you get there. You do get there at five
is that?
Speaker 6 (02:04:49):
Yeah?
Speaker 11 (02:04:49):
And then you want it because you want to beat
the heat.
Speaker 12 (02:04:52):
So we're asking them to work pretty hard and we
want to beat the heat. So we're off the track
by ten am.
Speaker 3 (02:04:57):
So Jessica, are you up at five am?
Speaker 6 (02:05:00):
Not usually by five am? A little bit later, So
a little bit later.
Speaker 3 (02:05:05):
Now, tell everybody what your job does entail.
Speaker 6 (02:05:08):
So working for the Commission, I oversee in my role,
I oversee our occupational licensing program, which we license at
the racetracks. You have to have a license to go
into the secured areas, and anybody that participates in racing
has to have a license. So we license over ten
thousand individuals a year, so a lot the licensing program.
(02:05:29):
I still oversee the breed development programs, so Thoroughbred quarter
horse and standard bread. It's the incentive programs for people
to breed in racehorses in Indiana. And then I also
oversee the equine medication and welfare program. So all of
our testing that goes on at the racetracks, so our
(02:05:49):
test barns, we have vetinarians, we employ vettechs, Urinary containment
specialists is what we call them.
Speaker 3 (02:05:59):
But the containment special So this is a good this
is great to bring up.
Speaker 12 (02:06:03):
So every horse that finishes first, second, or third gets
a blood test and a year in test.
Speaker 3 (02:06:08):
Yes.
Speaker 11 (02:06:09):
So yeah, so we have to test for you know,
pre race.
Speaker 3 (02:06:14):
So you want to make sure that NFL you have
a really good game. They do the same thing to you.
Speaker 6 (02:06:19):
Yeah, You've got to make sure that everybody's on a
level plane though, so especially.
Speaker 11 (02:06:23):
When gambling's involved, you know who's your part. So we
have to put on a fair product, you know, a
fair show.
Speaker 3 (02:06:28):
So how often does a test come back where the
results are affected by you may.
Speaker 6 (02:06:36):
Get out of all the races that rerun. So if
you think about the standardbred racing program, that's one hundred
and sixty days, thirteen to fourteen races a night, you
may get ten of.
Speaker 3 (02:06:48):
Years all okay.
Speaker 6 (02:06:50):
So it's a very and a lot of those positives
that come back are medications that are allowed, so they're
called therapeutic medications. So somebody just treated a horse too
close or it didn't get out of their system in time.
So it's a vana mean LASiS like tile it all
or iberprofit is what you you know, you get.
Speaker 5 (02:07:10):
Okay, and that's that is that kind of your gig.
Tell me you're a trendye you are you involved in
that part of it too, Jimmy.
Speaker 11 (02:07:15):
No, I'm not involved in that part.
Speaker 12 (02:07:16):
But as a trainer, you know, the trainers make those
decisions to give the drugs. So a vet gives them
and and it's just for ailments. But the problem, see
if their knees hurt, you know, like if our knees
are aching after a long day at the fair, we
go home and take to advil to ibuprofit.
Speaker 11 (02:07:35):
Well with a horse, you can't give them.
Speaker 12 (02:07:39):
You cannot give them that advil to prevent the knees
from hurting before the race, you have to give it after.
Speaker 3 (02:07:45):
How about icy hot? Can you put icy hot on ire?
Speaker 12 (02:07:48):
You know, we do use a lot of ice boots,
so ice boots, and we soaked their feet in cold water.
Speaker 3 (02:07:54):
Card is acceptable by me because my knees hurt a
little bit.
Speaker 11 (02:07:57):
Cold water increases circulation, as you well know. So we
do a lot of cold water therapy.
Speaker 3 (02:08:03):
WHOA, I like that.
Speaker 11 (02:08:05):
So we have cold water ropes.
Speaker 5 (02:08:06):
That you guys are like the inventors of cryro therapy
then whatever that's called right now?
Speaker 11 (02:08:10):
Really yeah, we've been cry going our horses for years.
Speaker 3 (02:08:14):
That is great.
Speaker 5 (02:08:14):
Now are there any substances allowed that you can apply
rub on wise?
Speaker 12 (02:08:20):
Yeah, but you have to read the ingredients, okay, just
to make sure and like within so many hours of
a horse racing you can't do those things. Yes, So
there's there's a withdrawal period for every drug that you
could possibly give.
Speaker 3 (02:08:32):
Okay, that makes a lot of sense.
Speaker 6 (02:08:33):
And then there's some things that just aren't allowed and
we don't see that very often.
Speaker 5 (02:08:37):
So does this just come with years of experience or
is there like a book do you have to like
go through to find out all this stuff that's a
lot of stuff.
Speaker 11 (02:08:46):
I think it's just experienced. You know, you live and learn.
Speaker 12 (02:08:48):
Once you're in it, you're in it and you know
it and you don't want to get in trouble, right,
so you have to know it and if there's something
you don't know. So the the problem we run into
is our rules are not universal throughout the UNIS States. Okay,
so the same rules in Indiana don't apply for the
same rules in Kentucky. The same rules in Indiana don't
apply to Ohio. So sometimes if you're going to race there,
(02:09:09):
you need to call the state and ask them what
is your withdrawal time?
Speaker 3 (02:09:13):
Wow? And then hope you talk to somebody that's knowledgeable. Yeah.
Speaker 11 (02:09:16):
So that's the only road trouble you run into.
Speaker 5 (02:09:20):
Now do they call you, guys for the same details
that you're describing calling another state.
Speaker 6 (02:09:26):
We try to encourage trainers to rely on veterinarians. So veterinarians,
you know, have the ability to research the medications and
they know the treatment plans, and they know you have
specific racehorse veterinarians that are doing these jobs.
Speaker 3 (02:09:41):
So that is a lot of stuff. Jamie and Jessica
with us.
Speaker 5 (02:09:45):
All right, one more time, what are we going to
see coming up here later on this evening, a big
crowd right here in the grand stands at the Indiana
State Fair.
Speaker 3 (02:09:53):
So what if people are coming in right now, what
are they going to see?
Speaker 12 (02:09:55):
These are all two and three year olds, which make
it very very interesting. So and Bread starts racing it too.
So basically the two year olds, you never know which
two year old you're going to get that day. They
are just like children. Sure you know, these horses are
a lot like your children. So we see a lot
of two and three year olds, trotters and pacers, and
(02:10:16):
all of these horses have earned the right to race
today and they have never gone for this amount of money.
They're going for twenty five thousand dollars a race, which
is huge.
Speaker 6 (02:10:25):
And they're also switching most of our county fair All
of our county fairs are half mile tracks, so now
these horses are racing on a mile track. So it's
kind of like who's going to upset the apple carts?
And it's because it's a different danser. It's like taking
a sprinter and all of a sudden, they're running a
mile distance, right, you know, So they're running the same distance,
but it's a different track.
Speaker 12 (02:10:44):
So supposedly a bigger track is supposed to make you faster,
you know where I as a runner, I think I
would find it more intimidating.
Speaker 11 (02:10:51):
I would like to shorter stretch, you know.
Speaker 5 (02:10:53):
Well, Hey you guys, thank you very much. It's great
talking with you today. This is awesome. It's a great event.
And thank you for all the knowledge and the education
on this.
Speaker 3 (02:11:02):
Guys.
Speaker 6 (02:11:02):
Yeah, somebody's acting up.
Speaker 3 (02:11:03):
We got there, we see, we.
Speaker 5 (02:11:05):
Got Yeah, it's amazed God to mail catch it out there. Yeah,
thank you guys, appreciate that. Thank thank you, failing James
Beck of the studio. Yeah, Tony Rims as well. All
Sonora was great, ladies.
Speaker 3 (02:11:20):
Thank you.
Speaker 5 (02:11:20):
Tomorrow, Kenny Moore and I we have a conversation for
that joint practice Packers and colts from Westfield. That's tomorrow
at three. Have a great night from the State Fair.
It's ninety three to five and one oh seven five
to fan
