Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to the
Thriving Christian Artist, the
podcast, where we hope youconnect with God to bust through
the roadblocks that have heldyou back for years, create the
work you love and really livethe life you know.
God created you to live as anartist in His kingdom.
I'm Matt Tama, your host.
Let's get started.
Well, hey there, my friend,Really glad that you're here
(00:23):
with me on the podcast today.
You know, the last nine weekshave been absolutely incredible.
We took a big cohort, severalhundred artists, through our
brand new foundations course andthe results have been
absolutely mind-blowing Our team.
Every time we get an email orread a Facebook message, we're
just like oh my gosh.
(00:43):
This is so incredible to seereal, lasting transformation
start happening in people'slives, no matter how old they
are, no matter if they're doingtheir art as a hobby or as a
form of just fun and spiritualprocessing, or whether they're
actually trying to build apart-time or full-time business.
We have seen God do someincredible, incredible things in
(01:04):
this Foundations course and itreally has spurred a lot of
thought.
You may have been following meon Facebook and seen a lot of
the posts that I've been makinglately, but I made a post today
that I wanted to share becauseI've just felt like it was so
important for all of us.
And it really is just a smallpiece of the type of things that
we talk about inside ofFoundations, because our
Foundations course is really allabout piece of the type of
things that we talk about insideof foundations, because our
(01:26):
foundations course is really allabout getting to the core of
what's going on in your heartand what's going on in your mind
so that we can allow the HolySpirit to heal the broken places
in our heart, clear the way, clear the roadblocks that are
standing in our way and allow usto really start walking in
confidence in everything thatGod's called us to.
And one of the things that Iknow has had a big, big effect
(01:51):
on the lives, especiallybelievers who are artists, is
this idea of what I call sinconsciousness versus sonship
consciousness.
You know you may have realizedat this point in your life that
whatever you focus on internallytends to grow in your
perception of it.
Right, it grows and expands andit it kind of sets the stage
(02:13):
for what's going in your lifeagain, first internally and then
externally.
You may have heard me say beforeyou know, the thoughts that we
dwell on, create the world thatwe dwell in, and that is is just
so, so important.
And it really begs the case ofwhy it's so vitally important
for every believer, artist ornot, to intentionally guard our
(02:34):
hearts and direct our hearts andmind in the way that is focused
not on our surroundings, not onthe bad things or crazy things
that are going on in our life, but focus on our new life in
Christ and walking in thefullness of the kingdom that
Jesus restored us to as sons anddaughters.
But here's the deal Manybelievers focus in their heart
(02:57):
on a sin consciousness, that is,they're thinking more about
what they're doing wrong, howthey've disappointed God, how
they didn't measure up all thiskind of stuff, and it's just.
I think it happens not becausethey're trying to do it
intentionally or whatever, butreally it's more of a lingering
effect.
I think of never being taughtwhat the kingdom of God is all
(03:20):
about, Never being taught whatit means to walk as a son, as a
daughter, to be fully restored, what it means to actually be
able to renew your mind, not asa one-time event at the altar,
but as an ongoing process forthe Lord.
And so I wrote some questions.
I think that will help youstart to just give a quick
(03:43):
summary in your mind, just aquick assessment, if you will,
of am I walking in sinconsciousness or am I walking in
sonship consciousness, consciousness of being a child
of God?
And you know, obviously thisisn't exhaustive, but I hope
this is going to prick your mindand help you start shifting the
focus onto who you are, as anew creation in Christ, versus
(04:05):
that old person that was doneaway with at the moment of
salvation.
You became a new creation.
The Bible says old things havepassed away and behold, all
things have become new.
And so just a few questionsaround, maybe, mindset.
Do you regularly beat yourselfup because of thoughts that you
have, believing that they're aresult of you being a bad person
(04:28):
?
When you make a mistake, is thefirst thing that you think
about oh gosh, I've disappointedGod or I've got to run from God
, rather than learning how togrow from that experience?
Do you see yourself primarily,as you know, as the old song
says, a sinner saved by graceversus a son or a daughter
empowered by God's grace?
(04:49):
Are your thoughts more consumedwith avoiding sin rather than
pursuing God's kingdom purposesand being all that he's called
you to be.
What about things aroundprovision?
You know resources andrelationships and opportunities
maybe finances.
Do you feel regularly notworthy of God's blessing in your
(05:09):
life?
Or maybe, when good thingshappen, are you always waiting
on the other shoe to drop orkind of receive them as evidence
of your father's goodness?
Or are you just thinking, ah,this is too good to be true, I
know that something bad is goingto happen.
Do you hesitate to ask God withhelp in material areas of your
life, your finances andresources, that you need the
(05:32):
fulfillment of a dream, believing that he's kind of too
busy with spiritual matters orthat those things are not as
important?
Do you believe that God mightbe withholding things in order
to teach you a lesson?
Again, something we know isjust not true.
What about areas of personalgrowth and maturity?
Are you viewing the spiritualdisciplines in your life as
(05:54):
these religious obligations thatyou got to do in order to stay
on God's good side, in order tohave God's favor, or do you see
them as opportunities to connectwith the Father and walk in the
freedom that's already yours inChrist?
And what about when challengescome up?
Is your first instinct to tryharder and make it happen, or is
(06:15):
it to lean more deeply intoyour identity and relationship
with God and ask Him for wisdom?
What about when you're seeingweakness in your life?
Do you see that weakness asevidence of your-unquote you
know unworthiness in your ownmind or are you seeing those
opportunities as opportunitiesfor God's strength to be
displayed and to be made perfectin your weakness, as his word
(06:38):
says and you know?
Do you find yourself being moremotivated by fear of failure or
by love of your father?
Now listen, I got a few morequestions here, but if you're
like most people, I hope thatyou're starting to say, wow,
some of these are really ringingmy bell.
I can see how the way that I'mperceiving life is not
(07:01):
necessarily based in the truthof God's word.
It's probably more based on myexperience.
What about things aboutrepentance?
You know, repentance is notsomething to be feared, nothing
to make you feel bad.
Repentance is actually a giftthat gives you the grace to
shift your perspective from yourperspective to God's
perspective in your life, right?
(07:22):
So when you sin, do you hidefrom God or are you quickly
running to him?
Do you see repentance as a wayto avoid punishment or as a way
to maintain intimate connectionwith the father After confessing
things to the Lord, do you feelreally heavy and guilty and
shameful, like you want to hide, like Adam and Eve did?
(07:43):
Or do you, you know, you'reable to really accept God's love
and his forgiveness and moveforward in strength?
Or do you believe you know, like a lot of people do again
well-meaning, that I got to makethis up to God, I got to do
penance, you know, after I'vesinned, versus being able to
walk in the full participationof the life that he's given you
in Christ?
What about you know the way, even the way you approach God?
(08:03):
Are you approaching God withhesitation and fear or with
confidence and joy?
When you're praying, do youspend more time apologizing to
him or expressing gratitude andchildlike trust and faith, just
to step out in incredible things?
Do you believe that God's in agood mood towards you based on
changes in your performance, orthat he just loves you outright,
(08:25):
no matter who you are, what youdo?
And do you believe that yourrelationship with God is based
primarily on duty or delight, delighting yourself in him?
And again, what about yourkingdom identity, you know?
Are you seeing yourself as aservant trying to please God, or
as his son and daughter, who isalready pleased God by just
(08:46):
being who he created you to beand working alongside of him to
see his kingdom coming, as willbe done in and through your life
.
Maybe you believe you're mostlya disappointment to God rather
than a delight to God.
When you're reading scripture,do you look primarily for rules
to follow or for revelation ofyour father's heart and his
(09:07):
heart toward you?
And maybe the last one do youthink you need to get special
permission to access God's powerand authority, or do you
recognize it as yours, as aninheritance and as a gift from
the Lord?
Listen, all these questions andso much more of the work that
we do inside the Foundationscourse is not an inventory for
(09:27):
you to be like.
Well, let me just figure outeverything I'm doing wrong and
this kind of inventory ofcondemnation?
No, no way.
God is not.
He never leads us tocondemnation.
He's always leading us toillumination.
Right, the Holy Spirit isalways there and I'm there with
you to help you recognize areasof your life that you can grow
(09:49):
into a more completeunderstanding of your identity
in Christ and who you are, notonly as His child, but who you
are as an artist in His kingdomand my friend, I hope, after
years maybe, of you listening tothis podcast, maybe reading my
books being a part of the thingsthat we do.
I hope you realize that myheart is to make sure that we're
(10:11):
providing resources andframeworks for you to be able to
walk in, to not just feelbetter but actually do better,
to be able to see and experiencelasting transformation in your
life as you learn how thekingdom of God operates and as
you learn to walk inside of theframework for kingdom living
(10:31):
that God lays out in his word.
Listen, my friend, I would beremiss to say that I know that
probably the vast, vast, vastmajority of you we have
thousands upon thousands ofpeople that listen to the
podcast.
Majority of you, we havethousands upon thousands of
people that listen to thepodcast.
Most of you have not takenadvantage of being a part of the
Foundations course.
When we did a cohort a coupleof months ago and this was a new
(10:55):
release course, you know we hadhundreds of people that came in
, saw incredible things happenin their life during this
process.
But I'll be honest with you myheart aches because I know that
there are thousands uponthousands of you that are
listening not only today, butmaybe in years to come you'll
hear this as well and you've notgone through this process
(11:16):
that's been proven to unlock thehearts of artists, to allow you
to be able to experience thegrace and the power of God in
your life, to be able to ditchyou know inadequacy and fear and
overwhelm and all that kind ofstuff, and really step into the
confidence that Jesus has foryou in your life as an artist in
(11:37):
his kingdom.
And so, listen, I'm going to dosomething that I rarely, rarely
do.
I put a link here in thispodcast episode just for my
podcast listeners.
