Speaker 1 (00:05):
Hello and welcome to the Vicki Kotris podcast.
I am your host, none other thanVicki Kotris.
I'm a retired corporate girly,two-time six-figure founder
who's obsessed with brandbuilding, sales generating and
digital marketing.
My mission with this podcast isto share the lessons I've
learned, to help you make moremagic and money with your own
marketing efforts, and to feelinspired to continue on your own

(00:28):
journey as a creator andentrepreneur.
Here I'll share real lifestrategies, marketing tips and
mindset shifts that have helpedme go from cubicle to creator.
This podcast is for businessowners, creatives or those just
looking for a little moresparkle in their day, so let's
kick off this week's episode.

Speaker 2 (00:49):
Hey guys, it's Vicki.
I am trying something new herewhen it comes to recording this
podcast, and so you might listenthat the background noise
sounds a little different thanwhat you are used to.
And I think the problem withproducing a podcast and
recording a podcast as anamateur meaning I don't have a

(01:13):
production staff or studio to doall my filming in is taking the
time and setting aside the timeto really record.
And I used to let that hold meback.
And I was actually talking to afriend recently who was like I
want to record a podcast.
I have so much to say.
I want to just talk about mymental health journey and I

(01:35):
think that it will help so manymore people.
And I said well, why don't you?
She said, well, I just need itto be done for me.
Like I don't want to learnanything new, I don't know how
to do anything related to apodcast, so I am just like I
have no idea what I'm doing andI said, well, you know, you can

(01:56):
record episodes on your phoneand then just upload them.
You know, like it's really assimple as that and it was kind
of like a light bulb clicked, where you simplify things so
much that it's like, oh yeah, well, I could do that.
So, anyway, I am practicingwhat I am preaching, which is

(02:16):
let's just record and let's getthe value of the message out
into the universe, of themessage out into the universe
shared with all of you, insteadof waiting for that perfect time
, that quiet time, recording inmy closet so that no background
noise or dog barking is heard byany of the listeners.

(02:37):
So bear with me, we're tryingthis out.
We're going to see how thisworks.
This works.
Today's topic is something thatfeels like it needs to be said.
You may have heard this in yourlife a time or two, but it

(02:57):
sucks to suck.
That is what we're talkingabout today.
It sucks to suck.
Okay, what does that mean?
What it means is that it sucksto start something new.
It sucks when you have awonderful life altering idea

(03:17):
that you know is so impactfuland that it has the power to
change so many lives, but youreleased it into the wild and
share it and there isn't a lineout your door Womp womp.
When you look at your missedcalls and your voicemail list,
and there ain't none there Wompwomp.

(03:39):
When you produce a podcast andyou get 10 downloads, when you
sit all day at a farmer's marketand you make $5.
When you travel an hour tofulfill a client event and

(03:59):
they're unhappy.
These are all things that havehappened to me in running a
business and I'm going to tellyou this it sucks to suck.
It sucks to be the new guy, itsucks to have to learn new
things and it is very hard andit will test you and it will

(04:22):
make you question if you madethe right decision, if you're
really doing what feels good orif you're just trying way too
hard.
And what I know to be true isthat you have to pretend that

(04:50):
the audience is out there and islistening to you, whether it is
podcasting, whether it isstarting a new business, whether
you are selling widgets, whether you are selling cookies
at a farmer's market sellingcookies at a farmer's market.

(05:12):
You have to envision thiswonderful next step of customers
lining up out the door to buywhatever you're selling.
And if you don't have that andsome refer to it as delusion I
will also call it delusion, because you have to believe that
something is there that no oneelse can see.
That is the only way that yousurvive.
That is the only way that youmanifest into reality an idea

(05:36):
that won't stop, that won't quit.
If you don't, it'll just diebecause you won't be able to
handle it just die because youwon't be able to handle it.
You won't be able to handlethat, even when the people show
up for you and you start makingsales or you start growing your
business, that they might notlike it.
There might be some other formof rejection that happens when

(05:58):
you launch your business andI've had it happen to me time
and time again.
It doesn't suck any less thebigger that you get.
I will tell you that the lossesthat I have when I was making
$15,000 a year still feel reallyshitty, as they did when we're

(06:23):
making multiple six figures ayear, when we're making multiple
six figures a year.
And I have to know and stayfocused on the fact that I am
doing my best and I willcontinue to get better and
better and better.
The more I continue to grow andthat's what keeps me focused

(06:46):
the more I continue to grow andthat's what keeps me focused.
And so I say that.
And I say that because you haveto perform for an audience that
may not be there today and whenthey do show up.
It's going to be differentkinds of problems, it's going to
be new kinds of challenges, butwhat I really wanted to get

(07:07):
across in this episode today isdon't let the fear of
embarrassment, of people notshowing up today, stop you from
building the most wonderfulventure business of your dreams,
because it has to exist for youfirst before it can exist for

(07:30):
anyone else, and so let thatinspire you today to find a
reason to just keep going or toget started.
So this is what I talk aboutwhen I talk to people about
building digital marketingstrategies and social media

(07:53):
content creation.
It is not about the followersthat you have today.
It is not about the fivecustomers who have bought your
product today.
It is not about just havingyour mom listen to an episode of
your podcast and waiting forother people to listen, which

(08:17):
has happened to me as well, hi,mom.
What this is about is puttingthat energy and forethought into
marketing practices to helplaunch your business or continue
to evangelize your businesswhen no one else is here yet.
So it's like that nervousnessthat you have in your stomach

(08:41):
before you've hosted a party.
Right, if you've ever hosted aparty, you have like your whole
bar set up.
You have, like, all of yourfood laid out.
You've been making snacks andfood all day.
You cleaned, you decorated, youjust turned on the music.
We're creating the ambiance.
Then the clock strikes 7 pm,just when we told everyone to

(09:04):
arrive, and no one's there andthe doorbell hasn't rung yet.
And that thought crosses yourmind, because it crosses all of
our minds Is anyone even goingto show up?
And you have this sheer paniclike, wow, I guess I'm going to
be eating a whole cheese sheetpizza by myself if nobody shows

(09:27):
up.
My gosh.
But then it starts to happen.
Then the first one comes, thenthe first one comes, and then
your group of besties show up,and then their partners all show
up and next thing we know we'removing and grooving and we're
having a great time, theambiance is good, the jokes are

(09:49):
flowing, the pictures are beingsnapped, the experiences are
being had and we are back, baby.
And that is the same feelingand the same trust that you have
to have in your business and inyour marketing effort.

(10:09):
So when I talk about socialmedia strategy, I talk to
business owners who are in allkinds of industries that you can
imagine beauty, fashion, realestate, online coaching, any
industry you can imagine whoprovides a service, and I always

(10:32):
ask what do you want to focuson?
No-transcript.

(10:58):
And I find it so ironic becausethe women that I talk to
primarily women, but could beany business owner are all
entrepreneurs, so they know whatthat feels like when you start
your business.
So why don't we give ourselvesthe same grace when we're trying
something new, when we'releveling up, when we're going

(11:18):
from a five-figure business to asix-figure business?
And that's what we really haveto realize is that something's
got to give, the systems havegot to change.
The delusion has to beincreased that much more,
because if we don't startgetting really delusional about

(11:39):
the customers that will be thereas we start to roll out these
strategies, then we're justgoing to stay exactly the same.
We're going to be in our samelane.
We're never going to experiencethat level up moment.
So I hope today was somethingthat you could take away, which

(12:00):
is you have to start somewherewhen it comes to making changes
with your sales and marketingstrategies.
If you have launched a businessor a new venture ever, you know
that there comes that jumpingoff point.
It feels scary, it feels likeyou have to show up in a new way
.
Lean into that, let that fuelyou, let that curiosity change

(12:23):
you, and that's really what Ilove experiencing and helping
business owners do.
So, if I can answer anyquestions, help talk about
strategies that will work, thattake advantage of where your
customers already are, and helpyou show up in a new and
beautiful way.
That is what I am here to do,so make it an amazing week.

(12:46):
Go out there, open yourself up,show up, and I'll catch you
next time.
