Weekly episode of the podcast.
So thank you again for tuningin.
Today I want to talk about atopic that has been plaguing me
for the past week, but hasplagued me really for my entire
(01:14):
life, and maybe something thatyou could relate to.
The elephant in the room that Iam talking about is that
feeling of having a milliondollar idea and inspiration just
dripping down from those partedclouds, but having that lack of
motivation or courage to justturn it around and move it into
(01:36):
reality.
And I have been there.
I am having one of thosemoments now.
So if you've experienced that,I'd love you to know that you
are not alone.
And in many times of my lifeand right now being one of them
I am turning into the queen ofprocrastination, the empress of
overthinking, the goddess ofI'll do it tomorrow, which is
(01:57):
something that just stops thewheel from turning in its
entirety and it is killing me.
And I'll tell you what's goingon in my life and my business
right now, if there is any kindof connection that you feel.
So I was talking with a friendtoday who has built a
seven-figure agency.
(02:19):
She is wildly talented.
She is a wonderful soundingboard for listening to the
challenges of building abusiness and incredible at
coaching people through it.
In fact, she does have acoaching program, so I will link
it in the episode details.
So if you want to talk to her,I think she gives a lot of
(02:40):
clarity to her team, who areeither freelancers or agency
owners that eventually want togrow into seven or eight or
eight figure businesses, and soI'm telling her all about my
issue, which is that I amgrowing my marketing agency from
having two businesses in thefood and Bev space one primarily
(03:02):
in catering, another brick andmortar to now kind of packaging
up all of the learnings that Ihave over the past seven years
and helping to grow other smallbusinesses that are typically
female founded.
I'm so excited about this.
I haven't been this excitedabout a new project in many
years, and so I'm having aconversation with her saying I'm
(03:26):
so excited about this I have.
I am working with my initialgroup of clients, but there is
something that's holding me back.
There is something that I justcan't describe, that is not
quite there, and I'm telling herall of the reasons that I think
that is like I need to gainclarity around my ideal client,
(03:49):
I want my messaging to beperfect, I want to create a
pitch that involves reallyemotional storytelling and I'm
able to connect with my idealclient and build, and yada, yada
, yada.
So basically, it's everythingthat we do when we want to build
(04:10):
brand awareness and when we'rebuilding our own business plan,
like we should know who ourtarget audience is.
We should have a sales plan, weshould have marketing
strategies, and I'm telling herall of these things that I'm
just as I'm saying it, I'mfeeling more overwhelmed, and so
she stops me and she says sofrom what I'm hearing is it's
(04:30):
not all of these things, becauseI'll tell you why.
Anyone that starts a company hasdifferent levels of evolution
and how their messaging changesand how their target audience
changes.
And, for example, she worked atGoogle and her name is Susie
Crawford.
So Susie is telling me thatwhen Google was first founded,
(04:53):
they didn't have this huge ideaof how their ad revenue would
completely change and becometheir number one, you know, form
of income for the business, adanalytics and Google Analytics
(05:15):
would be the most powerful toolin guiding marketing strategies
and conversations in the world.
But as they started to learnthat, they pivoted in how they
were selling their services.
And she's like so you just haveto do the same, like I might
never be at Google, but I haveto give myself grace that I
don't have the perfect messagingand that my ideal client may
(05:35):
change and evolve over the years, over the next month, over the
next couple weeks, and just doit anyway.
And so what?
Her advice was that you have totake action, because when you
are forced to take action youare thrown into the lion's den
(05:55):
and either you sink or swim.
So, for example, I'm tellingher and I am someone who has a
background in sales, so I havepitched products and services
before.
I have built sales plans.
I have managed a pipeline, millions of dollars in my
pipeline, so I know how to dothat and I know that's not
everyone's background.
And I'm still going to tell you, folks, I still freak out, I
(06:18):
still feel overwhelmed, I stillfeel imposter syndrome and I
have sold in my prior life.
And so, getting back to Susie'spoint, is she's saying you know,
when you put yourself in thesesituations where you are forced
to have conversations withpeople and tell them what it is
that you do and her example waswhether you're going to
(06:39):
networking events, whether youbook a one on one call with
someone, they, you will beforced in that moment to get
into your authentic businessmode, like this is who I am,
this is what I bring to thetable and this is how I can help
you.
And she said that don't focusso much on the refined message,
(07:02):
because that is only going toget better as you continue
having these conversations.
So it really gave me that kindof you know little kick in the
butt that I needed.
And I mean, here's the thingtoo you know, tomorrow is not
(07:23):
guaranteed, so you have to workwith what you got today, what we
know today.
So it's it's like that kind ofold, like cliche saying of you
know you miss 100% of the shotsthat you never take.
And although it's cliche andkind of lame, it is so true Like
(07:43):
I could use analysis paralysisin this time in my business and
say, well, I don't have awebsite and I don't have the
messaging down and I'm just likea little afraid of how to talk
to people about what it is thatI do and what I can bring to
them.
Where I could just do it, Icould just shut up, turn that
little volume button down in mymind and say I don't have all
(08:07):
the answers, but I know I'mgoing to figure them out and I
know I'm going to get better asI continue.
So I am, I'm grateful for thatconversation because I think it
gave me the perspective that Ineeded that the only way that
you can possibly learn and buildis through the act of doing and
(08:38):
calculated actions, becausewhat I know to be true from
building my other businesses isthere's a lot of ways that you
can continue spinning yourwheels Like you can spend 12
hours a day on YouTube justlearning and absorbing
information, but that's notgoing to get you anywhere.
There are instances that I havetaken information that I've
learned on Google and said I'mgoing to go ahead and I'm just
going to run with it and trysomething new, and I have spent
(08:59):
a lot of time making mistakesand spending time on things and
conversations with people thatnever ended up getting anywhere.
But I also do think that thereare nuggets of inspiration that
just naturally happen duringthose conversations or during
those actions.
So I plan to do the same thingwith this new stage and this new
(09:25):
business, and that's what Ithink is really funny is that
there are always new learningsthat happen from each stage and
each business that I create.
But the core and the foundationand the fundamentals of what
make people successful and whatmake businesses successful, it's
all the same.
(09:46):
It's taking action.
It's taking an idea, letting itevolve after the action
continues and creates somemomentum, and then knowing in
that moment, when those changescome, how you will need to
evolve the systems that you willneed to change and grow from
someone who makes you know fourfigures or three figures from a
(10:10):
side hustle into someone who hascreated a six-figure,
seven-figure venture.
So let that be your inspirationfor the week, because know that
I am there, I am with you, butI am rooting you on.
If you have that great idea, ifthere is something in your life
that you need to take action on, go get it.
Know that the quicker that youfail, the quicker you will get
(10:32):
to your end result, which isbeing better, creating a better
experience for yourself and yourcustomers, and just knowing
that you're capable of buildingthe life that you want.
So go get them.
