(00:00):
Hi everyone, Carl here as this episode publishes on the 19th of
June 2024 and as Minecraft celebrates its 15th anniversary
here at the Withering Effect, weare marking our fifth
anniversary. As our first episode was
published on June 19th, 2019. We've experienced many changes
along the way, but our gratitudeto each and everyone of you for

(00:22):
listening and supporting has remained constant.
To celebrate, we're excited to share two exclusive Minecraft
shirts designed by Duds and myself, which you can download
and merge with your own player skin at the witheringeffect.com.
Skins. Thank you for being part of our
community. And now here's Episode 179.

(01:00):
Hey everyone, welcome to the Withering effect episode 179.
Today's date is May 18th, 2024 and I am duds or duds versus
known to the rest of the interwebs.
And with me we have a special Coguest high hopes.
Hello. How's it going, man?
Oh it's fantastic. This is years in the making I

(01:20):
have. I have waited for this day.
It's it's come and I don't want to get your hopes up too high.
We're just going to be a couple people hanging out talking
Minecraft. Sounds great to me.
How you been? What have you been up to lately?
I've been good as far as playingin Minecraft.
The the wife and I play on the same server I help run as well.

(01:45):
And so we got this nice like like two-story traditional style
house and then in the back of itthere's a little pond.
So we've been setting up pens tokind of be like a zoo thing.
Nice. And so we've got some pandas and
some parrots back there. I think turtles was the last
thing we worked on that just eventually have just a variety
of different Minecraft mobs in like their own custom Biome.

(02:09):
I've loved that idea, like I've always wanted to just do a
Minecraft zoo. Customize special pins for every
single mob in the game. Yes.
Seems like such a fun idea. Yeah, I see.
Like there's, there's the mods where it's like designed to do
that and they build like an actual zoo.
I'm like, I don't, I don't know if I want to play a mod.
That's that's the whole point. Yeah.

(02:32):
But I want to have my collection.
Exactly, that's how a lot of Minecraft players play is just
collect all the things. Yes, like we're talking about
pre show about like trading cardgames and that's me, you know,
and Skyrim. I'm always over carry weight.
Any game that's a carry weight Ihate because I got to grab
everything. I don't care if I don't use it.

(02:53):
I need to have it tucked away because they ever do need it.
I mean, that's the one thing I didn't like about Legend of
Zelda Breath of the Wild was thedurability on the weapons.
It's like, I can't use this weapon.
I might need it later. Yup, Yup, dungeons.
Oh, I was so terrible about. It's like, I don't want to let
this go. I know I'm way overpowered for

(03:14):
this weapon but it's cool so I want to have it.
Yeah, I've been meaning to pick dungeons back up and play it.
I love dungeons. Yes, I know recently you know
some people say that Minecraft MO Yang needs to stay to
Minecraft. I want to see them keep
iterating like dungeons. I'd love to see everyone talks
about what's Minecraft 2 going to.
No, no keep updating Minecraft. Minecraft has a great system but

(03:37):
I would love to see a dungeons too.
Yes. A whole new storyline, whole new
set of updates. I will pay full price given the
season pass. I don't care, I don't care.
And the best thing is like with the 15 year birthday celebration
on Minecraft, dungeons is like half off, yes.
So if you've not played dungeons, you can get it real
cheap right now. Exactly.

(03:58):
I think Legends it was, it was expectation, but I'm glad that
they're still experimenting. I don't want that to stop.
Yeah, the first trailer I saw from Legends, I went, that's not
the game I'm gonna play. I was just saying I also have a
thing about cell shading like breath of the wild kind of
pushed that cell shading animation for me like it's it's

(04:21):
OK, but legends that cell shading was hard and it it very
much hurt my eyes. I was like, Nah.
Yeah, I can get that. For me it was people compared it
to like Age of Empires and gamesof that nature and that got me
excited. And it's just a little too
different. I think if they did it like

(04:41):
Dungeons is very much a dungeon crawler.
Yeah, it's just set in the Minecraft theme that that's what
it is. I think if they do something
like that, that would be a lot better.
Keep to keep the genre until youfound that new secret sauce, the
next Minecraft hype thing, and just put it in a Minecraft.
World. Yeah.

(05:05):
You know what? We're like 4 1/2 minutes in and
I forgot to have you, like, talkabout yourself.
I've known you for years now, but I realize our audience might
not go ahead, talk a little bit.So what do you?
What do you do? My name is High Hopes.
Obviously, the way Duds and the team and I got to know each
other is they were the first to give me the opportunity to be a

(05:26):
mod, and that was my springboard.
I help Rebel JC, I help a few other creators, and through that
I ended up starting my own podcast.
Largely I'm influenced by Duds and you know, Rebel all their
great guests that they've had onhere.
Which has a great name by the way.
Yes, the beacon. Mm Hmm.
I wanted, I wanted something iconic.

(05:48):
I knew my goal was to to spread light on things that weren't
being discussed. They was talking about find your
niche. And so of course we know of the
other show with the voice. And so I was like, well,
nobody's talking Bedrock. There has been an alternative
show that showed up and disappeared for a period, but
Bedrock wasn't being discussed. So that's where I started was I,

(06:08):
I started off on Bedrock Legacy Edition.
So that's what I was doing, and it's evolved with time to be
more of a interview show. The goal is to bring up people
in the community, whether that'sother podcasters, whether that's
streamers, content makers, or even people from a different
perspective who work in the safety field, which is my latest

(06:30):
job. I work for Gamer Safer and I
review servers to verify that they have the they meet the mug
Minecraft usage guidelines and they meet the find mcserver.com
policies and rules so that way parents and players can find
safe servers to play in. And it's unlike your typical
search site or listing site where it's not you know who paid

(06:52):
the most to get top. Everything is designed to find
what you want. Smaller big Java cross play
bedrock mini games or not, whatever it is you're looking
for. That's a bit of what I do IRL.
And then content wise, the beacon I stream when I have
time. You even helped the Wizarding
effects server on Gamer Safer which was awesome.

(07:15):
Nothing, nothing extra is it wasnice because you guys were very
already compliant. You know, the biggest, the
biggest thing that holds us backwith reviews is just owners not
responding to e-mail or wanting to spend more time arguing or
pointing fingers. Yeah, no, we do our best to,
we're, we're very thorough. We look at the whole community,

(07:36):
not just the server. But things can always change
after it's been reviewed. And that's why we do spot
checks. That's why we encourage the
community. If you see a server that is in
violation or that is doing something they shouldn't be
doing, let us know and we'll look into it.
The worst time to do that is in the middle of your own review.
Yeah. Just let let's get you finished,

(07:58):
wrapped up, and then by all means send me an e-mail and be
like, hey, thank you for your help or don't thank me, I don't
care. But once you're done, then tell
me, hey, these servers are doingthese things.
You had an issue with me and every servers you need, what's a
violation in one scenario might not be in another.
Yeah, yeah. So for example, a common thing
we see is crates. If you don't know what a crate

(08:19):
is, it's a common thing on servers where you can often
times buy with real money a key and then you have a chance of
getting something. So you know, we make sure
there's, there's odds on there. We make sure that there's no
chance of getting nothing, yadda, yadda, yadda.
And so if there's money in thereand there's a leaderboard
tracking who's got the most money, now you have a

(08:40):
competitive advantage because ifI have more money than you in
real life, I can climb that leaderboard and then somebody
else might not have the leaderboard.
And so they're like, well, they have money in their crate.
Yes, but there's context, there's extra detail.
Yeah. With a server like yours, it was
very easy to to help get throughbecause we didn't need to go

(09:00):
back and forth over 50 messages.Yeah, all Carl and I and the
team at The Weathering Effect wanted to do was just give
people a safe place to play Minecraft.
That was it. So let this be your cue.
I know it's not ad time guys, but go over to patreon.com/the
Weathering Effect and sign up. My friends have been a long time

(09:21):
listener and I'm grateful for mybenefits.
There is something of a five year anniversary coming up and
Carl and I are working on fun stuff for that.
We need more duds. We need more.
We need exclusives. There will be more live
recordings, we already do the the live show and the discord,

(09:41):
but we plan on permanentizing the studio on the server so
people could physically be in the game while we record.
Oh, that's exciting, guys. I can't say that for every show,
but we're trying to do that more.
That's awesome. Get a lot more engagement and
interaction there. Fantastic.

(10:03):
It depends on how distracting the audience is gonna be if
they're just running around jumping.
Might have to just put yourselves in the game and then
minimize the game. You don't actually see them in
all the shenanigans, but then you're gonna open it up.
It's like, oh this could never be put on YouTube.
Yeah, I. Know Withers, Arrington Withers,

(10:23):
he said, spawning blazes and wardens.
Yeah, Arrington's soliciting live.
The actual studio is protected, so the only people who can
create things are me and Carl. Sorry guys, we tried.
So you can't even break blocks. No trolley.
Trolley for y'all. No, but let's hop into the news.

(10:47):
Like we said earlier, Minecraft is turning 15 years old.
So that's that's crazy. And the withering effect is
turning five years. It's even crazier.
But yet Mojang has decided to give out gifts like every day
for the the rest of the month. Some of the early things we've

(11:07):
seen now are three different capes.
You have the birthday Cape, which is a green creeper Cape.
You have the TikTok Cape, which I think is a gorgeous Cape by
the way. It's a black creeper with some
red and blue the the TikTok colors.
And then you have the Twitch love Cape is what I'm calling
it, 'cause it's got the heart onit.
It's the only one that doesn't have.

(11:28):
Creeper face. So you've already expressed
you're a big fan of the the TikTok one.
I've heard that a lot. Personally, I am quite partial
to the Twitch Cape because for me it serves a double purpose.
I can't wait to go onto a serverand have people who don't
realize this happened think thatthat's part of my official
uniform. His Gamer's safer's colors are
purple and white as well. There you go.

(11:49):
So it's just like chef's kiss. So perfect.
Yeah, I I like the TikTok one, but that's the one I probably
won't end up with 'cause I don'thave a TikTok and I'm not
signing up for TikTok to get a Cape.
I had tried the other day, somebody had sent me a league
and I I couldn't make it work. And I don't know, maybe I did
get it and I just didn't realize.
But I couldn't figure out. I don't, I don't care enough.

(12:10):
It's not my favorite Cape. I'm good.
Yeah. And I was actually just doing
that before we started was had astream playing.
I'm like oh Yep, got my code, let's go.
Yeah, that was what happened. I was watching, I forget who it
was on Twitch, but I was watching somebody.
And then the little male icon lit up and said, oh, you've got
a Cape. And I go, what the heck is this?

(12:31):
And then I saw on Minecraft's website that they were giving
away a trench Cape. So I was like, oh, I didn't even
know this was a thing till I gotit.
And of course I did all the steps to activate it and it
doesn't show up in my Cape inventory.
And I'm like, oh, it's, it's for, it's just for Bedrock
because it was in my Bedrock inventory.
No, there's, it's supposed to befor Java too, I think.

(12:54):
I think that it wasn't intended for Java.
It was going to be a Bedrock only kind of thing.
And someone went, guys, yeah, Java is still a thing.
You have to make stuff for Java too.
My big theory about this is the the 15 year birthday Cape, the
green creeper one. I also went ahead and did the
code and everything for that onethat showed up immediately.

(13:15):
Yeah, I would love to talk to somebody.
We we've heard from the devs, a few of them, especially King Bay
Dogs former guest. This show have been really
awesome about giving their time and coming on and talking to
people. I would love to see somebody
more from like management back end, come on a show.
Yes. Whether it's a podcast, a
YouTube show, I don't care. I just want to hear from that

(13:36):
side. Maybe we can get better
understanding of how these decisions get made, where things
are coming from. Yeah, because this community as
a whole is so quick to jump on either Java hate, oh, they
don't, they forgot about Java, or oh, they don't like Bedrock,
Bedrock. It's nothing.
I'm biased. I love Minecraft, so it's always
hard for me to know how much of this is just some corporate, you

(14:00):
know, person who doesn't really have a love for the game.
How much of this is just, we're missing context?
I want to know. I definitely think the big
context is bedrock is the majority of players that they
are. I mean, they're like, I don't
even know the numbers, but they have to be at least 70% of
players are bedrock players. So you definitely want to cater
to your majority, which makes 100% sense.

(14:23):
And then I'm absolutely positivethat it's easier to do add-ons
and capes and stuff like that with the coding for Bedrock.
I'm sure of a Java, it's all, it's a huge pain in the butt,
but I've come to like understandlike that's the way Java players
are going to get treated. That being said, I'm not going
to move to bedrock. I've, I really do prefer the

(14:46):
Java thing and I've played the bedrock version.
So anyways, well, you haven't played it.
You don't. I I started on bedrock and then
I moved to Java and I still prefer Java.
Same here, I started on bedrock. There are aspects I prefer there
are, but overall I am a Java player.
Yeah, there are things Bedrock does better than Java 100%.

(15:06):
But then there are things that Idon't even want to say do better
on Java, They just feel more comfortable on Java.
Yes, For me it's it's little things like being able to put
torches or my tools in the offhand.
That's probably the number one thing I use.
Yeah, I hear the offhand argument a lot.
Like that's the only thing Java has.
I barely use that offhand. Put a shield or a totem in that

(15:30):
offhand and I'll forget about it.
I won't ever use the offhand therest of the time.
See, I can't use Shields becauseI've I've spent so long and I'll
still play bedrock from time to time, especially if like the
wife and I are doing some creative testing or whatever.
So I'll put the shield in my offhand and I try to use it, but
I Crouch, Yeah. And then I get blown up because
in Java you right Click to use your shield and Bedrock,

(15:54):
especially on a controller, you would Crouch to do that.
And so my brain hasn't remap skills.
I will teach you the secret. What you do is you get WASD
program and then wire up your controller to act like a
keyboard and you just keep buying everything like bedrock
settings. But I play keyboard and mouse

(16:18):
that is my preferred. I grew up PC gaming.
My wife however, she's like you.She loves the controller,
especially for her arthritis. So she still uses a controller
even if she comes up and uses the PC because she loves the
Java shaders. She's the controller player.
I'm a. Oh yeah, there we go.
If I if I can do a keyboard and mouse, I that, yes, that's the

(16:40):
mobile people. That's that's amazing.
You those guys are they're, they're crazy.
Yep, hats off to y'all. Nope, No way.
A couple years ago I was at a place getting my oil changed and
I saw a kid playing Minecraft onthe cell phone and they were
doing things I had no clue how they were moving around and

(17:01):
cutting up blocks. And so I was like, jeez.
Yep, I don't know how you do it,but props.
Think that version's on sale toofor like $1.99 now.
Yeah, 70% off. Wow I almost want to buy like
three more alt counts just just for whatever reason.
Like I don't even need three butit's so cheap.

(17:21):
Yeah, let's get into some more changes because there have been
snapshots that have been put outlately.
Again, we're not going to cover every little thing that happens
in the snapshots. When we moved from a weekly show
to a monthly show, we kind of knew that was going to be the
problem. So we're all going to kind of
hit some of the big things. And most recently there was a
huge change to which drops to kind of make up for the fact

(17:44):
that raid farms were going out the window.
Like no, we don't do those anymore, which I'm fine with.
If there was anything that was OP in Minecraft, it was raid
farms. I'm I'm good with the raid farms
going and this witch change was huge.
That being said, I already saw Have you seen Tango tech
recently? Not the most recent, I don't

(18:05):
think. So before the witch farm thing
was announced with the Redstone because witches are now dropping
Redstone are guaranteed every time they die.
I think he created a hero of thevillage farm and using 200
clerics because clerics will throw Redstone and lapis at you.
For hero of the village, he can move himself between portals to

(18:28):
reset the timer. So he's getting like 8000 drops
an hour of Redstone and lapis. That is awesome.
So he already he had come up with a way to get around the
raid farms. Nice, see that that's a detail
right there that I always forgetabout because when I experienced
raids for the first time, it wason Bedrock.
And here are the village. You don't get tossed to anything

(18:49):
unless something's changed. Wow.
So I would always forget that. That's an aspect in Java that
they will toss you stuff. We just got the discounted
pricing. Yeah, no, they tossed stuff.
The next thing, no mobs in the trial chambers.
I think this was intended from the get go and it was just
bugged a little bit. So it's going to be like the
Deep dark where no mobs are attacking you except for the

(19:10):
Warden. No mobs in trial chambers except
for the ones that spawn in the spawners.
Have you experienced those much?Nope.
The trial chambers are not a structure.
I'm like, yeah, let's go visit. And it's kind of like the deep
dark. I have no urge to visit the deep
Dark. Swiss sneak.
I think's OK, if I'm going to goto the deep dark, I think what

(19:31):
I'll end up doing is going thereto try to pacify it and lighting
the area up and maybe like make a base out of it.
But as a game mechanic, I've notliked the new the new pathing
that they come across where we're going to put a structure
somewhere so a player has to go explore to get stuff.

(19:52):
I've never really been a fan of that mechanic.
I get like, you have to do that. You have to do exploring to
spread your resources around andstuff like that.
But it became like, oh, there's this great new enchantment in
the game. We're going to put it in a
structure of villagers can't do that anymore, or they can't do
that enchantment anymore. I'm curious with the trial
chamber is it biggie enough to have like a mob freebase?

(20:15):
To me, that's the biggest reasonI would ever want to go build in
these locations is if I can control like remove all the the
sensor things that call the warden or the spawners in the
trial chamber. Could I have a mob free base?
Like that's the number one thingI hear people wanting.
Oh, let's make a beacon give youa buff for mob, you know, a

(20:35):
radius mob's own spawn. So I wonder if that would be an
alternative to the Mycelium Island.
I definitely think so. It all depends on how you build.
We had that that tenure of just mega basses and I think those
are those are way too big to do something like that.
But I used to be a huge driver of I want a beacon effect for

(20:56):
mobs to get rid of them or even draw them to it.
But with the lighting changes, I'm not seeing mobs as much of a
problem anymore. I really do think moving the
light from 7 to 0 was really good.
Yes, it's a lot more intuitive and makes it easier.
You don't need to do the torch grid.

(21:19):
Hello everyone, my name is Doctor Disappointment and I'm
here to ask why you haven't joined the Withering Effect
Discord. It's the perfect place to meet
and hang out with fellow Minecraft players, meet the
lovely people who worked hard tobring you this show, share your
ideas for future podcast topic, and share your Minecraft builds
with the community. Why not join today?
You can find a link in the show notes.

(21:45):
With the Trout chambers also came changes to the maze.
There are a lot of people, I don't want to say crying 'cause
that's a thing, but they did notlike the changes to the maze.
The maze didn't seem like a weapon I would particularly
lose. I like the fact that there was a
new weapon in the game. We, we really do need new
interesting weapons. But when I'm under attack, I,
I'm a scaredy cat. So when I get mobbed, having

(22:07):
that sweeping edge is my favorite enchantment, so I can
hit more than one mob at a time. And most of the times I won't
let them get that close. I use a bow.
Being able to chain hits with a Mace in a survival Minecraft is
really not up my alley. So I can see PV peers really

(22:28):
liking this thing. But yeah.
Like you, I'm not much of A PV peer.
I definitely don't do much mini games.
I'm curious how often like is jumping from a high up distance
really aspect of mini game map or is this going to become
something? I think so because the critical
hit is huge and PvP ING. Yes, and I know there's

(22:49):
enchantments where you can like when you perform a critical hit
with the Mace, it'll lift you into the air so you can perform
another critical hit, which willlift you back into the air,
which you can perform another critical hit.
So the ability to chain hits with the Mace is a real good
skill to reward mechanic. Yes, I'm curious to see if I
think that could be interesting because it makes combat more

(23:12):
from a spectator perspective more interesting.
I'd be more inclined to watch two people Duke it out if one of
them is like flying up like Yodaswinging that giant Mesa around,
bouncing all over the place. And I'd like to see something
like that, like with the Tridentand some, the combat update in
general is just, you know, even if it's not necessarily like
great in Pve, make it more interesting.

(23:35):
Because like when I watch peoplePvP, for the most part, it's
like sword swings back and forthreal quick, you know, maybe a
little bouncing around and then it's over.
I'm like. Yeah, exactly.
Like MCC is such a big thing andobviously there are more mini
games than PvP or any aspect of that, but I never got into that
side of Minecraft. And maybe with more interesting,

(24:00):
like I've tried watching MCCA couple times and there are some
events I actually really like. But if we could adapt the PvP
game and Minecraft a bit more, maybe visually it'll be more
interesting. Yes, that's what I'd like to
see. Like if you can't get me into it
as a competitor, it's just if I'm if I'm a compete, I'd rather
do like a first person shooter, but maybe you can make it where

(24:22):
it's a spectator of sport for me.
And I think MCC, you know, things like that, that that's
going in the right direction. It's just not there for me now
that's bad. It's just it's not my cup of
tea. Yeah, I mean, that's the same
way I I am. I really like, was it Dodge Bolt
at the end? I think that's a great finisher

(24:42):
for the whole tournament event. They really found a game that's
easy to understand, visually interesting and it's it's a big,
big event at the end and it's a home run for sure.
Yeah. Arrington's talking trash in the
chat. I see how it is.
I'm curious if my opinion will change down the road because

(25:03):
I'll throw out the disclaimer that I used to laugh at my son
for watching Let's Play. I'd be like, why are you
watching somebody play a video game?
That's so dumb. Just go play the game yourself.
And now most of the friends I have are content creators.
So I either watch some Let's Play.
I stream playing a video game. Yeah.
So, I mean, I'm not saying I'd never get into it.

(25:25):
I think it might be different, but overall I'm like me, but I
would love to see them with the Mace, bring that into the Pve
world as well. I get some aspects like they're
exploring, you know, they're reaching a part of the greater
audience and not everything is going to always overlap great.
But I would love to see a combatupdate that introduces some more

(25:48):
unique weapons and brings some balance to the force.
Yeah, you know, maybe like put the Force on Minecraft.
That would be nice. I would love to see a magic
overhaul. I would too, I think that's what
you should focus on in PvP is the magic aspect.
Not just that, but I like, I'd like to see it in Pve as well.
Like make potions more worth my time.

(26:09):
I use them because my wife likesthat aspect.
She likes making the potions. So I'm like OK if you're going
to make them I will use right? But for me if it's on my own,
unless I'm going like ocean monument, I'm not going to use
water wreath. Yep.
Unless I'm going to the nether. I don't use noob juice or Fire
Protection. For those who aren't familiar
with the term slow falling, I I don't ever bother with.
I like the speed potion but I'm not going to take the time to

(26:31):
keep making them so it's worth my time to have.
But if I could like like in bedrock you can put it in a
cauldron and then let me take like a staff and infuse X amount
of charges by absorbing the cauldron potion into my staff or
something like that. Like that would be awesome.
Let me throw fireballs or yeah, jump really crazy high and then

(26:53):
switch to the Mace and come down.
Like give me some combos, give me some magical aspects I can I
can really play with. I mean right there you did just
point out putting potions in a cauldron.
Java can't even do that yet. Yeah, let's, let's get some
parity guys. I know you got a whole team
working on it. Let's speed it up please.
I was thinking about that the other day, the parody, because

(27:14):
I've definitely wanted a parody between both sides.
So no one can say, well, this one's better than this one and
all that kind of stuff. But I was like, man, it is kind
of cool that if you don't like acertain version of Minecraft,
you go play another one. That's what mods are for.
And data pack. There is that too.
The bass game, another show I'd listened to for quite a while

(27:36):
before they pod faded, really stressed that they both hosts
really liked they were they're bedrock creators and they really
like that there are those differences and I I get that
perspective of if I don't like one thing I can go do the other.
Then let's make it toggles. OK, if you love the fact that
there's only set things you can put in your off hand, make it a
toggle make it a server toggle, make it customizable.

(27:59):
That's the beauty of Minecraft. I think at its core is the
ability to how you want. If some aspects want to be
retained, great, let's do that. You know, if we can find a way
to put a button for quasi connectivity, let's do it.
Let's have a button. Yes, quasi connectivity works.
No, it doesn't. I'm sure that one's probably
ridiculous, like hopes you don'tknow what you're talking about.

(28:19):
You're right. I can do a hello world in Java,
end of story. No further, so no argument
there. I have no idea the complexity,
but more of these things I'd love to.
Don't take it away from one community or the other.
Give the option. Foreshadowing.
Just going to throw that out there.
Yeah. So changes to the maze.
We also got three new music discs.

(28:40):
Two of them were Lena Raye. She came back.
Lena Raye, Yes. And then it's really just one
song. And then she has a music box
version of them and the other, Ican't believe I didn't write it
down. It was Alex something.
So I went ahead and listened to all three and then I went back
and then I listened to all threein the same order again.

(29:00):
They all three sound distinctively alike each other.
It's not like they're all part of one song.
It's just they definitely fit a theme.
I didn't like any of them. No, per SE.
They're not bad. They again, they just weren't my
thing and I and I kind of, I want to know when the songs were
written because all three songs feel like Christmas to me.

(29:25):
Interesting. I don't know why it's the middle
of May. The first time I heard these
songs was two days ago and they all felt like Christmas.
So I'm wondering if they were written during Christmas time.
And that's kind of like I, I'm subtly hearing it in the
background, but they, they all feel like Christmas carols to
me. Maybe I'm weird, maybe I'm just

(29:45):
my ears need to be chopped off or something.
No, no, I haven't listened to myself so I can't, I can't
comment unfortunately. But I do wonder, like you'll see
in the shows where somebody's like writing something and
they're humming and then you'll see like 3 scenes later somebody
else is reading it and they start humming the same tune.
I wonder if maybe there's something like that, Maybe maybe
you're on to something. They were writing it during

(30:06):
Christmas and there was no intention of bleeding that in,
but on some level. I mean, it could just be that
the instruments that were chosento be used for the songs are
just instruments. I hear mostly during Christmas
songs and that's why I'm associating it.
But I do, and because of that, Ican't get that out of my head.

(30:26):
Which means I can't visualize Minecraft while listening to
this music. My mind is broken.
My problem is I play muted. I know a lot of creators, they
don't have the the the music on because they're going to overlay
their own if they don't want it to chop.
I play with no sound. What?
Because yes. So I don't ever hear creepers.
I don't hear gas scream. I hear nothing because I'm so

(30:48):
used to playing, even if I'm playing on like my laptop,
Bedrock or Java with my wife next to me, having the two
sounds gets confusing for me yeah.
And so if I'm playing Java, I'llhave subtitles.
If I'm playing Bedrock, I just I'd have nothing and I just
pray. Bedrock doesn't have subtitles.
Not unless it's been introduced.I haven't kept up to date.

(31:12):
Yeah, as of late, with every little change, especially with
the podcast having moved away from the news orientation.
But no, when at least last time I looked, Bedrock did not have
subtitles that had not been introduced.
I bet you that'll be if it hasn't been changed, I bet you
it'll be changed soon. Yeah, I'm sure it's definitely
on their list of things that they're working out how they can

(31:34):
do it right. I think accessibility is an
important thing, so I can't imagine that being deliberately
ignored. I assume there's some sort of
challenge they're working through.
Let's go ahead and move on to the next part.
Our last episode, we put some polls up for you guys.
Our Spotify and YouTube polls were both pretty consistent.

(31:58):
We asked you which of the new features you are most excited
for, and overwhelmingly everyonechose the new Bad Omen or the
Raid Omen. I can see that.
That's a really good feature. I love how they've made it.
You have to intentionally call araid.
You can't accidentally call a raid because those have really
been a pain in the butt for multiplayer servers for a while

(32:20):
now. I am excited for custom banner
patterns. That's my personal one.
And I think that was like, yeah,no one on the YouTube poll chose
that one, but it was tied for second in the Spotify poll, so
that's good. I would have loved to seen the
banner patterns go higher. For me, the almond effect, It's
it's right. It it's a two way sword like you

(32:42):
said it. There's no more accidental,
which is definitely great on servers, especially if you don't
know there are villagers around because a lot of people keep
them underground or in a building.
So you might think you're fine and then you accidentally get
somebody's somebody's mobs killed.
Yeah, Bedrock. They could spawn underground,
which could be a terrible pain to find.
Yeah. So that's a nice change, but I

(33:04):
like having some degree of random threat.
Again, I think the toggles are great.
They already had it where you could turn off the the patrols.
I think that was a great solution.
I like having some aspects that can catch you by surprise.
You didn't know that was going to pop up, then you knew it
could, maybe. Exactly, Yeah.

(33:24):
But you couldn't say, oh, I knowthis is going to happen.
Woodland Mansion, Outpost, OceanMonument, You know the threats
are there Once you've experienced it once, we all fall
for the desert temple the first time.
But as you dare try to give me asecond time.
What if there was like a 10% chance of killing a vindicator?
Would spawn a raid at a woodlandmansion.

(33:45):
I think that would be awesome. I think that'd.
Be crazy it it would put new danger into that.
Yes, and I'd like to use see thelevels be used maybe like as you
clear out a floor, the next floor gets tougher or something.
They're like that. Or like the third final floor.
Maybe there is a reward if you could do it in like a time
frame, spice it up. Like it's such a massive

(34:08):
structure with such such disappointing loot, especially
now that raids exist. Like I know they're changing it,
but you can still get your rewards well.
Honestly, other than totems, it was a pretty lackluster reward.
Anyways. Yeah, I think there was a good
bit of time where that was me and Jimbo's big gripe.

(34:28):
I was like, yeah, all these new things, they're great.
The the reward system's not worth it.
We're not going to go explore this thing.
The best reward for Woodland Mansion for the longest time was
getting a Vindicator and naming it Johnny and letting it kill
all the mobs for you. Yep, you either got the Johnny,
the Totem of Undying or coal base location.
If if none of those 3 appealed to you then it was pointless.

(34:52):
And even if you went the totem oven dying route you were still
limited. You'd get five maybe.
Yeah, and then you'd get the raid farm set up and the later
updates, and now you have unlimited stock.
You can't give the things away. Yep, and that what's the point
of going to the woodland mansion?
Exactly. I I really hope they revisit
that and yeah, and give it something truly unique to

(35:13):
itself. It's such a cool structure, I
hate that it's undervalued. It's funny, I listen to Java
players, they talk about how it's rare if you were a a
console player you were almost guaranteed one because of the
map size. I've I've seen somewhere we'd
have 4 woodland mansions on a single map.
Wow. Now I thought it'd be cool to do

(35:34):
something really like combine them all into one mega compound.
Yeah, but like that, that's that's the extent of the drain.
Like, come on now. Got to be better.
I actually have one near my baseon channel 64 this season.
If I if I pop out the front doorand head east, there's one,
well, literally over my little mountain Ridge of jungle.

(35:56):
It immediately turns into dark oak forest.
About 400 blocks away, there's awoodland mansion.
Nice. Very cool I.
Like to see that aspect flushed out more biomes with unique
structures. I think that's a nice tie in.
Definitely. When they were doing the Biome
updates, I kind of assumed that every Biome would get a unique
structure that had a percentage of chance of spawning there.

(36:21):
But I when's the last time we got a good Biome update?
I mean they did the mangrove swamp, but I don't consider that
a Biome update. That's a whole new Biome.
Yeah, it's like the bamboo jungle.
I mean, those are those are their own things.
Yeah. So we had the spruce.
Yeah, that got the update of. Course, that was the first one
we got. Yeah, I think that's the only

(36:41):
one we got. Everything else had been new.
We voted for the swamp, but we've already agreed that's it's
its own thing. It's not an update to the swamp.
Correct. We're supposed to get desert,
supposed to get Badlands. I really want Savannah.
Yes. I love the Savannah and it it
really could use a a tweak. I had really thought that was

(37:03):
going to be coming with Armadillo.
I did too. The Badlands, like I figured one
of them was going to get whoeverthe armadillo went to was going
to get a whole Biome update to some extent.

(37:44):
comment. This one's kind of a fun one.
I chose this one because of how out there it has nothing to do
with the show. But Boone asks duds if Jimbo
were to be one type of chip, which one would he be?
I think this is hilarious. I chose Jimbo is a tortilla chip
drizzled with lime juice and a sprinkle of chili powder.

(38:06):
That's Jimbo in chip form. I.
Like that, that's funny. I want to see the memes, guys,
audience. I want to see the memes.
Show me some great Jimbo was a chip and then don't don't stop
there, get everybody. I want to see Don's and Carl and
Decoy. It's a it's Jimbo's Minecraft
skin on a tortilla chip. But being carried away by a bee?

(38:29):
Be carried away by a bee. It's just him screaming that
that would be too much. Nah, perfect.
I want to see a mod get the memeguys and then modders jump on
that meme. Bring it to life Jimbo, we'll
have a package for you soon. He will not like this.
He's like, I retired, why am I getting pulled back in?

(38:50):
You cannot walk away. Right for our main topic, this
came from a tweet from Gas Powered Pick and they had asked
is there anything in Minecraft that's so overpowered it comes
to a point where it harms the game.
And I've got my take on this, but I'm going to let Hopes say

(39:13):
his version first and let's see if we meet up.
Absolutely, this was an interesting one.
There's a lot of first question for me, because I can be a bit
literal minded, is how are we defining overpowered?
To me, overpowered means that you have broken the game.
OK, It is. It is so strong or so beneficial
that the rest of the game is hurt.

(39:34):
And if I recall correctly, that's kind of what the image
was asking. You know what?
What's so overpowered that it's it's hurting things?
My definition was pretty close to that.
My definition was what's something in the game that
allows you to skip parts of the game?
OK, see that that would that's adifferent perspective on it and
that might change my answer. But if we ignore yours for a
second, the skipping it's, you know, like the original question

(39:57):
said, so powerful that it hurts other aspects.
People point to the Electra. However, I know players who have
never been to the end, which means they've never even got.
There. Yep.
A lot of players, even if they get one, then you need gunpowder
to make the farm. Sugar cane, that's easy.
Gunpowder you can do it, but it takes a little bit more time and
effort than a sugar cane farm does.

(40:18):
Can't just plant it and boom youhave a manual 1.
Villagers. People talk about being
overpowered, but villagers in myopinion are only overpowered if
you have a trading hall and thenyou need the farms to supplement
them. So what I'm getting at is with
all of these things, it's eithera rarity thing like golden
apples, nether, right? You have to really grind to get

(40:40):
them, or you have to get lucky. You can't mass produce.
You don't produce well. You don't produce ancient
debris. Sorry.
You do produce nether, right? But you don't produce ancient
debris with the other ones. You have to have the
infrastructure. To me that's the trade off.
I don't think anything in Minecraft is overpowered unless
you choose to play that way. If you did decide that you're
going to go side craft in a single player world and build

(41:01):
all the greatest mega OM farms and you have no interest in
building, well then you've killed the game for yourself.
You have taken away every reasonfor you to continue playing once
you've built all the farms. I love farms, but for me it's I
don't want to have to grind. So the mega gunpowder farm, the
mega villager trading hall, that's so when I die I can go

(41:23):
get regeared. I'm not spending time redoing
content that I've already done. If I have the the mega wood
farm, I don't need to go chopping trees.
I want to go build a log cabin. I go grab some wood, I go build
my log cabin. So I think as long as you play
the game to the way you want, no.
Nothing in Minecraft is overpowered.
Oh my God, I sat here the entiretime with a smile on my face.

(41:48):
My note, I have one note that says nothing can harm the game.
It's literally about how you play the game.
If you don't like something, if you think that harms your
gameplay, you could just not play with it.
There's so many players who do that, and it's very interesting
to watch other people play the game how they like playing the

(42:08):
game. Because I might not play the
game that way. I watch a ton of creators who
I'm just like, I would never do that, but it's exciting 'cause
it's different. And you, you saw a lot with
Hermit Craft this season. How late in the game they got
Elijah's. They really wanted to say boots
on the ground for a long time. I'm with you on the villager

(42:29):
trading halls. Yeah, the trading hall itself
can be considered overpowered. Don't.
Don't build 1. Yeah, or if you do, don't build
the farms to mass produce them, Don't get a raid farm.
Yeah, exactly. Don't build an auto lawn care
farm, or if you build farms keepthem semi automatic.
Still have to go in and replant yourself, still have to harvest
yourself or some aspect? Keep something to it.

(42:51):
If you have the whole trading hall already in the farm, don't
zombify your villagers. Keep the prices high.
Build friction for yourself. I've only zombified villagers
once and then realized, like, yeah, this got a little too
easy. And I I've never done it again.
I like building my automatic farms to a smaller scale, and

(43:12):
that's kind of how I regulate myoverpoweredness, where it's
like, well, yeah, it's an automatic farm, but it doesn't
produce at such high levels. It's considered infinite.
Yeah, my wife, she hates the automatic farm.
She's like, well, just play creative.
That's one of the fun things about playing with people in the
house is because we're very different play styles.
She is a builder and an explorer.

(43:34):
She loves that aspect of the game.
She loves going. I like seeing the stuff, but if
I'm in the project, I don't wantto go running off.
I don't want to have to like if I'm going to go running around,
I want to have have nothing going on.
It's a, it's a free day, you know, no projects.
I'm in the middle of then sure. But for the most part, no, not
my cup of tea. I want to stay in my base.
I want to build my farms. I want everything coming
together. And once all that is done, we

(43:56):
can go explore, we can go build, because at no point am I going
to have to pause to go collect resources.
It's all there. Yes, home buddies.
Yes. And so she's like, well, just
play creative. Creative does not is not the
same. Not the same.
It is not. In creative you have unlimited
access to everything infinitely from the jump.
No work is put in. I compare it to if you have

(44:19):
wealthy parents who have a established income source and
you're born into that, you didn't work for it, you didn't
earn it, you didn't study for it.
You just from jump 1 Easy St. inthat direction.
Yeah, rich people have their ownpalms.
Not the point. Point is from that perspective.
But if you went to school or learned to trade and you built
up your business to the point where you were, you know that

(44:41):
multi millionaire who whose kidswill have Easy Street, you have
put in the work, you have built the infrastructure to support
that and that is the difference.Plus you can still die.
You can't die in creative. Yeah, I'm very much, I see my
game style as a problem solver, puzzle maker.
So like building farms and stuff, it's all puzzles to me.

(45:04):
And how can I get this puzzle tomove in the correct way to
produce a product I need? And I very much AM.
I'm on that. And we're sitting here talking
and I'm realizing the only thingthat can be overpowered to hurt
the game is your knowledge of the game mechanics.

(45:25):
If you know the game mechanics so well, you can build these
obscene auto producing farms, oryou can go exploring to like the
buried treasure trick where you someone can look at the F3
screen. I think it's F3.
Yeah, can look at that screen and know exactly where to dig
down to get to the buried treasure.

(45:46):
That's game knowledge that is just up there.
I have no, I I go looking for buried treasure.
I'm still digging up half the beach.
But yeah, I guess there's no single item in the game that
could hurt it. From my perspective, it's just
knowledge. If you know the game so well in
and out, it changes your your gameplay.

(46:08):
That might be the only thing. You mentioned like building
that, that mega farm. I still disagree with that.
On our server we're building oneof logical geek boys gunpowder
farm. We've probably got like 5
beacons, 6 beacons down there. We're tearing whole chunks.
It's like four or five chunks. It's massive. 256 by 256 I
believe is the whole all the wayfrom bedrock to the surface.

(46:31):
And yes, once it's all done, nobody on the server will ever
need a gunpowder farm or to killa creeper a yet.
But it's been in the works for months.
I think it started off with two of us.
I think there's five or six people now who have all helped
dig in this hole. No building has happened.
And when I, when I go in, I don't play often.
And when I do play, I don't workon the whole often.

(46:53):
But like, that's why we have multiple people.
And I will spend, you know, 2-3 hours digging at a time if I'm
going to go do that. And we're still just digging
with efficiency, 5 picks and haste to beacons.
And so yeah, the reward will be huge.
And to me, that's when we talk Minecraft and we talk about
these updates. That's always what it comes down
to. The Trident is really cool, but

(47:14):
does it do enough damage to be worthwhile?
You know, the crossbow, it's really cool, but is it worth it
when you can get a bow with Power 5?
And that's always what the community comes back to is are
you having to put in the work for the reward?
If it's too easy, then people get upset like Iron Farm, people
say those can be a little too easy today and it's there's not

(47:37):
enough challenge, then sure. But with like the mega farm, to
me, the thing that separates it from creative is you have to to
take the infrastructure first. You have to get, if it's a
complicated farm, you have to get the Redstone materials and
the component. Yeah, go to the nether for the
quartz, you got to get the iron for the Pistons, you got to The
Hoppers. Oh my Lord, hoppers are
expensive. So you got to you got to bring

(47:58):
all these things together. And so it's not like you're just
snapping your fingers and getting free stuff.
That's what I think people oftenforget when they see these these
ridiculous side craft level farms of insanity tango tech
getting 800 Redstone an hour. You still had to set up
everything to make that work. And if you play a long term

(48:18):
world, once an update comes up, that might break every farm.
Yep, it might not even break your main farm.
It might break the little subsidiary farms if you're
feeding resources into the crafter for a whole new farm.
Yeah, I've got a world I createdbefore the Nether update that
I'm still playing on to this day, and everything I've built
Redstone farm wise has been to minimalize the taking advantage

(48:44):
of what could be considered a glitch in the game just because
I don't want it to break. The only thing that might break
is my my storage room. I built one of those Mazuma
games storage rooms Zuma's been on here.
He's real nice guy. And it's not one of the newer
ones, It's one of the older ones.

(49:06):
And looking through the Redstone, I didn't see anything
that was taking advantage of a certain game mechanic that could
be patched out at a later date. So I went, I think this version
is the most quote UN quote unbreakable version.
Yeah, as is. But if for some reason it does
have something in there that gets patched out and it breaks

(49:28):
that whole thing, I think I'm finally just going to go do a
new world. Those things, I love them.
I don't I don't have one on thisseason of Channel 64.
I built the first one last season on Channel 64 and then I
built it into my single player world and I'm missing it this
season. Yes, it is faster to just
manually put my stuff up than the machine can do it, but I

(49:50):
forgot how much I just like throwing everything into a
single chest, going and grabbingsomething to eat or getting a
drink. Maybe looking over my video
edits at the same time and just letting it do its thing.
Mm hmm. Absolutely, yeah.
For me, it's like my wife is is a bit OCD.
So, you know, we bass together and everything has its place.

(50:11):
Uh huh. Everything has got a chest where
it belongs, where it needs to be, and it's all manual.
I've determined one of these days I am going to have enough
of a period where I can build the whole sorting system.
And people will say like, yeah, but you can do it faster
manually maybe, depending on howhuge it is and how far around
you got to run around, find everything.
Yeah. It's like we're home bodies

(50:32):
already. I don't, I don't go off on 10K
block adventures every day. What's in Welshire?
So most of the time I'm already in the loading zone.
Like all my phones are around me.
My storage system, Who cares if it takes 20 minutes?
I won't be playing for 20 minutes.
My bra it will be sorted by the time I go to log off.
Exactly. But I think that's going to do

(50:53):
it, man. We we hit right on time too.
Awesome. I kept looking down.
