We apologize for the issues withthe audio on this episode.
Roboting was noticed during the live stream, but we believed
we'd fixed it pretty quickly. This turns out not to be the
case. We've edited the audio as much
as we can to make it more clearer for you to listen to,
but it's still not the best. We hope that the next episode's
recording will be much better. Thank you for bearing with us.

(00:42):
Welcome to the Withering Effect Episode 190 live from our studio
on the Withering Effect server. Today's date is September 27th,
2025 and I am duds or duds versus known to the rest of the
year webs. And I'm Carl, you may know me as
Carl rides. Today we're going to cover all
the news and announcements for Minecraft Live for September

(01:03):
2025. S duds did you enjoy the show?
You already know this answer, Carl.
I do for the audience. That's it will not be a good
show for me today. I am quickly finding out that

(01:26):
maybe Minecraft is just not my game anymore.
At least I've been saying this for a while now.
Yeah, at least vanilla. Yeah.
So before we even talk about what happened at Live and stuff,
I was for sure thinking the way updates were going to be working

(01:50):
now is that we'd have a couple of smaller updates throughout
the year with one larger update.Yeah, that does not seem to be
the case. It seems that we're just getting
smaller updates, no larger updates.
And if we are going to get a larger update, it'll come
sporadically. I assume the smaller updates

(02:13):
were, hey, it didn't fit in the bigger update, so we just made a
smaller 1 so we could still do it.
Yeah. And then this update really
feels like a copy and paste job.And I'm going to get hate for
that. And I get it, Omni staying, we

(02:37):
stand really roboty. Yeah, it's fine.
It's sorting. It's.
OK, good. Yeah, I, I will no longer
believe they're making a larger update until I see something two

(02:57):
years of smaller updates. And see, what's crazy is like
the last update, the Copper Age update, which we're going to
talk about what's a good update.I thought it was a very good
update. It wasn't for me.
I I don't see myself. I'm coppered out.
The amount of copper we've gotten over the last couple of
updates, I'm just coppered out. I don't want to.

(03:18):
OK, sure. Yeah, it was a good update.
I feel like if they don't all the copper at the same time.
Yes. In one big copper update we'd be
way more infused for it. Is this the problem I have with
the way Mojang is doing this? Is this drip feeding of things

(03:43):
that should have just come out together?
Yes, and I get they probably didn't think of it at the time
they were doing it. Which shows a lot of hiding
skills then. Somebody had to have been
thinking about it. It just.
I mean, yeah. And I, I want to preface because

(04:04):
I'm going to be very critical ofthis podcast.
This is my favorite game of all time.
I've put more hours into this game than any game ever.
I love this game. I absolutely hate the direction
it's going. Yeah, I'm playing on updates way

(04:25):
in the past. Like I have not updated to 121
yet because I don't see the point.
There's nothing in these updatesthat riles me up, gets me
excited. Yeah.
The only thing in the copper update that I actually really

(04:46):
like, there's there's two things.
There's the copper lanterns. I really like those.
Love the copper lanterns and theshelves.
I think they're really cool as well.
I don't. Like the shelf texture, but I
love the concept of the shelves.Yeah, they showed some pictures

(05:06):
on Minecraft live of people using them architecturally for
like pillars and things, and I think they look really good
there. So I think for certain builds
they can really look good and I think the functionality isn't

(05:27):
perfect by any stretch, but it'sit's a really good idea and I
don't think the implementation is that bad.
And there is. I don't.
Think the implementation is bad at all.
I just think don't call it a shelf.
Yeah, it's not. It doesn't.
Look like a shelf. It doesn't really function like
a shelf. Yeah, call it anything else.

(05:48):
Yeah, call it an extreme item frame because it's a good thing.
It's a good item, Very creative, especially how you can switch
hop arts with it. A lot of thought went into that,
yeah. And that's what makes this next
update disappointing to me. That's the one thing that I

(06:10):
think makes that update. I'm kind of like, oh, and also
like the copper bulbs as well. I wanted to use those on Let's
Create, but I didn't actually need to because you showed me a
pulse extender that I could actually use in create itself.
But originally I was thinking ofusing a copper bolt because it's
on and off state. That would make my doors work.

(06:32):
My sliding door. Even can we even use copper
bulbs in Create? Because that's all the way back
to 120. It's the update just after the
version of create that we have that has the copper bolt.
So we can't even use the coverable.
Yeah, it's 120.6 I think and creates 120 dot two or three,

(06:56):
something like that. So we're on 120.1120 dot one.
Yeah, because it's fabric. But if people anyone who's
commenting it's because we're onfabric.
Yes, that's why it's we like, welike the fabric version.
We don't have a lot of much. We literally just have create.
Yeah. So we've been, we've been OK.

(07:17):
We have not, we've not even ran the gauntlet on basic create
yet. Yeah, Yeah, we're OK there.
We've still got trains to do. Yes, yes, I know.
Trains does trains. I need to come and help you with
your signals and stuff because you seemed a bit.
Well, I've been thinking about it.

(07:39):
Well, the problem was. Where I have my train station,
yeah, the tunnels are not going to be or the rails are not going
to be exposed where they connect.
So I've got digging to do. Yeah, yeah.
So yeah. But I think yeah, like we got
the layout work out, though. Yeah, yeah.

(08:02):
Like back to the copper update shelves I liked.
I just don't like the name, don't really like the texture.
But if you were to call it something other than a shelf, I
think the only reason I don't like the texture is because it's
called a shelf, and that's not what a shelf looks like to me.
So that's kind of a mental thing.
Copper golden statues are adorable, and I love how they

(08:23):
went back and added it to the game.
I got no problem with that. Yeah, the new die art.
I don't. Really like the new die art.
I don't think it's distinctive enough.
I think Vanilla Tweaks does a very good job.
Yeah, with their dyes, Vanilla Tweaks has much better die
textures than the new version ofMinecraft.

(08:46):
Vanilla is yeah, much, much better.
Yeah, copper armor. I'm not going to use it unless
it's for decoration, probably. I wish armor could get a bit
more creative every every like the right armor started to look
a little different. Like if you look closely, the

(09:07):
boots look different from diamond boots and stuff like
that. And I wish there was a lot more
variation with that instead of tiny tweaks that would that
would be a lot cooler. But where it's at, I mean, I
wear iron armor until I can get diamond armor, and I wear
diamond armor until I can get another right armor, and I don't

(09:29):
really play with much in between.
I might throw a gold boot in there or a hat just so I can go
in and out of another without remembering.
On my single player world I don't even do that because my
nether so wide open I'm flying all the time, so the nether
really doesn't pose a problem for me.
Yeah, I don't really follow another I I diamond everything.

(09:54):
Most of the time I don't even wear my diamond hat.
I just wear my create goggles and I wear.
And create, I just wear goggles the entire time Yeah, I was
trying to do something underwater and I'm like, oh, I
don't have water boots in your. Mind and then I just wear my
gold boots all the time because I can't bother changing when I
go in the know that's. That's that's what I do.

(10:15):
I wear the gold boots all the time just because I I constantly
forget to put them on. Yep, I'd end up walking in there
and going why is everyone attacking me?
Yeah. But see, these are like game
thing. I don't think we're we're in the
rarity of thinking this way. Maybe we are.
Maybe we've just not seen a lot of people that play differently
than us maybe. And that could be the problem

(10:40):
because these are things that I think would be obvious to MO
Yang, but maybe we're in the minority.
So they're obviously not obvious.
Yeah. So like, my complaints have no
merit. These are really just
personalizations. And I've come to grips with

(11:02):
that. And that's when I say maybe
Minecraft isn't my game anymore because I I'm not seeing
progress in a way I find fulfilling.
And it's not me to say that it'sright or wrong, but for me
personally, it's not what I wantso.
Yeah, The only thing really keeping me playing Minecraft is

(11:28):
Create. Like, you know, that like before
we decided to do a Create server, I haven't played
Minecraft properly. I mean, I've been to Cubed and
stuff, but I haven't played Minecraft properly.
And probably 18 months, two years.

(11:50):
Yeah, absolutely. Because they weren't giving me
what I want. I mean, my wants are different
to yours, but they're not givingme mine.
Either you want that end up date.
And here's the thing, you're notalone in that.
There are lots of people who wanted an end up date.

(12:15):
And we we've talked about the ideas of an end up date on the
show before. It doesn't have to be taking
away the Baroness of the end. It doesn't have to be done in a
way that clutters it up like it can be done smoothly.

(12:37):
It can be done in a way that adds little things here and
there that really add to the game.
We talked about like black lakesof like potions and stuff in the
in the end stone. We talked about like never
entries and things like that. You know, it doesn't have to be

(13:02):
I would actually like a small game drop for the for the end.
Like I don't need a massive update.
Just give it some TLC. And I can agree with the End is
in desperate need of TLC. I do not think it needs a giant
update period. I like the End.
I'm one of those few people thatactually like how the End works

(13:25):
and functions. Now the Nether update is my
favorite update. I've been on record for that
most of the time. I will admit the nether is a
little cluttered going through. I always end up spawning in the
Crimson Forest, which is like the most dangerous Biome you

(13:46):
could spawn in, and it feels a little cluttered.
Yeah, especially because they'reso prominent.
And it's probably more my luck than anything.
It just that makes. Sense it goes, yeah.
Yeah, that makes sense. It's my favorite update and I
and I can deal with some of the little things.
Yeah, you look at trial chambers.

(14:08):
I've not played it in a trial chamber yet.
Me neither. Yeah, it doesn't doesn't appeal
to me. Yeah, combat is probably my
least favorite thing, even though I've been requesting a
combat update for forever now. Yeah, it's all these these
updates that seem to have been abandoned that.
Yes, actually, we, we talked about on the show, we did an

(14:31):
entire episode of the combat update.
We're really excited for it. We we saw some great potential
in what what they were doing with it.
And then it's just completely gone quiet.
Yeah. And we got a little bit of
combat update in this one. Let's let's finish talking about

(14:52):
the Copper Age before we move onto the next update that we got
shown in live oxidizing lightning rods.
I think that's a quality of lifeupdate.
Great, Perfect. Let's see, we talked about that,
that copper golems. Yeah, copper golems oxidizing

(15:13):
into the four little playful statues.
Yeah, sure. Great.
Like I said, I I think the copper updates a great update.
It's not personally for me, but I got really excited seeing it
because I felt like, oh, we're turning a corner on these game
drops. They've got substance now.
Yeah, the man was that wrong. He hurt the copper lanterns when

(15:36):
they, when they first showed them, I was like, oh, we're
getting to a point where, you know, obviously been on Crate a
lot. So Crate has a lot of lamps,
yes. Creative lamps are some of the
best. And I thought when I saw these
copper lanterns, I thought, oh, we're going in that direction.
Are we awesome? Yeah, copper.

(15:57):
Copper torches. Yeah, green torch.
Yeah, very cool. Clearly not.
And scientifically correct. Yeah.
I don't know if you've ever burned a piece of copper, but it
does create a bit of a green flame.
Sorry, I'm going to move around so there might be a little bit
of noise from my chair. It's a live production guys, not

(16:18):
cutting that out like I would normally, yeah.
Sorry, yeah, not much to it. I thought we already had a
podcast on the Copper Age. Carl seems to agree, so I don't
want to go too much into it. Yeah.

(16:39):
The problem is, if we were to dojust the new update, the podcast
would be 15 minutes. Yeah, and you know.
Yeah, so we're getting ready to hop into a new update.
Before we continue with that, let's have Jimbo remind you of
how you can get a discount on your own Minecraft server for,

(17:02):
like I said, toasting. You can get a discount on your
own Minecraft server through ourpartnership with Bisect Hosting,

(17:26):
receive the discount. And we're back.
Thank you very much for that Jimbo, and check out Bitech
hosting if you want a server of your own guys.
Miss Jimbo I reached out to Jimbo to see if you wanted to
play on the Create server, but he was just too busy.
Yeah, he's a he's a busy guy, and we miss Jimbo.

(17:50):
He's always welcome. Yeah, if Jimbo ever messages me
and say, hey, I'd like to come on the show at least for one
episode, you best bet he's coming on the next episode.
Yeah. Definitely.
It's like I say, he's always welcome.
We missed him dearly. I know the audience does as
well. Yes, he always was a a bright

(18:11):
side to my. He wasn't trying.
Now that's my job and I just can't do it as well.
Yeah, you think I'm depressing? Wait till you hear Carl.
I mean, I try and offset you, but I don't, I don't have it in
me. I, I warned.
Carl to you. I was like, you're going to have
to bring the happy Carl tonight,All right?

(18:33):
The spear, the spare, it's a weapon for hand to hand combat.
OK. Damage of the spear is based on
the speed of the player wieldingit.
OK, kind of. Cool.
Don't we already have Trident could just not have been added
to tridents to make tridents better.
Because right now tridents are horrible and no one uses them.

(18:53):
Yes, yes and yes. OK, just making sure.
And I don't know how much like historical stuff, like I'm big
into historical battles, so likeI like watching the ancient
Greeks and all that stuff. And Spears were a hand to hand

(19:14):
combat weapon for sure. They were also for throwing.
They were not for jousting. Nobody jousted with a.
Spear. What did they use for jousting
glances? OK, OK.
Yeah, and I get two things can be the same, but like this would

(19:37):
have been, this would have been cool if they updated the Trident
to do this. Yep, this could have worked with
the Trident. You could have made the Trident
useful. I think the spear will be
useful. There will be players that
prefer a spear over a sword or an axe, and that's going to be
awesome. It should have been the Trident.

(19:59):
Yeah, I feel like for new players that's probably true.
For someone like me, every time they release a new weapon,
whether it's the Mace or the Trident or the cross, I use.
It for a week and never again. Well I use the crossbow just for
my mini game on ripple for shooting fight.

(20:22):
OK, but all those weapons are only used.
In mini games now. Yeah, yeah, I'm just like I'm
old school. I've got a sword, I've got a 2
pickaxes, I've got an axe and a shovel and that's all I need.

(20:45):
And a bow. Real quick I'm he's watching and
I don't want him to feel like he's being ordered and he says
art Lance is just big Spears. At least in French they both
translate to the same words, so it's kind of the same.
It is kind of the same concept. I'm looking into medieval
jousting specifically. In the jousting, a Lance is not

(21:06):
considered a spear, if that makes sense.
Concept wise, yeah, they're pretty much the same, but if
they would have put lances in, Iwould have been OK with.
Minecraft lends itself so much to medieval times, yeah.

(21:28):
It's just kind of how it happens.
So, and like I said, I'm not saying the beard beard the spear
is yeah, I said that because my my beard got into my mouth.
I'm like, oh, I need to shave mybeard.
But anyways, the spear is not inheriting bad.

(21:49):
I'm just saying you had the Trident right there, that people
have been all the time complaining it needs an upgrade.
It's not very useful. And this would have made the
Trident a very useful weapon. Yeah.
So, yeah. Yeah.
Like, it's got a cool mechanic, especially in the jousting where

(22:13):
you have different Spears, have different weights, and that
determines how quick you can recover from basically the
attack mode. Yeah, that.
Was kind of cool. It's cool, but I think it's
going to be reverted back to just the mini game thing.
Yeah, like it's a, it's a mini game weapon.
It's not day-to-day useful. I'm sure there are going to be

(22:34):
some people who can find it. Super like there are people who
do things with maces on Vanilla.I'm like like I'll scroll
through streaming or whatever and I'm trying to find new
people to watch. I watch somebody with a Mace
just clobber the heck out of a mob.
I say a mob of mobs just like 20album and I'm like, OK, I could

(22:56):
never do that. But you don't see that for the
average player. Maybe the spear is a little bit
easier for the average player and but the way they showcased I
I don't know. Again, it's a it's not for me, I
guess until I can try it and see.

(23:17):
Yeah. Maybe we played this game for
too long, but we're just kind ofset in our ways, right?
Setting up our hot bar and stuff.
We were just like, we haven't got time for these, these homes
or these bases or anything. When that's exactly it.
I started scrolling through the comments to to see like are are

(23:39):
people thinking the way I'm thinking and people are not
thinking the way I'm thinking. People very much think this
update was like the greatest update ever done.
Great. It's recently biased, so there's
that. Go and watch the go and watch
the Never update Minecraft live,guys.
Go watch that and tell me that this update is better than that.

(24:01):
You can't. I can't but see that's a
different time when they were doing updates differently.
Yeah, and I would be fine. I would be fine with the
multiple smaller updates if theyhadn't said there's going to be
bigger updates in between. I know for sure that's what they
said. I'm not making this up in my

(24:22):
mind. It's somewhere in there.
But yeah, they were like, we'll have bigger updates as well.
It was something along those lines too.
Yeah, and that made me to think, well, we're going to get one
larger update. It may not be as large as all
the other ones, but it'll be a larger update than the drops.

(24:44):
And you know, we're just kind ofnot getting that.
So either way, the Nautilus, a new mount for players to explore
underwater with speed boots while preserving the players air
supply, can be tamed with a puffer fish and ridden with a
saddle. OK, it's a happy guest

(25:04):
underwater. Yep.
Yeah. Did you enjoy the happy guest
song? I did not see that.
Happy guest. Happy cast guest.
Guest. Don't ever do that again, he.
Hates it when I sing. I've not even used a happy

(25:31):
guest. I've I've not updated to the
point where I can get happy guest.
I've watched people play with a happy guest and I go, OK, you
want to know how bad it is, Carl?
I'm going to pull the mic closer.
I would rather have scaffolding. It took us.

(25:55):
Two years to get him to use scaffolding and he's like, well,
I build everything on slab, so Ican't use scaffolding.
It took a light update. I still stand by the lighting
update is the greatest update Moing has ever done.
And all they did was change an integer.
Yeah, pretty much. It's just that.

(26:16):
But that has allowed me to buildwith so many new blocks because
I like to play with light levels.
Yeah, my bases are so much darker than most people's base.
I. Don't know, in your last video
you went to my base and said this is dark so my train

(26:36):
station. Yeah, not a list.
Happy gassed underwater. You you can breed them.
Maybe not a list. I don't think they showed them
dropping Nautilus shells. A lot of people talked about how

(26:57):
you can farm them but I did not see them drop Nautilus shells.
No, in the trailer I would assume they will.
Yeah, I would assume so, but they didn't actually explicitly
say that or show it so. And granted, there was a whole
play test that came afterwards, but after 10 minutes of jousting

(27:17):
with the Spears, I didn't know. I watched 10 minutes of jousting
and I said, OK, I'm, I'm kind ofdone now.
OK, yeah. Then we have the zombie
Nautilus, which is a retextured Nautilus.
It is technically neutral so it will not attack you, but they

(27:40):
can spawn with Trident moving ground which are going to be
crazy deadly so I don't know. Like so drowned spawned in like
the dark parts of water? Yeah, like the deep dark parts

(28:01):
of water. So I'm wondering if a zombie
Nautilus with the drown on it needs to spawn in the same
situation, or if they can spawn higher up and closer to shore.
Now I do. I would assume it would follow
the same principles as an all around, but who's to say?

(28:22):
Who's to say? Yeah, Nautilus armor, which can
be found in chests. I did not see them craft it.
You can get copper, iron, gold, diamond and nether a armor.
Which is a shame because you cannot get nether a horse armor.

(28:44):
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Happy Gas doesn't get armor.
They get cool carpets and stuff to give them colorful hats.
They don't get armor. It'd be.
Cool, if Happy Gas got armor that'd.
Be really good. That's something I could have
got behind. And finally, the Zombie Horse is

(29:04):
coming to survival. They're a passive mob that
spawns at night, but they're ridden with Spiel spear wielding
zombies and it's cool, but zombie courses have been in the
game for years, they just have not been in survival.
So I don't consider that something new.

(29:24):
Yeah, they've just changed in the software.
They've literally just changed the line that says survival
falls to survival. True.
Now the zombie writing it with aspear, I've got to see how that
interacts. All I saw were pictures of it
and cameras scrolling by it. I never saw them actually attack
anything or how their AI works. I would assume it's a little bit

(29:48):
like the skeleton horse skeletons and those guys are
more of a nuisance and they are cool now.
So yeah, I can only imagine yourfirst nights and you have a
zombie horse Zombie, the spear spawn near you, Yeah.

(30:11):
Can we just appreciate for the for the moment, like how much
zombie is in this update, but strays still can't drop sand.
Can we just can we just take a moment to appreciate that?
But Mojave. You are still on that horse.

(30:32):
Just do it. Zombie horses.
It's just so obvious. Well, see, that's just it all.
All the copper from the copper Age was obvious to us.
I feel like I'm getting an update.
You can't do that. You're supposed to be the calm
one on this podcast. Calm.

(30:52):
Think of it. It's just not possible, yeah.
I think I think the big thing was this could have been an
e-mail. We do not need Minecraft live To
me this feels like 2 lives in a row where they were small drops.
Yeah, this could have been a press release that we could have

(31:14):
just got fiery the copper up to you.
The copper age update is or actually update drop was a lot
more going on and it probably could have deserved live.
Like I said, it's a good update even though it's not for me.
Yeah. So appreciate a good update,

(31:34):
even when it's not your cup of tea.
Definitely. I don't think this updates a
good update and again, there arelots of people from what I can
tell that are completely disagreeing with me and that's
fine. Again, personal preference.
Yep, but a lot of this feels like a copy and paste.

(31:59):
It's just a happy ghast underwater zombie Nautilus is
just a Nautilus with a zombie texture that can again put a
zombie on top of. You get a zombie course, which
was already in the game for a long time.
Now they have zombies riding them.
The Spears the only really interesting item and I felt it

(32:20):
could have worked better with a Trident.
But again, once I mess with it, I'll know for sure because I was
excited about the crossbow. Yeah, I don't know if you
remember, but I was excited for the crossbow until I got my
hands on it. I was like, oh this is useless.
And you know, for what I used itfor, it was a great.

(32:42):
Mini game. All these new weapons are just
great mini game tools. Yeah, it really feels that way.
I don't know, I feel. Like.
There has to be more to this update than this.
Yes, I kind of have a feeling that they had AI want to say a

(33:06):
large update. They had a larger update planned
and they couldn't get it ready in time, so they went with this.
It it feels like it's missing something.
It seems even for them, it seemstoo light on features.

(33:27):
I mean, if you remember. I don't know was that the guest
update was just the happy guest. Was that the one where we got
the crafter though? No.
Was that the one before? No, I feel, I feel like.
There was an. They're all running.
Yeah, I feel like they're. All running together now I.

(33:47):
Feel like there was a drop wherethere was loads of little things
and then the crafter and I feel like this update is missing its
quote UN quote craft and moment well I think.
I think the big item from this update is the spear.

(34:10):
I think a lot of people will saythe Nautilus happy Ghast update
was a big rework of leads. Yeah, but the leads aren't new.
Yeah, don't get me wrong, the lead rework was definitely a
quality of life thing that needed to be.
Done needed to happen, but it like I wouldn't call that

(34:31):
revolutionary, barely stretch the origination.
But there has to be more to thisupdate than this drop.
Sorry there has to be more, I don't what it is.
I don't think there has to be more because I'm pretty sure

(34:52):
when we got the happy guest, it was just the happy guest.
So like, I very much think this was intended to be a drop and it
it fulfills the thing of a drop, but it's not Minecraft live

(35:12):
worthy. I want them to go back to the
days where we got one massive update a year.
It was better times it, it just.It was more better times it
just. There are people that are like
when you get 1 update you complain about how long it takes

(35:33):
for that update. I don't think I ever complained
about how long it took. I complained about how smaller,
how much smaller those updates seem to be getting and how they
constantly would push half the features to the next update.
Like, like Carl likes to say, there was caves and cliffs part
four and five, Yeah. Caves and cliffs just went on

(35:53):
and on and on and on and on. Right, and don't me wrong, I
don't want that again. But if you want to make a a
smaller update than those, but it needs to be larger than these
drops. And if you want to take one of
these drops out to make room forsomething like that, you have a

(36:13):
lot of employees that work for MO Yang now.
Like to me, it's kind of blowingmy mind that they were more
effective with less employees than with more employees now I
feel. Like that's kind of how it works
though. The more people you have, the
more bureaucracy, the more systems, the more meetings, the

(36:40):
more you know. I feel like it's it's easier to
be agile when you have less employees.
Having a big team is like turning a tanker.
You are probably 100% correct, but numbers like to me I felt

(37:08):
like there was more love and care put into the Dragon Ball
DLC than there was for this drop.
They love their DLCS for bedrockbecause they sell them.
Yeah, it, it makes them money and I have no problem with that.
Those those DLCS mean we get free updates so I will not

(37:33):
complain about those DLCS. Some of them look really cool.
If I played bedrock you best betI would be buying the Dragon
Ball DLCI Love Dragon Ball growing up.
Yeah, there's been a few over the last couple of years.
Batman yeah, there's been a few that I was like, wow, if if that
was available on Java or I'd, I'd play the heck out of that,
you know, and we talked, we talked about this.

(37:56):
You were surprised that they don't have a Java store yet?
Yeah, we was talking about that just before we were starting the
show. Like keep it where you can
install mods and plug insurance and resource packs and all that
stuff as it is now. But offer in the in the
Minecraft launcher, offer a store like the Bedrock

(38:20):
Marketplace with these DLCS or asubset of them, because
obviously they have to transcodethem from C++.
I think it is to that's what they're running to Java.
I get that. I get this work involved in
transcoding it. But give us a subset of them and

(38:42):
allow us to buy them. Like take away on it.
Yeah, don't take away our ability to mod it and plug
insurance and all that for free like we do now, because that
will end badly. But.
Well, if you, if you were to make the DLCS for Java, but you
were to say, hey, you cannot useyour mods on this DLC, it just

(39:07):
won't work, right. I would be 100% fine with that,
yeah. Be.
Totally on board. Yeah, but don't touch my game
where I want to fight with mods and dude skin editors.
I love skin editors. I love making skins for my
character. He's he's sporting the.

(39:31):
The. The grey hoodie this evening and
I am sporting my cubed hoodie ontop of the on top of my shirt
that does design for. Reference guys, this is what I'm
wearing literally right now. A pair of grey tittitus, a pair

(39:52):
of dark jeans and a grey hoodie. He he basically makes his
wardrobe into essentially great.I've been wearing this skin for
like a year and a half now. Yeah.
But my favorite skin was probably the skin I wore the
least on YouTube, and that's thebomber jacket skin.

(40:14):
That was a good. That's my favorite skin, yeah.
That was a good one like that one.
Speaking of Cube, we should probably just mention Cube
because we haven't mentioned it in an episode yet.
So Cube is October 3rd to 5th and play.qcom.com.

(40:34):
Get your tickets at qcom.com. Free tickets available.
Also pay tickets, which the money goes to, the profits go to
charity, which is Special Effects, which is a charity that
creates gaming for people with disabilities and allows them to,
you know, they're like custom controllers and stuff for people

(40:54):
who have problems. And it's a really good event.
We have a booth there and we'll be doing a live show just like
this from that booth next weekend.
Is that, is it that close? Is that?
I'm pretty sure it's next weekend.
Yeah. So we'll be releasing
information on social media and Discord about a live episode

(41:16):
from our booth. We're not doing a stage this
year and I have work commitments.
That means I can't be beholden to cube schedule this year.
I just don't have that flexibility at the moment.
So we are going to be doing it from our booth like we did the
first year we were a cube. So it's kind of like going full

(41:36):
circle. We had the Booth show and then
the next year we had the outdoorstage and then we had the
community stage. And then last year we had the
big mainstage with our crossoverepisode with Inside MC.
And this year we're going back to a little a Little Booth
episode. Which we got to make bigger

(42:01):
because we caught a mistake. Yeah.
The software on the Cube's boothserver was making us build to 11
when it was supposed to be 13, so not much of a difference.
I don't think I changed much when we.
Because originally we built it, we modified it to fit in the
space because we weren't sure ifthey were going to be able to

(42:23):
fix it. And sure enough, they fixed it
right away and we got to make our building a little bit
taller. Yeah, which was nice.
So great job by the cubed people.
They're always great people. They are.
The team over there are awesome. They're always really good to us
and really flexible and stuff. So yeah, our booth is kind of
like kind of a pub atmosphere, isn't it this year?

(42:46):
Yeah, that's what we're going for.
Well, I, I can save the originalidea for the booth now because
we could not use it. Yeah.
Yeah. So my plan was to make a blue a
circle out of I'd say blue circle, a blue flaming circle
out of glass with a wither rising up out of it with a

(43:08):
statue. The problem was you only have 15
blocks wide and I could not get a good enough wither instead
blocks so. They went with a pub building.
Yeah. The amount of designs, because
obviously I designed the last two, pretty 90% of it.

(43:31):
I designed like half of the first one.
And this year I left Duns in charge.
And over those years that I was in charge of the booth design,
the amount of ideas that I went through that I just couldn't
make work because of the size isthere must be about 15 designs

(43:55):
that I tried over that time thatjust didn't work because of the
size. So I feel, I feel that pain.
Well, the building is very, it'sstraight up a design we've done
before. It's the building that I used
when we built the Guardian Farm Shop together on Ripple Effect,

(44:16):
which is why I wanted to use it.I go, we worked on this building
originally together, so I'm going to bring the facade and
modify it to fit here. Yeah.
And that's what I did. Really the only thing I took
from that building are the pillars and the upper cross
members. I actually used it in create to
do my base extension also. Nice.

(44:39):
So but I think I think the boothlooks better than my create base
extension. Shall I take my camera over
there and show them? Oh, a little.
Sneak peek. Yeah, let's do a sneak peek.
I think it's right now Omni's inlive so he gets the.

(45:00):
So we have on our server where our studio is, we have the
first. So people who are not watching
the video version go to youtube.com slash at withering
effect. So this is the first year that
we had. Let's start with.
This is the Withering Effect server, the creative section of

(45:21):
it. Yeah.
This is our second year booth, so we have our cube booths on
there. This is our third year booth,
and then this is the one for this year.
As you can see, we've got the little microphone there, the
weather rose and some design on the side we have.

(45:44):
You'll notice this if you watched the the episode where me
and Duds built that Guardian shop.
This is basically the same kind of front design.
And then if we go inside, we've got our little, our pop feeling
kind of kind of studio. So you'll see more of that next
week in our live episode. And if you come to Cubed,

(46:07):
cubecon.com, I'm stuck. OK, there we go.
If you come to Cubed, you'll be able to join us there as well
and take some pictures with our booth as well.
I thought that was a cool little.
Thing Yeah, and there are Eastereggs.
Not a lot of Easter eggs, but there are a few Easter eggs in
the booth. Yeah, so they come to Cubed.

(46:28):
Try and find them, take some pictures with us, join us for
live episode. Yeah, that'd be pretty cool.
So Duts, what other games are you looking forward to playing?
OK, so. This this comes with the maybe
Minecraft isn't for me and I've been watching other games.

(46:52):
Whoa, hang on. Before we even get there, I've
got a little rant and I don't know how.
Yeah, I don't know how much people follow the YouTube world.
Obviously, I make YouTube videosand I've not been the greatest
of putting episodes out, but I've noticed a huge drop in my

(47:12):
views and I've just accompanied or I basically go, well, I'm not
very good at putting videos out now.
I think it took me two months toput out this last video.
So I've always assumed it's my fault.
But there are several creators now saying they're getting like
half the views they used to. And they are much more of an

(47:34):
uploader than I am. Yeah, they're like weekly.
And they're like, yeah, my viewshave been cut in half.
I've also noticed Minecraft. Yeah, I've noticed Minecraft
content is just not relevant on YouTube for the most part.
To the point where I had to go searching for the Minecraft live

(47:56):
stream. Same, they didn't come up on my
feed. Our live stream came up on my
feed when I loaded it from my personal account.
So it wasn't even like I was logged into the web infact to go
it was my personal account. And our stream came up, but the
Mojang one didn't know. It's crazy.
And I'm not saying there are notMinecraft YouTube videos on my

(48:18):
recommended. I'm just saying I usually had
like the ratio of Minecraft videos were like 3 to one for
anything else. And now it's like other videos
are 9 to one. Yeah.
So like I'm only getting recommended 1 Minecraft video
and if I refresh the page to maybe get a couple of like if I

(48:40):
scroll through and I can't find anything I'd like and I refresh
the page to get different videos, I get the same videos.
It's like YouTube wants you to watch these videos and only
these videos. Yeah, whenever I refresh my
homepage, I'll see a set of videos, I'll refresh it, I'll

(49:02):
get another set of videos, then I'll refresh it again and I'll
get the first set again. Yeah, it's like, you really want
me to watch this, But I'm the kind of person who sees videos
that on my homepage, most of thetime I use the subscription
feed, but when I do see them on the homepage, I'm the kind of

(49:23):
person who just sends everythingto watch later.
My watch later playlist is like so long.
Just filled with duds versus. No, I watched those straight
away because I have to get the first comment.
Yeah, but that's brought me to this new game.

(49:45):
I have had it for a while. I've bought it.
I have not downloaded it though, because my old graphics card
could not handle it. I have recently got a new
graphics card you have. That's one of the reasons.
That's one of the reasons my episode was delayed.
It is because I did the new graphics card, I took everything
out, cleaned the PC, kind of, I don't know how to say it because

(50:10):
I didn't do a massive update to it, but I did a lot of little
things, cleaned it out, take thetook the cooler off, put new
paste and stuff on the CPU, and I did all that.
That took a little bit of time. That being said, Enshrouded is
the game I'm excited about. I am really excited about

(50:32):
Enshrouded. It's got a new update coming in
October. So I told myself in October when
that update comes out, they don't know what day in October.
It's either going to be the early part of October or it's
going to be the later part of October.
And I generally, whenever someone tells me that I go, it's
the later part of October. Yeah.
But yeah, if it comes out earlier, great.

(50:54):
Yeah. But I I've tell myself it's
going to come later. So I'm really looking forward to
some introuted. I'm hopefully going to try to
make some videos on it. I don't know how well people
will like that stuff, but I think introuted, it's going to
be an amazing game. It's just not getting the kind

(51:15):
of love it deserves right now from YouTube, not not from the
devs. The devs are, they're putting
out updates like it's going out of style, like they, they truly
love that game. You can tell.
Yeah, it looks looks really cool.
Probably not my kind of thing, but.

(51:35):
No, I think I showed it to you once.
It's a car. You need this game and you're
like, yeah. Yeah, it looks really good, but
you know, I'm over here playing Hitman, so yeah.
Which is, you know, my game thatI really enjoying at the moment.
It's been out for a number of years, the World of
Assassination trilogy and they've been putting out these

(52:01):
drops every every like 3 months. And they've been putting out
drops with new Elusive targets, new DLCS, new weapons, new
suits, new everything. And it's kind of, I've been,
I've been more impressed with their drops than I have with my
James drops. I'm not going to sugarcoat it.

(52:23):
I just have and you know, as youwill all know, I'm a massive
James Bond fan and I am so excited for double O 7 first
Light, which is made by the teamthat makes Hitman and that game
is set to come out in the secondquarter of next year, I think

(52:46):
like April, May, June area. And so I'm really excited to
play that and and you won't see me for like weeks once that
comes out. But we also have high tail, of
course. Yeah, so you kind of not talked

(53:10):
about Hightail because you don'tsay anything unless it's for
sure. So I'm not going to talk much of
it. I just know a former dev of
Hightail has been trying to purchase Hightail back to save
it from cancellation because thegame's cancelled.
It's not on the books. I fully suggest people don't
think that it's coming out. There's no reason to get your
hopes up until you have a guarantee.

(53:32):
Yeah, but Simon is doing everything he can to purchase a
game back. And they said whenever the game
is brought back, they've got a road map that they're going to
put out immediately and that they plan on releasing an alpha
version of the game quickly stating that it is obviously not
going to be finished. And they want you to know it's

(53:53):
not going to be finished, but it'll get it in your hands to
play, test and figure out what exactly needs to be done to make
it a better game, which I'm excited about.
There's a lot of clarity in everything they say about it.
So if they if they can purchase the game back, I'm going to be
extremely excited. Yeah, and obviously once the

(54:14):
road maps out, we will do an episode going through the road
map and talking about what we think and the kind of direction
that they're going for. If Simon manages to get the game
back and manages to put this out, then of course we'll be

(54:35):
playing it. I do want to point out.
So I've been scrolling through Twitter.
And I guess people are saying that Yan's mentioned that this
was just some of the features ofthe update or the drop.
So there's there might be more coming, which I thought Mojang
said that they were not going todo that anymore.

(54:58):
Yeah. That they were going to show
what they had ready to go. This is what I'm talking about.
The communication is fuzzy. Yeah.
Well, they're saying it's going to come out by the end of the
year. That's a couple months.
Away. Yeah, That's that's that's true.

(55:19):
Actually, it's nearly October. Yeah, it took a couple months to
get to this point. This is why I said earlier it's
October 3rd next week. Because I'm like, is it, are we
that far into the year already? Yeah.
So our argument of it being way too little could be known and

(55:40):
void. I mean, I doubt a book.
What? Yeah, I kind of doubt it.
I'm not giving Maureen the benefit of the doubt anymore.
I just know. I mean, I might be mean or
whatever, but I'm just not goingto give them the benefit of the
doubt. They can show and prove me
wrong, and I will be so happy ifthey prove me wrong.

(56:02):
You don't understand how excitedI'll be.
Don't they usually take most of December off?
Yes. So take December out of the
equation. It's like halfway through
December through halfway throughJanuary.
Yeah, they take the holiday break and then a lot of them
take summer break. Yeah.

(56:25):
Last year it was two months for the one at this time, yes, but
we already saw everything for the one we.
Shall see what happens. Yes, and those are granted less
than he did before the episode, so I'm very proud.
Yeah, Carl said. I couldn't say that right again

(56:48):
because they had way too many swear.
Words. Yeah, and I don't have a bleep
button. My stream deck is full of
buttons. I don't have any free buttons to
have a bleep button. And do.
Yeah, I hope the bleep came through.

(57:08):
They didn't. I censored myself just in case.
It didn't. Yeah, it was just silent.
So the gold XLR has like stoppedreceiving support now.
So. And I've been I put my spare
money into my vehicle, not my gaming setup.
It took a lot for me to buy a new graphics card.

(57:30):
Yeah, you were sort of. You were using me as a sounding
board for whether you should buyit or not.
And I'm over here going, I buy Apple computers.
You're wasting your time talkingto me about this.
Yes, so the graphics card I bought is a massive increase

(57:50):
from what I had. I was using a GTX1070 so it's
old. It was done.
That being said, there were things that GTX 70 does better
than this graphics card. I've got an RX something I I
forget it's it's one of the newest AMD ones like it.
It came out a month before I bought it and it and it is good.

(58:16):
It actually likes VSYNC. So my GTX did not like VSYNC.
Do not VSYNC on that graphics card.
This one loves VSYNC and runs everything massively smoother.
Yeah, we were playing with that on Let's Create when we were
going through your settings, when you got your new graphics
card all working and stuff, we went through your settings and

(58:39):
was like, well, should we just try VSYNC and see whether that
makes a big improvement or not? Well.
The thing was, if I looked one way I could get 300 frames and
if I looked another way I got 40.
And whenever there's a giant chunk of frames that just
disappear like that, it stuttersthe game.
And that stutter actually makes me motion sick.

(59:02):
So I, I can't have that. So we dialed it in, we got it to
where the jump was really like 20 or 30 frames, but that's
still technically a lot. And you're like, well, just try
the VSYNC. And sure enough, my monitors are
only 60 frames. So it dropped it to 60 and then

(59:23):
everything smoothed out. It didn't jump a single frame.
It's like, oh, you want 60, I'vegot 60.
The monitors 60, we're doing 60 and I can walk all around the
create world with no hitches andit's great.
Which is amazing. I, yeah, I went to my single
player world, which is not as stressful.

(59:45):
My single player world I can average 200 and something frames
no problem, which doesn't mattermy my mother is only 260.
But I turned VSYNC on in there and everything worked.
It it was great. I'm not going to complain.
It seems like AMD just likes theVSYNC.
They do AMD loves the VSYNC it seems.

(01:00:09):
Yeah. All right, anything else to
cover or do you think we've exhausted?
They announced I'm I'm. Exhausted.
Well, you're your projection of a 30 minute episode was rocked.

(01:00:35):
Well, that's because we covered the Copper Age again.
Well, you know you have to do what you and talked.
About other games. We talked about other games on a
podcast dedicated to Minecraft Live.
Yeah, literally at the bottom ofthe screen on the stream it says
Minecraft Live September 2025 recap episode, and it's maybe

(01:00:57):
been half of it. Yeah.
So there's that. Yeah.
Would you like to read us out? Not really, Carl.

Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
