It is my belief that the Boss Chick movement was created to empower women and mobilize female entrepreneurs into greatness. With the height of social media, I feel the movement has been lost. It's now illustrated as a aspirational lifestyle of VIP sections and Louboutins.

(00:00):
Hi, hope you're doing well. This is Janelle with how to make Glitter.
I want to share something with youall, and I'm thinking about for
quite a bit of time because it'sbecome this huge movement in social media and
there's all types of activations erecting aroundit. And I look at this movement

(00:25):
and although I believe that in itsconception it was meant to be something extremely
positive and uplifting, I find thatnow it's kind of in the same vein
of when Mark Twain, I believeit was Mark Twain said that if Jesus
would come back, the one thinghe wouldn't be is a Christian. I

(00:47):
think that this term boss chick haskind of taken a different persona, and
for me, when I look atit, I find it very concerning that
now we have these movement, thismovement of women that their goal and aspiration
in life is to be a bosschick. Yes, my hands are raising

(01:10):
and my neck is worming because Ifeel like maybe what it was originally meant
to be has been lost. Inmy eyes, I remember seeing like little
memes and you know, initially Ifelt like it was really positive, but
now it's just kind of like allabout this lifestyle and getting this and getting

(01:33):
that and kind of being above andso I just want to make sure that
you know, as we maneuver throughlife, weep, we're keeping things into
perspective. You know, I myselfhave to deal heavily in social media,
and we cannot act like these thingsdo not influence us. We can't act
like these things don't influence our decisionsand even our purchases. So I feel

(01:57):
like I just wanted to kind ofshare this with you all. This is
in no way directly attacking anyone. You know, if you have a you
know, a really great movement ofuplifting women, I'm all about that.
I just feel that, in myeyes, the movement has been lost,
and now we women are aspiring tobe this ideal of something that is so

(02:25):
far from maybe what it was originallyintended, and so far from them and
maybe even what they've been called todo. So this is the death of
a boss chick. So this isseven reasons why you shouldn't want to be

(02:46):
a boss chick. The first isreceipt counting. I find that when you
put on any title, it's thenup for scrutiny, and it's up for
attack, saying you're a boss chickmakes people want to count and see the

(03:07):
receipts of you being a boss chick. And quite honestly, a lot of
the posts I see are from peoplewho I absolutely know don't maybe have the
receipts of what I think a bosschick would be. And then that all
goes back to definition, like weall are defining, like what that boss

(03:28):
chick means. And when you seesomebody take on that type of persona,
then in our humanity we begin to, you know, say, is this
real? How real is this? How authentic is this? And I think
that it puts you in a placeof an unfair disadvantage because we should not

(03:52):
be counting anyone's receipts. We shouldnot be comparing. Um. We are
called to be our best selves, not anything else, but that the comparing
and the contrasting of things and obtainingworldly goods should not be the focus.

(04:13):
You know, I don't. Idon't see anybody comparing their prayer life or
their spiritual growth, Like it's allabout comparing money and shoes and houses and
things like that, and that isnot where our focus should lie. You
know, those goods are a manifestationof you walking in your purpose, and
I feel like that messaging has beenlost in this kind of mode of the

(04:38):
boss chick. And I think receiptcounting is very unhealthy one because it as
you focus on on somebody else's thingswhen you need to be focusing on your
purpose in your alignment, until it'snone of your your business what they have
and what they don't have. Youknow, it's not up to you to
decide, you know, is thisperson offense? Tick? Is this person

(05:00):
and off? Because it should notaffect your walk and the next kind of
level in your life, and youcan't allow it to do so. So
number one is receipt counting, likedoes she have it? Does she not
have it, doesn't matter, doesn'taffect you, doesn't have anything to do
with you. Number two, Ifeel like the movement is a movement about

(05:26):
conformity. You know, the Biblesays, do not be conformed to the
pattern of this world. It's aboutbeing like somebody else. I want to
be a ball, so I gottahave this. I gotta have that.
I'm gonna be like her because Iwant to be a boss just like her.
Be your own boss, be yourown person. Be your own best

(05:48):
version of yourself. You are soimpeccably and wonderfully made. You weren't designed
to be like anyone else. Youweren't designed to fit in this box of
something. You weren't designed to fitin this box of I'm a boss,
I'm a chick. I'm at this, I'm at that you were put.

(06:11):
You were designed to be perfectly you. I'm not saying that you can't take
on some of the positive characteristics ofsomeone who is successful in business. I
think that's very important. I thinkthat, you know, looking at someone's
life and saying, yeah, theseare things that I can take into my

(06:32):
realm and make allow them to helpme be a better me. But when
you're conforming to this persona of whatyou think you should be, instead of
being who you are, instead ofknowing who you are and becoming the best
of that, then you've just conformed, and you've just become like everybody else,

(06:53):
so far from your purpose, sofar from your alignment, so far
and from your destiny, that youare totally leading, completely out of focus.
Do not conform, don't conform toanything you know, focus on being
the best you. Number three isI feel as if the boss chick movement

(07:14):
is not a movement that is serviceoriented. It is a movement about gratification.
You know, when David went togo fight Goliath, he didn't go
to slay. He went to serve. He went to go serve his brothers
from his father's direction and directive. He didn't go to go into battle.

(07:36):
He went to serve. We've lostthe element of serving because we want to
be We want to be the victor, we want to slay, we want
to do all these things. Wewant to be on this we want to
be the leader, we want tobe the boss. But in service,
you know, we can then putourselves in position to receive our greatest blessing.

(08:03):
We have to remember that we're calledto serve. You know, God
will position us where we need tobe for our level in life, for
our for our status in life.We don't have to push our way through
that number four. I feel thatthere is an air of arrogance. I

(08:28):
am better than you. I am. I am a boss chick. I
am And it's just like, okay, well, if you are something,
you don't have to tell anybody. They'll tell you. You know, you
don't you don't have to make anyaffirmations. Your works will speak for themselves.

(08:54):
There's no need to be arrogant. We're called to be humble. We're
called to again walk in purpose, walk in service. We're not called to
think we're better than anyone. We'renot called to make anyone feel lesser than
we are. We're called to bringone another up. You know, we're

(09:16):
not called to apply separation. Youknow there you when you're sewing, you
have to be sure that there's noair of arrogance, that that will cloud
judgment, that will cloud your path, that will cloud your way. You
can't allow that air to dim yoursight on what's what your next steps are.

(09:46):
Number five, It is a movementof self absorption and exalting yourself.
You know, the Bible says aman's gifts will make room for him.
You do not have to put yourselfon a pedestal. You do not have
to. There's a difference from affirmationand putting yourself on a pedestal. Again

(10:11):
with the arrogance, again with thehumility, again with being of service.
You don't have to pedestal yourself.God will pedestal you. God will put
you in position. You don't haveto be self so self absorbed that it's
all about you. It's not aboutyou, it's not about you at all.

(10:33):
It's about your purpose and that isthat is that's been instilled in you,
that's been something that you've been blessedwith. You don't have to make
yourself visible. You don't have tomake yourself fire. That's not for you
to do. It's not your jobto put yourself in position. It's God
shop to put yourself in position.Put you in posession, and he will

(10:56):
do that. You have to trusthim to do that. You know,
you don't have to go in aroom and try to impress people or make
yourself greater than That's not what you'recalled to do. You're called to be
humble, You're called to be open, You're called to be ready, and
when you do that, then naturallyand divinely, you will be in the

(11:18):
perfect alignment, in a perfect position. The next thing is it is a
movement of paper chasing. I alwaystell entrepreneurs that I coach is you do
not have to chase your provision.Your provision will chase you. You do
not have to run after money.Money will find you. It's there is

(11:43):
this obsession with money. And Iknow that without money, life is hard.
I know that as adults we havefinancial obligations. And I am in
no way, shape or form sayingthat money is not important. Money.
It's very important and necessary in thislife, but you cannot be ruled by

(12:03):
it and you cannot allow it tochase you. Excuse me for you to
chase it. It's this paper chasing, and it's paper chasing to have things
to show other people, to sublidifyyour title of being a boss chick.
No, it's not about to greateryour community. It's not about to inform

(12:26):
and educate. It's not about toserve. It's not about to help others.
It's about self. It's about havingto have, It's about having to
impress. Paper chasing is grueling andit's tiring because you will always be on
that hustle of chasing that dollar, and I am here to tell you you

(12:50):
it will wear you out. Youdon't have to chase your provision. All
you have to do is walk inpurpose. All you have to do is
serve, and the provision will chaseyou. You won't. You will not
have room enough to receive the blessingsof God. Number seven I feel like

(13:13):
it is not associated with a godlylifestyle. When I see it, and
this is how I see it.This doesn't mean that this is what it
is across the board. When Isee it, it's about being in the
club and being bent over and beingpopping bottles and being up under basketball players

(13:35):
and being you know, and youknow, I guess God wants you to
have a good time. Praise God. Amen. But it's not about a
godly lifestyle. It's about showboating andagain exalting and the personification of having it

(13:58):
and impressing people and covetedness, andin comparison, it's it has been illustrated
of everything God would not have usto be. It's not about humility.
It's not about service. It's notabout love. It's not about purpose.

(14:24):
It's about showing that I have it. I'm better than you, I have
more than you. I'm doing it. I'm this, I I I I
So much of you, so littleof God, so much of you,
so little of your purpose, somuch of you, so little of your
passion, so much of you,so little of your alignment, so much
of you. There's no room foranything else. And when you take on

(14:50):
the yoke of you. You willfail. You cannot take it on all
by yourself. It's it's not foryou. You are created being. You
are created for a purpose, andwhen you take on that to define it
for yourself, it can be avery troubling path because you're not looking at

(15:13):
your divine blueprint for what God wouldhave for your life. You're looking at
what you would have for your life. We make plans and God laughs,
and sometimes in his permissive will heallows us to do things just because we
want to do them so bad andwe have to go back to his perfect

(15:33):
will and say, okay, Lord, that didn't how I'm doing it.
It didn't work out, so I'mgoing to have to do it how you
wanted me to do it, andin his divine grace he allows us back.
So I appreciate the boss chick movementin a sense of entrepreneurship. I

(15:54):
think the element of its origin mayhave been lost. We've turned it into
this lifestyle brand of unfounded nothingness,of sharing a lifestyle that we've made it.

(16:14):
When we don't have to share thelifestyle at all, our efforts,
our passions, our purposes, ourworks will speak for themselves. We don't
need to put it on social media. We don't need to share it in
a way that we're not able togive God glory. I believe he wants
us to share the blessings that Hehas for us, but I think it

(16:37):
needs to be in in a veryauthentic way, in a way that gives
God glory. To let people knowthat I'm a boss chick. But I
didn't make it here by myself. It's nothing but the goodness and glory of
God. It's nothing but His gracethat I've made it. It's nothing but
God's grace that I am not whoI used to be, that I have
more than I have ever had. It's not about you, It's about God.

(17:03):
And I know the boss check movementwas never supposed to be about God.
It was supposed to be, inmy eyes, about to, you
know, mobilize women to be entrepreneursand walk in their best light. But
I feel like it's been turned intothis urbanized community of Instagram socialization. Like

(17:33):
what the one thing I don't wantto be is a boss chick. I
don't want to be that. Iwant to work. I want to be
someone who walks in purpose. Iwant to be someone that God is that
people look at and saying, Wow, God is really doing something amazing in
her. What do I need todo so that I can tap into what

(17:56):
God has for me. That's beinga boss, that's leadership, not or
receipt counting, not conformity so Ican be like someone else. Not serving
your woman and your fellow man,not having arrogance, not being self absorbed,

(18:18):
not paper chasing, and being associatedwith something that is of God.
I hope you guys are having anamazing day. Thank you for sharing this
time with me. I'm wishing youto be your very best self because you
are enough and this is how youmake glitter
