(00:07):
Hello, how are you guys doingtoday? I'm getting phone calls while I
am trying to talk to you guys. Hi. UM, I am exhausted,
um so. I know you guysare all busy, so hi UM
so, I thank you guys fortaking this opportunity UM to share this time

(00:30):
with me and to um hi screeum to log into the UM to the
periscope. UM. I always havelike this big fear that I don't have
enough data to save the video.UM, so I'm gonna try to go
as quickly as possible. UM.As a note, UH, this will

(00:54):
go on the replay on our UMon my website how to make glitter dot
com. UM. If you don'tknow what how to make glitter is high
from Paris, definitely check it outhow to make glitter dot Com. It
is where I encourage the Christian entrepreneurand the people who are trying to align

(01:15):
their passion and their purpose. SoI hope that it encourages you. I
hope that it inspires you. WhenI do the replay on the website,
it'll actually be in broadcast form.I'm not going to put the video on
there, so for the people whoare now listening to it via broadcast form.

(01:37):
This was a live periscope, soI will, you know, occasionally
stop to kind of read the commentsand respond to those. So, oh
my goodness, we have people fromall over the place logging in, so
thank you so much. So whatwe're talking about today is why you haven't
quit your day job. I thinkthat there comes up point when you're an

(02:00):
entrepreneur or you're trying to get aidea off the ground, and you are
battling with your day job and youknow how you're going to meet your obligations
and just still feed your passion andwhat you're most excited about. And I

(02:20):
think that what you should understand isthere's going to come a point where you're
gonna have to kind of make thosesacrifices. And I think that the same
practices that are going to have yoube successful in business are the same things
that you actually need to apply tohave the wherewithal to quit your job and

(02:47):
have that faith to quit your job, because what it really is is a
faith walk. You have to believethat you can do it, that you
are able to sustain business, andthat you can earn a livable wage.

(03:09):
As our President Obama likes to sayon your passion. One thing that I
always say is you don't have tochase prosperity or the provision. The provision
will follow you. UM. Aslong as your passions M and your purpose
are aligning, those things will comein perfect order. So you have to

(03:34):
trust that. UM. So asa disclaimer, I want to say,
I'm not suggesting that you quit yourjob because you cannot come live with me.
I do not have enough stakes,UM, But I think it's important
for you to examine why you haven'tbeen able to do that. UM.
Everybody is not meant to be anentrepreneur, and I think that's a very
real conversation that you need to havewith yourself and what you want your company

(03:55):
to look like. If you wantmultiple partners, if you're gonna be a
founder of a company, and orif you just want to kind of scale
and sell. I think it's importantto examine that because we all need employees.
Everybody can't be an entrepreneur. ButI think for those special group of

(04:15):
people that have an idea and havesomething that they want a birth, I
think you have to really examine whatyour passion is and what it's going to
take for you to do your businessfull time, because that's really, really
really important. I think that whenyou find your why, it will lead

(04:44):
you to everything else I started.I'm a self taught publicist. I have
a chemical degree, and I alwaystell people that if I can do it,
anybody can do it. I'm selftaught. I really didn't have a
lot of family support. They didn'tquite know what I was doing or what
I did. UM. I didn'thave a say things that I, you

(05:09):
know, could tap into. Idid it just on pure talent, UM
and just the drive to kind ofmove forward. UM. So if I
can do it, you can doit. But you have to have the
tenacity and the stick to witness thatit's going to take to to work full

(05:30):
time. UM. So let's examineyour wise. Well, here are some
of the things that you tell yourself, the reasons why you can't do it,
um, and those things you reallyneed to turn into an affirmative.
UM. This whole topic is reallybased on a conversation with a really good
friend of mine who I've been tryingto get him to kind of step out

(05:53):
on faith and um and and anddo his business or do his dream time.
And he kind of gets in thiswhirldwin of self doubt and unhappiness just
because he has the struggle of Iwant to do this, but I can't
because I'm at work or this orwhat have you. So I just kind

(06:16):
of want to go over the thingsthat we tell ourselves and how to combat
them. The first thing people sayis I don't have enough money saved,
And I think that's a very realthing. I think as an entrepreneur,
you want to have a specific amountsaved to kind of be your nest egg

(06:44):
for that. And I will tellyou that if you are waiting to have
this great amount of money in yourhead saved, that something will always come
up. There will be a familyor emergency, you will have to you
know, something will ensure it willcome for the house, or you know

(07:04):
you have to, something will needto get fixed on the car. There
will always be something that needs yourattention. Financially. I'm gonna tell you,
don't worry about that, Like, honestly, don't worry about that.

(07:26):
You can say I want twenty thousanddollars saved, and you get that twenty
thousand dollars and then you'll get abill the next day. That's nineteen,
nine hundred and ninety nine. Ipromise you because it's the requirement is a
faith walk. And if you're waitingfor this perfect kind of scheme of circumstances,

(07:47):
of this euphoric kind of place settingto happen for you, it's not
gonna happen. It will not happenbecause there will always be something to make
you be aid because this is yourinternal conflict telling you something you want to
do and something that you're fearful ofdoing. So don't be afraid, just

(08:09):
do it. I think the nextthing is dependency. I think people seem
to think that their job is asafety net, and especially if you're You're
in the US, and we havea lot of at will states, which
means that if you are in astate, a job can fire you for

(08:30):
no reason. They don't have tohave a they don't have to have a
specific reason. They can just saywe no longer want you to work for
us and kind of send you onyour way. And I've I've worked jobs.
I actually have chemist agree. Iworked in healthcare before starting my business,
and I never really found security inany type of job because I knew

(08:52):
that at any time they could fireme. You know, I have seen
healthcare systems closed overnight. I've seenpeople go to their business the next day
and they'll be locks on the doors, And I think it's it's troubling to
have a dependency on something that youare not deeply rooted in. I think

(09:16):
that's very dangerous. I think ittakes away your power. And I think
that as an entrepreneur, your poweris all that you have. Your power
is going to push you through tothe next level. So I don't want
you to be paranoid saying, ohmy god, I'm gonna lose my job
tomorrow. But I just want youto have a realistic approach to what that
job actually is. We want tobe grateful for the positions that you have

(09:37):
that are allowing you to meet yourobligations right now. But I think that
it's important to examine your dependency onsomething that has absolutely nothing to do with
you, and something that's quite honestlyout of your power. Do you have
faith in yourself? Do you reallybelieve that you can do this? I

(09:58):
think that you within yourself have toknow that you can do this, that
you can succeed, that you havethe wherewithal to earn it income independent of
anyone else. I think that's important. I think that it's a motivation.
I think it's a confidence builder,and I think that it's something that you

(10:20):
absolutely have to prove to yourself becausean entrepreneurship, there's going to be sometimes
where it gets really tough, andyou're gonna need kind of your core values
in your core skill set to kindof push you through to some of those
rougher patches, because you are goingto be what sustains you. So it's

(10:41):
important to make sure that you havefaith in yourself, and I think that
it's something you need to prove toyourself. I think that a lot of
people's kind of scare influences is thatthey're not sure if they can really do
it. They may not really believein their skill set, they may not
really believe in their vision. AndI think you got to get real clear

(11:03):
about that, because if you don'tbelieve in it, if you can't go
one hundred percent for it, nobodyelse will subscribe to that. So be
fearless in it. You know, this is this is really about being fearless
and trusting yourself and trusting your intuitions. And again that's easier when things align,

(11:24):
but you really have to do someself examination about what you're really doing.
Let's see. I think one ofthe biggest things that people are afraid
of is Derek's afraid of losing someluxuries as a business owner. I've been
this is my tenth year with SweetPublic Relations. We originally weren't irb a

(11:48):
Sweet Entertainment. I was never afraidto not have some luxuries. And what
I mean by that is so concernedwith whatever car was driving or didn't drive
or couldn't drive. Wasn't concerned withwhat home I necessarily had um and those

(12:13):
are big, lush luxuries. Andand I'm not saying not have a roof
over your hair. I'm just sayinghaving the big pithouse condo and all of
those things that I had it before. You can't be afraid to lose those
things. You have to be ableto make some sacrifices. You're you are
going to have to sacrifice in businessperiod. It may be you know,
sacrificing a project or a plan,or sleep or time or whatever. So

(12:39):
if you can't sacrifice before you becomea full time entrepreneur, you will not
be ready to sacrifice when you arewhen you do become one. So I
think you have to have those sacrificesand be prepared to live without some luxuries.
In your story maybe that you don'thave to live without any luxuries.
But I my suggestion to you andwhat I offer to you is don't be

(13:05):
so clingy to some of these worldlyand earthly possessions. They will not serve
you in the future. And youhave to be able to kind of let
some things, let some things goso that some other things can open up
for you. I think you needto be clear about the vision for yourself

(13:26):
and be clear about kind of whatwhat could happen, what's the worst that
could happen, you know, andkind of check those realities and kind of
have a mental toughness and a planfor that, Well, if this happens,
then here's what my plan is.And to be fearless, and that

(13:46):
sometimes we're not prepared for the worstcase scenario. I have that really bad
I'm always planning for the worst casescenario instead of planning for the best case
scenario. And that some thing thatI have to work on within myself to
just really really really exute positive energy, and that would definitely change your outcome.

(14:09):
But you really need to ask yourself, what's the worst can happen?
Like, if things don't work out, you quit your job, then you
can get another job. You knowhow to get a job. You still
have a resume. Don't be afraid. You know, the worst thing that
could happen is that you may haveto downsize, or you may have to
stay with a friend. These thingsdon't have to be bad things, but

(14:31):
you need to make sure that youhave You need to make sure it's worth
something. You don't want these badthings to happen to you or some of
these unfortunate circumstances that it's not worthanything. So you got to make sure
that through some of the more challengingtimes that you're still working, that you're
still staying focused, that you're stillstaying steadfast. To make sure that you
know some of these circumstances. Excuseme, some of these circumstances will definitely

(14:58):
benefit you and strengthen you for thenext level of your business. I think
the last thing is really having aclear definition of do you really want it,
and I mean really really want it. I think sometimes especially in this
pop culture that we live in today, we want these kind of microwavable lifestyles,

(15:22):
and we want the shoes and thecars and the bags and the houses
in the you know all of that. And I think that type of superficial
programming is a little dangerous, especiallyto an entrepreneur, because we're always working
and we have to make sure thatwe're clear about what our motivations are.

(15:43):
I think you have to be clearthat you really want it. You want
it at all costs. You knowwhat those costs are going to be.
You've examined what those costs are,and that it's something that you're so passionate
about that you are willing to takethat journey and let the universe just kind
of open up and support you inthat. But you have to want it.

(16:10):
You can't halfway want it, youcan't sideways want it. You have
to really want it because that iswhat's going to push you through and elevate
you to the next level. Andyou know, not for nothing. I
have had times where I have workeda full time job and by the time
I get home, you are absolutelyexhausted, and so it's so hard to

(16:33):
kind of sew into yourself after you'vesewn into someone else all day long,
and it's not fair to you.You know, what's in the cup is
for you, what feels over isfor everybody else. So you really need
to be clear about if you reallywant it, because until you really really
want it and there's nothing else yourather do, you're not going to be

(16:57):
ready to leave that job. Ialways say like I couldn't. I was
tired of working a job because Iwas started of getting up at eight o'clock
being you know, being somewhere ateight o'clock. And I just had a
really big issue with making someone elserich where I could so into myself and
gain wealth for myself and also kindof feed my own soul and help other

(17:19):
people. So again, clarity isa big key to this entrepreneurship thing,
as well as kind of aligning yourpassion and your purpose and making sure that
what you do really is gonna makesense. So I have homework for you,
guys. Your homework is this,I want to write down five tangible

(17:40):
things that will help you accomplish orwill help prepare you to quit your job.
And I want older, overarching, yet targeted things. So, for
example, I want to hire aconsultant to launch my site, and I
want to solidify my logo, orif you know, if you're really concerned

(18:03):
about the financial aspect, I wantto save fifteen thousand dollars by X amount
of date. So I want youto write five things, tangible things,
touchable things that you need to happenin order for you to quit your job.
And I want you to stick tothose things. So when those five
things are complete, it's time foryou to hand in your resignation. Now,
for each of those five things,I want you to write three things

(18:26):
that will help make that happen. So, for example, if your number
one is to hire a consultant, what are the three things that you need
to do to hire the consultant.I need to set meetings, I need
to research, I need to getrecommendations. Okay, so that's what your
LISTIA look like. So you shouldhave about fifteen things on this list.

(18:48):
Now your divine charge, because Ireally again, how to make glitter is
about aligning your purpose with your passion. Okay, So we have your worldly
homework and then you have your divinecharge. Okay, what your divine charge
is to reflect on your five characterflaws that you need to relinquish to move

(19:11):
forward in faith. Okay, Sois it self doubt? Is it covetousness,
is it jealousy? Because those things, if you're constantly looking at other
people and constantly wondering what other peoplehave, those things are going to be
challenging for you once you maneuver throughto business. So I want you to
and your worldly homework. You're goingto examine your business and your practices and

(19:36):
then your things need to do inyour divine charge. You need to examine
yourself and the things that you needto change so that opportunities can open up
for you. I hope you haveenjoyed this periscope. I really appreciate you
