Hey friends,

I don’t even know how to start this, so I’ll just say it: this is the final episode of This Organized Life.I’ve been sitting with this decision for a while now. Because how do you say goodbye to something that’s been such a huge part of your life? For eight years, this podcast has been more than just a place to talk about clutter and bins and systems (although we did plenty of that). It’s been my creative outlet, my therapy, my connection to all of you.

When I started this show, I never imagined it would turn into over 500 episodes, hundreds of guests, and a community of listeners who’ve stuck around through every pivot and season of life. You’ve heard me talk about business and motherhood, grief and growth, the Enneagram and emotional clutter. You’ve shown up for the conversations that were light and the ones that got real, and I’ll never be able to thank you enough for that.

But here’s the thing I’ve learned: just because something has been good doesn’t mean you’re meant to hold onto it forever. And as hard as it is to let this go, I know in my gut it’s time to make space for new ideas, new projects, and honestly for rest. That doesn’t mean I’m disappearing. I’m still working with clients, still writing, still renovating my little cottage in the Hamptons (which, if you follow me on Instagram, you already know is a whole thing). I’m just choosing to press pause on the part of my life that no longer feels in alignment, even though I love it dearly.

This isn’t a goodbye forever. It’s more like: see you in a new way, in a new space. If you’re on my email list or hanging out with me on Instagram, I promise I’ll still be showing up with coffee in hand, and probably talking about a closet or a junk drawer or what’s going on behind the scenes in life and business.

So thank you. Truly. Thank you for pressing play all these years, for letting me into your life, your homes and your hearts. I hope this podcast helped you feel a little less alone in the chaos and reminded you that being organized isn’t about perfection, it's about creating space for what matters.

With so much love and gratitude,
Laurie

Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to This Organized Life. If you're a mom, wife,
or coffee lover seeking advice on how to reduce clutter
and reclaim time, look no further than your host, Laurie Hellau,
Founder Simply Be Organized and author of hot Mess, a
practical guide to getting organized. For a lot of people,
clutter is their dirty little secret, but it doesn't have
to be. Each week, we will share practical tips, chat

(00:22):
with experts, and provide strategies on how to keep you organized.
I hope that by sharing our stories you feel a
little less alone and more empowered to tackle the areas
that are holding you back. So let's get started.

Speaker 2 (00:40):
Hi everybody, and welcome to today's episode of This Organized Life.
I'm your host, Lori Palau, and I am so happy
that you're here. Okay, guys, this is a really special episode.
It's a big episode for me because I have a
huge announcement and I'm going to just rip the band
aid right off and then dive into it. You guys,

(01:01):
I am going to be ending the podcast.

Speaker 3 (01:06):
So after eight years and over five.

Speaker 2 (01:11):
Hundred episodes between our Tip of the Weeks and our
regular episodes, the time has come for me to close
this chapter. And leave some space to see what's going
to be next. I've prepared some notes and talking points
like I do for all of our episodes, so you

(01:33):
might see me if you're watching this on YouTube, you
might see me glance down. But I really I wanted
this announcement and final episode to really be from the heart.
So hopefully I won't be rambling too much and it'll
be succinct. But one thing that I have prided myself
on and hopefully has come through over the past eight

(01:55):
years is just being honest and authentic with you guys.
And I've let you into my world, both as a
business owner, as an entrepreneur, as a mom, as a wife,
and I am going to just give you a glimpse
into what's been going on behind the scenes and what's next,

(02:17):
and most importantly, what does this mean.

Speaker 3 (02:20):
For you, guys?

Speaker 2 (02:20):
Because although I'm sitting gear with the microphone, the show
has always been about you, and it's always been about
how can I support you wherever you are in your
journey of life, whether that is your journey to live
a more organized, less cluttered life, whether it is building

(02:42):
a business, whether it is learning a new tool or
just feeling like you're a little less alone in life.

Speaker 3 (02:52):
As women as mom's.

Speaker 2 (02:56):
Life is hard, and just knowing that there's some out
there that gets it or that you.

Speaker 3 (03:02):
Can relate to sometimes just makes things.

Speaker 2 (03:06):
A little bit a little bit easier, a little bit
more like I'm not going crazy. And I know for me,
as somebody who listens to a lot of shows, there
are podcasts that I listen to that kind of just
validate what I'm going through. And I hope on some

(03:26):
level our show has been that for you. I hope
wherever that is, whether it's even just bringing you some
light and laughter, giving you a tip a strategy, or
maybe it's one of our guests. I've had the privilege
to sit down with some of my own personal.

Speaker 3 (03:46):
Like people I look up to.

Speaker 2 (03:48):
I don't want to call them heroes or idols, but
just people who I admire, people who I respect, people
like Gretchen Ruben and Mel Robbins and doctor John Deloney.
Those are just a couple of the people that I've
had the opportunity to sit with. I know there were
seasons of my life where I would binge listen to
Jen Hatmaker's podcast like every single week without fail, and

(04:11):
then when I had the opportunity to sit down with her.

Speaker 3 (04:14):
It was like a full circle moment.

Speaker 2 (04:16):
So selfishly, as much as these guests were like dropping
knowledge for you guys, I don't want you to think
that I wasn't also reaping the benefits, because without this
show and without you guys tuning in, that would not
be possible. And so I want to thank you guys

(04:38):
for inspiring me to keep going year after year. When
I started this show, I had no expectation. It was
literally just another way for me to connect with people,
because I feel that living an organized life, living without clutter,

(04:58):
living without the anxiet and shame that comes from clutter,
is a right that we all should have and there
should not necessarily be a barrier of entry.

Speaker 3 (05:11):
Right for people to be able.

Speaker 2 (05:12):
To have the tools in their toolbox to be able
to know what to do. And some of us are
born with the organizing gene. Some of us have a
really healthy, modeled behavior, but some of us don't. And
this is a learned skill. And I've always said that
if you have the will, if you have the buy in,

(05:33):
if this is something that you want to do, I
can give you the tools. Right you obviously have to
pick them up and practice and do the discipline. But
I can give you the roadmap, and that's what I've
tried to do. And just to bring you up to
speed of how this evolution has gotten.

Speaker 3 (05:49):
Me to this place.

Speaker 2 (05:51):
This decision to end the show after eight years was
not something that was done lately. This has been in
the talks for months, if not even like a year,
probably close to a year. We've started talking about what's next.
What do we still have to say that hasn't been
said before, How can we continue to bring you.

Speaker 3 (06:14):
Relevant information?

Speaker 2 (06:16):
And I sat down with my team, I sat down
with my therapist, and I also prayed a lot about
it of what's the next step? What is the next
right step? And the answer is I don't know. And
I'm sharing this with you because so much of what

(06:39):
we do in life, especially when it comes to decluttering
parts of our lives, whether that is the physical stuff,
whether that is relationships, whether that's calendar clutter, whether that's
a career.

Speaker 3 (06:52):
Change, it is scary and we have that.

Speaker 2 (06:57):
Little voice in the back of our minds and our
brains saying, are you.

Speaker 3 (07:03):
Sure this is the right move?

Speaker 2 (07:05):
And I'm here to tell you I don't know I've
because this has been something that we've been milling about
and trying to figure out when is the air quote
right time for this.

Speaker 3 (07:17):
I will say I have a really.

Speaker 2 (07:21):
Sense like a sense of peace, a sense of calm,
and I feel in my heart of hearts that this
is the right time for us to end the show.
We are going to be doing a best of series,
so just logistically, I am going to run you through
the summer with some of my favorite episodes, some of

(07:43):
your favorite episodes, and I hope that you use that
either as a refresher for an episode that you know
maybe was back in the archives, or if you are
newer to our show, maybe you haven't listened to this episode.
And I went through them myself and handpicked them from

(08:05):
all of our episodes, so I hope that you enjoy them.
And I also want to be very clear that this
is not goodbye for me. I am not closing simply
be organized. It is going to change and evolve into
what I'm not entirely sure, but my mission has always
been about giving yourself space, giving yourself margin, and in

(08:32):
order for us to allow space and margin for new
things to come into our lives, whether that's in our homes,
whether that's in your closet, whether that is again in
your career. We have to put something, we have to
make room by, oftentimes getting rid of something else, whether

(08:53):
that means getting rid of the stuffed animals and the
toys for a new influx, whether that means emptying and
sorting through your closet, And in this case, for me,
it meant I need to put a period at the
end of this sentence. Does this mean I'm never going
to come back to podcasting. No, I'm not closing that door.

(09:15):
I love this medium, I think it is I love writing.
I will still be sending out emails. So again, that's
going to be a specific area that I'm going to
encourage you guys to sign up for.

Speaker 3 (09:27):
But there's nothing.

Speaker 2 (09:29):
Quite like having somebody in your ear every single week
that you can connect with, listen to laugh with, identify with.
And I think it lands differently than other mediums, and
that again has been I take that very seriously. And

(09:53):
the fact that you have chosen to carve out time
in your day to listen to my podcast in a
sea of all of their shows continues to.

Speaker 3 (10:03):
Really humble me.

Speaker 2 (10:05):
And so I hope that whether you were somebody that
was thinking about starting an organizing business that maybe did it,
or if you're somebody who struggles with ADHD, or you
have a child who struggles with ADHD, or maybe you
wanted to learn about the enneagram. I hope we've given
you what you are looking for. I hope that this

(10:25):
has been a good use of your time, and I
hope that you've learned something and had fun along the way,
because I know I have, and I used to. If
you've been with me for a long time, you might
remember I used to ask all of our guests what
book they're reading, loving a book that's maybe been really impactful,
and I want to share one with you guys today.

(10:48):
And I've over the years, have read a lot of books.

Speaker 3 (10:52):
I wouldn't say I'm a.

Speaker 2 (10:53):
Ferocious ferocious is that the right word reader, much like Josh,
but I do like to read. I'm all one of
those big memoir person self help, self discovery, all of
that stuff. So I like to learn when I'm going
And one of my favorite books, which I actually just reread,

(11:14):
is this book Necessary Endings by doctor Henry Cloud.

Speaker 3 (11:19):
And I went back.

Speaker 2 (11:21):
When I knew that we finally made the decision that
we were going to be ending the show, and I
wanted to reread it to help give myself some words
of encouragement as well as just get some additional perspective.

Speaker 3 (11:37):
And it just reinforced that I'm doing the right thing.

Speaker 2 (11:41):
And I hope that you can use what I'm about
to say and apply it in your own life, in
whatever season you're in.

Speaker 3 (11:49):
In the book, Doctor Cloud talks a lot about.

Speaker 2 (11:53):
Pruning and things that we need to prune in our lives,
and whether that's in your business, about pruning a a
business venture that maybe isn't as successful as you wanted.
Maybe it means pruning your rose gardens so that new
buds can grow, whether it means again the editing of

(12:18):
stuff in your life, which is what we talk about.
And I want to leave space for this next chapter.
When I started this, when I started my business, my
kids were in six and nine. They're now twenty one
and twenty four. That's been fifteen years, and through those
fifteen years and the evolution simply be organized. I've checked

(12:44):
a lot of boxes, and some of those have been
like personal milestones, like writing a book, and some of
them have just been things that I've just stepped into
by happenstance, and I've turned into these amazing opportunities like
the clutter clinic and business mentoring and even this show,
Like these are not things that I ever set out

(13:05):
to do, but they just organically evolved. And I think
they were able to evolve and happen because I allowed
there to be margin and space in my life for
new things to come in. And I want to create
that now as I'm entering this new season. My young
guest Logan, who you guys might remember. She's actually the
voice of our introduction. For those of you knows don't

(13:28):
fast forward through it, She's a voice of our intro.
She's been a guest on my show a couple of times,
and she just graduated college. And I, as a mom,
spent so many years on the treadmill. I prioritized my
kids and work was on the back burner. And then
my kids got more independent and I was able to

(13:48):
prioritize work a little bit more as they became more independent.
And then once my kids, once I became an empty nester,
I really leaned in heavy to my work.

Speaker 3 (13:58):
And part of that, in.

Speaker 2 (14:02):
The spirit of self discovery, was probably as a replacement
for that void of not being so busy with my kids,
not running around from activity to activity, and just filling
that time with something else that had meeting. And I've

(14:22):
been going NonStop, and I have the opportunity now to
pump the brakes a little bit again, not come to
a stop, but maybe just hit pause and say, I
need to prune some things in my life, my person
in my business in order to.

Speaker 3 (14:45):
Allow me to see what's going to be next on
the horizon.

Speaker 2 (14:49):
If you follow us on or follow me personally on
social media, and I think we've been sharing it on
the simply the organized page, but if you follow me
on social media, you know that we recently, like six
eight months ago, bought a cottage in the Hamptons and
I've been renovating it and it's been something that I

(15:13):
It was a bucketless stream and I cannot even believe
that I'm able to turn it into a reality. And
one of the things that I'm learning from this experience
is I love the process.

Speaker 3 (15:26):
I love the.

Speaker 2 (15:26):
Process of planning and executing. I love thinking about how
to organize this space so that it functions but is
cozy and warm. And I'm taking a different approach because
it is not our primary residence, so the things that
I'm doing, the details that i'm adding might not be

(15:49):
things that I would have incorporated.

Speaker 3 (15:52):
In my primary home.

Speaker 2 (15:55):
But I'm loving it and I'm loving sharing all of
this with you because it's real and it's a part
of my life that is fun and if you guys
want to come along for the ride, I am here
for it. We're also getting this place ready so that
we can share it with other people, whether that's through

(16:16):
Airbnb or longer other rental opportunities. I really want to
have this space be something that other people can enjoy.
And I'll tell you right now, and this may evolve,
but my vision for this right now is to be

(16:37):
able to rent this as a we'll call it a
girl's weekend retreat place, you know, where people can go
away from the hustle bustle of their life, from the
craziness of their kids, from the craziness of their job
or their spouses and just enjoy. And I'm really leaning

(16:59):
into this high hospitality side of organizing. So i don't
know what that's going to come into, but I'm just
putting that out there in the universe and I just
would love for you guys to come along.

Speaker 3 (17:12):
So even though I'm not going to.

Speaker 2 (17:13):
Be talking about it on a podcast, I will be
talking about on social media. I will be writing about
it in my emails. I want you to continue to
stay a part of our community here, and you can
do that again. In our show notes is a link
to subscribe to our emails. It is also a link

(17:35):
for social media. You can follow the Simply Be Organized page.
This is our business page, but my personal page is public,
and so I put it out there so that you
guys could see the good, the bed and the ugly.
Because we all know that life and social media is
filled with a lot of smoke and mirrors. And if

(17:58):
I can be a light of authenticity and honesty with y'all,
that's what I would like to be. I'm that friend
that Enneagraham eight, friend that if you want the honest truth,
you're going to come to me.

Speaker 3 (18:11):
If you want somebody to sugarcoat it.

Speaker 2 (18:14):
Probably not your gal. I'm going to be holding myself
to that same standard. And if I try something and
it doesn't work, you'll.

Speaker 3 (18:22):
See that too.

Speaker 2 (18:23):
So I hope that you will come with me on
this next adventure and again, it is my hope that
wherever you are, in whatever season of life you are in,
that you can take a breath and recognize that you're
probably doing the best you can. And we all measure

(18:49):
ourselves against other people, more than likely who are at
a different season of life than we're in. Whether that's again,
you're starting your business in somebody's three to five five
years in, or you are a new mom and you're
just trying to figure it all out and you're looking
at somebody that's got a couple kids and has their

(19:09):
systems down, pad or whatever the situation is, just acknowledge
where you are. And the other thing I want to
say before I wrap this up is, as somebody who
is like a forward thinker, right as my enneagram ate brain,
I'm always thinking about what's next, what's next, what's next.

(19:29):
I'm being really intentional about trying to enjoy the present.
And for a lot of my people, when they struggle
with clutter, what holds them back is either a tie
to the past and not wanting to let go of
something or projection about something that may happen in the future.

(19:54):
And when we can stop for a second and focus
in on where we are right now. A lot of
times that flips the switch and allows us to get
out of that paralysis and say this decision is what
is best for me right now. And I've always felt

(20:15):
a little selfish approaching things like that. I don't know
if it's a mom thing, I don't know if it's
a personal thing. But I am unapologetically here to tell
you that you don't have to look at making it
making a decision.

Speaker 3 (20:33):
For you as being selfish.

Speaker 2 (20:35):
And I hope that I'm not leaving you guys in
the lurch again. I'm not going anywhere. If you need me,
I am an email away, I'm a DM away, and
I hope you'll follow along with what is next and
keep me posted with what's going on in your world,
because this has been an incredible gift and privilege to

(20:57):
be able to chat with you guys, guys each and
every week over the past eight years. So until we
meet again, my friends, I'm Lori Palou, peace out.

Speaker 3 (21:07):
Thanks for tuning in.
