Tony Diaz talks to Rich Rodriguez, John Segovia, Rio Red Sky regarding the Raise the Vote Art Festival which is set for October 1st, 2022 in Houston's Second Ward at Segovia Art Studio. The Raise the Vote Art Festival combines the artistry of our young dynamic performers in Houston, such as Rio Red Sky, with the importance of voter awareness and encouraging young voter participation. To further illustrate the point of boosting our young artists, the Festival is holding an open commission (art contest) for any art on any medium that inspires folks to vote! Rich Rodriguez is an established dealmaker in Houston, TX. His expertise in Economic Development and the Arts has helped revitalize Southwest Houston. Mr. Rodriguez served as Executive Director of Harris County Improvement District # 5 and the Southwest Houston Redevelopment Authority (TIRZ 20). He is a 12-year veteran of the U.S. Air force where he worked in U.S. Space Command on the Minuteman III ICBM weapon system. Mr. Rodriguez is the former Principal Cellist for the Fort Bend Symphony and founded the 1st Chicano Art gallery with his cousin Jesse “Magnolia Grown” Rodriguez in Magnolia Park. He has had a diverse career over the years and has now homed in his experience and skills set in affordable housing to take the lead position as Housing Director for the Tejano Center for Community Concerns. Richard holds an undergraduate degree from New York University and an MBA from Touro College.
John Segovia is an painter, designer, photographer, poet and portrait artist. Segovia’s main creative influences stems from Abstract Expressionism to Mid-century Modern Art. Segovia’s an old soul and as a young teen fell in love with Fauvism and Expressionism by the art master himself, Pablo Picasso. Then shortly after he was introduced to the surreal works of Salvador Dali which expanded the possibilities of paint on canvas. And finally, he was blown away with the commercial works of Andy Warhol. Born in Houston, Texas to a modest middle-class working family, from an early age he displayed a talent for drawing portraits and began entering local school competitions at the age of 16. With so much talent to give unfortunately, he put the pencil down at 18 and tried to find himself and pursue other aspirations.
Rio Red Sky is a Musician/Influencer in Houston, TX who created her platform on being genuine, promoting self love, and inspiring others. Music is rooted from genres in R&B, Pop, and HipHop. She aspires to educate others through her mission of positivity and give people an outlet to vibe to her music.
