On a tous nos petites manies. La porte de la chambre bien fermée. Les pieds rangés sous la couette. Une veilleuse au loin. À chacun sa façon de se protéger des monstres de la nuit, ceux qui attendent malicieusement sous le lit ou dans un placard dont on aurait laissé la porte entrouverte. On craint la nuit, et le repos ne vient qu’après tous nos rituels.
Les monstres, Clémence n’y croit pas. Pas plus qu’aux vampires, aux sorcières, aux fantômes, à l’astrologie ou à la vie après la mort. En tout cas, elle n’y croit pas quand il fait jour.
