(00:43):
Welcome to Transmissions Alt Mode,
the podcast that can barely
comprehend all the
components of the
Transformers Comics Compendium.
I'm your host, Charles, a.k.a.
Big C,
and I'm joined by the excellent
transmissions team.
Jeremy, a.k.a.
Yakko.
I'm glad that you had to say
all that and not me.
How's it going?

(01:06):
And Daryl, the Cybertronian beast.
Hi.
Let's talk Transformers.
Going for the minimalist approach, Daryl.
yeah we seem like we're
going to talk about a lot
of book stuff tonight you

(01:28):
don't go in for that
reading junk I'm not here
for all that reading you
don't do the reading book reading yeah
All right.
Well, as always,
we start off the show by
thanking our Donatrions,
those lovely people who
support us on Patreon and PayPal.
Thank you all so much for
continuing to contribute to

(01:49):
the show and help keep us going.
We really appreciate it.
If you are not a Donatron
and would like to become one,
just go to
transmissionspodcast.com slash supports.
That's where you can sign up
and you can get all those perks,
all that bonus content,
all those extra goodies by
becoming a transmissions Donatrion.

(02:10):
So speaking of bonus content,
we've got all the episodes
of our bonus show, We Like Big Bots,
on our Patreon page.
There's fourteen episodes.
Each episode deals with a
different bot from Daryl
and Dr. Pants' collections.
And you can see all their
bots on display in each episode.
So check out all those We
Like Big Bot episodes and

(02:34):
harass Daryl and Dr. Pants for more.
Really terrible chance to get.
It's not necessary.
Oh, it is.
I think it is.
All right.
We've also got our
Transformers Live Play RPG podcast,
Empire of Rust.

(02:55):
This week is part one of
episode one thirty three, High Society,
Low Standing.
And that's available for
everyone at
transmissionspodcast.com slash rust.
Next week on April twenty first,
we'll get part two of
episode one thirty three.
And Donatrons will also get
the bonus episode of

(03:16):
episode one thirty four.
So that'll be out this coming Monday.
So all Donatrons get that bonus episode,
but everyone else gets a
part two of episode
one-thirty-three in the free feed.
So stay tuned for that next
week and enjoy Empire of Rust.
We've also got our Skybound

(03:37):
Transformers number one
comic that's available on
our website at
transmissionspodcast.com slash comic.
This is a commission cover
with artwork by EJ Su.
This is our exclusive cover
for Transformers number one
from Skybound.
So you can only get that
from us here at regular
price at

(03:58):
transmissionspodcast.com slash comic.
If you are buying your
labels at toyhax.com,
use our code BUNNYBOT to
get fifteen percent off
everything at toyhax.com
throughout the month of April.
So use that code BUNNYBOT on
every time you check out at

(04:19):
toyhax.com and you will
get that fifteen percent off.
Please take advantage of that.
And that helps out the show as well.
So remember that code BUNNYBOT,
fifteen percent off all
your purchases at toyhax.com.
And we've got some special
announcements just for this week.
We had the B plus team,

(04:40):
and that was Mike and Dr.
Pants doing a special
interview for a
transmissions alt mode
special with Zero and Ozzy,
and they are continuing the
Transformers trading card game online.
So you can listen to that
episode that came out last week.
It's already in our main
feed of the podcast,
so you should have actually

(05:01):
already seen it already.
But, you know,
if you didn't get a chance to listen,
go back and listen to that
episode and hear all about
the continuation of the
Transformers trading card
game after Hasbro sadly
abandoned it a few years ago.
But it has not died and
continues to live on.

(05:21):
Also a little bit of
shameless shelf promotion.
I will be on the Play Comics
podcast that talking about
the intersection of video
games and comic properties.
So Chris had me on to talk
about Transformers Armada,
the two thousand four
PlayStation two game.

(05:42):
It is just called Transformers,
but it's really a
Transformers Armada game.
So we talked about that and
that will be up on
april twenty seventh so
should be next week next
sunday you will be able to
hear me talking about
transformers on the
playstation two and how it
related to transformers
armada the cartoon that was
out at the time uh also

(06:03):
we'll talk a little bit
about the comic series
because you know I always
have to push transformers
comics uh so we'll talk
about that and enjoy
listening to that and let
us know what you think
Let me guess.
You get to talk about Simon Furman.
So you're happy about that.
I didn't, I didn't talk too much about it,

(06:24):
but he,
he did write for the Transformers
Armada comic for Dreamwave.
That's why I said that.
I know, but yeah, you know,
it's always fun talking about Simon.
We might get to talk about it later.

(06:44):
All right.
Well,
let's get into the show and we're
going to start off talking
about some comics news.
right well it looks like
there will be another
reprint of the g-one
transformers manga uh this
is of course fight super

(07:06):
robot life form
transformers that is the
japanese title so it looks
like amazon japan is going
to have two volumes of the
complete edition and these
will be thirty three
thousand six hundred and
thirty yen which works out
to about twenty four dollars each
And they are supposed to release Friday,

(07:26):
April twenty fifth.
So this Friday.
Or next Friday.
Yeah, next Friday.
Sorry.
Yeah.
So these cover actually,
and these cover the same
content that was put out a
few years ago with the
three manga volumes.
I actually picked up those
volumes when they came out

(07:48):
back in twenty twenty.
So I have those here.
But this is another reprint
which puts all that content
into two volumes.
So I guess they're slightly bigger.
So if you missed out on the
previous content, you can pick these up.
I do not believe they are not colored,
I don't think.
So the original manga was

(08:08):
not colored and these are not colored.
The ones I have are
definitely not colored.
I have them as well.
So I would pick this up
again if they were colored,
but I don't want it again.
I know you do.
Well, I'm not buying these.
I think also these are the
original Japanese manga,

(08:30):
so these are not translated into English.
So yeah, I'm not picking these up.
The ones I have are
translated into English,
so I can actually read them.
But these ones I will not be picking up.
But if you're in Japan and
you speak Japanese and can read Japanese,
they're probably good for you.
All right, next, of course,

(08:52):
the big news last week was
Skybound's Transformers Compendium set.
So this is collecting the
entire Transformers US and
UK Marvel run from the
eighties in giant hardcover
collection sets.
This Kickstarter was funded,
you can see right there on the image,

(09:12):
it's funded in two minutes
from when the Kickstarter
campaign started.
Its original goal was forty
thousand dollars.
As we are recording this show,
it is currently at over two
and a half million dollars,
so way past its original
Kickstarter goal.
It has unlocked ten of its

(09:33):
stretch goals already,
and there are more stretch goals promised,
so you can get even past,
if you get even past this overall total,
there will be lots more stuff.
uh the the main uh
kickstarter has basically
two um two different sets
of uh of um rewards to give

(09:53):
out so one is a just a four
volumes of the transformers
us and uk compendium so
there's each each uh each set is two um
two volumes the us is one
set of two and then the uk
compendium is another set
of two volumes that
contains all the uk
specific stories so that's

(10:15):
one variant or you can get
uh another variant that is
the till all are one
compendium that basically
weaves in all the us and uk
stories into one single set
of volumes and that's four
volumes all together and
that's a much fancier set
there's more because the
that till all or one
compendium has an autobot

(10:37):
edition which is red and a
decepticon edition which is
purple so you can get that
then you can also get
add-ons where you can
combine that with the
digital variant so if you
want the digital variants
plus the actual physical
variants you can get those as well
You can get custom prints.
You can get some book plates.

(10:59):
But I think almost all the
book plates are sold out now.
That's a lot of stuff.
Tech spec cards, that's right.
So...
It's crazy.
I mean,
leave it to Skybound to figure out
a way to double dip on this
giant Compendium set.
So, you know,

(11:19):
if you really want to be a completionist,
you might feel like you
need to get both the
Autobot and the Decepticon
Compendium variants,
and the UK and US
Compendium variants included,
and the Talal R-I Compendium variants,
which is all the same
content reprinted over and over again.
But, you know,
Skybound likes their
alternate versions and alternate covers.

(11:40):
So if you can go all in and
pay nine hundred dollars to
get everything,
that's the that's the
Unicron Kickstarter reward.
If, you know, if you want to do that.
But yeah,
the so I was really excited for
this until I saw how they

(12:01):
were rolling it out, because, you know,
just
I do.
I would really go all in and
splurge for everything,
but that's just too crazy.
I can't do that.
Although I might go in and
get just one version of the
Talal or one compendium
with that big container box

(12:22):
and everything.
I might splurge for that.
That's still like,
A lot.
It's three hundred dollars.
Yeah.
Three hundred dollars.
Yeah.
That's that's a lot.
I for books.
I got that with the Grimlock
signed book plate.
Oh, wow.
Oh, wow.

(12:43):
OK.
Not that.
Oh, my gosh.
It's future.
Jeremy has to deal with that.
Good luck to him.
Yeah.
Um, yeah, I mean, it's, I, the,
the thing is,
the thing I struggle with of course, is I,
I, you know, I own all these books.
I collected the original comics.
I have all the original comics,

(13:04):
at least the U S run.
I don't have the entire UK run,
but I have all the original us comics.
Yeah.
I justify that as I don't.
And this is just a way I can
finally have them all.
Yeah.
But I mean, it is very tempting.

(13:25):
I mean,
for anyone who is a fan of
Transformers comics,
this is a really cool presentation here.
They do, of course,
shout out to all the authors here,
Simon Furman and Bob Budiansky.
They also,
I think Daniel Warren Johnson
did some artwork here.
They also got Jeff Senior
and Andrew Wildman to do artwork as well.

(13:47):
uh, for some of the, the extra rewards.
So, um, you know,
it's a lot of cool stuff.
Uh, it's just really, really expensive.
So, I mean, you can, you can, uh, you know,
take a look at the Kickstarter.
I'm sure, um, you know, this,
this is the Kickstarter is
usually a month.
So you've got plenty of time
to decide if you want to get this,

(14:09):
but I mean, this is,
this is hot on the heels of the has lab,
uh,
you know,
campaign that just ended in March.
So if you,
if you bought the has lab and
now you got to shell out
again for this compendium, you know, it's,
it's hitting your wallet
pretty hard there.
And then of course there's
shipping for this year.

(14:30):
Okay, fair enough.
Fair enough.
Yeah.
And then the shipping, I mean, the books,
like the shipping is not,
it's not free shipping.
So whatever, whatever level you got,
if you get, if you get four books,
I think the shipping was
like a hundred bucks or
something like that.
It was mine.
It says estimated shipping
is fifty two dollars

(14:50):
anywhere in the world.
Okay.
That's not that bad for four
really big books.
Yeah.
Fifty bucks for four books.
It's actually one hundred
bucks for eight books.
So if you if you get eight books,
it's one hundred bucks.
If you get twelve books,
it's one hundred and fifty bucks.
Those are the U.S.
prices.
And two bucks is two books is forty,
forty bucks.
So you really got to get you

(15:11):
really got to get four books.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Because it's only ten
dollars more for shipping.
But yeah,
they also list the shipping
prices for everywhere else
in the rest of the world.
So they're, you know, Canada, Mexico,
U.K.,
european union asia
australia new zealand rest
of europe and rest of the
world so you can look at
all those shipping prices

(15:32):
there um yeah it's it's big
yeah I mean you're getting
like a lot of the stretch
goals that have been
released I mean it's you're
getting uh some nice prints
um let me go to what the things um

(15:54):
Stretch goals.
So, I mean,
some of the things are just kind of, yeah,
whatever.
They're adding, like,
foil to the books and stuff.
But you're getting the
Megatron fold-out poster,
Optimus Prime fold-out poster.
Both of those were by Daniel
Warren Johnson.

(16:16):
If you get the Solar One compendiums,
you're getting die-cut
stickers for all the physical pledges.
Grimlock lenticular print
for all physical pledges, um,
a patch Autobot or Decepticon,
depending on which one you get.
Um,

(16:36):
The next one,
which is probably going to be
hit by the time this comes
out because it's two point
six million enamel pins.
So, I mean,
they're throwing in a whole
bunch of stuff here.
And if you don't like it,
say you get the Autobot one,
you wanted the Septicon
stretch goal thing.
A lot of these you can add

(16:57):
on just at a an extra cost.
So.
You can, like the tech specs,
you can add on the ones
you're not getting.
So, you know, it's...
And one thing, just if you are,

(17:18):
if you have not heard about
this or have not been
following the Kickstarter,
there is a one thing,
there's a free Jetfire tech
spec card that you can only
get if you sign up for
their mailing list.
So if just make sure you find that,
like just when you go to
the Kickstarter campaign,
search for jet fire on the

(17:39):
page and you'll find like
it'll they'll have a link
to sign up for the mailing list.
And then as long as you're
on as long as the same
email address you use for
Kickstarter matches the
email that's on that mailing list,
then when you when you sign
up for your rewards,
you will get that extra jet fire card.
So yeah,
and it's not too late to sign up
for that.

(17:59):
Yeah.
So
Yeah, so Jeremy,
did you get the Autobot compendium?
Yeah.
Okay.
I'm getting the Autobot one
with the Grimlock book plate,
and then I did order the
Decepticon tech spec as well.
Wow, okay.

(18:22):
Yeah.
That's cool.
All right.
Yeah,
you're making me want to jump in here.
Yeah.
Getting some FOMO here.
I was going to say,
you can't let Jeremy be the
only one to get it because
that would definitely put

(18:42):
him above you as far as the
biggest comic book fan.
Number one G-One comic fan.
Yeah.
Come on, man.
I have all the original comics.
Doesn't that count?
You don't have all the UK comics.
That's right.
Yeah.

(19:02):
It's as much of a claim as Daryl has.
Yep.
All right.
I might have to buy this.
Daryl just loves spending Charles's money.
Oh, yeah.

(19:24):
No, this is, I mean, this is cool.
It's, it's expensive, but it is cool.
If you're,
if you're into the transformers comics,
this is very cool.
I mean, like I said,
it's my has lab for the year.
Cause I didn't get the has
lab and it's just, yeah,
the has lab really didn't
interest me at all.
And this I'm like,
it'll look nice on my shelf.

(19:44):
And I'll finally have all of them.
I don't have to worry about
hunting down random comics,
which I'm still going to probably do,
but I don't have to.
Yep.
And then all the,
all those stretch goals and stuff.
It's just, I,
I'm really like a lot of the
things that they're throwing in.

(20:05):
Like those posters look really cool.
Yeah.
The only thing that I would
be looking at in this is the the UK books,
because those have been a
huge pain in the ass to find.
And I only have I think I only have like.
Fifteen or so of them and.

(20:26):
Yeah.
So knowing there's three
hundred and twelve or
something or whatever of
them that it just seems
like a hill I don't want to climb.
It's just, you know, I know I have,
you know,
enough of the story and I know it,
you know, through, you know,
just talking with people that I'm like,

(20:47):
I just don't need to.
I just don't need to do that.
So.
Well, also, you know,
of those three hundred and
thirty two UK issues,
half of them are the US
issues just reprinting.
Exactly.
So, you know, and.
Yeah, I mean, also, I'm curious.
One thing that that is not
clear is if those like so the UK issues,

(21:10):
you know,
we had the we had the like the
the UK only books that were
put out a few years ago
where a friend of the show,
John Paul Bovee,
got to actually color some
of the black and white
stripes strips that were
backup strips in the original UK comics.
I wonder if those backup
strips in this compendium

(21:31):
will be the colored
versions and not the black
and white versions.
I have no idea.
Okay.
There's a frequently asked question.
Let me see if someone asked that.
No, I'm not finding that.
Maybe we'll have an answer by next week.

(21:51):
Yeah.
We'll see if, um,
if I'll I'll ask and see if
I can get an answer okay we
should reach out to jp
maybe jp knows or if he's
heard anything I don't know
one thing I do appreciate
at least with the the the

(22:14):
one I got the the total r
one compendium it includes
the digital versions as
well as the physical
I'm trying to see,
I think all of the physical ones,
I believe include the digital as well.
Yeah.
So the U S one and the UK one,

(22:37):
they include the digital
versions of the physical books you get.
So, yeah, that's cool.
That way they can sit on my
shelf and I don't even have
to get them off to read it.
I can just put on my iPad.

(23:00):
I also got a thirty thousand
skybound insider points.
I don't even know what that does.
I'll trade you ten million
Stanley Nichols for those sky,
thirty thousand skybound points.

(23:23):
all right so alex says that
they are the color versions
it was covered in uh
something or you're gonna
ask questions or an
interview so that'll be
great okay nice all right

(23:45):
well uh that's all the
comics news let's move on
to some media news
All right.
And then media news this week,
we've got a Transformers
age of extinction.
Remember that?
We,
there's a line of stickers and themes
that are,
that have been released in Japan

(24:05):
for the app.
That's called Line, apparently.
It's like a messaging app, like WhatsApp,
that is used in Japan.
So they've got these
stickers that you can use within the app.
You can add Optimus Prime and Grimlock,
as well as some Age of Extinction themes.

(24:28):
It is region locked,
so you don't think to try
and download them if you've
got a way of downloading the app.
you'll also have to run like
some kind of APN or
something like that too so
yeah so there is that is
out so Transformers Age of
Extinction still going
strong in Japan we talked

(24:50):
about a while back we had
they did it with a
different movie I think
Dark of the Moon so I think
they're just going through
all the Bay movies there you go okay
For whatever reason.
Whatever.
Sure.
And the only other thing
we've got to meet you this

(25:11):
week is that there is
another episode of Wild...
Kings or well, what is it?
Yeah.
Wild King is, uh, yeah.
Wild King on, um, on YouTube.
So this is that new, uh,
Transformers kids show that is available.
Um,
this is on the being released on the
Takara Tommy site and, uh,

(25:33):
you can take a look at it there.
Um, yeah, it's only seven minutes long,
so not, uh,
not a real big time investment.
Um, and, uh, the, uh, yeah, it's,
pretty, I mean, the animation is,
it's fine.
We talked about it before
when we did a quick little
recap of the first two episodes.

(25:55):
It kind of reminds me of
like Unicron Trilogy,
but obviously the animation
is a little better.
Um, but it is definitely meant for,
for kids, you know?
Um, yeah.
And then the last half of
the episode is literally
just a commercial showing
off the figures that were used,
like for the toys that were
used for the characters in the show.

(26:16):
So now they kind of
transform around and whatnot.
So yeah, it's a, you know,
it's a fun little kid show and, uh,
check it out.
If you are absolutely
desperate for some kind of
transformers media to watch.
Yeah, I did watch it.
I'm not going to recap it.
It's I mean,

(26:37):
you guys could turn on turn on
the closed captions and
it'll it'll try to train
it'll Google will struggle
to translate the the
Japanese and the English for you.
But I mean,
it's it's just Optimus Prime
and Megatron fighting and
the and showing off that
the toys can combine and
transform and then they fight.

(26:59):
it's four it's four minutes
of the show and then yeah
three minutes of the toy
advertisements are like
here's how you transform
your toys and play with
them yeah and recreate the
stuff from that you saw on the show
the dinosaurs attached to
Megatron on the arms there.
And then they add a little
leaf to his chest.
So, you know,

(27:20):
that's to show you his power ups,
whatever.
Yeah.
I mean, like I said,
it's a kid's show and I mean,
it's almost like a commercial.
It's literally just the
length of a commercial.
So yeah.
It's almost like all of the
shows are meant to sell toys.
Wild.
It's just, this is more explicit about it.

(27:42):
Yeah.
You're blowing my mind, Jeremy.
Yeah.
But that's going to do it for media news.
All right.
Well,
that will do it for this episode of
Transmissions Altmo.
It was a short one this week.
No convention news and no feedback.

(28:03):
So, you know, if
Anything we talked about

(28:24):
Let us know what you think
of all the toys coming out,
all the Transformers compendium.
Are you back in that Kickstarter?
Are you one of those backers?
Actually, Daryl, we didn't ask you.
Any interest in this at all?
No, absolutely not.
no fair enough one one I

(28:45):
don't have room for it look
at this I don't have room
for this um and uh and two
I would be absolutely
murdered if I spent that
kind of money on something
I already have so yeah yep
no fair enough I can't I
can't do it all right but

(29:05):
maybe you out there can do
it listeners let us know
what do you what do you
what are you thinking about it
All right,
that's it for this episode of
Transmissions Alt Mode.
As always,
we give a shout out to our
masterpiece Donatrions at
the end of every episode.

So thank you once again to
John Forks Levengood and
Steve C. You guys are awesome.
Thank you so much for contributing.
And thank you everyone out
there for watching and listening.
We'll see you next time.
Bye-bye.
Bye.

I believe that when you (yes you) feel seen, heard and understood you’re able to deal with relationship struggles, work challenges and life’s ups and downs with more ease and grace. I interview experts, celebrities, thought leaders and athletes so that we can grow our mindset, build better habits and uncover a side of them we’ve never seen before. New episodes every Monday and Friday. Your support means the world to me and I don’t take it for granted — click the follow button and leave a review to help us spread the love with On Purpose. I can’t wait for you to listen to your first or 500th episode!
