One month ago, Dean Cipher was looking after his father when Sister Sage arrived, to give him a housewarming gift. She playfully slapped Cipher and they had sex in the bathroom as the Dean’s incapacitated father watches on.
After using her expanded powerset to beat Jordan at the Unsafe Spaces battle, Cipher forces Marie to continue training by threatening to take her and her friends back to Elmira with Cate, whom he had imprisoned.
Knowing how terrifying the detention centre is, Marie convinces Jordan and Emma to rescue Cate. Emma is scared they are going to get captured without a very strong Supe on their side. She tries to recruit Sam to join them but he refuses. He has returned to his childhood home trying to make amends with his estranged parents.
Sam’s trip home is full of revelations. He had always believed the compound V inside his body is what broke his brain but learns from his mother that they handed him over to Vought because they were scared of what he might do when he was a child due to what his mother believes is a hereditary mental instability.
Meanwhile at the attempted prison break Marie, Jordan, and Emma enter Elmira, but are instantly captured and placed in cells inside the facility.
Back at Godolkin University Polarity confronts Cipher about the death of his son Andre, The Dean unabashedly tells him that he died when Cipher tried to enhance his powers. At home following the revelations Polarity suffers a severe seizure and falls to the ground.
To try to persuade Marie to finally give in to his training, Cipher shows her that he is holding her estranged sister Annabeth. Working together with Cate the group escapes their cells but when they reach Annabeth's cell, they find her dead.
In her grief, Marie's powers develop further, successfully manipulating Annabeth's cells to revive her.
