Lakhs of devotees from all over the world thronged the Athi Varadhar Shrine at the Varadharaja Perumal Temple in Kancheepuram. It was a historic  occasion that happens for 48 days once in 40 years. The 9 feet tall idol made out of a fig tree is a big event in Kancheepuram. But all things are not rosy. We need to see the other side of the story.   The temple workers and cleaners suffer a lot with poor facilities such as inadequate food, miniscule salary and  no proper restrooms.  Poor crowd management led to the death of 4 devotees. The devotees sometimes go all the way and pay the entry fees but do not perform the darshan.
