Vi följer med den västgötske bonden Emil upp i traktorhytten. Där sitter han i skenet av tre skärmar och följer hur traktorn rör sig och hur såmaskinen och gödselspridaren potionerar ut gödsel och utsäde. Behovet av gödsel kan variera på ett och samma fält. Vissa delar av fältet behöver mycket medans andra klarar sig med lite mindre gödsel. Emil har med jämna mellanrum över fälten tagit jordprover som analyserats på laboratorium, för att får reda på gödselbehovet, och varje prov har sin exakta gps-punkt.
Den här informationen används för att skapa en styrfil, som med satelitpositionering gps, styr gödselpridarens dator så att rätt mängd gödsel hamnar på rätt plats.
