(00:01):
It's funny, for the first time in 245 episodes, I don't have a
fantastic opening for you guys. I'm so sorry.
(00:52):
The and you're listening to episode 245 of the Vigilante
1939 podcast. We are giving our full review of
Fantastic Four first steps and we are discussing the DCU Wonder
Woman movie. Getting a writer already.
As always, the best way to support the show is to please
leave us a five star rating interview on Apple podcasts and
(01:12):
to of course, follow us on Twitter at Vigilante 9239.
I'm of course 1/3 of the Co hosts here, Nick Zionk and
joining me as always. All right, Nick Junior and Nico
Caruso. Hey guys, long time no see, long
talk. How you guys doing?
Fantastic. Terrible how we doing?
I'm personally doing fantastic, very fantastic, but are we not
(01:37):
going to talk about the Avatar 3trailer and 3D that we all got
to sit through to you? Can you can follow our socials
for any reactions or things likethat nature, you know?
Dad, how long? But that's just me.
We'll see, you know We'll we'll see.
You know what? How nauseous were you during it?
Yeah, you, you. You didn't look too good.
(01:58):
I I, I, I always say this to you, whatever people like, they
like. I'm the last person.
I I've stopped being that guy that doesn't get it, but I just
don't get avatar at all. I, I, it's, it's utter nonsense
to me. I took you to the first one.
You were a kid, sat there, watched it, walked out of there.
(02:19):
And I'm still flabbergasted to this day that this franchise is
the biggest thing in cinematic history.
But again, to all those that love it, it's just not my thing.
It's weird. I, I don't know.
I mean, I don't. Get it's crazy 'cause I don't.
Really love word mangly looking creatures that I I just don't
(02:40):
get it but whatever it's OK it'sOK.
It's crazy because like, I don'tlove both movies and I really
wasn't looking to see the third one, but I did think that
trailer was freaking stunning. I mean, I think it looks there's
some things like I can't tell ifthey're in space, I can't tell
where they are. But there's some, there's some
(03:02):
crazy craziness, it looks like, but.
It does feel like that's the most epic of the three I would
agree with. That that being said, I'm still
it didn't make me more excited for it, but it it it's going to
get me in the theater, I guess. So getting getting another
collectible Nico again, you know, do you still?
Have oh, I got that cup. I don't know who has that cup.
(03:23):
Joey might have that cup. Shout out to Joey.
I might let him keep it after I moved out.
Before we get into F4, let's do quick.
We're ADC leaning show. Let's do Wonder Woman Writer.
Is it Anna Noguera? Did I say that right?
It's with AG, right? Yeah.
(03:43):
Who wrote Supergirl? And James Gunn said he's blown
away by that. We then found out in trades that
she's writing Teen Titans. I just don't know if James has
ever said officially that she is, but let's just say she was
like. Yeah.
Or finished writing Teen Titans, now she's writing Wonder Woman.
(04:03):
Guys, what do you think of this one?
I think it's cool on one hand because I think it's cool to see
up and coming talent who's trusted so much that she got 3
marquee home run characters for DCI.
Mean the Teen Titans are a groupof characters, but they're
iconic. I mean, there's big names in
there. It's also interesting because we
(04:25):
haven't seen a movie made by heryet and there's already 3
projects that you know she has lined up.
So what? What do you think of the Wonder
Woman writer dad? After the movie we saw tonight
and they were able to film this thing, put it together quickly
(04:45):
and produce the product that we're going to talk about.
I think the, I think DC is now falling behind a little bit.
I think that, that I hope this girl's good.
I, I saw the backhand slap that he gave to Matt Reeves about
they don't want writers that aregoing to take two years with a
product. It's just I, I, I love Superman,
(05:06):
but I, I, again, I feel like they're a step behind with
Wonder Woman. I would have thought the script
was written already. I thought they were a little
more ahead of it. How can I tell you what I think
of this girl when I haven't seenanything that she.
That's the other thing, yeah. Like that's that's the best
question. Just because you're telling me
(05:27):
they're telling us that Supergirl is going to be a great
movie. I don't have doubt that it's
going to be a good movie. But I mean, again, I, I, I, I'm,
I'm going to talk about this movie a little bit because this
movie was supposed to be rushed that we saw tonight.
They threw a cast to cast together.
They were writing it on the fly.How was it going to get done?
(05:49):
It's for surely going to be pushed back this movie, right?
I heard. Yeah.
This movie will never keep its spot.
It's not going to go up. Super grin and the quality that
we just got tonight. I am jealous again for the DCU
that they're so far behind and the greatest Superman is I
always feel like we're behind, so I don't and the guy I don't.
(06:13):
What do you want me to tell? When Super when Super Girl comes
out, I'll I'll say, yeah, maybe she looks like she can write a
good Wonder Woman movie. The Wonder Woman movie should
have already been cast. It should already be written.
They should already be like filming this movie The end of
this year of the weekend in Mexico.
And I don't care what they're giving us next year.
And currently the TV shows and stuff, they're behind.
(06:37):
Yeah, I mean, I, I love the factthat the announcement is made is
has came out that she's either writing a script or maybe she's
done with it already in a trade. You're just reporting the fact
that she's writing it or is in the midst of writing.
And so who knows really how far along she is and how late the
trades are, you know, of of reporting that she could have
(06:57):
already been doing it for a while.
Who knows? It shows great confidence in
supergamy. Like the movie must really be a
banger man if she's not only getting like not one but like 2
consecutive projects after a movie that hasn't even came out.
Don't hear too much about that love that Gun is seemingly is
going with a brain trust. I love this idea that if she's
(07:18):
going to be like hurt like his person or whatever where he
knows he can trust her to deliver good work from him, then
I'm all for it. I mean, I agree with Mr. C
though, Wonder Woman is the nextlogical step though, like when I
walked out, assume like, OK, nowwe got to get one woman.
Now we got to get Batman. So I love that this is seem to
be something that they are fast tracking because I'm sure that
(07:39):
they want to get this out in thesummer of 2027.
Let's let's give or take. But I love it.
And hopefully she lives up to tothis hype that she's
establishing for herself. So we'll we'll see what the next
steps are though moving forward. The next steps.
Let's talk about first steps. Fantastic.
(07:59):
You see what I did first steps. You know, fantastic, four first
steps when this drops. We we, we are dropping this at
time of embargo. So if you're listening to this
today, on Tuesday, you'll see a bunch of reviews coming in.
I'm sure the round tomato score will be up.
So who knows actually where everything will fall in
(08:19):
comparison to us. I think it'll be pretty high
though. We just got home from Fantastic
Four for first steps. I'm talking minutes ago and
we're talking about it spoiler free reaction.
Then I'm going to throw this to you first.
I'm as someone who I think was always the least enthused by the
trailers, It felt like of the three of us going in tonight,
(08:41):
you were sort of the, the, I would say you weren't as high as
maybe Zeddy or I was. Especially not me because I was
kind of through the roof on thisthing.
Your thoughts on Fantastic Four first step spoiler free review.
Best comic book movie since Guardians 3.
(09:01):
I love that it's hot. Completely and completely
original, spectacular visuals. I take everything back I said
about my apprehension about Pedro Pasquale has Reed
Richards. He was absolutely terrific.
Terrific. I had a soul that I didn't even
realize I was watching Pedro Pascal for a while.
(09:24):
The emotion, the depth at which he plays the character, the
doubt. Terrific cast is terrific.
I I I know they felt like they were all fan casted probably
didn't have to audition. When you're that level, when you
have that craftsmanship that Vanessa Kirby does to absolutely
(09:48):
riveting in her role of Sue Storm, Joseph Quinn, is that his
name? The best Human Torch ever to
grace the screen. Ever.
I wish we got a little bit more of Ben because he was that good.
He Ben from from the Bear I think.
I think he's the one character that maybe suffers a bit from
(10:09):
the ensemble. Even though he is great, I do
feel like the other 3 stand out just a bit from him.
Just a bit more. Gas is terrific.
Visuals are terrific. Terrifying villain.
Absolutely high stakes. A short, concise, under 2 hour
movie that does what many comic book movies fail to do.
(10:33):
Establish. Introduce A-Team, Develop all of
them. Establish a threat that is
again, probably the the one of the single most biggest threats
we've seen in the MCU outside ofThanos.
And. Puts it all together and it just
(10:54):
works, man. It just works.
Pacing is fast. We said that about Superman, but
this pacing's a bit different because there's a lot more
development, development of the characters.
There's not too many in there. It seems like there would be but
they somehow make it work to where and I and and again I
(11:15):
apologize to is there Julia Garner.
Yeah, man. Silver Surfer is a one man.
I didn't miss Nourn Rad one bit and I am the biggest Nourn Rad.
She isn't that. Totally terrific.
And I know we can't spoil anything like this and you know,
we are right out of the theater, but I can't see myself really
(11:40):
changing my mind on this movie because it's different than
anything we've seen before. And yet there are some of the
tropes in the third act that allthese movies kind of suffer from
a little bit. They just happen to do theirs a
little bit more creative and differently.
But there is that one trope in there that when we do the
(12:01):
spoiler review, we'll talk about, But it doesn't bother me
as much as it does in a lot of the other movies we've seen.
So I don't know. What trope are you talking
about? Well, I don't want to spoil
anything. We don't, we don't want to.
We don't want to get into that, the overall destruction, if you
will, even though they. Oh yeah, OK, that's.
(12:22):
It's in the trailer. OK, yeah, even even though they
do, even though they do give themselves a a way out of it so
that you're not like sitting there and think you're watching
Zack Snyder's Man of Steel. There it at.
Yeah, that's fair. You never once think you're
there anyway, to be honest with you.
Just a terrific movie. Just a, just a terrific
(12:44):
introduction of, of, of the first Marvel comic, the
Fantastic Four. We, we, we've gotten the 1st 2
movies with them, which I didn'tthink are as bad as everybody
else does. I thought there were some good
castings. I never saw the other one with
the younger people with Michael B Jordan.
(13:06):
And and my no I haven't either. I never saw that movie.
I've I've seen bits and but it was, you know, it was so dead
before it came out that it it just to me.
I didn't even want to. I didn't even think it was worth
it, my time to waste because I knew it was never going to
continue on or anything like that.
But all I'll say is this Doomsday just got a lot more
(13:27):
interesting to me because of theFantastic Four, Yeah.
Yeah. No, I'm going to, I'm going to
piggyback off of everything you just sent me as I feel, I feel
this is probably going to be a lot less.
We're probably all going to agree with you, and that's OK.
I had my skepticisms going in, but I was still enthusiastic
(13:49):
about seeing Marvel's first family done right.
The the as a complete package. The the idea of them finally
being done right and incorporated in the EMCUI was
excited about. I felt like Superman took a lot
of the juice in the space. So I was like, OK, like, is this
going to have enough energy for me to fully love and to get
invested in as somebody that wasalready excited about the
(14:11):
prospects of this movie, as someone who is going to throw
the intentional pun of fantastic, this movie is
fantastic. Not only is it, I would say beat
for beat, pound for pound, whatever you want to say,
whether it's Guardians 3 or No Way Home, whatever you want to
say. I don't think I'm being
hyperbolic. I mean, this feels like such a
(14:31):
traditional comic book movie just in terms of like its
mistress. She said it was tight.
It is very tight. It's straightforward, it's
simple, it's easy to follow, youget the stakes that are at hand
right away and you're emotionally invested and you're
connected into the story. The cast is great.
I mean, you can say whether or not it's just a popularity fan
cast of people throwing togetherand and you can make that fair
(14:55):
assumption, but I saw the Fantastic Four in this cast
walking out of it. I might have even said Joseph
Quinn was my favorite out of thefour of them, but Vanessa Kirby?
That wouldn't be a bad take though.
She ate and left no crumbs. That that's that's what I'm
saying about. I mean, if you're any worried
(15:15):
about Sue Storm being in more movies, don't be.
I mean, get rid of that whatsoever.
I thought Galactus looked incredible visually.
I think it is one of the more impressive MCU movies kind of
movies in general that I think we've had.
Listen, it's Michael Giacchino. You know you're going to get a
score that that that rocks. That's incredible.
Guy did the freaking Batman and the Incredibles.
(15:36):
Whatever you want to say, right? So everything I think this movie
did, it delivers like we talk about like, as long as you get a
story that's a nice A to B and sets up C later down the line,
that's what you're really looking for.
Nico already eloquently said this too.
And I think that's the whole crux of where I'm at is I do
think this is a movie where finally Jack Hurley and Stan Lee
(15:59):
would be proud of and the potential of where these
characters can go from here is really, really exciting.
So I love this I'm and I have nopalm sing.
It might even be the best comic movie of the year when all is
said and done. I can't believe you know said
that on. Air, I'm going to say.
Oh my God. It was going to get out there.
I'm really high in this movie and like my review would have
(16:22):
said it anyway I. Like the fact that you were,
yeah, not close minded. But I will say because we did
each say we got 2 bangers back-to-back, so nobody just
thought of what I'm saying. Superman and Fantastic Four are
great. They're great and and I'm glad
that they both turned out the best way that they could have,
(16:43):
in my opinion. No, if you're both ADC and
Marvel fan and you know you you you don't have hatred towards
one or the other, you're going to have an incredible summer.
Honest guy between Thunderbolts,Superman and F4, what an awesome
comic book movie summer. Jeez 3 that close together?
(17:07):
When is there something 2 this close together that were that
good that were Marvel and DCI? Don't think we have.
The last time there were two this close together were
Ragnarok and theatrical JL and both those I don't enjoy.
So it's like, yeah, wow, I love this movie.
I'm blown away. My tweet I was wrong.
I said best MCU movie since No Way Home.
(17:28):
I always forget Guardians 3 cameout in 2020 year.
Guardians 3 came out such a weird time.
It was like as everything was kind of ending and then it was
before all the shit. Do you know what I mean?
Like. Before the show for The Marvels.
Right before you know, Brave NewWorld before you know.
(17:51):
But God, it's up there for me incomic book movie since No Way
Home. I mean, I think this is I don't
think it's crazy to say that this is already top ten MCU.
What Matt Shakman does here. The movie isn't a catalog of
what, 37 movies? And yet it feels so singular
against them all. And 'cause it's so
(18:13):
self-contained, I don't think that's a spoiler.
They're saying it that the moviereally doesn't operate in the
self-contained way. And it, it does it, it gives me
Phase One vibes, but different. It gives me 2000 vibes.
You know, it's so silly. And Kirby it is.
And I think that retro futuristic feel makes it feel
like the, the early Kirby days and, and the early Stan stuff,
(18:38):
the two of them together. I, I thought it was beautiful.
It might be the best looking MCUmovie.
I don't think that's hyperbole. There's a sequence in the middle
of this movie where they're in space and there is a high stakes
moment happening and it's a longsequence.
It's like A, probably like A5. 10 long sequence, yeah.
Stunning. On the edge of the street and
(18:59):
you're moving to the yard? Yep.
Julian got surfers. That's great, man.
My Silver Surfer heralding has never looked so incredible
before. Harold.
I want to Harold. I'm going to I'd.
You wouldn't have minded the destruction of Planets I.
Need to learn how to Harold? Incredible.
The movie starts and it gets going, and I think the pace is
(19:22):
good. I think the story's focused.
I think the direction's strong. I think the screenplay is
surprisingly strong. The way they build these
characters, the emotion, all of it is so earned.
I'll tell you what I also love. I haven't said this on Twitter
because I think there's a quick.I think people have a quick
trigger. I do think the Sam Raimi
(19:42):
comparisons to Superman were very overshot.
I think people wanted that to bea thing.
I think sometimes people like tocompare things.
I get rainy vibes from this filmfor three reasons.
It's very sincere #1 #2 the toneis incredible, the humor is
(20:05):
funny. There were laughs in the
theater, in a press critic screening.
That's rare. First of all, it's rare to have
Emmy laughs. But the humor was never over the
top. It was never goofy.
It was naturally rode that Raimiline of being very sincere and
serious. And yet it's kind of funny and
goofy and #3. Superman tried this and the only
(20:29):
reason I'm comparing is because they both came out.
This movie nails the civilians, the New York.
This New York is so lived in andwhat a cool, idealistic world
where the they're the only heroes.
They're loved by the world and they have so many interactions
and they really breathe with thepeople who live here and they
capture the civilians and the civilians have a have a role.
(20:53):
They have a definite purpose in this movie.
So this 60s Earth 828 shout out to Jack Kirby.
This 828 New York City is incredible and it feels lived in
and you it could breathe. I don't know I'd and I'd I just
thought it was awesome Galactus bad mother effer man Ralph and
Easton the voice perfect his face looks like him too.
(21:16):
That's what I'm saying, like I'mnot trying to talk crap, but
they were working on this VFX way before that movie rolled.
Marvel does things differently. I know you all hate it.
But there's a lot of it they do.Things differently they've.
Always done things differently. It's why I'm.
Getting tired of all these articles that come out and
everyone's responding to every. We know this.
Don't believe it? Hasn't.
(21:37):
Worked a lot recently before this one.
Dad, I I forgot people were telling this thing the move
'cause it looks better that I don't want to start going down
that thing. Yeah, I don't want to start
going down that. Rabbit hole.
There were a lot of the I don't want lot of the guys, the
biggest voices on Twitter sayingthat this was never going to
keep its spot. There's no way they can get the
(21:58):
It's maybe one of the best looking comic book movies of the
last. Ever.
I mean ever dude, it's insane. And you know, I'm not, I'm not
my, my opening shot at the DCU is just that.
If Marvel could do this, like ina shorter period of time, why
(22:21):
does everything we do? And I say we because I, I, I
associate myself with, with the DCU, Why does everything we do
have to take so long, right? Like why does it have to take so
long? It's it's crazy.
These you're not writing The Godfather 1-2 or three.
You're not. You're not.
This is not Of Mice and Men. This is not Citizen Kane.
(22:43):
These stories should not take solong to write.
There was nothing in James Gunn's Superman that was overly
elaborate or groundbreaking froma writing standpoint of view.
It was the performances of the key players, namely the lead,
that are that make that movie right.
(23:04):
It's not so much but and I will say this and I love Superman.
I I'm I really like Superman, all its flaws and everything.
But the am I saying this right? The pinnacle speech that he
gives, the one that's given, I'mnot going to spoil it for
(23:24):
anybody, but the kind of counterone that's given in this movie I
think is delivered better than what David does in Superman say.
That one more time. The the, the, the hero's speech,
right, which David gives at the end of his movie, is given by a
(23:44):
key character here, Their purpose, their definition.
It is. We talked about it in the car on
the way home. Zeddy, me and your sister.
And oh nice, I wasn't there for that.
I don't want. I don't want to call Zeddy.
You all have my phone number, huh?
I don't want to just. You know, I love battery.
You know, I'm just a very illusive.
(24:05):
You know what the speech if I put my, you know, pants on,
there's a speech like that in this movie, but it resonates
more because it's with more. It's not against singular
villain. It's with.
But also. And it's great.
There's another reason more timewith the characters.
(24:32):
But it's a shorter movie, Nick. How could they do that?
Because this movie was focused, this movie did something
different than what the other one was trying to do.
There's there was a whole world building thing done.
I get it. But I watched this movie that
also operates in a much different world.
(24:53):
It is not operating in the MCU. It had to establish its own
world and rules and stuff. One was a little too ambitious
and it got chopped up in the editing room.
It's clear this one, they, they trusted Matt Shackman and they
let it go. They give this cast, the
characters more time. And this is the final thing I'll
(25:14):
say about this movie. The emotion in this movie hit so
hard because they take their time with the four characters.
They even take their time with the Silver Surfer to really make
things hit. Yeah, but Superman.
Operates as and and and again, not to spoil it, but one of the
great moments of the movie is the payoff with the Silver
(25:37):
Surfer by one of the four. And it's absolutely brilliant
the way they do it. It's emotional and it's it just
hits. And here's the tone.
Here's the tone balance. I think it's incredible.
It begins the dynamic of the member of the four in Silver
(25:58):
Surfer begins in such a different way, in such a comedic
win. It comes 180 in.
Such a different way. And yet, yeah, I need to
highlight Joseph Quinn. God, he's a perfect Johnny.
Well, I I honestly, it would be hard for me to say he's better
(26:21):
than Kirby, but. Kirby's good.
Well, she's. Kirby's good.
Great. Actress I.
Mean Kirby's good man. Yeah, not good.
She's great. Yeah, I mean, I mean, I think
they're all good. I agree about Evan.
I agree about Ben being a little.
(26:42):
I think Ben is a little bit bit, little bit to the side in this
movie. I think just a little bit and he
looks great. He looks great.
He's the best looking version they've done.
But in my opinion, I would, I would have to say Kirby and
Quinn and Pate. I mean, I can't even shortchange
(27:03):
Pedro here, and I wanted to. So good, so good.
Also, they hid the powers of Pedro in the trailer and they
work, and they work beautifully in here.
Don't be worried. I'll say this, this isn't
spoiler. A lot of people in the trailers,
(27:24):
including myself, were like, he must not stretch.
Does he stretch? Oh, he stretches.
Oh, he stretches. Not only does he stretch, he
gets stretched, which was a really, really scary movie.
Some might say he's elongated, yeah.
So any other final thoughts on the F4I?
(27:47):
I thought it was incredible. Yeah, I, I, I just, I just think
one, when you get to that one character introduction, I'm not
going to spoil what exactly it is, but it serves as like the
emotional core of the movie itself.
I so, I mean like so good and like just so emotionally
effective. It feels so real in like a comic
(28:08):
movie like that. You can see it really like take
it over the edge it it's so beautifully done and I'm like,
not only do I think it's going to resonate with a lot of
people, but like what it sets upfor the next couple big movies.
I mean, wow, I. Mean this movie focuses on
family and it never let's go of that.
It never it never action spectacle.
(28:32):
It has all that. Did you know some of those horse
trailers aren't in the movie? There was a couple things she
says in some of the trailers that she doesn't say in the
movie. Which I that's true, she doesn't
need to. Right.
Yeah. She doesn't need to.
Yeah. So for me, like the new thing is
(28:54):
this well, that movie was rippedright out of a comic book or
that's the most comic book movieI've seen.
This is a little better, I think, than anything that's
ripped out of comic book, even though it does pay homage to
Stanley and Jack Kirby. But it it.
I also love that the the suits looked incredible too.
Can I? Say that.
(29:15):
The. Suits.
The suits I need one of like. Twatters.
Both versions of the suit that you see like Oh my, I like.
The what shirt Johnny was wearing.
Yeah. Or on the on the chest.
I wonder if they make those. That's a great shirt.
Just the white shirt with the logo on the chest where it's
not. It's very understated, but yet
very, very cool, you know, And yeah, I, I think that it's, it's
(29:40):
while it is a comic book movie, I think it, it takes, takes the
comic book movie to another level.
So I was not, I was not anywherehyped for this movie like it was
for Superman. And yet, here we are.
Look at. That and here we are and, and
nothing's going to change on this one because it, it, it, it
(30:03):
is so complete in in the ending. There's no ambiguity here.
When it ends, it ends. But you know, in the spoiler
scene we won't get into there's,there's a couple of them.
You know, 1 is important, one isfun, you know, but, and I know
(30:25):
this is the cat out of the bag, but this is not a spoiler
because Pedro's gonna what? Everybody knows that.
They. No.
Everybody knows that they're keycharacters in Doomsday, right?
Everybody knows that that they're.
That's where you're going and that.
Makes me more excited from doomsday because.
(30:47):
You. Need.
You need this level of think of acting to help rooms.
They be more than just the smartest word of of chairs of
people in chairs. You know what I'm saying?
See if just you know, we all want to own comments.
We all want to see everybody. Yeah, you know, we all want.
The. The guns.
And again, for everyone that's worried that match, what is his
(31:11):
name? Mark.
Mark Walter. Dude, this is what the MCU does.
They do an input from everybody while they're doing the script,
they change it. The actors themselves have roles
and they have been put in it. They do it.
It doesn't make the movies bad. If anything, it makes them
better, better for the fans. It's like they really care and
(31:33):
they do it and they're not goingto just sacrifice or be stubborn
and say this is how we wrote it and this is how it's going to
be. They hold you on the fly and
this is not, I know you said theThunderbolts, I know you, I know
we held that in high regards. But this is not Brave New World.
This is not the Thunderbolts. No, it's it's big name Marquee.
(31:57):
Marvel this is this is not this Marvel 2, Marvel 2, this is a
really this is a really big. Comic movie.
This is a This is an important comic book movie The likes of
which we'll probably and I don'tknow how long these characters
(32:18):
are going to be around. I don't know how long we're
going to see this out for. I don't know.
I mean, we're going to get Doomsday secret war.
I don't know if they're going tobe around, if there's going to
be a sequel or whatever, becauseI don't know.
I'll. Tell you this.
But it but whatever it is, it's good.
It's. The I'll take them and I'll
enjoy them for however long we get them.
(32:39):
That's right. But yeah, it's good that they're
basically leads of the next movie you'll you'll see they
need to they. Also like.
Need to be. Yeah, they like need to be.
And also I, I want to put this, there's a lot of people who are
(32:59):
like comic book movie fans who who read comics.
I trust they all do. But they say they read comics.
They see the hundreds of tweets a day, and yet when it comes to
certain movies, they remove that.
So with Superman, it was the paces.
Well, that's a comic. Why do you want?
Why do you want more time? The Avengers movies are Avengers
(33:23):
movies in name. They're Marvel comic crossover
events. In Marvel comic crossover
events, all these characters aretogether.
Yeah, Cap leads The Avengers, but like in Seeker Wars, since
everyone's in that movie, it doesn't matter.
The F4 are going to be the ones who drive the narrative.
He's not. Pedro's not going to be saying
(33:45):
Avengers Assemble leading The Avengers.
What it means is the F4 is goingto show up and be like, this is
happening, and they're going to be consultant guy.
I can't believe people aren't excited to see this F4 with
Avengers and X-Men. Like I can't believe there's
comic book fans. That should be.
The you aren't excited to see all these people in a movie like
(34:07):
I I just can't believe it. I just can't believe that
there's people not excited for this.
But that's that's. We're going to know what the box
office in in the general audience is.
Listen, you know, homework. Nobody should have to do
homework to see these movies because because 95% of the
people going to see these moviesdon't read comic books.
You know that guys, I don't knowif you're aware of that or not.
(34:28):
So I know we like to be pretentious at times in our
little community and know, do wedo the homework?
You do that. Nobody needs to do the homework
to see these movies. OK, You don't.
You don't. You didn't have to read a comic
book to love The Dark Knight, even though comic book readers
knew some of the influences thatwere on that movie, that that's
like icing on the cake for guys like us, right?
(34:50):
It, it's like when you're watching, it's like when you're
when your favorite team, when you follow the, the AAA team,
right? And, and you know the names and
then they finally come up to thebig leagues and they play well.
And you were able to say, you know what, Dad, I knew when
Chris Bryant was drafted, watched him and I followed the
box scores. Well, dude, 95% of Cub fans
(35:12):
don't watch the minor leagues. They just threw Chris Bryant
when he came up to the. The exactly.
And they enjoyed him. They didn't enjoy him any less
or more because they didn't theyknew or didn't know.
Yeah, you had a little input. That's our little thing.
That's what we do. But the comic book reading
industry is is is so minuscule compared to the people that go
(35:32):
see these movies. It's just not fair.
Fooling yourself. You're on this Twitter island
like we all are. If you really think that's
important. It's just not because I know a
lot of people that see these movies, some more than others,
and they don't have ever in their lives picked up or ever
held a comic book ever. And yet they like movies, right?
(35:55):
Your sisters never picked up a comic book in her life, never
read a comic book in her life. The secret?
Sauce of this see all these movies and they like them or
they don't like them or whateverand it does like I said,
whatever homework, small work, you know, you, you shouldn't
that should not be the key here. You know, that's for us nerds to
argue. Did they get the character
right? Did they compromise his is moral
(36:18):
value or whatever? You know, that's what we do, But
that doesn't make a movie successful or not.
It's it's a it's a particular vision.
It's a take. If a generalized is going to
like it, I think this movie is going to do very well.
But Zeddy and I were talking about it.
I, I, I still don't know. I don't know it should.
(36:41):
I thought Superman did well and I know people are happy, but I,
I thought Superman was going to do a little better and it, you
know, it's doing good. It's it's, I think it's doing
fairly well for what what I thought even I thought that
would do a little better. I think this movie probably does
better than Superman, but I don't know how much more.
(37:04):
And I wouldn't be shocked if it doesn't do as well as we think
because for all the people out there that want to tell you
there's no comic book fatigue and all that, it's still there.
Whether the movies are good, badand different, no matter who's
in them, there still is. There still is a little bit of
fatigue for all these movies. There's a lot of, there's a lot
(37:26):
of and people have choices to make.
But it's, it's crazy because we,we're now at the, we, we, we
started the summer and here we are.
All three movies have, have comeout.
See. Yeah.
We're all here. And we all made some predictions
and I think, I thought, I think Z is going to hit it right on
the head that the dinosaurs might wind up ruling.
(37:47):
Maybe this movie will have a chance.
Superman's not. Superman's not going to touch
the dinosaurs. I think everybody's got to
realize that right now. Superman, the dinosaurs are
going to have a 7 in it when it's all said and done, and
Superman's not going to. Now.
This is the wild card in it all here, this Fantastic Four.
We're going to see where this fits in the pantheon of what's
(38:09):
what's coming up. But it's sad.
I'm a little sad, guys. I'm sad we're here.
I know it's sad it came and wentall over.
Here's what I'll say. This is where the fun.
Begins. This is where the fun begins.
This is where the fun begins because there's a chance end of
(38:31):
the month, both those movies before that, this movie
struggles. I'll tell you this though, from
everything I'm seeing tonight, I'm making bold prediction as we
drop this. These reviews look like they're
going to be stronger than Superman.
Like much stronger than Superman, I think.
I think. I think you're looking at an A
(38:53):
cinema score, not an A minus. And I think the word of mouth on
this will be strong because you don't need to do any homework.
And it's it's it's like a new entry point and it's pretty
self-contained. I think parents are going to
really connect with this movie too.
(39:17):
We'll see. We'll see.
And of course. I mean, there's, there's
something on my seat. What you say?
Oh. Yeah, yeah.
No, it's might even be a slight no.
I'd say they're both very accessible, but yeah.
This is all about the same as far as kids.
Yeah. But I mean, like, there's
nothing in this movie that's like jarring or like or would
make anybody like want to, you know, steer clear the other way.
(39:39):
I mean, maybe there's a sequencethat takes place in the middle
of the movie that might be a little, might hit a little too
close to home. But I mean, there's nothing in
this movie that's going to steeranybody of any age away.
I don't, I didn't. I didn't find personally.
In my opinion, Superman actuallyhas a couple more graphic death
scenes. There might not have been one
swear word in this in this entire movie, actually.
(40:01):
No, there wasn't. And it's PG13.
So there wasn't there wasn't a swear word in there neither that
makes or break. Anything but I mean that's if
that's the bar for high accessible this movie could be
that's probably going to say a lot, but and.
Today I want. To see these group of characters
again, and I feel like that's what somebody needs to ask
themselves walking in the movie and walking out.
(40:24):
Like if you have that same feeling, I feel like you're in a
great spot regardless of where you are and how you feel about
the MCU. I feel like Superman did its
job. Like I definitely want to see
corn sweat and that and that world again.
So that movie did its job. This movie I definitely did its
job, especially in the short term for sure.
God, I want to see Spidey. I want to see Spidey with this
(40:46):
with which is crazy. That's the next movie.
From Oh, you're going to get them I.
Know what they're going to get Johnny is he's just not a pretty
face. I love what they do with Johnny.
I love everything. I'm a smart guy in this movie
too. Can I just say that?
I mean, like, what a what a brilliant choice to like not
just try to make him Evans, but like younger.
(41:07):
He's way better. Than he he he's way.
Better than Evans ever was in the world.
Way. Better.
And they also keep they also keep things you love about
quintessential. Yes, Johnny in this movie too.
By the way, Ian. Grotman was There you go.
(41:28):
I would love to see. I would love to see him in
doomsday night. My man's looking good.
He's looking. Good.
I think you're going to. I think you're going to.
And listen, don't let anybody fool you.
If if you if you have to be a a homework guy, you'll understand
then how powerful Sue Storm is. She is one force not to be
(41:53):
reckoned with. Oh yeah.
She is impeccable. Here's the last thing I'll say,
have to be fair. If I'm James Gunn, I get Matt
Jackman on the phone. That's a filmmaker right there.
That's a spectacle filmmaker right there.
James, you say none of them are last.
I see one. I see one.
(42:16):
And and I'll tell you something.I love people on this channel,
but I want DC to thrive. James, not only is there a
spectacle filmmaker out there, he did it better than you.
Get him on the phone. Get him on the phone right now.
What? Give him lanterns, give him GL,
give him GL. He did a better.
(42:38):
Hey, give, give him Wonder Woman.
You know, who knows? Two good movies. 2 good movies.
Give him wonder, Woman. Give him wonder.
Woman GG. Same guy.
I did one division on Wonder Woman.
I love it. Sure.
GGGL. Is that all?
Yes, his repertoire right now isjust wine division in this.
(43:07):
In general in, in his career, those are the the biggest, yeah.
Those are his biggest, biggest things.
He directed some episodes of Game of Thrones, It's Always
Sunny, the great. But his his his biggest things
right now are as of late. It's it's yeah, it's it's that
(43:29):
foreign wine division. Has he done a movie besides F4?
No, he he did a movie called CutBank 2014 small film.
It's his first movie ATV to filmfilmmaker and look what he
delivered. It's very impressive, very
(43:51):
impressive, James. Very impressive.
He loves finding talent, right? What we're we're going down,
we're going down a rabbit. Hole they don't have Shakman
locked up. They don't have talent locked
up. Matt Shakman's not locked up.
It's it's unfortunately or for better or for worse, it's it's
it's the Russos for the next couple years who have control of
(44:12):
everything. So if they don't lock up Matt
Shakman, James. Unless, of course, they announce
Fantastic Four Second Stairs about a week later.
After this. Movie or whatever you want to
say, you know, second steps, I don't know whatever you want to
say, but man, no, I think it's probably a pretty great way to
(44:34):
probably put a step on us. And this is completely spoiler
free. So thank you to everyone who
tuned in to stay here, Our thoughts on the movie.
