(00:00):
No. Hello, everyone, and welcome to WDW Happy Hour. I am Catherine. I mean...
We're here live on the D23 Expo floor.
We just found out there's an effects section of the pod meeting.
This is... We like how Catherine's doing right now?
(00:23):
Will this really be on the episode? I want it to be.
Yes, it will. Well, this is the most unconventional podcast I think we've ever
recorded because four of the five of us are in one bed right now. I mean, not in the bed.
Scott is probably in his bed in Pennsylvania.
Matt, please stop playing sound effects.
(00:44):
Only if, Catherine, if it warrants it, I'm going to do it. Okay.
We're talking about... If we give a bad opinion, are we going to get through it? Yeah.
We're talking about the D23 Expo. We decided that the four of us have been out
here for, at this point, a week.
And we have a lot to talk about. I felt like we lived here.
I think we remember being in Pennsylvania at this point. We are recording this
(01:07):
right after the Disney 23 Horizons Parks panel wrapped at the Honda Center.
Like, right after. 10.04 p.m. Pacific.
It should be said that we are waking up bright and early to fly back to the
East Coast. and we are dying to just really just tear through this,
but we felt it necessary to give you guys the highlights and our takeaways.
(01:31):
That being said, we are going to do a trip review on our next episode.
We'll get more into what we did this week, but we truly wanted to focus all
on like the parks news that was just announced tonight.
You're getting a quick and dirty review and highlights.
Okay. So Rob, do you want to like- Yeah, so I'm going to use Scott,
and we've referred to him on the pod plenty of times.
(01:53):
Scott Gustin, I believe Orlando-based, but his Twitter feed is chronological here.
Yeah. Screenshots and just quick synopsis. So they do a bunch of entertaining things.
First thing they announce is Disneyland 70th coming up.
And the first thing they talk about is Avatar coming to Disneyland Resorts.
(02:15):
So we get Avatar coming to Disney California Adventure.
That was the extent of it. Yeah, it looked like a way of water thing.
It's based on way of water and is not going to be the same as Orlando,
which seems it's going to be like a water-based ride, which is not.
Yeah, and we could supplement this with it because he's not putting a ton of details there.
(02:35):
Yeah, no, no, no. Oh, so it seems like the perfect source.
So we are not going to get an exact clone of Pandora that we have in Florida,
which I'm excited about.
Yeah, it doesn't need to be the same. The one picture, it looked more thrilling than a...
The water ride? But it did look like a water ride. But it did look like a water
(02:58):
ride. Yes. We're getting a lot of water rides.
Yeah, and I should say that, oh my God, the amount of freaking musical acts
that they put in between every announcement.
Every announcement was bookended, had a beginning and end with a cumbersome musical.
Goes like they had pentatonics they had megan trainer they had pentatonics again
(03:21):
it was just like it was so ridiculous yeah there were a lot of filler it was
filler john stamos yeah okay so
then we stay at california adventure and we're gonna get a coco ride breaking ground in 2026.
I said so here's a
(03:41):
great one where are they gonna put this they they did not give they did not
give of indication about where this stuff is going because in the current like
landscape of dca not a lot of room yeah there's a little bit of room down by
like where like the philhar magic,
muppets used to be like where that might mean monsters inc rides going away
(04:05):
like down in that same possibility yeah like because that's that's the only
like three or four potential open real estate.
And correct me if I'm wrong, concept art for this also looked like a water ride.
Yes, they said it's a water ride. I said it looked like a re-theme of Three Caballeros.
(04:25):
I hope it's better than that. They said lots of new animatronics.
We're getting a lot of animatronics, so that's cool.
So we do not have that in Caballeros. But it looks like a slow-moving boat ride.
Yes. I don't think it's going to be thrilling.
I'm wondering those animatronics I know on the floor, I don't I don't know if
you saw the Elsa, the new animatronic. Very impressive.
(04:47):
It was in the Imaginary Pavilion. Oh.
Yeah, much better than the projected faces we have now in the Frozen.
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. We go through Frozen and she doesn't have a face.
No, I like that. She's glitching out.
I'll say you glitching. Okay, so nothing for Disneyland Park proper, correct?
(05:12):
Okay. No, I'm saying... Oh, I don't? I'm saying there was nothing in us, right?
Yes. We have the Walt Disney animatronic taking over the Lincoln Theater.
Sorry. Yeah, that was shortly after this. You seen me up there.
I knocked it down. Yeah, so then we moved to Walt Disney World.
We're getting Disney Starlight, a new nighttime parade.
(05:33):
The art from this one. debuts summer 2024 at Magic Kingdom featuring Peter Pan
and Kanto, Frozen, and more. Are you sure summer 2024?
That would be our soonest like implementation if that is true because I don't
think anything's sooner than
that except for like Tiana in Disneyland is going to be sooner than that.
(05:56):
I believe this is when we got our first Pentatonix dose.
Yeah, they did all of the Nighttime Spectaculars. Great.
Okay so yeah then the next thing was the walt animatronic coming to disneyland
park so that's going to be in the spot where great moments of mr lincoln and
and interestingly so like for the when they first debut it i don't know if they said for how long,
(06:19):
it's just going to be the wall like i don't know what the name is but it's essentially,
walt is going to be addressing an audience talking about disneyland presumably
then after a specified period of time, then it's going to switch back and forth.
It's going to be seasonal where it's like sometimes it'll be Walt,
sometimes it'll be back to Lincoln.
So the quote from the tweet is, the first ever Walt Disney audio animatronic
(06:43):
is coming to Disneyland.
Walt Disney, A Magical Life, will debut inside Main Street Opera House in rotation
with great moments with Mr. Lincoln.
Yeah, but at first it's going to be just Walt and then they're going to rotate it.
I would love them to just like flip the stage midway and just do like half Walt, half Abe.
(07:05):
Well, like in the middle of the show, just a jarring transition and four score and seven.
Yeah. And did.
Did we say on here or? Might have been offline.
Offline that, because they go into stuff coming to Disneyland Paris.
We're not covering that.
Right. Yeah, we're not going to really get into the cruise lines.
(07:28):
We got a little bit of cruise line news, and we're not going to really get into
the Fortnite news either. Listen, guys, we want to go to bed, all right?
If you want the international stuff, go on Twitter or whatever.
We're staying straight domestic, and we're not talking about Fortnite.
But I will just say about Fortnite, My God, did they yammer on about Fortnite
for what seemed like a full hour of this three-hour presentation.
(07:51):
They were holding a gun to the back of Pete Docter's head when he was talking
about it. And Pete Docter's like, I love it. My kids play it.
And it's like, I'm totally into this. This is great. World-building storytelling.
Sucked. All right. They move to Animal Kingdom.
And we get what was probably the least surprising, right, of the news.
(08:13):
Indiana Jones Coming to Oh
what's his name The guy who played short round Yeah He comes out and is the
guest conductor Oh that's fun What did everyone do after he was He's in a like
full on tux We love that We do love that,
(08:35):
So Indy at Animal Kingdom Will be I love that you didn't even say You're just
launching into it, but you didn't say that it was Indiana Jones.
You just went into short. I think he did.
Oh, did you? Yeah, he did. Okay. You were just so focused on the freaking special
effects that you were. Special effects.
Yeah. Will be completely new story.
(08:57):
Tropical America's construction begins this fall. Oh, here, there's our house.
I think what you're saying is.
Implementate. We're actually going to see something. Yes. So,
well, up front, they basically said this is going to be one of two...
One of two attractions that's coming to what once was Dinoland, right?
(09:18):
And they're saying, like, it's going to be a beautiful Mayan, like, Mayan temple.
The Mayan temple is the indie stuff. And then people are like,
oh, we understand what the other attraction is going to be. Like, it was pretty obvious.
Yes. So, a lot of this stuff I'm reading for the first time because we were
trying to listen to a... stream.
(09:39):
A buffering stream on an iPhone in the middle of a... On Harbor Boulevard. Yes.
Pretty successful. Thanks to whoever that was who streamed that illegally on YouTube.
Yeah. Shout out. So it says here, Tropicals America will begin in the fall.
Work will be in phases to make sure fans can enjoy Dinosaur.
(10:02):
It seems like maybe they're not going to work on Dinosaur, the Indie ride first.
Maybe they'll do the Encanto ride first.
Which brings us to Encanto, right? So I'm trying to read through here.
They're saying tropical Americas will open in 2027.
The entire land opens in 2027 and the work will be done in phases,
(10:23):
which means work should start first on Encanto.
The carousel and land in Dinosaur will likely close later.
So they're going to roll this out in phases. Well, yes, and also they're going
to showcase as part of this the Encanto house.
And they did go into some details about the ride, about like...
(10:45):
Well, that's the ride. Yeah, the ride is the house, yeah.
It's the day that... The kid gets his... Emilio gets his powers that he can
talk to animals, so you're going to go through the house. It sounds awesome.
It sounds really cool. That sounds really cool. I'm very into this.
I mean, we've said it.
That area of the park is just, it's dead. It's a wasteland. It's, yeah.
(11:08):
It is a wasteland. And they're also adding a carousel. They're changing it to
something Esperanza, Via Esperanza, something like that. Yeah.
We're going to have a whole new archway. Big dining area. They were talking about this.
Yeah, lots of new food. If I'm to interpret this correctly, that carousel is replacing the dig zone?
(11:32):
Yes, it looks like the boneyard. The boneyard. Thank you. Of course.
My favorite attraction, the boneyard. Oh, man.
That means that the digging in Dinoland, we're going to forever retire that song.
I don't think they play that anymore. Oh, I play it at home.
Okay. We get the opening for Tiana's Bayou Adventure at Disneyland on November 15th.
(11:57):
There's no snoring effect on the soundboard.
I'm going through. No, no, no. Going back to Animal Kingdom,
like Tree of Life. Oh, yeah. I bet that is that up next?
It's not yet. Thank you for the preview. Zootopia show at Animal Kingdom opens winter 2025. 25.
(12:18):
What is taking so long?
Yeah, that is... I hope these sound effects get it.
Scott's going to be listening to this tomorrow morning at his parents' house,
and he's going to be like, they really blew it.
Guys, just to know, Scott probably does not sign off on this,
but Scott was like my... We were like in another panel.
(12:41):
We did go to the Win or Lose panel. Matt and I did, which we didn't think we were going to make.
So I was like, Scott, you need to be the one to tell me what's going on.
So I had Scott texting me what was happening during this panel and another friend
of ours who is like truly the most positive person we know texting me.
So I was getting a very pessimistic view from Scott and a very optimistic view from our other friend.
(13:04):
And it just made for the perfect balance.
Wait, what are you saying that this recording is not Scott's sanction?
No, I'm just saying like he's probably like, oh my God, they added sound effects
and I'm not on this podcast, but he'll, he'll be listening tomorrow morning. I.
First. And by the way, I'm not doing any editing on this. This is going straight to market.
(13:25):
We're raw-dogging this one. Yeah, from my iPhone to your ears,
you're getting the raw and cut.
The last stop is Zootopia. Apparently, the Zootopia thing's taking forever.
It's just tomorrow's exact quote. Apparently, the Zootopia thing's taking forever.
Now we got Pirate's Bar right up our alley at Magic Kingdom coming in In 2025.
(13:52):
Yeah, okay.
This, I don't think any of us saw the concept art. I saw it.
This looks like legit a bar.
Yeah, I saw it. And people, I was watching the YouTube stream.
And people in the chat were like, oh, cool. Wow.
And being really pessimistic. I'm like, I'm psyched for this.
(14:14):
This is right up my alley. That's cool.
I know they made an effort to show kids in there. But also, like,
the adults have mugs in front of them, which leads me to believe, like. It's booze.
Yes. Well, you got to have rum. Yeah, that's true. Get those kids out of there.
Thank you, Rhett. Speaking of lounges and bars, Spaceship Earth Lounge will
(14:37):
open soon, quote unquote, in 2025 at Epcot. Again.
Oh, again, we didn't see the concept art. Phenomenal. I saw it.
I think they actually put deer.
I know. You don't get why I was skating away. They put somebody in the concept art.
(14:57):
When I first said that is our friend.
Is that not his back? It's like him mixed with me. It is shocking.
We have a friend who's a cast member who we're trying to maintain his privacy
and identity. but if you see someone in the concept art where his back is facing
(15:21):
you, it looks like he and I combined.
So when I heard lounge, I thought, oh, is this DVC lounge just like somewhere to hang out?
No, this is straight up a bar lounge, right? Where the guy's shaking a cocktail. Yeah, exactly.
He looks like the guy, what's the movie? Jennifer Lawrence and...
(15:44):
Sorry. Bradley Cooper? Chris Pratt. Travelers? No. Passengers. Passengers.
Which one does he look like? He looks like the, you know how they had the bartender?
No, I never saw Passengers. Okay, never mind. All right.
Nonsuckwitter. This is WDW Happy Hour, your premier Passengers podcast.
Home of Nonsuckwitters. Yeah. They gave a bunch of, a look of the Encanto attraction.
(16:12):
Oh, then we get Billy Crystal on stage for the announcement of Monsters, Inc.
Land coming to Disney's Hollywood Studios, which no one saw coming.
No, this was out of the blue.
This came out of the left, like, whoo. Out of the James P. Sullivan blue.
I'm selling Scott up the river right now because he's not here to defend himself.
(16:35):
Don't you dare. What are you saying? I'm saying the fact that he was like,
I didn't even, I saw your text over, I was reading over your shoulder.
And he goes, I didn't even recognize him. He's so old. And I'm like,
he looks exactly the same. He thought it was John Williams.
I'm like, my man, he thought, he thought my freaking Billy Crystal was John Williams.
But, so Billy Crystal comes out. So he's a little ditty.
(16:58):
Yeah, of course. As he's one to do. And then we get the announcements that it's Monsters, Inc.
Doors Coaster. And this is going to be the first suspended, right?
You'll go into the factory.
(17:18):
Okay, and we're back. Oh, geez.
No editing. Can you please, I swear to God, I will break your hand if you start
trying to add those gosh darn sound effects.
No, don't worry. I just clicked the wrong button. We're good. We're back.
So as we were talking about, Billy Crystal, we've got a Doors roller coaster,
(17:40):
first suspended roller coaster ever on Disney property.
Yeah. I think any, yeah. On any Disney.
Yeah, you're saying the same thing. Yeah, the first Disney suspended coaster,
which is like not really like they've had suspended coasters since Batman the
ride in like the 90s at freaking Six Flags. But I guess, you know, whatever.
(18:03):
It's cool to have to for Disney to have one. So we had a hearty discussion around this and.
Where do we think this is going? I'm going to go with Indiana Jones.
I'm saying spectacular. I'm saying Grand Avenue. I think they're taking out Muppets 3D.
I think it's going to be backed by like Mom and Melrose. I actually think Mom
(18:25):
and Melrose might close as a result of this.
Yeah, I mean, it's weird because you wouldn't think.
Right now, you have Star Tours as the adventure continues in this island unto
itself, right? And then in between that, you have the Muppets Pavilion,
you have Mama Melrose, and you have a bit of Grand Avenue.
(18:45):
And then it goes into Star Wars Galaxy's Edge. So the whole thing is like,
you're thinking like, wouldn't they want to expand more Star Wars stuff there
to fit the continuity, right?
Although, you already have a Pixar land where you have Slinky Dog Coaster and
the other various stuff, Toy Story Mania.
(19:06):
Wouldn't it make more sense thematically for that to be an extension of that
and just build backwards that's Toy Story,
that's totally separate so the Toy Story land you don't think that Monsters Inc land is unless,
nor they could put it Launch Bay, that's a huge empty spot, there is nothing
(19:30):
over there in between Rock and Roller Coaster and One Man's Dream That whole area is open. Right.
They could raz that whole area. Truly. There's nothing there.
All of a sudden, it doesn't sound that bad, guys.
Well, but that, yeah. I just don't think of that as like. I don't think that's
the case, though. No, I'm thinking.
(19:51):
Muppets 3D. Based on the art, it feels very Grand Avenue.
Yeah, but the ride itself looks awesome.
For so that's one of the things for
all these announcements we didn't get any i
like they didn't even acknowledge that things
(20:12):
were closing or like oh no well why would they no
no but they have in the past yeah well jesus they
did the great movie ride was the day up like it
was like two days after they did it they did acknowledge the dinosaur dinosaur
well he did say you'll have have time to ride dinosaur yeah which basically
is all but saying dinosaur is no longer it will be a countdown to extinction
(20:35):
ctx yeah all right so what do we got now then we move over to,
magic kingdom and probably again i mean we we speculated that something was
going to happen in this vector of the park but we didn't have any idea it was
going to involve a property that's That's been in the parks for quite a bit of time,
(20:57):
not Magic Kingdom. It's going to be fun.
Nathan comes out on the screen, baby.
Cars is coming to Frontierland and Magic Kingdom. Two new attractions.
Construction will start early next year. Second attraction will be targeted
at younger children and families.
To be clear, this is not Radiator Springs.
(21:21):
But it seems very similar. the car the more e-ticket attraction seems to be
an off-roading you should bring your off-roading tires yes that's what Josh
told us okay cool I'll bring my off-roading tires Josh tomorrow.
The tweets leave a lot to be desired around that. So I'm trying to remember what.
(21:46):
So what do we think this is going behind Frontierland?
Yeah, but now we also know that there's also Villain's Land to be announced later in this panel.
Don't you think that is going beyond Frontierland?
I mean, I think the biggest question mark about all of these things are where
(22:08):
they're going. And I think those are the biggest question marks about a lot
of these announcements.
Here's the thing. They specifically said that the car stuff is part of the American
West going in Frontierland.
They never said exactly where the villains was going to be. Like,
maybe, like, they'll do...
(22:30):
My belief is this is going beyond Ariel's...
Like, behind New Frontierland. or New Fantasy Land? Correct. Yes.
What? No, nothing. I was just laughing at you. Oh. Okay. Thank you.
I think we have to turn off this. I'll admit it's Matt's watching it.
(22:51):
No, I'm not. I wasn't watching it at all. You're definitely watching it.
I wasn't giggling at that. I was giggling at Rob. I wasn't...
What was on was a structure fire to a local bar in Burbank and you think I'm
giggling at that? Yeah. A real psycho.
Let me... So this skips around, I don't know, work on the, so this goes back to Hollywood Studios.
(23:15):
Work is supposed to begin on the Monsters, Inc. land next year.
No opening time frame given. Okay.
They went into the whole cruise line thing. They went into the whole...
Oh, so we find out... Again, I don't know where this was.
We're going to get a new story within Millennium Falcon Smuggler's Run. I love that.
(23:39):
Oh, this is part of the Fortnite. night this oh yeah this
was based on the mandalorian and grogu story yeah
this was time again no timeline this seems
like the easiest thing to pop in out of everything because this
is fully it's digital program and i like
that he didn't say was this feloni who said this and he was like boy and he
(23:59):
was like he's like yeah it's coming to the the millennium falcon ride drunk
yeah he looks he looks a little slap he sounded a little toasty too and he's
like it's coming the Millennium Falcon ride.
I know that grin. And you're like, all right, bud.
That grin, that grin. Let's get you back. Let's get you back to the nursing
home, Dave. Yeah. Then they bring out Deadpool.
(24:24):
So was there nothing else in that that was not Fortnite related?
Everything was Fortnite related.
I know you want to talk about Fortnite. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
I'm just saying they were like, among that whole thing, they were like kind
of giving us drips and drabs of things that were not directly Fortnite related,
like the smugglers run overlay,
(24:45):
but I'm just trying to remember if there was anything else in that really ham
fist thing. I know, I know.
So then they bring out Deadpool, who was very entertaining.
He had a lot of fun inside jokes. He came out singing the Veggie Veggie Fruit Fruit song.
He made requests to put Deadpool in the park. It was a playful banter between him and Josh DeMauro.
(25:06):
I believe one of the lines was, I'm not going to beat...
I'm starting to sound like a broken Yeti here instead of a broken clock. It's a great line.
My prediction did not come true, by the way. What was your prediction?
I think I said they were going to x the Yeti.
Although they mentioned it a handful of times. I know. They know it's a problem.
Yeah. Oh, he also... Deadpool was not actually Ryan Reynolds.
(25:30):
Although it does sound like he did a voice. I think he probably did the recording
and then it was someone else's body. Yes, yes, yes, for sure.
But I think that he also did a couple jabs about the animatronic at Phantasmic,
the dragon catching fire. Yes. So Deadpool's here.
They talk more about having a Fortnite skin.
(25:50):
And then what happened after Deadpool? Then he came back out.
So then we get the whole Marvel stuff.
This is the parlaying to Marvel stuff I always like to point out some of the
things that it's like oh we might get it at some point down the line they did
announce a Spider-Man roller coaster in Shanghai Disneyland I know we were good
(26:12):
oh yeah there was a bunch of international stuff like the concept art like pretty,
amazing like if that goes down the pike at some point pretty cool.
Yeah, then we get Avengers Campus news, right?
So we get the first one, which is because on here.
So the first attraction we get is Avengers, colon, Infinity Defense.
(26:37):
Avengers, colon. No, it's a colon.
No, it's just funnier if it's called Avengers, colon. Yeah. Infinity Defense.
Especially with Ant-Man's colon. Yeah. It's either real big or real small.
And so this is the e-ticket that's been taking up so much real estate.
And let's just skip to the freaking the meat and potatoes of this.
(27:00):
They showed the ride vehicle.
They showcased that on the exhibition floor on day one.
It looks very similar to the ride vehicles that Universal has used on their
Spider-Man ride and Transformers ride.
And they're like, you're going to be able to see it.
You're going to to be able to see us working on it
(27:21):
starting next year we're going
to be able to see you starting to work on
it by next year this has been sitting
dormant for like five years this
is that's insane like what is what is
the hold up and so like it's just
insane and it's the same thing like nothing is thematically changed
(27:42):
they're still talking about like oh yeah whatever you're gonna
be you're gonna be freaking zipping through jump points with
king thanos and oh man wacky worlds
and storytelling and robert downey jr and so to placate us from being like okay
that's ridiculous what have you guys been doing they're like but there's gonna
(28:03):
be another ride so they're like we're doing a fourth ride to which catherine
immediately was like and i was thinking it's So you're just like, wait,
fourth ride? What's the third ride?
And it's Guardians of the Galaxy Mission Breakout. And then you've got the Spider-Man ride.
I hope this doesn't mean they're taking away the...
(28:23):
That really huge space, like the Animation Academy, where Tarot Top-Up crashes.
You know that huge room that's just in the air conditioning?
Yeah. I love that. I hope they don't take that away. I unfortunately just don't
know enough of that. That's cool.
No, no. What I'm saying is I don't know enough of that. Vector. Vector.
(28:43):
Yes. Great word. To really analyze what they announced. Again,
it's speculation on where these things are all going because they didn't get specific.
They didn't show like diagrams of where they would go in the place.
They showed a jump point for these, I guess.
They surely did show a jump point, but let's talk about what this fourth ride is.
(29:04):
The fourth one is called Stark Flight Lab, and they show a picture of new technology.
No, but they keep saying new technology. They show a picture of a friend of the pod, Bob Iger.
And can i say start what can i
say what this looks like the oh never
mind you already said it oh wow so the ride
(29:26):
vehicle looks like they're two to a c and
then you have like a robotic arm and it's like swinging
and going kind of inverted like you know how you know
how mission space like even though mission space has
four people across picture two but it's open and
there's a robotic arm that's like freely moving and kind of like spinning around
(29:48):
it looks kind of intense and so they showed bob eiger in there and then they're
like oh and he had to call buddy robert downey jr and they picked the most unflattering
still of robert downey jr riding this spot bob's.
Photogenic as ever and robert downey he has the like like i just dropped the
(30:08):
deuce on my like Like, look on his face.
Robert Downey Jr. looks ridden hard and put away wet riding the prototype of this ride.
This, that, that ride vehicle, harness, everything, that indicates, like, an inversion.
Yeah, you're going outside that. Well, they were showing... Like,
(30:29):
that's intense. But they showed... You got the whole crotch thing and, like, the shoulder.
Well, before they showed this still picture of Bob in it, they were showing video.
No, no, no. They were actually showing like it almost looked like wireframe
computer generation of what the motion of that ride vehicle would look like.
And yeah, I mean, it didn't show full inversion, but I think it did show a lot
(30:53):
of like a lot of kind of erratic movement.
So yeah, I mean, I'm curious about this one. This one seems kind of intense and I'm into that.
It looks cool. But I mean, again, did they say when? I think they said we would
see construction starting next year.
And that's the... And that's the tea.
(31:18):
We've been beating this drum for how long? When they announced the $60 billion
investment in the parks?
Yeah. How long would this take to see fruition?
So then finally they do the whole, oh, we think that's going to be the end.
(31:41):
Oh, and then Deadpool comes back out and does like a prayer with some girl from American Idol.
And then a Deadpool that looks like Madonna comes out too. It's so freaking weird.
You have a freakish memory when it comes to like certain details like that.
Wait a second. Is that real?
Yes, 100%. I think I was in the shower. Was I? Yes. Okay. It felt like a fever joke.
(32:02):
I was like, oh, your joke. I hate when you make these kind of jokes. I wish it were.
I wish I were just making a joke, but that really happened, my dude.
We get Josh doing a whole bunch of jokes with... Deadpool.
No, no, with... Well, okay, well, that was... So he said, but you didn't think
we'd end the... I bet you guys didn't think we'd end the show with Deadpool, did you?
(32:25):
And then the lights dim, the magic
mirror appears behind josh and he says and he
goes and he's like you and paraphrasing is like
but you've been making a lot of promises about
a a land and he's like what do you mean what promises he's like a promise about
a land that's twisted and crazy from the twisted minds that brought you cars
(32:51):
land and then it's like everyone's like oh they're doing villains land And then just tomorrow's like,
we're doing villains land and everyone's like.
So everyone's clapping. As the Holly and Catherine give each other looks of
(33:11):
like, we're about to go to bed.
So, yes. So we get not much here.
We get concept art, Villain's Land, and Magic Kingdom. We get no indication of the location.
This is a quote from Josh DeMauro. This space will be home to two major attractions,
(33:31):
interactions dining and shopping on an
incredibly twisted grand scale twisted
they used twisted a bunch of times it was quoted
to ease and he he also said
something like a place where happily ever
after is but a distant memory no
(33:52):
no there was a funny tag on i forget
get what it was though god villains no
it was it was something like we just
roger's man i just got robbed to
do a spit take it's just like this whole thing was so out of touch like there
were some really exciting things oh and i wish that like i was more excited
(34:14):
about this but it's like it's gonna be so far away this was oh didn't they say
like 2029 no but But this was a quote that our jaws,
I had to pick up our jaws collectively off to the ground.
Construction has already started. What? Where?
Yeah. It's twisted.
(34:35):
That construction. Is this underground? Is this in the Utilidors that we haven't
seen? Oh, yeah. It's wild. We've got it twisted.
Imagine yours. Mine is like the will to fail. Hold on. Let me.
The will to fail. If that's not the tagline, please, Josh DeMauro,
listen to this podcast and make the tagline to this new land.
(34:57):
The will to vill.
This is wild. Oh. The cut, again.
Let's get back on task here. Horror. Well, he said, like, the next five years
with the construction, it's going to take longer than five years. Definitely.
(35:18):
A hundred percent. Yeah. It's going to be. Why tell us five years? Yeah, I know.
Take on another two or three years. The cuts of the art makes it look very watery.
Tree there is a rather large water
area within this land i love
rob a decent gin and
(35:39):
tonic deep trying to just trying to describe
trying to give it a really deep description
of the concept art we get zero indication of
where this is well yes based on the concept like you
cannot distinguish wish that this looks
like it'd be on some other planet for
right i mean is anybody looking at or like i
(36:01):
think we are going to be getting a
bridge i think here's my here's my initial thought we're getting a like behind
haunted mansion oh that's like i think twisted like i think cars will be right
off to the side of Big Thunder.
(36:21):
I think there's going to be a walkway. I think they're going to do like what
they did in Disneyland with Galaxy's Edge and it's going to be in that back
vector and it'll connect like the cars to your rides to like.
Beast castle like back behind yes and
that's a little parking lot back there current yeah
i mean that's like they're in c probably yeah like it's
(36:43):
cast you know parking we were
back there when we did the the keys of
the kingdom tour and you got like you see where the
the cast members are entering so
there is a ton of space that could
be used back there so yo by the way if i had my of druthers
and i was saying this when we watched phantasmic at
(37:05):
disneyland resort the other night i want a
gigantic churnabog animatronic
the the actual demon from the
night on bald mountain segment of fantasia that thing is so scary and i just
want to like a gigantic churnabog and this villain's they can do a really good
(37:26):
nighttime show that's right and they could do something specific to like this
is villains only or like phantasmic and Mickey loses.
With Matt talking about Chernobob, that would be a really cool nighttime show
back there or wherever it goes.
Phantasmic but Mickey loses. Oh man. Someone zoomed in on the concept art,
(37:49):
which I absolutely love.
Psychos who do the same thing as me and it's I Spy a Villain's Roller Coaster.
It's like a thorny roller coaster.
Going through the land, which is... I'm thinking it has to do with Sleeping
Beauty. That seems like 1%. That's very Maleficent. That looks like a briar.
Yeah. It looks like a briar. I've got the will to vill, that's for sure.
(38:10):
This girl's got the will to vill.
It's just interesting, like, what two attractions there, I mean...
Again, definitely Horned King from frickin' the Black Cauldron.
Do they take out stuff? Do they take out, like, a barn stock?
A barn stock? No, see, the thing is, the problem is that that's new fantasy
(38:32):
land and new storybook circuit.
Like, that's relatively new stuff. Okay. And they're not going to take out Haunted Mansion.
So, like, it's like, like, that stuff in the back is, I think,
they're just going to have to. It's going to go beyond it. It's going to be like.
Beyond Magic Kingdom. It's going to be just like Galaxy's Edge at Disneyland.
You know. When they did with that, they connected everything.
(38:54):
It would be a nice little transition after, like, past Haunted Mansion. Yeah.
Yeah, you could make Haunted Mansion like the entryway into the land.
Like have it be like you walk through there and... Yeah.
So one thing I thought we were going to get that we didn't, just in light of
one of the announcements yesterday
that I didn't care for, and that's the live-action Lilo and Stitch movie,
(39:17):
I was like, God, does this mean they're taking Stitch's great escape off life support?
Because that's just been... Yeah, that's wild that that's just sitting there empty.
Yeah, and then... Still. I mean, there's that whole, I mean,
if we're talking about places where things could go, the only thing,
like, you've got Space, I'm talking about Magic Kingdom on the East Coast.
(39:39):
You've got Space Mountain, you've got the Tron Coaster.
You've got a whole bunch of stuff in there.
And sorry, not looking great for Carousel of Progress. And I'm talking about
Buzz Lightyear's Astro Blasters, the Carousel of Progress, Monsters, Inc.
Laugh Floor and Stitch that it's like that's like dead real estate.
(40:02):
And you've got all these things you're trying to put in. Is there a chance that
like fantasy or I'm sorry,
Tomorrowland just gets kind of truncated and shrunk down where it's basically
like it starts almost over by where Space Mountain is.
Oh, and Tron. And Tron. And then you just kind of, you basically shrink down
(40:23):
to Marley. No, no, no, no, no, no.
You gotta walk through the arch to get through to Marley. It's the four cardinal points of the park.
Can we, so that was like the last big announcement, right?
Yeah. Okay, so can we all go through and say what we're most looking forward
to out of what was announced? Fortnite.
Okay you don't get to go in oh you
(40:44):
put me on the spot i will say the monsters inc suspended coaster seems awesome
i did not expect anything from hollywood studios the fact that it is a ride
that seems like that's pretty thrilling a property a land that we've never had like a really good
ride from give give me more
(41:06):
adult oriented oh you like those a lot high thrill okay rides and and this isn't
the tron rethread of like oh we're getting the tron from shanghai right this
is brand new this is brand new.
So, yeah, I don't want to steal you. And then if, if, go ahead,
(41:28):
Hall, and then go. For me, it has to be villains.
Oh, got villains. Villains, man. I mean, I think that's going to be,
like, huge and amazing. So, yeah, great, great answer there.
And then probably the Marvel stuff, too.
I mean, like, to see that.
To see Bob Iger and Tony Stark himself. I mean, like, pooping his pants.
(41:52):
And we're kind of dunking on all this like Marvel stuff only because it's been
dragged out for so long because it's so far away.
But just think about how good of a job they did with.
Webslingers. Yeah. No, no.
I was going to say with with Guardians of the Galaxy Cosmic Rewind.
Great point. Great point. So good. I mean, Webslingers is a freaking dud. It sucks.
(42:15):
I mean, it was two years since we did it. Like that name across my mind of like,
oh, I need to do Webslingers.
I could literally never do that again. For me, it's like a one and done. Yeah, and we did it.
And you won it and you done it.
You done it. You done it. Matt, did you actually answer? Oh,
(42:36):
yeah. Yeah. Yeah, for sure. Oh, absolutely.
Oh, my God. I cannot wait to see Doctor Doom in the next Fortnite.
Can't wait. The FU's are quite excited about this. I actually think he's not
really into Fortnite anymore.
I don't know. He goes through phases that like he was really into having all
the Star Wars characters on Fortnite.
So I'm sure he'll be into like Goofy, whatever.
(43:00):
I will just say that what a weird display that was. They brought out like what
is like the Disney equivalent of like the heads of state.
Like they brought out Pete Docter. The secretaries. Yeah. They brought out Pete
Docter. They brought out Feige. They brought out...
And Jennifer Lee. And it looked like they were being held hostage and being
(43:21):
like, talk about how sick Fortnite is.
And all of them were like, basically some version of like, well,
my 10-year-old plays it. And sometimes I watch them and they seem to be really into it.
And then they had to like pretend to be excited for this like terrible corporate synergy.
I actually think the most cringey thing that happened tonight was when they
(43:41):
were talking about the cruise line and John and Tamara goes,
no this isn't just a promise he moves aside and it's all for one and they're like i swear.
Oh my god that was horrible like that
was i would love i would love to see that pitch meeting again
all for one
(44:02):
you know the kids love it let's yeah and josh tomorrow's like
are people into this and they're like yes they're like
oh my god they love it they love they love all
for one just as much as they love fortnight it is
it is a wild time we're living in i don't
even know simulation did we say that we weren't there tonight
i mean like i don't think we directly said that if
(44:23):
you listed our prior episodes you knew we weren't going to it tonight but no
we weren't there and you know what we told joss tomorrow that friday night when
we saw him in the uh in in the lobby of the grand california we run into this
man when he said yeah when he said are you good he said are you guys is going
to my show tomorrow night.
And Catherine goes, no, we had a... I'm... What you said, like,
(44:47):
I had some... I had a little bit of trepidation about the transportation.
Getting to and from the Honda Center. You could just see that in his mind,
he was like... He was taken aback by... It was the one moment of,
like, pure honesty of someone that didn't work for him.
And he was like, oh, well, it's going to be awesome.
And we're like, well, hope it is.
(45:08):
It's gonna be awesome we're gonna have all for one so when they came back from
last night again you'll have to listen yeah we'll do we'll do a follow up in two weeks and.
He and I 100% exchange glances. Of like, I don't know. Oh, yeah.
Like, oh, this is that guy.
Joe Schmuck. That little schmuckie from Pennsylvania.
(45:31):
Yep. Yeah, very nice. I will say he was very kind. I mean, like,
Iger vibes. Like, the four of us have met Iger before.
I would say he has the riz that Iger has of just, like, being super diplomatic and really good.
So let's wrap this up so I can go to Ben. then how do we rank this?
(45:53):
Better than the last two years. I'm saying give it a letter grade.
Not as good as 2017. That's not a...
I'm ranking the last four years that I've seen. 2017 was the best.
I think this follows behind it. And then 2019 and last...
So give it a C, a B. A C, like a B.
(46:14):
Yeah, I was going to say, It's the high watermark. A is 2017.
This is, yeah, B, B minus. Isn't it so weird that they're still definitely trying
to figure out how to do this?
Because, like, you went from 2017, which was an awesome announcement year.
But half that shit didn't happen.
That is true. So it's like, is that that great of an announcement?
(46:36):
Yeah, well, the Marceline Theater on me and, like, you didn't get half of the stuff.
Great, you said great, you cursed, and I don't know how to edit it.
I'm sorry we're just gonna put the E sorry don't
listen to this with your kids Catherine says 48 minutes in Catherine says the
S curse sorry sorry but so like I mean like if these things are actually gonna
(47:00):
happen we can like you know manage expectations it's a good thing okay so.
What doesn't happen, I guess, in that guy's house. Oh, the Fortnite stuff's
happening. I have a hot take.
Go ahead. I think the car stuff might not happen.
I think it's a lot of room in Magic Kingdom for if they have to choose the villain
(47:23):
stuff or the car stuff, if it's like one or the other, if there's a finite amount
of room, I think one of those things doesn't happen.
I think they'll have a much better time. We know something's not going to happen.
Yeah, something won't happen.
Yeah, I mean, 100%. Some of this stuff does not happen. Yeah.
Like, this... Yeah, 100%.
(47:44):
So, one of these things is going to be, like, the Mary Poppins ride at Epcot.
We're just going to... That was 2019.
Yeah. We just threw out two. Yeah. Wait, what did you say?
We said about the new theater on Main Street. That was 2017.
Right, yeah. Like, so...
Yeah, I don't know. I don't know. The Cars thing is probably...
(48:04):
That's a good one. Do you think, here's tinfoil, do you think they know that
something's not going to happen? No.
No, no, no. And then they're like, well, that's not going to happen.
And we're just going to say something because we need to fill this time and
Meghan Trainor can't sing six minutes of Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes.
Catherine, Meghan Trainor is saying, feed the birds. Were you even watching?
(48:27):
Unfortunately, I was. Okay, well, that's interesting.
Any final thoughts? Last call. I don't think so.
We have a voluminous episode when we review this trip. We have done a lot. We met a lot of people.
Y'all know we like to watch for celebrities. We had a voluminous evening last night.
(48:48):
Voluminous. Voluminous. But you'll hear about that in two weeks because that's
not as time-sensitive as this.
So I guess the last thing to say is cheers. Cheers. Cheers.
Oh, you know what I should have done? I should have said, I should have said,
I should have said, Cheers!
Cheers. Cheers.
