We've made it to the end of another Oscar season and future seasons have big shoes to fill. This season had a few modern classics that we've been looking forward to since we started this series. No Country For Old Men was one of those and it was worth the wait. There is a reason this best picture winner is so highly regarded. Javier Bardem gives the performance of a life time and the Coen brothers wrote, directed and edited a ...

We have been anxiously awaiting this season for a long time all because of these last two movies. This P.T.A. film has been on all kinds of "Best" lists since it came out 18 years ago and now that we've seen it, we don't see it going anywhere anytime soon. From its sweeping wide shots to its phenomenal cast we loved this film and loved discussing it even more. Check out where is falls in our rankings and let us know what you t...

The 2008 Best Picture line up had some heavy hitters that are still on people's lists of their favorite movies of all time. So when we saw a legal thriller smack dab in the middle of the stacked season, we were skeptical. However, Tony Gilroy's tight script and directorial debut, Michael Clayton, had us on the edge of our seats from the moment Tom Wilkinson's voice over started until we sat in disbelief in the back of the cab ...

Ready to be transported back to 2007 homeskillet? Between the soft ukulele of Kimya Dawson and the sharp Diablo Cody dialogue, Juno will take you there. This stacked cast delivers on a heartwarming coming of age story that made us all want a hamburger phone. The question is, did the age as well for all of us? Listen and find out!

We're back baby! We've got five new Best Picture nominees to talk about and this season kicks off with the hauntingly beautiful, Atonement. Listen as we discuss all things James McAvoy, the green dress, James McAvoy's bright blue eyes, the scene with the green dress, James McAvoy's yearning, the Oscar winning score, and again, James McAvoy. This may be our thirstiest episode yet. No apologies here.

Just when we thought we had our final rankings pretty much in the bag, Nickel Boys comes and changes everything. RaMell Ross's living piece of art took us all by surprise and moved us in ways we never expected. The performances were extraordinary, but the heart of the piece was in the direction and camera work. We'll be angrily shaking our fists for years to come that this didn't receive more nominations.

As we start to wrap up this Oscar season, we look at another Best International Feature nominee, the "firm" 'I'm Still Here' from Brazil captured our hearts with its beautiful performances and shook up our final ranks so close to the big night. We hope it is obvious that this is our preferred International Feature of the two nominated for Best Picture and hope it is yours too.

If you wanted someone to rave about this film, it ain't us babe. We left James Mangold's Bob Dylan biopic feeling very whelmed. We are forever team Timmy, but this movie waded in the shallow end the whole time and never let in too deep and thats all we wanted to do. What did you think? Is it worthy of its eight nominations? Also, give us some folk music recommendations!

The Brutalist left us a house divided. While we all were impressed by the cinematography, the performances and other aspects of the movie, the main question of "is it the journey or the destination?", left us standing confusingly on both sides of the track. When we disagree on things, we usually end up having the best conversation, so buckle up and tell us what you thought of The Brutalist.

Sean Baker's Anora took us all by surprise. Mickey Madison gives the titular character so much more than she is written and the screwball comedy of the second act was actually laugh out loud funny. However, we all agree that it should be industry standard/required that an intimacy coordinator be present on all sets for which one is necessary. Listen to all of thoughts on this and more!

What did you think of Anora? Let...

"Have you ever dreamed of a better version of yourself?" The Substance asks just how far will you go for youth and beauty. It critiques the pressure society puts on people, especially women, to be perfect. It also put us through the paces. Between the body horror, and the sound design the three of us were quite queasy while watching this, but that doesn't stop us from admiring the performances, the production design and the cr...

Fellow Ozians! Let us forget the "musical" we discussed last and instead, embark on a journey twenty years in the making. At its heart, Wicked is a story of friendship and who better to break it down and talk about it with than three best friends? Grab your besties finger and hold tight as we gush over the production design, costumes and casting. As well as criticize some of the lighting and directorial choices. By the time we...

It is rare that we truly despise a movie. We can usually find something we can spotlight, be it a performance, the costumes, or perhaps the cinematography. Not since Vice have we had such loud, hot angry thoughts. Emilia Pérez is the embodiment of what films should NOT be. Listen to us discuss how disappointed we are in this film and let us know what you thought of one of the most controversial movies of the year.

From the sands of Arrakis, to the secret turmoil of the lives of the most powerful men in the Catholic Church. Conclave served us some of the best actors of their generation throwing shade at each other while being lit and framed in some of the most beautiful shots of the year. Although somehow, this film is missing an Oscar nomination for Best Cinematography. Truly blasphemous.

Lisan al Gaib! Dune's triumphant return to the theaters far exceeded every expectation we had, elevating the already spectacular legacy Denis Villeneuve crafted with part one. The story and the production were as epic as the scope of the desert it was set in. While we are devastated by the small amount of nominations (We see you Denis Villeneuve, we see you!) we are so happy to start this season off with one of our favorite f...

Hi friends! We're closing out 2024 with a great Best Picture winner, and an episode that couldn't follow a linear thought if it tried. This season of our Oscar Rewind series was a mixed bag for us, but we all agree that of the films nominated, Slumdog Millionaire deserved the big win.

We'll be back in early 2025 for the return of our Conversations with Oscar series!

Sympathize with a nazi? No thanks! The Reader left us puzzled about what the film makers wanted us to feel. The movie has powerhouse performances all around, and we enjoyed the non-linear timeline, but we couldn't necessarily get behind feeling bad for someone who became a nazi because they couldn't read? They seduced a child because they couldn't read? Like we said, no thanks.

"My name is Harvey Milk, and I deserve a better Biopic!" Did we get that right? While we love what this film is about and appreciate it for being included in the conversation in the 2009 Season, we couldn't help but feel like this wasn't doing justice to Harvey Milk. It's hard to watch a movie about human rights when its cast is riddled with abusers (although to be fair, not all were known abusers at the time of making this mo...

The film adaptation of this stage hit, proved to be a powerhouse. The performances by such a stacked cast were phenomenal and led by the actors who brought down the house night after night on Broadway. Frost/Nixon succeeds because it keeps itself boxed in. It doesn't linger, or expound in unnecessary areas. We found watching this during the political climate to be an added layer to the experience.
