Belinda Ellsworth. Hey everyone, andwelcome to our Tuesday Tip. We
are still in the process of continuingin our top ten mistakes that people make
in businessiness and today is number sixand that is not focusing on marketing and
(01:06):
putting all of your focus on theproduct. Now, let's talk about that
for a minute. We know thateveryone really gets down and focuses on that
product and rightfully. So you needto have your product ready. You need
to have it prepared, you needto price it correctly. You know,
(01:29):
you need to make sure it's agood quality. I always say that's the
biggest two biggest things in business orthey can put people out of business is
not having a quality product and notdelivering it in a timely fashion. So
those are kind of two other thingsthat I trained When I'm consulting with a
company, I'm like, let's lookat that first, what is the quality
(01:49):
of that product? So what kindof returns are you getting? What kind
of complaints are you getting around that? Is it higher than you know,
x percent? As long as it'sonly about six percent, then were probably
okay. But if it's above that, let's take a look at either your
manufacturing, the quality of the product, the goods and how you're making it,
any of those things, and thenof course shipping it out in a
(02:14):
timely fashion. Do you have areally good system of getting that out the
door in twenty four to forty eighthours. Now, we know we can't
all be Amazon, and that's oneof the things, even as a small
business owner myself, that we strugglewith. But we do our absolute best
to get it out the door intwenty four to forty eight hours, because
(02:37):
that is an expectation that people haveand that they appreciate and that they're looking
for and they're excited about. Sothose are two things, especially around that
product and shipping, that you doreally want to think about. But you
also need to think about marketing. And when we talk about marketing, it
(02:58):
means yes, you've got a greatproduct, Yes you're ready to ship it,
and you are prepared, and maybeyou have this amazing warehouse area set
up and you are like, weare ready. But if you don't get
it in front of people, andespecially the right people, it really is
not going to make a difference.Because you could have the greatest thing in
(03:19):
the whole wide world, and ifnobody's seeing it, if nobody's paying attention,
if no one knows that it exists, it isn't going to matter.
For years, I used to havea little bubble on my wall that said,
see the people, because the morepeople that we can get our products
(03:42):
in front of, the more awarenessis going to be created, and more
people are going to want to purchaseyour product and then ultimately refer you to
others. So you need to thinkabout your marketing strategy. Of course,
there are many different ways that youwant to work on that marketing strategy,
(04:04):
but some of the basics are whatare you going to do in gathering leads?
So this is especially for online marketing, So what are you going to
be doing to gather leads? Thiscan also be for in person events as
well in marketing, so whether you'redoing a trade show or if you are
(04:25):
doing a pop up event of somekind, So you want a way to
capture those leads. You want away to get people excited. How are
you going to build your email list? So that is an important piece of
marketing is your email list. Andin fact, guys, your email list
is still king why because you ownit. No one can decide that they're
(04:49):
going to turn your page off,or it's going to go down, or
anything is going to happen to it. It's yours. So we want to
make sure that we're finding ways toget people involved with our community. So
part of our community is getting onthat email list. The second piece,
(05:10):
of course, is your social mediastrategy or marketing, and you want to
think about it not just about talkingabout your product all the time, but
what is your strategy to move peopleto your email list? What is your
strategy to get people to maybe signup for a drawing which could get you
on their email list. So that'sanother form of marketing, is an incentive
(05:33):
or a contest that gets people excitedand then they become part of your community
or your list. So that isanother way to market your product. Another
way, of course, is bygoing live and talking about that product.
But more importantly it goes back tosomething I've trained a long time ago on
(05:58):
a sales strategy, is you wantto make sure that you're marketing it and
not just describing it. And alot of people when they go live,
they spend a lot of time beingdescriptive and talking about how the product's made,
what the product does, how itworks, what it's made of,
like all those logistics, right, and you really want to hit that customer's
(06:25):
pain point. You want to talkto them in marketing about why they'd want
this part product, why they needthis product, what this product can do
for them. So it's benefits versusdescriptive and that's an important sales training tip.
But it's also important in the mistakesthat people make in business because they
(06:46):
forget to focus on it. Soour tip here is to remember to focus
as much on marketing as you doon your product. I'm not going to
say that your product isn't important, but marketing is equally as important. So
(07:08):
