authentic, amazing self. We divedeep into topics like color
theory, color analysis,Authenticity, and your signature
colors. I'm your host, Jen Vax,founder of your color style.
Welcome to the podcast.

(02:27):
Welcome to season four, EpisodeTwo of the your color style
podcast. Today we're going to betalking about the power of
wearing a signature color. Youknow, one of the things that I
love about color analysis andwearing color is that it can be
a true expression of self. Whenwe get excited about finding out

(02:52):
our you know, most flatteringcolors, we're given this full
color palette, this fullspectrum of colors, all the
colors that are going to beharmonious with your coloring,
skin tone, eye color, haircolor, but the reality is, is
that not all those colors aregoing to resonate with you. Just

(03:12):
because someone says that acolor will look good on you
doesn't mean that younecessarily want to wear it. It
could be for a variety ofreasons. But I believe it's
because we're always sort ofseeking who we are to our core
and how we want to put ourselvesout there. How do we want to
express ourselves and how do wewear color in a way that really

(03:35):
makes us feel like ourselves, not trying to be like someone
else not trying to be louder, bolder or quieter. Just being
true to your nature. And wearingthe colors that express that and
I think that for me is where theconcept of a signature color
comes into play. As I said whenyou first get your color type,

(03:58):
you get a full spectrum ofcolors. But even for me, I don't
wear all of them. I mean I knowthat what colors will flatter me
but I don't gravitate to allthose colors, I gravitate to
only a few. And although I don'thave any science or data to back
this up, I'm going to say thatthere is the 8020 rule being

(04:21):
applied here. Meaning that eventhough you have all those
colors, you're likely only goingto wear about 20% of those
colors 80% of the time. And theother colors are there for you
to experiment with and maybemaybe you decide that you'd like
something later on or you'reexperimenting with different
colors. So your signature color.
I define it in the colors thatare your go to colors. Now. I

(04:45):
would say that's different thandefaults. And the reason I say
that is because if you don'tknow what colors really might
flatter you and when I use theword flatter I being really in
harmony with your your skintone, your undertones, eye
color, what's what's going to bereally in harmony with you so

(05:08):
that when you wear that color,it enhances you versus
overpowering you or drainingyou. Right? A lot of people if
you don't know that, what thosecolors are will default to black
default to gray or a neutralbecause you don't know what else
to wear. But when you finallykind of figure out what your

(05:28):
color type is in your colorstyle, then you can start to
play around and you might startto gravitate towards certain
colors. those colors that yougravitate towards, are in a way
your go to colors and can becomeyour signature color. I use the
word signature because in a wayit is the colors that truly

(05:48):
reflect you and the statementthat you might want to make. So
let me give you an example. Igravitate a lot to coral pinks
and blushy pinks and maybepeaches even and brighter

(06:08):
watermelon Pink's brighterversions and lighter versions
I'm bright woman light in yourcolor style so where brighter
colors best the softer tonesdon't suit me, but I always
gravitate towards those. Andit's because I when I put that
color on especially like apeachy pink. It is extremely

(06:31):
flattering on me it picks up allthe right tones in my skin. I
put on some gold jewelry and Ifeel very pretty. You'll if you
see me on YouTube, I wear thosecolors a lot. If I'm on zoom
calls, I wear those colors alot. I just feel good and those
colors that look good on camera.

(06:52):
There you go. It's one of mysignature colors. It's also a
color that when people see acolor, they associate you with
it that's how you also mightknow that you have a signature
color. Another color that Igravitate towards and you can
have more than one signaturecolor by the way affecting your
color style. There are five andI will list those for you in a

(07:12):
minute. But I really alsogravitate towards TEALS and
turquoises and bright lightblues. I never used to I never
used to gravitate towards bluebut given that my eye colors
have a lot of the turquoise andTEALS and blues and greens in
it. It's another reallyflattering color and I will

(07:35):
gravitate always to a top withthat color or a sweater I just
they look it looks good on me Iknow it looks good. I mean I
always grab it so you alwayswill see me mostly in those two
colors. Your Signature colorscan also vary by season. So in
the summertime you'll see meoften wearing those coral pinks

(07:57):
and peaches and salmon colorsand peach pinks and you'll also
see me wearing those brighterturquoise colors in an TEALS and
the summer and warm weather Ishould say. But why go into cold
weather. I really start to dropa lot of the bolder colors and I
really feel more at home increams. Campbell Browns grew

(08:22):
charcoal Gray's black for pants.
I am a neutrals person all theway I love that look. I don't I
always feel it kind of isinappropriate for the warmer
weather. But when I get into thecolder weather, I start to
gravitate towards those mixes ofneutrals and you will see me
often in cream sweaters and topsand gold jewelry. It's not that

(08:45):
I don't wear color. But Idefinitely gravitate towards
those neutral colors. So I'mgiving you all these examples
about what I wear because I wantyou to start thinking about what
might be your signature colorsand kind of think about why is
that you feel good at it. Do youfeel powerful in those colors?
Do you feel more like yourself.

(09:06):
I also think about color whenwhen wearing color in creating
balance. I don't know if that'snecessarily true. But if you are
someone that has a very bright, loud personality.
I've seen people that enhancethat own it and wear bright,

(09:28):
brighter, louder clothes andit's perfectly it's perfect.
I've also seen people who havethat bright sparkly personality
but yet wear colors that balancethem almost I feel like I do
that a lot when I'm feeling likeI want to enhance my brighter
self. I'll wear brighter colors, but if I'm feeling like I just

(09:50):
want to just not really be outthere just kind of want to just
be me and not really performYou'll find me a lot in the
neutrals. Because that's I justfeels better for me. So your
signature colors they can, theycan represent you, they can

(10:12):
become an identifier for you, they could become the core self
expression, they could be thecore color to your wardrobe. In
general, if you always wear thatcolor, then you know that that's
a color that you can send herother colors around and create
all kinds of capsule wardrobesand capsule color palettes and
play around with that, andyou'll have a lot of clothes

(10:33):
that kind of go together. Sothat's kind of cool, too. And
for me, really, it's the trueexpression of you, the more
comfortable you get with wearthe color that you just really,
really like, the more that youkind of get to be you your true
self. And I think that that is afar more comfortable place to be

(10:53):
when you stop trying to besomeone else's up trying to
dress like someone else and justreally wear the colors that you
really, really like it reallyresonate with. We'll get back to
our topic in just a moment. Areyou struggling to figure out
what your most flattering colorsare? Then take the your color

a future episode where we dive alittle bit deeper into each of
these signature colors. Thefirst one I mentioned is I pop
in color. It's kind of like theturquoise and TEALS that I
referred to earlier for myself.
It's the colors that pick up allthe little variations of of hues
in your eyes and you can havemore than one there's usually a
little bit of a range so if youfeel that golden brown eyes, you
may have some golden yellows andgolden brown maybe even living

(13:13):
in navy blue in there. If you'vegot really dark eyes I bet you
still there there might be deepbrown or dark or black or even
like a navy blue rim so there'salways little variations in your
eyes and those those colors areyour IPOP and colors. blushing
colors are the colors that arenaturally part of your skin

(13:35):
tone. They are kind of thecolors that you might choose for
blush and for lipstick. You mayif you don't know you might want
to go to a makeup counter thatis more professional that you
trust to get those colors butthose colors can be extremely
flattering and very pretty. Andthat's what I call blushing
colors. Your grounding colorsare your best neutrals. Those
are the colors that you're goingto likely find in your eyebrows

(13:57):
and hair. And they become veryharmonious now if you color your
hair gets a little trickier, have a we'll go into that when
we get into episode those aregrounded colors as your your
your best neutrals and reallythe colors that you might feel
most grounded and that's how Ifeel when I wear my neutrals I
feel very grounded in that. veryneutral. You have your power

(14:19):
colors and those are a lot offun to talk about and we'll
definitely go into more detailwith those. Your power colors
other colors that you choose towear that make you feel
powerful. You may choose to wearthem when you are a job
interview, do a presentation, someplace where you want to be
seen as the authority or theexpert. Maybe you're on zoom

(14:40):
calls or you're doing your ownvideos or whatever but that is
your power colors. And then thelast one I call happy colors and
these the colors that they theymay be part of the other four or
they may not and they're colorthat you gravitate towards that
may You don't always wear maybeit's not color it's a new color

(15:01):
palette you don't like whatnecessarily wearing it but you
always gravitate towards thosecolors, they bring you joy, for
some reason, some memory, someexperience doesn't really
matter. And so those also shouldbe added into your color palette
of your signature colors becausewe can learn how to wear them
and we can learn how to addthose to our lives because our

playing around and looking inyour wardrobe and identifying
those go to colors are thosetheir signature colors are you
