7 октября исламистcкая группировка ХАМАС напала на Израиль — террористы выпустили из сектора Газа тысячи ракет по территории Израиля, а затем, прорвав границу, принялись убивать и захватывать в заложники жителей приграничных городов и кибуцев. Армия обороны Израиля ответила массированными бомбардировками Газы и готовит наземную операцию на палестинских территориях, контролируемых ХАМАС.
Эта война — самое ожесточенное и кровопролитное обострение палестино-израильского конфликта за многие годы. Пока известно, что боевики ХАМАС убили более 1300 граждан Израиля. Не меньшее количество палестинцев погибло в ходе авиаударов ЦАХАЛ.
