בנובמבר 1957 הדהימה ברית המועצות את העולם כאשר שיגרה, בפעם השנייה בתוך כחודש, לווין לחלל. על ספוטניק 2 הייתה נוסעת: כלבה קטנה (וחמודה) בשם 'לייקה' ('נבחנית', ברוסית). אבל התגובה לשיגורה המוצלח של לייקה לא הייתה התגובה לה ציפתה ברית המועצות הסערה התקשורתית שעוררה לייקה לא דעכה מאז ועד ימינו, והייתה לה השפעה קריטית על האתיקה של ניסויים מדעיים בכמעט כל תחום, ולא רק בחלל. תודה לנתן פוזיאק שערך את התחקיר לפרק, ולניר סייג שהקליט אותו.
