李二毛，1978 年，出生于四川渠县的一个农村家庭。八岁时，父亲因为贩卖妇女儿童被枪毙，身有残疾的母亲也很快改嫁了。二毛只能跟着表哥到重庆捡垃圾。慢慢一步一步地来到了深圳。
而今天的讲述者贾玉川，年近 60，是个纪录片导演。20 年前，他是深圳晶报的摄影记者。当时深圳正是改革开放的前沿，无数人的命运在这里翻覆，二毛便是其中之一。
2003 年，机缘巧合之下，贾玉川认识了二毛，并跟随他拍摄 17 年。
