【本期人物】
哈里·S·杜鲁门（Harry S. Truman，1884年－1972年），生于美国密苏里州，美国民主党政治家。
1918年，第一次世界大战期间，杜鲁门在法国带领一支炮兵部队。1922年，当选为密苏里州杰克逊县法院的法官。1935至1944年任联邦参议员。1945年1月20日至4月12日，杜鲁门担任第34任副总统。1945年4月至1953年担任第33任美国总统。1953年卸任回乡。1972年12月26日，杜鲁门在堪萨斯城病故，享年88岁。
杜鲁门执政期间，主要整顿了美国政府机构；完善总统任期与继任制；提出有关就业、住房、民权等方面的立法；提出“杜鲁门主义”；向国会提出在经济方面援助西欧，并被批准。
