the game with the Steelers starting defense, and I feel
like that defense just got tired of being told it sucked,
and for that matter, it was accurate criticism.

Every criticism that defense absorbed up till yesterday was totally justified.
It's only one game, but it was some game, and

The schedule, their schedule doesn't look like most of the game.

think the field. You know, they play indoors. They don't
play outdoors at places like the Sandy Akroscher Field where
you slip around and you know, I think they had
a disadvantage there.

City get wild cards. It's just where they're both headed
right now. If the Steelers played one of them, I mean,
what would you think of their chances against Forget Buffalo,

City is not in the playoffs, but what if they
played Kansas City at Aftershore. Kansas City I think has

I'm of a dual mindset when it comes to the
criticism that's being rained down upon Washington for leaving Daniels
in too long. On one hand, NFL teams don't surrender,
They just don't. You pull starters if you're way ahead,
not way behind.

the other hand, Daniels was coming off another injury. I'm

I think I well, the guys you mentioned are both

here to win. They come here to get as much
money as possible. And there are exceptions. I think malk

way looking at it is, let's say baseball does get
a salary cap, which will be a long, hard battle
and might cost baseball an entire season before the players capitulate,
and maybe even longer than that. I mean, when you
got Harper telling the commissioner to f off when he

comes to the locker room, because Harper just thinks he
might talk about the postapult of a salary cap that
indicates that the stars who make money more than the
rank and file of the MLBPA without a cap. But
there who counts their agents are who counts if they're
dug in, it's gonna be potentially a nuclear winner for baseball.

But do you think that if there's a cap the
pirates will suddenly jump up the table and contend for
a playoff spot consistently? They will not. They absolutely will not.
The poor owners like Nottingwell, the ones who postures poor,
the lower market size guys, they don't want a cap.

know there are people on the coaching staff who want
him to stay up anyway. They just think he's so talented.

him if they can just work with him basically one
on one during the NHL team. And I don't know
that Kyle Dumas fields that way. I'm very curious to
find out, because he has really struggled, as I said,

a salary cap, which will be a long, hard battle
and might cost baseball an entire season before the players capitulate,
and maybe even longer than that. I mean, when you

comes to the locker room, because Harper just thinks he
might talk about the postapult of a salary cap that
indicates that the stars who make money more than the
rank and file of the MLBPA without a cap. But
there who counts their agents are who counts if they're
dug in, it's gonna be potentially a nuclear winner for baseball.

But do you think that if there's a cap the
pirates will suddenly jump up the table and contend for
a playoff spot consistently? They will not. They absolutely will not.
The poor owners like Nottingwell, the ones who postures poor,
the lower market size guys, they don't want a cap.

from Toronto. He is Josh Joey Josh up. Tonight is
Harrison Brunick's ninth game. How important is this game for
him as far as them making the decision whether to
keep him or not to kick in that first year
of his NHL contract? And do you think the decision's

probably already been made.
Speaker 12 (25:40):
I have to assume it's already been made, Mark, if
I were to guess, and he has really struggled his
last three or four games. The interesting thing is, I
know there are people on the coaching staff who want
him to stay up anyway. They just think he's so talented.
They want to work with him. They're willing to let
him take his lumps. They just think it's better for
(26:01):
him if they can just work with him basically one
on one during the NHL team. And I don't know
that Kyle Dumas fields that way. I'm very curious to
find out, because he has really struggled, as I said,
the last few games. He's been a healthy scratch for
five times now. It makes me wonder if he's not
going to be sent down after this game?
Speaker 2 (26:21):
Yeah, what would you do? Because I'd keep him. I
will let him work stuff up, work stuff out rather
up here. I think that the energy and enthusiasm and
the effect on the locker room those kids have is
just so important. I think the more of them that
are here, the bigger that impact is.
Speaker 12 (26:37):
I would keep him too, And one specific reason I
would keep him. You hired Dan Mus because he specializes
in working with players that age and getting them ready
for the NHL being NHL players. For that reason alone,
I want him around Dan Muse. Is there anyone coaching

him in junior hockey who's better than Dan Mused? I
assume not.
Speaker 3 (27:01):
Now.
Speaker 12 (27:01):
I know Dan has other responsibilities as head coach of
an NHL team. Personally, I would keep him. I understand
if they don't. Why they wouldn't, I get it. He
he has not looked NHL ready the last few games.
But I think the more young players they have right
now the better. I firmly believe that, and I don't
think it's going to hurt them all that much. And

wins and losses like is Matt Dumba or Conner Clifton
really better than Harrison Brunick, even if Brunick goes to
a rough patch like I'm not so sure about that.

Actually I am sure he's better than them guys.
Speaker 2 (27:35):
The other the other debate is who should play on
Sid's line with Raquel Hurt Because Philip Hallander he's been there.
Speaker 1 (27:42):
I wouldn't say he sucked, but he ain't it.
Speaker 2 (27:44):
I see him as a middle six, which is not
which is to say not on the top line.
Speaker 12 (27:51):
I agree. I'd love to see coy and then get
another look there. And I know he didn't look good
in the first two games there, and he frankly hasn't
looked great in the NHL this season.
Speaker 1 (28:01):
But we know he has the.
Speaker 12 (28:03):
Skill set to be a top six guy, at least
we think he does with the pair of hands that
he has the hockey IQ. I would love to see
him get another crack. Then they just have a limited
amount of options, Mark, I mean, the only other choice
that makes any sense is Ben Kendall. That he's been
so good at his natural position, and he's been so
good frankly defensively at center as well, that I wouldn't
(28:27):
move him from where he is right now. So I
think Coyman is the only other chance, and I would
give that a shot, whether they look good together or
not in nearly going.

How big.
Speaker 2 (28:38):
Influence Sid has on the decision, I don't know.
Speaker 1 (28:41):
I think it's considerable.
Speaker 2 (28:42):
I don't think there's anybody there he necessarily thinks is
a good fit with Raquel out.

Probably not, if I had to guess. He hasn't told
me that, but that would be my guess. You know,
I can tell you from the Mike Sullivan days, certainly
had a lot of influence, and he and Sally would
have a meeting once a week and talk about his
line and who was on his line.

And they didn't.
Speaker 12 (29:07):
Always agree, that's for sure. And sometimes Sullivan would give
in and give him what he wanted, sometimes he wouldn't.
For instance, famously, Mike Sullivan loved Sidney Crosby on the
same line as Patrick horn Twist. Sid did not like
playing with Horny. He just didn't think he was fast enough.
It drove him nuts. Sullivan thought they were great together.
So I don't know what the relationship with the dynamic
(29:30):
is with Sid and Muse just yet, but I have
to assume SID has a good bit.

Of power right now.
Speaker 2 (29:36):
I wasn't bothered by the loss of Winnipeg, Josh, how
about you. I didn't like giving up two goals in
the first three minutes, but they were due for a
bit of a clanger. I thought they regrouped and played
okay after those first three minutes, and hopefully they start
out better tonight against Toronto.
Speaker 12 (29:52):
Yeah, I was fine with to pick a really good team.
The Penguins typically did not play very well there, and
I didn't feel like they were overmatched most of the game.
They just had a bad start and it happens. I mean,
that's that's the way it goes. Sometimes you're gonna live
with that. I think tonight, though, even though the Leafs
are in theory a good team, they're off to a

really bad start. If you can at least get a
point at it tonight, Mark, a one one in two
road trip would be pretty darn nice. The way things
are going for the Penguins right now, that this is
a tough stretch of schedule they're in, so you know,
the next couple of weeks are gonna tell us something
about this team. But even to get a point that
I would be fine.
