Speaker 1 (00:00):
By the way, did I talk about this Ben quote yet?

Speaker 2 (00:03):
Ben was asked, you know they were all there the
Super Bowl, forty guys, what a great team, what a
great playoff run that year. They won like, like what
was it, four games at the end of the season
to just make the playoffs, then won all road playoff
games to get to the super Bowl. That's when Betts
fumbled and Ben made the tackle at Indy to keep
Jerome Bettis from being remembered as Pittsburgh's Bill Buckner. And

(00:29):
Ben said, you won't see a team like that again
because it's a different time now. It's not a different
time now. The team building is exactly the same. The
thing is, the Steelers don't know how to do it
no more because it's different people doing it that aren't
very good at it, and they don't got Ben Roethlisberger
no more.

Speaker 1 (00:48):
But it's not a different time. It's not impossible to
build a team like that anyway.

Speaker 2 (00:54):
Uh, this is kind of off the wall. Oh, let's
take this call. Let's go to Joe. Joe, you're own
with double M.

Speaker 3 (01:01):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (01:01):
Mark Friday, we talked a little bit about Ramsey. What
I'm here in this this rumor that he spoke gypsy
magic or something this week.

Speaker 5 (01:11):
Well what do you say?

Speaker 2 (01:12):
Yeah, he gave a big raw Ross speech. Well, I
don't know what he said. I don't know if it's
raw Ros Rogers referred to it. He said it it
imbued the team with a different attitude, a lot more energy.
So hey, Jalen Ramsey's an accomplished veteran. He won a
Super Bowl with the l A. Rams and if he
can say something that has impact, I absolutely want him
to say it.

Speaker 4 (01:33):
Yeah, he had a good game too. He's tough player. Man,
I've always I was. I was pumped. I just think
they need to move him into that slot though.

Speaker 2 (01:40):
Man two, bro Ramsey at safety dug it right alongside him.
Those other guys are bums. Forget him, cut him, push
him down a flight of steps, don't give him a helmet.
Let's go to Denny.

Speaker 5 (01:52):
Denny, you're owen Mark, Hey, Mark, listen, I agree with
you one hundred per Danny Smith or whatever his name is. Jesus,
the guy is a clown. I remember talking to my
friend as we watched and just saying, why is this

(02:14):
guy on TV so much? He just looks like a buffoon.

Speaker 2 (02:18):
Thank you for the call. Now I feel bad about
bashing the guy. I've rallied the ton against Danny Smith. No,
I don't feel that bad. Uh, Okay, we got time
for more calls. In the next segment, dial A three
three four one two w XDX, I'm gonna talk about
if we don't get calls, I'm going to tell you

(02:40):
what the best in studio show is for sports, and
I bet most of you have never seen it.

Speaker 1 (02:45):
One five nine x y Yeah.

Speaker 6 (02:47):
Park love the show.

Speaker 1 (02:48):
Well, if I won over Fundy betating Dusty Road to
make a dream, so be it. Baby c X at
one five.

Speaker 2 (02:56):
A three, three four one two w XDX number to
call that game yesterday is amazing. I'm still I can't
believe it went how it did. I never saw them winning.
I never saw the defense picking its game up to
that degree. I think they were motivated to not be
embarrassed in front of the Super Bowl forty team. A

(03:18):
couple of the defensive guys got in that kind of
ring around the rosie they do for hype right before
the game with the Steelers starting defense, and I feel
like that defense just got tired of being told it sucked,
and for that matter, it was accurate criticism.

Speaker 1 (03:34):
Maybe they just got tired of sucking.

Speaker 2 (03:38):
Every criticism that defense absorbed up till yesterday was totally justified.
It's only one game, but it was some game, and
it really gave them cushion they need going to LA.
If they had lost a third game in a row,
you're probably gonna go to LA and lose a fourth
game in a row. And then Baltimore's right up your backside.

(04:03):
And now they're at arms length. And that's what the
Steelers gonna do. They got to grind out winning the division.
They're not gonna win out. They're not gonna go fourteen
to three or anything close to that. They're gonna grind out.
And that win over Indy goes a long way. Let's

(04:25):
be honest. They may well lose at LA, and they
probably are gonna lose a game between now and seasons
end that they're not supposed to, because that's how it
always goes.

Speaker 1 (04:35):
They say you can always count.

Speaker 2 (04:37):
On a Tomlin team, Well that can be perverse too
in its truth, you can always count on a Tomlin
team to lose a game.

Speaker 1 (04:44):
It shouldn't just like yesterday.

Speaker 2 (04:46):
Well, you know, I can't say yesterday was a game
they shouldn't have won because it was at home and
they were only three and a half point underdogs when
the game started, By the way, I was gonna bet
two dimes on Danny Dimes.

Speaker 1 (04:56):
I forgot.

Speaker 2 (04:58):
I mean, I wasn't gonna bet two dimes, but I
was gonna bet like a couple hundred, maybe five hundred.
I just forgot to do it, and then the game started.
I don't like in game betting. I was talking about
that with Tim Ben's on his podcast.

Speaker 1 (05:11):
It just I don't know. It just I don't know.
I don't like I don't know why. It seems too addictive.

Speaker 2 (05:15):
It is total NonStop action, as I heard it said,
but I don't like to do it.

Speaker 1 (05:25):
I was gonna get to this sooner or later today.

Speaker 2 (05:28):
You know what's the best in studio show for sports,
like pregame, halftime, between periods, whatever. It's Premier League Mornings
on USA for English soccer. And I know you've never
watched it. You get tired of me talking about it,
but you know, just switch stations if you don't like it,
because I like to.

Speaker 1 (05:48):
Talk about it.

Speaker 2 (05:50):
And Premier League Mornings has excellent analysis, all the highlights
and it doesn't stoop to the juvenile antics that appeal
to bro culture, trying to be funny, but not at
all funny.

Speaker 1 (06:06):
It's just good sports TV.

Speaker 2 (06:08):
Not that good as even remotely a consideration now, let
alone a requirements.

Speaker 1 (06:16):
Like tonight, I saw advertising.

Speaker 2 (06:18):
For that Manning Cast, the alternate Monday night football telecast
hosted by Peyton and Eli Manning.

Speaker 1 (06:24):
Those two ain't funny. People say they're funny.

Speaker 2 (06:27):
They are not in the least bit remotely funny, not
one bit effing funny.

Speaker 1 (06:32):
They're dorks.

Speaker 2 (06:34):
They're funny inscripted commercials in small doses. But Peyton and
Eli on that broadcast are dorks. Let's go to David
David Drown with the super genius Good Day Mark.

Speaker 1 (06:48):
I said, good day.

Speaker 7 (06:51):
Mark. The Colts game yesterday, it was a great win.
I agree with you. The Steelers needed that. But two
things about the Colts. When I saw that spread last
week it was only Colt's minus three, it made me
look at their schedule. You know, they've beaten a lot
of cream.

Speaker 1 (07:05):
Puffs this year.

Speaker 7 (07:06):
The schedule, their schedule doesn't look like most of the game.

Speaker 2 (07:09):
They're still pretty good, pretty good, but you know they
got prop seven they're better than the Steelers. If they
played the Steelers in the best of seven, the Colts
would win the series. That was just a bad game
for them yesterday.

Speaker 7 (07:22):
I agree. If it was in Indianapolis, I think for
sure they would win ten out of ten because I
think the field. You know, they play indoors. They don't
play outdoors at places like the Sandy Akroscher Field where
you slip around and you know, I think they had
a disadvantage there.

Speaker 1 (07:37):
But you know, they beat up.

Speaker 7 (07:38):
They beat the Titans spwice this year, they beat the Dolphins,
they beat the Cardinals. You know, a lot of weak teams.

Speaker 2 (07:44):
And the Steelers lost. The Steelers lost to the Bengals.
What's your point, but Mark?

Speaker 7 (07:50):
But Mark, you were surprised by that spread too, right?
It was only a minus three?

Speaker 2 (07:53):
Yeah, I thought, I thought, no, no, no, again, You're
missing the point of a point spread. It's to get
equal action on each side of the line. The Steelers
are a brand name. Giving them a big a big
number of points would have driven the action too much
to their side. Thank you for the call.

Speaker 3 (08:13):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (08:13):
And by the way, one thing I talked about those
in studio shows, just this is kind of peripheral. But
people talk about Aaron Rodgers has been such a great
leader for the Steelers, hasn't said anything stupid and not
been at all the distraction. Just been Aaron Rodgers, my
favorite Steeler, my favorite Steeler.

Speaker 1 (08:30):
I hope he knows how much I love him.

Speaker 2 (08:32):
Aaron Rodgers has been one thousand percent positive in every
which way you can be positive. And part of that
is he made the extra intelligent decision to not go
on to McAfee show, where McAfee just lays traps for
everybody to say something dumb to help his cause. And
that's not a bad thing. I do it too, but
it's better he's not on that show. Period time out

(08:55):

Or if you are an adult with active storiatic arthritis,
sky Rizzy helps you move with less joint pain, stiffness, swelling,

Don't use if allergic to sky Rizzy. Serious allergic reactions,
increased infections or lower ability to fight that may occur
before treatment could checked for infections and tuberculosis. Tell your
doctor about any flu like symptoms or vaccines.

Well by one Bundy pertating Dusty Road Domican dream, so
be it baby X at one oh five nine, having
trouble getting hold of BORKI.

Speaker 2 (11:39):
So if you want to talk hockey or football or Pitt, well,
Pitt's technically football, well acc football not quite.

Speaker 1 (11:47):
The real thing.

Speaker 2 (11:48):
Give us a call now, eight three, three, four one
two thirty nine. We could always rehash that Steeler win
again and again, which is fun to do, because they
did win. I still can't believe that game went that way.
I still can't believe it appeared to be just going

(12:10):
down the old Beamus before TJ walk got that strip sack.
I can believe the Steelers gott gained by over one
hundred yards but still won the game. I can't believe
they got six turnovers and nonetheless won by only seven.
I can't believe Tomlin and maybe Terra Austin too, got

(12:31):
a little inventive on defense with that four to three look,
with using three inside backers, with using three outside backers,
with using Ramsey at safety. Him and Dougla were a
good combination, and that would be my combination at safety
moving forward, period.

Speaker 1 (12:49):
So the Steelers did a lot.

Speaker 2 (12:50):
It's just the one game, but again, the amount of
cushion that gives them to keep Baltimore arm's length. That's
big to be able to bleed out. A division championship
that could be big. To be able to glind it
out and just keep this cushion your built. That could

(13:14):
be big. Winning the division, get a home game in
the playoffs, that could be big. Unless Buffalo and Kansas
City get wild cards. It's just where they're both headed
right now. If the Steelers played one of them, I mean,
what would you think of their chances against Forget Buffalo,
Buffalo would kill them anywhere. What if they played Kansas

(13:35):
City at Akroshore? And keep in mind, right now Kansas
City is not in the playoffs, but what if they
played Kansas City at Aftershore. Kansas City I think has
already worn out. Kansas City I predicted to not make
the playoffs. But there's the Mahomes factor, there's that playoff
experience factor. I would count them out at home against

(13:57):
Buffalo in a playoff game. I would not count them
out at home against Kansas City in a playoff game.
So again, big win, not a lot determined, but certainly
a step in the right direction, A big step for

(14:19):
the defense.

Speaker 1 (14:21):
Uh, we'll see where it goes from here. We'll see
how it goes to LA.

Speaker 2 (14:23):
You want to make me a believer, Like I said earlier,
go to LA and beat the Chargers. Go to LA
and beat Justin Herbert and with all out their their
star tackle. I mean, after he got hurt yesterday, Herbert
was running for his life the rest of the game.
So things looking up for the Steelers. How much up,

(14:45):
I don't know, but things look it up. Another interesting
note in football, we got the Jane Daniels thing, the
Washington quarterback where he got hurt after being left in
too long in a route they were on the losing side.
Dislocated his elbow and he's out for a while now. Now,

(15:08):
I'm of a dual mindset when it comes to the
criticism that's being rained down upon Washington for leaving Daniels
in too long. On one hand, NFL teams don't surrender,
They just don't. You pull starters if you're way ahead,
not way behind.

Speaker 1 (15:27):
Is that right? Is it wrong?

Speaker 2 (15:29):
I don't know, but it's what NFL teams do. On
the other hand, Daniels was coming off another injury. I'm
not surprised to see Washington Regress this year. In fact,
I predicted it before the season. They went a little
further than expected, perhaps too fast last year and getting
all the way to the NFC Championship game.

Speaker 1 (15:49):
Now it's back to Earth and then some a little wait.

Speaker 2 (15:56):
I'm going to talk about that sixty eight yard field
the Jacksonville kicker kick yesterday. I chatted briefly with Matt
Williamson about it earlier this show. If it were up
to me, I'd take the goalposts off the field. I
don't want to see points scored form merely getting to midfield,

(16:19):
for merely getting to the fifty yard line. Now I'm
starting to ask Mark anything down eight three three four
one two ninety nine thirty nine. Conaw and ask Mark
anything eight three three four one two ninety nine thirty nine.

(16:40):
so Josh always going to join us at the top
of the hour just after the list Uh. I went
to see Bachman Turner Overdrive last night. Randy Bachman the
lone hold over his son Tal Bachman, who had a
solo hit with She's So High a number of years ago.

Speaker 1 (16:57):
He's in the band also on guitar. Tal Bachman's wife
is on drums and she's good.

Speaker 2 (17:07):
And she was the girl in the tal Bachman video
for So High a number of years ago, like fifteen twenty,
So that's kind of neat. So it's Randy Bachman with
a bunch of guys presented as Bachman Turner Overdrive. No
Bachman Brothers, no CF Turner. It's good, though, It's really good.
Randy Bachman is a Canadian institution, just like the Blue
Jays blowing it and the Leaf's blowing it.

Speaker 1 (17:31):
So that was good. And you know what I did
over the weekend one morning, I was sleeping in.

Speaker 2 (17:40):
So I put on and listened to in its entirety.
That led Zeppelin LP in Through the Outdoor, which was
their final official studio recording aside from Coda, which was
a bunch of outtakes after the band had broken up
after the untimely demise of drummer John Bonham, and Into

(18:01):
the out There gets all kinds of hate for being bad.

Speaker 1 (18:04):
It's great. It's great.

Speaker 2 (18:06):
If Inter the out There is supposed to be the
worst Zeppelin album, if it got released today, it would
be called the best rock album in the last twenty years, because.

Speaker 1 (18:13):
That's how good led Zeppelin were.

Speaker 2 (18:16):
It has in the Evening, which is an epic All
My Love, which is a bit small seed but very
kind of a simple, like like kind.

Speaker 1 (18:26):
Of majestic one of those Zeppelin songs.

Speaker 2 (18:28):
It's about the death of Robert plants Young's son. And
then they did this experimental thing Karasalambra, which I hated
when I first listened to it, but ever since then
it's really grown on me, and I wish they had
gotten to play it live, which they I don't think
ever did. All right, Like I said, ask Mark anything,

(18:49):
that's up next Dial now eight three three four one

pens against the Leaves tonight.

Speaker 1 (19:47):
I'm quite looking forward it.

Speaker 5 (19:49):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (19:49):
I don't know if Harrison Brunnick.

Speaker 2 (19:53):
Can change their determination of what to do as far
as sending him back to junior or keeping him in
the NHL by how he plays tonight, but it is
his ninth game, and if he plays more than that
a tenth game, then is is a rookie contract kicks
in as has already happened with Ben Kendall.

Speaker 1 (20:09):
I would keep runic regardless.

Speaker 2 (20:11):
We'll see what josh Owie thinks when he joins me
at the top of the hour.

Speaker 1 (20:14):
Let's go to Mike and Cranberry. Mike Askmark anything.

Speaker 3 (20:19):
Hey Mark? Uh? You know, compared to the previous generation
where you got guys like Coopaitar Taves Crosby taking less
money to help their team win, now you got guys
like Capitsov and his report on Paneren trying to take
as much money as they can. Is this about them
wanting the more most for themselves or is this about
them not really caring about winning?

Speaker 2 (20:43):
I think I well, the guys you mentioned are both
Russian and correct. They don't they don't. They don't come
here to win. They come here to get as much
money as possible. And there are exceptions. I think malk
has been an exception, although we should keep in mind
at one point he asked for and got more than
Sidney Crosby makes when there hasn't been the sun come
up on a day when he's been a better player

(21:04):
than sid Actually, maybe a day here and there, like
when Gino won the MVP and when he won the
con Smite. But you get my drift. So, and I'm
not sure I blame guys for trying to maximize their earnings.
I admire sid for what he did. I don't hold
it against guys who don't. Does that make any sense
to see what I'm saying? And for all the amount

(21:26):
that sid has given the franchise to work with by
taking less, I'm not sure it's really paid off.

Speaker 3 (21:34):
Are you well, three cups. Can't argue with it.

Speaker 1 (21:38):
Yeah, but I'm not sure that that.

Speaker 2 (21:42):
The money he gave back was needed to win the
three Cups because he won the one very early in
his career. I mean, I'm just kind of playing devil's
advocate here. I can't hate anyone who wants to make money.
And I got to tell you, if Paneren doesn't take
the most, you think the Rangers are going to suddenly
winsavaf you'd.

Speaker 1 (22:00):
Left money on the table.

Speaker 2 (22:02):
The guys were going to line up to go to
Minneapolis Saint Paul in the winners they have up there
to play hockey and try to win when they're not
close to winning as it is.

Speaker 1 (22:12):
I mean, I feel what you're saying, but you see
what I'm saying.

Speaker 3 (22:19):
Absolutely absolutely. You know, people should be able to make
as much as they want, you know, and that they
they're willing to spend it and they're willing to pay them,
that they should take it.

Speaker 2 (22:29):
And whatever decision people make, it's it's a thousand percent
up to them. Like, I don't think there's a right
or wrong here, although as you say, and I agree,
you know, Sid taking less to try to help the Penguins.
Win more is admirable. Thank you for the call. Lee's
line open eight three three, four thirty nine for as
mark anything. Yeah, Penguins lost at Winnipeg. I'm not too

(22:51):
bothered by that. I was a bit bothered by allowing
two goals in the first three minutes. Harrison Brunick having
a bad game of Now that bothered me. But again,
to repeat, I'd keep him, I'd let him work it
out up here. We've also been talking a great deal
about MLB in the aftermath of the World Series and

(23:19):
the battle for a salary cap that will commence when
the CBA expires on December one of twenty twenty six,
that's after next season. And we've looked at all the
angles like that Baseball is perfectly happy with how baseball is.
It's not broken like pirate fans like the wine. It's
the pirate's franchise that's broken. It's owners who don't try

(23:40):
enough to win that breaks their own franchise. And another
way looking at it is, let's say baseball does get
a salary cap, which will be a long, hard battle
and might cost baseball an entire season before the players capitulate,
and maybe even longer than that. I mean, when you
got Harper telling the commissioner to f off when he

(24:03):
comes to the locker room, because Harper just thinks he
might talk about the postapult of a salary cap that
indicates that the stars who make money more than the
rank and file of the MLBPA without a cap. But
there who counts their agents are who counts if they're
dug in, it's gonna be potentially a nuclear winner for baseball.

(24:26):
But do you think that if there's a cap the
pirates will suddenly jump up the table and contend for
a playoff spot consistently? They will not. They absolutely will not.
The poor owners like Nottingwell, the ones who postures poor,
the lower market size guys, they don't want a cap.

Speaker 1 (24:47):
They don't they don't want to have to spend to
the floor.

Speaker 2 (24:51):
So those of you who think a cap would cure
baseball in Pittsburgh, you couldn't be any more wrong.

Speaker 1 (24:56):
You couldn't be any more stupid.

Speaker 2 (24:58):
Okay, just around the corner, we're gonna talk to Josh
Shoey about the Penguins.

Speaker 1 (25:04):
I'm Mark Madden here on one oh five ninety X.
Now it's your chance to win one thousand dollars just
entered this nationwide keyword on our website.

Speaker 2 (25:13):
Bills that all right? Joining me now to talk Penguins.
He covers the team for the Athletic He is live
from Toronto. He is Josh Joey Josh up. Tonight is
Harrison Brunick's ninth game. How important is this game for
him as far as them making the decision whether to
keep him or not to kick in that first year
of his NHL contract? And do you think the decision's

(25:37):
probably already been made.

Speaker 12 (25:40):
I have to assume it's already been made, Mark, if
I were to guess, and he has really struggled his
last three or four games. The interesting thing is, I
know there are people on the coaching staff who want
him to stay up anyway. They just think he's so talented.
They want to work with him. They're willing to let
him take his lumps. They just think it's better for

(26:01):
him if they can just work with him basically one
on one during the NHL team. And I don't know
that Kyle Dumas fields that way. I'm very curious to
find out, because he has really struggled, as I said,
the last few games. He's been a healthy scratch for
five times now. It makes me wonder if he's not
going to be sent down after this game?

Speaker 2 (26:21):
Yeah, what would you do? Because I'd keep him. I
will let him work stuff up, work stuff out rather
up here. I think that the energy and enthusiasm and
the effect on the locker room those kids have is
just so important. I think the more of them that
are here, the bigger that impact is.

Speaker 12 (26:37):
I would keep him too, And one specific reason I
would keep him. You hired Dan Mus because he specializes
in working with players that age and getting them ready
for the NHL being NHL players. For that reason alone,
I want him around Dan Muse. Is there anyone coaching

(26:58):
him in junior hockey who's better than Dan Mused? I
assume not.

Speaker 3 (27:01):
Now.

Speaker 12 (27:01):
I know Dan has other responsibilities as head coach of
an NHL team. Personally, I would keep him. I understand
if they don't. Why they wouldn't, I get it. He
he has not looked NHL ready the last few games.
But I think the more young players they have right
now the better. I firmly believe that, and I don't
think it's going to hurt them all that much. And

(27:23):
wins and losses like is Matt Dumba or Conner Clifton
really better than Harrison Brunick, even if Brunick goes to
a rough patch like I'm not so sure about that.

Speaker 1 (27:32):
Actually I am sure he's better than them guys.

Speaker 2 (27:35):
The other the other debate is who should play on
Sid's line with Raquel Hurt Because Philip Hallander he's been there.

Speaker 1 (27:42):
I wouldn't say he sucked, but he ain't it.

Speaker 2 (27:44):
I see him as a middle six, which is not
which is to say not on the top line.

Speaker 12 (27:51):
I agree. I'd love to see coy and then get
another look there. And I know he didn't look good
in the first two games there, and he frankly hasn't
looked great in the NHL this season.

Speaker 1 (28:01):
But we know he has the.

Speaker 12 (28:03):
Skill set to be a top six guy, at least
we think he does with the pair of hands that
he has the hockey IQ. I would love to see
him get another crack. Then they just have a limited
amount of options, Mark, I mean, the only other choice
that makes any sense is Ben Kendall. That he's been
so good at his natural position, and he's been so
good frankly defensively at center as well, that I wouldn't

(28:27):
move him from where he is right now. So I
think Coyman is the only other chance, and I would
give that a shot, whether they look good together or
not in nearly going.

Speaker 1 (28:35):
How big.

Speaker 2 (28:38):
Influence Sid has on the decision, I don't know.

Speaker 1 (28:41):
I think it's considerable.

Speaker 2 (28:42):
I don't think there's anybody there he necessarily thinks is
a good fit with Raquel out.

Speaker 12 (28:49):
Probably not, if I had to guess. He hasn't told
me that, but that would be my guess. You know,
I can tell you from the Mike Sullivan days, certainly
had a lot of influence, and he and Sally would
have a meeting once a week and talk about his
line and who was on his line.

Speaker 4 (29:07):
And they didn't.

Speaker 12 (29:07):
Always agree, that's for sure. And sometimes Sullivan would give
in and give him what he wanted, sometimes he wouldn't.
For instance, famously, Mike Sullivan loved Sidney Crosby on the
same line as Patrick horn Twist. Sid did not like
playing with Horny. He just didn't think he was fast enough.
It drove him nuts. Sullivan thought they were great together.
So I don't know what the relationship with the dynamic

(29:30):
is with Sid and Muse just yet, but I have
to assume SID has a good bit.

Speaker 4 (29:34):
Of power right now.

Speaker 2 (29:36):
I wasn't bothered by the loss of Winnipeg, Josh, how
about you. I didn't like giving up two goals in
the first three minutes, but they were due for a
bit of a clanger. I thought they regrouped and played
okay after those first three minutes, and hopefully they start
out better tonight against Toronto.

Speaker 12 (29:52):
Yeah, I was fine with to pick a really good team.
The Penguins typically did not play very well there, and
I didn't feel like they were overmatched most of the game.
They just had a bad start and it happens. I mean,
that's that's the way it goes. Sometimes you're gonna live
with that. I think tonight, though, even though the Leafs
are in theory a good team, they're off to a

(30:13):
really bad start. If you can at least get a
point at it tonight, Mark, a one one in two
road trip would be pretty darn nice. The way things
are going for the Penguins right now, that this is
a tough stretch of schedule they're in, so you know,
the next couple of weeks are gonna tell us something
about this team. But even to get a point that
I would be fine.

Speaker 2 (30:30):
We're talking to Josh Joey the athletic here on one
oh five ninety X. Josh, what do you make in Toronto?
So far, they're off to a six' five and one.
Start they're scoring lots of, goals BUT i think they're
weak in. NET i think they're week on, defense same
as it ever. Was AND i would love to see
The penguins pile onto That Blue jays.

Speaker 12 (30:49):
Misery everybody's very much down in the dumps around, here
as you might, imagine so there will not be a
positive atmosphere in the building that have no. Doubt i'll
tell you. What i've watched the least a lot this.
Year Mark they're not. Fast if, anything they're they're below.
AVERAGE i think team speed, wise it's a real. Problem

(31:09):
AND i keep going back To Mitch. Marner people, can,
like you, know make fun Of marner all they want
for not being great in the. Playoffs you don't, just you,
know get rid of a guy who had one hundred
points every season and who was really good. Defensively you
don't just let someone like that walk and not replace
them and think your team's gonna be. Better and on,
paper simply they're not so THEY'RE i just think they're

(31:32):
kind of average right, now and this might be a
good time for The penguins to catch.

Speaker 1 (31:35):
THEM i think they might be kind of average.

Speaker 2 (31:37):
Period and sometimes you don't know a guy's your best
player till he. LEAVES i Think marner Was toronto's best,
player just like and this is blasphemous With Nate dogg
And cole, mccarr BUT i Think ranton might have Been
colorado's best.

Speaker 12 (31:49):
Player, WELL i won't go that far With, randon BUT
i know what you. MEAN i mean In colorado's, case
but they were the big, three right and you lose
one if you just don't replace, them it's a. Problem
and you, KNOW i look At. TORONTO i don't Think
matthews has been the same guy the last couple of
years for whatever. Reason AND i know that's probably not,

(32:11):
helping BECAUSE i, MEAN i still like their, core BUT
i JUST i don't. Know there's something about their their
roster that's just very ordinary to. Me now in The Eastern,
conference as bad as it, is you, know who knows
that you have an average, roster you probably feel like
you have a. Chance But i'm just there's something lacking

(32:32):
in their game right, now they're not as dynamic as
they have been the last couple of. Years i'm very
interested to see how this. Goes The penguins don't always
play well in this, building but they've got to be
feeling really good about. Themselves but that, said this road,
TRIP i got what three points in three, Games like
it's been an okay road. Trip BUT i think the
way we view this road trip will be very much

(32:54):
based on how they do. Tonight if they can get
at least a, POINT i think that's a job well,
done right in the middle of a really tough stretch of. Schedule,
marcus you Got washington, next The jersey IN la this,
weekend two teams that usually give them, fits so it's
not an easy week for.

Speaker 2 (33:07):
THEM i wonder What toronto didn't go and get a,
goalie and the same As edmondon not going to get a.
Goalie but the answer is there's no goalies to. Get
it's such a bad period in THE nhl for. Goaltenders
AND i Give vegas credit, for you, know not not,
minding dealing with the crap storm and bringing In Carter
hart even though they have a goalie already that want

(33:28):
To Stanley cup And Ayden.

Speaker 12 (33:29):
Hill, well it's, Funny, MARK i was thinking about this
the other, day like When sid broke into the league
twenty years, ago like that was the era of the,
goaltender like every team had a great, goaltender or if,
so it seems even in The penguins. Division you Had
flurry In, pittsburgh you Had lunquist In New, york you
Had marty Bro durr still close to his peak In New,

(33:51):
jersey like every team had a great. Goalie you look around,
now like how many great goalies are? There really five
or six, maybe and even those guys often Like hellabuck
might be a great, goalie but he's never gonna win
anything in the. Playoffs that's become pretty. Clear so, no
that that's exactly why they didn't go out and get a.
GOALIE i mean for years they've, been you, know getting

(34:12):
by with average. Goaltending they never really have that big
name goaltender and in the playoffs that has certainly burned
them at. Times but that, said they're not the only.
Team it's just Like. Edmonton it's it's very similar To,
edmonton and it's very similar to other teams that don't
have A basilevski or A. Bobraskia there's a reason those
those teams have The Stanley, cuppings and those goaltenders are

(34:33):
a huge part of.

Speaker 2 (34:33):
It, Finally josh and in that, vein do you think
The penguins are gonna stick with the straight rotation and
goal Of shiloffs And? Jari what would it take For
muse to deviate from? That besides of, course.

Speaker 12 (34:43):
INJURY i think he'll deviate at some. Point, Listen jari
has been really good his last couple of. Games sheilovs
was not particularly good Against. WINNIPEG i don't know if
that's enough for him to not get the start Against.
Washington BUT i actually feel Like jarry might have a
slight edge right. Now and they head to head, competition

(35:04):
they both sticking. Shootouts we already know, that But jarry
had one not so great start early in the. Season, otherwise,
however he has been lights. Out and for all, that
we have both been critical Of, jarry and rightfully so for.
Years he can be this guy in the regular. Season at,
times he's been Into All Star. Games he has the
history of getting, hot especially in the first half of the.

(35:27):
SEASON i wouldn't be shocked if they ride him for a.
While if he keeps playing like, this.

Speaker 2 (35:31):
Here's my dream, Scenario Josh jarry plays well enough that
he gets interested to trade deadline the penguigere in a playoff.
Spot you Trade jarry for a guy who can, help however,
marginally and you bring up The bond villain From Wilkes Barry.

Speaker 12 (35:49):
SCRANTON i, mean and, honestly WHAT i just said about
all the goal cutting stinking around the, league it's probably in.
Play if he keeps playing like, this that's absolutely best
case scenario for The. Penguins mark to.

Speaker 2 (36:04):
Quote lockstock in Two smoking, Barrels, josh it would Be James.
Bond need to know, Time, josh great. Stuff enjoy the,
Game Enjoy. Toronto we'll talk later in a, week all.

Speaker 4 (36:13):
RIGHT i see You.

Speaker 12 (36:14):
Thursday, mark
