Speaker 1 (00:01):
Get your calls in now eight three three four one
two WSDX. Here's a quick bucco. Notes Jim Bonden, the
former MLBGM. Here's a great quote from him, and I
quote once the Pirates become the highest bidder on a
big free agent. Only then will we know they mean business.

(00:21):
For now, it's just eyewash unquote one percent true. And
if the Pirates offered Kyle Schwarber four years, one hundred
and twenty mili, thirty MILLI year, I read someplace that
the lie went up even more one hundred and twenty
five mil. If I'm expected to believe that, and I don't.

(00:46):
But if I'm expected to believe that, why can't they
offer what it takes to get Bob Bashett Because it
wouldn't take that much.

Speaker 2 (00:52):
Just overpay, which is what it would take.

Speaker 1 (00:54):
But overpay, go ahead, over pay, like Boden said, finally
be the highest bidder, finally gets somebody. Bobaschett ain't Kyle Swarbur,
and he got hurt last year, but he's still a
guy who would beat by far the best player. The
Pirates would have the best hitterer. So overpay, if that
money's there to pay Schwarber. Why can't it be there

(01:15):
to get Bobachett. Why can't the Pirates do that? And
the answer is because they have no intent whatsoever to
pay anybody, and that is helped out by the fact
that nobody wants to play in Pittsburgh. Boden said something
else that was really funny. I find this really funny.

(01:37):
He said Pirate fans should trade themselves to the Dodgers,
that they should root for the Dodgers, that that would
be better than spending your whole life and retiring as
a Pirate fan. They should trade themselves to the Dodgers. Now,
I'm a big believer you can't switch that whatever team

(01:59):
you root for is your team for life, not unlike
the nWo. But you can't switch unless The only way
I could see you switch is if you move to
another city, even if that city has a team already,
I can't see switching, but if that team, like I

(02:19):
have a friend of mine who was a Ranger fan,
grew up in New York, and he moved to Vegas
and then they got the Golden Knights and he became
a Knights fan.

Speaker 2 (02:27):
I don't know why, but I can see switching there.

Speaker 1 (02:29):
But Bobm's idea is funny because to be a pirate
fan is absolutely hopeless and perpetuity. But my question remains,
if they have one hundred and twenty mil available, one
hundred and twenty five mil whatever to go after Kost Swarber,
why can't they sign Bobashett?

Speaker 2 (02:48):
What would it take to get Bobachett? Offer him the.

Speaker 1 (02:50):
Same dealer Schwarber. Yeah, it's overpaying, but that's what you
gotta do. Offer Bishett the same dealer Swarber. It'd be
the highest bid. What's the worst that could happen? And
the answer is that he takes it. As far as
the powers are concerned, Nutting, that's the worst that could happen,
That Bechette would take it. These guys are lying to you,

(03:10):
they're cooking you, they're cheating the city, they're cheating everybody
they can cheat bottom line, and yet some of you
has have faith because you're stupid.

Speaker 3 (03:21):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (03:22):
Let's go to Kurt. Kurt, you're on with double n.

Speaker 4 (03:26):
Hey Mulham gonna.

Speaker 3 (03:28):
I want to talk hockey.

Speaker 5 (03:30):
What's up with the Pens in overtime? And why is
the shootout at death sense?

Speaker 4 (03:35):
What do to fix that?

Speaker 3 (03:36):
Uh?

Speaker 1 (03:37):
I'm not sure they can fix the shootout without well,
I don't know. Maybe Stuart Skinner. I mean, he's better
at the shootout than Jari was and shilloffs is, so
maybe he can help.

Speaker 2 (03:46):
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (03:47):
He's in goal tonight. I would let different shooters go,
but they're never going to take sit out of the
shootout because they just want their best players to go.
I don't think the shootout's fixable. I think they can
just play better three on three. I got to be honest,
some of the three on three games they've lost this year,
I think they're what one and four in overtime. I
think they've deserve to win some of the three on

(04:09):
three games three on three overtimes, but have been victimized
by lack of finishing and by bad goaltending. Like I
love morishof I do. I think he is the future,
and I think he's an all star goalie. He is
a lot too crappy goals in shootouts, including on Sunday
and that lost to Utah.

Speaker 5 (04:26):
Yeah yeah, I mean, never mind these third period collapses.
I'm just sitting here trying to figure out why through
whath and nine and now in a shootout going back
last year, it's.

Speaker 1 (04:34):
Just like, yeah, nine straight losses, but if you win
in regulation, you can avoid that if you don't collapse
in the third period. They would have avoided that against Utah.
And for that matter, did they lose an overtime on
Saturday the San Jose, Yeah, they lost an overtime. So yeah,
just winning.

Speaker 2 (04:48):
Regulation, Just don't blow leads.

Speaker 1 (04:51):
Uh up, next calls on the fifteen So dial now
eight three three four one two wxdx eight three three
four to one two wxdx and we got here Maguire
talking hockey at the bottom of the hour, one.

Speaker 2 (05:02):
O five to nine. What's that Tommy year again, isn't it?
I was the super genius, Mark Madden, super genius? What
were you afraid more of? Satan or Tea bagging.

Speaker 1 (05:11):
Tar Tea bagging?

Speaker 2 (05:12):
Great story, compelling and rich the exit one oh five nine, double.

Speaker 1 (05:20):
Them in the ex It's calls on the fifteens.

Speaker 3 (05:22):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (05:23):
I want to get your reaction to Steeler game from
last night. I think it's a convincing win. I'm just
not sure what we should be convinced of. Like I
said to the Fable, I mean, can this team be
Jacksonville Houston Buffalo or the LA Chargers in a playoff game,
even at home.

Speaker 2 (05:39):
I'm not sure.

Speaker 1 (05:40):
A couple of those teams I think that have no
chance against no chance against Buffalo or Houston.

Speaker 2 (05:45):
None.

Speaker 1 (05:47):
I mean that second half last night it was good
football by the Steelers. The four straight scoring drives were
a revelation. But would I predict them? Would I bet
on them to win a playoff game as of right now, No,
I would not.

Speaker 2 (05:59):
Now if you beat.

Speaker 1 (06:00):
Detroit and then went out, then you can convince me.
I'm really kind of hoping though, that last week against
Baltimore is for the division. That'd be fun unless they
lost somebody. Last night, I was at sidelines in Noville,
which was a great place, had a great time. It
was packed, great wings, great everything. Met a Liverpool fan.

(06:22):
He was wearing a Man United scarf through then somebody
gave him as a gift and go, bro, if you're Liverpool,
that's a gift. You should decline and in fact burn
in front of the gift giver. But somebody was kidding me,
nothing malicious, but said you said that they're not going
to make the playoffs, how will you feel if they do?
And I said, well, first off, I didn't say that.

(06:44):
I said they won't win a playoff game second off.
If they do make the playoffs, I get an extra
pay day by hosting something like this, So how about you?
And he laughed, But yeah, I think it was a
good game that they contained Miami's run.

Speaker 2 (06:59):
Rogers was precise gain Weill had a big night.

Speaker 1 (07:04):
As I said earlier, it was a vanilla for the Steelers,
but very fresh vanilla, like a brand new carton of briers.
On defense, they hit four sacks, seven tackles for loss.
Did not miss wat at all. And I don't think
they would miss him if he doesn't play again this year.
I don't think they'd miss him if he never played again.
I just think he's a pretty good edge rusher now.

(07:26):
And they got other guys, but luckily they only owe
him a billion dollars moving forward, and you know, they
were one and eleven without what.

Speaker 2 (07:36):
Until last night, and then they won. Maybe that turns
a page. I don't know.

Speaker 1 (07:40):
Maybe it has to, because I hear he's out for
the year, and I bet he sues the Steelers.

Speaker 2 (07:46):
I'm telling you he's gonna sue the Steelers.

Speaker 1 (07:48):
Better call Saul. Better call Saul. Let's go to John
and Beaver. John, you're all with Mark.

Speaker 6 (07:56):
Hey, Mark, I do agree the win was good, but
I'm not sure it gets them anywhere meaningful. I mean,
you often talk about being in the mushy middle and
how they're desperate for a three and fourteen season, But
do you really trust the Steeler organization to do anything
worthwhile with that three and thirteen fourteen season and not

(08:17):
screw it up?

Speaker 1 (08:17):
And even though I no, not really, but you gotta
it's better than this, like I said, and this goes
for any team, not just the Steelers. If you go
four and thirteen, there's no guarantee you get it right
with that pick, but you might. And right now in
the mushy middle, the guarantee is not contending.

Speaker 2 (08:34):
For Super Bowl ever. And I really believe with.

Speaker 1 (08:37):
The position they put this team in that it's a
good thing that the bar is set in a playoff win,
because I think that's the most they can possibly hope for.
I think they are literally four or five years away
from even remotely contending for a championship because even if
they add the right pieces, you know, in the in
the next few drafts to come, they have mangled enough drafts,

(08:59):
not least that Kenny Pickett pick in the first round
that by the time the guys they draft are in
their prime, a lot of their key players that are
old now won't be with the team anymore and they'll
be rebuilding at a different level. Does that make any sense?
I mean, I just think they are just in a
bad spot. I think they're a bad franchise that's badly managed,

(09:20):
and last night's win doesn't change that.

Speaker 2 (09:22):
Let's go to Seth and Harmer. They there, I said,
good day.

Speaker 7 (09:30):
I agree with you. I think if they get that
version of Rogers that they got last night, they might
be able to surprise somebody if they have a home
playoff game.

Speaker 4 (09:40):
But I don't.

Speaker 7 (09:41):
I mean, I'll believe it when I see it. Note
with them until I actually see something different, because I
just don't trust that they're going anywhere with it. And
like you said about what I think the defense that
might have been the defense is the best game all
year without him because he's essentially a non factor most games.

Speaker 1 (09:58):
Well, don't forget their internal goal is just to win
a playoff game, because they haven't done it for so long.
If that's your goal, which I think is ridiculous for
Team of the Steelers pedigree, a pedigree long since stead
but a pedigree based on super Bowls. You know, if
that's your goal, then go for it. Yeah, maybe they
can do that, but maybe not. But if you make
winning one solitary playoff game your super Bowl, I think

(10:21):
that's pathetic.

Speaker 2 (10:23):
Thank you for the call.

Speaker 1 (11:47):
Got the Penguins hosting Edmonton tonight. Joining me now for
the best hockey talk anywhere. He's done everything you can
in the great game. It's always terrific to speak with
Pierre McGuire. Pierre, what's your take on the Jari trade?
We haven't talked since then. From both teams perspective.

Speaker 3 (12:03):
Well, Number one, I think Edmonton knew what they were
getting in Tristan Jardy because he's played in their organization
before with the Edmonton Oil Kings, so they had a
lot of internal knowledge on him. Number one. Number two,
I think they knew they had run the course with
Stuart Skinner. There was probably some internal doubt amongst the
players and the coaching staff and even the management group.

(12:24):
So I think that probably lent to some of this.
They also know that they probably didn't want to overextend
contract wise in his contracts up at the end of
the year. And I think Kulak, by the way, is
going to be a really good addition for the Pittsburgh
ten was. I think Edmonton probably felt that he would
probably priced himself out of the market as well, so

(12:46):
that's why they moved them. I think it's honestly, I
think it's a good trade for Pittsburgh. I think Skinner's
going to want to prove a lot of people wrong.
Koulax a guy that's been in the final three times,
once in Montreal, twice with Edmonton. He's got a lot
of experience, and I think as much as I like
Tristan Jarry, he's never won a playoff series in the
National Hockey League.

Speaker 2 (13:05):
Ever, No, I agree on all those points.

Speaker 1 (13:08):
I don't know if the Penguins will reup Skinner or Kulak,
but to get rid of Jari's remaining two years on
a pretty pricey deal, I think was the impetus here.

Speaker 2 (13:16):
But let's stick with Skinner for a second. Is he underrated?

Speaker 1 (13:19):
Do you think he got too much blame for losing
those two Stanley Cup finals with Edmonton.

Speaker 3 (13:25):
Oh yeah, he got way too much. Blame the part
of the problem there in Edmonton, and until they face
up to that, they're not winning any Stanley Cup. Maybe
they do face up to it this year. But here's
part of the problem. Their star players go on to
play defense. Their star players just want to run a gun,
and that's a huge problem. If you ever watch the
goals that go in in Edmonton, sometimes it's the goalie fall.

(13:45):
Yet like every other said, he got more times than not,
it's because of breakdowns defensively because stars are on the
wrong side of the puck. They're cheating for offense, not
worried about playing defense. It's a huge issue in their organization.

Speaker 1 (13:57):
Could Edmonton win a Cup with Jari he said he
played junior a there the oil Kings. They know about him.
But the Oilers necessarily better off. Do they have a
better chance in the playoffs?

Speaker 3 (14:09):
They might go into it with a clean slate. I
just think there was a lot of pollution between the
ears of a lot of players because they've been hearing
so much about your goalies not good enough, Your goalies
not good enough. Pretty soon he start to beat it.
Even if it's not true. I remember doing a playoff
series Mark, it's a great story between the benches for NBC,
and I heard a star player on one bench say

(14:31):
really loud during a TV timeout to the entire bench,
to the coaching staff, is this guy ever gonna make
a save? He's talking about his own goalie, And eventually
that team pumped that goalie and they went on to
having some success. But I'll never forget that. And I
think there does become a point where players hear so

(14:52):
much and they get pollution between the ears about this
player can't do this, this player can't do that, We
can never win with this player, and it becomes a
little bit of a hindrance in the dressing room.

Speaker 1 (15:02):
And let's be honest, Pierre, to do that is easier
than looking in the mirror sometimes.

Speaker 3 (15:08):
Oh yes, you are correct, sir.

Speaker 4 (15:10):
Are I.

Speaker 1 (15:13):
Want to stay with Kulac for a second because I
like him. I think like you, he's an underestimated piece.
He's a very professional NHL defenseman, and he played a
lot with Bouchard and Edmonton. Now he's going to partner
up with Saint Ivany tonight in his first game. But
I would think he would eventually get in tandem with
either Latang or Carlson.

Speaker 3 (15:32):
I think that's probably the grand plan for the rest
of this year, especially if they're going to push for
the playoffs. I've already talked about his experience. I love
the determination or the words you used in terms of
professional He's extremely professional, carries himself well, played for an
original sixteen in Montreal that had scrutin me every single day,
So he's not going to be overwhelmed by moments. Three

(15:53):
straight or three trips I should say, not straight. Three
trips to the final, two in Edmonton, one in Montreal.
He lost all three times, doesn't matter. That's valuable, valuable
game experience, and he was a very good teammate in
every situation. So I think it's actually a very underrated
part of the acquisition by Kyle Newbis and Jason Spetzer.
In Pittsburgh, we're.

Speaker 1 (16:15):
Talking to Pierre Maguire here on the Home of the
Penguins one oh five nine, the x per brought to
us by Always Safe Flagging and Traffic Control. Pierre, what
is causing all these late collapses by the Penguins and
how can they get him to stop.

Speaker 3 (16:30):
The neutral zones not good enough right now. They're in between.
Some guys think they're going to be aggressive, some guys
think they're going to be passive. They're gonna have to
all start singing from the same song book, Number one,
number two. I know they want to be aggressive, but
the defense can't pinch if they're not being insulated by
a back checking forward. So that's something they got to
look at. They got to pay more attention the end

(16:51):
zone face offs, and I think one of the biggest things,
and it's again, I was spoiled because I had two
big head coaches that I worked for, and Bob Johnson
and Scottie. You got to make sure you get the
right people on the ice at key times in game
in the games, and I'm not sure I'm not taking
a run at the coaching staff, but I'm just gonna

(17:11):
say that. I think they'll probably look at some of
the tape and they'll realize, maybe they could have used
a different person here, and maybe they could have used
a different person there. So you start to learn about
your roster and then look at it's the first time
around for these guys. They're just getting to game thirty
five or close to it, and that's really not a
lot of time to judge your team. By the time
you get to game forty, you should know your players.

Speaker 2 (17:33):
Pierre, I agree with all that.

Speaker 1 (17:35):
I particularly flintched when he had Carlson Latang out there
together the righty righty pair and both offensive defenseman to
protect the lead. I also didn't like it when he
went with like the Hayes line to protect the lead.
Why not trust your kids. It's a team trying to build.
San Jose had their kids out there on Saturday.

Speaker 3 (17:54):
Yeah. Yeah, they don't have many older players. That's probably
why too. But you're right, you know, you're actually right.
I'll tell you one to know. This is not a
run at thank Kimdall. You know what I think of
than Kimdoll. I'm blown away how good he is and
his composure. That's a lot of pressure to put on
a guy to say, as a coaching staff, we're going
to play him ahead of Sydney Crosby, and then you

(18:14):
turn the puck over and it ends up at the
back of your net and all of a sudden, guys
are like, really you just did that. Who are the
greatest players in the history of the sport. It's something
to think about. I'm sure they've talked about it internally.
Doesn't mean that they were wrong. It just means you
got to think about the whole thing and what that
looks like when you're making organizational decisions like that. But

(18:36):
I do think they need to look at that as
a stat in terms of who they put on the
ice and who they decide can help them protectly eat
the best.

Speaker 1 (18:45):
Pierre, how much of this is mental? We've talked about
some of the ex's and oh, some of the personnel.
How much of this is just something repeating because it's
in their DNA.

Speaker 3 (18:57):
I would hope that's not the case.

Speaker 4 (18:58):
Now.

Speaker 3 (18:58):
I know Malcolm's not playing, but still, Nola Charge's got
a lot of experience. You know, Kidney Krause has got
a lot of experience. Brian Rusk got a lot of experience.
You know, Carlson's got a wealth of experience. But hey,
I mean, these aren't neophyte players. They can stabilize situations
and calm guys down. Kevin Hayes has a wealth of experience,
quel huge experience, So I don't see that beating, which

(19:20):
I really don't. I'm a little bit perplexed that they
haven't figured out yet a group that can help them
defend the league. But I think eventually they will figure
it out, and I think it'll be sooner rather than later.

Speaker 1 (19:34):
What's weird is they were up three nothing versus Utah
on Sunday and in two periods, And I got to
be honest, Pier. I was talking to Nicole Chick, Edzo's kid,
who does broadcasting for Utah, and I told him Utah
would win at three nothing.

Speaker 2 (19:48):
It was just it was just eerie.

Speaker 1 (19:51):
How I expected and how the crowd seemed to expect
it to.

Speaker 3 (19:56):
I was watching the game from maybe fifteen hundred miles away,
and I was like, okay, bringing up and going into
the third period, what could go wrong? The start of
the third period is what could go wrong? And it did.

Speaker 5 (20:10):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (20:10):
Now I had a bad vibe after the first go in.
I'm like, oh, these guys are on their heels, not
on their toes, and that's exactly what they were for
the rest of the game.

Speaker 1 (20:19):
How much of it's bad goaltending, that's a one question.
But I think it's been a factor.

Speaker 3 (20:24):
Oh, it's been a little bit of a factor. It's
a little bit like what Montreal's gone through too, when
they've had some really bad blowout losses. In Montreal, it's
been a little bit about their in zone coverage, so
that's a little bit like Pittsburgh, and it's been a
lot about their shaky goaltending, and I think you could
say that in Pittsburgh as well. I do think Skinner's
going to want to PPW prove people wrong. I really do.

(20:46):
And he's also obviously really urgent right now, Mark, because
when you think about it, he doesn't have a contract
going forward. This is the ultimate dress rehearsal for him,
not just with the Penguins, but for the whole league.
Could you imagine what his earth would be on the
market if he helped propel the Penguins into the playoffs.
That would be monumental for him.

Speaker 1 (21:07):
Big story tonight, Pierre, maybe the biggest story, and I'm
a miss for not having talked about it in this
segment till now. Sid needs two points to tie Mario
for all time points leader in Penguins franchise history. That's
amazing and I think more than anything, it's a tribute
to Sid's consistency.

Speaker 3 (21:25):
It is, and when you consider that in the middle
part of his career, after the Stecco hit in the
Winter Classic, the concussion issues for Sid and how he
was able to really reel it in and get it
back on track. It reminds me a lot of his
good buddy Patrese berger On went through the same thing
earlier in his career in Boston when he got hit

(21:47):
by Randy Jones or the Philadelphia Flyers in a Boston
Philadelphia game way way back. Both guys found a way
to reel it in and obviously Burger all legitimate cannadate
for Hockey Hall name like Sid to show him to
be in the Hockey Hall fame.

Speaker 5 (22:04):
Ye.

Speaker 3 (22:04):
I think that what Sid's doing is a phenomenal testament
to work, habits, determination, athletic ability and mental toughness. He
is a mentally tough guy.

Speaker 1 (22:16):
And obviously at tribute to just how skilled he is.
I never thought Pierre, never thought I'd put anyone in
a class with Mario, Bobby Or and Wayne Gretzky, But
I honestly feel Sidney Crosby is I will.

Speaker 3 (22:29):
Never forget talking about Sid at the World Junior in
two thousand and five in Grand Forks, North Dakota, where
he played on the line with patrese Berger on Corey
Perry and I said, he's got the lower body domination
of Peter Fordberg, he's got the peripheral vision of Wayne Gretzky,
and he's got the pizaz of Mary Lemier. I said

(22:50):
that you can't believe how mad people were at me.
People were absolutely curious. You can't compare this kid to Gretzky.
How dare you compare it to feder Forsburg. No way
is he ever going to be in Mary the News class.
You know what, I haven't got an apology leadership.

Speaker 2 (23:09):
And you won't. But that's the business we've chosen.

Speaker 1 (23:11):
Pierre, What about the Quinn used What about the quinn
Us trade? I feel like both teams did pretty good.
Although Minnesota obviously got the best player.

Speaker 3 (23:21):
They got the best player, but it's two different needs.
Minnesota wants to try to go on a run. It's
judicical utilization of the salary cap space that was created
by Zach Greasy and Ryan Soon no longer having their
contracts on the book's dead money. They use that dead
money not to go out and get five different players.
They use to get one player they really need it.

(23:42):
So Quinn Hughes will be a huge fit. I know
every single one of the players that's gone to Vancouver.
Whether it's Marco Rossi, whether it's Liam Ogrin, or whether
it's Zeeve Bulliam the first round pick this summer, I
don't know, but eventually we will know who it is.
I will tell you this about all three of those
player went to Vancouver. They're all really talented. Olger, it's

(24:03):
a vastly underrated asset in the league. Marco Ross he's
a fifty five to sixty five a year point scorer.
And I would say, Geeve William is going to be
a guy that will play in the All Star Game
and will not be as good as Quinn Hughes. What
will provide a lot of the offensive Quinn Hughes used
to provide us from the back end in Vancouver. So
I think a real good trade for both teams. I

(24:25):
love how you said that, and it really I think
from Minnesota. Now as they're calling it, it's not Minnesota anymore, March,
it's Quinnesota.

Speaker 1 (24:35):
Well, we'll see about that and we'll see how long
it lasts too, because I do wonder Quinn has two
years left on his deal and the U's brother seemed
determined to play together somewhere at some point, don't.

Speaker 3 (24:45):
They They do. But here's one thing that I thought
was so smart that's been really under reported. Billy Garran.
On Saturday, when Ottawa was in Minnesota to play, Billy
Garran got on a private plane and threw to Vancouver
and brought Quinn Hughes back to Minnesota from Vancouver. I

(25:05):
thought that was unbelievably wise. Jews really appreciated it. And
who's to say that maybe the Jersey would be forced
to trade the two Ues brothers.

Speaker 2 (25:15):
Don't know that, That's what I mean. I think that's
more likely.

Speaker 1 (25:18):
I think Minnesota is in a better place in two
years than New Jersey is.

Speaker 3 (25:22):
Oh for sure. I would agree with that one hundred percent.
So we'll see what happens there. We'll see. I don't
think I think if Quinn does well, and I think
he will, and the way he's being treated by Johnny
Heines and Billy Garrett, and remember dress rehearsal for the
Olympics with Brock Faber and Quinn. He is both going
to be part of Team USA and they're probably going
to be defense partners. So for the next month, and

(25:43):
a half before they start in Milano and Cortina. Those
guys are going to be playing together. It's a ready
made asset to Team USA.

Speaker 1 (25:51):
Assuming there's a rink to play on. Pierre has always
great stuff. I will talk to you next week. Enjoy
the hockey.

Speaker 3 (25:57):
Thanks well, my friends appreciated the care. Everybody.

Speaker 1 (26:00):
That's the great Pierre Maguire. Nobody better to talk hockey
with Pierre. Brought to us by Always Say Flagging and
Traffic Control making traffic safe again. Called four one two
three oh one twenty three hundred, or visit us online
at awsafe dot net for a quote Today. Now it's
time to ask Mark anything, always a fun part of
the show. Call now and ask Mark anything, and I

(26:21):
do mean anything. Dial eight three three four one two
ninety nine thirty nine. That's eight three three four one
two w xd x, or leave a talkback via the
iHeartMedia app by using the microphone icon that is easily accessible.
But call eight three three four one two ninety nine
thirty nine. I'm Mark mad one oh five nine.

Speaker 5 (26:42):
It's the Woodie Show tomorrow morning from six till ten.

Speaker 2 (26:45):
Whoa you got a day Wednesday?

Speaker 6 (26:48):
Maam on one O five nst've always served our neighbors
by offering the best value on new Ford models.

Speaker 2 (26:53):
Just and now it's a super genius mark madam thing.
I'm not sure.

Speaker 1 (26:59):
Just ain't in.

Speaker 2 (27:00):
It's soft and I use a bunch of pillows and
I swore the ex at one five nine. You know
it's crazy.

Speaker 1 (27:19):
I see people saying that fans should regret having chanted
fire Tom Win at the previous Stealer home game when
they got lit up by Buffalo. I don't see it
that way at all. I don't think this takes any
of the pressure off Tom Win at all. I don't
think a couple wins in a row proved that he's
a good coach. I would go with the evidence of
no playoff wins for eight years. I would go with

(27:40):
the evidence of playoff wins in only four of his
nineteen seasons. That to me, is much more overwhelming evidence
than just having won a couple games in a row.
If you think he's a good coach, okay, then he
should have no trouble winning a playoff game.

Speaker 2 (27:54):
Or even two.

Speaker 1 (27:55):
But he ain't a good coach, and last night proved
nothing in that regard. All it proved is they're better
in Miami on the given nights period.

Speaker 2 (28:04):
That's it.

Speaker 1 (28:05):
Now it's time to ask Mark anything brought to us
by People's Natural Gas, People's Hyphengas dot Com. Let's go
to Mark and Pittsburgh. Mark Aren with double M.

Speaker 4 (28:17):
Hey.

Speaker 8 (28:18):
I remember at the beginning of the season, before the
NFL season started, he said, Mark my words, the Kansas
City Chiefs will not make the playoffs. My question the
year is, did make any money on it?

Speaker 1 (28:31):
I'm not sure you can bet that a team just
doesn't make the playoffs. But you know what's funny. I
used to gamble a lot, like table games at Vegas
and sports as well, but that was when I didn't
have money, because it felt like if I made a score,
it would be you know, better living or at least
better drinking and eating that day.

Speaker 2 (28:50):
Whereas now that I have money, I don't gamble nearly
as much.

Speaker 1 (28:52):
So to answer your question, no, I didn't might not
make any money because Kansas City missed the playoffs, but
I think you would agree. Mark, that just reconfirming that
I'm the smartest man on the face of the planet.

Speaker 2 (29:04):
With with with.

Speaker 1 (29:06):
Visionary powers, almost like Negro Domus. That's reward enough.

Speaker 2 (29:10):
Isn't it.

Speaker 8 (29:11):
I did think you were crazy for predicting that, but
I had to commend you on it.

Speaker 2 (29:15):
And here we are. Thank you. Let's go to Jeff.
Jeff ask Mark anything.

Speaker 5 (29:21):
Hey, Mark?

Speaker 7 (29:22):
If you're in Vegas and you fart in the crowd
of elevation.

Speaker 2 (29:25):
And we just we don't do fart jokes here. Let's
go to a talkback. Hey, Mark, you've been saying for
years now the NFL is a passing league.

Speaker 9 (29:34):
Are you willing to admit.

Speaker 2 (29:35):
Now that the NFL is really a running league?

Speaker 3 (29:38):
Now?

Speaker 1 (29:40):
It maybe has leaned a bit more in that direction
this year because of the decline of a lot of quarterbacks,
But it's a passing league. You need a great quarterback
to win. And I will say that until a Super
Bowl gets won by a quarterback who's not great, And
I know that has happened occasionally, but not often enough
for me to think that you can do it. You
can think you can do it without that guy, and

(30:02):
you're not gonna do it with a forty two year old.
Let's go to Mario and Raleigh. Mario ask Mark anything, Hey?

Speaker 6 (30:11):
What I mean?

Speaker 2 (30:12):
What's going on?

Speaker 3 (30:12):
Man?

Speaker 6 (30:14):
I just want to talk about the third and fourth
line center depth heading into what we anticipate might be
a playoff run for the Pens. Going back to nine, sixteen,
and seventeen, they had Stall Banino and then Culling obviously
for the fourth line. What do you see as Kendall
and Achari slash Blake Lizotte going into pasta run this year.

Speaker 2 (30:36):
Yeah, they're not going to have a playoff run this year.
They'll be lucky they make it.

Speaker 1 (30:40):
You're gonna compare the centers they gotten out of the
centers they got, then you're gonna compare the team they
gotten out of the team they had then.

Speaker 2 (30:46):
Kendall's not a third line style center.

Speaker 1 (30:47):
The best thing that can happen to him is when
Malkin leaves and he no longer blocks Kendall for being
the second line center this year. It's okay, it can't
happen moving forward. I mean, Blake Lizotte's a ham and ager.

Speaker 2 (30:59):
He's no.

Speaker 1 (31:00):
We're near as good as the centers that they had
back then, let alone a guy like Benino.

Speaker 2 (31:03):
I'm just not sure what you're trying to get at here.

Speaker 6 (31:07):
No, I was seeing if they do make the playoffs,
saying they do if they had that complimentary Deff with Kuise.

Speaker 1 (31:12):
They have the best centers in the league. If they
make the playoffs, still go all the way. You didn't
hear a word I said, did you let's go to
Dick in Churchill? Dick, you're on with double m.

Speaker 2 (31:22):
Uh.

Speaker 9 (31:22):
Yeah, I'm from Churchill, but I'm actually in Raleigh, so
that's pretty weird.

Speaker 3 (31:25):
The last guy was in Raleigh.

Speaker 2 (31:27):
And that is weird.

Speaker 3 (31:28):
If you.

Speaker 9 (31:30):
I'm curious if you saw theat ESPN popped up at
the beginning of the second quarter last night about the
Steelers and when they score more than seven points in
the first quarter, did you see that? Okay, I did
sixty sixty four straight games they haven't scored more than
seven in the first quarter, and we went and looked

(31:51):
and that game that they did it was a Minka
pick six. See we added, you have to add twenty
six more to that before the offense.

Speaker 2 (32:00):
The offense. Yeah, I mean yeah, the Steelers.

Speaker 1 (32:03):
You know why, come on, you know why the Steelers
come on super conservative every game to try to force
a rock fight, and last night was no exception. They
picked it up obviously when they scored touchdowns on four
straight possessions. This is a badly coached team with an
antiquated style. So when I hear that number, it might
seem shocking, but it just kind of figures.

Speaker 2 (32:24):
Don't it really.

Speaker 3 (32:27):
Fair enough?

Speaker 2 (32:28):
Thank you? Let's go to a talkback, super genius.

Speaker 1 (32:33):
Why do they Why is Utah called the Mammoth not
the mammos?

Speaker 7 (32:38):
I was just curious.

Speaker 2 (32:40):
That's a good question.

Speaker 1 (32:41):
I think mammoth is the ploral for mammoth, as in
the giant elephant like beast with tusts from prehistoric times
or maybe a little bit after prehistoric. I don't have
my time frame right here. They wanted to be called
the Yeti originally, as in the Abominable Snowman, but I
think they had copyright problems with that YETI company that
makes they make coolers.

Speaker 2 (33:01):
I think that's right.

Speaker 1 (33:03):
So I liked when they were the Utah Hockey Club.
If I owned a team that didn't have a rich tradition,
I would like if I moved a team to a
new city, I would change their name every year for
the purpose of merchandising.

Speaker 2 (33:17):
Let's go to Bobby in Bloomfield.

Speaker 4 (33:19):
Bobby, Hey, Mark, Yeah, I was trying to explain to
my son yesterday. He's a little bit young about the
casino deal. Do you have a I know you're like
taught politics, but do you have an opinion on how
that went down and Mario's offer?

Speaker 3 (33:35):
Wait?

Speaker 2 (33:35):
What are you talking about.

Speaker 4 (33:37):
The casino deal? I'm judging up the past a little bit.

Speaker 1 (33:40):
You mean the Penguins trying to get the Penguins trying
to get an arena through casino funding?

Speaker 8 (33:46):
Correct?

Speaker 2 (33:46):
Yeah, what about it?

Speaker 1 (33:47):
I mean, I mean they they the license went to
somebody besides Mario, but they worked it out, so they
got it anyway.

Speaker 2 (33:54):
I mean, that's it in a nutshell? What exactly else
do you want to know?

Speaker 4 (33:58):
No, I just wanted to see if you had a
strong opinion on it, because it was just crazy how
it went down. It just seemed like a no brainer
that Mary had the only good offer.

Speaker 1 (34:07):
No, he didn't have the only good offer. Harris had
an offer too. I mean, obviously Rivers got it. I
mean it just I wanted Mario to get it, but
it worked out good. They got an arena. I don't
think it's a big deal all these years later. Your
son doesn't need to know. Tell your son to read
a book. Thanks for the call.
