ESPN fifteen thirty m O Egger broadcastingtoday from the Holy Grail downtown, right
across the street from Great American Fallpark. Tomorrow night, FC Cincinnati with the
second of free consecutive home games, coming off their six to one drubbing of
Miami last Saturday. A great match, an awesome atmosphere, and hopefully something
from our end that can be replicatedtomorrow. Is the Orange and Blue host

(00:24):
Charlotte. A game starts tomorrow nightat seven thirty. You can watch it
for free on MLS Season Pass viathe AppleTV app, or just go onlinetv
dot Apple dot com. On thecall is our buddy Steve Caangelosi, nice
enough to join us. It's goodto have you. What's going on,
Steve lo Good afternoon to you.I'm stuck here at Newark Airport in New

(00:46):
Jersey. Thunderstorms are rolling in,so hopefully I'm taking off sometime tonight.
I'm optimistic, though, Thanks forhaving me. I've made that drive from
New Jersey to Cincinnati often it's agood twelve hours, so if you get
stuck, you'll be Okay. That'sencouraging, Okay, I'll keep that in
mind. I hope it doesn't cometo that. You and I last talked

(01:07):
in the middle of March season wasjust getting started. FC Cincinnati's performances early
were I use the word uneven often. Since then, a lot has changed,
A lot has changed, maybe notfor the good because of who they've
lost, But oh boy, thateffort on Saturday night against Miami was the
best of any team that I've watchedthis season. What did you make about

(01:27):
how they What did you make ofhow they played on Saturday night? Well,
a lot has changed since that lastconversation. First and foremost, they've
won twelve of their last fourteen matches, and that's something that's only happened one
other time in a single MLS season, So that speaks volumes. I spoke
with Pat Noonan yesterday, and Ithink he had the proper context for what

(01:49):
we saw just a couple of nightsago in the rout of Miami. I
think they're smart enough to be proudof that effort against the team that was
top in the league, but alsosmart enough to know the dynamic will be
very different the next time they meetin August in Fort Lauderdale. So with

(02:09):
that said, they're just checking theirego at the door. It was an
outstanding performance that led not only tothe coach but three of his players to
be on the Team of the Matchday. That's how good Kubo, Acosta
and Odajano were. They were lightsout. I don't think you'll see a
finer performance collectively from three teammates inthe same game. I think that you

(02:34):
struck at what has impressed me mostabout Pat Noonan's club these last three years.
They have had some insanely emotional victories, right, They've also had some
really debilitating losses, and in neithercase has what happened the previous game the
previous week lingered on. They havemoved on very well from some tough losses,

(02:55):
and you've always gotten the sense,at least I have, that that
if they had a really performance thematch before. You know, football coaches
and basketball coaches, and I'm suresoccer coaches always talking about the twenty four
hour rule, this team has alwaysreally been good at moving on and focusing
on what's next, which is whyI'm really encourage to see what they can
do tomorrow night. I think thatspeaks to a couple of things. I

(03:17):
think that speaks to veteran leadership, and it's good to see that when you
consider that a fair amount of theirroster turned over from the team that won
Supporters Shield last year, right andthink about how that roster largely turned over
with guys with MLS experience. DeAndreYeblin coming in with MLS experience a big

(03:39):
part of this, Miles Robinson cominginto the team with the same and I
think that translates to the things thatyou're talking about. Veteran guys who've been
around the block, who played inbig games for club and country, and
I think that reads into something verypositive for them when they're trying to shake
off that rare bed room result thatthey've had. This is a team that's

(04:01):
fifteen four and three, so wehaven't witnessed a whole lot of that.
But right now, this is ateam that has all the pistons firing and
they are in the midst of whatI think is just a fascinating Supporter Shield
race in the East. Let's talkabout the team they play tomorrow. They
square it off against Charlotte in lateMarch. That match ended in a draw.

(04:25):
It feels like forever ago. What'sdifferent about Charlotte from then to now,
Well, this is a team Ithink that's going to be reckoned with
and I think that this is ateam that Dean Smith will be disappointed,
their head coach first year in MLS, disappointed if they don't produce a top
six finish in the Eastern Conference.I think they're showing themselves that. Well.

(04:48):
It's hard to answer your question directly, because this is a better team
than they were earlier in the year, but they're having a gaping hole for
this game on Saturday. Now,this is a team that I think,
in the transfer window needs to goout and get a natural number nine.
Their best option right now is avery good young player in Patrick Asimon.

(05:12):
He's got size, he's got presence, he's got a fine touch, and
he's got a red card suspension thattakes him out of the game on Saturday
night. So is it set upfor Cincinnati to do some wonderful things before
the home fans tomorrow night. Iwant to say probably, But every time
you take these things for granted, you get a little bit disappointed in how

(05:32):
you read the game. Defense isthis team's calling cards? Charlotte. They
went nearly the entire month of Maywithout conceding a goal. That's a tremendous
accomplishment. They've been a little bitleakier since then, But I think you
can say the same thing about Cincinnati, considering the injuries that they're dealing with
in the back. No mi Oscarfor the rest of the season. It's

(05:55):
a good matchup, but I'd bedisappointed if Cincinnati didn't come out and dictate
the terms of the game. Tomorrownight. Match Tomorrow Night, seven thirty
for free MLS season pass on AppleTV. Steve Canzelosi has the match for
you, assuming he gets the Cincinnation time for Tomorrow night at seven thirty.
You mentioned the supporter shield race.Let's cut it in half and talk
about the Eastern Conference. I wouldlove to say it's a two team race.

(06:18):
I'm not naive enough to do thatas much as I want to eliminate
Columbus, so I won't break downthe top of the East for me.
How many teams have a shot?Well, I think you've navigated that well
on your own. It's three, because that's the separation that we have now
in the East, the Big three, And I think that there was a

(06:40):
little bit in the back of theminds of observers that we would go into
League's Cup, or let's just saypost Copa America with Inter Miami shaking off
a couple of disappointing results in lightof who they missed during that time.
Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, andthe TS Rojas all left for their respective

(07:01):
countries for Copa America. What happenswithout those players, Miami reels off four
straight wins until they get cooled offby your team just a couple of nights
ago. So that separation that Ithink Cincinnati wanted from Miami never came into
play, and I think that makesit all the more fascinating. As far
as Columbus goes, I think gamesat hand are exactly that they are games

(07:27):
at hand. They are fully loadedto make a run at the top of
the table themselves. But I thinkCincinnati and Miami are probably in the more
enviable position right now. You don'tknow, There's gonna be a lot of
things that happen between now and theend of the season. Who prioritizes League's
Cup, Who has a good runin League's Cup? Because remember this,

(07:48):
the teams that went the farthest inLeague's Cup last year all struggled when the
regular season resumed after the wear andtear of that tournament. It happened to
Miami, it happened to Philadelphia,it happened in Nashville, which was a
finalist in that tournament. So Ithink there's a lot that we can't predict.
And right now, the only thingI would say that separates the three

(08:13):
is the guy who wears the tenshirt and pink in South Florida. Other
than that, these are three prettyeven teams. Well said, I hope
you get out in time. Idon't want you to have to make that
drive, but you know twelve hours, you'll still be here by kickoff.
I appreciate the time as always.Man, what's the record for what's the
record for the largest Uber price tagin one night? Maybe I'll approach that.

(08:37):
Thanks a lot, mo, Iappreciate it. Now, you got
it? Travel Save Tomorrow night seventhirty Steve Cangelosi the match on Apple TV.
It's a free on MLS season pass. Also get it on the Apple
