(00:00):
One covers the Bengals like ESPN fifteenthirty, Cincinnati's sports station. Here we
(00:17):
go the Mugger Show. I amstill not Moegar, Cincinnati's ESPN fifteen thirty.
Chad Brendle in for today and tomorrowand for Tony Pike on Monday.
Should be a lot of fun.Thank you for choosing me and my producer
(00:44):
extraordinaire Austin Elmore Austin double duty todayfresh off of a phenomenal since he three
point sixty Austin, your your questionsfor Paul are for for for Tom gletter.
We're outstanding. Thank you chat.I appreciate that. It's good to
have my work recognized. It's uh. I always look forward to when I
(01:08):
come in to fill in form.Oh, I sit in your studio and
annoy you sometimes even talking to youwhen the mic is hot. Correct.
Yeah, there's you know, tonsof space for you and and tearing to
go and eat your food and hangout. But you guys do it in
the hear with me while I'm onthe air. It's great. Yeah,
well it's it's it's the privilege ofwatching a true professional work. That's why
(01:34):
now you can't Now you can't getmad at me about it. That's what
it is. Now. You can'tget mad at me about it because it's
it's truly just to uh to towatch and and hear the dulcet tones of
Austin Ellmore on Sincy three sixty.Boy, nobody was happier than me,
uh as I was, uh,you know, doing some show prep and
(01:55):
hanging out with the dogs this morning. I did not play any NCAA twenty
five this morning because that usually leadsme to playing more than I should,
So I held off until this eveningand then Bang Bengals Ring of Honor inductions
announced. And if you work inthis business, there's especially you know,
(02:20):
mid to late July. Camp hasnot started yet, Baseball is in the
All Star break. It's also akind of a lost season as it stands
for the Reds in terms of expectations. Sometimes you are just begging for something
to happen that's not catastrophic, sosome would say, and to get this
(02:44):
is a radio hosts like best wishesbecause it just drops topic one a right
into your lap pun intended there.Because I'm a little upset with not the
selections. I don't want to godown that route, and I talked about
(03:05):
this with Tony at the end ofthe previous radio program. I think Corey
Dillon and Tim mcrumer I absolutely deserving. You cannot have a Bengals Ring of
Honor without those two guys. Austin, am I wrong for thinking this has
gone on too long without Dave Laphambeing included in this. I don't necessarily
(03:35):
think that he should be in bynow, like I want him to be
in, and he deserves to bein, but I don't, you know,
I mean, he will get in, I know, but I just
think not only for a very, very very notable playing career, but also
he's been the voice of your franchisefor a couple of decades. Yeah,
I mean, I get it,But it's like it's also at the same
(03:58):
time, there's a lot of greatplayers. This is partially on the Bengals
for sure, because this should havebeen started a long time ago and then
Dave Lapham would be in and Iwouldn't have had this conversation in twenty twenty
four about the Bengals honoring somebody thathas meant so much to the organization.
But that said, look, CoreyDillon in a time when I didn't want
(04:23):
to watch the Bengals much less couldyou imagine playing for them through the era
of that. Corey Dyllon was herenineteen ninety seven to two thousand and three,
played seven seasons in Cincinnati. Herushed for over one thousand yards,
and six of them his last seasonis the only year he did not have
a thousand yard rushing. Thousand yardsrushing as a Bengal, that's impressive.
(04:49):
Seven years in Cincinnati, eight thousandyards, forty five touchdowns. And as
you've heard quite a bit today ifyou've paid any attention what the Bengals released,
and then the conversations with Corey Dillon. I mean a guy that in
(05:10):
an era where they could not movethe ball through the air, by and
large, everybody knew the Bengals aregoing to hand the ball to Corey Dillon
and that was going to be thebasis of their offense. And he still
got the job done time and timeand time again. It's one of the
few things like if you remember thoseyears, and bless you if you don't.
(05:32):
There's a lot of those years Iwish I could erase from my brain
as a Bengals fan, that guycame to work and got the job done.
It was he always the happiest camperin the room. No, but
I wouldn't have been either. Hewas a competitor. He wanted to win.
Those teams didn't win a whole lot, but he was. I mean,
(05:57):
could you imagine, Austin, howgood would the Bengals be if Corey
Dillon was standing next to Joe Burrowright now? They'd be unstoppable. I
mean, think about how good theoffense would be with all the weapons that
they have and putting a just apowerhouse back like that next to an MVP
level quarterback and all those weapons, the offense would be virtually unstoppable. And
(06:24):
Corey Dillon would have thrived in asystem like that. So you feel bad
for him that he never really gotthe opportunity to really showcase what his talents
were to the nation because nobody waspaying attention to the Bengals at that point
in time other than to make funof them. And it's it's cool to
(06:48):
see Corey kind of now bearing thehatchet and you know, putting putting some
of those putting, you know,a final layer of gauze on those wounds
from twenty years ago. And we'llhear from Corey in the next segment talking
(07:11):
to the Cincinnati media about some ofthat stuff. But a guy that you
know, you had to admire becausehe got the job done even even when
things were pretty bad. And thenTim Crumbrae, when you talk about you
know, when we talk about defensivelineman, we always hedge like, well
(07:31):
the numbers, the numbers would bebetter, but he's a defensive lineman.
Well, he didn't have as many, he didn't have a lot of tackles
because he played in the interior defensiveline. Yeah, Tim Crumbrae had two
seasons with over one hundred tackles, one of them one hundred and fifty two
tackles from the nose tackle position. In nineteen eighty eight, he finished seventh
(08:01):
an AP Defensive Player of the Yearvoting. In nineteen eighty eight, he
was an All Pro. He wentto the Pro Bowl. Everybody thinks when
they think Tim Crumrae, and weyou know, if you are of a
certain age, you saw that whathappened in the Super Bowl. The reason
that it gets talked about so muchis because the defense just wasn't the same
(08:24):
without him. What would that final, you know, quarter against San Francisco
have looked like if Tim Crumrae wasthere defensively getting after Joe Montana, wou
would it have played a you know, an impact in how that game was
ultimately decided. The world will neverknow. What the world should know more
(08:48):
about are the things that Tim Crumbraedid from a ten round pick. And
I said this to Tony a littlebit ago, I don't think there's any
chance Tim Crumrae gets drafted in modernfootball six two two seventy defensive tackle.
Those guys now are six' five, three hundred and eighty pounds nose tackles.
(09:15):
Tim krumra doesn't didn't didn't fit themold back then. He was a
ten round pick, doesn't have themeasurables. What the guy could do was
flat get after it at the pointof attack. And part of the reason
that the Bengals were so good throughthe through the eighties was absolutely a product
(09:39):
of Tim Crumrae being in the middleof that defense. And it's, you
know, it's the nature of thebeast that what everybody is going to remember,
what everybody is going to talk about, is him getting hurt. But
(10:03):
the reality is he was a great, great player, great player for the
Cincinnati Bengals, and ultimately super deserving. Both of these guys are I just
think I just think we should seelap I would guess it happens next year.
(10:24):
I don't do you think there's anybodynext year that you would have ahead
a lap Audie? Uh No,I mean Leap and Lamar Parish I thought
was probably gonna get in this year. I was a little bit surprised that
he didn't. I know, peoplelove James Brooks a lot, and now
that the running back kind of thepart has been gone in so yeah,
(10:45):
I don't think that I would pickanybody else above him going into next year
based on the guys that are stillon the ballot. Would you create a
like a separate entity for lap aslike contributor play like? Yeah, I
mean I think it's hard to dothat now after I think it's hard to
(11:09):
like change the rules or change theway of doing it after the last couple
of years. That should have beensomething that they did at the beginning.
Yeah, that's fair, But like, eventually Dan Horde is going to be
a Bengals Hall of Famer, right, I think the idea of like if
we had a talkbacker on our show, say that, you know, they
should put his name under the radiobooth, name the booth after him,
(11:31):
you know, do that sort ofthing, similar to what the Reds do
where they have those little microphone icons. I think that's a cool idea.
I think that's something that would work. But he also was a great player,
so I don't mind the way thatthey do this, and I think
he will get in and looking atthe what I think would be a really
cool group would be him and Trumpy. I think that would be a really
(11:54):
cool group next year, and Ithink there's a chance something like that would
happen. Yeah, and Trumpy obviouslya great player as well, and really
kind of helps start sports talk radioin the United States. Like he was
one of the pioneers and really oneof, if not the first, like
athlete to become like a main guy. A lot of times athletes have have
(12:18):
gone into that secondary role or sittingnext to a broadcast professional, such as
you know, the great Austin Elmorehas you know, carries Tony Pike every
day on since he three sixty. But Trumpy was his own, his own
entity. I didn't getting a reactionout of you on that Audie. I
thought you would at least, youknow, acknowledge that you carry Tony Pike
(12:41):
every day on from twelve to three. Yeah, you know. They just
sometimes you don't have to say anythingin times of your work speaks for itself.
I feel you, I feel you. But so we'll get to plenty
of that. We'll hear from CoreyDillon in the next segment. If you
want to talk the Bengals and theRing of Honor, I'm open this entire
(13:03):
first hour. We'll get a littlebit in the second hour when Kashmi Wright
joins us to talk about TBT,the basketball tournament that starts tomorrow at Fifth
Third Arena, and then Richard Skinnerwill join me in the five o'clock hour
to talk Bengals and Reds and everythingelse. So we're gonna talk about of
(13:28):
Hall of Fame in hour one. We'll get to some Reds and the resetting
of expectations in hour two, asthe Reds get ready to kick off the
post All Star Breaks segment of theirschedule. I can't call it the second
half. Just like twenty games ago, feels like feel it feels like we
talked about them hitting the halfway pointlike a month ago. I know it
(13:50):
wasn't quite that, but it's awhile back. They'll be at one hundred
games, like right out of theAll Star break, basically like what they're
at ninety ninety one right now,I think they're like ninety eight. Are
they at ninety eight? They're atninety seven? Okay, yeah, one
series and they'll be at one hundredgames. The All Star break is not
the midway point like people always claim, but resetting expectations and what needs to
(14:18):
happen between now and the end ofthe season. That's coming up an hour
two and then hour three. LikeI said, we'll talk to Skinny and
Paul Dayner had a really good articlebreaking down some of the pressing offseason topics
for the Bengals as camp gets readyto start. One of them was pretty
eye opening in terms of the schedule. I'm sure you saw this Austin,
(14:39):
where the Bengals not only had thehardest schedule in the NFL last year,
they had one of the hardest schedulesin like the last three decades, four
decades. The fact that they wentnine to eight, I think it's under
talked about, but I think there'ssomething in there that is even more telling
when it comes to predict their successin twenty twenty four, and also something
(15:05):
you have to consider when it comesto this team and setting and meeting expectations
for this coming season. So allthat and more, let's take a break.
We'll hear from Corey Dylan when wecome back. This is the Moegger
Show since Nati's ESPN fifteenth All right, let's get to it. Since Nati's
(15:33):
ESPN fifteen thirty, The Moeggar Show. I am Chad Brenda filling in today
and tomorrow. MO is on theradio tonight. He's down the dial on
seven hundred WLW. Tomorrow is anoff day for MO, so I get
back to back days here and thenI get the Cornet Golf outing live on
(15:56):
location Monday. Awesome. I jokedabout not bringing Tony on live from from
the golf event. He's gonna tryto dodge me, isn't he? Yeah?
He will. So do I doI make a big deal out of
it? Do I make it likean ongoing theme, like I'm gonna have
to come up with something because wecan't just ignore the fact that he's there.
(16:19):
Yeah? I mean, he's gotto come on. He doesn't want
to come on, so he willact like he doesn't want to. But
secretly, you know, he likesthose opportunities and events like that to be
able to peacock and that's what he'lltry to do. And he's gonna like
for the people there, he's gotto make it clear that, like this
is his show, right, itisn't. I'm not it's not my show.
(16:44):
I'm there because Tony is golfing.If he doesn't, I mentioned he's
playing softball tonight, he is.Yeah, what if he hurts something.
He's injury prone. That's why Itold him, I said, you don't
have good enough luck to be doingstuff like that, like he was playing
with scissors earlier. Yeah, Likemy uncle is kind of the same way,
right, Like my uncle loves tobe active. It's a really good
(17:04):
baseball player and swimmer growing up,but he was injury prone. And every
time he tries to get back outthere and do something. I think once
he like he ripped his squad. There is his tricep off the bone playing
softball. We have very similar uncles. Yeah, I might have an uncle
Ronnie who's the same way, likeevery time he tries to do something he
(17:26):
severely injures himself. Yeah, andTony's kind of the same way. Yeah,
Tony's similar to that obviously big wristinjury falling down the stairs a couple
of months ago. We know aboutthe elbow. Yeah, there's a lot
going on with I mean, BenMauk looks at his arm and it's just
like, Wow, get all thework that guy's had done pretty much.
(17:47):
So hopefully Tony makes it through tonightunscathed and then is ready to golf on
Monday. Maybe I'll get like,I'll point, like I've got to find
a time where there's somebody standing rightbehind him and I'll point, and then
Tony will be like me, andI'll be like, no, Charles Barkley,
he's behind you. What those typeof moments you got to look for.
(18:08):
Yeah, So Bengals Ring of Honor, Corey Dylon and Tim Crumrae inducted.
Corey had a chance to jump onthe horn with the members, with
some members of the local media.Austin is going to play that for you
right now. It's a great dayfor me and my family, all my
(18:29):
supporters, a very special day.I'm so grateful and thankful to be in
this position. I like to thankthe season ticket fan voters for making this
possible, and also I'd like tothank the Brown family for making this happen.
So it's gonna be a great, great day on the twenty third of
(18:52):
September, and I'm just happy tobe a part of it. What was
that feeling like when you got thecall and you got the news. I'm
sure it's it's been a little bit, you've had time to digestive, But
what was that moment like? Man? It was? It was? It
was? It was a good one, man, I was. It was
unexpected. I didn't expect it atall. I was actually scrambling looking looking
(19:17):
for my golf hat. I wasabout to hit the golf range and something
just told me. You know what, they check your phone before you you
go to the to the range andturn it off like I usually do,
and I see a call from fiveto one to three. So I know
a lot of people from the Natty, but this one, no name popped
up. So I was just like, let me listen to the message.
Man, I don't know who thisis. And it was Mike Brown,
(19:38):
and I was like, oh,let me let me call him back real
quick. So called him back andwe had a We had a beautiful conversation,
man, and it was long timecoming. I say that say that
much, Coy and your push totry to make the Pro Football Hall of
Fame? Do you think this issomething that can help you get there,
(20:00):
or at least give you a boosttowards getting there? I think so,
man. You know, as asplayers, we all we all talk about
it. Man. And I wastalking to Joey Porter a while back,
man, and he said something thatmade a lot of sense to me.
He was like, how might expectto get to to the to the Hall
of Fame if your own team don'thonor you? Right? So that kind
(20:22):
of struck home with me and itand it makes sense. So I think
this is a huge step in theright direction. And we'll see, man,
I hope so. I think it. I think it does. I
mean, Willie's having a lot ofsuccess in his in his run at the
Hall, So yeah, let's seewhat happens. Corey. Have you have
you sensed a shift in momentum sincethe Bengals brought in the Ring of Honor
(20:45):
that you're seeing more conversations about formerplayers. Now that this has been installed
over the last few years. Absolutely, I see it, man, and
our players is coming more relevant asthey should have been, you know,
a long time ago though, SoI think I think the world is ordered.
The media world is opening it upand taking more look at some of
(21:08):
the great players we had, asthey should. So I'm thankful to this
process even got started. I'm sothankful for it. Where you can you
hear me? Yes? Yeah? How validating does this feel? You played
in an era where you were oneof the lone bright spots on a team
(21:29):
that that struggled mightily. How validatingdoes it feel to finally be recognized in
this way for what you did onthe field? Oh? Man, it's
I can't describe it. Man.For the longest I've been, I've been
my thing is respected and what's theword I'm looking for? Appreciation? And
(21:52):
I feel that that's all I wasasking for and my day finally came.
So I'm gonna enjoy it. Man. It's and I'm just an ride this
process and take in every bit ofit. Hey, Corey, congratulations.
I'm curious what your relationship like Mikewith Mike has been like, how it's
evolved over the years, obviously theway things ended here, and you've expressed
(22:18):
a desire to let bygones be bygonesand try to come back in. Where
is that at now, and what'sit been like to watch that evolve over
over time since you left here?As of right now, Man, we
are on a clean slab. Man, it's we're good. I mean,
we're good. So I'm looking forwardto seeing them when I get back down
(22:41):
there, man, And we're gonnahave conversations in good ones. So I
don't think nobody's gonna be bringing upanything from the past. I think we're
all this gesture alone. Man,should let everybody know we're forward thinking and
we move past a lot of stuff. So we'll see and and I'm happy
to start something new. Or beforeyou got the call for Mike to let
(23:03):
you in the ring, when wasthe last time you had spoken to anybody
in the family since, you know, since you played here? Probably seven
or no, not o seven.Probably I think it was twenty seventeen when
I was back there for the fiftiethso I think that was the last time.
But you know what, I Italked to Gym Manison every every every
(23:26):
other day man. So I'm stillin contact with people down there. So
hey, man, it's it's gonnabe It's gonna be a good thing.
Man. I can't wait to getback down there. And we got to
celebrate like we should. Obviously Iwasn't here, you know, when you
played here. But you know, given how things ended, at what point
did you feel like this moment couldone day be possible that that reconciliation could
(23:49):
occur. At some point, whendid that kind of start to turn in
your mind that this could be apossibility and y'all could mend fences? At
some point it was always a possibility, man. At some point you got
to understand it's business, right,So and once you started understanding the business
aspect of it, man, thenyou didn you get it. I mean,
(24:11):
it was it's simple, man.I think time heals everything, you
know what I mean? So,and we had our due process of of
of healing in our different ways, and it's been long enough. I don't
think the antics outweighed the production onthe field, you know what I mean?
(24:32):
So I think what I what Ipresented to the organization outweighs the little
addicts that went on. So andwe got smart people. They understand that,
and we figured it out, andI'm just happy we were on the
same page of moving forward and andand join these young Bengals hunt down the
(24:52):
super Bowl. There you go,Corey Dillon, he I don't I don't
think he knows what cold slab means. I think you mean clean slate.
The last place you want to endup is on a cold slab, you
know. But semantics, let's takea break. Phone lines are open if
(25:18):
you want to talk about your yourfavorite memories of of Corey Dillon or Tim
Crumrae in their time with the Bengals, give us call five, one,
three, seven, four, nine, fifteen thirty. This is the Moegger
Show right here on Cincinnati Sports StationESPN fifteen thirty, Cincinnatis. Here we
(25:42):
go Sinninati's ESPN fifteen thirty chand BrundleAnd for Moegar, this sounds like a
video game soundtrack. A little bitaggen Bengals and the new additions to the
Ring of Honor. Let's go outto the phones, Chris and Alexandria.
(26:07):
Chris, how's it going with myfriend Chad? How the heck are you?
I couldn't possibly be any better.I'm here, I get to see
Austin Elmore's smiling face. It's justa wonderful day. I mean, that's
like a dream come true, rightthere, Austin. I found out yesterday
and I didn't realize yesterday. Iwas listening to the show and I found
out Austin was five eight but someonehad said he was five to two.
(26:30):
So I was actually happy for himrather than sad for him. He grew
six inches yesterday. Pretty important sixinches there, Chris. I know,
I was like, oh, goodfor you, Bud. Size matters end
me to call you buddy. Sorry, you know that term of enduing thank
you. Hey. I just wantedto say, like, I know we're
talking about Tim Krummer. Actually mytwo votes were Corey Going and Tim Krumer
(26:52):
because I'm I'm forty six years old, and boy, there was about six
years there. We were seated ticketholders. I'm gonna die Bengals fan,
and Corey Dillon was it. Hewas the only reason to even drive to
the stadium and I'll always remember that. But Tim Crumrae, I'm lucky enough
to have been at Joe Robbie Stadiumat the Super Bowl. I was ten
(27:12):
years old. My dad took meand I remember when he got hurt.
But if you remember when Paul BrownStadium opened in two thousand, they had
that this really neat pro shop. We'd never had anything like that before,
a little behind all the other allthese places, and they would do signings
and you could go, like,I can't remember it was Tuesday or Thursday,
(27:36):
and I got to meet superstars likeLorenzo O'Neill and Richmond Webb and like,
those are the guys they were runningout there. And I remember when
they signed Justin Smith. And Idon't know if you've heard this story.
It might be a legend, butI remember it at the time saying when
they brought him in for an interviewbefore they drafted him, Tim Crumbrae made
(27:56):
him wrestle him like he was thedefensive line coach. I don't know if
you remember that. He was adefensive line coach for the Bankles. And
the rumor has it that we signedJustin Smith because Tim Crumbrae made can you
imagine, like you're Justin Smith andTim Crumbrae, who has a like,
you know, he's kind of shortby defensive tackle standards, he's got a
(28:18):
cowboy hat on and cowboy boots andhe's like, wrestle me right now and
that and that's what Justin Smith apparentlywent through and that's why he ended up
getting signed. And I remember theday we got to go meet Justin Smith
when he was a rookie, andthat was like the biggest Bengal we were
able to meet. So I loveTim Crumbrae. You know, I think
he was the lynchpin of you know, an amazing team. I'm a strong
(28:38):
believer that he doesn't go down,we win the game. But you know,
people don't remember he actually was acoach too, and he was pretty
intense. Yeah, I think that'sactually kind of why he got out of
it right as it was. Itwas too much like so guys that are
natural, like like like a MichaelJordan right, like he can't coach what
he did grum raise. A guythat squeezed every ounce of not not that
(29:03):
he wasn't super talented, but hemaxed out every little piece of of potential
that he had. That's a guythat can translate to coaching. But those
guys generally don't have a the dialsbroken, like the dial turned up to
eleven and the knob cracked off.He wanted to be on the field.
(29:25):
The gen Z folks listening now arelike, what's a knob? Appreciate that's
great chat, Hey, thanks fortaking my call. Appreciated, Chris.
Thanks have a good day. Man. Well more, let's go to Greg
and Mount Airy. Greg, howare you great? Chat? I got
a great Tim Comrade story for you. Okay, rookie year, you got
(29:48):
to go back to eighty eighty three, the Bengals drafted number one, number
one. You were. He wasthe top center out of the trophy winner
and ning camp that year, youknow, was still about five weeks to
a day's practices, still was hidden, and you kept hearing the stories coming
(30:10):
out of training camp about this kidCrumrae, who was giving Dave Rimsons Allie
wanted. And by the time trainingcamp was over, you know, Crumbrae
had established himself and I heard himmentioned years later he knew if he would
shine against Dave Rimton, you know, people would notice him and he would
(30:32):
have a shot. And history provedhim correct and he went obviously they have
a great career. But you knowit was interesting. You know, I
was a big Bengal fan, alwayshave been. And every day I was
reading newspaper and other reports. Youknow, this kid Tim Kumraw was beating
Dave Rimton's but in training camp, you know. And of course the rest
(30:55):
of it, Greg that kind ofgoes back to what I was talking about
about about squeezing every ounce of potentialout of your your body, out of
your your opportunity. And that wasa Krumer thing, like, okay,
here I am, I've got it, just got drafted tenth round. The
odds I make the team are probablynot great. But if I'm gonna make
the team, I'm gonna get ashot at this number one draft pick every
(31:18):
day, and I'm gonna kick hisrear end. Yes, And that's exactly
what happened. That was his attitude, So so you gotta respect it.
And I just heard I didn't realizeone season he had one hundred and fifty
tackles. One hundred and fifty eighttackles in nineteen ninety eight or nineteen eighty
eight. Can you imagine that froma nose tackle? That's amazing, Like
to think about it now, wealways talk about like if a nose tackle
(31:41):
has like forty seven tackles. You'relike, man, that guy's really getting
it done on the interior. Onehundred and fifty eight tackles at nose tackle.
And like I said in the opening, he finished seventh in AP Defensive
Player of the Year that that seasonfor a nose tackle. That's incredible.
Had no problem with Dylan, Butmy first pick was James Brooks. You
(32:05):
know, he was a crum ridelike guy running back. Yeah, I
guess do you maybe take a littlebit away from Brooks because in his best
iteration he had Ikey next to him? Uh yeah, but what he did
he was great blocking, past, receiving, He did it all. Yeah,
you know, and he did itbefore Ikey got there. So don't
(32:27):
give it all the ickies, knowI'm saying. But in the like in
their best season, it was bothof them. Like in the Bengals best
season in the James brook era,it was him and and Ikey is what
I'm saying. Yeah, Rickley wasthere, but Brooke was the main guy.
Yeah, I know, I know. Anyway, I appreciate it,
(32:49):
man, I thought I got thanksappreciated Greg. I mean, that's an
interesting you know Brooks or or orCorey Dillon Brooks. You know, I
was still pretty young at that point. But like, James Brooks was awesome,
but I don't know that he carriedthe load like Dylan did. And
then and people are people are gonnahave their opinions on Corey Dillon, and
(33:12):
rightfully so, like he was divisive, he was polarizing and James Brooks wasn't.
So fans are going to have moreof a lean towards their experience watching
James Brooks because he was was alittle more likable. But man, as
bad as those teams were, andto still go and do what Corey Dillon
(33:34):
did and still put up, youknow, eight thousand yards and seven seasons
as a Cincinnati Bengal. That's that'spretty dang good. It's pretty dang good.
Second of the break, We'll beright back Sincinnati's ESPN fifteen thirty.
iHeart. Here we go. Ournumbers won coming to an end hour number
(34:00):
two. We have Cashmire, right, Do we still have Brendaman and Jones
on baseball today? As far asI know, yes, Okay, I
didn't know if they took the AllStar break off too. Guys never took
a day audi. We had acouple massive cultural events happened this week,
one President Trump lost less of hisyear than Evander Holyfield, and two College
(34:25):
Football twenty five being released. Howmuch of your time is the new game
consuming? It's thrown off my entireschedule. Patrick Mahomes said he's taking a
monitor in his system to training campfor the first time ever to get some
games. And if you look,it is taken over male pop culture.
(34:47):
Oh yeah, you know it's peoplehave been waiting on this for a decade,
literally ten years, and it's beenalmost three years, four years since
they announced he was coming back.So long they've been working on it.
I've been staying up way too late. I've been playing a ton of it,
and I'm absolutely obsessed with it.I love it. I was getting
(35:07):
ready. I played the final gameof my regular season in my first Dynasty
season, then the Big Twelve Championshipgame. I won the Big Twelve Championship
game. I made it into theCollege Football Playoff and my second round game
is with Georgia. Oh that's good. No, I'm gonna get good for
you. No, I'm gonna getmurdered. Do you have to go to
(35:28):
Athens? No, it's it's Ithink it was the Sugar Bowl. Oh
okay, yeah, it's a bowlgame. Remember second round is a is
a bowl game. Did you seeSauce Gardner say he was going to get
revenge on Alabama that did not beatYeah, that didn't go so well for
him. Do not play that.Do not start on All American. That's
the mistake. That's what I've I'vestarted on All American. I've stayed on
(35:49):
All American. I've taken my lumps, but I'm starting to get better.
I dropped down to varsity for alittle bit to kind of figure out the
playbook. That was fun. Yeah, to not get murdered. Number two.
We might talk more more EA Sportscollege football later. Since that E's
ESPN fifteen thirty. This report ison we Go our number two. Since
(36:30):
that he's ESPN fifteen thirty, TheMo Haggar Show. Chad Brenda filling in
today. Can find me on Twitterat Chad Brendle. You can find me
as always at Bearcatjournal dot com andfind me on YouTube, Twitch, TikTok,
Instagram. All of those are underBearcat Jurnal Rough one. Last night
(36:55):
for FC Cincinnati, they fall onenil to Chicago, lose a lose a
home game which is very rare forthe Orange and Blue. They are now
back to two games behind Miami forfirst in the Eastern Conference and Columbus creeping
(37:17):
up right behind the both of them, so gonna be a fun race down
the stretch. Audio. Are youconcerned with the injuries and the recent play
over the last two matches for FCCincinnati or do you think this is just
(37:37):
kind of a blip where they shouldbe able to fight back from it.
Yeah, it's kind of hard tosay. I think it's I think it's
something they should be a little bitconcerned about, especially with the issues that
they're facing defensively. Yeah, unlessthey're able to get a couple of guys
to figure that out, I wouldbe a little bit worried. It's tough
(37:58):
to play at that level for solong, like you are eventually going to
come back down to Earth. Howdo you you know, deal with it
once you do. Yeah, Andthe nice thing about the MLS, they
can go out. F C Cincinnatican go. I don't know that they're
going to find replacements as good asthe two guys that they lost on the
back line for the season, butthey at least are going to have an
(38:20):
opportunity to UH to explore ways toimprove the team UH down the stretch run.
But I mean last night, man, no Acosta, You're already depleted
on the back line, Robinson's outwith the with the yellow card suspension.
Just a tough break, especially comingoff of the loss UH to Charlotte,
(38:45):
which you know that that can maybebe a little expected, but their effort
against Charlotte took a significant dip fromInner Miami. I was I was busy
that the night of the Inner Miamimatch, and I had a friend that
was there and they texted me towardsthe end of the game and it was
(39:05):
six to one, and I waslike, what the heck happened? UH?
Like, you know, that waseven without Messy, that was supposed
to be pretty good. Uh.You know, to two pretty even teams
and Cincinnati smokes them, and youthink, okay, maybe these guys are
getting on a roll. And thenyou follow that directly h taking the lead
in the East to giving it backand now back down two points to enter
(39:30):
Miami with Columbus surging. So UHan interesting spot over what they have They
have won more against the Red Bullsand then the Legua's Cup break. Uh.
So you know, hopefully get alittle time to to recalibrate, but
you're still not gonna have You know, you're gonna be a little short sighted
(39:51):
or short handed because of the Olympics. Uh. And you're gonna be shorthanded
because of injury. Uh. Andyou just hope nobody ends up on a
cold slab. I don't know why, but that cracks me up. Cold
slab him and Mike Brown are ona cold slab. That's not a word
(40:12):
you want to say around Mike Brown, right, cold slab Man's got some
years, some miles on the tires. The Reds releasing their twenty twenty five
schedule, opening the season at homeagainst the Giants on March twenty seventh,
(40:38):
So that will be that will bea big one. The home games against
the Guardians the sixteen, seventeenth, and eighteenth of May for one half of
the Ohio Cup, and then theygo back to Cleveland the nineteenth and eleventh
(41:00):
of June. I'm glad we're backto six games on that. I didn't
like the four game Ohio Cup.I want six. Let's see the Yankees
in town June twenty three to twentyfour to twenty five, another long home
stand going into the All Star breakMiami and Colorado seven games, and then
(41:23):
out of the All Star break youget the Mets and the Nationals on the
road, and a big finish tothe season if this team is in the
race next year, because you gothree in Saint Louis, Chicago, four
at home, the Pirates three athome, and then Milwaukee to close out
the season, three on the road, So twelve games against the NL Central
(41:49):
to close out the regular season.Speaking of the Reds, here we sit
three games under five hundred. Theythere's no question they've been a disappointment when
(42:12):
compared to expectations. That that isI think something that that people feared when
they looked at the youth on thisteam and a what what's probably in retrospect
(42:34):
a thinner margin of air than weimagined. And then you you know,
you have Matt McLean is out andChristian and Carnacia and Strand is out,
and you're you're you're piling up kindof lingering or or spot injuries up and
(42:54):
down the roster. The pitching isn'tas deep in the starting rotation as it
was thought to be coming out ofspring training. And you have a team
that at times feels like they're notfar off from the team that we thought
(43:16):
they would be, and then youhave other times when it feels like,
my goodness, you know, thisteam can't get out of its own way,
whether it be sloppy base running, your defense, or or you know,
looking like they have a haphazard approachat the plate. You have guys
(43:39):
that flash last year that are eitheryou know, nowhere to be found or
really going through that sophomore slump thatyou hear about at the big league level.
It's an interesting position going into thesecond half of the season, simply
(44:04):
because I think the one thing isabundantly clear, with the injuries, with
the way things have have fallen, this is not a team that looks like
a group ready to make a legitimaterun at the World Series or a legitimate
(44:27):
run to to go deep into theNational League playoffs. However you want to,
you know, whatever, your ultimategoal for success this season was.
World Series was probably a little piein the sky, but a team that
could could advance a round or twoin the playoffs didn't seem far fetched with
this group, especially if I wouldhave told you the starting pitching has been
(44:52):
really good, and the bullpen hasbeen really good too, great, one
of the better bullpens in the NationalLeague. And the starting pitching has been
consistently solid. There hasn't really beena stretch, like an extended stretch,
where you look at the starting pitchingand go, man, a couple guys
have taken a backslide. Yeah, maybe you could say that about Graham Ashcraft,
(45:15):
and we're kind of waiting to findout what the extent of his injury
is. And that's a whole othertopic when it comes to potentially the trade
deadline, and we'll explore the tradedeadline and some of that more tomorrow here
on this program. But looking atresetting expectations for the remainder of this season,
(45:44):
can they still make the playoffs?Yeah, yeah, that's possible.
I think they'd have to get there'sso many teams bunched in that group.
I don't think they're going to allend up right in that eighty eighty one
eighty two wins range. You know. I think that the second and third
wild card are going to be morelike eighty five to eighty eight, eighty
(46:07):
nine wins somewhere in there, becausethere's I think there's too many teams that
are bunched up. Not everybody isgonna play poorly. Not everybody's gonna play
sub five hundred baseball the rest ofthe way. There are over these next
sixty five games or whatever it is, a couple of those teams are are
gonna play well and they're gonna endup six, seven, eight, nine
(46:30):
games over five hundred. Is thisReds team built to get there? I
don't think so right now. Ialso don't know that that's the indictment that
some want it to be, althoughit has to be a tad concerning that
(46:50):
they are eh a half a step, a step behind the jump that we
thought was possible for this group comingoff of the end of last season.
But ultimately they've got to figure outhow to build some momentum between now and
(47:12):
the end of the season, tobuild some positive vibes about more than just
the bullpen. And don't get mewrong, you know what I don't miss.
I do not miss this team goinginto the eighth or ninth inning and
not getting it done. You're goinginto the late innings with the lead and
(47:36):
not getting it done, or youknow, and they still do too much
of this relying on your final atbat. All right, we're down too.
We got to put a rally togetherto get back in this thing.
And most of the time they canget one across and they end with a
runner on second or a runner onthird, whatever the case may be.
But you look at that and yousay, how close is this team to
(48:00):
know? We saw it with Atlantaand they took that big jump three four
years ago, right, you know, when they brought Acunya and that whole
group up. It didn't take themlong. It did take a little bit
of adjustment period, but once theyadjusted those guys, those kids were ready
to go out and play at ahigh level and play for World Series.
(48:22):
Cleveland is a pretty good example ofa team that's done it with maybe lesser
talent than some of the other teamswe've seen make a run like this.
Do I think Cincinnati has that runin him in twenty twenty four, now,
I genuinely I really don't. Andif I think that, they don't,
because let's face it, we're ninegames left in the month three,
(48:50):
four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, eleven, twelve,
twelve games left in the month ofJuly, ten games left before we
hit the the trade deadline. Doyou know enough about this team to say
for sure buy or sell. Idon't think I do. I think I
(49:15):
still look at it and say, there's so much still unknown with this group
of rookies from last year now intheir second year, some injured, some
performing a little above par, someperforming a little to a lot below par.
But I don't think we know enoughto really feel strongly as in terms
(49:37):
of got to make the team betterfor twenty four down the stretch April or
excuse me, August and September, have to make this team better to be
able to try to make a runand win a World Series. I don't
think they've shown any consistently that anythingconsistently that makes you feel comfortable saying that.
(50:00):
I think what they've shown is theycan sweep the Dodgers, and they
can get swept by the Rockies, and ultimately, if that's your mo,
and it is that that roller coasterhas kind of been this team's MO all
season, it's hard to believe you'regonna go dip into your minor league system,
which is pretty depleted right now,and go get the type of arm
(50:23):
that you need to fix that issue. So now the front office is gonna
have a tough question, and we'lltalk about this more tomorrow. Do you
dip into the farm system and tryto improve the team for this year or
do you look at packaging maybe ayoung guy with a reliever, maybe a
(50:49):
young guy with the roster spot alittle bit more reserved for a little more
developed player in the twenty five man. Because I don't think being conventional is
what this team needs right now interms of we have a chance to make
the club better for twenty twenty four, but in reality, they're not going
(51:12):
to be able to go to gettwo or three major pieces. And if
you do do that, what doesit What does it mess up for the
future. So I think the playultimately is to keep your eye on the
prize, to stay kind of inyour lane and not make moves just to
(51:32):
make moves, to explore what's goingto be best for the organization not only
now, but two three years fromnow. Because the expectations where they were
at the beginning of the season, this team has not accomplished that. It's
(51:52):
not too late to salvage, butit's looking more and more unlikely that this
is going to be the end ofthe You know, but thirty four year
drought since nineteen ninety I'm getting old, Austin. Let's take a break.
(52:13):
Phone lines are open more after thissince Anty's ESPN fifteen thirty. There we
go, closing out the second segment. Here I went along a little long.
In the last segment, Mark inFlorence, real quick, Mark,
(52:36):
how we doing? I'm going allright? Check what can I do for
you? Okay? You was talkingabout the Reds going forward. You know,
at the beginning of the year,I didn't really think they had enough
to do much in the playoffs.I thought they were missing another guy that
can close games out, and Ithought they was missing a power here in
(52:59):
the outfield. That's what everybody healthy. So I would I would just like
to see him on the State ofcourse, and you know, keep bringing
the young guys up and giving themopportunities because I want to now for the
second half of the season, Iwant to see what Reeve Heines does to
the end of the year, ifthey choose to play him every day,
(53:20):
because I'm I'm sorry, I havea choice. Yeah, they by default
they had to bring him up andplay him every day. But he showed
I saw what he did you knowin the week I've seen I seen Eric
Davis do the same team way backwhen as a rookie, but he didn't.
He didn't do it. The firstweek they brought him up. I
(53:42):
seen him hit five home runs infour games when they went on a West
coast trip. We also saw aKeno do it, and now he's playing
in a Mexican league. Answering aphone upside down, Okay, well,
I think that. I think it'sa big difference between a Keno and his
hands. I think there's a bigdifference between Davis. Yeah. Well,
(54:06):
that's why I want to see.I want to see. I want to
see them play him every day untilthe end of the year to see what
he does, you know, tosee how he develops and how he does
at the end of the year.I'm more excited about that, I guess
as opposed to them. As opposedto them like depleting the farm system to
bring in a guy that, look, there's no point in bringing somebody and
(54:30):
that's going to help you for twentytwenty four and twenty twenty four only a
rental player is a waste of resources. Yeah, because what they shown me
is even if they got to theplayoffs this year. If they face it,
Yeah, if they face another team'snumber one or two pitcher, they
struggle to score a run. Soto me, let's let's just keep going
(54:52):
like we've being, you know, bringing up the young guys, developing the
young guys, and then let's seewhat happens next year of the year after.
But I don't want to see themdeplete the farm system. I agree
to bring in somebody else, SoI'll get off in there and listen to
the rest of the show. Iappreciate you, Mark, No, I'm
on the same boat. What Ithink they need to do is start figuring
out, Okay, we're gonna becompetitive as competitive as we can through the
(55:15):
end of twenty twenty four, butthis is probably not the year. So
let's be wise and if we canmake ourselves better for this year while also
keeping an eye on what improving forthe long haul twenty five twenty six,
I think that's probably the correct path. Like I said, we'll talk about
(55:37):
that a little bit more tomorrow, getting into the trade deadline in this ten
game lead up coming out of theAll Star break, But just take a
break, Cash me are right,my guy, Cash former Bearcat Journal employee
joins me next to get ready forTBT tomorrow night at Fifth Third Arena.
(55:59):
This is Cincinnati, ESPN fifteen thirtyCincinnati scroll him right along the Mowegers show
right here on Cincinnati's ESPN fifteen thirty. I am I'm still not Moegar.
I did not pull a sword outof a stone last night and almost decapitate
(56:20):
a cameraman. That was dangerous. What Moe was doing with that sword dangerous.
Let's keep it moving tomorrow night,Fifth Third Arena, six o'clock team
Zip them up in action for Xaviereight o'clock. Nasty Natty back in action
(56:42):
after a successful run last year, not quite all the way to the championship,
but got a couple wins under theirbelt, got a little experience in
the TBT, and they will lookto improve on that this season with a
couple home games. We welcome inthe head coach for the Nameasty Natty Team,
my guy, Kashmir right Cash, what's up, brother? Why are
(57:05):
you doing sir? I'm doing good. I'm doing good. I'm doing good.
How was how was pick up?Picked up the little one from school?
Everything smooth, Everything was great andby the way. I love the
intro. Like I said, everytime, I'm come on to show you
the I mean, you know,we were talking a lot yesterday we were
we were at a little media eventfor for Nasty Natty. There's a lot
(57:28):
of there's a lot of guys onthis team that that just missed the Kashmir
Right era, and I don't thinkthey understand how good of a player Kashmir
Right was. You had to showMama Dudiyara in a shooting competition yesterday that
look, you know, I mightbe a little bit older, but I
can still put it on you exactly. That's my point. I'm like,
(57:50):
these young guys don't know. Ihad him trying to tell me earlier.
He's like, you probably never dunkin your life. I was like,
man, imagine that. I Unfortunately, I am one of the few people
that got to see pre knee injuryCashmere Right playing aau for Hoop Dreams out
of Atlanta and uh, just adifferent player than what we saw at Cincinnati.
(58:19):
How much did your game have tochange because of the knee injury.
Well, like I said, Ithink the main part was people look at
me now as a shooter, andthat is by far the opposite, the
total opposite of what I came hereas you couldn't shoot it all back then,
exactly all I wanted to do wasdup and I was like, I
was just really fast, I coulddribble and I wanted to I was like
(58:42):
athletics. I was like, nowyou see me more of a shooter.
So that's kind of like what Ihad to become to stay on the floor.
And actually what my game transitioned toafter all the injuries. Was it
hard to have that conversation with yourselflike, look, I don't think I
can be the guy that I was. I still want to be really good.
I still want to win a bunchof games. So I'm gonna have
to figure out something different. Andhow many hours in the gym did it
(59:06):
take you to go from you know, athletics slasher to kind of a floor
general and shooter. I think thetransition was it was he and Corney had
a great conversation and he basically toldme what the team needed, and he
was like, if you can fitthat road, then you could you know,
then you can do it. Ifnot, you know, it's like
my freshman year when I didn't playa lot, I was behind Parker most
(59:29):
was only even realized that I started, and then I didn't start. Yeah,
so you know, it was atransition from what Crona actually wanted from
me and what I wanted at thebeginning, and transition into what my game
actually became that benefited and became moreof a leader and realized that at six
foot probably not gonna be the bestscorer on the team. And we got
(59:50):
another two thousand point score, SoDeyontay was what four now, Yeah,
Deontay was just under two thousand andthen sk top yep. So I'm saying
I played with two players that endedin the top five all the time score.
So when you look now and yousee this first year in the Big
(01:00:13):
twelve, does it make you rememberand miss how awesome it was going through
a Big East schedule every year.Yeah, I'm excited. I'm excited for
them. I'm excited for the fans, especially for us, because, like
I said, going like you said, going back to that that used to
be fun. Now going you know, you're playing a game. You got
(01:00:34):
number ten, number eight, thenyou might have number one, all in
back to back games, and Ithink now here in this Big twelve.
I think we get the same kindof thing, and I love to see
it. I love the competition, especially everybody want to come to a game.
Now, who doesn't want to comesee Chansas? You know, no
shot at toss or anything like that. But nobody wanted to come see Tulsa.
No, you can take a shotat Tulsa. That's fine. Yeah,
(01:00:59):
you usually we take shots at ECU. Nobody, Well, perfect me
that font I mean nobody wants togo to e c U. So I
mean nobody wants to come see that. I mean it's perfect when you get
the chance to see league. That'sgot to be the ultimate trump card over
all those guys that are that areon the tv T team that you're coaching,
Like, look y'all playing the AmericanI'm played in the Big East,
(01:01:22):
the Big East. Calmed down, calmed down. That is definitely true.
None of them did get that experience. But you know what, though hindsight,
though, I wish, like Itold s K, I wish that
I could have got a year inAmerica, one year, just like him,
like, man, just give mea year and that thing you dion
(01:01:44):
s K. Park Man, itwould have been a different Yancy they would,
they wouldn't have had any answer forYancy in the in the in the
American Athletic Conference. That's for sure. I've done him. I don't think
pretty a lot of people had Nancyand the Big East sometimes, ain't that
(01:02:04):
the Truth's let's let's talk about thethe TBT a little bit. Last year,
you guys got to win a coupleof games, get that that monkey
off your back and that that feelingof you know, Okay, this is
what it's gonna take to to advancein this tournament. How much did that
help you maybe going into this yearthat like, okay, we we we
(01:02:24):
have the right pieces. We werelike we kind of we figured out a
little bit. Now we can,you know, maybe look to to take
that extra step. I think itworks both ways a little bit. I
think last year showed us the blueprintof how you need to play. Uh.
This SHO is a little different inthe aspects of the last year.
(01:02:45):
With a four seed, issue wouldhave won. So you pretty much everybody's
gonna give you their best shot.Where everybody uh everybody's championship game, especially
playing at U S. So thedynamics of it has changed in that aspect.
But it's a great thing because wepretty much got some of the same
guys, so this's pretty familiar witheach other. It's not real hard when
(01:03:08):
you're coaching to just ride Jake andJaron right, Like, Okay, those
guys are scoring fifty a night,Let's give him the ball, let's go
exactly. That's that's how people Sometimesit's just we're coaching in these things,
just staying out the way, likemaking sure that everybody understands or just talking
(01:03:28):
to the team and getting that everybodyunderstands their role. Man, like,
listen, we know what these twoguys are about. You know when he
catches the ball, Yeah, youknow what's gonna happen. So we don't
need you to get upset when theshot goes up. You need to be
prepared because that's the expectation. It'sjust more so like just the people management.
I feel like it's head coaching inthis thing. You might have the
(01:03:52):
best trio of centers in the inthe whole tournament, Octavius Ellis, Coreonte
de Berry and Nisier Brooks. Uh. That's for a coach. That's gotta
be be nice to know, like, no matter what, we're gonna have
the size and the and the physicalability to compete exactly. That's a great
so one. And like me andKevin Kevin Johnson laughing about it yesterday,
(01:04:15):
it was like the end of theday, at the end of the day,
we just throw that ball up there. Let them let him, let
him phit each other, let himhit people and see where it goes.
I don't want to run into coreoteto Barry at all. But you know,
people see Corey has like, youknow, big, but Corey has
good hands. You know, ifhe can get into I can see him
(01:04:38):
being one of the best big likeby far. That right hook and he
has it is probably one of thebest moves in this tournament in my opinion.
It's a little different than Nancy's righthook. Of course, Wait a
second, I snuck that in onyou. I snuck that in on Come
(01:05:00):
on now, They're just two differentright hooks. It's just a different it's
a different thing. I think bothof them are scary. Both of them
are very scary. Both of themare very scary. I guess that would
be the best way to put it. Sometimes that sometimes one of them might
zip you up. Some would say, wow, you gotta love it.
(01:05:26):
So I want to know what you'retalking about. Oh they know, trust
me, they know, they know. Yeah, your son knows. What
what does it mean getting to playat Fifth Third this year? I mean,
I know last year there was alot of fun, you know,
getting to play at that that placeacross town and and and get a win
there, especially over them. Uh, but what what's it mean to get
(01:05:49):
back in you know, you're you'renot you're an old Fifth Third Arena guy.
Yeah, so this is my firsttime actually being on the floor at
the at the new shift, youknow, but uh, for for real,
for real, it feels great tobe honest with you. I guess
for me it's a different aspects ofactually coaching and not playing. It's fun.
(01:06:10):

(01:09:55):
dollars to the winner, nothing toeverybody else. So that's that's a tough
one. When you start to getdeep like that, that's the pressure kind
of ramps up as you start toget deeper and deeper into that thing and
you start thinking and we're two orthree wins from from a million bucks.
Uh, the temperature and the stressturns up. It's not just uh,
(01:10:18):
it's not just going out and uhplaying some basketball with your boys. Did
you hear something. I heard it. I heard it in my headphones.
Yeah, I don't know what thatwas. I did too. That was
really weird. Yeah, like I'mlooking around, it's something happening outside these
doors right now. Sometimes I swearI think I'm crazy, But sometimes like
(01:10:44):
the feeds will mix in our earsand I'll hear Like there's been times in
the past where when me and Tonyhave been on I've been able to very
faintly hear Willy in my ear.It sounds like somebody banging on a wall,
though horrifying. Yeah, Willy Willybleeding in your ears is a that's
a tough day. Yeah, it'snot something you ever really want to experience,
Like that's something you wake up inthe middle of the night, like,
(01:11:06):
ah, what happened. But yeah, I'm excited for those guys.
It's gonna be fun. It wasa fun event last year. I really
enjoyed it, and I'm looking forwardto getting down there and catching another year.

(01:12:58):
thanks to our wonderful friends Bert andLaura Hensley, down in Nashville,
Tennessee, we went to the GrandOle Opry Saturday Night show that airs on
WSM Radio, which is one ofthe great country music stations, fifty thousand
white station in Nashville. It's thelongest running radio show in the history of
(01:13:20):
radio at first broadcast and has notmissed a Saturday night since nineteen twenty five.
This is a cool topic. Thisshow was off the charts. Did
you know it was going to bethat strong? I had no idea.
I'm not. My interest in countrymusic has been very minimal. That night
caused it down to jump My interestby leaps and bounds because I was so
(01:13:43):
impressed with the show that I sawin Nashville. Will give me a visual
there, I mean, is ita bunch of people wearing overalls. I
mean, is it kind of likeKeihan steroids? Yeah, as a matter
of fact, a large degree,it is. It is. But the
talent was incredible. The youngest guyon the show was the head lighter,
and he's an up and comer inthe industry named Chris Jansen, who I
(01:14:05):
think recently appeared in Cincinnati. Heput on a great final act before they
shut it down. It was theshow that lasted just a bit over two
hours. I have to ask thisquestion, Yeah, where did you Where
was your seat? That's what Ithought, Go ahead, it was on
the front row, I figured. And what else? Did you have backstage
(01:14:28):
passes? Yeah? What else? That's all? What diffes that make?
Well? You just think you're betterthan everyone. I do not. Yeah,
you walk in the back. Didyou get to meet and he wanted
to meet Grandpa Jones? No relative, no relation to me. He's dead,
he want he died that We'll beback in a moment. Hey,

(01:14:49):
with us, Nor is Roy Acuff, nor is Hank Senior, not nor
is any of those people. Theseare all basically young people, and the
show was great, and all ofa sudden, now I've started to take
a greater interest in country music becauseof the incredible on stage talent that these
people possess. I hear it's agreat, great production. Well right,
(01:15:11):
yeah, the production is incredible. The Grand Old Opry, the venue itself,
and it only seeks about I thinkfour thousand people and it was pretty
much full the night we saw theshow, And I would go back again
and see another show because I cameaway with such a incredibly positive attitude about
their industry and how well they doit. What did the spokesperson for Laura's

been a big country music Yeah, yeah, I've always wanted to go You

had a chance and screwed it upand didn't get a chance to go back.
I am going to go back oneof these times. Well, if

in the past has hosted that showfrom Coldstream, But Tony's gonna play this
year be part of Foursome be outon the course, mixing it up,
potentially risking further harm to his fragilebody after playing softball tonight. So we'll
(01:19:10):
see that. Just two events likethat in four days, Austin, that
is it's just dangerous. I justI'm concerned about your partner. Hopefully he'll
be okay. I have cee.Cincinnati falls last night one nil to Chicago,
(01:19:30):
two in a row for the Redand Black. They take on the
Red Bulls on Saturday, trying tosnap a two game losing skid, which
is has not been customary for theOrange and Blue over the past two seasons.
But they're gonna have to do itwithout Pat Noonan, who was who
(01:19:51):
got a red card. Very unhappywith the officiating yesterday. Seems to be
a common theme in mla I officiatingin professional sports. It just has to
be better. It has to bebetter. We see it across the board,
and I know part of the youknow, the the rub is they're
(01:20:14):
watching everything and trying to navigate thingsin real time while we have the ability
of replay and you know, slowmotion and all of those things. But
love man, those guys make alot of money to do those jobs.
A lot of money, many ofthem working you know, six months five
(01:20:35):
six months out of the year makingmid six figures to do. So I
don't think I can if I ifI sat here and you know, we
look at we see the baseball scorecardsafter every game. Austin, would you
what would your what would your longevitybe in this business? If your success
(01:21:00):
rate as a producer was was itlike eighty eight percent? Like twelve percent
of the time you just you justbricked it was just wrong. Well,
based on some of my co workers, I'd say I'd have a pretty long
career. There's some people I workwith that have a much lower batting average
in that they've been here for awhile. They're in the baseball range.
(01:21:21):
Right as long as they hit threehundred, they're in the Hall of Faretty.
Much. Yeah, you know,I've seen people survive some things that
shouldn't be survivable. If you're awarm body, you can work as a
producer. Basically is how they seeit. But to answer your question,
I mean, yeah, obviously itwas you got to be better. Yes,
I mean the one, the onethat should have been a red card
yesterday was it was blatant, justan obvious slide tackle at the feet of
(01:21:46):
a guy that was going into spacewith a with a scoring opportunity at hand.
Guy takes him out. That shouldhave been a red card and it
you know, it played a significantimpact in the game. They are in
baseball. We are starting to hear. By twenty twenty six, I think
they said we could have the automaticstrike zone, which I'm all for.
(01:22:15):
Take the let's take the guesswork outof it. Let's take at least in
that aspect. If the pitcher throwsa strike, it should be a strike.
If the batter takes a ball. But more importantly, this is what
I always like. You know,it takes. It takes a long time
in baseball, and going off ona tangent here, but you know it's
(01:22:39):
a Thursday at five o'clock in July, late July and mid July. Sometimes
in these shows we're going to gooff on tangents. If a batter trains
their eye well enough to not swingat ball four on a full count with
runners in scoring position, he shouldbe awarded his base, not penalized by
(01:23:01):
being sent back to the dugout becausethe umpire called something that was a ball
by six inches out of the strikezone calls it a strike. That's been
my ultimate disappointment with replay. Fartoo often replay that they'll go look at
the replay and still get it wrongeven when they have video evidence. So
(01:23:28):
yeah, obviously that that is asignificant development for FC Cincinnati that is trying
to snap a two game losing skid. Let's get into the Bengals a little
bit as we roll through through ournumber three. Obviously, the big news
of the day Corey Dillon Tim Crumraeannounced as the next two entrants into the
(01:23:56):
Bengals Ring of Honor they will beThey will be ceremonialized at a game in
September for Bengals fans to celebrate theircareers. But we are I think now
we are less than two weeks fromthe open of training camp. We are
(01:24:21):
almost at go time for football season, and as is typically the case,
as we get closer and closer, the scribes, the people covering the team
start getting us ready for what iscoming. And yesterday an interesting article from
(01:24:44):
Paul Danner Junior that was titled Pinpointingthree overlooked trends that will shape twenty twenty
four, and number one is don'tforget how tough the schedule was last year,
and he says this is coming fromRobert Weintraub, who does the almanac.
(01:25:09):
He put out a statistic that putsthings that puts last year in perspective
their Crown Jewel defense adjusted value overaverage, which is basically their strength of
schedule metric. The Bengals had theeighth toughest schedule in the NFL since nineteen
seventy nine and the toughest any teamhas endured since twenty fifteen. He says
(01:25:34):
with the combination of the AFC Northplaying to historic levels and a first pace
schedule beyond that including San Francisco,Buffalo and Kansas City, that not enough
was made about the immense challenges ofthe twelve toughest schedules faced by any team
since nineteen seventy nine. Nobody wonmore games than the Bengals, more than
half lost double digit games. Consideringall that went with the quarterback and the
(01:25:58):
level of opponents, those wins looka bit shinier. But here's where it
really gets interesting. The bengals opponentsoffensive rankings last year compared to this year.
Last year, their twenty twenty threeaverage in pass efficiency for their opponents
was twelve twenty twenty four forecast thirtysecond explosive pass percentage, which was what
(01:26:23):
burned the Bengals time and time andtime again. It felt like a season
ago their opponents were fourth and explosivepass percentage. And that's what's going to
happen when you play a bunch ofthe best teams in the NFL, and
not only a bunch of the bestteams, most of the great quarterbacks Pat
(01:26:44):
Mahomes, Josh Allen, Brock Purty, c J. Stroud, Lamar Jackson,
a significant portion of the schedule wasplayed against the best of the best
in the NFL. That's going tolead to explosive pass plays. Fourth was
the average in twenty twenty three, thirty first out of thirty two the twenty
twenty four forecast, and I feelmore comfortable with that. I don't like
(01:27:11):
looking at like a previous season opponentwin percentage. For the most part,
we have seen how much volatility isin that in the NFL from season to
season. Where we don't see alot of volatility, there is when you're
playing Mahomes and Allen and Lamar Jackson. Although I mean you could say,
(01:27:35):
you know the Lamar Jackson comparison isvery interesting because at this point last year,
everybody was writing off Lamar Jackson becauseof perceived injury history, and then
he stayed healthy for a year andwon MVP. Kind of ironic how similar
(01:27:56):
that narrative is to Joe Burrow nowthat b had a kind of a fluke
season ending injury a season ago,and everybody now gives the caveat with Joe
Burrow, Well what about the injuries? Well what about the seasons that he's
played without injuries? So when lookingat the Bengals schedule, they have a
(01:28:23):
significant opportunity to outperform the nine winsfrom a year ago, and the biggest
part of that, for me,you would hope that as we go through
the Joe Burrow era, there arevery few seasons that the Bengals end up
(01:28:45):
with the fourth place schedule. Oneof the impressive things about what Tom Brady
did for so long, what PatMahomes is doing right now. They are
doing it pretty much every year againsta first place schedule, which is typically
quite a bit harder than when youhave a fourth place schedule. The Bengals
(01:29:10):
have to take advantage of a fourthplace schedule They cannot come into next season
and drop two games early, especiallywhen you look at as projected right now
the first four games as things currentlystand, New England nine point favorite at
(01:29:34):
Kansas City, four point underdog,Washington at home, seven point favorite at
Carolina six and a half point favorite. You have the opportunity right in front
of you, even with Kansas Cityon the schedule, You have the opportunity
right in front of you to jumpout to a quick start. You don't
(01:29:58):
have any division games in there. There's nothing really tricky. It's pretty straightforward.
I don't think anybody thinks New England, Washington, and Carolina are going
to be teams that are competing forconference championships and Super Bowls in twenty twenty
four. That is the expectation forthe Bengals. So while the injuries to
(01:30:24):
Burrow and the inconsistency and at timespoor performance no other way to put it,
by the defense, that team stillmanaged to get to nine wins against
one of the hardest schedules in thepast three decades. That is not going
(01:30:45):
to be the case in twenty twentyfour. They are not going to play
a litany of all pro quarterbacks litteredup and down the schedule, and as
such they need to take advantage andwin a bunch of games, playing and
simple, the opportunity is going tobe there. This is your last year
(01:31:10):
with T Higgins. That is clear. Your offensive line that you have pieced
together through free agency over the pastthree seasons. Those guys are, you
know, starting to see their contractscome up, starting to see age become
a factor. The window is wideopen for the Bengals. The Chiefs might
(01:31:39):
be standing outside that window, butthe window is still wide open for the
Bengals. The schedule allows them tobe in a position to play home games
in January. Seeing what they didlast year against a brutal schedule, you
should be able to look at that, see it ease up, and think
(01:32:02):
this team has a chance to getback on track. Richard Skinner coming up
next, Cincinnati's ESPN fifteen thirty six. Here we go one of my favorites,
(01:32:28):
Austin Let's welcome in digital content editorand all around great guy from Local
twelve. My good friend, RichardSkinner, skinny, all around great guy.
How many times have you been introducedin that fashion? Not one single
time in my life, not evenin a bank. What I might have
spoken at not even in any ceremonialthing I was a part of, not
(01:32:51):
once, but I do appreciate it. I mean, you know, you
gotta jazz it up. I've introducedyou a million times. I figured i'd
mix it up a little bit today. Just there comes enough. Luckily,
whatever you said, you broke upright when you said it. No,
I said, just there is justanother angry old man. That's perfect U.
(01:33:15):
A former angry guy, a pastand present angry guy. Richard Skinner,
Corey Dylan, Tim Krumere. Uhdid you get the cover Crumbraett at
all? Or was that after yougot started? No, a little bit
at the end of the kind oftail end of his career. And uh,
(01:33:36):
he Kim. I always liked him. I really thought he had a
great career. But can I geton a soapbox for about thirty seconds here?
Yes, of course, that's whywe have you on. Bengals fans
and season ticket holder are voting. Will you please wake up, wake up
and vote for Lamar Parrish. Atsome point it is ludicris that we have
(01:34:00):
another year that's gone by and thisdude is not in the Ring of Honor.
He was in All Decade Cornerback Alldecade in a quarter in the ear
of the seventies, when the skillsare damn good, the Raiders are damn
good. There are on really goodcornerbacks in the lake. He was one
of the two first team All Decadecornerbacks for Pro Football Reference. Listen,
everybody has their own thing, butthey had that as a rating service.
(01:34:23):
He has scored the He scored thefifth most non touchdowns in NFL history.
He should be in the Hall ofFame. And listen, I love Ken
Riley. They were a great andI know everybody looks at interception numbers.
The incersion numbers don't tell the wholestory of what a cornerback does. Lamar
Paris shouldn't have the interception numbers becausepeople didn't tell it him quite as much
(01:34:43):
as they threw at Ken Riley. But Ken Riley did his job too.
Lamar Paris should be in the NFLHall of Fame, and yet he's not
even in the Bengals Ring of Honia. Give me a break. Where do
you have lap in this argument? That's a great question. The podcast that
I did today with my r buddyRick Boring, we talked about that a
(01:35:04):
little bit because I really thought ifit wasn't. We both kind of disagreed
on the running back, but notby much as split in hairs. I
think James Brooks is the greatest allaround Bengals running back ever, Corey Yellen's
the greatest all around one or ever. Big difference, as you know.
And we split hairs on that acouple about a month or so ago on
the topic. And again I wouldn'thave if you'd have told me, hey,
(01:35:25):
flip a coin and one of thetwo goes in, I'd have gone,
great, whatever that comes up to, because I think James Brooks is
one that gets in next year.So I'm fine with it. And I'm
happy happy for Corey because I thinkit does help his Hall of Fame case
too. But and this is anothing in sim crumroide whatever. He deserves
to be in the Ring of honterat some point too, but not ahead
of Mark Parris. I mean,so the day lap the thing came up
and I said, listen, thepart of this is and Rick made a
(01:35:47):
really good point of are people conflicted? Are you putting him in as like,
well, all the things he's donewith the Bengals, including playing and
broadcasting are people trying to discern andgo Now, as a player, he
was a good player. He wasn'ta Ring of Honored player. He really
was, I mean, a reallygood player. But if you fatality it
the whole thing with him as abroadcast, then yes he should be in
(01:36:09):
point me just says the Bengals shouldjust say listen, we're putting it in
right. And and that's the partto me that I'm a little surprised they
haven't done or didn't do, becauseI honestly thought that this might be the
year he does go in because they'vekind of limited the pool of candidates here
of late, they've kind of shrunkat a trying to get some of those
older guys like Lamar Parish in,And I thought this was probably the time.
(01:36:33):
If it wasn't Lamar, it wasgoing to be Latin this year.
It really not. It wouldn't ina couple of years. But it put
me out of left field this year. Would would you would you maybe change
it to giving the fans one andgiving the organization one? Uh? Yeah,
(01:36:53):
yes I would. And the thingthat I did, I'm gonna get
in trouble for this. The transparencyof this isn't there all the way.
And let me tell you, therewas a acrimonious relationship between Lamar Parish and
the Brown family at again brought onsomewhat by Lamar Parrish, and he got
(01:37:14):
traded to Washington. And there's apart of me that feels like he's been
blackballed in this process. I knowhim ninety nine point nine percent wrong,
but it feels like that's what's takingplace his performance on the field. He
should have been in one of thefirst two classes and here we are with
another class passing and he doesn't makeit again. So yeah, to your
(01:37:34):
point, I wouldn't mind seeing thatchat. I wouldn't. I think that
gives the fans a voice they shouldhave, But I also think it gives
you the chance to go, hey, listen, there's a guy we think
he needs to go in and Ithink they should have that voice as well
as a team, right. Imean, they are the franchise, like
the Brown family has been doing thislonger than anybody here in Cincinnati, so
(01:37:56):
they should know. I would becomfortable. Or if you insist on giving
the fans to give the Bengals oneand put in three, like you know,
you're you're catching up for for yearsof lost time. You are making
up. So I wouldn't be opposedto either of those those opportunities. Do
you have a a great you havea lot of great Bengals stories. Do
(01:38:17):
you have a great Corey Dylan story? I go and so one that we
all know though, of the lastgame he played. Yeah, he's off
the field and peeling off everything that'sthat's part of his jersey and part of
what he's wearing that day and justtossing it one but one into the stands.
It is literally, in my opinion, the greatest bad exit, if
(01:38:38):
you will, of a player inhistory. It's Antonio Bronlin from a few
years ago. Was terrible, right, I mean as embarrassing what he did,
and did it in the middle ofthe game cooy, though, is
the last game that he was evergoing to play with the Bengals, in
the last game of a season,he decides to go out that way,
and I can't help but laugh atit. You know, in retrospective the
(01:38:58):
time, you're you're like, man, that's a that's kooky to do,
that's not right. But in retrospecthe look back and you go, that
was a pretty funny exit, tobe honest, Yeah, he I mean,
I can't imagine being a competitor atthe level of a Corey Dyllan and
losing as much as he had toendure, losing to be a to be
a great player, like a guythat has a legitimate case for the Hall
(01:39:20):
of Fame, and to just bestuck on a team that was trash for
seven years. I can't imagine thelevel of frustration that was built up with
that dude and almost setting him upfor failure. Where like, the quarterback
play was so bad in that Europethat everybody stacked the box and he still
(01:39:40):
put up the numbers he put up. That's the most amazing thing to me.
That shows you how great of awonder that he was that he still
did those kind of things. Andto your point, uh, you know,
you know he can play. Lastyear when he didn't get in,
I didn't think he deserved to getin last year again, I was splitting
hairs with James Brooks. This yearwouldn't have bothered me. But I'll always
believe that he is a Hall ofFamer already. I think he was right
(01:40:03):
about Hey, you know, Ishould have some level of interest for the
Hall of Fame. I thought hehad a better case of the Hall of
Fame at the time. He complainedthat he did for the Bengals Ring of
Honor just because of after here goingto New England, winning a rushing title,
winning the Super Bowl and he kindof put the final bow on it
with another organization. But yeah,to your point, I mean that dude
(01:40:24):
put up some ridiculous numbers on somereally really epically bad Bengals teams. Camp
about two weeks away? Is itstarting to like? Is that six days
away? Six days away? It'sthis six days from a week from yesterday
is Rookies report and then the realstarted camp out. Really, it's the
(01:40:45):
main starts the first camp practice.Man, we got Bengals media launch money.
We're right into this thing. Ithink somebody maybe maybe I mixed it
up with the Bearcats. The Bearcatsis two weeks away, the Bengals is
a week away. Is your isyour brain all of a sudden real like,
it's what happens for me? Rightas soon as we get done with
like the fourth of July and theAll Star break, it's like, oh
crap, I'm busy until April.Oh no, I literally it's funny.
(01:41:10):
I'm like, okay, so startingon next Wednesday, I'm gonna have maybe
a day off between now and maybeTebruary, and if Bengals SAMs are lucky,
maybe late February, then they goto the super Bowl. But it
is what you sign up for.I will say I like the season.
I like the tempo of the season. I do like the fact that the
factor in some primetime games gives yousome Sundays off to kind of watch,
(01:41:30):
you know, just watch Sunday ticketand watch other games, and then that's
kind of enjoyable too. But Iguess I do like the rhythm of the
season. I gotta tell you,Chad, I don't know about you.
With cover covering college football, Ijust training camp is just it's a long
four It just is. Yeah.We try to come up with story lines,
and there's obviously a key one withJoe Burrow's wrists, right, I
(01:41:51):
mean, so that's a big partof it, and probably how the right
tackle situation sorts itself out, andis Dak's still ready to play outside corner.
There's there's enough story lines to getyou through, but we've written so
many audentate looks great in camp, and then you know, we had a
kid, I can't dat a kid'sfirst name, the Willis kid, who
was a wide receiver a few demonor something along those lines. From Jack
(01:42:14):
Taylor's first year. He was greatin camp, and to his credit,
he earned a starting birth in Gameone, and within three games he was
out of the starting lineup. Withina two months he was off the Bengals,
and within a year he's out ofthe league. So I mean,
we try to manufacture that stuff. There are enough interesting storyline I think in
this camp to get us through, and really is only two weeks from the
start of camp basically two weeks ina day before you get a day off,
(01:42:39):
and then there's the first preseason game. I mean, okay, we're
three weeks from this Saturday for thefirst preseason game for goodness sake, So
camp will go quick at that point. But man, the first few days
of camp, you know you're outthere in ninety five degree weather and fans
are there too, which you knowthat they love that part. But to
me, sometimes camp just gets tedious. To get needed the regular season arts
(01:43:00):
and you don't have to drive fiftyminutes into the middle of nowhere every day
at home. That is correct. That is correct as well. Now I
will say, you see, doesdo early morning practicing? Yes, right,
yes, okay, I could tellher. I mean at two of
fifteen to four o'clock. I getlike, yeah, it's rough. Oh
boy, it's right. Yeah. No, I you know, getting up
(01:43:20):
and driving out to West Harrison everyday. But I think this year we're
only out there for two weeks. The way that the schedule is set up
and the start of school is setup, I think we're only out there
for about two weeks, which Iit's when you have a couple of times
we've been out there for like twoand a half almost three weeks, and
when you get into that third week, you're like, look, I don't
(01:43:41):
have anything to write anymore. I'vecovered everything that's interesting. I'm just here
for lunch. Yes, no,correct? Yeah? Correct? Have you
ever been out there for lunch?I can well no, I'm well,
I'm there for for the data rateout of the cooler that we get our
little that's our little snack is thegatory art of Columna for that. At
(01:44:01):
that point, no, I meanhave you come out to higher ground before
and had lunch? No? Youknow is good. Oh, it's outstanding.
It's outstanding. Oh yeah. Theyso it's like a it's like a
retreat, like a church retreat. And they have their own full kitchen that
they that they cook every day andsupply all the meals and we usually will
(01:44:23):
stay for lunch after practice. Theyhave a Monterey Ranch chicken sandwich on a
fresh baked croissant. That's phenomenal. It's outstanding. So, yeah, you
should come out one day. Isit you see food service that does no,
no, no, it's the peoplethat own Higher Ground. Oh really,
okay, Like it's a bunch oflike like fifty and sixty year old
(01:44:45):
people that that have been working atthe camp for years and years and years
and years and years, and theymake great food. It's excellent, very
nice, and that's a nice Youneed to come out one after the one
morning and watch practice and and thenwe'll we'll have lunch in the media room
or in the in the dining inthe dining hall. I may I may
do that if if it works intothe Bengals schedule, and it could because
(01:45:08):
the Bengals, you know that theyonly go I think the max is three
days in a row. They havea day off. It's not doesn't mean
I have a day off, butit doesn't mean they have a day off.
You might have a morning off,you take a morning No. No,
I live in northern Kentucky, soI can hop on that that two
seventy five to seventy four beltway, that's not all that bad. Well,
we'll organize this. I'm looking forwardto the red second half of the season,
(01:45:32):
resetting expectations. Is it just coveraround five hundred, don't turn it
into a disaster and keep the keepthe train moving the next year. Yeah,
I was trying to do some mathon this. I mean, if
you think eighty fo you can setwhatever numbers you want. But if you
think eighty four wins is the wildcard level, the team has to go
thirty seven and twenty eight with thecurrent offense, I don't think that happens.
(01:45:56):
I do think with the current startingkitching staff, if it stays healthy,
the possibility is there for them tobe in enough games to do that.
But yeah, I mean in thedisaster would be a couple of the
key starting pitchers get hurt, anotheranother bat gets hurt, and then suddenly
this thing spirals crazy out of control. I do think they'll stay interesting long
enough and give us some hope inSeptember. I just don't know if thirty
(01:46:18):
seven and twenty eight is doable withthis, with this offense. I mean,
listen, the Reshines bump was great. I don't know how long that
gets sustained, right right? Icompared him to Aristid he's a Kino earlier,
and somebody compared him back to EricDavis. I was like, let's
relax, can we You can compareEllie to Eric Davis. We're not comparing
(01:46:38):
Resigns to Eric Davis. Calm downnow. One thing I will say,
though, is and you can certainlylook at his numbers in Louisville and they're
they're alarmingly not good. All thosethings. I mean, he was a
second round pick. He was therewas a high level of belief in Reshigns.
Does he when hit the ball fourhundred and fifty feet We've seen that,
(01:46:59):
there's there's no will tell you that. Last Sunday game against the Marlins,
I watched the last couple of thebats that he had and the two
times he swung hits flouts to theout there, but both times he hit
the ball and maybe it's the crowdreacted because they're thinking it was gone.
I'm like, holy cow, he'sdone it again. If you go,
I will say, when he hitsyou, let go a long, long
way. It jumps off the bat. There is absolutely no doubt about that.
(01:47:21):
All right, Skinny, Will youenjoy your final week of freedom?

My friend? You sound good?Yeah, I'm having a little hope in
(01:48:11):
this proton beam therapy. Well yeah, I'm in in there treating me like
a ching and and so I gotto get a couple more of these treatments
up at Loma Linda University up inUH sam Bernardino County. And then I
come get down to the joint herein Loorea, which ain't chop liver,
(01:48:34):
very nice grapes. Oh yeah, yeah, we'll pick a color. Pick
a color. There's lots of greenvegetables. I'm getting a little burnt out.
I'm ready for a shot of thekeel or something, but that ain't
in the plan. Evidently I'd haveto smuggle that. Raskalin, could you
(01:48:57):
fly out and bring the suburbos.Look, Mike, you're in hospice.
You can drink whatever the hell youwant. That's how it goes. Yeah,
sometimes that's how I feel. ButI'm holding out for hope, Austin.
I want you to have a greattime on your vacation. Forget about
the station and just enjoy yourself. My friend, Mike, thank you.
That is the plan. Yeah, you do it, Bill, you deserve
(01:49:20):
it, you know. I likethose. I like those. I don't
know a lot of people make funof those Marty and Tracy bits, but
I kind of think they were allthe kind of career because go ahead.
Those who have a great rapport,it's easy to listen to they do.
And Tracy's just a typical He's stilllike a typical California teenage punk really,
(01:49:46):
but spill little California. He ain'ta surfer though, because he's got too
big an ego for that. Butyou know, I love those bits with
Skinny and I just, uh,well, I love Skinny because HARKing back
to Skinny and Tom Gamble and theywere so good together, Chad, so
good together. She's Skinny. Idon't I don't know he's all right.
(01:50:12):
I guess he's all right. Yeah. Yeah, back when Lance and and
Mark Amazon and Don Burrows was verygood the Mad Redhead and then Selister was
cut from a different bag. Andthen big Dog Timmy Lewis Ye who was
big Dog Austin Austin. This boywas fat on fat Okay, he probably
(01:50:39):
went about four hundred Yeah yeah, big boy, no fine up four.
It was a big, big man. He was big and he wasn't that
tall Austin, so he was waywider than he was so but you would
have liked him. He was abig dude. I hope he's still going.
Okay. I was thinking, Chad, you must have had no content
today. You're giving me the schedulefrom nineteen, from twenty twenty to well
(01:51:02):
I just I did for it waslike two minutes, just the highlights.
It's not like I went over it. They released it today. It's my
job to talk about it. Okay, I'm not saying I liked it.
I was cracking up. Now,Hey, I got a question. I
got a question. Well, anybody'sstill playing the home Dog. Just remember,
(01:51:24):
if you don't play it every day, don't bother with it, because
otherwise you don't end up with thewith the very nice return at the end
of season. So if you're justdoing it when you feel like it,
I hope you lose because you don'thave it. Takes five minutes to do
that every day, and if youhave the discipline to do it for five
minutes, you'll come out in Octoberwith a very handsome return. Who was
(01:51:48):
the who? Who did Gail Katwitzsucceed kad at uc Uh? Was it
Jucker the eight or eight? No? You don't know. Wasn't it struggling
crazy? Wasn't wasn't Huggins. Didn'tHuggins come right after Yates? I don't
(01:52:15):
know. I thought I thought Ithought Huggins came after cat with But maybe
that might be. You remember GilKelly, he was there for a little
Yeah, I just I don't rememberthe specific years that all of that.
Uh, the Yates was fired ineighty nine, which would have been Huggins,
like right into Huggins. Yeah, yeah, I guess it was.
(01:52:39):
Hey, that's that That interview withCash for that was awesome, dude.
I really got a kick out ofyet. Cash is a great, great
dude. Cash actually Mike, Sohe went over to play overseas, and
uh, I hadn't heard from himfor a little while, and then out
of nowhere, one day, Iget a text from Cash that's like,
hey, can you call me?And I called him and he's like,
(01:53:00):
hey, man, I blew outmy knee again. My basketball career is
over. He was over in HollandHe's like, I'm stuck here for like
a month until I can get theswelling to get down and be able to
get back to Cincinnati to get itfixed. But I wanted to know,
like, do you have any jobopenings, Like I want to come work
for Bearcat Journal when I get backinto the to the States to kind of
(01:53:25):
just re establish myself in Cincinnati andbuild some roots. And I'm like,
yeah, absolutely, sir. Igot room on my staff for you,
and that's how Cash ended up workingfor me. He worked for me for
like two seasons and then got intothe coaching side of things and started finishing
working towards his masters and stuff. So Cash and I have been tight for
(01:53:45):
for a long long time. Oneof my favorite bearcats. Ever. I
wish I was back there to seethis, to see that. When when
are they doing that? Tomorrow nightis the first game. Yeah, see
that, we can do that.Okay. I just wanted to check and
tell you. I'm enjoying listening toyou and Austin have a good time.
And how are your girls? Everybodycool at home? Kids, everybody's good.
(01:54:09):
Lucky you, Mike. I'm intomorrow for for Mo again, and
then I'm in Monday for Tony.So you're gonna get a heavy dose of
me in the next couple of days. You're gonna get a heavy dose of
me too. So I love it. Thanks, Mike, appreciate it.
All right? All right, Austin? Or do we take one more break?
Are we done? What's the what'sthe plan here? We're gonna take
(01:54:29):
one more break? Okay, onemore break. I'll be back right after
this. Since any's ESPN fifteen thirtyCincinnati Museum Center. Has your be helpful
to put bumper music in? Sometimesthat helps, I mean not all the
time, but but sometimes. HThat's that's gonna about wrap it up for
(01:54:54):
Mike. Gail Catlet came in inthe in the seven in the mid seven
and I was only actually here ashort period of time before leaving to go
back to West Virginia, his almamater and coach there. Then the Bearcat's
brought in Ed Badger. He's stunkTony Yates, He's stunk Bob Huggins.
(01:55:16):
So Catler was mid seventies. Formy guy, Mike, where you head
at Austin? Where you going?I'm going to Georgia. Chaw Widja Devil
went down to Georgia. You're stoppinga Buggies. Yes, I will be
at a BUCkies at some point overthe next couple of days. I'll watch
the Reds in Atlanta on Monday, among other things. You have a great
time. You do not think aboutwork at all. I will not.
