(00:13):
Oh baby, here we go.Talk about a Friday. We got a
lot to get to. Cincinnati's ESPNfifteen thirty. Chad Brenda in for Melegar,
I thank you for choosing me.I think mot was back on Monday,

(00:36):
Is that right, Tea? Ithink yeah, he'll be back on
Monday. I'm not in on Monday. I'm not. I think I'm only
in like twice in August because everybodyrejoices what we have a day. We
have a day coming up, illlot to get to, you know,

(01:00):
Friday in July. You're normally thinking, boy, we're gonna, we're gonna,
We're gonna have to do some uh, some mental gymnastics to get us
through three hours. This three houris gonna be over in a blink because
there's a lot. There's a lotto get to. Red's back in action

(01:22):
tonight in Tampa Bay to take onthe Rays. TJ. Friedel is back
for the Reds. Reese Hines, the pre All Star Break Sensation is headed
back to Triple A. Jamar Chaseonce again not on the practice field at

(01:49):
Bengals camp. Make of that whatyou will. I'm sure we'll have a
a segment or two discussing that situationand what it means, which is,
let's be it, it doesn't meana whole lot currently. If it continues,

(02:14):
it could be a little bit moretelling. And I don't necessarily fault
Jamar Chase for this. I believeJamar Chase is set the way the rookie
pay scale works. I think hisbase salary is about a million and a
half and four million a little overfour million in UH in roster bonuses or

(02:36):
whatever bonuses. So roughly around sixmillion dollars is what it'll cost the Bengals
for Jamar Chase this year. Thebest wide receivers in the league are getting
thirty plus million dollars a year. Now, Jamar Chase is still in his
rookie deal. He still has essentiallyall of this season and all of next
season, so two full seasons beforehis contract is and then there's a franchise

(03:00):
tag here. Do I think it'sgonna get that far? Now? I
don't. I think the Bengals fullyintent to sign Jamar Chase to a long
term deal and keep him with JoeBurrow. But if you're Jamar Chase,
I'm getting six My buddy, JustinJefferson's getting thirty plus, I might want

(03:22):
to have a little bit more seriouslevel of conversation with the front office than
what Mike Brown kind of put outthere on Monday at the Mock Turtle Soup
press conference. But it's it's gonnabe interesting, and it involves the one

(03:42):
thing that the one thing that kindof drives me nuts when it comes to
team fan relations, and that's ZachTaylor obviously having Jamar chair back and not
making a bigger deal of this thanneed be and saying Jamar is being eased

(04:10):
into training camp. Well, it'sday three and we all know that is
not the case. They are notin pads, they are not hitting,
it is not a physical practice. They are not out there long. They
are wearing helmets and shorts and itis not physical. And there's no need.
If Jamar Chase is healthy, whicheverybody says he is healthy, there's

(04:34):
no need for him to ease intomissing the first three days of practices if
it's not something either injury related orguess what, money related. So just
call a spade as paid, andI think it does more damage than good

(04:54):
when you go that route and essentiallytreat your fans as if they're stupid.
I think it, you know,I understand why it's being done, but
there has to be a better way. There has to be a better way.
So we'll get to that, andthen we'll get to Tarin. How

(05:17):
am I supposed to handle reporting onnews that I broke? Do I credit
myself? Of course, I'm gonnasay, go to bre Bearcat Journal for
more. For me, go toBearcat Journal for more. According to Chad
brindle Me, the Victory Bell, one of the longest series in the history

(05:40):
of college football, they've played onehundred and twenty seven times, is coming
to an end. The contract forthe series was set to run through twenty
twenty nine. Following the win atNippert Stadium last year, Miami bought out
of the two return trips that wereremaining on the schedule, one in twenty

(06:02):
twenty five one in twenty twenty eight, so they were no longer going to
come to Knippert Stadium. That leftthis year where the game is being played
in Oxford, twenty twenty six, where the game is to be played at
Paul Brown Stadium, and then twentytwenty seven and twenty twenty nine were also

(06:24):
trips to Miami, where Miami wouldbe the home team. So in response
to Miami canceling the twenty twenty fiveand twenty twenty eight games at Knippert,
Cincinnati has canceled the twenty twenty sevenand twenty twenty nine games up the road
in Oxford, which means that thisyear the teams will play in Oxford,

(06:47):
and in twenty twenty six the teamswill play at pay Corpse Stadium downtown,
and after that game there will beno more games on the schedule in the
Battle for the Victory Bell. Andlet's be honest, I don't see it
returning if ever, for a longlong time, and some of this is

(07:15):
just a necessity for Miami. Let'stake a look at the reality of the
situation. College sports is a bigmoney business, and the mid Western Athletic
Conference the MAC is not involved inthe big money of that business. Their

(07:38):
TV deal is very very very veryvery very small. I think last I
saw, I think it was likeseven hundred thousand dollars per year per school,
when Cincinnati is going to be gettingnext year fifty million dollars personally out
of the Big twelve. Roughly theupwards of fifty million dollars, So Miami

(08:01):
wants to take that to break itdown a little bit, when there's a
home and home series, essentially whathappens is there's a little bit of travel
money involved, but there's no moneylike major money exchanging hands for the game.
Miami sees that game as an opportunityto go on the road play a

(08:22):
Power four opponent every year, andthe going rate for those games right now
is one point two to one pointfive million dollars, so that money will
be added into the coffers and bea pretty significant winfall for Miami. So

(08:43):
they did not see going forward thenecessity to to continue playing at Nippert Stadium.
If you if you go back tolast year when they won, one
of the things Chuck Martin said postgamewas, I'm sure they'll have a one
point two million dollar check on mydesk for coming to Cincinnati and winning.

(09:03):
That was your first signal that Miamiwas was looking for that payday, and
the only way to get that paydaywas to get out of the series.
Of course, they weren't going tocancel the games at Yager Stadium because Cincinnati
fans travel and travel in large numbersto that game when it is played up

(09:24):
the road, and they make alot of money off that. So it's
a situation where Cincinnati had to decidethere were going to be no more games
in the Pert Stadium. Are youreally going to play three games over the
next six years six seasons, fiveyears six seasons at Miami? This fan

(09:52):
base would have lost their mind. Was a situation where there were gonna be
no games at Nippert, one gameat Paul Brown or pay Corp or whatever,
and three games in Oxford to closeout the series. Lost their mind.

(10:18):
So instead, Cincinnati cancels the twentyseven and twenty nine trips to Oxford.
They will play this year, likeI said Week three, they will
go to Oxford and play Miami, and they will play in twenty twenty six
at Paul Brown Stadium pay Corp Stadium. And that's all, folks. I

(10:39):
don't Maybe there's some way, shapeor form that this thing comes back around
way down the road, But asit stands, Miami doesn't want to play
the series because it's not financially beneficialto them, and Cincinnati doesn't really want
the series because guess what, it'sa no win situation for Cincinnati, you

(11:01):
are expected to win the game, and if you lose the game, it
is a major story. Cincinnati wonsixteen times in a row, nothing really
big was ever made of it.They lose once at Nippert Stadium and it
was a major deal. That isnot a game that is good for your

(11:24):
athletic department or your program. Soneither team, this is not Cincinnati was
done with Miami and want it outof the series. This is not Miami.
I mean, obviously, like Isaid, Miami was looking for a
payday in that slot, which isabsolutely their right. Is a football program

(11:46):
in an athletic department. But that'swhere tradition is at in college basketball or
a college football, college sports ingeneral. These days, it doesn't matter.
Money talks and everything else walks. All right, let's take a break.

(12:11):
When we come back, we'll talksome Jamar Chase, and then at
three point thirty we'll be joined bymy guy, James flight White as the
Big three comes to town Sunday andRed's plenty more right after this. Since
NAT's ESPN fifteen thirty, all right, party, Friday has started tearing.

(12:48):
Normally, Friday is like we gottawork, we gotta we gotta squeeze the
lemon to get all the juice outtoday. Would you just came in and
there was a picture Eleimonade on thetable? Wow? Really no, I
wish eliminade sounds delicious right now?Anyhow, A lot to get to,

(13:13):
a lot to get to. Idon't do you have the Olympics on right
now? I do not have theOlympics on in here. I do not
have the TV on. Oh good, because, uh, this is cringe
right now. The opening ceremony isalways a little out there. This is

(13:33):
beyond out there. It's they're inFrance like that. Those people are weird.
Nothing will surprise me what comes outof the opening ceremony today. Let's
uh, let's get to it.We have we have a lot to get
to. We have James flight Whitein advance of his Big three appearance here

(13:58):
in town on Sunday coming up herein about in seven eight minutes, and
ice Cube at the end of theshow, and then we'll talk to Tony.
Three times. I told to like, Tony, we got to bump
you for ice Cube. I thinkhe meant that that we weren't gonna call
him at all. In the fiveo'clock hour, but he knows this is

(14:20):
contractual. He has to do this. It's not optional. Tony, come
on, Jamar Chase not participating incamp again today. This is three days
in a row. They are offtomorrow. There is no denying. This

(14:41):
is not Zach Taylor tried. Idon't know what that. I don't know
what good it does you to sayJamar will be out Wednesday, t will
be out Thursday, Joe will beout Friday. If Jamar wasn't intending on
practicing at all this week, Idon't know what. I don't know what

(15:03):
good that serves. Because what itdoes is it creates this narrative that you're
seeing nationally and somewhat locally wondering what'sgoing on with Jamar Chase. I don't
understand other than you're trying to coverfor Jamar because it's not on field.

(15:28):
It's not injury related, it's moneyrelated. And that's okay. Guess what.
I think we're all grown enough nowto have an understanding that sports his
business, and Jamar Chase, ina very physical, very violent sport,
is looking out for his brand. He sees a twenty five million dollar discrepancy

(15:54):
and what his peers are making atthe wide receiver position for twenty twenty four
work. Do the Bengals plan totake care of him down the road.
Sure, that doesn't do Jamar Chaseany good now, but acting like this
is something that it's not fuels speculation. Not being open and honest, not

(16:21):
being transparent with why things are theway they are, is what creates rampant
speculation. Maybe they're okay with that, and that's fine, but don't be
surprised when it happens when you're notbeing honest with your customer base. That's

(16:44):
all. Let's take a break.James White, former Cincinnati Bearcat, current
member of the Big Three. Rightafter this since aut E's ESPN fifteen thirty,
Cincinnati's Welcome Back Cincinnati's ESPN fifteen thirty, Chad Brendle must have a feet

(17:07):
thot. I mean, do youwant me to do this interviewer or just
listen to Kendrick? Oh, wegotta do the interview. All right,
We'll do the interview then, ButI mean, you can't play me something
like this then extract me to talkto him? How many him before I
know? I know, Let's getto it. Let's bring in our first
guest. He is an NBA champion, He's a Big Three champion. He's
won championships in Europe, He's wondunk contests around the world. He's a

(17:32):
coach. He's also been a gueston the Bearcat Journal Network. One of
those things is not like the other. Let's welcome in. Member of the
Big Three, a Big Three champion, a Cincinnati Bearcat legend. James flight
White. Flight what's up? Man? How are you? What's going on?
Guys? How doing? I'm good? How was that intro? That

(17:52):
was? That was excellent? SoI was going to say all that stuff,
But how is how is life? How? How have things been?
I know, still rocking out withthe Big Three? Still working your way
into UH and and up the coachingladder. Catch us up with with flight
White and how you've been? Ohman, Life's great. Man. We
had a great season with the Timberwolvesthis year. Of course, like you

(18:15):
said, I'm just continuing to learngrow in the coaching space and get better
with that and hopefully continue to growand gain traction with that and get to
where I want to get to withthat. And uh, of course the
Big Three is still going on.We got a chance of getting the playoffs.
We've got a group of young guys. That's that's real good. And
they keep me alive with that,So I mean, life good, man.

(18:36):
I'm in Spain right now, man, just you know, working guys
out and just just working, coachingand just living a life. So I
can't complain. It's gotta be liketen eleven o'clock at night there, it's
it's about to be it's about tobe ten. It's not okay, that's
not bad. That's not bad.I've heard they just like take do you
do you take a nap in themiddle of the day in Spain? Is

(18:57):
that a real thing that people do? It's a thing in Europe period.
I remember I played in Italy. They would just take breaks in the middle
of the day and then just everythingwill be closed. So you know,
you gotta get us to that.I've been taking naps, not because of
that. I just been yet legs. I've been taking naps in the middle
of the day anyway. There's nothingbetter than a good nap, Oh,

(19:19):
nothing better, especially when you're oldlike me. It's not I see that.
How happy were you to see thejumpman return to Cincinnati basketball? I
know that's something you talked about wasa big reason why you came to Cincinnati,
or at least played it, youknow, played a part in your
decision. Had to be great tosee it back on the uniform. Yeah,

(19:41):
man, I mean we've been talkingabout that for years, and I
think that's a big thing with Cincinnati, a big identity thing with Cincinnati,
and just being a guy who justwants to see the program flourished. I
thought that was a big thing thatI needed to get done, just for
the brand, just for the theschool, just for recruiting. All those

(20:03):
things matter, and I think it'sI mean it's a big it's a big
thing. I think it's going tohelp us going forward. I mean,
just bringing that back, just bringingthat feelback, uh, to the to
the programs is a big deal. You were here when Cincinnati transitioned into the
Big East. Last year was thefirst year of the program transitioning back to
the highest level of basketball in theBig Twelve. What was your read on

(20:26):
the Big Twelve? I know youyou you living it. You're living in
Texas right when you're back here. No, I'm in, I'm in.
I'm in Minnesota, Okay, Minniesotafull time. I lived there, but
I mean I'm familiar with it.I mean, it's very it was a
very similar type situation man that wehad. I mean we did my my
year, we went to the BigEast. I think we did a very
good job. We finished eight andeight, and I think in the league

(20:49):
with the league that was like stacked. I think they took eleven teams of
ten teams to the tournament that year, and I think that it was it
was a stacked league this year forthe Big Twelve, and I think they
did a very good job the firstyear here, competed every game and I
think they did a good showing andI think because of that they'll have more
successful one forward. Any plans tomaybe get back and and check in with

(21:14):
the team anytime soon, Well,I'll be there. I mean I was
supposed to come Thursday, but Igot I came to Spain. But yeah,
I mean hopefully I can get outthere. You know, time permits
to get out there and just checkingwith the guys. I saw West actually
at at Summer League and I talkedto him, so you know, we
we stay in contact. And Italked to West from time to time and

(21:37):
also with a couple of the assistantcoaches. I saw them at the summerly
too, so you know, Idefinitely want to get there and just check
the guys out anytime former players andalarms to get there and support the team.
I mean, that's a that's agood thing. Tell us about the
Big Three? What what are peoplegoing to experience if they make it down
to see the action Sunday. Imean, I think the Big Three is

(22:00):
probably one of the most entertainer You'llbe surprised, I mean, how entertaining,
how uh, how actually packed thegames really are, how competitive they
are uh, And you get tosee like guys you haven't seen a lot
of guys you haven seen in along time play like Joe Johnson might Beasley.
These type of guys play and theycompete. Man. It's just you'll

(22:21):
be surprised about how hard these guyscompete every week. And the level of
competition is very good. And Imean the league is getting better every year
with the talent wiseuse. Younger guysare coming in, more guys that are
still playing, unretired guys are stillplaying, are are are getting into the
league. So it's getting better andbetter. That's why it's about time for
me to get out of there. What what's it like playing for a league

(22:45):
owned by Ice Cubes. It's dope, man. Man, He's uh,
he's like, you know, you'vegot a players coach. He's like an
owner's uh guy Like he's like withthe he's really with the players. So,
uh, anything we need, uh, anything we can do to make
the league better. Uh. Hedoes a good job of trying to you
know, get that to us.And uh he listens, you know,

(23:06):
and he just wants to He wantsthe league to grow. He wants people
to really, you know, getinvolved. He's doing a lot of things
for the fans and to help thefans get involved. So I mean he's
he's a great owner. I meanand these parts. You know, he
knows the entertainment business, so hemakes the game fun. Uh. People
don't know this, but but youare kind of in the lineage in DC

(23:27):
basketball that led to Kevin Durant,Jamar Johnson, James White, Kevin Durant.
Like that's the flow of things asit happened, right. I wouldn't
I wouldn't put myself in that thoseguys category. Honestly, those guys.
I mean I was ranked high,in high school, everything, But those

(23:48):
guys were DJ was a different level. He was like he was a people
don't know. People don't know.Yeah, people don't know that. I
mean DJ. Honestly, if hehe wasn't, if the cars didn't didn't
happen, I think he would bea multi time All Star. He was
on his way to being that.He was so talented. He was.
People say this all the time.He was KD before KD, but he

(24:10):
was literally he was one of Hewas six ten, six eleven, dude
that could shoot the ball, handlethe ball, do everything, super athletic
and uh yeah he was man.Watching him play, I was younger than
him, so watching him play everyday and and AAU was incredible. He
was like a guy wait he lookedup to and then I and I went
on to make being McDonald's All Americanand all that kind of stuff. And
but those guys was way ahead ofme far as like they're how good they

(24:34):
were at high school and stuff.I think you're selling yourself a little.
You were pretty good, Like you'repretty good back in the day. I
was solid. I was SAWD.I was solid. Play those guys as
generational guys, you know, whatI'm saying KD, of course is you
know, probably he is the bestplayer for my area. And uh,
I mean even Beasley, I don'tknow Beasley before or after KD. I

(24:56):
think he's I think right before, right, I think right before. Yeah.
So so even Beasley, Beasley's fromthe area, he's he's before and
then KD. So, I meanit was like we had like a little
line of super good wings and supergood players that you know, we're like
ultra talented that that came to It'sstill it's actually still happening. He's still

(25:17):
happening. We I mean, we'reproducing some of the best basketball players that's
that's coming out of high school inthe area right now. So we gotta
we got a high bid. Wegot to get that pipeline the Cincinnati back
open. Gotta get it. Idon't know how we I mean, I
know how, but I'm not gonnasay how. But you gotta get it.
We've talked about it on air before. We talked about it on air

(25:38):
before. All right, man,go ahead. No, I'm not as
uh eager right now where I'm atnow, so I'm not as eager,
but it's going to happen. Oneday, get you and DJ both on
staff, and DJ has been hereand then kind of branched off. Get
both of you back here. Belovely. We'll be very lovely, all

(26:03):
right, man, Well, Iappreciate you coming on and taking a little
bit of time out for us,and uh, make sure we reunite,
we link up next time you're intown. I appreciate it. Enjoy Spain
and enjoy the naps A man,I appreciate you guys. Hopefully all right,
there you go, James flight White. The Big Three headed to town
on Sunday, and we will uhlater in the show where fingers crossed.

(26:26):
Heren hopefully going to be joined byice Cube. I don't want to jinx
it, you know what I mean, understandable. I don't want to jinx
it, but hopefully towards the endof the show. Already got to push
you back one, so yeah,I'm not trying to jinx it. A
yeah, we will hopefully be joinedby ice Cube. Near the end of
the show. We will head downto pay Course Stadium, to the practice

(26:48):
fields adjacent to pay Course Stadium andtalk to uh, maybe a mildly inebriated
Tony Pike. After spending three hoursat the Holy Grail. Right after this,
Cincinnat Easy ESPN thirteen thirty, TacoBell's new cheesy street to loopas have
a lot off to you. BarKimber Credit Union on ESPN fifteen thirty,

(27:11):
the official home of the Bengals.Yes, and on we go, rolling
along in the three o'clock hour. Now we head down to the practice fields
adjacent to Paul Brown Stadium and talkto Tony Paiku, Tony, what is

(27:37):
Andy Reid doing in practice? That'sa great question. That guy's got Super
Bowl rings on. Yeah, it'sbold to wear your Kansas City gear and
still try to get into practice, which is bizarre to me, But you
know, it just shows the legitimatethreat that the Bengals are posing to the
Chiefs, for they'll stop at nothingto try to get an edge. And
why wouldn't Chad, why wouldn't itread want to sneak in here? Today?

(28:00):
When Joe Burrow is not practicing, when Jamar Chase is not practicing,
when Trey Hendrickson and Sam Hubbard arenot practicing, it at the heavy Special
Team's day seems like the perfect dayto start to sneak in. He's got
the mustaches, and the mustache wasn'ta good a good replica. It's kind
of it's kind of the giveaway. The rest was pretty close. Yeah,
but at a quick glance or ata passing glancy, Like wait a second,

(28:22):
reading here, he should just tryto walk out and talk to Zach
and see what security does. Yeah, just see what happens. Uh.
So, like you mentioned, noBurrow, no Chase, no Hendrickson,
no Cam Taylor bridd A lot ofa lot of no's today. Yeah,
what can you learn on a daylike this where there's a lot of guys
that aren't available. A lot ofthe day has been the the special team's

(28:48):
emphasis, and you know from coveringBearcats camps that it means it's a little
bit slower day, but it's alsoan important day and no more important than
this year because of the new kickoffrules. You know, it's such an
unknown what the rule is going tobe now because it's set up to allow
returners to get the ball in space, it's set up to avoid the big
collisions. And I think it's goingto be interesting early in the season,
Chad, if these teams are justgetting burnt in coverage, if they just

(29:12):
say you know what, screw it, Let's kick it deep and let's tack
on the extra couple of yards andlet'm start to drive there, because that
would be worth more than giving upa huge return in a big momentum play.
So I think how teams navigate thenew kickoff rules forth, this kickoff
team and return team are going tobe extremely interesting. And today it's a
little bit of the first uh screenshotinto how that'll look uh speak on you

(29:36):
know, kicking and punt coverage asa guy that you know you may made
a lot of headway as a gunner. Yeah, yeah, we didn't need
to use the punter month back intwo thousand and nine, Chad, did
they did they reading high school?Did they ever put you on there?
Were you the punter? You thepunter? I could I could do a
couple of the pooch punts where youknow, you set up and shotgun and

(29:57):
you walk about two or steps twosteps back and then you catch a snap
and pun I had a couple ofcoffin corners in my day. I mean
that's impressive. I you look likeyou'd have a pretty good leg. Yeah,
absolutely tall, skinny y, Yeah, you got a little bit of
the Mason Fletcher. Mom, yougot a little of that James Smith,
Mason Max Fletcher look to you.You don't have the accent bigger than I

(30:18):
mean, James has more muscle. But I think Mason Fletchers is a good
comparison. Yeah, that Jimmy couldprobably take you. Jimmy was a pretty
small, strong dude. Correct.Maybe the Bengals could call him in and
bring him in as a as apunter. What's going on with punter for
the Bengals find another punter today?I don't know. I don't know if
it's if you're worried about how manykicks you're having. I don't know,

(30:41):
if they want to make this moreof a competition, if they weren't happy
with the first couple of days. It's just it's it's hard this early in
camp to get a true grasp. But again, special teams is an emphasis.
They've always been an emphasis under DarrenSimmons, and he's built the equity
enough that gets trusted he knows whathe's doing and getting the guys in that
are going to give the team thebest chance. Maybe when they say that

(31:02):
they're giving a bunch of guys likethey're easing them in. They're just going
to do a ton of special teamsthe first like week or ten days.
Yeah, well, you know wecan talk more about the special teams and
not why you know, for threedays in a ro Jamar Chase hasn't done
anything. Well, I wanted tohold like you know, I wanted to
keep people in suspense. We weregoing to do that in the four o'clock
hour. We did you get tothat later? Yeah, you're right.
Yeah, you got to learn topace yourself on these camp reports, Tony,

(31:27):
because we have many of them excited. You're just really excited. Well,
I was hoping maybe you could itpull Zack aside and be like,
hey, what's what's really like?Football guy to football guy, quarterback to
quarterback, what's really going on?I'm like, look, I know,
Chad, he's talking to ice Cubetoday. So I need a little bit

(31:47):
more. I need something that that'sgoing to have substance, that's going to
capture the audience as much as maybeice Cube will, right, because you're
going to be the lead end iceCube in the five o'clock hour. Man,
every day's a good day. IJames White or Tony Pike, who
was the bigger star at the Universityof Cincinnati. You seeing me host,
you see James by far? Oh, James is pretty James is a pretty

(32:12):
big deal. While you a flight, they got McDonald's duncan McDonald's All American
Game dunk contest winner. Well,I count that after that was before it
was before his time. James onewas one of my favorite Bearcats. He's
he's great to talk to that andthat a bear Cat basketball is one of

(32:34):
my favorites. Well, Tone,I don't want to distract you too much
from watching, uh the teamwork onCoffin corners. Thanks, Chad, We
will get back to you about thistime next hour. Appreciated Tone, All
right, Chad, there you go. Tony Pike live from the practice view,

(32:55):
he sounded a little different than normal. Well, they said they did
a shot at tequila before he left. Notice he wasn't quick to get out
of here, like he wasn't leavingthe Holy Grail to make it over to
practice early like he does here whenhe bounces out at like one thirty.

(33:19):
Tony, let's go to our guyMike in La Mike, how's it going,
my friend? Have you had anytequila today? No, that's not
on this menu today. Okay, that probably won't have her happen again,
although you you got me thinking aboutit. Hey, Chad, or Chad,
you wouldn't believe it. Hey,Karen, do you get my email?

(33:44):
Yeah? I got it, MikeJo got it? Okay, thanks
man. I'll tell you Chad rightnow, right out of my room.
Here out on this little dick, there's fifteen foot sets coming in off the
point and there must be seventy fiveguys out there surfing it. Because it
is so unusual to get sets thatdig in the summer. It almost never

(34:08):
happens. But it's from the alNinyo effect. The water is way warmer
than it normally is, and theseswells are coming up from Mexico. They
You ought to see the size ofthese waves they are. They're like winter
time waves. It's a trip.Sounds awesome. It also sounds awesome that
the Pacific is warmer than normal, because that is a that ocean is cold.

(34:30):
It's cold like it's cold. Well, it can't do what in Hawaii
it's usually not, but it's notnever ever seventy seventy two to seventy three
typically in Hawaii. I lived therefor about fifteen years before when I first
at back from now and that's whereI got married and stuff. My kids
grew over there. Actually they're runthe water before they could walk, the

(34:51):
way before they could walk. Hey, I was so happy. This doesn't
bangle stuff. But I was sohappy to see Clayton Kershaw pitch for the
first time in the year last night, and you did a very representative job.
They're pulling out for four innings, but he had six k's and four
innings. He gave up a coupleof runs, but it was good to
see him come back. And rightaway they got rid of that big left

(35:13):
handed Paxston and send him back toBoston where he came from last year or
late this year, I guess. So it was kind of ironic. Now
I'm putting everybody in Cincinnati to sleep, and that's not fair. But you
know, Tony, and then we'regoing off yesterday about Schefter, you know
all how cold, But you know, dud, I mean sometimes we get

(35:34):
real defensive with our home teams, which is cool to a point, but
must be incredible, dude, calboy. He's been with ESPN for about twenty
years, so if he was incredibleon a regular basis he wouldn't be there.
My thing with that is, ifyou want to squash it, be
honest, be open, and tellpeople what's going on. When you say

(35:57):
something like we're easing jamal Are intocamp and then he doesn't practice for the
first three days, everyone knows you'relying. And what happens when you're not
truthful. Everyone starts to come upwith their own interpretation of your truth.
And you can't be surprised that thathappens when you're not being fully truthful.

(36:21):
Now I'm sure they have made they'veweighed the risk reward, and Zach Taylor
feels like he is going out ofhis way to protect his guy, going
out of his way to provide somecover for Jamar Chase. And that's fine,
but when you do that, youopen the door to everything that comes
with it, as opposed to whathappens if you just tell people. Look,

(36:45):
you know, Jamar is Jamar looksat the market. He sees that
his buddy Justin Jefferson's making thirty millionthis year, he's making six. He
thinks maybe he should be a littlebit closer to the top of the market.
Get then the bottom. I agree, and we all know about the
lying thing, dude, It justit just comes back to bite you in

(37:07):
the butt. I don't care whenand how it goes down. It always
gets back to bite you. Andthere's no no way around it. Even
if you do have a buttload ofmoney, you still got to face your
bullcrap sooner or later. He isa side. Did I hear this that
Joseph Aside might try? His wordingis that the inside linebacker this year?

(37:28):
Did you hear that? I havenot heard that, But I mean,
can we do something at a defensiveend first before we move the linebacker?
Got like? Really? I meanhe's been a disappointment. Hid This guy
hasn't played much. He's always hurtedn'the? Yes? So I don't get

(37:49):
it. Man, He's been therewhat three years? Yeah? I mean
this is his contract year. Soif he's going to put it together and
get a second contract, he betterhave a good year this year. Yeah,
you better have a good year thisyear. What do you think about
the Reds in this Tampa Bay series? Or is it even we're talking about?
I mean, I don't know.I guess, like I guess,

(38:15):
uh, normal thing. They letone of their better players go today in
the trade, so they're always keepingthat payroll trim and slim, and somehow
they seem to always do better thanthe Reds with the low payrolls. So
I don't know how they do it, but they do it. Yep.
It's uh, they're not They're notthe same level they've been. They've just

(38:37):
traded a res arena. Sometimes, this is what I worry about, Mike.
Sometimes teams get a bump from thatwhen it first happens. Then it
kind of settles in that that guyhas gone and they and they level off.
But sometimes you will see teams kindof like band together and uh and

(38:58):
and have a little a little hotstreak or a little bump of you know,
overperforming when your best player gets moved. So I think it'll be interesting
to see kind of how they respondto that tonight. And I'm trying and
I just got one this question.I don't know if the Raiders are ever
going to find a stable quarterback.I can't figure that team out, dude.

(39:20):
They got Davonte Adams, they gotsome players, and they have as
far as that tight end, Idon't know if he's still there, but
they can never come up with aquarterback that odd. It's I mean that
a lot of teams have that problem, don't they. Well, yeah,
but you know the Browns haven't founda quarterback in like thirty years. Yeah,

(39:40):
well yeah, but you know,I guess my problem is I always
think of the Raiders in the sixtiesand seventies, which I shouldn't. And
I'm cognitive fact that it's not thesixties and seventies, but they were always
so good for so long, andnow this last twenty years, you can't
count them anyway. I appreciate yourmy brother. I guess to get a
little procedure done here in about anhour and a half, so I just

(40:02):
wanted to touch base. So youhave a good weekend here. I have
a busted one, and thank you, Ti Chaid. I can't even talk.
Thanks, buddy, appreciate it.Mike, have a great weekend and
hopefully I will talk to you soon. Say thank you. All right,
t let's uh, let's take abreak. We come back. We'll get

(40:22):
to some reds in our number tworight here on Cincinnati's ESPN fifteen thirty.
This report you're sponsored by ESPN fifteenthirty. Here we go our number two

(40:45):
Cincinnati's ESPN fifteen thirty. Chad Brendleand for Mogar will be back on Monday.
Load and management. Summer is prettymuch over for everyone. It's a

(41:05):
thank you for choosing me. It'sa good change of pace for me.
Tarring during the summer kind of mixthings up and keep me a little busy.
I couldn't do it more than likea day here and a day there.
Once you see camp starts. Wehave a press conference Tuesday. Camp
starts Wednesday, and from then untilApril, it's just chaos, Yes,

(41:29):
understandable, just chaos. So it'snice, you know, like once a
month twice a month to like popin, grab us some lunch. Well,
Skyline Chili action. Today. Weboth normally when when I get Terrence
Skyline, we both go cheese Cony's. We both went three ways today and
it was really good as it usuallyis. We're just connecting on all wavelengths.

(41:53):
We are like we have become kindof one, like one one radio
entity. Uh not quite as theSkyline was very good. The Island Fridays
on Wednesday was that I've had alot of Island Fridays that batch on Wednesday.

(42:17):
Uh, a lot a lot goingon you're ready to join us every
Thursday, I believe start what nextweek? Yeah, I guess, I
guess I will be. I mean, that's up Tom. If he invites
me back, he might he mightgo to three the three sixty route.
They just they have Keegan on NowI could report something first and they just
credit Keegan. Wow, I knowthey did that. I break the Cincinnati

(42:42):
Miami ride the series news and Austinsays on three sixty, as reported by
Keegan Nickoson, I mean that guy, that guy, I tell you.
Oh, but but he's their guy, so hopefully I'm still your guy.

(43:05):
Okay, you're the original. I'mthe o G. He won't be where
it is without you, So Keannickoson break he's going to bolder those You're
right, Uh, that is?That is I believe the plan. Yeah,
he's not gonna do anything fun.You were You weren't around for all

(43:25):
of that. I sent him toBig twelve media days in Vegas. You
know you want to you want totake a guess of the guess of the
list of things that he did whilehe was in Vegas. Tarren cover the
bear cat at at the Press junketand then sat An hotel. Uh,
he got his haircut. Uh,he went to the gym all three days

(43:51):
that he was there. Uh,he did laundry. Huh he uh he
if you do before you go.He ate a Chipotle, you can get
that here right anywhere. Yeah, these are these are all. These were
all on the agenda for Kegan onhis trip to Vegas. Wow, that's
not how I tripped to Vegas. No, it looks a little different for

(44:14):
me if I go to Vegas. But in Casey, he was hailed bent
we go to Joe's. Yeah.Yeah, in Vegas he went to Chipotle
and then I think you know hewent out for a little media deal that
somebody bought him a steak. Sohe did that. He said he did
not gamble once. He said thehighlight of his trip was watching a lady

(44:37):
win twelve hundred dollars on a slotmachine. Could have been you. We
tried to get him to go toPack twelve Media Day, Pack two Media
Day, like you know, theywould have just let anybody in there.
There was an open bar. Waithe what Yeah, it was like the
Swan song for the Pack two. They just had it like, uh,

(45:00):
like a banquet hall with an openbar. We were like, Kegan,
if you go with your big twelvecredential, they'll let you in, like
absolutely, they want anybody that theycan there covering that thing. Just telling
me you work for twenty four sevensports and you'll get right in that.
I think you went to the laundrymat in the in the resort instead.

(45:21):
I know, kids, kids, you think you send a twenty four year
old to Vegas like you gotta worryabout him getting to the To the uh
press conference the next day, hewas bright eyed and bushy tail, I'll
tell you that much. Oh boy, we have a Reds lineup, tarn

(45:45):
I forgot the raising and plate. You forgot the Reds even where they were
still in season. Yes, buttheir season ended. Uh what Thursday?
Yeah, we all this Olympic stuffgoing on right now. I've been distracted.
The season ended Wednesday after noon inAtlanta. Yes, we'll get to
the Olympics in the five o'clock hour, Terren uh TJ. Friedel is back

(46:10):
and to make room, Reese Hinesis back in Louisville. So that's that's
an interesting one. The the tendays or so that that Reese Hines electrified
us with his with his bat hewill continue getting to develop down in Louisville

(46:32):
at Triple Triple A. Starting lineupfor tonight six point fifty first pitch,
India leading off, batting second orbatting leading batting leadoff, playing second,
get it together, Brindle, Elliede la Cruz batting second, playing short,
Spencer Steer in the three hole atfirst base, TJ. Friedel clean

(46:58):
up hitter. What are we doingplaying center field? D J. Friedel
in the fourhole. Candelario the DHbatting fifth, Stevenson behind the dish batting
sixth, Frailey batting seventh, inWright Noel Vie Marte batting eighth at third,
and Will Benson playing left and battingninth. Nick Ledolo on the mound

(47:27):
for the Reds as they will takeon Tampa Bay. Come on on the
mound for Tampa Bay. Shane Bazwho has three career starts. He is

(47:47):
a former first round pick by thePirates out of Lutheran, Texas and over
his over his season in twenty twentyfour, he is oh one with a
three ninety five ERA. Actually cameup last year, so he's had three

(48:08):
regular season wins three regular season lossesin twelve starts. He has an ERA
of four fifty four total innings pitched, So that will be UH, that
will be the battle the Reds willimpart on this evening, and I think

(48:32):
we know the answer. I meanthat the Reds aren't just be honest.
The trade deadlines in four days.I don't expect them to do anything.
If they do, it'll be somethingminor. I don't expect the Jonathan India
trade. I don't why would anybodytake on if you're looking to bolster,

(48:55):
you're starting pitching. You can't playoff. Teams don't have guys performing worse than
Frankie montass generally right now. Ican't imagine Frankie montosk goes. I could
see they've got a little bit ofa surplus in the bullpen. I could
see him maybe dealing a bullpen armor two. But those guys aren't gonna
bring back a ton, or atleast not a ton that's gonna make an

(49:19):
impact anytime in the in the nearfuture. I just don't see this team
doing anything down the stretch. Uh, in terms of adding players or being
aggressive being a quote unquote buyer.I don't see them really being a seller.
What do they have to sell otherthan India and a guy or two

(49:42):
in the bullpen. I don't thinkthere's much meat on the bone there that's
going to bring you anything of valuethat that you want in return. But
can we can we please see something that includes some consistency. The only

(50:05):
thing consistent right now about this Redsfranchise this season is there inconsistency. Play
a bad team get swept. Playa good team sweep them. Play a
middle of the road team, wintwo out of three, lose two out
of three. Does it really matter? It's just this ebb and flow of
ups and downs, just enough upsto keep you at least with an eye

(50:32):
on the TV, more than enoughdowns for you to say, this is
not a season that this team isis gonna, you know, make a
leap, that this team's gonna getto the NLCS, that this team's gonna
surprise everybody and take that jump andgo to a World Series. They're just

(50:53):
not, in large part because thehit has been as hot and cold as
it humanly gets. Somehow, thisteam, going into the second game that
got canceled on Thursday or on Wednesday, they were leading the National League in

(51:15):
home runs in July, but theyhad gotten to the point. It has
gotten to the point that they looklike even though they're not built like that.
The only way they can score isa home run, which isn't great
for a team that doesn't have anybonafide. Maybe Ellie is getting there,

(51:37):
but like bonafide power hitters. Nota lot of guys with thirty forty home
run seasons in this lineup. Butit's boom or bust. It does not
look like what we were told theorganization was aiming for. Get guys on,
be aggressive on the base pass, move them over via the steel.

(52:00):
Get a guy you know, youget a walk. In the old regime
where they had a bunch of guysthat look like Beer League softball guys,
you get a walk and then somebodyhits a two run home run. Well,
this team was supposed to get awalk, that guy steals second,
somebody hits a single on that guyscores. That's supposed to be like the

(52:22):
type of team that we were goingto watch. That hasn't been the case.
Instead, it's been hey, let'sstrike out, strikeout, ground out,
hit a solo home run, orEllie walks, steal second and then

(52:45):
get stranded there and nobody drives himhome. That's been the frustrating part of
this is there's no consistency and identityin who they are. I want to
see that over the final two monthsof the season. I want to see
a team that looks like they havea clue what the approach is, what

(53:09):
the mindset is, what the mentalityis, what the identity of this offense
is. I haven't seen that thisyear. We saw it last year in
spades, and it's what made thatteam so much fun to watch. They
took balls the other way, theyslapped singles, they went first to third,

(53:32):
a lot of times, they wentfirst to home if a ball got
to the wall or squirted through theoutfield. We're not seeing any of that
right now. We're just seeing guysgoing up there and either it's a home
run or the Redstone score. Ijust don't think my understanding, my viewpoint

(53:55):
on what we had been told aboutthe way that they were restructuring this franchise,
restructuring this offensive approach, that theywere no longer going to be a
team a boom or bust home runteam. They were no longer going to
be a three outcome team. Strikeout, walk, home run, but instead
they were going to play a differentbrand of baseball. And I think when

(54:19):
you have an identity crisis, that'swhen you find inconsistency. What is the
identity of this team? Offensively?I don't think they're going to make the
playoffs. I feel real confident. It's not a team that's going to make
a run in the playoffs, evenif they do sneak in. So over

(54:40):
these next two months, starting tonight, starting with Tampa Bay, let's see
a team that starts to define andget back to defining what we thought they
were going to be as we watchthem play well through the middle of last
season before they ran out again usat the end, phone lines are open

(55:04):
for the rest of this hour,so please give us a call. Let's
hear what you think on the Reds, see what you think on Jamar Chase
Joe Burrow's blonde hair. Please know, Yeah, I don't really care.
I don't really care, but ifpeople want to talk about it, I'll
take the call and then I'll tellhim that I don't care what his hair

(55:25):
looks like. He's got a helmeton, who cares. It's take a
break more after this since that he'sESPN fifteenth thirty Mirror, Mirror on the
walls, tell me, mirror, what is wrong? Can it be my

(55:47):
day? Is it just my days? People say? When it comes,
it's just me myself, and it'sgonna be difficult, Taran, I haven't

(56:08):
invited anybody over, but man, tonight's gonna be a perfect fire pit night.
Should I just do solo fire pit? What are your friends doing with
everybody else doing? I don't know. I just haven't asked anybody. I
don't know, Like most of themare married with kids. Like usually you

(56:29):
got to like shoot that text likeWednesday or Thursday, like hey, you
know it's gonna be doing a fireon Friday. We're like arrn. We're
in our mid forties, we're old, Like I'm I'm I don't want to
admit it. But the spontaneous likehey, come over to my house at
nine o'clock just isn't. It doesn'thit like it used to. Plus I

(56:52):
have to do We're gonna have todo a show on the Miami series.
So I'll get home, I'll getsome food, I'll get a show corded
on the Bearcat Journal YouTube channel, and then it's gonna be like a thirty
I don't, but I hate missinga fire pit night when the weather's like
this. It's perfect. And theshow that we that we put on today,

(57:15):
I know, so I'll probably what'swhat will probably happen is right before
dark, I'll go out, I'llget it started. I'll have a little
fire pit for a little while bymyself, listening to to old West Coast
hip hop. In celebration of today, what can you do? Let's go

(57:37):
to Mark and Florence. He wantsto talk about the Red's lineup. Mark,
what's going on? Brother? Okay, let me make this point first,
all players, all baseball players,go in the slump. Sure,
Will Benson been in the slump allseason? Yes he has been bad?
Yeah yeah, okay, resign somore in one week than any of those

(58:00):
outfitters showed all season. But hegoes into a one for seventeen, which
you knew it was coming, andthen they sent him down, activate TJ.
Friedo. Okay, but then theybat him clean up tonight. Somebody
make this make sense? Does notmake a whole lot of sense, man,

(58:22):
But what are we doing? Imean, if you want, let's
be honest, you know, whatthey're doing. They're rearranging deck chairs on
the Titanic. This ship is sinkingthis year. It's not going anywhere.
I mean, one thing that theyhave been consistent about is doing analytics and

(58:43):
moving things around. But I mean, come on, logic got to come
in somewhere. I mean, TJ. Friedo. If you're not going to
bat him first, you bat himsecond. I mean, what is so
hard about that? I don't knowEllie's batting second. You know where you
bat him if you're gonna bat andI and I think they've figured out India

(59:07):
is most productive batting leadoff. Whenthey have moved him out of leadoff,
he has not been the same hitter. So okay, out, I'll fit
the dead out last year, rightright, But they finally figured it out,
right, So so they're keeping himin leadoff, and that's I'm okay
with that. If you have anotherleadoff hitter, you either bot him second

(59:28):
or you bout it, or youbat him ninth. Yeah, in this
particular case, I will say battingsecond. I think Ellie is settled in
at second though, right, Like, I think he looks comfortable there.
Well, well, if he's comfortablebad in second he could be comfortable bad
in third, he's steal maybe, but I think they want him on for

(59:51):
whoever's batting third and fourth batom ninthlike that, what's what's what's It's not
like TJ. Friedel is such agenerational hitter that you can't hit him at
that That that that you're gonna you'regonna lose three games a year because he
he had got one less at batlike, that's not that's not TJ.
Friedel bat of ninth. No,well, that's where we disagree at I

(01:00:16):
think him and Endia should back onetwo at the top of the land up
and uh. And the only reasonI think Ellie should bat third is because
he can hit for some power.Yeah. But if you have Ellie up
there batting third, okay, thefirst two guys get out Ellie gets on,
you don't. He's not gonna beable to be as free stealing bases

(01:00:37):
as he is if he's bitting second. Okay. Going forward for the future
of Ali, do we want himon base stealing basis scoring runs or do
we want him driving in runs, hitting home runs? I mean, what
what do we really want from him? What? What kind of player do

(01:00:58):
they want? Him to be Imean, and I think ideally he's a
gap to gap guy that that makesyou pay with his speed. Well,
I'm not making the decisions down there, neither of mine. But I'm just
I'm just shaking my head because theythey look like they have a management from

(01:01:20):
management on up that looks like aproblem. Resign Why would you send him
down? I didn't understand. Idon't understand that. I I the problem
is if you look at resigns, the the glass slipper was going to turn
back into a pumpkin at some point. He's like a two fourteen hitter in
the minor league. So I don'tmind he's the young guy you sent him

(01:01:45):
back. But the Benson thing, you gotta. You gotta make a decision
on Will Benson sooner or later. And I don't think that decision is a
favorable one for Benson because he's notshown it this year. What what he
The potential is tantalizing, But we'regetting to a point where we know like

(01:02:06):
he is showing us who he is. And one of my favorite sayings,
and when people show you who theyare, believe them. Will Benson is
a two hundred hitter like he's nota good baseball player. Yeah, he
doesn't. To me. The biggestproblem I see with him he doesn't hit
the ball the other way. Hepulls everything. And they will have to

(01:02:30):
make a decision between him and JakeFrehley because I can't have him both.
They're redundant, right, Yeah, yeah, yeah, I will take Jake
freely because I think he's a betI think he's a better hit. I
mean, I guess the argument isif you take Benson, you're betting on
upside. But man, it hasbeen He's striking out like forty five percent

(01:02:52):
of the time. He's not makingcontact, he's not made no adjustments,
and he tries to pull everything. He doesn't hit the ball the other way.
I mean, when you when youlook at baseball, all great hitters
hit the ball the other way tohit the ball to all fields. He
doesn't really hit the ball to allfields. When he makes contact, he's

(01:03:13):
usually pulling. Me. Well, what pitchers are so good now that if
they know that you're pulling off theball, they're just gonna throw sliders,
They're gonna throw sweepers, They're gonnakeep the ball away from you. They're
gonna throw cutters, and they're gonnamiss your back because you're not able to
stand in the box and take theball the other way, and he has
shown no ability to do that.So he's never gonna get He's very,

(01:03:35):
very rarely gonna get a pitch tohit that isn't a mistake pitch. Yeah,
exactly. So to me, whenthe all season comes, I think
they'll have to make a decision absolutea lot of these a lot of these
things we see in this season, they'll play themselves out. Like I don't
believe the future of Li playing shortstopis going to be the right move.

(01:03:59):
I think he's terrible at short stuff. I strongly disagree. That's neither here
nor okay. But yeah, whenMatt mccrane comes back, hopefully he is
what he was before he hurt hisshoulder. Because if you look at the
history of baseball players when they hurtthey shoulders, you can look at Tyler
Stevenson, you can look at youcan go back and look at Austin Kerns.

(01:04:21):
I remember Ryan Lovewick, I rememberKen Griffy. I saw all them
guys hurt their shoulders and they werenot the same. So I'm just hoping
he's what he was before he hurthis shoulder, and if he is,
they'll have to move somebody out ofthat infield because they got too many.

(01:04:42):
They got too many infielders. Soit's a good problem to have, but
they'll have to move somebody. Butbut that I think that decision will be
made in the off season. Idon't think that decision to be made this
season. I mean as far asthe trade deadline and then I'll get off.
I'm hoping they trade. I'm hopingthey Chase trade Frankie, and I'll

(01:05:05):
be okay if they Chase traded Jamberbecause I don't see I don't see what
the UC is for him either.I mean, he doesn't. He doesn't
do a lot for me. Imean, if he could play the outfield
with the numbers he's put up,I guess he'd be okay. But you
know he doesn't. How many timesdo you see him come to the plate

(01:05:27):
with a man on third or menon base and scoring position less than less
than two outs and he grounds outso he can barely get a he can
barely get a five ball to theoutfield. I mean, he he doesn't
situatingly hit at all. Yeah, that's one of the things you would like
to have. I would like tosee the analytics on that. Sometimes the

(01:05:48):
eye test is is wrong, butuh yeah, would when you bring in
a veteran hitter. When you bringin a veteran hitter, you expect them
to be able to do things likethat. I will agree with you that.
If you why, I gotta go, Mark you study, Okay,
I'm up against it. I'm upagainst it. I gotta go. Thanks
man, Uh sorry, running outof time. We are extremely long on

(01:06:09):
this segment. Let's take a breakwhen we come back. You want to
do Tony after this? Tarran? It was probably sque in early. Well,
I mean, I mean, Idon't know. I just I don't
know time wise, how you wantto do it. We'll figure it out
in the break more after this Cincinnati'sESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati's ESPN Taren. I

(01:06:40):
really hope we get an answer toour questioning you. I don't know,
but I'm asking him first, howcan you have a good good day if
mama cooked the breakfast with no hog? I have to know it's the first
It's I'm leading with that on ifwe get him on the phone, Tarn

(01:07:01):
and then Big Three questions. Yeah, yeah, I'm ambushing him with that.
First, I have to know Iwill never get to talk to ice
Cube again. You have to lookat it that way, so you know
you gotta do what you gotta do. We didn't want to notice answer this
question for years now, right, for seven years, we have been talking

(01:07:23):
about this question. To get himon this show, we got to ask
him. Uh, if you wantto go see the Big Three, you
think he'll be there. You thinkmaybe somebody could ask him in person.
If we don't get to Sunday, good luck trying to get down to him
on Sunday. Yeah, well,it depends on how good these tickets are.

(01:07:45):
If you want tickets to the BigThree, we will be giving them
away at the top of the fiveo'clock hour, so join us. Then
you have to play a trivia game. You have to play a trivia game
when we're not just giving them away. Got to you gotta answer questions.
But uh five, we will dothat. Do we take one more break
now and then go down to TonyYes, okay, let's take a break.

(01:08:05):
Then we'll go down to Tony Pikeat pay Corse Stadium right after this.
Since Id's ESPN fifteen thirty Man,when addressing the problem of rectel this
month's p in fifteen thirty, theofficial home of the Bengals. Yes,
all right, here we go backdown to pay Corpse Stadium practice is I

(01:08:29):
assume over now the punters have punted, the kickers have kicked it, kicked
it, Joe Burrow has watched it, and the Bengals are done. Let's
go back down to Tony Pike. And here, Tony, what did Jamar
Chase do if the kickers kicked itand the punters punted and Joe watched it,
what did Jamar? Do you know? Jamar was downgraded today, Chad.

(01:08:53):
He didn't even wear his jersey outthe practice. Uh uh oh.
First two days, First two dayshe wore jersey. Today, no jersey,
Bengals hat Jim shoes. So dowithout what you want, do with
it what you want, Tony.Look, you talked about this, I
talked about this. I think we'rewe're pretty in lockstep here. I understand

(01:09:15):
why Zach Taylor kind of laid onthe grenade on Tuesday. But if you
want to avoid the speculation, theone thing you don't do is lie to
your fan base or not be ifLie is too strong, not be honest
with your fan base. That isgoing to create what we are watching unfold

(01:09:39):
right now. There are holdouts allacross right training camps. It happens in
football. People understand that it happensin football. People also understand that the
Bengals have great leverage here. AndI get it, like you want to
make Jamar Chase not look like thebad guy here. Here's the thing in
the whole situation. How do youportray this If Wednesday of next week comes

(01:10:02):
and he still hasn't practiced, areyou still gonna say, well, he's
just easing back into camp when whenleading into camp you talked about an emphasis
on preseason camp and starting faster thisseason and changing how you practice and a
new system with Dan Pitcher where yougot a bunch of different wrinkles. Are
you still gonna come out there andsay, well, he doesn't really need

(01:10:24):
the reps out here, We're justmaking sure the young guys get some reps.
You have created a monster. Thelonger this goes on, the bigger
of a story this becomes. Insteadof just saying on day one, you
know what Jamar is here, heloves being here. He's gonna be in
meetings, he's gonna be out onthe field, but until something happens from

(01:10:45):
a contract standpoint, he's not gonnabe practicing. That was it, It
would it would now be a nonstory like all the other ones that we're
not talking a ton about, CeedeLamb or Turm Williams, right, because
we know where we know where everyonestands with Jamar. No one knows where
this stands, and that's what createsmore of a problem. And Jamar says
no comment, and Zach gives acomment, and Joe gave maybe the most

(01:11:09):
telling comment of all on Wednesday whentalking about the situation, like that's that's
what do you know about Jamar? That's between Jamar and the front office Like
okay, well I can read betweenthe lines there, Like I just I
It's one of my pet peeves whenmanagement, ownership, coaching, whatever speak

(01:11:30):
to the fan base like they're stupid, Like come on, just just shoot
them straight. Now. The media, the media is covering this team.
You heard the conversation after practice yesterday. Oh, communication has been great.
We've got a plan in place.Jamar was asked by Kelsey Conway, Hey,
is this contract related, he saysno comment. If it wasn't contract
related, you would just say no, like Zach said, I'm just seizing

(01:11:54):
into things. But you say nocomment. Again, it's it's a negative
way to talk to the media andthe fan base because everyone can read between
the lines. Right now, Noone in the NFL, when it's just
helmets only, is just gonna easein and not do anything. For the
first three days of training camp,Tony, those are the days you wanted

(01:12:15):
to practice. Let me out therewith a helmet and no shoulder pads.
Correct. And we talk so muchabout development and the young wide receivers,
and I get Zach Taylor saying it'sgreat because those guys get reps. Do
you know what else this team needsleaders? Tyler Boyd's gone, Joe Mixon's
gone, Cheeto's gone. How aboutsomeone in the wide receiver room to not
just say do it this way,but hey, in an individual drill,

(01:12:38):
this is the way we do it. If you don't want to go in
team, that's fine, but goin the individual stuff and then let those
guys get working team. It's justI get why you're trying to protect Jamar
Chase, but it comes off amuch different way, in a much different
tone to the fan base. Absolutely, Absolutely, ultimately this is probably not
going to be a big deal.Ultimately, Jamar Chase is going to play

(01:13:00):
for the Bengals this year. LikeI'm not worried about it from that standpoint.
I just look at it as somuch of this that we've seen over
the first three days of campus justunnecessary. It's just unnecessary. All right,
ton We will catch back one moretime with you, hopefully leading into
ice Cube in the five o'clock hour. Love it, Chad, Thank you.

(01:13:25):
All right, there you go,Tony Pike live from pay Corpse Stadium,
giving you the update, the lateston Jamar Chase, which the latest
really isn't anything because he's not outthere. Our three coming up, Brenaman
and Jones on baseball though, rightafter this, since nat He's ESPN fifteen

(01:15:00):
Friday, an interesting Friday, andwe haven't even gotten really to the big
news of the day concerning the Miamiand Cincinnati series, the battle for the
victory bell one hundred and twenty sevengames. There will be two more and
then I guess we'll see maybe maybenot. I know. John Cunningham recently

(01:15:31):
as we were on the air,has released a statement on the matter.
Cunningham says, we understand the importanceof the historic rivalry to our fans in
college football, and we are disappointedMiami University will not be coming to the
Nippert Stadium next season. However,we look forward to facing the Red Hawks
at Yeager Stadium in the Battery forthe Battle for the Victory Bell this fall

(01:15:53):
in at pay Course Stadium in twentytwenty six. We will continue to explore
opportunities to play Miami in the future. Sure, we thank Miami for the
many memorable moments over the years. If you're just joining us, it's a
story that I broke right before thisshow began. Miami initially canceled the two

(01:16:19):
games, the two remaining games atKnippert Stadium in twenty twenty five and twenty
twenty eight. That would have putCincinnati in a position where there would have
been four games remaining in the series. The contract went through twenty twenty nine.
Those games would have been this year, twenty twenty seven and twenty twenty
nine at Yager Stadium and twenty twentysix at Paul Brown. You want to

(01:16:45):
talk about a fan base flipping out, Tarren, imagine if it would have,
you know, been the story wasMiami cancels two games at Nippert,
UC will play three more times atMiami and one more time at Peykorp Stadium.
That would not have gone over wellwith Cincinnati's fan base. Cincinnati has

(01:17:08):
in turn canceled the games in twentyseven and twenty nine at Yeager Stadium,
So they will play this year thegame that is scheduled for Yeager Stadium Week
three, and then they will playone more time in twenty twenty six at
Paul Brown Stadium, pay Corpse Stadium, And as far as the yearly rivalry

(01:17:30):
that will be it. As JohnCunningham mentions opportunities, I would assume so
Cincinnati with the Big twelve, hasnine conference games. That leads you three
games to play with in your outof conference schedule. Cincinnati has made it
pretty clear their intention is to playan FCS game at home. Now with

(01:17:54):
this series off the books, theywould like to play a group of five
school every year at Knippert Stadium,a by game, if you will,
where Cincinnati pays the opponent to comein, which is what Miami was looking
for. That's why Miami wanted outof this series, was to give them
an extra date to schedule either aa buy game on the road at a

(01:18:17):
Power five Power four opponent, orto schedule an additional home game. Though
with Miami that's a little more difficultbecause they have not done a great job
filling up Yeager Stadium to make youknow, a sizable amount of cash for
a home game, and the coststhat would come with bringing somebody into play

(01:18:41):
at Yeager Stadium. So financially forMiami, this is the path that they
feel is best for the future oftheir program. They are not getting a
you know, a cash windfall fromtheir TV contract, and college sports is
expensive, and they feel like addinga a game on the schedule that allows

(01:19:08):
them to make money as opposed toa home and home which generally is not
year over year a money making experiencebecause there is no cost associated with the
game, whether that be Cincinnati youknow, paying Miami to come to Nippert
and then nip you know, Miamipaying Cincinnati to go up there, it's

(01:19:29):
a wash. So financially, thiswas a what I think, it's a
necessary move for Miami. I don't, you know, one hundred percent like
it because there is some value tohistory and tradition in college sports that is
being escorted out and being kind ofthrown out the window. This furthers that

(01:19:55):
perception, that reality that a serieslike this just is no longer all that
feasible or all that interesting for eitherparty involved. For Miami, it's because
they need a payday. They needthat money that influx into their athletic department.
For Cincinnati, it is a loselose game. Cincinnati is expected to

(01:20:19):
win this game. Prior to lastyear, Cincinnati had won sixteen in a
row. The last time Miami hadwon a game in this series. Before
last season, Ben Roethlisberger was onthe roster. Just to give you some
context and how long it's been thatCincinnati had distanced themselves from Miami in football.

(01:20:46):
So if you're the Bearcats, itdoesn't make a whole lot of sense
from that perspective. If you win, you're supposed to win. If you
lose, the fan base is inan uproar because as you shouldn't lose to
a mac program essentially, ever, and ultimately, when you do something over
and over and over and over again, the law of averages is going to

(01:21:10):
hit eventually, and the team that'snot supposed to win is going to win
once in a great while. That'swhat happened last year in a transition year.
You know, obviously year one forScott Saderfield, they did not have
a good season. Cincinnati did nothave a good team. Miami won the
mac They had one of their betterteams in recent memory. And you know,

(01:21:32):
if you go back to that game, statistically, Cincinnati dominated the game.
Miami's defense did a very good jobin the red zone. I do
not think that was a case ofCincinnati just was you know, inept or
screwed up in the red zone.I thought Miami's defense in those situations did

(01:21:53):
a good job keeping Cincinnati out ofthe end zone. It allowed Miami to
hang around. Cincinnati misses or hasa field goal blocked at the end of
regulation to win the game. Miamiwins in overtime. But that's the type
of circumstances Miami needed to have happenedto win this game, and those just
you know, they're not going toplay out with regularity at this stage of

(01:22:15):
where the two programs are. Sothere's a better situation for Miami to move
away from the game. There's abetter situation for Cincinnati to move away from
the game, and ultimately both sidesdecided that that was in their best interest.
Now, in that group of fivegame, could you see Miami occasionally

(01:22:38):
come to Nippert Stadium and Cincinnati paythem one point two million or whatever it
is. In a one off.Yeah, I think that's possible. I've
been in contact with with my buddyJed Demuci, who used to work at
Local twelve. A noted not likeAustin the fake love and honor, but

(01:22:58):
like a real Miami guy, aguy that genuinely cares about Miami, Like,
well, why wouldn't why can't theysplit the revenue at Paul Brown Stadium
and play every year? Because that'sthat doesn't make sense for Cincinnati. That
makes sense maybe for Miami. Butif Cincinnati can get a home game and

(01:23:19):
get a sold out, you know, forty thousand seat Nippert Stadium, they're
gonna make a lot more money doingthat than they are splitting revenue with Miami
at Paul Brown. So it's justnot feasible for either team. The juice
isn't worth the squeeze for either teamfor this rivalry to continue as is currently

(01:23:42):
constituted. And that's what we're seeing. And I know, if you're you're
an old school fan of UCE,you understand how close these two programs once
were. And let's be honest,it took Cincinnati a sixteen game winning streak
to take a lead in the series. They took a one game lead in

(01:24:05):
the series, and Miami even didup a season ago. Miami dominated this
series for the longest time, butthe landscape changed. Cincinnati moved up,
Miami stayed put. Cincinnati moved fartherup the pecking order, farther up the
food chain than Miami did, andit just became a game that I don't

(01:24:29):
think made a lot of sense foreither party, unfortunately. And that's the
nature of college sports. Follow themoney. If you wanna know why things
are the way that they are, follow the money and you'll find out exactly
why the money didn't make sense forMiami and for Cincinnati. What did Cincinnati

(01:24:50):
gain from going to Yeager Stadium everyother year or every third year or whatever
it is. Once they added uhpayk or Stadium into the rotation, Cincinnati's
going to make more money paying aMac opponent a million dollars or whatever to
come here and get the gate andeverything that comes with it, all the

(01:25:13):
revenue that comes with the home game, as opposed to those seasons that they
were traveling to Miami or traveling toPaul Brown Stadium. So money talks.
I'm sure if Miami had their way, Terran they wouldn't play. They wouldn't
have played another game after last year. That would have been it. Thank

(01:25:35):
you for the victory bell. Wewill keep it here and we'll see you
never. Series is tied. Eh, we got the trophy. The series
is tied. You don't have anythingon us, like we're gladly moving on.
They will now have two more gamesto kind of decide with the histree

(01:26:00):
of the victory bell in the balance, and you got to win both,
right if you split, that ain'tgonna work. Now you're sixty one,
sixty one and seven, and youknow, I guess whoever wins that game
at Peycorp In twenty twenty six,uh would be the team with the bragging
rights because they would have the victorybell. But ultimately, it's a sad

(01:26:21):
day locally for college football realistically. But there are a lot of UC fans
that have right, you know, rightfully said from their perspective, get rid
of it. It doesn't serve Cincinnatiany good anymore. I always kind of
hate that. I understand it,but I kind of hate that because you

(01:26:43):
know, for the longest time,Miami did dominate the rivalry, and it
kind of reeks a little bit ifwe want to take our ball and go
home, and then you know, the tables flipped last season, But we
have to get used to it.College sports is changed. It is nothing

(01:27:04):
like it was ten years ago, much less forget twenty thirty, forty years
ago. College sports is not whatit was five years ago. The entire
landscape has shifted, and it's shiftingmore and more and more in rapid fashion.

(01:27:25):
And unfortunately that means games like Miamiand Cincinnati, a series of one
hundred and twenty seven games, youknow, a century and a quarter plus
of history is going to go bythe wayside. Thoughts, concerns, Do

(01:27:45):
you like it? Do you notlike it? Can you let me know
on Twitter at Chad Brendle, Youcan give us a call five one,
three, seven, four, nine, fifteen thirty. And if you want
to go see the Big Three, you gotta get to say. I know
we're getting We're getting right. I'mgetting right to that. Let's let's get
these tickets, uh to the BigThree trivia? Do you want to open
the phone lines now and then dothe trivia when we come back from the

(01:28:06):
break. Yeah, we just needto we need to guess two participants,
two participants five one, three, seven, four nine, fifteen thirty.
We will give away these tickets tothe Big Three with some trivia right after
this Cincinnati's ESPN fifteen thirty. Cincinnati'sESPNIXA rolling right along again. You want

(01:28:33):
these Big Three tickets, give usa call. Five one, three,
seven, fifteen thirty. It's ait's a fun product. It's a it's
guys you will remember former NBA guys, Guys that that you know you've enjoyed
watching over the years playing basketball intown. But give us a call,

(01:28:55):
answer some trivia. Uh, thethe versus NCAAK settlement has been submitted.
This is crazy, Terran. Sothey basically like scholarship limits were increased across
the board for every sport. YeI seen it. Football now goes from

(01:29:16):
eighty five scholarships to one hundred andfive scholarships, which I think is for
teams like you see as disastrous Terran. Yes, the reason that they're at
eighty five to begin with is becauseteams like Ohio State and Michigan and Alabama
and Georgia and so on, we'remaxing as many players as they could take

(01:29:38):
and then just churning through them.Relentlessly, and I guess you can.
You can get them in the transferportal later. But man, it's gonna
make it tough for the middle classin high school recruiting because now if there's
a kid Ohio State's on the fencewith, they don't really have to make
a decision. They just will takehim, figure it out, and if

(01:30:00):
not, we'll cut him. Basketballincreases by two from thirteen to fifteen.
I don't think that's going to havea large impact on basketball overall. But
the good news is, I guessif you're a baseball guy baseball, I
don't know how many people know this, Like an entire baseball team, they

(01:30:23):
would have eleven scholarships to work withfor like an entire thirty five forty man
baseball team, and they had todivide them up into like, all right,
you get twelve percent scholarship, andyou get fourteen percent scholarship, and
now you can go all the wayout to the new limit of thirty four,
which is an increase of twenty twopoint three percent. So it's pretty

(01:30:48):
wild, but it's if you wereif you're like Stanford. Stanford's one of
those schools that has almost every sportI think they get like fifty sixty sports
in Stanford's athletic department. If theywere to max out all of their scholarships,
it would be an increase of sevenhundred and fifty two scholarships across all

(01:31:10):
other sports. There is talk thatcould raise the cost of this is the
other thing that's crazy to me,Tarran, is that the school makes the
athletic department reimburse them for scholarships insteadof letting the student athletes like go for
free, like eighty five football players. The school comes looking for their check

(01:31:38):
every year for eighty five scholarships, which, of course the athletic departments.
You know what the athletic departments do, right, Terran. They call the
boosters and say, hey, wouldyou like to represent a scholarship and you
can pay for timmy linebacker every year, timmy linebacker. Did you know that's

(01:32:00):
part of it? Did you knowthat's how that works? Yeah? Yeah.
The school has to the athletic departmenthas to reimburse the school for every
athletic scholarship, and they they muchlike nil, much like building a new
stadium, you know, much likeeverything that happens in college athletics. They
then call the boosters or the donorsand say, hey, we're going to

(01:32:24):
need you to pay for this. It's a wild deal. It's a what
And the schools are the one makingyou know, in the in the power
for anywhere from fifty to one hundredmillion dollars a year, and they're still
like, well, yeah, butwe can't pay for that. I maybe

(01:32:45):
I'm crazy. I just think theschool should absorb, especially like football,
basketball, women's basketball, like thingsthat generate revenue that should be taken care
of by the school. Those feesshould be waived, especially a place like
Cincinnati's got fifty thousand students, Like, you know, two hundred scholarships are
really going to affect your bottom linethat much. I guess what the cost

(01:33:08):
of college it probably is. AnyWho, Oh, let's see trying to figure
out. Let let let's go aheadand take a break. We'll get one
more segment and we'll talk to Tonyand then uh, we'll see if our
our final guest of the day joinsus at the end of the show.

(01:33:30):
So let's take a break. We'llgo over reds and UH and raise and
then we'll go from there. Moreafter this. Since aety's ESPN fifteen thirty,
Big soo the peg. What's uploadon Windows out of frame is the
party win? A pull up bigbig soo the peg. What's the upload
on Windows out of frame is aparty win? A pull up big soo

(01:33:54):
peg. What's upload on Windows outof frame is a party winn to pull
up big big so beg with framesrolling right along Sincnati's ESPN fifteen thirty.
For me, this my mini mane. Anything I want to get the phone
we'll talk about. The Reds havesigned two picks from the twenty twenty four

(01:34:17):
MLB draft, shortstop Tyson Lewis waspicked in the second round, and Edgar
Cologne, who was picked in roundeleven transaction for the Reds. Today,
TJ. Friedel is back off ofthe ten day injured list. They have
optioned outfielder Reese Hines back to Louisville. First pitch tonight six fifty. Nick

(01:34:42):
Lidolo on the hill for the Reds. Here is your Reds line up.
India at second, Dela Cruz atshort Steer at first, Friedel in center
field, Candelario the designated hitter TylerStevenson behind the dish. Frehleian right No
Helby Marte at third and Will Bensongets the start in left. Also a

(01:35:09):
little bit of Bengals news as theyhave made a couple signings. They have
signed free agent cornerback Nate Brooks, free agent wide receiver at Keem Butler,
and punter Ryan Recou. That's mybest guess, Ryan Recou. The the

(01:35:40):
the Bengals Chase stuff? Am Iwrong? Tarren? Like? What?
What? What is? What isZach Taylor? What are the Bengals gain?
I know they're trying to quote unquoteprotect Jamar Chase, but don't didn't
they make it worse? Didn't theymake all of this even more of a
story because instead of just saying, you know, Jamar, Jamar's holding out,

(01:36:03):
or Jamar's working on some things withthe front office, they set Jamar
up to fail here by saying he'sgonna be like he's just being worked into
it. You know, T's gonnawork into it. There's gonna be some
days he misses. Joe's gonna workinto it. There's gonna be some days
he misses. They try to justlump Jamar in there, and now you're

(01:36:26):
at three days and Jamar hasn't practiced. I bet good money. He doesn't
practice Sunday. And now you're intoweek two of camp and Jamar Smith is
not Jamar Chase is very clearly notbeing eased into anything. He's holding out,
which is part of business. AndI think football fans are smart enough
to understand that. But when youtreat your fan base like they're stupid,

(01:36:49):
then you get Adam Schefter coming overthe top and saying it's it's not that.
Say say what you want to say, but my sources are telling me
it's not that, and then yougot this whole It becomes this whole thing.
Am I wrong here? Taren No, I don't understand why. I

(01:37:10):
don't understand why, why we continueto do this and we haven't learned the
easiest way is just to be ashonest and possible as possible. Are there
times that you can't divulge every pieceof information. Sure, I've been doing
this for a long time. Iunderstand that completely. There's always hey,

(01:37:30):
let's you know, let's let's massagethis, or let's let's you know,
kind of go kid gloves on thispart of the story. But if you
flat out are dishonest, which iswhat they were, let's just call a
spade a spade. They were dishonest. Yeah. A perfect example is Cincinnati

(01:37:53):
with Dante Corleon. They were ashonest as could be. They could have
not said anything, not said aword until we got to higher ground or
you know, camp started next week, we go to that first practice,
Dante's not practicing. Ah, he'sjust working on some stuff. He's working

(01:38:15):
through something. He'll be back soon. But instead they got out ahead of
it. Dante's got a medical condition. This is what we can tell you.
This is as much as we cantell you. He's working hard to
go through the process, and youknow, God willing, he'll be on
the field in twenty twenty four. There were no questions, there was no

(01:38:42):
shroud of secrecy. It was here'sthe situation. We are doing our best
to handle the situation. Dante isin good spirits. We're going to do
our best. Like we'll find out. Instead, you have just created something
that's not gonna go away throughout thiscamp. You have created a storyline that's

(01:39:05):
gonna have to be asked about constantly. The only thing that's gonna make this
story die now is if there's anannouncement that Jamar Chase gets a contract extension
and guess what Mike Brown already toldeverybody. That's not happening until next offseason.
We already know that. I justdon't get it. I just don't

(01:39:30):
understand this need to play games withyour customer base, this need to play
games with the people that fill thestadium, with the people that you know,
buy the shirts and support the Bengalsin every way possible. If you
thought it was protecting Jamar, youread the room wrong. It's not protecting

(01:39:57):
Jamar. It's creating more of afire storm because you didn't tell anybody what
was actually going on. We'll talkto Tony Pike one more time right after
this, since Naty's ESPN fifteen thirty. Hey, it's Maagger, hope to
see you. This is a trainingcamp report brooked to you by Skyline Chili
feeling good. It's Skyline Clive Onesand fifteen thirty, the official home of

(01:40:21):
the Bengals. Here we go,cruising through the five o'clock hour on a
Friday. Let's go back down topay Course Stadium or somewhere near pay Corpse
Stadium as practice ended a little overa while ago, so he's probably not
still standing out on the practice field, and if you did that would be

(01:40:42):
awkward. Let's go to Tony Pike. Tony three days of camp or in
the books an off day tomorrow, right, not a whole lot of activity
today. But what would other thanJamar Chase. We covered that at four
o'clock. Other than Jamar Chase, what would you say is the biggest observation
from camp so far? I wouldsay that there is good production from the

(01:41:04):
young wide receivers. Jermaine Burton Ithink has had a good start to his
first NFL training camp. I thinkit's interesting they've used Burton in more of
the role you would see for JamarChase. They've used him in the backfield,
they've used in motion, they've usedhim with the swing pass, more
of what we've kind of seen JamarChase do over the years. And in

(01:41:25):
lieu of that, they've used andreyoshivash more in the slot. He's been
all slot all week and I thinkhe's taken to it really well. Now.
The difference of the slot for Yoshibasthis year, it's not the routes,
it's not the offense, it's themental side, because when you slide
from outside to inside in the slot, you now become an extension of the

(01:41:47):
quarterback in the old line, right, you need to know the protections,
and with the protections, you betterknow. Okay, if these guys blitz,
that means I've got to adjust myroute. If this happens, I've
got to change this. You're alsoreally on to be that third and short
and fourth and short guy like ToymanBoyd was for so many years. And
I know it's only three days in, and I know there's been no pads,
and I know it's it's not beena lot of elaborate stuff from the

(01:42:11):
defense. But I think I thinkthose two receivers who are battling for that
wide receiver three slot, I thinkit's been a good week for them.
I think it's been a really goodweek for Mike HSICKI. I think he
has flashed in multiple ways and reallyshowing what the value he can have on
this roster is going to be.Uh. But the next time you talk
to me, you won't be me. MO comes back to work load management

(01:42:32):
June in July. I believe endson Monday when you talk to Mo,
what do you think the story willbe? As as they put pads on,
as we as we start to seethe defense get a little bit more
active and and you know, thingslook a little bit more like football.
Well, they will have practiced Sundayevening, so we'll know again whether there's

(01:42:55):
been any update in the Jamar Chasesituation. Uh, how long is Cam
Taylor Britt gonna ultimately miss due tohis consoles being removed? Because it's a
secondary that obviously needs Cam Taylor Brittto get out there and get some reps
as well. When pads go onthe defensive line against the offensive line.
That's always my first view at camp. Miles Murphy year two, what's that

(01:43:16):
look like? Sam Hubbard healthy? Is Trent Brown going to be practicing yet?
How can a Marius Men's hold upas a rookie going against a Trey
Hendrickson or or or Miles Murphy orthings like that. So give me the
physical side, give me real football, real trench battles. Ideally Joe Burrow
practicing and and seeing how his progressionis from week one to week two.

(01:43:40):
All right, Ton was it wasa good week one. I was.
I was honored to be in thischair to usher in the start of camp
and take it easy on Mo whenhe's in this chair on Monday, Chad,
Thank you, man, I appreciateyou. So there you go.
That's Tony Pike down at pay CourseStadium at the practice fields giving us all

(01:44:03):
of the details as we get donewith the third day of Bengals training camp
and a lot going on this weekend. Got the music festival downtown. You've
got a red reds Rays series thatis not in town, is in Tampa

(01:44:24):
Bay. But we now have aguest that I've I'm not gonna lie.
I've maybe waited the majority of mylife to talk to this man. I
have one important question for him thatwe will get to in a moment.
But owner of the Big Three, the CEO International Global Superstar ice Cube.

(01:44:45):
Ice Cube, Welcome to Cincinnati's ESPNfifteen thirty. Yeah, yeah, week
not much man, just getting almostdone. We got about ten minutes left
in my Friday, so I'm readyto get out of here. But here's
my one question. I've wanted toask you most of my life. If
Mama cooked the breakfast with no hog, was it really a good day?

(01:45:06):
It was a great day, man. You know you get breakfast, Okay,
okay, I'll buy the steak andegg breakfast. I'm just if I'm
thinking breakfast, I'm thinking bacon, some sausage without you know. So it
always bothered me, like, well, that's not a great breakfast if there
was no hog. But if there'sa steak, all right, you got
me, you got me. BigThree coming to Cincinnati. Uh, two,

(01:45:30):
one guy is still involved. You'vehad two guys, two Bearcats that
have been heavily involved in Big Threeover the years. James White and h
and Jamar Johnson. Tell the peopleof Cincinnati what they can expect attending the
Big Three. Oh, you know, just great action, the game played
the way it's supposed to be played. People love how hard, uh and

(01:45:54):
physical the game is in the BigThree. And the guys really want to
win. I think that's really team. You know, sometimes you watch in
the NBA, they getting paid, someone's running. You don't even know if
the guys really want to win.And you don't have to worry about that
with the Big Three, because youknow, these guys are ballers. You're
not getting paid millions, you know, getting paid a nice, nice chunk

(01:46:16):
of change. But uh, theyplay to win. And I think the
fans really appreciated the five games forthe price of one. Can't beat that
with a stick. And uh,all the games have big stakes. Yeah,
Uh, how have you evolved theleague? We're we're in year seven
now, I believe, Uh.And how is the style of play the

(01:46:40):
players that you're looking for and recruiting, uh, bringing into the league.
How have things maybe changed and evolvedas as you guys get through you know,
the the later part of the firstdecade of the Big Three. Well,
you know, I think you know, everybody really know what to expect.
Now, you know, when you'restarting to lead, nobody kind of

(01:47:00):
knows what to expect. We spentabout seven years calibrating the game, and
you know, making sure that itwas fun to play for the players and
fun to watch for the fans. And you know, I just think,
you know, everything is clicking onall cylinders. You know, the players,
they know how to how to playthe game a three on three,

(01:47:25):
which is extremely personal kind of monoymano, and coaches know how to win with
our rules. So the strategy youknow, comes in and play and you
know, it's fun to see thegame evolving into something that people love to

(01:47:45):
look forward to them the summer.I'm curious if somebody would have told you
in the late nineteen eighties that thatyou would be the owner of a sports
league. You would have, youknow, a plethora of hit movies.
Dre would have billion dollars and Snoopwould be in Paris, uh holding the
Olympic flame. What would you havetold them in the nineteen eighties if they

(01:48:08):
told you that, I'll be excellent? What you're smoking? Man? Can
I have some? Yeah? Youknow, it's just been a you know,
an amazing career, and you know, the opportunities present themselves, and
as you see, you know, people like me Drace New you know,

(01:48:30):
we go for it, and uh, it's cool that we can do it
because usually come up with some coolstuff that everybody like. We listened to
it here all the time as bumpermusic. But uh, Mount Wesmore,
how fun was that project to do? Getting getting to work with those guys
and and you know, kind ofreigniting some of that old school West Coast
flame. You know, there's dreamteam kind of stuff. You know,

(01:48:55):
you see you see the USA teamwith it with all the stars on me.
You know, everybody just you know, have to don't have to do
it all. You just gotta youknow, do a little bit to make
it work, and so it's fun. You know, you know that the
projects won't be special when you've gotyou know, some of the biggest names

(01:49:15):
in the game on the same record. So I had a lot of fun
making that record, a lot morefun hanging out with those dudes. Yeah,
I can only imagine I've enjoyed listeningto hip hop since the mid eighties.
Were you ever surprised how much It'sprobably not a surprise listening to me.

(01:49:35):
I was a white kid from theBurbs at that point in time,
but how much your music kind ofgot into that world. And I'm sure
you weren't expecting it when you wereputting NWA together, that you know,
we're gonna have a bunch of whitekids in Ohio and Kentucky listening to the
music. I mean, we washoping because you know, we had seen

(01:50:00):
uh, you know, groups likethe Beastie Boys come out and and really
open wrap up to you know,a whole new audience, and so you
know, we we came kind ofon the tail end of that, and
so we knew that there was awide audience out there. If we if
we you know, hit the rightnotes, so to speak, and uh,

(01:50:24):
it happened for us, so youknow we glad it did. You've
got a show coming up in Cincinnatiin September as well, I believe,
right, Yeah, yeah, sowe'll be We're gonna do this Big three
thing on Sunday, but then we'llbe back September and you know, get
a chance to perform a Cincinnati again. It's gonna be fun. Any good

(01:50:46):
Cincinnati memories or I imagine you haven'tbeen here a whole bunch, not a
whole bunch. I remember coming thereand then in the eighties we had to
come meet with the mayor before wecan play and play the gig. I
think the police chased the side ofhere too once or twice. So you

(01:51:09):
know, Cincinnati is definitely seared inmy mind. Hey, would you probably
just missed because right before that,Jerry Springer would have been the mayor and
that probably would have went a lotbetter. Maybe you never know it was
a football player as a mayor.I think it was an ex Bengal.
Yeah, get his name back, could dude sixty seven. But uh,

(01:51:31):
he was cool. You know,he let us play My My, My
producer. Terren's got one question aswell before we let you go. Thank
you. I know last year inthe in the Big Three All Star Game,
you had Jen Jaylen Brown show upand show out and come play for
you guys. It's and he talksabout any another current NBA player joining you.
This year we a celebrity game, not yet, you know, but

(01:51:54):
as we get closer. You know, some of these guys usually hit us
up. But you know, we'llsee a lot of guys. Are you
know, in Paris as well,so you never know you're gonna make it
to the Olympics. You're on tourright now, aren't you. Yeah,
yea. I'm in Kansas City tonight, got another Shawn Missouri tomorrow. Then

(01:52:18):
I'll be in Saint Louis. Imean, I say, a little Cincinnati.
Sorry about that being saying white thehell I am, but I mean
on Sunday, we appreciate it.Man, tell everybody how to get down
to the Big Three. This weekend. Hey man, you know, just
come check us out. I thinkit's herri Attage Bank Arena. I believe

(01:52:41):
that's what it's called. And comecheck us out. Man. You know
pro basketball back in Cincinnati, youknow, uh, maybe some of the
people there put a team there permanentlyand you get a chance to see Big
three for other So come check usout to Sunday and uh definitely gonna have
fun and uh steak and eggs isthe answer. That's how you have a

(01:53:03):
breakfast with no hog. You justgo get a nice big ribbi. Yeah
wherebye? You know, knocked thathang out. Appreciate it, man,
Thank you so much. Oy yay, take it easy, see you signed
it. Well, there you go, Tarren. I'm done. I don't

(01:53:25):
have to do radio ever again. That's it for me, perfect way into
Friday. I got a yay yayfrom ice Cube, and I hope no
can find a suitable backup, asuitable fill in from here on out,
because I think that's the end ofmy radio career. I know we usually
in with two one, three, but I got it. I love it

(01:53:45):
all right. That's gonna wrap itup. I'm Chad Brenda. He's Tarren
Bland. That was ice Cube tomy Leggers show Cincinnati's ESPN fifteen thirty right
did not so everything is propping.I got stand the spin on the head,
so let the games beget it.He kept don't talk back do as

(01:54:09):
song coming up thrown on the Cartonnaten just got out of court bulling through
the head and the sequen sport uppingtoo short. Take two kept a real
a few minutes, try breaking andkeep this dating. You know how we
do what ain't nothing to it butthe flocks on the crowd. Teverson work
because if you're with as release startsout at you, right, coars looking

(01:54:32):
like stars, right getting the highwayon the player's run foot because it's right,
