Speaker 1 (00:01):
Well, you know what I'll do. I'll I mean, he
tweeted about three hours ago. That was his most recent tweet.
Bearcat Journal is running its the biggest sale of the
year to celebrate. Join now we get seventy five percent
off of full year, the best Bearcats coverage in the market.
That's me reading the tweet from Chad join him Aircat
journal dot com. Was that your fifth attempt tarn Yes?

Speaker 2 (00:24):
And he he just texted me like literally ten minutes ago.

Speaker 1 (00:27):
Did he say I'm not coming on?

Speaker 2 (00:30):
No, he just wanted to the firm that we four
four twenty.

Speaker 1 (00:32):
All right, Chad, if you are listening, your your our
phone calls are going right to voicemail.

Speaker 2 (00:38):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (00:38):
And you know this isn't a podcast. This is a
live show. You know that this. I love podcasts, but
like if it was a podcast, you know, they they
can hit pause in the record button, go and get
a cup of coffee and sit around again. Now we go, okay,
start recording, and we don't. This isn't one of those things.
This is live. So in the absence of Chad, we'll talk.

(01:02):
If anybody knows where Chad Brendle is, tell him he's uh,
he's late for his radio hit on ESPN fifteen thirty.
Thank you, Our APB has been answered. Chad, are you okay?
Everything all right?

Speaker 2 (01:16):
Yeah? I'm buying. My phone would not connect. I don't know.
It was weird.

Speaker 1 (01:22):
Well, hopefully you are here. You are here speaking of
the inability to connect. Hopefully we don't see that from
Brendan Soresby and his wide receivers and tight ends when
the Bearcats play Townsend on Saturday, Like, how I did that?

Speaker 2 (01:35):
I see what you did there that that's very impressive
Rado radioing. And I hope to live up to your
lofty standard tomorrow.

Speaker 1 (01:42):
Yeah, you're in for me tomorrow. I think the Bearcats
are going to be okay in Big twelve play and
by okay, I think better than people think. Am I
out of my mind?

Speaker 2 (01:53):
I don't think you're out of your mind. I think
the possibility is certainly there. I think I still am
in a in a place where I want to see
it first. Maybe the scars from last year are still
very visible, and uh, you know, I'd like to see
a little bit more proof. But watching this team, and

(02:16):
you know, I was at every practice but one that
was open to the media, you know, since things started
back in the beginning of the end of July, beginning
of August. They look more competent that they look faster,
They look more you know, athletic, they have more size,
you know, some of the things that we're very concerning

(02:38):
in year one in the Big Twelve. It feels like
they answered some of those questions that should lead to
better results and hopefully a situation where at the end
of the year this team is not you know, completely
beat up and crawling. They weren't limping to the finish
line last year. Now they were crawling to the finish line.

(02:59):
David and I talked about this on the bcjpod last night.
Like Guy West Virginia game was about as bad as
I remember in terms of watching a team that just
physically pardon my friends, Gottir askint and hopefully they have
put enough measures in place that they do not end
up in any of those situations in twenty twenty four.

Speaker 1 (03:21):
I also the league itself. There are gonna be games
where they're underdogs. They're gonna be games they lose. The
league itself just doesn't scare me. Like I go week
by week and I just I know I did a
similar exercise last year. But if the team is better
and the league is worse, but that tells me there
are some games that can be won. I just don't

(03:42):
see that many games where I'm like, oh my god,
they can't win that one.

Speaker 2 (03:45):
And I.

Speaker 1 (03:47):
Didn't feel quite the same last year, and I shouldn't have.
I just I don't think that much of twenty twenty
four Big twelve football, specifically as it relates to the
Cincinnati schedule.

Speaker 2 (03:59):
Well, fortunately, that's what happens when your team doesn't play
four of the top five teams in the conference like
preseason polright, So looking at it, it doesn't feel I mean,
we were we did the exercise last night, or we
went through every game on the schedule, and you know
a lot of the times you're looking and it's like, well,

(04:19):
this team has Kansas, Kansas State, and Arizona in the
three games leading up to Cincinnati, and you know, this
team has Utah and you know whatever, and like Cincinnati
doesn't really have that. Like I'm with you in the
fact that I don't look other than you know, in
aims in the little Apple back to back weeks in November,

(04:43):
there's no chance in hell or winning either of those games,
right right, But other than that, I don't look at
it and think, man like they're just gonna have to
get out live in this stretch or that stretch. There's
winnable games sprinkled a little bit of every everywhere. Right.
You know, I'm a little less sure about winning at

(05:04):
Texas Tech than than maybe you are. But you certainly
should beat Houston and Arizona State at home. You certainly
do have a chance to go to Colorado and win.
There are just more things on this schedule that seem
manageable than than what they went through last year.

Speaker 1 (05:26):
Are you suggesting Are you suggesting that they could beat
the team coached by his excellency Dion Sanders, and that
maybe maybe that the Buffaloes won't go undefeated.

Speaker 2 (05:38):
Go look at their schedule leading up to Cincinnati, like
they're either going to be on top of the world
or oh boy, oh boy, Like you know, I don't,
I don't mind. Like if you look at what that
the reporter had said consistently like he was trying to

(05:58):
start a fight. Sure, you're trying to start and I'm
I know a little bit about trying to start fights
with words. When you're trying to start a fight, don't
be surprised when somebody says, okay, let's fight, like you
know that. That's kind of my my take on that.
But it's a little soft. I mean, you know, it

(06:21):
doesn't make a whole lot of Like you're Dion Sanders,
you know, there's other ways that it could have been
done than the way that it was handled. However, like
I said, if you're a sports writer and you you
want to take your keyboard, it's not a pen anymore.
Nobody uses pens anymore. You want to take your keyboard
and get into a fight, don't be surprised when somebody

(06:43):
punches you like that. You know that's that's the way
that goes. But I mean, their schedule through the first
half of the season is really tough, really tough, including tonight,
Like tonight is not this want to not be as
good as North Dakota State has been. But they're they're
not bad at all. And the biggest thing Dave hit

(07:04):
the nail on the head with it last night. They've
they're six and one against that thes opponents in their
last seven games. They ain't scared, so that one's gonna
be interesting. Cincinnati can win that game, and especially if
Colorado is struggling at that point in time, where is
the narrative going to be and how does that benefit

(07:27):
the Bearcats.

Speaker 1 (07:28):
I'm with you there, all right, I'm glad. I'm glad
you answered the call. I know you have to who
what can we look forward to tomorrow?

Speaker 2 (07:36):
Well, I was, I was thinking about having a bunch
of experts on and then I remembered, I'm an expert.
I'm gonna have me in studio, all right, So I'm
gonna I'm gonna spend a segment talking about the bear
segment talking about the Bearcats offense, what people can expect,
to spend a segment talking about the Bearcats defense and

(07:56):
what people can expect. I'm gonna spend a segment maybe
talking about Scott Saddersfield. Yeah, and where this thing is
at a lot of people are very antsy the shove
Scott Saderfield out of town. If they went seven games,
I ended up at seven and five last night. I
thought I was going to go to six and six.
I ended up at seven and five. Did they go

(08:18):
seven and five? How much does the narrative change?

Speaker 1 (08:20):
I think I think everybody was. Yeah, I was so
like I asked this because I think a lot of
folks go, you know what, they got to go six
and six, and I I'm sort of six and six,
seven and five. I'm a little bit more sure that
they're going to be pick than I was, and so
I'm leaving seven and five. So but a lot of
folks will you know, a lot of folks have said, well,

(08:42):
if they get to six and six that is a
successful season, then fine, you know, that's double their win
total from last year, Bowl eligible, all that awesome. I
guess what I would want to know is, if they
go six and six, is someone who is skeptical about
Scott Sadderfield going to be won over? And I don't
think the answer is yet, Yes, I.

Speaker 2 (09:02):
Agree somebody that's skeptical. Look, do you know how it
works these days? We you develop a take, you say
your take, and then you cannot You're not allowed to
ever back off of that take, and you have to
take it to the grave.

Speaker 1 (09:15):
Right. But like, and it's not apples and apples by
any stretch. Luke Fickle goes four and eight and came
this close to going one and eleven. By year two,
he had won over skeptics. I mean I'm sure your
message board after year one was filled with, if not
people who wanted to fire him, at least folks were
like man ow Shure. And then by year two he

(09:35):
had won everybody over. There wasn't there wasn't a soul
who was like, God, you know what, I'm not sure.
I don't think a season is I don't think they're
capable of having the sort of season that's going to
make people do that.

Speaker 2 (09:46):
And so if I'm right, Luke won ten games right year,
Scott Taderfield wins ten games this year, right, somebody's going to,
you know, be overjoyed.

Speaker 1 (09:55):
So that's my thing. Are they are they within reach?
Is it? Is it attainable to have the sort of
season where you go, you know what, not only did
they win enough games, but now I feel really good?
You know what, Cunningham got it right with this coach.
Scott Sadderfield's the guy. I don't know that that's I
don't know that that's gonna happen. I think you're gonna
have a lot of people who are like, yeah, they

(10:16):
made progress.

Speaker 2 (10:17):
Cool.

Speaker 1 (10:17):
I'm still not sure he's the guy that may be fair,
may it may not be fair, but I don't know
that they're really capable of having this sort of season
that's gonna take the sadderfield skeptic and win them, win
him over.

Speaker 2 (10:28):
No, I don't know that two seasons of success. Again.
You make your take, you state your take on the internet,
now you put it on Twitter, and then you can
never waiver from what your initial did. This guy's thanksful.
Then he stinks forever, it doesn't matter what happens. So
there's gonna be a lot of that. The problem is
mo Like, there's a lot of pressure early mm hmm,

(10:51):
Pitt Miami. There's a lot of pressure early, Yeah, because
there's no chance he's gonna be fired. No, but if
they lose to Miami again, the die is cast at
that point in time, regardless of what he does. So

(11:11):
you know that part's going to be interesting. But then
if you can get some wins and you can you
can build some momentum, then maybe you can get you
know that that back. The last four games of the
season are our time. Yeah, so you're gonna have to
You're gonna have to do your damage in the first
eight and then hope you've got you know, things rolling
towards the back half. But I don't think too many

(11:36):
people are going to change their mind regardless of what happens,
barring the unforeseen, which coach nine ten wins and I
don't see it.

Speaker 1 (11:43):
Right, which coach faces more pressure to win against a
traditional rival, Scott's Saddlefield against Miami or West Miller again.

Speaker 2 (11:51):
Xavier, Ooh, that's a good one though. That's why you
do this full time and I only do it part time.

Speaker 1 (11:58):
Well, when you do that, when you do that podcast,
I'll come on as a guest.

Speaker 2 (12:05):
Hopefully we don't hopelly Scott Scott Saderfield beats Miami and
we don't have to really worry about it.

Speaker 1 (12:09):
But I mean, like, did you look ahead to basketball?
And I'm a little bit short on time here, but
but like that's that's a thing, you know, that's.

Speaker 2 (12:17):
A sure we all sticks. Wes has builtmore goodwill, sure,
I think, yeah, yeah than Scott Saderfield has at this point, right,
what would this be six in a row?

Speaker 1 (12:29):
Uh? Yeah? And and four for Wes. I mean I
think he'd be the first to admit, like I kind
of I got him at home this year. I have
what I is easily my best team, Like I'm I
don't want Zavier fans to take this the wrong way,
like you're you're supposed to win that game.

Speaker 2 (12:44):
You're at home. Yeah, you've lost three in a row, right, Yeah. Yeah,
So the conversation would definitely not be as happy as
it is right now if they don't win the shootout.

Speaker 1 (12:55):
Yep, we're on the same page. I uh, ever, you've
seen uh Rocky.

Speaker 2 (13:00):
Three, Yes, many moons ago, but yes, Rocky three.

Speaker 1 (13:06):
Uh. Apollo trains Rocky and he says to him, because
Rocky's gonna fight Clever Lang at the end of this,
I'm gonna ask a favor, and he keeps referencing it
and and Rocky is like, what favor? And he doesn't
tell him. I have an off air favor to ask you,
but I'm not going to tell you what it is until.

Speaker 2 (13:27):
Saturday, not even off air.

Speaker 1 (13:28):
No, I'm gonna tell you when I see you Saturday.

Speaker 2 (13:31):
Okay, I have a favorite, as I guess.

Speaker 1 (13:35):
So now now you have two days to wonder what's
that could be a show topic tomorrow? What's the favorite
that Mo wants? What is the favorite?

Speaker 2 (13:44):
Yeah, I've got I've got three cases of an alcohol
it's not even out yet, Mo.

Speaker 1 (13:51):
Yeah, I do. But that's not the favor. Okay, all right,
I'll see you Saturday. I beat Don't Bearcatcher the duck.
We are way late. I was gonna do the sports
headlines like a sports anchor, but I don't have time.
Now I have to like zip through. Maybe five thirty three,
Tony Pike will join us, and we have Brennemant and

(14:12):
Jones on baseball on ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station,
Cincinnati's ESPN fifteen thirty. Traffic from the UC Health Traffic
