Speaker 1 (00:04):
All right, it's fourteen away from four o'clock. This is
ESPN fifteen thirty. Is Chad. Chad's there? I see Chad
on hold on two different lines, all Chad. When we
call Chad, it's going to voicemail, straight to voicemail. Wow,
well here, you know what, I'll just I'll see if
I'll see if I can call him. I'll try to
(00:26):
use our phone system. I'll see if I could figure
this out. This is live radio. See, if we were
doing like a podcast, we would just stop, we would
not be recording and then we you know, chase down
the person. But you know, we were doing this live.
This is like by the seat of our pants. There's
the thing. I hit dial. I'm on line eight. Hello, Hey,
(00:49):
there he is. Hi Chad, Chad, you're on the radio
right now. What's going on?
Speaker 2 (00:53):
I'm out? Is my phone not working yet?
Speaker 1 (00:55):
It was going right to voicemail. Liam was trying to
dial you and it wasn't working. But I did it
here directed now here we are.
Speaker 2 (01:02):
Well, I'm glad to be here.
Speaker 1 (01:06):
Brendel bearkhead Journal dot com on x at Chad Brendel.
What was the biggest takeaway from the victory over the
Miami Renhawks last.
Speaker 2 (01:14):
Week that they won the game, and I don't didn't
have to deal with listening to people complain about they're
not winning the game. More than anything, MO, I think
as we enter Big twelve play, I feel a lot
more confident about the number of guys that I I
(01:36):
am pretty confident saying our Big twelve level, like the
higher Big twelve level players, not like, you know, above
replacement level. We like that term these days, right, Brendan Soursby,
Joe roy Er, Xavier Henderson, Corey Kiner, you know, Luke Candra,
(01:57):
Jared Bartlett, Derek Canteen, like Jordan Young. I think there's
a bunch of guys now. I feel comfortable going into
Big twelve plays saying they got a bunch of guys
that I think can compete at a pretty high level
in this conference. Does I mean they're gonna, you know,
win the conference. No, that's not what I'm saying. I'm
(02:17):
saying it's a much larger number than it felt like
a season ago.
Speaker 1 (02:23):
I think they've played well. I'll kind of throw away
bits and pieces of the Townson game, but I think
they've played well essentially for ten out of twelve quarters,
maybe nine and a half out of twelve quarters.
Speaker 2 (02:35):
So that's the majority.
Speaker 1 (02:36):
If what I have seen from the majority of the
time in the first three games is what I see
the majority of the time over the course of the
next nine Big Twelve games, they should win their fair share, correct,
I think so?
Speaker 2 (02:49):
I do I somewhat take exception to something I heard
you say yesterday, Oh, that the Big Twelve is down. Yeah,
I think it's right. I don't. I think it's right
about where I expected it to be. I did not
expect it to have a team that you know, was
in the top five, necessarily in the top ten of
(03:12):
the college football rankings. There's still five, six, seven teams
at the top of this conference that I think are
pretty good. The bottom is nowhere near as bad as
some of the other leagues that I'm looking at. Hello
Mississippi State, Hello Florida State. Like you know, I look around,
and I think it's right about where I expected the
(03:32):
Big Twelve. I maybe agree with you if you said
Cincinnati's schedule portion of the Big Twelve not great, and
I think that hopefully is a good thing for UC.
Speaker 1 (03:47):
Yeah, I mean, it's maybe not down the league top
to bottom there's not a team that jumps off the page,
and that doesn't mean there aren't very good teams. That
doesn't mean they aren't very good teams. I could could
make a run in the college football playoff, but I
think specifically when you focus on who UC does and
doesn't play, like there are two games, I'm not exactly
(04:07):
thrilled with the rest of them. I think they have
a puncher's chance, and some more so than others, including
obviously this Saturday. But I don't know, man, I'm a
little bit more glass half full than I think a
lot of people are who are still, perhaps justifiably so,
stewing over the Pittsburgh game.
Speaker 2 (04:25):
Yeah, and I get it, like that was you can't
lose that game. That was just watching it slip away,
was just watching a car parked on like the train
tracks and just waiting for the train to come. Like
once pitt got rolling, it was like, oh no, this
is not And then they get to stop on the
two point conversion and you're like, all right, maybe they
(04:48):
can hang on. Then they get the second two point
conversion stop and you're like, surely they're not going to
let get the ball back again and score for the
fourth time in a row, and then that happened and
you're walking off the field on boy, there's a whole
lot that just got flushed down the drain. That was
so positive for most of that game. Hopefully. You know,
(05:12):
Houston's not very I mean they're okay, They're not good.
I think they're getting better. I think is a good
way to describe where they are at going into their
fourth game under Willie Fritz, because I think we all
agree he's a pretty good coach. I don't know what
to think of Texas Tech. I have no clue. They've
scored a bunch of points in two of three games.
(05:33):
Washington State kind of played keep away from them and
they couldn't score at all. Arizona State We're gonna find
out a lot about this weekend. I think they've been
a surprise, but I don't love them, Like, yeah, there's
you know, ucf might run for seven hundred yards against
the tea times like honestly by R. J. Harvey might
(05:57):
be one of the top five most fun players to watch,
and that brings my soul a great deal of pain
to say something nice about.
Speaker 1 (06:04):
UC Yeah, they just played Miami and it was a
different type of battle for the victory bell right, Like
everybody leaned into it. It took them losing last year,
I think for a lot of a lot of UC players,
but I think a lot of fans sort of lean
into the rivalry. And you've talked about this a lot.
There's one more scheduled game remaining. I wouldn't mind a
(06:27):
resumption of this that was every few years. It feels
to me like there's a pretty good chance that that
ends up being the case.
Speaker 2 (06:34):
Correct according to my sources, that things are trending in
that direction that I think both sides. You know, I
heard you talk about this yesterday. I appreciate the shout out,
Like they have talked about very specifically they want to
plays opponent andxponent, sorry, a group of five school and
(06:56):
a Power five school. And if you're going to play
a group of five school every year, if it's Miami
every three four years, like okay, people get got worked
up when I reported that. I'm like, what, so you're
just dying to see them play bowling green right in
Kent State? Like they're going to play a group of
(07:19):
five school if it's Miami once every couple of cycles. Okay,
it doesn't I just I don't see a problem with that.
I think it's one of the longest running rivalries in
the country. If you want to keep it alive, I'm
good with that. Everybody complains about college football as we
know it is dying. They're killing off all the things
(07:41):
that make college football great. And then when it's your
team that's involved in maybe keeping one of those traditions alive,
well not like that, not us, like we didn't we
don't want to say college football, but everybody else could
do their part.
Speaker 1 (07:56):
Yeah. I had this converceation with somebody and I go, okay, well,
if it's not Miami, which traditional UC rivalry are you
looking to keep alive? There are none, So you could say.
Speaker 2 (08:09):
Well, you were not going to play see football? Correct? Yeah?
Speaker 1 (08:13):
So yeah, yeah, you can't. You can't say one thing
and then say something completely diametrically opposed to it. Are
we going to get a basketball schedule anytime soon, a
full basketball schedule, a Big twelve basketball schedule.
Speaker 2 (08:24):
Within the week. I think sometimes veries this is right
in the window that we got it last year, so
I would assume that it'll be right within you know,
by the what's the the Texas Tecon game was the
twenty eighth. I would think we'll have one by the
end of next week.
Speaker 1 (08:41):
If the basketball schedule were to come out over the
next three to four days, would that be the biggest
piece of UC basketball news there is.
Speaker 2 (08:52):
To you? Maybe because I know how much you love
the schedule. Huh.
Speaker 1 (08:58):
I'm going to plan my life, man, I.
Speaker 2 (09:02):
Mean either too. I just anymore. I just assume I'm
either working or driving toing from something volleyball related. That's right. Yeah.
Are you coming to the Simon Kitton homecoming parade tonight? Mo?
Speaker 1 (09:15):
No, that would be creepy.
Speaker 2 (09:17):
Yeah, well you can hang out with me. And I'm
not looking forward to it. But I helped build the float, okay.
Speaker 1 (09:25):
Very Yeah, I stopped going. I stopped going to homecoming
parades when I was in high school.
Speaker 2 (09:31):
Yeah, I haven't been to one in a very long time. So, uh,
I'm going to go to the Fishes and Independence and
stand on the hill and uh it's it's hot out there.
I'm not looking forward to this through. Uh. If you're
if you're into the roster, maybe tomorrow there could be
(09:51):
some some really good news. Uh. Four star point guard
key Shawn Tillery is committee tomorrow at around five o'clock.
He is very very good. The first time I really
got a scouting report on Keyshaan Tillery was from none
other than Kane Broome. Tillery plays in the same prep
(10:13):
school league as Kane coaches in and he said, this
dude is the baddest dude I've seen in the twenty
twenty five class. Every time we play him. He cooks
us for forty and I think he's the one that
kind of started this called Lesson said, hey, like you
need to get after this dude. He goes to Newhampton.
(10:35):
If that sounds familiar, that's the prep school that Wes
Miller went to, so I would. I think it's safe
to assume wes Miller has very good connections at New
Hampton and he was there yesterday is usually a good sign, though,
if you're into reading recruiting Tea leaves. Wes Miller visited
(10:55):
Keyshan Tillery at Newhampton Prep School yesterday and then yesterday
evening keischan Tillery set his commitment date.
Speaker 1 (11:05):
Oh okay.
Speaker 2 (11:07):
Usually a good sign, yeah, all right, not always When
the coach leaves the visit and then you immediately begin
the work of announcing your commitment. It bodes well for
the school that was their last. And I don't know
if you've heard this mo. At least they didn't do
what wake Forest did in this recruitment, which was wake
(11:30):
Forest was getting ready to go up this week and
see him to make their final pitch. Wake Forest is
one of the finalists and they sent him an edit.
In the edit had a different point guard in it.
Good work, nice job. And my understanding is Keishaan Tillery
(11:50):
called the staff at wake Forest and said, yeah, you
know that visit that you guys were gonna come up
and see me, You should probably cancel the flight. This
is a thing that really happened this week now.
Speaker 1 (12:05):
So some interesting discussions being had in the wake Forest
basketball offices over the last couple of days.
Speaker 2 (12:10):
Huh. Whoever said that whatever whatever intern sent that, I'm
guessing his internship might not extend into October. Incredible?
Speaker 1 (12:21):
All right, man, thank you as always, Thanks Bo. That's
our guy, Chad. But go seeam tonight. He'll be on
the frishes outside Frishes and Independence watching the Simon Kenton
homecoming parade. His daughter goes to Simon Kenton. Not just
being some weirdo watching a homecoming parade. UH and his website,

some advice for the favorites.
Speaker 1 (13:52):
Now to a fast out is IMPAREDI for this offense
to be able to have success the entire game. But
I would also say, first is second down production, right,
so you can stay out of third and long situations.

That's what the New England Pacers defense. They want you
right into their.
