Speaker 1 (00:00):
The Commanders in prime time coverage starts Monday at three
on ESPN fifteen thirty, the official home of the Bengals.
Speaker 2 (00:07):
Here you go, what's up? Six after three? This is
ESPN fifteen thirty. My name's Melleger. Thank you for listening.
Hopefully you're having like the greatest Thursday of all time.
It's gorgeous outside. We are loaded. We're loaded this hour.
We're loaded today. Maybe we'll be loaded by six o'clock.
I don't know. Sean Kilpatrick's going to be on this
show at five thirty five, and I can't wait because
(00:29):
you know how much I love U se basketball, and
if you know that, you know how much I love
sk He goes into UC's Hall of Fame tomorrow night.
He is going to join us at five thirty five.
It is a loaded Hall of Fame class. I've used
the word loaded four times already, and we have been
on the air for about forty five seconds this hour.
Lee Sterling's gonna help us make some money. Coming up
(00:50):
in just about twenty five minutes. Chad Brendle on UC
football and basketball at three forty five, and Joe Burrow
is going to talk at three fifteen because I know
you can't get enough Joe. I know you can't get
enough Joe Burrow. I'll carry his comments for you live.
You will not be able to hear the questions, but
you will be able to hear the answers, and I
guess that's all that matters. Full Show Rundown available on
(01:13):
X at Mulleger. Thanks to our friends at Emory Federal
Credit Union, your credit union with heart since nineteen thirty nine.
Go to EMORYFCU dot org. T Higgins is supposed to
practice today. There is the headline Chris Jenkins and a
Marius mim Zach Taylor said also will be worked back
into practice. No go today for Sheldon Rankins or BJ Hill.
(01:38):
With neither of those developments are a surprised. The headline
is T T is back. T is a player with
a lot to prove. Look injury history has been brought
up a lot with T Higgins. He is added to
it by missing the last two games. Can he stay
healthy over the next fifteen? Can he stay healthy? And
can he be productive? T could use a really productive
(02:00):
season if his idea is to get one of those
haft wide receiver contracts and dictate the terms of what
he gets paid. It would behoove him, so to speak,
to have a big, big year. Also, the Bengals could
use T Higgins and like we know what Jamar Chase
can do. I think we are really encouraged by what
we're seeing from the tight ends. By the way, I
(02:21):
think Eric All is going to be an absolute dude.
They certainly use Mike Gisiki a lot. They've used him
a lot in the first two games. Jermaine Burton made
a big play. I don't know if he automatically becomes
the odd man out. With Tea's arrival, the add T
Higgins to it, this team is supposed to become difficult
to defend. We'll see if they do. We'll see what
(02:41):
Tea's impact on the game on Monday is. By the
way Reds are playing, and they are officially playing meaningless baseball,
They're getting destroyed by the Braves today at GABP eleven
to two, the score as Atlanta comes to the plate
in the seventh inning. We'll keep you up to date
on that throughout the course of the afternoon. We got
a lot to get to today, a lot you may
have missed this week. If you have go get it
(03:02):
on the iHeartRadio app. We'll get through all that between
now and six o'clock. We'll step away early when we
come back. Joe Burrows Weekly Press Conference Live. It's typically
on a Wednesday, but today it's a Thursday because the
games on Monday. Chances are you get that. You'll get
Joe next on ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station. Missed
on this show or since the three sixty, or for
(03:23):
that matter, Friday Football Frenzy, you can find on the
iHeartRadio app. Anything from this show, obviously you can find
on my page at ESPN fifteen thirty dot com. Good
stuff this week Tony and Mo Football Show. The post
mortem of the game against Kansas City Paul Danner Junior
was outstanding. If you didn't hear Sean Sayett of SUMER
Sports might not be a household name, he will be.
(03:45):
That dude is going to be one of the most
well known, like NFL content people around, and we could
say we discovered him. Richard Skinner from yesterday, Katrina Merriweather,
the UC women's basketball coach, joined US doctor Matt Desjardon
from Ortho Cincy with some good stuff on both BJ
Hill End Sheldon rankins as they deal with hamstring injuries,
(04:08):
any of that stuff and so much more. Go get
it now iHeartRadio app or MYPAGESPN fifteen thirty dot com.
Podcasts of this show are a service of Long Neck
Sports Grill three locations in Northern Kentucky. I stopped by
Long Necks on Tuesday night in Wilder, could not beat it,
had some wings, had a cold, one had a good
(04:29):
time Wilder, Hebron and Rich would of course home of
the Roundtable Show with Lance and Rocky. That is tonight.
Off the top of my head, I don't know which
location they're at, so just pick one and have a
good time. Five point three fifteen thirty is our phone number.
Eight sixty six seven oh two three seven seven six
works as well. By the way, today's show is a

service of Orthos Sinsey Orthopedics and Sports Medicine. And you
can send a tweet on the Delta Dental Twitter feed
at Delta Dental. Delta Dental is building healthy, smart, vibrant
communities for all. Good to Delta dentalh dot com. Holding
pattern for Joe Burrow as the Bengals quarterback hopefully gets
(05:11):
to the podium here quickly, so we can stay on time.
Bengals a rower and two for a third consecutive year,
which means for a third consecutive year, the Bengals face
what feels like a must win game in September, and
obviously they lose on Monday. We're gonna spend a lot
of time convincing ourselves, Hey, it O and three. They
can still get to ten or eleven wins. And maybe
(05:32):
they can. But you know, the more games you lose early,
the smaller margin for air you have late. That's to
me kind of what I'm thinking about going into this
third game is the margin for air. They should beat
the Washington Commanders. Washington is dead last in the NFL
in defense DVOA defensive DVA. They've got a quarterback making
(05:54):
his third career start last week against the Giants. Washington
won that game for two reasons. Number one, they have
a field goal kicker who went seven for seven, Austin Seybert,
a Special Teams Player of the Week in the NFC.
Number two, the Giants forgot to bring a kicker because
theirs was hurt and he couldn't kick, so they had
(06:15):
to go for it in situations in plus territory where
they wouldn't want to, but good for the Washington Commanders.
Brian Robinson's a good running back. Jane Daniels can do
some awesome things with his legs. I tend to think
he's got a chance to be a really good pro
for whatever that's worth. But this is a game the
Bengals should win. They're seven and a half point favorites,
they are at home. They lost their home opener. You
(06:35):
can't lose consecutive home games when you're favored by a
touchdown and they're favored by a touchdown and a hook
on Monday. But you know, anything can happen. It's not
exactly groundbreaking analysis, but there could be something that happens
in the game that is a little weird, or there's
(06:56):
an injury or whatever it is, tough whistle, whatever it is,
and a game that you're supposed to win becomes one
that you lose. If you're not zero to two, it's
not that damaging. When you're zero and two, it's really damaging.
So we talk a lot about the Bengals moving forward,
avoiding theh to two starts, and figuring out ways to
(07:19):
balance keeping everybody healthy, getting everybody to the post, ensuring availability,
while at the same time getting the team ready to
hit the ground running week one, having them be and
look prepared. It's also avoiding must win games in September. Now,
it's a short season comparatively speaking, there's only seventeen games,
(07:40):
so every game means so much. But I don't know
about you. Yes, it's cool the Bengals beat the Jets
two years ago Week three in New Jersey. Won that
game pretty decisively. Yes, it's cool that Jamar Chase played
out of his mind on Monday Night Football last year
Game three against the Rams and the Bengals. One. I'm
(08:01):
kind of tired of talking about must win games in September.
It would be nice, and it's obviously not gonna happen
this year. It would be nice for the Bengals to
start the season playing from ahead. Like we talk a
lot about the Ravens being oh in two and it
(08:21):
to me feels a little bit like a different and
two than the Bengals OH and two. And so you
can take some comfort in the fact that the other team,
the team that many have called the team to be
in the AFC North, takes some degree of comfort in
the fact that they're also oh and two. Misery loves company?
(08:45):
But how cool would it be? How good would it feel?
How important would it be? Will it would it feel
for this team to have a two game lead over
the Baltimore Ravens where they have the must win and
you have a chance to be as many as three
games up on them going into the last week of September,
(09:07):
with that Week five game looming, and you having at
least a chance to effectively end their contention in the
AFC North for twenty twenty four. I've thought about that,
like it's one thing to talk about the history of
coming back from oh and two. They have a good
(09:27):
history of coming back from owen two. It's another thing
to talk about how well the rest of the division.
You know, Baltimore is just owing two and Cleveland's got issues,
And I don't think anybody's really buying too much into
the Pittsburgh as serious contenders, even though they've won their
first two games on the road. But also what a
missed opportunity, Like the Browns are playing really janky looking
(09:50):
football right now twenty four penalties, haven't really gotten much
of anything going offensively, still don't have a Nick Chubb back,
the kind of nice to have a lead over them
while they're figuring stuff out. It'd be great to have
a two game lead over Baltimore while John Harbaugh company
are figuring stuff out. Twenty two minutes after three o'clock,
(10:17):
Tony and Austin, we're talking about this and maybe we'll
play the audio if we have time later. On the
internet topic duje or involves, Mel Kuiper was on Get
Up this morning, and I saw this live because I
do watch Get Up, or at least often have it on.
I watch Good Morning Football more. It's better show. But anyway,
Get Up is on, and mel Kuiper was talking about
(10:37):
getting rid of banning outlawing the two high safety defense
because teams are having a hard time throwing the ball downfield.
Defenses have basically said, we're gonna let you check down.
We're gonna let you dnk and dunk. We're gonna let
you run West Coast. We're gonna let you run the football.
We're not gonna let you beat us downfield. And through
(10:59):
two weeks, you know, the trend has been offenses down
through two weeks, dani Orlowski tweeted this, through two weeks,
we have the fewest number of passing touchdowns since two
thousand and six through two weeks, seven point one average
target depth lowest on record through two weeks. Forty one
(11:20):
percent of plays are designed runs highest since two thousand
and eight. Five hundred and forty five blitzes fewest on
record through two weeks. Forty six percent of defensive snaps
employ the too high safety look, highest on record. So
defenses have basically said, we're not gonna let you beat
(11:43):
us deep. Go ahead and figure out a way to
do it. NFL teams haven't done so, so now the now,
the idea is to outlaw the defense. Mel Kiper's a
smart guy, very nice man, and pioneered an entire industry.
Everybody who's a draftnik has him to think. How about this,
(12:04):
how About let's get some improved quarterback play. How About
let's do a better job of actually developing quarterbacks, which
it feels like there's no time for anymore. How About
letting offensive coordinators earn their money. How about letting the
league evolve and adjust. To me, that's one of the
really fun things about sports, right there will be a
(12:26):
trend or a tactic, and this is not just true
in football. There'll be a tactic that sort of spreads
its way through the sport, and then you see how
you see how the league adjusts. It's why I was
kind of anti banning the shift, although I don't think
banning the shift in baseball has been that bad, But
(12:46):
I wanted to see what it would look like if
teams had I don't know, a generation's worth of players
they could bring through their system, teaching them how to
hit the ball to all fields. In pro and college basketball,
we've seen the three point defense take and we've watched
how defenses have adjusted to take away a shot that
not that long ago. For a lot of guys, you
(13:07):
pretty much gave them. How about we see how offenses
figure it out. That's always to me kind of the
fun part. When teams started running RPOs, which the San
Francisco forty nine ers popularized with Colin Kaepernick in the
early twenty tens, Remember that summer all the defensive coordinators
went to college campuses to talk to college coaches about
(13:29):
how they were defending an offense that had been pretty
mainstream in college but was now just taking hold in
the NFL. And now what do we have? We have
defenses who are that are designed and are good at
often stopping that type of offense? Or why about we
just get better quarterback play, not better quarterback plays than
something you could just wave a magic wand and get.
(13:51):
But I feel like the league itself isn't great at
quarterback development because it can't be because well, we don't wait,
players only have four years on their rookie contracts. I
might make that a poll question outlawing the too high safety.
Speaker 3 (14:06):
Look.
Speaker 2 (14:06):
Our friend Robert win Trouve will have some thoughts on that.
Is Joe Burrow gonna be so late that we're gonna
have to record his comments? I think that might be
the case. Where did Joe Burrow cancel his media availability?
I don't know. I don't know he's coming right now.
So all right, well here's the deal, man. I love
(14:28):
Joe Burrow. We all love Joe Burrow. Uh we've we've
got a we've got a we've got a break coming
up in about three and a half minutes. I don't
know that we could afford to play all like if
he's if he talks for twenty minutes, that's gonna throw
everything off. Here's what we're gonna do. I'll call an
audible so to speak. Here, Joe is about to talk
(14:49):
Liam Tomlinson, who is producing today. Tarren Bland is on
assignment at the ballpark, so Liam is pinchhitting Liam. I
want you to record Joe Burrow. Uh, And we'll do
is we'll play Joe at four oh five so that
everybody who has no other way of hearing him will
hear him on our show. And that way we can
stay on time. And if there's anything earth shattering that
(15:11):
he says, we'll certainly let you know, but we'll carry
that at four oh five. That way we don't get
totally thrown off because we got Lee Sterling, and not
that Lee Sterling is more important than Joe Burrow. You're
not gonna make any money from Joe. You're gonna make
some money from Lee, or at least we have every
week since we've had him on. So he's gonna join
us coming up. Our phone numbers are five one, three, seven,
(15:31):
four nine, fifteen thirty and eight sixty six, seven oh two, three, seven,
seven six. Chad Brendle on UC football and basketball coming
up as well at three forty five, and speaking of hoops,
Sean Kilpatrick's going to join us on the eve of
his Hall of Fame induction that you see at five
thirty five. It's twenty eight after three. My name is Malhegger.

Yakubo named to the MLS Team of the Match Day
(16:26):
for his performance. Last night's FC Cincinnati road went against
Minnesota and the Reds have given up three three run
homers to the Braves, who have hit four total today.
Raves lead that ballgame of GABP eleven to three in
the top of the eighth inning. Chad Brenda and the
Bearcats coming up in just about ten minutes. But first
we do this on Thursdays. We make some money with
(16:47):
our guy, Lee Sterling of Paramount Sports. The website is
paramount sports dot com. He is on X at Paramount
Sports Pro and college football. Lots going on. He tries
to make us some coin. What's going on, sir, I'm good,
I'm good.
Speaker 3 (17:01):
I can't come with some weird games and college all
this week. I mean, you know, teams like LSU playing
uc LA, some games you know that were arranged years
and years ago, and conference realignment. Do you still find
yourself like when you when you see your Bearcats, you
start looking up, You're like, oh, who are they playing?
You're like, oh, we're in the Big Twelve now?
Speaker 2 (17:23):
You ever do that often? Often? I tell you what,
I'll tell you what's I'll tell you what's been weird
here in the first couple of weeks of the season.
And this isn't really anybody's fault, but in the Big
Twelve specifically, there have been conference games that are non
conference games because they were arranged, Like Kansas State Arizona
played a non conference game as conference foes last week,
(17:44):
and there's we've had that before. But that's that's weird.
That that's weird, and it adds to an already very
weird dynamic.
Speaker 3 (17:52):
Yeah, it's strange times. Who knows what's gonna happen?
Speaker 4 (17:57):
Pack?
Speaker 3 (17:57):
The Pack twelve might end up the Pac twelve again.
Speaker 2 (18:00):
Who knows? Yeah, who knows? Speaking to my Bearcats. They're
home this week the Big twelve ote. But are they
bounced back with a win over Miami. They are laying
three against the Houston Cougars. What do we like?
Speaker 3 (18:13):
So the first year that Houston, you know, is under
the new coaching regime, I think they're going to continue
to have problems. I mean they won last week. The
quarterback throwing Donovan Smith for one hundred and forty two yards.
I mean he is very erratic. Willie Fritz, his first
year at Houston did not go well at all. He
eventually turned things around. I think he's a really good coach.
(18:34):
But I like the way that the Bearcats played last week.
I mean, if you look at just like stats wise,
you know, it was closed, but they were efficient. Yeah,
Mi had some you know, yardage in between the twenties.
But the quarterback played well and he turned the ball
over once. Kinder big game, even the transfer from Ohio
State prior had a big run and David Henderson, I mean,
(19:00):
played for many many years down here at Miami Columbus
finally had his biggest game yet. So I think they're
gonna keep rolling. I think this line's low. I have
Cincinnati winning this game here, thirty one to twenty one.
Speaker 2 (19:11):
All right, we're off to a good start. We've had
a pair of two to zero teams that are doing
it with defense. Pittsburgh is lighte favored against the Chargers.
Speaker 3 (19:19):
Yeah, and the Chargers are gonna keep running football. In fact,
they've run the ball fifty nine percent of the highest
percent in the league. And that's Jim Harball football JK Dobbins,
early candidate for Comeback Player of the Year. I think
Pittsburgh knows that they just can't allow him to run
the football. I think you're gonna see a lot of
seven in the box here and make the Chargers throw
(19:41):
the football. They the receivers for the Chargers just don't
scare me. Even the tight ends just not getting enough separation,
So not gonna be exciting. You can probably step out
and if you want to go to the pumping pack,
punk and patch and if that's open yet, and get
a pumpkin with a family, go ahead and do it.
Pittsburgh comes out on top twenty one to sixteen. I
think special teams might be the difference.
Speaker 2 (20:02):
All right, let's look ahead to Monday Night Lee. The
Bengals big favorites again at home over Washington.
Speaker 3 (20:09):
This Washington team is bad. I mean, you know, we've
talked about the troubles to start the season, but Zach
Taylor is three to zero in the last three years
in Game three and just shows you that the fine line,
I mean, kin City won those two games. First game
against Baltimore last week either by a tow or one point.
(20:30):
Cincinnati comes up with one play they win that game.
The Commanders might have the worst defense. They got carved
up by Baker Mayfield in Tampa Bay opening week, lying
thirty seven points in three hundred and ninety two yards.
Their past defense, I believe is the worst in the NFL.
They have a lot of breaks and coverage here, so
(20:50):
somehow they beat the Giants despite not scoring a touchdown. Here,
Cincinnati finally gets on the win column here, thirty one
to twenty.
Speaker 2 (21:00):
All right, Les Darling Paramount sports dot Com Free play
of the Week. Baltimore and Dallas two teams trying to
bounce back after extraordinarily disappointing efforts last week.
Speaker 3 (21:10):
Yep, I'm gonna give it to the first five callers
they call eight hundred four hundred nine seven four one,
we will give them Baltimore in Dallas on me eight
hundred four hundred nine seven four to one, and mohaw about.
This is the most anticipated offer that we have every year.
Everyone loves the Bakers, doesn't. It's thirteen games Saturday and Sunday,
(21:31):
just ninety seven dollars, and we've had some twelve and one,
eleven and two and ten and three records on it.
But I'm gonna go a step farther. I'm so sure
I've never done this. If I don't have a winning record,
if I don't go seven and six or better, next week.
Speaker 5 (21:45):
Is on me.
Speaker 2 (21:46):
Wow.
Speaker 3 (21:46):
And I'm also gonna throw in baseball one of seventeen
and five run in baseball the last week, I'm gonna
give out all the baseball selections from today through Sunday,
also for free, so Bakers doesn't thirteen games is nine
and we're guaranteeing it's gonna win just one place. Paramount

(22:34):
This is ESPN fifteen thirty. Is Chad. Chad's there? I
see Chad on hold on two different lines, all Chad.
When we call Chad, it's going to voicemail, straight to voicemail. Wow.
Well here, you know what, I'll just I'll see if
I'll see if I can call them all. I'll try
to use our phone system. I'll see if I can
figure this out. This is live radio. See, if we
(22:55):
were doing like a podcast, we we would just stop,
we would not be recording, and then we'd you know,
chase down the person. But you know, we we're doing
this live. This is like by the seat of our pants.
There's the thing. I hit dial, I'm I'm online eight. Hello,
Hey there he is. Hi Chad, Chad, You're on the
(23:16):
radio right now. What's going on?
Speaker 5 (23:18):
I'm o, is my phone not working yet?
Speaker 2 (23:20):
It was going right to voicemail. Liam was trying to
dial you and it wasn't working. But I did it
here directed now here we are well.
Speaker 5 (23:27):
I'm glad to be here.
Speaker 2 (23:31):
D Bearcatjournal dot Com on x at Chad Brendel. Uh,
what was the biggest takeaway from the victory over the
Miami RedHawks last week?
Speaker 5 (23:41):
That they won the game and I don't didn't have
to deal with listening to people complain about them not
winning the game. More than anything, mo, I think as
we enter Big twelve play, I feel a lot more
confident about the number of guys that I I'm pretty confident
(24:02):
saying our Big twelve level like higher Big twelve level players,
not like you know, above replacement level. We like that
term these days, right Brendan Soursby, Joe roy or Xavier Henderson,
Corey Kiner, you know, Luke Candra, Jared Bartlett, Derek Canteen,
(24:26):
like Jordan Young. I think there's a bunch of guys
now I feel comfortable going into Big twelve plays saying
they got a bunch of guys that I think can
compete at a pretty high level in this conference. I
mean they're gonna, you know, win the conference. No, that's
not what I'm saying. I'm saying it's a much larger
number than it felt like a season ago.
Speaker 2 (24:47):
I think they've played well. I'll kind of throw away
bits and pieces of the Townson game, but I think
they've played well essentially for ten out of twelve quarters,
maybe nine and a half out of twelve quarters. So
that's the majority. If what I've seen from the majority
of the time in the first three games is what
I see the majority of the time over the course
(25:08):
of the next nine Big Twelve games, they should win
their fair share, correct, I think so?
Speaker 5 (25:14):
I do I somewhat take exception to something I heard
you say yesterday, Oh, that the Big Twelve is down. Yeah,
I think it's right, don't. I think it's right about
where I expected it to be. I did not expect
it to have a team that you know, was in
the top five, necessarily in the top ten of the
(25:36):
college football rankings. There are still five, six, seven teams
at the top of this conference that I think are
pretty good. The bottom is nowhere near as bad as
some of the other leagues that I'm looking at. Hello,
Mississippi State, Hello, Florida State. Like you know, I look
around and I think it's right about where I expected
(25:56):
the Big Twelve. I maybe agree with you if you
said Cincinnati's schedule portion of the Big Twelve not great,
and I think that hopefully is a good thing for UC.
Speaker 2 (26:12):
Yeah, I mean, it's maybe not down the league top
to bottom. There's not a team that jumps off the page.
And that doesn't mean they aren't very good teams. That
doesn't mean they aren't very good teams. I could could
make a run in the College Football Playoff, but I
think specifically when you focus on who u SE does
and doesn't play, like there are two games, I'm not
exactly thrilled with the rest of them. I think they
(26:34):
have a puncher's chance, and some more so than others,
including obviously this Saturday. But I don't know, man, I'm
a little bit more glass half full than I think
a lot of people are who are still, perhaps justifiably so,
stewing over the Pittsburgh game.
Speaker 5 (26:50):
Yeah, and I get it like that, you can't lose
that game.
Speaker 2 (26:53):
That was just.
Speaker 5 (26:55):
Watching it slip away, was just watching a car park
on like the train tracks and just waiting for the
train to come. Like once Pitt got rolling, it was like,
oh no, this is not And then they get to
stop on the two point conversion and you're like, all right,
maybe they can hang on. Then they get the second
(27:15):
two point conversion stop and you're like, surely they're not
going to let Pick get the ball back again and
score for the fourth time in a row. And then
that happens and you're walking off the field on boy,
there's a whole lot that just got flushed down the
drain that that was so positive for most of that game. Hopefully.
(27:36):
You know. Houston's not very I mean they're okay, They're
not good. I think they're getting better. I think is
a good way to describe where they are at going
into their fourth game under Willie Fritz, because I think
we all agree he's a pretty good coach. I don't
know what to take of Texas Tech. I have no clue.
They've scored a bunch of points in two of three games.
(27:58):
Washington State kind of played keep away from them and
they couldn't score at all. Arizona State We're gonna find
out a lot about this weekend. I think they've been
a surprise, but I don't love them like, yeah, there's
you know, UC app might run for seven hundred yards again, Like, honestly,
(28:18):
mough r J. Harvey might be one of the top
five most fun players to watch, and that brings my
soul a great deal of pain to say something nice
about UCU.
Speaker 2 (28:29):
Yeah, they just played Miami and it was a different
type of battle for the victory. Bell right, Like everybody
leaned into it. It took them losing last year, I
think for a lot of a lot of uc players,
but I think a lot of fans sort of lean
into the rivalry. And you've talked about this a lot.
There's one more scheduled game remaining. I wouldn't mind a
(28:52):
resumption of this that was every few years. It feels
to me like there's a pretty good chance that that
ends up being the case.
Speaker 5 (28:59):
Correct according to my sources, that things are trending in
that direction that I think both sides. You know, I
heard you talk about this yesterday. I appreciate the shout out,
Like they have talked about very specifically, they want to
play an FBS opponent and fcxponent, sorry, a group of
(29:19):
five school and a Power five school. And if you're
going to play a group of five school every year.
If it's Miami every three four years, like, okay, people
get got worked up when I reported that. I'm like, what, so,
you're just dying to see them play Bowling Green in
(29:40):
Kent State, Like they're going to play a group of
five school if it's Miami once every couple of cycles. Okay,
it doesn't. I just I don't see a problem with that.
I think it's one of the longest running rivalries in
the country. If you want to keep it alive, I'm
good with that. Everybody complains about college football as we
(30:02):
know it is dying. They are killing off all the
things that make college football great. And then when it's
your team that's involved in maybe keeping one of those
traditions alive, well not like that, not us, but we didn't.
We don't. We don't want to save college football. But
everybody else should do their part.
Speaker 2 (30:21):
Yeah. I had this conversation with somebody and I go, okay, well,
if it's not Miami, which traditional UC rivalry are you
looking to keep alive? There are none, So you could say, well,
you were not.
Speaker 5 (30:35):
Going to play you see in football.
Speaker 2 (30:36):
Correct, So yeah, yeah, you can't. You can't say one
thing and then say something completely diametrically opposed to it.
Are we going to get a basketball schedule anytime soon?
A full basketball schedule, A Big twelve basketball schedule.
Speaker 5 (30:49):
Within the week? I think sometimes, very This is right
in the window that we got it last year, So
I would assume that it'll be right within you know,
by the what's the the Texas Tech game was the
twenty eighth. I would think we'll have one by the
end of next week.
Speaker 2 (31:06):
If the basketball schedule were to come out over the
next three to four days, would that be the biggest
piece of UC basketball news there is to you?
Speaker 5 (31:18):
Maybe because I know how much you love the schedule.
Speaker 2 (31:23):
To plan my life, man, I mean either too.
Speaker 5 (31:28):
I just anymore, I just assume i'm either working or
driving toing from something volleyball related.
Speaker 2 (31:34):
That's right. Yeah.
Speaker 5 (31:36):
Are you coming to the Simon Kitton homecoming parade tonight? Bo?
Speaker 2 (31:39):
No, that would be creepy.
Speaker 5 (31:42):
Yeah, well you can hang out with me, and I'm
not looking forward to it.
Speaker 2 (31:47):
It doesn't sound but I help build the float, okay,
very cooping. Yeah, I stopped going. I stopped going to
homecoming parades when I was in high school.
Speaker 5 (31:56):
Yeah, I haven't been to one in a very long time.
So I'm going to go to the Fishes and Independence
and stand on the hill and it's hot out there.
I'm not looking forward to this, though. If you're into
the roster, maybe tomorrow there could be some really good news.
(32:20):
Four star point guard key Shawn Tillery is committeeing tomorrow
at around five o'clock. He is very, very good. The
first time I really got a scouting report on Keyshawn
Tillery was from none other than Kane Broom. Tillery plays
in the same prep school league as Kane coaches in
(32:41):
and he said, this dude is the baddest dude I've
seen in the twenty twenty five class. Every time we
play him, he cooks us for forty and I think
he's the one that kind of started this called Lesson
said hey, like you need to get after this dude.
He goes to Newhampton. If that sounds familiar, that's the
(33:02):
prep school that Wes Miller went to, so I would
I think it's safe to assume Wes Miller has very
good connections at New Hampton and he was there yesterday
is usually a good sign. Though. If you're into reading recruiting,
Tea Leaves Wes Miller visited Keyshawn Tillery at Newhampton Prep
(33:23):
School yesterday and then yesterday evening Keyshawn Tillery set his
commitment date.
Speaker 2 (33:30):
Oh okay.
Speaker 5 (33:31):
Usually a good sign.
Speaker 2 (33:33):
Yeah all right, not always.
Speaker 5 (33:36):
When the coach leaves the visit and then you immediately
begin the work of announcing your commitment, it bodes well
for the school that was there last. And I don't
know if you've heard this mo at least they didn't
do what wake Forest did in this recruitment, which was
wake Forest was getting ready to go up this week
(33:57):
and see him to make their final pitch. Forest is
one of the finalists, and they sent him an edit
and the edit had a different point guard in it.
Speaker 2 (34:09):
Good work, nice job.
Speaker 5 (34:11):
And my understanding is Keishan Tillery called the staff at
wake Forest and said, yeah, you know that visit that
you guys were gonna come up and see me, you
should probably cancel the flight. This is a thing that
really happened.
Speaker 2 (34:26):
This week now, So some interesting discussions being had in
the wake Forest basketball offices over the last couple of days.
Speaker 5 (34:34):
Huh, whoever sent that, whatever whatever intern sent that, I'm
guessing his internship might not extend into October.
Speaker 2 (34:44):
Incredible. All right, man, thank you as always, Thanks Bo.
That's sir guy Chad. But go seeam tonight. He'll be
on the frishes outside Frishes and Independence watching the Simon
Kenton homecoming parade. His daughter goes to Simon Kenton. Not
just being some weirdo watching homecoming parade. Uh. And his

twenty four straight games as the underdog in this matchup.
ESPN's Harry Douglas with some advice for the favorites.
Speaker 2 (36:17):
Get up to a fast start.
Speaker 7 (36:18):
Is impared for this offense to be able to have
success the entire game. But I would also say first
is second down production, gu right, so you can stay
out of third and long situations. That's what the New
England Pacers defense. They want you right into their hands
on third and law so they can give you all
kind of crazy looks.
Speaker 2 (36:33):
Harry Douglas.
Speaker 6 (36:34):
Lions coach Dan Campbell is selling his house in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan,
to protect his family's privacy. Fox two in Detroit reports
Campbell's home address was leaked to the public and his
family has been victimized by pranks and harassment after losses.
Speaker 2 (36:50):

But I'm I'm still gonna do my thing. Joe's gonna
do his thing. You do your thing. Sit here and listen.
Here's the quarterback of the Bengals with the assembled pro
football media.
Speaker 4 (38:09):
Yeah.
Speaker 10 (38:09):
We had our opportunities. We didn't take advantage of move
in the red zone. There were a couple. You know, obviously,
when you lose game like that, you you fixate on
an opportunities that you didn't hit. We hit plenty of them,
you know. I thought we found a good rhythm on offense.
We just you know, women get in the red zone.
We got to punched in and can't turn them all over.
Speaker 11 (38:27):
Is there anything that you did throughout the week that
kind of made you feel work comfortable, felt make you
feel as good.
Speaker 5 (38:32):
As you did in that game, maybe as opposed to
the court.
Speaker 1 (38:34):
Mmm.
Speaker 10 (38:36):
No, I treat every week the same, just another week
under my belt, So I'm going to continue to get better.
Speaker 2 (38:43):
I felt felt.
Speaker 10 (38:44):
Good on on Sunday planning on feeling great on Monday.
Speaker 12 (38:48):
Have you allowed yourself to think, how good solt that's
gonna be with the full complement the weapons.
Speaker 10 (38:53):
To taste back this week we have we know what
we can be. It's it's about what we are right now.
It's about getting better every day. So you know, we
know what we have in that locker room, we know
where we can go.
Speaker 2 (39:06):
We just have to go do it.
Speaker 13 (39:09):
Guys, enter a situation that's purely similar to last year
Monday Night Football ZH and two in a must win game.
How frustrating is it that that if you find it
frustrating that that is the same thing a.
Speaker 10 (39:21):
Year later, I wouldn't say I'm frustrated right now, and
I was frustrated on Sunday. That was a tough loss.
But we just gotta go on good win. We gotta
focus on getting better every day throughout practice and go
out and execute well. We have to execute on Monday.
The rest will take care of itself. So you know,
(39:43):
we're we're in a fine spot. You know we've been
here before. We're not panicking, so we're we're focused on
on getting a win and getting better every day. Would
use as urgency under this game that's high. You know,
we we're treating that. We've treated every practice like it's
the same.
Speaker 2 (40:02):
You know, we're.
Speaker 10 (40:04):
We pride ourselves on us. You're not being able to
tough we win or lose at practice. We're we're gonna
go out and have fun and get our work in
and get better.
Speaker 2 (40:15):
So we had a good day to day.
Speaker 10 (40:17):
We've had, you know, a bunch of good meetings since Sundays,
so we're excited.
Speaker 2 (40:23):
What the what does the tight end usuationship with twelve?
How does that affect you?
Speaker 4 (40:28):
How does it help you?
Speaker 10 (40:30):
Yeah, it definitely makes the defenses. You know, a lot
of teams have different looks in twelve personnel than they
do in eleven, and week to week that could vary.
The usage of twelve could very week to week depending
on matchups and what we feel like the defense is
gonna give us in those situations, and we have the
(40:51):
guys to make that decision. This year, we have a
lot of tight ends that we feel really good about
putting them on the field and going to making plays.
So that's a luxury that we have this year.
Speaker 14 (41:03):
What is it about our Coals game that you appreciate
the most of the place he's been there or pick.
Speaker 2 (41:08):
It up so quick.
Speaker 10 (41:09):
Yeah, he just gets better. He does nothing, work hard
and improve and learn from his mistakes and continue to
get better every day. That's what you want to have
a young player. He's got all the physical tools, you know,
He's big, fast, strong, catches it really well, and he's
continuing to understand what we're trying to to do with
concept and schemes. So I'm excited about his future.
Speaker 2 (41:30):
How unique is that for a rooky too?
Speaker 5 (41:32):
Exactly?
Speaker 2 (41:32):
Describe it as you guys, You one of the coaches
keep playing playing and he just does physis. How unique
is that for him to do? I would say that's
very unique.
Speaker 10 (41:41):
And we have we have two guys on offense that
are are continuing to get really a lot better for
us in Eric and Germaine. And then you know, whenever
Names comes back, see him on the field some. So
we have some rookies that we're counting on this year
that have made some big plays for us so far
and are gonna continue to get better and find their role.
Speaker 2 (42:04):
I should him back in the past few weeks.
Speaker 10 (42:05):
Yeah, he's he's gotten exponentially better over the last three weeks.
I would say, you saw him make a big play
on Sunday for us. He's gonna continue to carve out
his role and he continues to have good practices. So
the more he does that and the more he learns,
the more you're gonna see him.
Speaker 2 (42:19):
How long enough does that last week that you grew
on the field fourth field life?
Speaker 10 (42:22):
Yeah, it feels like a long time ago. Uh, we
just got to go out and get another one.
Speaker 2 (42:26):
How what's like, what's the stretchman went for you? It's
probably most who one of your retire life help him
kind of manage that you might have stretch from the
end of last year through this year to now. I mean,
what's that been like? Has the word back and he used.
Speaker 6 (42:37):
To leaking so much?
Speaker 10 (42:38):
Yeah, it's been a tough six eight months in a
frustrating couple of weeks, an emotional a couple of weeks.
Emotional Week one because I was just excited to get
back out there. In emotional Week two because that was
a hard fought, tough battle that we didn't come out
on top, didn't quite make enough.
Speaker 2 (42:58):
Plays to win.
Speaker 10 (42:58):
So uh where Uh, we're just excited to be back
out there, excited for the opportunity on Monday what's.
Speaker 2 (43:05):
It like Monday night when the lights come on and
it's Funday night.
Speaker 10 (43:08):
Put the ball and you're out there.
Speaker 2 (43:10):
That's what that's what you live for.
Speaker 10 (43:13):
You know, when you're a kid, you watch Monday night
football honestly before school. So I'm excited to be the
guy on the TV with that kid watching. So that's
always an opportunity that I relished.
Speaker 2 (43:25):
Jane Dannels thought they were really nice start. They really
moved the ball out for a couple of weeks. When
you watched him last year, a little bit anything to
stand out that really caught your eye.
Speaker 10 (43:34):
Display he's a dynamic player. I really like his throwing motion.
Seems like he can spend it and understands his fundamentals.
I think he's got a bright future.
Speaker 2 (43:44):
Then you do improve Relationship'll have good day.
Speaker 10 (43:47):
Yeah, we have a good one.
Speaker 9 (43:47):
You know.
Speaker 2 (43:48):
I see him.
Speaker 10 (43:49):
I saw him when I would go back, and I've
seen him a couple of times since. So whenever we
see each other, we we have good talk.
Speaker 2 (43:55):
You give me advice on having follow your footsteps panels specifically,
I can yelp, not really.
Speaker 14 (44:02):
Joe T.
Speaker 10 (44:02):
Jiggins has had a rough couple of weeks, not being
able to play. Desay's training the right ways, practicing again,
how much have you been wanting to see him get
back in the field of this office to.
Speaker 12 (44:11):
These dynamic scnt.
Speaker 10 (44:12):
Yeah, we're obviously a better team with Tea out there,
so he's going to continue to get healthier and healthier.
Speaker 2 (44:19):
So hopefully we have him on Sunday.
Speaker 10 (44:22):
If we don't, we still feel confident in the guys
that we have, but we're obviously more dynamic and much
better team with Tea out there.
Speaker 2 (44:30):
Right there you go. Hopefully somebody tells Joe the game
is Monday. T Higgins, by the way, is practicing or
was that back back in practice today? Bengals getting said
for Monday Night football taken on the Commanders. There was
Joe Burrow. Jay Morrison joins US next ORTHO cin C,
Moeger's Show ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station, Cincinnatis, OEGAR
J Morrison, Pro Football Network, the Bengals Pro Football Network podcast,
(44:54):
as well on x at by Jay Morrison does the
walkout with Paul Danner Junior on the joins US every Thursday. Jay,
what's going on?
Speaker 15 (45:04):
Hey mo, just got the injury report. Looks like T
Higgins came back to work today.
Speaker 2 (45:08):
Oh boy, Now this is exciting. It's a step in
the right direction. It points toward him playing on Monday.
Do we know extensively how much we should expect him
to play on Monday. Yeah, we don't know that.
Speaker 15 (45:21):
Not of this will depend on how the hamstring responds,
how he feels tomorrow. But it seems like trending in
the right direction. I mean, working out on the field
before the game Sunday and Kansas City getting back on
the practice field today. I would think that it would
be an all or nothing thing where they're not if
he's not ready to go, they're not going to put
him out there in a limited capacity. So I think
(45:42):
if he plays, you can expect to see pretty close
to a full workload.
Speaker 2 (45:45):
All right, So Tea plays, Tea dresses. Somebody then has
to be the odd man out. Does it become Jermaine
Burton in spite of his forty seven yard deep catch.
Speaker 15 (45:56):
I don't know about that, just because there's so many
other in right now that they're dealing with and who's
not going to be up and I think right now
it might be Trenton Irwin would be the odd man
out there. You've got the the explosiveness from from Jermaine Burton,
and I just wonder, now, you know, what does this
mean for andre Yoshibas, because yeah, he was He's their
(46:19):
wide receiver three and you expect him to play a lot.
But the way this team has really leaned into the
two tight end sets and you got you got two
tight ends out there and two wide receivers. So if
it's it's Chase and Higgins, that second tight end might
be eaten into some of Yoshi Bass's snaps.
Speaker 2 (46:33):
Yeah. I mean, there's there's a lot to love about
what's happening at tight end. Eric Hall looks like an
absolute dude. Mikeasicki has obviously been very productive. One of
the things I'm kind of interested in is you talked
about explosiveness. We saw it from Chase Brown on Sunday.
We did not see it from Zach Moss. Uh. Could
there be any alteration in the distribution of touches at
(46:53):
running back?
Speaker 5 (46:55):
Yeah?
Speaker 15 (46:55):
I think that is their plan. You know, Dan Pitcher
said today that it's not been by design, and it's
been the way things have worked out. I always thought
that they would lean a little more into Moss early
just because he's the veteran and we just saw so
little of Chase Brown last year. But I didn't expect
the disparity to be as great as it has been.
And I do think they're going to find a way
(47:16):
to get Chase Brown the ball in space. Maybe not
as many rushes as Zach Moss, but get him some screens,
get the ball in his hands one way or another.
You know, we've seen it. He can take it all
the way, no matter where he is on the field.
Speaker 2 (47:32):
Jay Morrison is with US Pro Football Network. What are
they going to do on the defensive line. I know
they've signed a guy who's been the league for fourteen years.
There's a reason why he was available. What are they
going to do on the defensive line, specifically stopping a
team that obviously is going to come here looking to
run the football.
Speaker 15 (47:49):
Yeah, and they ran the ball really well last week
against the Giants. The Commanders did. Chris Jenkins was back
at practice today. That is a good sign. I'm surgery
two weeks ago. They thought it was something he could
play through. He had that practice, he had that right
hand just rapped like a club. So see, he said
he would talk to the Needy tomorrow. He didn't want
(48:10):
to talk to day he had to get treatment. But
it seems like he's trending towards playing too, so at
least that's another body in there, and then Lawrence Guy.
I mean, if there's a position where you can just
get a guy off the street and have him play
a few snaps, I think defensive tackles in especially a
big body like him, they can just get in there
and take up space. And I do think we'll see
him play some. But yeah, you're still thin there because
(48:34):
it doesn't look like BJ Hill or Sheldon Rankins are
going to play today. VJ was on the rehab field.
Didn't see Sheldon Ranks out of practice at all. They
were both officially non participants in practice.
Speaker 2 (48:44):
Yeah, it touched how excited I am about Lawrence Guy
that I could remember his last name was Guy. I
forgot that his first name was Lawrence, which is why
I didn't say it. I'm ready Jay for Monday night.
I need the Dejean Anthony Redemption game. So we obviously
talked a lot about him in the fromatter the game.
On Sunday, he was on the field for fourth and sixteen.
People are still arguing about whether it was past interference.
(49:06):
I've stopped caring about that. I am rooting for the
Dejon Anthony Redemption game. Could I get it as soon
as Monday night?
Speaker 5 (49:14):
Oh?
Speaker 15 (49:14):
Yeah, I think you can. We're not going to see
him play fewer snaps. He's he's kind of developing into
that that tight end, especially in terms of coverage, and
like Trey Flowers was a couple of years ago, Dejon
did not want to talk after the game, understandable, did
not want to talk Monday, understandable. Today he met the
media and said he's watched that play a thousand times,
(49:34):
and he said he wasn't exaggerating. His lock screen on
his phone now is Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelsey, and
he is determined to see those guys again. And he
was very resolute in his belief that everything's going to
be fine. He said it was absolutely the hardest thing
he's ever had to deal with, and there is no
close second. But he's put it behind him, ready to
(49:55):
move on. And that guy he had a terrific camp.
He's here for a reason as a seventh round pick,
and I do think you're gonna see his role expand.
I don't know if you see the pick on Monday night.
He's making plays all year.
Speaker 2 (50:06):
Yeah, no, I am. I'm hopeful for that. Jay. Awesome
stuff as always, man, Thank you so much.
Speaker 15 (50:11):
All right, thanks Bo.
Speaker 2 (50:12):

at today's workout? Same for Chris Jenkins, same for Marius Mims.
No go for bj Hill, No go for Sheldon Rankins,
(51:32):
same for Tanner Hudson von Bell limited in his participation
with the back issue. Bengals Commanders. Monday Night Live on
ESPN fifteen thirty. Pre game coverage starts with our show
at three o'clock. Thursday Night Football Tonight Pats Jets Live
on Fox Sports thirteen sixty. U Yakubo named to the
MLS Team of the Match day for his performance and
(51:52):
last night's FC Cincinnati road win against Minnesota Reds. Destroyed
by the Braves today fifteen to three. The final score
at GABP Julian Agire. It did not go well. Brandon
lee Brandt had to wear it in his second appearance
for the Reds. He gave up seven runs in four innings,
(52:13):
but he ate four innings. He also struck out five.
Reds are continuing their homestand tomorrow. Braves hit six homers today.
By the way, Matt Olsen had two of them. Michael
Harris had two of them. Homestand continues the final series
of the year. Home series of the year for the Reds.
They host the Pirates tomorrow night. That's all I got.
Sports headlines, Dan Klaskin's coming up in just a few minutes,
(52:36):
plus Brenneman and Jones on baseball. Sean Kilpatrick joins us
in about an hour. Now it's time to talk to
people on the phone who have been waiting patiently, starting
in Milford, Ron, Thank you for your patients. You're on
ESPN fifteen thirty. Good afternoon.
Speaker 11 (52:49):
Oh how's it going.
Speaker 2 (52:50):
I'm wonderful. How about yourself?
Speaker 11 (52:53):
I can't complain I haven't been able to catch the
show this week, so I apologize.
Speaker 2 (52:57):
You've missed some absolute all time greats.
Speaker 11 (53:00):
But you know I'm always listening.
Speaker 15 (53:02):
Usually, Where have you been?
Speaker 2 (53:05):
How come you couldn't listen? What happened?
Speaker 11 (53:09):
Well? Too much work and too many work phone calls.
Speaker 2 (53:12):
I understand, I've been there, but you.
Speaker 11 (53:15):
Know, I think last year I told you and now
more of my friends are convinced that the fixes in.
As we know, back in the day, Uh, the Patriots
got every single call, and you had to beat the
Patriots and the officials. Well, it's become clearer now that
it beat the Chiefs. You have to beat the Chiefs
soundly and then have to beat the officials. Mind you,
(53:37):
I do think it was past interference, mind you. I
don't blame the guy because as we know, the Bengals
called time out. He probably shouldn't have been on the field.
They should have. I mean, they had Mike Hilton sitting
on the bench. Lewis Ridick on ESPN said, hey, you know,
the Bengals didn't play this right. They didn't drop far
enough into their coverages, and they just let guys get open,
you know, in front of them, so that you know,
(54:00):
I think as coaching, and that's the problem. But what
I feel that the fix was in is the Chiefs
had five guys blocking three, yet they were still holding
all three of those guys. I mean, what was the
deal there? I mean, Joseph Versai, I'm sure he solved
the baron hug. I mean, and to me, whether they
said or not, we know, officials in all sports have
(54:22):
long memories. The referee, Alex Kemp was certainly not gonna
throw a flag because he was still upset Jamar Chase.
So you think, I don't know, I don't know what
the umpire and the line judge were doing, but they
weren't doing anything either.
Speaker 2 (54:37):
No Joseph plaining his day he was bear hugged. I will,
I will grant you that. I will, I will grant
you that. I guess what I would say is this.
Earlier in that drive, Patrick Mahomes had a downfield pass
that Travis Kelsey called back.
Speaker 11 (54:53):
This is true, You're right, I mean, they it just
you know, when I said to have more friends the
this smell, I start to think myself, I'm not the
only one that thinks these things smell.
Speaker 2 (55:06):
Yeah, I look, I do think it was a bank
bank play. I do think it was past interference. My
biggest gripe, if you want to focus on the officials
during the game, my biggest gripe was seemingly every time
Trey Hendrickson had the left tackle he was being losing
a headlock. I mean, it took him, it took him
(55:27):
three quarters to call it right, I mean, and you
know eventually that dude got beat.
Speaker 11 (55:31):
Yeah, I mean they could have called holding where he
used some hands of the faith every play on Portray.
Speaker 2 (55:37):
Yeah, they had They had no way of stopping him.
He was he was dominant. So from an officiating standpoint,
my biggest gripe was that it took three quarters for
that to be flagged because it was blatant. I don't
know how. I don't know, and I don't I don't know,
Like the left tackle and right defensive end, they're kind
of on an island. I don't know how you missed
(55:59):
that can system. I understand missing it once, I don't
understand how you can miss it when it's happening time
and again. And I'm sure Trey had to say something
to the effect of, hey, dude, these guys wrapping his
arm around my neck, like, hey, how do you miss that? Repeat?
Speaker 11 (56:13):
But do you know do you remember the game? It
was in Houston? Uh when open house I like to
call him open house, but Marshall New House had to
start and he jj Watt was miked up. A new
House had him in a bear hug every single play,
and God loved the officials. He ate new House seat
and the Bengals to break that day. I was I
think one of the only times the Bengals I remember
(56:36):
back in the day beating the Texans and new House
had him in a bear hug every play and choke Cole.
Speaker 2 (56:42):
Yeah, I don't understand how you missed that to the
extent that they did repeatedly, because again it he was.
He was finally flagged for late the third quarter. It
took forever.
Speaker 15 (56:52):
No, I agree, And I mean.
Speaker 11 (56:53):
Like I said on that last play, don't have five
guys blocking three. Yet you have those five girl hug
and you have Zach Carter having one guy yanking on
his arm and another guy yanking on his arm from
the other direction. And I mean that should again be
obvious to see two because again there's five guys walking three.
(57:15):
We have the ref, we have the line judge, and
we had the umpire who were all in that area.
What are they doing?
Speaker 2 (57:22):
Yeah, it's a fair question. Now, you know, I don't
go as far as you do. I don't. I am.
The big takeaway for me had nothing to do with
the officials. I don't think the well, I don't think
two is we.
Speaker 11 (57:33):
Know because that here didn't get us touchdowns.
Speaker 5 (57:37):
Hiel goals don't win your game.
Speaker 2 (57:38):
You know, here's correct. Look, they got the ball twice
in the fourth quarter with the lead and couldn't extend
the lead. In one possession they gave away the lead
because Burrow fumbled, and the other one they couldn't kill
enough of the clock they couldn't score. So the game
never should have come to that. Here's what I know, Ron,
in four decades of being a sports fan, whether it
be the NFL, whether it be college basketball, the NBA baseball,
(57:59):
whatever it is college football, show me a team that's
really good on a consistent basis, that wins a lot
of championships. And I will show you a team where
fans believe that the officials are showing favoritism toward them.
Speaker 11 (58:12):
Oh well, I think you're right. I mean, we all
remember that people feel like Michael Jordan's shoved off to
get that winning shot against the Jazz, so as we
know they and you know, we know that people feel
like Kobe Lebron and yeah, looks like that got away
with things. But poor Shock, God love him, he would
get just brutalized in the pain.
Speaker 2 (58:33):
Yeah, I mean I Ron, thank you very much for
the phone call. It hope you have a great weekend.
It's good to hear from you. I just in my
life of being a sports fan, which goes back to
when I was six years old, show me a team.
You know, the Chiefs have had a mini dynasty here.
They've certainly had an AFC dynasty. They've been in for
the last five Super Bowls. Like, call it what it is.
(58:54):
Show me a team that has that level of success
in whatever sport, and I'll show you a team were
fans alleged that the officials are trying to help them.
You know, as a baseball fan, I could tell you
that in the middle of their run of fourteen consecutive
division titles, I listen to how are they the umpires?
(59:15):
They just they just give Glavin and Maddix whatever they want, Okay,
And when the Polls were winning six titles in eight years,
I Jorgy get away with murder like the Patriots. It
was the same way. Look, Bengals lost that game for
a lot of different reasons. Were there calls that went
against them or non calls that went against them that
(59:37):
should Yes, they had two possessions in the fourth quarter
with a chance to extend the lead and one with
a chance to effectively in the game. They didn't. They
settled for field goals. They scored on four of their
first drives in the first half, they were up two
to zero turnovers in the first half and led by
less than seven points. The big takeaway for me is
(59:59):
not the officiating. And no, I don't think the games
are fixed. If we did, we wouldn't watch them. And no,
I don't think the league is conspiring to have the
Chiefs win. Like, think about that. What incentive would the
NFL have? You know what, Let's take this team in
Kansas City, the same Middle America is kid. Let's say
(01:00:22):
Kansas City and make them the premier franchise in the sport.
They have a Hall of Fame coach, they have a
Hall of Fame quarterback. They've had a Hall of Fame
tight end. They have a great general manager. They have
a good, great team, and Mahomes has a lot to
do with it, obviously, but they have a great team.
Dan Claskins is great. He helps us with our fantasy
football teams. And then wow, we have like full lines.
(01:00:43):
The hell happened? It's sixteen away from five o'clock. This
is ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports station. I was rear
ended on my way home from work, same mondadventure, Dan Claskins,
it's here. It's twelve away from five o'clock Orthos, cin C,
MO Oegers Show, ESPN fifteen thirty in Jones on baseball
coming up in just a few week. Three starts tonight.
(01:01:03):
If you're a fantasy football owner, don't touch your lineup
until you hear our guy, Dan Claskins, offer you some
fantasy football help. Get Sportsinfo dot com on x at
Dan Klaskins and he's with me right now. What's going on?
Speaker 5 (01:01:17):
How we doing?
Speaker 14 (01:01:17):
Mo?
Speaker 12 (01:01:18):
How we doing? My friend?
Speaker 2 (01:01:19):
I'm doing on one league on one and one on
the other.
Speaker 12 (01:01:23):
Not too chaby, not too schaby. Now's not the time
to panic. We took got a lot of time in
fantasy and uh, I think especially if a lot of
teams make the league near playoffs in my most twelve
team league. So oh and two, let's not do crazy
thing now.
Speaker 5 (01:01:37):
You know.
Speaker 2 (01:01:37):
Here's what I was last night. I was enjoying the
ballgame at the ballpark, and uh, the guy that I'm
playing this week and one of the two leagues that
I'm in, came up to me and started talking trash.
I'm just trying to enjoy myself, man, So I hope
I pummel him by one hundred points.
Speaker 12 (01:01:50):
Yeah, it's good.
Speaker 1 (01:01:52):
Luck to that.
Speaker 2 (01:01:53):
Uh it's only two weeks, but we can take notice
some trends. Do you have any for me?
Speaker 5 (01:01:58):
Yeah, let's talk a couple.
Speaker 12 (01:02:00):
We start with Kyron Williams here, and I mean, obviously
we know about the Rams. No team's been decimated by
injuries more, but just in terms of opportunity, I mean,
this guy right now second and snap percentage eighty five percent.
He's third among all running backs and routes ran percentage
there at sixty eight point seven. Still he's just RB
twenty two and a half point ppr. So the volumes
are the production is not the beafed up line. I'm
(01:02:22):
concerned though, that it won't turn around too quickly there.
Speaker 5 (01:02:26):
JK.
Speaker 12 (01:02:26):
Dobbins, on the other hand, is really impressing me. Here's
a guy that's coming off this major injury, and you know,
I sort of dismissed him to being legitimate, but no
running back has forced more mistackles per carry through two games.
He's RB four in fantasy, and I think big things
are still ahead and help out fantasy tight ends. Everybody
(01:02:48):
I talk to you is so mad about the tight
ends and drafting them early.
Speaker 5 (01:02:51):
Travis Kelsey before.
Speaker 12 (01:02:52):
None of them are producing five touchdowns in Week one
for the whole position. Last week just three touchdowns by
tight ends, and two of them came from Darnell Washington
and Elijah Higgins, who literally are on nobody's roster.
Speaker 5 (01:03:04):
Wow.
Speaker 2 (01:03:04):
Pretty incredible. All right, let's us run through the injuries.
I guess we have to start with two and Tanger
Bellow in Miami.
Speaker 12 (01:03:13):
Yeah, I mean, dude, I got this is I've been
doing this segment with you fifteen years.
Speaker 5 (01:03:16):
I literally had to least half.
Speaker 12 (01:03:17):
The injuries off the list just to fit in the
time spot here. But Tua, I mean, we all saw
the concussion. Let's talk about what it means for fantasy.
For the remaining pieces, Tyreek Hill all the way down
as a high end wide receiver. Two on my board,
jam Lottell becomes a flex player. So I'm still leaning
on the running game a little bit. Don't like the
matchup this week in Seattle. Another quarterback injury. We're watching
(01:03:37):
two of them. Actually, Jordan Love somehow have a chance
to play. I'm not buying it. We'll see, and we're
also going to see if Justin Herbert's able to play
through that leg injuries. Staying last week at running back
Isaiah Pacheck or the biggest name on the list. We
all saw it happened in the Bengals game, but out
six to eight weeks. Kareem Hunt a hot waiver wire name.
You got all kinds of cards and steels and OJP Ryan.
(01:03:59):
I think it's one big mess and I'm avoiding in
fantasy mostly. Joe mix In obviously another ankle injury last week.
We'll see how he goes the next two days. I
expect cam Akers to be an interesting play if Mixing
has to sit. I'm not as concerned about Rashad White.
He did return from the groin injury, but he had
dinged up, so we had to keep that mind in
some lineups. He's down at my rank receiver. Good news
(01:04:22):
with a monro Saint Brown and Justin Jefferson so far
with their leg and quad issues. But AJ Brown he
missed last Monday Night's game, Probably out again this week,
maybe longer, multiple weeks two for Deebo, Samuel and Cooper
Cup with the CAF and ankle injury, respectfully, but neither
of those guys don't put on IR so maybe there's
a hope they're only going to miss a couple of weeks.
And Evan Ingram trending towards not playing on Monday night
(01:04:43):
after being a game day scratch and eleven, you know,
almost a twelve pm Eastern Sunday scratch. And I don't
think he's coming back here on Monday night either.
Speaker 2 (01:04:53):
No, doesn't appear, So Dan Klaskins, get Sportsinfo dot com.
I need your weekly studs dudgeon sleepers.
Speaker 12 (01:05:00):
Maybe this one that we two late, but uh, Colvin Kamara,
I think he's a stud again. And how about this
stat I saw from Field Gates at ESPN that last
week was his fifteenth time he was the RB one
and all Fantasy in a week in his career. No
other running back has done that in the last twenty years,
at least including la Danian Thomas and his second on
the list of fourteen. But I mean, right now, you're
(01:05:22):
talking about a guy that's got two hundred ninety six yards,
five touchdowns, forty two touches. The volumes there. I like
him again this week. First, Philly, I also like rookie
Moleak neighbors, he's my other stud through two games, twenty
point two fantasy points, ninety percent, Rolph participation thirty nine percent.
Targets areas wide receiver two through two weeks.
Speaker 15 (01:05:42):
Not going to be as easy as it was last
week versus.
Speaker 12 (01:05:44):
The Commanders, but still in a great spot here at
Cleveland on volume alone.
Speaker 5 (01:05:47):
Some duds.
Speaker 12 (01:05:48):
Let's go with Brock Purty and simply put it Dow
Christian McCarey, and Deebo Samuel in the lineup. His fantasy
ceiling is gone U, so he's outside my top fifteen
at quarterback in the game where the nine Ers are
favored by more than a touchdown LA and then George Pickens,
I mean, justin field just sinking his fantasy value. So
I don't think it's gonna be as tough this week
without Patrick's obtained. But I like the under in Pittsburgh
(01:06:10):
and the Chargers games, so I don't really like Pickings.
It's even a wide receiver. Three of my sleepers, Gino Smith,
like what he's looking like in his new offense. Bill
hasn't had a lot of touchdowns. I think they can
come this week versus Miami at home and Tony Pollard,
I mean not that he's a deep sleeper, but he's
the guy that cracks my top ten this week. The
volume's been there. Green Bay's giving up some pretty noticeable
(01:06:32):
running back performances early on in the season, and I
think Tennessee sort of a sleepy pick this week to
beat Green Bay at home.
Speaker 2 (01:06:39):
Yeah, we're on the same page there, Dan Glaskins, what's
going on at get sports info dot com?
Speaker 5 (01:06:44):
Same old stuff.
Speaker 12 (01:06:45):
You can get it all there mode for free. The
podcast if that picks the office pool, picks my studs,
duds and sleepers. I got the whole list of them.
And of course, as you mentioned in me on ex.
Speaker 2 (01:06:55):
Dan Plaskins, awesome stuff. Well chat next week, man, thanks
so much.
Speaker 12 (01:06:59):
All right, Code, we're talking about that big third win
for your team and that dude you can talk smack
back at you beat his booty.
Speaker 2 (01:07:06):
Yeah, I'm and he's zero and two, comes up to me,
starts talking.
Speaker 3 (01:07:09):
I'm just look at the.
Speaker 2 (01:07:09):
Ball game, having a good time. What are we doing?
Speaker 15 (01:07:11):
I just not been worse than a winless team.
Speaker 12 (01:07:14):
Popkinson.
Speaker 2 (01:07:14):
Yeah, I'm gonna have to talk to the commissioner. All right, Dan,
thanks so much. Thank you all right. Time for Brenneman
and Jones on baseball on ESPN fifteen thirty. Cincinnati's ESPN
fifteen thirty.
Speaker 16 (01:07:27):
Traffic from the UC Health Traffic Center. The University of
Cincinnati Cancer Center has opened the most comprehensive blood cancer
center in the nation. The future of cancer care is here.
Call five one, three, five eight five uc CC. You
should watch out for an accident that's on both shoulders
of northbound seventy five after Sharon Road. That's causing some
hold up there, and we've got stop and go traffic
(01:07:49):

from Dana Avenue to Stuart Road. And you're looking at
a twenty minute delay on northbound seventy five at seventy four.
I'm Nicole with traffic.
Speaker 1 (01:07:59):
This report already is sponsored by No One covers the
Bengals like ESPN fifteen thirty, Cincinnati's sports station What's Up.
Speaker 2 (01:08:09):
Eight at for five ESPN fifteen thirty, Thank you for
joining us. It's the bud Light five o'clock Happy Hour.
Thanks to our friends at bud Light. We are fifty
two minutes away from me leaving here and going and
having a bud light one sounds amazing. Right now, it's
the Ortho Cincy Moeger Show on ESPN fifteen thirty Good Bengals.
(01:08:29):
Content from our buddy Robert Winstrap of Cincinnati Magazine Rita's column.
I tweeted out the link at moegar. He joins us
in just about ten minutes, and Sean Kilpatrick goes into
the James P. Kelly Athletics Hall of Fame at the
University of Cincinnati tomorrow night. In fact, he's going to
be with Dan Horde and Marty Gilliard tonight at the
tap Room at Ryan Geist for a Cincy Rains event
(01:08:52):
that's going to be really good. But Sean's going to
join us sk one of my top five all time
favorite UC basketball players. He joins us at five. Cannot
wait for that. In the meantime, we're not supposed to
start the hour by taking phone calls, but folks have
been waiting patiently, and I'm not going to make him
wait anymore, or at least I'm not going to make
Scott wait anymore. Scott, You're on ESPN fifteen thirty Good Afternoon, Scott.
(01:09:15):
How you doing No, I'm great man, what's.
Speaker 14 (01:09:16):
Go I am assuming you're sitting down correct.
Speaker 2 (01:09:20):
Yes, So I live in Centerelle.
Speaker 14 (01:09:24):
You probably may or may not have remembered that I
pulled into my driveway and I was getting ready to
turn off my car, and I said, holy blank, the
station is still on.
Speaker 2 (01:09:43):
Always a positive from our perspective.
Speaker 14 (01:09:47):
Yes, city, Well, it's not that I turn it off.
It's that I can never hear it at my house.
Speaker 2 (01:09:53):
Wow, maybe we.
Speaker 14 (01:09:57):
They something must have happened, because it definitely was boosted.
I'm usually always listening to it from the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 2 (01:10:06):
Well, we I do appreciate you doing that. So on
Monday we had quote tower issues, So for folks who
were trying to listen on AM radio, we were not
entirely off the air, but there was a lot of
static and in a lot of places where you could
typically hear fifteen thirty, you couldn't. And so what I'm
(01:10:27):
guessing is, and I haven't talked to anybody about this,
what I'm guessing is when they went and fixed it,
that they maybe made some improvements that has maybe perhaps
allowed our fifty thousand watch signal to be even stronger.
Speaker 14 (01:10:40):
It's not going to make your friend, kinner any happier.
Speaker 2 (01:10:47):
That's all right, there's enough. There's enough listeners for everybody.
Fifteen thirty fifteen thirty. The signal points south, and so
I could tell you, like you could you could keep
going south and hear us for a while. But if
you your dog is listening. But if you go north, Amazon,
it could be it could be sometimes problematic. Do you
(01:11:08):
have to go talk to the Amazon guy? You have
to become a package?
Speaker 5 (01:11:10):
I do not.
Speaker 14 (01:11:11):
I I too, was at the game last night and
I had an experience that I don't know that everybody
knows is available to have. You Have you been in
the handlebar the Handlebar lounge.
Speaker 15 (01:11:29):
I have.
Speaker 2 (01:11:29):
It's been been a couple of years, but I have.
It's it's awesome.
Speaker 14 (01:11:33):
It is awesome. So we're friends or we grew up
with the Murphy's Sean and so there were a bunch
of people from Dayton and he got the handlebar eighty
bucks for a ticket and there's all the food that
you want and even bigger, especially for somebody like you
(01:11:56):
that I know likes to enjoy a cocktail or two.
Speaker 5 (01:12:01):
Drink tickets.
Speaker 2 (01:12:02):
Yeah, yeah, And if you go with somebody who doesn't
quite enjoy cocktails like I do. You can take their.
Speaker 14 (01:12:09):
Tickets, that's right. Yeah, we came home with seven of them.
Speaker 2 (01:12:15):
Pretty good, pretty good. No, it's uh, it's a good deal.
It's a it's a good view of the game. You're
not going to sit in a traditional seat. But yeah,
it's it's been since twenty twenty two that I've I've
had that experience. But yeah, it's like I couldn't remember
the exact price, but once I factored in all the
food which is included, and all the beverages which are included,
(01:12:36):
that's that's a pretty damn good deal.
Speaker 15 (01:12:38):
Well, you just do a beer.
Speaker 14 (01:12:42):
Let's say you're getting I don't think I don't drink beer,
so I'm not sure, but I'm thinking they're twelve to
fifteen bucks.
Speaker 2 (01:12:51):
Uh, yeah, I know, like ten seventy five or something.
I should know that. I'll tell you this. I'll tell
you this. So I was in the handlebar area last
not the handlemar or the bow Tie bar area last night,
the upper deck, and I bought I went with two
(01:13:12):
buddies of mine and I bought the I bought the
first round of beers, three beers for forty four bucks.
That so you know whatever, it's ballpark prices. You know
that going in fine, So you paid eighty dollars that
included your ticket and all your drinks. I paid forty four.
Now I bought a seven dollars ticket last night and
just went and stood so ticket, and then I got
(01:13:34):
two hot dogs. That's thirteen fifty. So basically twenty fifty
plus forty four. That's a round of beers. That's three beers,
two hot dogs, and my ticket for sixty four in change.
Let's call it sixty five bucks. Or as you paid
eighty and that included all your food, your admission, and
(01:13:55):
six beers. Scott, you win.
Speaker 14 (01:14:00):
I just thought that that was on a well kept secret,
that that you could do something like that.
Speaker 2 (01:14:07):
Now you've just you've just shared it with the world.
To down next year, the Handlebar is going to be
sold out.
Speaker 14 (01:14:14):
I won't I won't not buy a Handlebar ticket going forward.
Speaker 2 (01:14:18):
The hell of the deal pretty good.
Speaker 14 (01:14:20):
But I also have to one other little uh, I
guess a good thing for you. Yeah, I really appreciate,
as somebody who competes with them directly you not mentioning
the name of the place where the Cincinnati Bengals play well.
Speaker 2 (01:14:41):
It's a little bit of a policy on this show. Scott.
Speaker 11 (01:14:43):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (01:14:44):
I know, I know you're I know. I'm just telling
you you're welcome. I know you work for the competitor.
Speaker 5 (01:14:50):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (01:14:51):
Our our policy on this show is a competitor. Our
policy on this show, for the most part is, UH,
if if you want your name mentioned, then you can
support the show and that company from whatever. I'm sure
it's a great company. I obviously no issue with them
selling the naming rights, but if they want to be
(01:15:12):
mentioned on this show, they could do what our advertisers
do and that's paid to be mentioned on this show.
Speaker 14 (01:15:17):
I totally understand and appreciate it that stance that you have.
Speaker 2 (01:15:23):
That's our stand, Scott, I gotta run man. Thank you.
That has been a policy of ours, not for the
entirety of this show, and there are times where in
an official capacity we will mention it. But our policy,
quite frankly, has been, you know, we have companies that
support us and advertise with us and work with us
(01:15:44):
and make this show possible, and they pay for that,
for their name to be mentioned and for their spots
to air. And I have no issue with any any
naming rights deal ever. I have no problem with any
of those. I would have a problem if they ever
saw the naming rights the Nippert Stadium, quite frankly, but
they haven't. But some of those companies that attach their
(01:16:06):
name to sports venues, I'm sure they're awesome companies to
work for, great companies to do business with. You know,
I was approached by somebody with the company that puts
their name on the soccer stadium. Well, ever, mention this good.
You don't support us, So we're gonna mention the names
of the companies that do. I don't say that with
(01:16:27):
any ill will. It's just for our show. That's how
it works. Other hosts will have a different policy. Many
will have no policy. But I prefer to mention the
names of the companies that work with us. And well,
the company that puts its name on the Bengal Stadium
does not. Robert Wintrob does. He's awesome. He joins us
(01:16:49):
next on ESPN fifteen thirty, Cincinnati Sports Station. This is
ESPN fifteen thirty on Thursday's. Right around this time, we're
joined by our buddy. Robert Wintrob is weekly. Bengal's column
at Cincinnati Magazine is excellent. The The current edition is out.
You can go find it at Cincinnatimagazine dot com. I've
also tweeted out a link go and get it. Rob
(01:17:10):
kind enough to join us. As always, what is going on.
Speaker 4 (01:17:14):
Not too much, just still trying to get over what
was not only the worst call in NFL history, but
maybe you know sports history.
Speaker 2 (01:17:21):
Wow, Okay, now was the worst call the pass interference
or the decision to not rush more than three or
the decision to have a guy in his eighth NFL
snap on the field? What was the worst call?
Speaker 4 (01:17:32):
Yeah, well, in terms of that, I was being hyperbolic.
There have been one or two other worst ones, and
it's just it breaks your back when a penalty like that.
Speaker 2 (01:17:42):
Yes, the game, you know, it's not really so much
about what they call is right or not. Gosh, I
hate to see it decide the game.
Speaker 4 (01:17:48):
Uh, you know, rushing three guys against Patrick Mahomes is
what the Bengals do. I mean, that's how they've you know,
really stuffed them, especially in the second halves of all
of these contests they've had that have entered Bengals lore
over the years now since they've been our trivals. And
he can't really blame him for going back to the well,
especially fourth and long. I mean, you know, it's like, okay,
(01:18:10):
in this one scenario, Mahomes escaped the rush and had
a little bit of extra time, but you know, they
still got close to him with three rushers and Lord
to the point you want to have as many pass
defenders and ridiculous, you know, fourth and sixteen situation like that,
having the John Anthony out there. I mean again, listen,
he's a rookie, but he earned the trust of the
(01:18:31):
coaches and deserved or proved that he couldn't be out there.
He you know, he actually made a good play, covering
a lot of ground to get over to the ball,
and he was, you know whatever, a couple of milliseconds
too early, a little hyper aggressive, you know, because maybe
he was a rookie or just that's because of the
nature of the game. I don't know. I don't blame
him particularly on that. It was just a confluence of
(01:18:52):
bad luck that really, you know, gave us another bad
taste in our mouth when it comes to Kansas City.
And that's why, you know, the fact that they get
all these calls is why everybody hates them.
Speaker 2 (01:19:04):
All right, I'm going to read a passage from this
week's column. Okay, fair enough, you're right. Can I dare
ask the unthinkable question and revisit the exhausting, mean dominated
debate from the spring of twenty twenty one, would you,
as a fan base, if offered the chance right now
for a straight up trade deal Chase meaning Jamar for
(01:19:26):
Detroit Star tackle and would be Bengal draft d Piney Soul. Now,
you know I have to aggregate this, which means I
have to go on the internet and say that Robert
Wintrob wants to trade Jamar Chase.
Speaker 4 (01:19:38):
That's what I'm saying, baby. Now, I'm not saying that
the Bengals are not certainly saying that. I don't think
either team would really do it. It's just, you know,
I thought exercise isn't a fun one, especially coming off
a bitter cheat that I wanted to put out of
my mind as quickly as possible.
Speaker 2 (01:19:55):
And it gets back to sort of the reason why.
Speaker 4 (01:19:58):
I admitted they wanted to Bengals to draft Sewel in
the first place. Not that I'm you know, unhappy with
the way things turned out, obviously, but you know, tackles
of that quality are much more rare than tackles than
wide receivers are. Even if Chase's quality, they tend to
cost less, They tend to have much quieter contract negotiations,
(01:20:19):
and Trent Williams being the exception, I suppose.
Speaker 2 (01:20:22):
And overall they don't usually have the deva.
Speaker 4 (01:20:25):
Personalities that craved the spotlight. You know, we didn't really
see Jamorrow for the past three years, and we never
even thought about that draft decision until all of a
sudden we are now. And because he's not signed, and
because you know, he got hip dropped and saw his
football life flash before his eyes without signing that rich
second contract, and who can blame them? But you know,
(01:20:50):
maybe the bigger question is not whether you would trade
Chase for Sewel, but whether you would say both sides
have to get back to the negotiating table and forget
all this in season. We're not doing it nonsense and
get you know, pen to paper and name on the
DEATA line.
Speaker 5 (01:21:05):
Because even though we all thought.
Speaker 4 (01:21:07):
Chase could compartmentalize this and we compartmentalize this fan, it's
clearly affecting on the field this two weeks in a row,
he's taken kind of the selfish criminally now that's crossed
the team and boy, you know you hate to see that,
and it's not the kind of thing you usually see
that of tackles, which is what got me thinking of
Chase per still a thing in the first place. Obviously
that's just you know, kind of a kind of an
(01:21:30):
internet thing to do just to get you through the
football this week. But you know, I think it's worth
you know, thinking about and discussing, and certainly you want
to see Chase improved his attitude and try and put
this whole contract thing out of his mind, if that's
even possible.
Speaker 2 (01:21:45):
Yeah, no, there's there's certainly something said about that Robert
Win Trumps Cincinnati Magazine. T Higgins practice today, So we're
inching closer to seeing him in game action, and you know,
time will tell how he reacts to practicing today, how
extends they use them. But if there was a positive,
and there were more than one, but if there was
a positive from the game on Sunday in Kansas City,
(01:22:06):
you saw what the Bengals tight ends can do, and
then you add that to what we know Jamar Chase
can do, what we believe t Higgins can do, and
I think it's fun to talk about personnel groupings and
so walk me through kind of the preferred way you'd
like to see them use their guys, assuming Tea comes
back on Monday.
Speaker 4 (01:22:23):
Yeah, well, it's what we talked about last week, really,
which is that just the thing you took away from
the New England game was that they were at their
best at twelve personnel, which is obviously two tight ends,
one running back and not necessarily the three wide receiver
personnel that they are so accustomed to playing all these years,
and that showed out in Kansas City again. And they
have you know, three guys in Trew Sample, Mikasiki and
(01:22:47):
now Eric Hahl, who are really distinct players who give
defenses different looks and different things to prepare for. And
you don't necessarily know what the Bengals are going to
do when one or all are on the field.
Speaker 15 (01:22:59):
Sorry, and nots in the background.
Speaker 2 (01:23:01):
But you know that's.
Speaker 4 (01:23:03):
Important, I think, and it's important for the Bengals. We
talked about this before that they're in sort of a
transition season, right and you know going ahead.
Speaker 5 (01:23:11):
They're not going to have t Higgins after this year,
forget about next week.
Speaker 3 (01:23:14):
So what you want to see out of the team.
Speaker 4 (01:23:16):
You want to see them try and win other ways,
and by playing with multiple tight ends and multiple formations
and giving defenses much more different looks to prepare for
that can only do well. And then when you have
Chase and Higgins on the field at the same time,
regardless that your tight ends are, you're always a threat obviously,
and it just maximizes that threat.
Speaker 12 (01:23:36):
And I think that's the way to go from here.
Speaker 2 (01:23:38):
How is it time to flip flop how they use
Zach Mows and Chase Brown.
Speaker 4 (01:23:44):
Probably, I don't know if I'm ready to go that
far just yet. I mean, you know, it's only been
a couple of games, and most you know, by just
success rate, which is only one analytical stat out of many,
he's actually been pretty good. He's got a better success
rate than Joe Mixon, for example. You know, listen again
with the multi I think there's a couple of things
(01:24:04):
that play here. One and we've talked about this before again,
you know, neither of these guys are particularly big that
the classic Bell cow backs. It's a very long season
and they're not deep and running back, and they want
to preserve both guys, right, So you don't want to
you know, sort of use either one in that capacity
much less declare yourself a number one back just yet.
Speaker 5 (01:24:26):
I don't think.
Speaker 4 (01:24:27):
And you know, also they don't know exactly how they
want to play, and they're still working things out. As
we just talked about the tight end and which guy
fits the way they want to run better, and you know,
Brown's been mostly an inside zone both players have been
inside zone running backs. Is really so far as that's
the way they want to go forward, is that fit
the multiple tight end looks best?
Speaker 5 (01:24:46):
I don't think they really know yet.
Speaker 2 (01:24:47):
I don't think they're.
Speaker 4 (01:24:48):
Gonna all of a sudden, like you say, flip flop.
Speaker 2 (01:24:51):
Their usage rate just now. We could definitely see that
as the.
Speaker 4 (01:24:54):
Season goes along. But at the moment, you know, they
paid the money to Moss and Brown is still in
a rookie deal. I think that's the you know, the
sort of pecking order to go forward, at least for
the next couple of weeks.
Speaker 2 (01:25:04):
All right, one more because I value your opinion on
all things football. The Internet debate of the day started
this morning when mel Kiper went on TV. The Great
mel Kuiper went on TV and said that the two
safety high the two high safety defense is ruining the
NFL because offense has stagnated, teams are having a hard
(01:25:26):
time throwing deep, and he says it's ruining the most
popular sports league in America. Do you think the NFL
should ban the two high safety defense.
Speaker 4 (01:25:34):
I wait, I thought my revisiting Chase and Sewell was.
Speaker 15 (01:25:38):
Tell me, was mel kiper fair enough?
Speaker 4 (01:25:42):
Well?
Speaker 15 (01:25:42):
Listen, I mean, I know baseball took.
Speaker 4 (01:25:45):
The steps of banning the defensive shifts in order to
juice offense, but I mean there's been so many every
single rule change in football, for one thing has gone
the offense's favorite. And now two weeks into a season,
it's not like, you know, they haven't been playing too
high safeties for decades, you know in the NFL, and
mel was what harkening back to the seventies when everything
(01:26:05):
was either a long bomb or an incompletion and you know,
quarterbacks had fifty eight percent completion percentages and I was
considered all pro level.
Speaker 2 (01:26:14):
I don't know.
Speaker 4 (01:26:15):
And you know the other thing to consider is that
in those glorious days of the seventies, you had basically
safeties bulludgeting everybody who came over the middle with you
know forearm shivers and blows to the head, and a
lot of the reason why the game was so violent
is because you didn't have, you know, such a wide
open game, and you didn't have defenses playing like that
(01:26:36):
in two high looks where they safeties were so worried
about going over the top they could crowd the line
of scrimmage and just commit mayhem. I don't think any
anybody wants to see.
Speaker 3 (01:26:45):
The lead go back to that.
Speaker 4 (01:26:47):
Well, maybe occasionally, but most mostly we don't want to
see the lead go back to that. And you know,
a couple of weeks of bad offensive and bad quarterback
play because of a lot of young quarterbacks around the league,
not necessarily all of a sudden.
Speaker 2 (01:27:02):
Pull the uh pull the parish parish you court.
Speaker 4 (01:27:05):
Much as I respect Mail, he's been with a bit.
Speaker 2 (01:27:07):
Reactionary in this case, I would agree with that. We'll
talk next week. Thank you as always. Yeah, I love it, Mal, Yeah, Mo,
And I've been calling many, many, many may worse things
than that. Nah, Thank you so much, since I am magazine.
Sean kill Patrick joins us next on ESPN fifteen thirty.
Speaker 1 (01:27:26):
You've been listening to football in Minetti on the official
home of the Bengals. Cincinnati's ESPN fifteen thirty.
Speaker 2 (01:27:34):
The great Shawn kill Patrick, who's with us now, describe
for me the moment you found out you're going to
be a UC Hall of Famer.
Speaker 9 (01:27:42):
Well, I was, It's crazy because I was just training,
like practicing and training with children and then I got
the call. And then as soon as I got the call,
it just broke down. I just started crying, like it
was it was one of the I mean, I guess,
but especially for that day, it was it was so
uploot and even hear that and then I mean, just
to see a random number calling my phone, I was like, hello,
(01:28:06):
who is it? And then they told me everything and
it was just like wow, like it was amazing.
Speaker 5 (01:28:10):
Man.
Speaker 2 (01:28:11):
So do the kids know, I mean, like when you're
when you're working with kids, do they know how good
you were?
Speaker 9 (01:28:18):
It's funny because I mean, they end up we end
up working with each other, and then like the very
next time they they then come to the workout, it's like, wow,
we was just watching you on either YouTube or Instagram
and it's like, man, like we didn't know it was
like this. So I always let them know. I mean,
even though I stopped playing the game and I'm teaching
(01:28:42):
you guys. I could still I could still do it.
Speaker 2 (01:28:44):
Yeah, sure, yeah, I can still do it. Yeah. Well,
it's it's really cool. I don't know, I don't know
how much time you've had to reflect. And look, it's
it's been a while. It's been ten years since you
left U. See, we've talked about your career at the
University of Cincinnati, and maybe this weekend, whether it's you know,
you with Dan Horde tonight or you know, making your
speech tomorrow at the at the induction ceremony, I'm sure
(01:29:06):
you've had time to reflect. What sort of things do
you think about when you think of your career at you.
Speaker 5 (01:29:10):
See, It's crazy.
Speaker 9 (01:29:14):
I mean I haven't really It's even more crazy that
I haven't even really wrote my speech all the way
down yet, because, like you said, it's been ten years
of me just trying to recall and rethink everything. It's
you know what I mean when I think about this city.
I mean, especially when I came in to the to
(01:29:35):
Cincinnati's the other day and I was walking through the
airport and I was on the phone with Justin Jackson,
and I said to myself, I mean He also said, too, Yo,
you remember you used to walk through these air light
through the airport just to get to school and going
through the process and emotions of basically being a student
at U SEE and also an athlete. So when I
(01:29:56):
was actually walking through it, I was like, man, I
can't even recall what happened in the last ten years
that I can really actually remember, except for I mean
obviously our games and the tough moments and even.
Speaker 5 (01:30:11):
With coach and everything.
Speaker 9 (01:30:12):
But when you look at the other side of it,
it's like just being a regular student or a regular
player walking through it. Like I said, the airport, it's
like it brings back memories that I think I can
never really ever forget.
Speaker 2 (01:30:27):
I mean, it's like Cincinnati.
Speaker 9 (01:30:29):
It truly it's grown me and groomed me to be
a man, and it taught me how to basically be
like something totally different than what I was actually growing
up to be. And I mean, once, like I said,
once you get here and once everything is basically set
in stone, like you're here, you're playing, and you gotta
(01:30:51):
get comfortable with everything, I mean everything, it became.
Speaker 2 (01:30:54):
So much more easier.
Speaker 9 (01:30:56):
I mean, the people they gravitated to me, towards me
and the crazy way I mean it was, it was
pretty much everyone here is pretty much like family. So once,
like I said, I mean, it's amazing that you can.
Speaker 5 (01:31:10):
Really honestly called back and go back ten years.
Speaker 2 (01:31:12):
But it's, like I said, it's.
Speaker 9 (01:31:14):
So hard to really go back and recall every moment.
Speaker 2 (01:31:17):
Yeah, it's interesting. Whenever I talk with athletes about their time,
whether it be playing professionally or at a school, they
don't talk so much about games, you know, they don't
talk so much talk about moments. They talk about the
stuff that you just reference, right, the experience, maybe something
as silly as walking through an airport, or the relationships
that you forage with your teammates that last forever, which
(01:31:38):
is really cool. I've got to think there's got to
be for you. You know, you had a great individual career,
and we could talk about what you did statistically. But
you get to UC and the basketball program is being rebuilt,
but it's not where it needs to be. By the
time you leave, it's back right, and and there are
a lot of people that had something to do with that.
A lot of your teammates, a lot of guys who
(01:31:59):
came before you. Obviously Mick Cronin and the coaching staff.
But when you look back, I would imagine there has
to be some degree of pride that, yeah, you know what,
that that program wasn't where it needed to be, and
by the time I left it was.
Speaker 5 (01:32:13):
Yeah.
Speaker 9 (01:32:14):
I mean, it's crazy because when I first got there,
and I was actually talking with coach Miller about this
yesterday at dinner, and we spoke about like like the
process of basically how it went for me, like when
I first got a notice or when I first basically
heard that somebody was in Boston. When I was playing
(01:32:37):
at my prep school, I not the name Prepp and
Fitsburg Mast. We had a game up in Boston and
they told me that somebody was here from Cincinnati to
see me. So when I went there and I basically
got interviewed, it was it was Dan. It was Dan,
and they were basically talking like you just said about
how the program needs to basically get reshaped and rebuilt,
(01:32:59):
like they're going through a process. So when I got
here a verb, I mean, when I committed here, and
when I got here, an coach he told me basically like, yo,
we have a plan to red shirt too. I was like, what,
like un hurt, like because I just came from prep school.
Speaker 5 (01:33:17):
I saw.
Speaker 9 (01:33:17):
I'm like, no way, I'm not doing like at all.
It was to the point where I was really honestly
about to just call my mom and tell her to
send me home. But she was like, now you got
to really pay attention to what coach is saying, and
they obviously know that this is good for you and
it can also help the program. So I never looked
at it, especially when I read shirt it like oh,
(01:33:40):
I might be getting saved for later or anything like that.
I was so young that I wanted to just play
right then and there, and I didn't understand what like
was either what was happening until like the season and
everything started going on, and then when it was my
time to play, that's what happened. I played as hard
(01:34:00):
as I could every night and just made sure that
you know what I mean, if I'm going to make
a decision like this or I did make a decision
in terms of red shirting. Every time I get out there,
that has to be in the back of my mind.
I red shirted, and that's an extra it's an extra motivation,
especially for me. Anything that I can use to my
motivation as an advantage. That's what I did, especially at
(01:34:23):
UC SO it was amazing, man. I mean it's I
still get sales every time I even think about basically
being here now.
Speaker 2 (01:34:32):
Sean Kilpatrick going into the James P. Kelly Athletics Hall
of Fame at the University of Cincinnati tomorrow night. There
is a lot more of that conversation we were just
getting started. We'll have it for you on the iHeartRadio app.
I'll put a link on social media. And by the way,
Sean's going to be at the tap room at rang
Geist tonight with Dan Hordon along with Marty Gillier. It's

We'll see you have an awesome weekend. This is ESPN

Speaker 9 (01:35:52):
Mom
