Speaker 1 (00:00):
Five twenty.

Speaker 2 (00:00):
On Wednesdays, we chat with our friend Richard Skinner from
Local twelve and Local twelve dot com and X at
Local twelve. Skinny, he's with us now. He's been busy.
How's it going.

Speaker 3 (00:14):
I'm good, Mo, how are you?

Speaker 2 (00:15):
And I'm I'm wonderful. I'm wonderful. Got all these players
coming back from injury. I couldn't be more excited. Bengals
are underdogs at home on Sunday. The offense is cooking.
I'm more optimistic than most.

Speaker 3 (00:28):
That's a fair point. I mean, listen, I'm sure you
watched the Sunday night game, like we all did. That
offense on Sunday night was ridiculous. It was just it
was almost, for a period of time, indefensible. It was
you want to run between the tackles. Sure you want
to run a Redotson, Sure you want to run yestersill
on a counter, Sure you want to stay They can

(00:50):
throw a tight end behind the first level or you know,
name a wide receiver, they flowers whomever. Sure, And I
just I was, I was really stupefied by it.

Speaker 1 (01:03):
Yeah, it's leak is a weird.

Speaker 3 (01:05):
Week, It's a weird league. B I mean that's the
part of it. And the flip side is the Bengals
offense is cooking at the moment. And I book that
is they scored what's seventy what sixty seven points in
two weeks? Do that right?

Speaker 1 (01:17):
Seventy and sixty seven points?

Speaker 3 (01:19):
Yes, two weeks, and I think gave less of stuff
on the field on top of that.

Speaker 1 (01:25):
Yeah, well you'll up.

Speaker 3 (01:28):
Listen, you give me the old day of Give me
a twenty seventeen win and I'm good. We ain't there.
But give me a thirty eight to three five game.
I'm live with that.

Speaker 2 (01:37):
You know what's interesting though, is I mean you are
right the Baltimore offense on Saturday. For those who didn't
see a lot of folks saw Derrick Henry's long run
eighty seven yards, okay, fine, looked at the yardage total,
saw what he did per carry, But it was the
variety of ways they got him the football. It was
the variety of things they did and when defensively you're

(01:58):
having a hard time doing the base, that to me
is what what is what makes the is what gives
me some apprehension because it wasn't just them lining up
and running people over. It was they were using some
creativity and now on Sunday in Cincinnati, Baltimore gets a
defense that it feels like they can't do the basics.

Speaker 3 (02:16):
That said, and I injuries are never an excuse, but
at times they are an excuse. Uh. You know, Zach
Carter and J two Failee, God bless them on a
purplet some day. If everybody that was supposed to be
in your defensive tackle rotation was healthy, those guys are
be an active and so you've played literally to inactive
guys and they've kind of played like to an active guy.

(02:36):
Two active guys like inactive literally in the moment J
to Bailey, probably not as much as Zach Carter, but
when B. J. Hillood shown Rangkment turn your lineup. In
the first two games, your defense was good. Give up
thirteen points to New England three because of the Charlie
Jones fumble, so we'll take that out of the mix.
Give up nineteen to Kansas City, and they're not as
dynamic as they've been, but it's still patrical Hombs in
Kansas City. But so there was some of the others

(02:59):
score and you're not getting show Rangers back this week.
In my opinion, it's close. So I talked to BJ
in the locker room. He practiced, he said it went well.
He feels like he's gonna play on Sunday. That's a
positive sign. I do think Miles Murphy's probably trending to
play more than McKinley Jackson just because McKinley didn't. He
didn't really have much of a training camp. I think

(03:19):
he had three practices something like that. And while he
was full today and Miles was full, I just don't
know if McKinley's trending in that direction. If he does,
we're good. So you're getting some pieces back that you
desperately needed. And I do think that has been a
big reason until it god hitting a wound slump. Those

(03:41):
are the two things I can point to.

Speaker 1 (03:42):
How long is the cam Taylor britt leash on Sunday.

Speaker 3 (03:47):
I don't think it's long, and it couldn't be. And
I think the most pleas on Sunday he the leash
wasn't long there either, And you know, maybe this is
a kid that looks and says, you know, I'm my eye.
Discipline is where it needs to be. I'm trying to
bait guys that it looks like God, if he's trying
to bait guys into interceptions, like I'm gonna give this

(04:10):
guy a release and I'm fast enough. You want to
try to throw it over my head, good luck to you,
because gott catch up intercepted. I mean even even the
one he intercepted on the one he got called for
a holding family for that's kind of what it looked like.
And then he did pick it off and he's like, no,
don't think you'll be positive reinforcement here, my guy. You're
getting beat because you're trying to cheat the game. When

(04:32):
he plays, will gain the right way, the way he's
supposed to play, the way he's supposed play. Fundamentally, he's
a really good quarter. I just think some of that's
gotten away from him for whatever reason. That is, maybe
the Kansas didn't want to hand in interception made him
go I can do anything you can in the moment,
but you don't want those moments to be fewer and
hard between. You want to be sound and solid. And

(04:53):
when he's sounded solid, we're not even throwing to a
side hatty. So I do think that it's just the
mini slump. I really believe that. But if for whatever reason,
he starts to struggles. There's no reason to leave the
leave slump because I thought DJ Turner play pretty good
on Sunday.

Speaker 1 (05:10):
Yeah, you know that. There are a lot of folks
who in the in the secondary.

Speaker 2 (05:12):
I want to see some some Jordan battle, and I
don't feel like we're that much closer to seeing him.

Speaker 1 (05:17):
Am I wrong?

Speaker 3 (05:17):
No, No, you're not wrong. But I do think this.
I think Jordan's a smart enough kid. I think he's
gonna finally that it's gonna click that. Okay, this is
what I need to do. This is what a pro does.
This is what a pro does to get ready physically, mentally,
all of those things. I'm watching bon Bell do it,

(05:37):
and I'm watching The Bond. I'm gonna say this in
a playway. I'm watching old man von Bell, who really
doesn't have a lot left in the tank, do it
and try to do it to the highest degree. And
if you can't respect the way he prepares for a game,
well then you're just dumb. And I don't think Jordan is.
I think Jordan sees that and realizes this is what
a pro does to prepare, this is what they're asking

(05:58):
me to do, and if I want to get on
the field, and chances are because Vaughan is a little
bit long in the tooth, and I think you would
agree with that watching him play. This is how I'm
gonna get on the field. And if he doesn't, well,
then shame on on him. And I just don't think
it'll be a shame on him moment. But to your point, yeah,
I don't think it's something it's gonna be anytime soon.

Speaker 2 (06:17):
I do, barring injury, of course, over under a number
of Pro Bowls Eric All makes I'll Saturday at eight
and a half, you go it over under.

Speaker 3 (06:25):
I'm going under, but not by much. It's funny. I
talked to him today for a bit and I'm gonna
do a story on him on Thursday. I think he
has been This is gonna sound like an overstatement, and
it probably is. This is this hyper Bowl, its its finest.
I think he's been the key to unlocking this offense
in many ways, from run blocking to the versatility of

(06:46):
where you can put him, to his past catching ability.
I think it's unlocked a lot of different things for
this offense. And this was a guy I thought when
they drafted him, and I mean that I thought he
was a redshirt year for him, Like, hey, good pick
I get it. Fourth round tight end, you've got to
kind of a tight You got a crowded tight end room.
Do you really need him in theory this year? Uh,
he's the best all around tight end and he's not
even a close second. That's not to knock on Mike

(07:08):
the sity's the receiver. That's try to knocking on Grew
Sample as a blocker, best all around tight end and
it's not even close.

Speaker 1 (07:15):
They haven't had anybody like him in my adult life.

Speaker 2 (07:18):
They've had good tight ends, They've had tight ends who
are good at certain specific skills. They've got one now
and Drew Sample. I don't I can't recall anybody who
has looked like Eric Hall, certainly this early in his career.

Speaker 3 (07:31):
I had somebody bring him to me last night, Rodney holding. Yeah, okay,
so let's go back to Rodney holding. I'm good with that.

Speaker 1 (07:39):
Yeah, fun comparison.

Speaker 2 (07:41):
All right, Uh, thank you as always be any time.

Speaker 1 (07:45):
All right, man, there you go.

Speaker 2 (07:46):
