Speaker 1 (00:00):
This week Skyline Chili Crossbound Showdown game is being called
by many names.

Speaker 2 (00:03):
VI Area high School football Anderson's eight no hosting eight
to oh Win Woods.

Speaker 1 (00:08):
This game kicks off at seven o'clock tomorrow night. Division
one commits all over the place. It's going to be
televised by Spectrum Sports. The man in charge of the
Skyline Chili Crossdown Showdown is our guy Tom Gamble, nice
enough to preview the game. This should be a heck
of a game tomorrow night.

Speaker 3 (00:25):
Yeah, it really should be mowing. It's week nine, hard
to believe in the high school season, and some people
will be going to wait a minute, wait a minute,
Wyoming's at Indian Hill, Lakota East is at Lakota West Saturday,
Lake would say Edward's at Moler. They're right. There are
some other good games, but this one, this one is
hard to ignore. I mean, these are two teams that
are both undefeated. And went Woods now, which won the

(00:47):
twenty twenty one Division two state championship and has competed
at the Division two level. They got bumped up this
year to D one, so that'll be interesting compostseason time.
Currently in Division one, Region four, the regional computer rankings.
Bowler is won. Went Woods's two, so Anderson which stays two.
They are in D two Region eight, they're number one.

(01:10):
So I mean these two teams eight to er overall,
seven to zero in the Eastern Cinnati Conference. But it's
it's really so dramatically different the teams. Anderson fast paced,
Evan Dryer, known for offense, and they got some really
good weapons. They throw the ball all around. They're averaging
fifty one points a game. Now, some could argue maybe
a little untested. Now they both played really the same

(01:33):
teams in the league for seven of the eight weeks.
Winton Woods on the flip side, they are only They've
only given up thirty five points in eight games. I mean,
this is a defense and went Woods had some outstanding defenses.
But a lot of people say this might be the
Warriors' best ever. So it's now I say that and Anderson's
allowing seven points a game. I mean they're winning by
forty four to forty five points a game on average,

(01:56):
so you know this is god. But Winton Woods has
got the great defense upfront. In the backfield, Anderson's going
to try and throw it and move it and all that.
This could be. I think it's going to be relatively
low scoring because I think the defenses are that good.
But this has got the makings. And you know, Mo,
you know how it is on any level, high school,
college or pro, sometimes the build up out you know,

(02:17):
far exceeds what actually occurs on the field. I don't
think that's going to be the case with this one.

Speaker 1 (02:22):
Here's what I want to know to me, this is
the central storyline of this game. Can Winton Woods force
Anderson head coach Evan Dryer into a place where he
actually at least considers punting.

Speaker 3 (02:33):
Well, he does punt now, So it's funny you ask that,
and people when you tell him this, they go, huh No.
When he was at Western Brown and was the head coach,
he literally didn't punt. Then he went over to o'kills
and I can remember he was playing against when o'k
kill still played in the series against Elder, he didn't
punt against Elder. And I think over time there was
this started. There was a gentleman's name. I shouldn't know it,

(02:55):
but he was in Arkansas high school football. Literally, this
guy never punted, and Evan will tell you it's he
said it's not an emotional thing. It's a math equation.
But I think over time, you yes that the bottom
line is he will punt against Winton Woods, because if
you don't, you're you're really in trouble. I mean, I
think and I think the question is ken wentton Wood

(03:16):
score enough. I mean, I think last week they won
twelve to seven over West Claremont. They won Week one
sixteen to six over Springfield, which is a really good team,
made the state final in the last few years at
BE one, So you know, I think that's a good
but I don't know it's gonna be. You know, they've
got Justin Hill, who's an Alabama commit. They've got Sciante
Stewart in their backfield, so Justin Hill's on on the

(03:38):
edge and edge rusher. They got some other dudes too,
Stuart going to Indiana. But you know, you look at
Justice Burnham, the quarterback for Anderson. Two thousand yards passing
seventy five percent completion, twenty seven t d's two interceptions.
I mean, that's unheard of. I don't care who you're playing.
They've got Cayden Pining, who grew up in Orlando's family,

(03:59):
moved here years ago. He's actually committed to Central Florida.
He's a tight end, got five hundred yards receiving, A
big dude, he's six five, two thirty trace Jale, who's
a wide receiver, leaves the ECCN receiving. I mean Anderson
throws it, runs it. I mean, this is one of
those It could be a lot of fun to watch.
But as you well know, many times defense Trump's offense.

(04:21):
And I think that's what Evan Dryer kind of put together.
And he'll tell you that, like they used to win
games fifty to forty five. Well last year they beat
went Woods twenty to thirteen, so he really he used
to put all the better dudes on the offensive side
of the ball. Then he kind of said, wait a
minute there to get some guys on defense too. Of
their defense last year they went twelve to three, made
the D two State semifinals because they had a defense.

Speaker 2 (04:44):
Anderson hosting Winton Woods tomorrow night.

Speaker 1 (04:47):
Kickoff is at seven h seven Skyline Chile Crosstown Showdown.
A huge game between two teams, each undefeated. Handicap both.
The postseason is going to be here in a couple
of weeks. Handicap both against the fields they'll be up
against when the playoffs begin.

Speaker 3 (05:02):
Well, I think I think went Woods. I know there
are plenty of teams, so so people say, if you're unfamiliar,
it'll be against the Molars and Saint Xhavior's and Lakota
West and Princeton. You know, I think it's I think
it'll be tough if they don't get more consistent. And
she had Murphy, the coach of Wentwoods, would tell you
that against some of those teams, Moler has clearly been
the best all year. I mean they have, but I

(05:25):
think when once I guarantee you there's some coaches they're
gonna go, we don't draw went Woods. I mean, because
they're athletic, they're just you know, they got a great defense.
I think for Anderson it comes down to this. I
think it's it's you know, lethal is D two, so
they they've been one. But I think the issue I
think Anderson is good enough. Now anything can happen, as
you will know, but I think they're good enough to

(05:46):
make it like they did last year. I think the
problem at D two is Maslin, Washington and Archbishop Hope
and out of Akron. Those are the ones that you
know you look and you go, other records not as
good as Anderson. Well that's because of who they play
in Maslin Washington won the state last year. I mean
that those are teams. So I think can Anderson win
the region? Absolutely? Can Winton Woods win the region? They can,

(06:09):
But I think it'll be a little bit more difficult
at D one because of Molar. I think more in
Lakota West and maybe Princeton West has been pretty darn
good too. It's Tom Bolden and you know I think so.
But yes, Anderson, I would expect them to win the region.
Went Woods could get there, but it'll be a little
bit more difficult at D one.

Speaker 1 (06:30):
Seven oh seven tomorrow night, Anderson hosting Winton Wood's Skyline
Chile Crosstown Showdown.

Speaker 2 (06:36):
We're nearing the end of the season. How is this
year gone?

Speaker 3 (06:40):
It's been awesome We've had and you know, you know
on the toughest thing for me is I picked these
games prior to the season starting, so as you well know,
you know, we've all prognosticated things that would have I mean, right,
New England Cincinnati Week one? Is that ravel? Maybe? Yeah,
So you don't know, but we had some great games.
I mean for Moler Princeton one. But we had you know, Harrison,

(07:01):
East Central, Cooper Ryle one score games. I mean, we've
had some really Goose Cufcat, Beachwood. So yeah, it's it's
been really really good and it's been a lot of fun.
I mean, we've had, you know, some really good games.
And there are just so many as you well know,
there are just so many good football players in this
area that you watch on Saturdays and you even watch
on Sundays and you'll see a lot of them, right,

(07:23):
And that's so that's what makes it so good. They
are just so many good programs. And now I will
tell you I think across the board football is in
an interesting kind of crossroads here because if you look
at some of the scores in northern Kentucky and in
Greater Cincinnati, Man, there are some teams this year getting drilled.
I mean, there's a lot of disparity from top to bottom,

(07:44):
and I think a lot of people are kind of
wondering what's going on. Fewer kids playing, you know, why
is there's so much disparity. It's gonna be an interesting discussion,
I think in the offseason, because all you have to
do is get on a scoreboard on a Friday night
or a Saturday morning and just look at how many
fifty four to sevens there are. And that is kind
of interesting and quite frankly for those who are into

(08:06):
the sport, a little bit alarming.

Speaker 1 (08:09):
Yeah, it's interesting because I watch I watched the Fox
nineteen show on Friday nights. I think they do a
great job, and they bounce around a job. It's awesome.
But I've talked about this with Joe Daniman. I noticed
there are a lot of games where I'll get a
highlighter two because they've got to bounce around right, and
I'll get a highlighter two and it'll look like the
game was really competitive, and then they'll flash the graphic

(08:30):
and it was, you know, sixty three ten. And I
said to them, it feels like there's a lot more
of these this year than we we've we've had in
the past.

Speaker 3 (08:38):
Oh, it doesn't feel like it is. I mean that
there are, and I think, and I think if you
look at if you go conference the conference, and you
look at and I'm gonna use two examples, I'll use
Cole Raine and Sycamore right in the Greater Miami Conference
I mean Cole Rain, which tomorrow night celebrates it's two

(08:58):
thousand and four state championship team at the D one level.
On their kerry comes. One of the best high school
football teams ever. Cole Rane for the second straight year,
is not likely to win a game. They've got Hamilton,
then they've got Princeton. I mean, think about that. Cole Rane,
oh and tenh and ten twenty. If they lose the
final two, they'll have a twenty two game losing streak.
Cole Raine. We're talking about in Sycamore, Scott to Tillo,

(09:20):
great coach, great football coach. Sycamore has just been I
mean their win one this year is against Cole Rane.
They struggled last year. I mean, I just I don't know.
I mean, you could say public schools, it's a little
more cyclical. It is. You get good classes and you
have thin classes young whatever the case may be. But no,
you're not noting. What you're noticing is real. There are

(09:43):
some really really struggling football programs and I don't know
how you turn that bus around. And I think one
of the things is open enrollments, right, I mean, and
we live in don't forget transport portal at the college level, right,
I'm not playing here. I want to go there. I
don't like this coach. I want bad. I got a
better chance is to win here, get better stats. We
don't think that's trickling down to high schools.

Speaker 2 (10:04):
So you've got it.

Speaker 3 (10:05):
You've got a really good kid at a school that's struggling,
and he goes, wait a minute, that's so I can
go there. I'm going there. I mean, that's that's that's
a large part of it. Who Open enrollment has dramatically
changed where we are in high school football.

Speaker 1 (10:19):
Tomorrow night, seven o'clock, Skyline Chili Crosstown Showdown, Anderson eight
to No hosting Wittenwood's eight to no.

Speaker 2 (10:26):
It's going to be a blast. If you can't get there.

Speaker 1 (10:28):
The game is being televised on Spectrum Sports. Tom Gamble
always going to have you man, Thank you so much.

Speaker 3 (10:33):
You got him, and you can follow along on x
at Xtown Showdown. We'll have videos and we'll have you
covered all night long. Appreciate the time, bo have a
great day.
