Speaker 1 (00:01):
This is ESPN fifteen thirty.
Speaker 2 (00:03):
My name is Molleggorick's the Orthos in c Moeggers Show
on ESPN fifteen thirty. Chris Whittingham's calling the FC Cincinnati
playoff game, game one of their best of three series
on Monday. He'll join us at five oh five and
a lot more on.
Speaker 1 (00:18):
The Bengals to get to here in just a bit.
Speaker 2 (00:21):
Chad Brendle's with us from Bearcat Journal dot com. He
is on x at Chad Brendle and he joins us
every single Thursday. After filling in yesterday. It's good to
have you. What's going on?
Speaker 3 (00:32):
Oh, not much, just catching up with Arn. It's been
a while since we've seen each other, so yeah.
Speaker 2 (00:36):
And anything new happened in the in the twenty two
and a half hour since you guys last talked.
Speaker 3 (00:43):
No, not really, I don't think so. I think you
know we're both getting We had a big lunch yesterday,
and you know we're both finally getting back to normal
and being able to have food consumption again.
Speaker 1 (00:55):
It was a lot I understand understand. All right, are
the Bearcats good.
Speaker 3 (01:03):
In some areas? Yes? I assume we're talking about football.
Speaker 1 (01:08):
Yes, we're starting with football.
Speaker 3 (01:09):
Yes, Okay. What worries me is where we don't know
if they're good or not is past defense. And we're
going to find out on Saturday night. So you know,
I think they can run the ball. I think they
can throw the ball. I think we have seen with
their performances against R. J. Harvey and Cam Scattibell that
(01:33):
they can defend the run. We're about to find out
if they can defend the pass because Shuter Sanders is
really really good, and you know, I think we are
past the point. I think some people looked at him
as kind of a novelty act. If you if you
really watch him and sit down and watch how he
plays quarterback. The dude can really really play the position.
(01:55):
And he's got great talent at wide receiver complimenting him.
So if they're if they're good at pass defense, we'll
know at uh, I don't know what one point thirty
in the morning, uh, Saturday.
Speaker 1 (02:08):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (02:09):
Yeah, So you know, I think for a lot of folks,
I was talking about this earlier when when Colorado played
the game this season that I think most people maybe
around here watched it was the Nebraska game. You know,
look a big ten opponent, but Nebraska really pushed him around.
And in the aftermath of that, there were a lot
of conversations about Colorado's offensive line and you know why, Dion,
(02:33):
for all that he's done there hasn't been able to
put together a good old line all that stuff.
Speaker 1 (02:37):
It feels like that unit has gotten better.
Speaker 3 (02:40):
They have definitely gotten better. I mean, they're still you know,
I think the key to this game, though it could
very well be Dante Corleone. You know, if he can
have his way at the point of attack and really
kind of collapse that pocket from the middle, I think,
you know, have a big impact on Shdeer Sanders. But
(03:03):
you know, if you if you're watching what they have
done lately, and it's on both sides of the ball.
Really their offensive line and defensive line got pushed around
against Nebraska, and both of those units over the last
three weeks have been considerably better, and that's why they're
on a three game winning streak. And and you know,
really those games have not been all that close, like
(03:25):
they have been at times dominant in those last three games.
So that that's what you worry about, at least when
you when you're breaking down this game. Is you're looking
at a team that is showing considerable improvement week over week.
Speaker 2 (03:39):
You know, you and I joke about my propensity for
throwing pens when things go poorly in a in a
college basketball game, Uh, I'm gonna start throwing heavier stuff
at the end of the first half of football games.
Speaker 3 (03:55):
The frustrating part is, mo they're doing exactly what you
would want them to do all the way up to
the converting the field goal part. Like they have several
times march right down the field taking some shots at
the end zone. You know, haven't been able to connect
on them. I don't think they're doing you know where
(04:15):
all they're too conservative. They've taken some shots and worked
their way down the field, got into field goal range,
and it's just a deflating feeling to feel like, you know,
we should have gotten this momentum that you get from
putting points on the board going into halftime, and they're
(04:37):
going into halftime kind of a little bit frustrated. I
will give them credit, they have come out most of
the time in the second half and you know, regained
their momentum. But these these games would be so much
easier if they would just go ahead and you know,
convert those three points. The weird thing is, I don't
(04:58):
know if I've ever seen anything like it before. Nathan
Hawks kicks the ball perfectly straight every time. That is
not a good thing when you're kicking from the left
hash and or the right hash. So that part has
been a little frustrating. But the leg is there, the
distance is there. He's not hitting it poorly, he's not
(05:22):
duck cooking it, you know, one way or the other.
He's just kicking it incredibly straight. And that has not
exactly been a good thing three games in a row
and the other one wasn't him, but four times this season.
Speaker 2 (05:37):
Yeah, definitely frustrating. Chad Brendel Bearcat journal dot com. For
most of us last Friday, it was our first glimpse
at the Bearcats. You've obviously had a chance to watch
them in practice, but the game itself against Ohio State,
what was your biggest takeaway?
Speaker 3 (05:55):
How good the starting five looked? The immediate lee. I mean,
you know, I will say this and I said this
yesterday because you know, Austin, our good friend, Austin Elmore,
was a little discouraged by by how Ohio State looked.
Ohio State dealing with the brand new team. You know
(06:16):
that they have very few returning guys since nati Res
earned six of their top eight scorers, and they brought
in transfers that that fit the roster, and they should
be well ahead of Ohio State at the moment. And
I said that to weas Miller talking to him, you know,
since then, I said, look, yeah, it was it was
(06:37):
great that you guys played as well as you did,
but you should have been that much more ahead of
the system than Ohio State team that's been together for
a couple of weeks. And he agreed. So I'm not
going to get two out over my skis because on
October eighteenth, and this should be something that rolls through
(06:58):
November and into December mo With as much turnover as
there is in college basketball, maintaining your core is something
that very few teams they face are going to have.
There's not going to be this feeling out process of
who are we? You know, what does it look like
that they should know? Boy, you watched that seven minute
(07:18):
segment with that opening five to start the game, and
I think we were all It's funny. George Vogel on
the George and the Jungle podcast on the Bearcat Journal
Network on Tuesday, said he was walking out of the
arena and he looked at his friend that he was
with and said, this could be a lot of fun.
And then he said he could hear over his shoulder
(07:39):
somebody talking to their friends saying this team could be
a lot of fun. Yeah, and he heard it like
three times walking out of the arena. That that was
the general sentiment that everybody was like, man, got a
chance to be pretty good here.
Speaker 1 (07:51):
Yeah. I mean.
Speaker 2 (07:53):
I've watched a lot of exhibition basketball, obviously not you know,
high major versus high major, but it's rare that you
feel that way based on that performance. And so, you know,
a lot of us went into that game with high
expectations sort of built in.
Speaker 1 (08:06):
It was fun. It was fun to.
Speaker 2 (08:10):
Come out of something where it felt like gas was
poured on the fire. It was it was fun to
see the hype beast get fed that. To me, that
was a lot of fun on Friday night, And for me,
it starts with my new favorite player, Tylan Mitchell.
Speaker 3 (08:23):
Yeah. The other thing that I thought was really kind
of telling mo was there was a couple points in
that game where it felt like Okay, this is the
spot where maybe Ohio State cuts into the lead and
maybe gets it down in you know, six eight points
and then we get a you know, we get a
competitive game since Dotty never let that happen. And you know,
(08:44):
one of the reasons was Dylan Mitchell just his energy,
his effort. The rebounding one thing I love. I love
a forward that can get a rebound and just go
and we saw that from him several times. That puts
incredible pressure sure on a defense as they're getting back
to try to figure out how to stop him. And
(09:08):
you know, the other thing for me really was a
lot of the passing. Like, yeah, they made ten threes,
which is a big number. It's not twenty nine Celtics
maybe the other night, which was one of the crazier
things I've ever seen. But they were open. They were
open though, like they were rhythm open looks. There wasn't
anybody you know, taking contested, difficult shots at the end
(09:31):
of a shot clock. It was guys moving the ball,
knowing where their teammates are going to be, and then
guys taking comfortable, rhythm shots. And I think that's why
you saw that seven different guys made a three. I
think that's why you saw that was because nobody was
taking you know, dumb contested bad three pointers. So yeah,
(09:56):
there's a lot of reason for excitement.
Speaker 1 (09:59):
You're telling me all right, man, uh, thank you as always.
Speaker 2 (10:02):
I was going to say, we'll talk next week, but
you're hosting this show on Halloween, and I'm not so
but I'll be listening.
Speaker 3 (10:09):
You're going to have fun with the with the little one?
Are you Are you wearing a costume or are you
just walking her around?
Speaker 1 (10:15):
I think I'm wearing a costume.
Speaker 3 (10:16):
Are you doing are you doing the old man thing
where you build a firefit in your driveway and you
hand out candy at the fireplace?
Speaker 2 (10:22):
Are are our plans are somewhat fluid. I'm not sure
we're going to be in our neighborhood. But I think
I think I'm wearing a costume this year. I think
I haven't been told, but I think I'm wearing a costume.
Speaker 3 (10:34):
Well, I hope we get to see pictures.
Speaker 2 (10:36):
If there's I mean, every parent has an obligation to
take a picture of their kid in the costume, so
that will happen if I also am in one. I
think we're trying to debate whether I'm gonna wear a
costume or if our dog is going to wear the costume.
So there will be someone else in costume. It may
be me, it may be the dog, and this will
all make sense next week.
Speaker 3 (10:57):
You got to get one that's got the like the
dog with like the I saw one today where it
looked like a little like Tanda.
Speaker 1 (11:02):
Yeah, yes, and the dog.
Speaker 3 (11:04):
Walks around and looks like it's something else. Those are
great out well.
Speaker 2 (11:07):
And I mean, you know the thing is, you know,
you put a costume on this dog never looks happy.
So there's a part of me that wants to like,
do we have to do this to the poor dog?
But then I've got to wear the costumes, So we'll see, Chad, thank.
Speaker 1 (11:18):
You very much.
Speaker 3 (11:19):
All right, thanks having.
Speaker 2 (11:20):
Get Chad's coverage of the Bearcats at Bearcat journal dot com.

(11:41):
fifteen thirty is our phone number. We're gonna go to Philadelphia.

Speaker 2 (11:49):
Philadelphia melted down at the end of the season last year,
melted down in their second game of the season this year.
Since then, they've won three out of four. Saquon Barkley
has proven to be a quality acquisition, and yet something
still feels sort of.

Speaker 5 (12:41):
The last couple of years in Green Bay, we suspected
that Aaron Rodgers could be a little bit toxic, especially
with a young team.
Speaker 1 (12:49):
I had no idea that it would be this bad.
Speaker 5 (12:52):
This guy is like a cancer that is metastasized within
the New York Jets organization, and I don't know how
they fixed it.
Speaker 1 (12:58):
