Speaker 2 (00:00):
On Saturday night.
Speaker 1 (00:01):
This is a big game for the Bearcats ten to
fifteen late night kickoff on seven hundred WLW. I'll begin
with pregame coverage a little bit after nine. This has
turned into a big game in the context of the
Big twelve race. Obviously, it's a coach in Dion Sanders
that Scott Saderfield is probably going to be forever compared to,
(00:21):
and so a big opportunity for the Bearcats.
Speaker 2 (00:24):
I chatted with Eric Goodman for the first.
Speaker 1 (00:26):
Time what I guess it would have been twelve years ago,
because he wanted me to come on his show in
Denver to talk about Colorado, maybe hiring Butch Jones, which
did not happen. Twelve years later, they have deon Sanders.
Eric is one of the co hosts of Morning Drive
with Goodman and Hurdle on Mile High Sports dot Com
and kind enough to give us a few minutes.
Speaker 2 (00:47):
It's good to have you, sir. How are you.
Speaker 3 (00:50):
I'm good. I gotta tell you something. I have been
in the Denver market for twenty years, and this is
non exaggeration. This is the first time in twenty years
I have ever done an interview talking about the Colorado
Buffalo's football team. Wow, that's how long it has been
since they've been good. And right now they are good,
(01:13):
but they're not great yet and I don't know if
they'll be great yet. But think about that for a second.
That's how down this program has been for twenty years.
Speaker 1 (01:20):
How much time have you spent talking about them over
the last two years compared to every other year?
Speaker 3 (01:28):
Certainly more because certainly there's a lot of excitement, But honestly,
last year was far more sizzled than steak if we're
being honest. They start when Deon Sanders came here. Clearly
it was a big deal. Dion Sanders is a self promoter.
Dion Sanders promotes, promotes promotes, so you kind of get
(01:51):
hooked into that, and you get hooked into you get
kind of hooked into his orbit of excitement. And they
started well last year. But personally, I've had some challenges
with Deon Sanders. Deon Sanders likes to take victory laps
before the win, so I don't know if you remember
they beat TCU and he goes on a rant.
Speaker 2 (02:10):
Do you believe?
Speaker 3 (02:11):
Do you believe? Dude? You won a single game? And
how did you finish the season. I mean, really, we're
not ready to crown you after one particular game. But
what he has done, more so than anything else, is
he has generated excitement there, sellouts, certainly at Felsome Field,
(02:32):
and the university itself has benefited greatly.
Speaker 2 (02:35):
As you know, more.
Speaker 3 (02:38):
Kids are applying to go to the school, the city
of Boulder on game day. I mean, the millions they
are making because of the excitement of the football program
in Deon Sanders. I can't even imagine the waiting lines
to get into breakfast places pregame or in case of
you know, the game on Saturday, dinner reservations eight fifteen here, shoot,
(03:03):
it's ten to fifteen there.
Speaker 2 (03:06):
That's gonna be a go ahead.
Speaker 3 (03:09):
I'll put one more thing in perspective. I don't know
if you have the stats on it, I certainly don't
give me. I don't know if there's ever been a
team in the history of college football that has started
the season with every game on national television. They played
every game on national television this year, and they certainly
(03:31):
have won more against Oklahoma State at the end of
the year, so they're gonna have eight games on national TV,
which is unheard of outside of Notre Dame that buys
it with NBC.
Speaker 1 (03:43):
So the national TV game that I think in this
part of the country most people watched was Game two
against Nebraska in Lincoln.
Speaker 2 (03:51):
And they got manned oil, they got pushed around.
Speaker 1 (03:53):
Since then, they've won four out of five a narrow
loss to Kansas State, and it feels like the noise
is quieted.
Speaker 2 (03:59):
But the team has gotten better. Where have they improved
the most.
Speaker 3 (04:04):
They've improved in the running game a little bit more,
something that they were not good at last year, that
is for sure. I think their defense has kind of
come together better.
Speaker 2 (04:16):
But I'll be.
Speaker 3 (04:16):
Honest with you, I mean with Cincinnati. Would you say
that Arizona State has been your signature win if you
want to call it that.
Speaker 2 (04:26):
This season, Yeah, Colorado.
Speaker 3 (04:28):
Doesn't have one when you look at Power four schools
because there's no such thing as Power five anymore. They
haven't beaten any Power for teams this year. They've beat
North Dakota State, not a Power four team, obviously, they
beat Colorado State. They're in the Mountain West. They got
drilled by Nebraska, they lost to Kansas State. All of
(04:49):
their wins have been against teams that have had losing records.
This will be the first time again that they have
a chance to beat a team with a winning record
in Cincinnati.
Speaker 1 (05:01):
Everybody knows Shadora Sanders, everybody knows Trevor everybody knows Travis Hunter.
Speaker 2 (05:06):
Who else should I know? Horns really good.
Speaker 3 (05:10):
They're receiving corps. Honestly, I think you could take the
top four guys off their receiving core and they could
start for any team in the SEC. I mean, they
are a big play team, so you know your secondary
should be on notice that any of those guys can
get behind any of your guys at any time in
(05:32):
the game.
Speaker 2 (05:33):
They're a big play.
Speaker 3 (05:34):
Team and they can score fast. And Shador Sanders has
the arm. The problem for Shador Sanders since he has
been here is he just takes way too many sacks,
and we can extrapolate that out into the NFL. Even
though he has a world of talent, the question is
how fast it's his processor. You know, I'm going to
(05:55):
use the Denver Broncos as an example. Russell Wilson, throughout
his entire your career got sacked a lot, and Sean
Payton and Russell Wilson certainly had their issues.
Speaker 2 (06:08):
One of them was.
Speaker 3 (06:10):
Seawn was always very upset with Russ taking way too
many sacks. Bo Nicks like him or not, doesn't take
a lot of sacks. And Sean Payton has come out
and said many times, and there's a part of me
that truly agrees with this. Quarterbacks acts are more on
the quarterback than the offensive line. How fast is your processor?
(06:31):
When you look at some of the top quarterbacks of
all time, they rarely got sacked because their processor was
so fast. They read the defense well, pre snap, reed
was really really good, quick release, all of that stuff.
I don't know how fast that is for shud or
Sanders right now. Their offensive line, though, is definitely improved,
(06:51):
but he still gets sacked too much. In general.
Speaker 1 (06:56):
I hear there are a lot of Cincinnati fans making
their way out to the Boulder area for this game.
You mentioned breakfast and dinner spots before. Where should folks
making the trek go?
Speaker 3 (07:08):
Bossage's is great, posta Jas is great. And I know
I'm going to say something blasphemous. I can find better
chili throwing a dark down the street than skylight.
Speaker 2 (07:18):
You can's you know that's great.
Speaker 1 (07:21):
There's there's no there's no way on earth that that's
actually true, but I'll try Pastage's okay.
Speaker 3 (07:27):
Possage as is really good. There are a lot of
there are a lot of great places. I want to
say one thing. I don't know if you're gonna ask
me this, and what I'm about to say is going
to probably sound well, this guy's being a total homer.
Speaker 1 (07:39):
Yeah, nothing you say right now will be as dumb
as what you just said about Skyline.
Speaker 2 (07:43):
So go ahead.
Speaker 3 (07:45):
I said that really just to get a reaction. My my,
my cousins live out there. They're probably not listening. Skyline
is not bad. I've had a here's here's the thing. Okay,
Skyline Chili to me is like in and out Burger.
It's pretty good, but it's talked about too much being great.
Speaker 2 (08:01):
How's that again? You disagree wildly inaccurate, But but that's okay.
Speaker 3 (08:06):
You know what we can listen. You have to write
to your opinion thought as long as you agree with mine.
But I digress.
Speaker 2 (08:13):
What is your next thing?
Speaker 3 (08:14):
Go ahead here, This is something that you're gonna put
that you might that you likely disagree with more than
my Skylight Chili comments. Travis Hunter is the greatest college
football player of all time period. He is Sho a Otani.
He is Babe Ruth. The two greatest baseball players of
all time? Why dominant pitchers, dominant hitters. If Travis Hunter
(08:38):
doesn't miss the last really game and a half, he's
the eighth leading wide receiver in the country and he
is easily the top cornerback in the country. Charles Woodson
never did that. Champ Bailey never did that. I have
never seen a player with this much talent combine it
with the amount of plays that he plays. Like him ever,
(09:01):
You've watched a lot of college football as a buy,
but he dominates on both sides of the ball. Even
with all the Cincinnati fans coming out here and you
want your Bear Caps to win, and you know, best
of luck to you. If Travis Hunter plays, and I
would expect him to and he's expected to play, just
focus on him and enjoy is greatness.
Speaker 2 (09:24):
All right, Seriously, I love him.
Speaker 1 (09:25):
And then I'm privileged, privileged enough to have a Heisman
vote and he's he's my early leader, right. Oh yeah,
I mean I really haven't thought thought about him in
the context of greatest of all time, But.
Speaker 3 (09:38):
Well, give me a guy, give me a guy who
does what he does offensively and defensively and a waiting list.
Speaker 2 (09:44):
No, I can't.
Speaker 1 (09:44):
I mean that there's what he what he does is insane.
What he does is absolutely insane. I guess for me
to consider a greatest of all time, it would have
to happen in the context of something special with the
team as a whole, and they are playing well and
so maybe it will. But I for me to consider
someone the greatest of all time, it has to come.
It has to come in the context of a winning
(10:04):
season and a special season. Then maybe the Buffaloes are
authoring one of those. We will see.
Speaker 2 (10:10):
Yeah, yeah, all right, you're the best man, MO.
Speaker 3 (10:15):
Appreciate your Next time I'm in Cincinnati, I'm gonna try Scott.
How should I get the Skyline Chili? Tell me how
I because like with in and out Burger, you gotta
get an animal seal. That's what everybody tells me. Am
I missing? How Am I missing the bow? Here? Do
I need to prepare it a certain way?
Speaker 1 (10:33):
You asked for cheese Coney's, all right? Which are you know?
Chili dogs? With Skyline Chili, you get mustard and onion
and cheese and you order it all the way and
you're good to go.
Speaker 3 (10:44):
Now.
Speaker 1 (10:44):
You could also get a three, four or five way.
I'm a three way guy, which is simple. It's just
spaghetti noodles chili, right, spaghetti noodles, Skyline Chili. Talking about
a three If you come to Cincinnati for a different
type of three way, I'm not the guy to talk
to you there.
Speaker 2 (10:59):
But they're here in Denver.
Speaker 1 (11:00):
But the next time, the next time you're in Cincinnati,
let me know. I will take you to Skyline Chile.
You will have an awesome experience.
Speaker 2 (11:06):
I promise, by the way.
Speaker 3 (11:09):
On a side note, yeah, can the Bengals lose a
couple of games, so t Higgins goes on the marketplace
because the Broncos could not only desperately use him, but
they have the cap space to hand them a contract.
Speaker 1 (11:21):
When he watch in the door, Yeah, I mean, the
thing is the worst case they're going to be four
and five and they're not punning on the season. If
they're four and five, if they if they lose the
next two, they play Philly. Thing is they play Philly,
then the Raiders come here. They're not losing to the Raiders.
So at four and five, if they're not given up
on the season.
Speaker 3 (11:37):
Tell that to Baltimore fans.
Speaker 2 (11:39):
Yeah, there is something to that. All right. Well, uh,
when you're in Cincinnati, let me know. Okay, thanks mo.
Speaker 3 (11:46):
Whenever you come out here, I'll take you wherever you
want to flying.
Speaker 1 (11:50):
I'm flying out tomorrow, so you know, I got a
lot of time to kill on Saturday before the game.
Speaker 3 (11:56):
Well, I'm playing golf at one forty. Oh you're staying in.
Speaker 2 (12:01):
The city, staying in Westminster.
Speaker 3 (12:04):
Oh seriously, you have my you have my cell phone? Yeah?
Speaker 2 (12:07):
Yeah, okay, don I will.
Speaker 3 (12:09):
I will seriously give me a call. Let's meet for breakfast.
I'll take you to breakfast.
Speaker 2 (12:14):
Seriously, soul, all rank you? All right, well we'll discuss her.
Speaker 3 (12:17):
I got to be at the golf course. I gotta
be at the golf course about twelve twelve thirty a.
Let's make this happen. Give me a call.
Speaker 2 (12:24):
Okay, loads of time to kill. Done.
Speaker 1 (12:26):
As soon as I get done with this, you're going
to get a text from me. All right, man, thanks
so much.
Speaker 3 (12:29):
Can I bring my Can I bring my wife who
knows nothing about sports, she's from Scotland. Are you cool
with talking about, you know, horses and jumping, because that's
the direction she's gonna want to go.
Speaker 1 (12:39):
I would rather talk horses and jumping with her than
your bad food takes with you.
Speaker 2 (12:43):
So yes, well now we're splitting the check, you and her.
Speaker 1 (12:49):
That's fine, totally get it, all right, man, you're gonna
hear from all right. I'll see him out, I'll say it, man,
Eric Goods, despite the bad Skyline take, he is He's
good dude, uh so is least and he joins us
next mm mmm
