Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is Football Inninnetti, run to you in part by
blood Light and by Skyline Shiley on the official home
of the Bengals, Cincinnati's ESPN fifteen thirty statsin Scheme podcast.

Speaker 2 (00:13):
A must So is the Monday morning mashupcolumn at Summer
Sports dot com, authored by our guy Sean Sayad, who
has joined us every single week, oftentimes having to answer
my dumb questions after a Bengals loss, but on occasion
having to answer them after a Bengals victory. Cincinnati beating
the Las Vegas Raiders and now rematch with the Baltimore

(00:35):
Ravens is coming up. What's going on with man? How
are you?

Speaker 3 (00:39):
I'm doing well. You know, we of course had an
exciting trade deadline. I think, you know, the Bengals fans
may have wanted a few more moves. I'm happy that
were some moves that we didn't see, but certainly a
huge week looking ahead to that Thursday night game.

Speaker 2 (00:50):
So I'll kind of put you on the spot with that.
You know, they did make a deal. They needed a
running back. They got a running back, and we could
talk about him. Was there a player if they were
targeting defensive line help? But I think specifically on the interior.
Is there a player that they could have traded for

(01:11):
that you felt might have made sense for them to
make a real effort to go.

Speaker 3 (01:15):
Get You know, we saw that move at the end
where the forty nine ers were able to add that
defensive tackle from the Tecans. Texans. I thought Plays Campbell
maybe was a candidate to move from the Dolphins, who
I think they've been struggling certainly a little bit. So
you look at it overall and say that they I
would have loved to see them make the move. I
think overall they look at that defensive unit and needing

(01:36):
so many pieces. So even though you're all in every
single season, when you have a guy like Joe Burrow there,
maybe you're able to build that defense back up a
little bit more through the draft.

Speaker 1 (01:47):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (01:47):
Do you know anything about Khalil Herbert?

Speaker 3 (01:51):
Yeah? I do know a little bit about Clue Herbert.
I think he's a little bit more of a zone
runner as opposed to a gap scene runner, And in
that being against the Raiders, the Bengals did seem to
lean into a little bit more of that zone running, where,
of course fans are used to seeing Joe mix and
running that style, so I think that you're able to,
you know, take up some of those carries away from

(02:11):
case Brown where I mean Dace Brown was. I thought
looked really really good in this last game, breaking a
bunch of tackles. So, you know, is it gonna change
your whole entire season? Maybe not, but I think it's
an important piece when, of course, you have Moss going down,
which sounds like it is maybe a longer term injury.
So you have a player that can have that zone
running style takes them carries off the Brown. And how
about their offense?

Speaker 2 (02:33):
Uh, the Bengals beat the Raiders on Sunday, and yet
you know, Joe Burrow, we made a big deal about
his his postgame comments. He wasn't happy with his performance.
I don't think he was happy with the overall offensive operation.
Let me start with the good. What did you like
about what the Bengals did offensively against against Las Vegas?

Speaker 3 (02:53):
You know, I think that Burrow is so locked in.
It comes through in those press conferences where of everyone
and it really felt like he had just an absolutely
amazing day where you're able to kind of complete those
short passes, you're able to have a really successful day
throwing in that intermediate area. Some of those deep faults
didn't end up ass completions. But I was really encouraged
by what I saw from Mike Kasiki. It feels like

(03:15):
we've talked about him a few times in our time
talking together this season, because he is a real real
threat for this offense. Of course, when Higgins is there,
he becomes a third threat. But even when Burrow's scrambling
around and he's moving, he's able to find Gasiki because
Gasicki is really friendly to him in getting open in
moving with him, and Burrow was able to complete a
bunch of passes on the move. So overall, I think

(03:37):
that is the highlight. I think we're for the offensive day.
As I mentioned, I like what I saw from Chase Brown.
I think by a bunch of our metrics, he's one
of the faster running backs overall in the entire league.
So I think that you just hope to kind of
continue to blend that together. We're looking at this Ravens
game on Thursday. I mean, it's gonna be a whole
lot of stuff on Joe Burrow's.

Speaker 2 (03:56):
Shoulders, yeah, which is kind of part of the the
sloppiness that they have to clean up, and there was
a lot of that on Sunday. What stood out most, You.

Speaker 3 (04:08):
Know, of course, you get that pick six where that's
a throw that you're gonna make kind of often where
you're just getting out of a run play kind of
throwing at the outside. Uh, you get baited a little
bit there, but then later on you have a play
kind of off a similar that ends up as a
huge play to Gasicki. And then you know, thinking about
the defense in this Ravens game, I think, you know
that's gonna be something. Uh, it's a really really monitor

(04:32):
But of course you know Max Prosby was able to
generate some pressure there. But when you have shrugging off
those rushers, that feels like, I guess the positive situation
and I really hope that you know, the trade deadline's pass.
We can get Key Higgins back there, get that receiving
group at full strength and back can kind of raise
everything up.

Speaker 2 (04:50):
Sean sayet Is with US Stats and Scheme podcastsoomer Sports
dot Com. Uh, walk me through. Look it's I could
look at I could I could look at the point
totals and I look at them statistically, and I can
even watch the games with a less critical lie and
tell you how good the Baltimore Ravens are offensively. But
it feels like from the.

Speaker 1 (05:07):
Beginning of the season.

Speaker 2 (05:09):
Through even the game they played here when they scored
forty one points, that there's been a really neat evolution
with that offense. When you watch them a little bit
more closely, has that been the case?

Speaker 3 (05:19):
I think that's a great way to look at it,
because in Lamar Jackson's last game, he had no design
to rushing, like they can just play you straight up.
He's happy to play under center and get into that
play action game where you're opening at a team where
trying to make them play left handed means giving the
ball to Jarrick Henry a bunch of times. No one
wants to deal with that. So I think that Lamar
is doing just all of the important aspects of playing

(05:41):
quarterback so so well where he is just playing better
than an MVP season. So that's been a fun, fun evolution.
I think to watch overall where you have a combination
of Lamar Jackson happy to play under center, he can
push you around on the outside, he can run around
the outside. They court add Deontrey Johnson, and I think
they fly hours, continuing to improve their winning against man

(06:03):
covered because defense has played so much man covered to
try and stop that run game. That's been a really
really positive aspect for the Ravens. So of course you
have Todd Monkin there in his second year and a
lot of times offensive fourtyators. You don't get them back
for a second year, but for them to continue to
work together solve problems and now you're looking back at
things from year one and changing them a little bit,
just a really really positive situation for I mean, one

(06:24):
of the almost best teams in the league.

Speaker 2 (06:27):
All right, So how do you slow them down? Beyond
Trey Hendrickson getting nine sacks on Thursday night? What do
they do with with the personnel they have on defense
which they did not add to.

Speaker 3 (06:39):
I think it has to come down to similarly, you know,
in that first game, I thought there were times where
they played the run. Okay, you know they you do
everything that you can on early downs, you really stuff
that box. I think you try your best to just
win one on one matchups on the outside on the
defensive side, and it stinks to say, hey, we're going
to try and see if Lamar Dackson can beat us,
but you don't want to just few ground all the

(07:01):
way to dust through that interior in the run game.
So you know, in that last game, it was a
real superhero performance from Burrow and Jackson, where you know,
maybe Burrow even had a better day. Unfortunately didn't fall
their way. But you know, I guess the only real
way is to see if he can do it again
and try and stunt inside, trying and just generate something
where you can create some sort of turnover, because look,

(07:22):
the Ravens are going to score a lot of points.
It's just going to come down to if you can
score more than them.

Speaker 2 (07:27):
Why are they Baltimore? Why are they not great defensively?

Speaker 3 (07:32):
I think that they missed that just pass rush president
said they had last year where they were like ninth
in pressure, right, I think this year they're around twenty
fifth or twenty sixth coming into that last week, and
that is a big drop off where if you're creating
pressure all the time, offenses are always really on their heels.
But now I think teams feel a little bit more

(07:52):
comfortable attacking over the middle in the past game, where
last year Ropewan Smith just felt like he knew every
single like where every single piece of the offense was that.
He's a think it's a little bit on. Of course,
you have Mike McDonald leading there, Zach Or coming in
just maybe the little parts of how the position is taught,
and it feels like you can attack them in the
past game where you're not getting rushed the same sort

(08:14):
of way. So the Ravens are now certainly a team
that their offense first as opposed to defense. I think
partially as different from than last year.

Speaker 2 (08:22):
As you've surveyed the trades that got done, which one
do you like the most?

Speaker 3 (08:27):
You know, I really do like that Marshawn Latimer trade.
I feel like that was a little bit rich. I
think the Commanders obviously you have the cheat code, you
have that rookie quarterback contract where you feel like that
was a hit. I think that is a move that
can really boost the defense because I mean, Bengles fans,
I think if you add a really good corner, that
makes everyone else in the job get a little bit
easier sitting overall on the move. You know, like when

(08:49):
I look at the Jonathan Mingo trade, I thought that
was really positive for the Panther. The Mike Williams trade.
I thought that was positive for the Jets. They felt
like the teams that were trading these players away, we're
getting a lot of capital back. Yeah, we have to
mention Jadarius Smith getting out of the division and going
to the Lions. I think just really being a fourth Wherefore,
I think that the Lions would have liked to add
a guy like Frey Henderson, but still adding a pass

(09:11):
rust who is still productive is a positive thing there.

Speaker 2 (09:14):
Yeah, we like having Trey Hendrickson here. I just wish
he had some help and Bengals didn't acquire any Shawn
Awesome stuff is always man. I do appreciate it. We'll
chat in a week.
