Speaker 1 (00:00):
ESPN fifteen thirty.

Speaker 2 (00:03):
What's up gonnappen five after three, ESPN fifteen thirty, Out
my lazer, Thank you so much for listening today. We
are we're like a minute.

Speaker 3 (00:12):
Away from the radio station.

Speaker 2 (00:13):
Even though I got in here kind of lake. We're
like a minute away from the radio station. We're at
Buffalo Wild Wings in Kenwood. By the way it is,
It's November fifth, it's election day and it's eighty one
degrees outside. Sign me the hell up, like in the
one hundred percent in in for this all year round.
Sign me the hell up. Sign me the hell up

(00:35):
for what we have happening at b dubs. We've got
buy one, get one half all of traditional Wings. We've
got the six for nineteen ninety nine special two apps,
two entrees, two Fountain drinks for nineteen ninety nine. We've
got bud Light specials. We've got giveaways, including the greatest
cooler of all time. The folks from bud Light are

(00:57):
going to be here. We have a lot going on
between now and six o'clock. Place to post up, great
plays to post up, and watch Miami versus Ball State
tonight in mactionin right like if you're if I need
to get out. I ain't gonna sit at home and
watch election results. I need a sporting event. There will
be one on tonight on ESPN and it involves a

(01:18):
local program. We've got a lot of ground to cover today.
Bengals play on Thursday, uh which means the schedule of
the Bengals used during the week for player availability and
stuff like that thrown out of whack. So Paul Daanner
Junior is not here with me he typically is on Tuesdays.
He is gonna join us just after four o'clock, which
is when the NFL's trade deadline is. The Bengals have

(01:41):
made a trade today, and you know it's obviously something
they typically don't do their their trade deadline in season
trade history is severely limited. But they don't get credit
for doing the obvious. Zach Moss got hurt by the
way he's been placed on ir along with Eric All.
You don't get a lot of credit for doing the obvious.

(02:02):
But the Bengals did make a deal. Khalil Herbert, who
is a running back twenty six year old running back
who was in the middle of his fourth NFL season
with the Bears. He has been traded by Chicago to
Cincinnati for a seventh round pick. Now, if you're wondering
about Herbert, he is a guy who this season was

(02:23):
used shall we say sparingly, wasn't active for either of
Chicago's previous two games, didn't have a carry in any
of the previous five games that Chicago played, had a
grand total of eight lugs on the season. But he
is a guy that played basically that the last three

(02:45):
years for the most part, in their entirety for the
Chicago Bears. This year, he had eight carries for sixteen
yards and a touchdown. Was okay, I guess on short
yardage his success rate in a small sample size sixty
two point five. Look, let's be honest. He is being
asked to come here and work in an offense that's
never going to be a run first offense and play

(03:07):
behind a guy who carried it twenty seven times on
Sunday and Chase Brown. And so they needed a running back.
They got a running back. How significant of a role
he's gonna have is I guess up for discussion. But
they do the obvious here. The question now is between
now and four o'clock do they do anything else? There

(03:29):
have been and I was just listening to Austin and
TONI talk about this reports I think most notably from
Diana Russini from The Athletic who put on social media
twenty minutes ago, that the Bengals are searching specifically for
a defensive tackle and you can understand why. And let's
be honest, there's lots of different positions that it would

(03:51):
make sense for the Bengals to address specifically on defense.
Could they use edge rush help yes, could they use
help in the secondary, yes? Could they use help a
defensive tackle? I think that goes without saying. Diana includes
in her piece though on X the important part of
this is there's a group of teams that are also

(04:12):
hunting for the exact same position. It's like bullpen help
in baseball. Everybody at the deadline wants bullpen help. I
got to think nearly everybody could want, or could use,
or wants defensive tackle help. So I guess here's what
I want to know. Look, the Bengals, they're trying, and
if you want to give them credit for trying, they're trying.

(04:33):
The question is what are they willing to do to
get what they're looking for? What are they willing to do.
Are they willing to increase an offer and make it
greater than an offer that another team would be willing
to put forth to another team? Are they willing to overpay?
Are they willing to get into a bidding war? How

(04:55):
desperate are they? How desperate are they for defensive help?
In my opinion, they should be really desperate because despite
their record, despite being just four and five, they have
a half season in front of them. They have a
quarterback who's having an excellent season. They have an offense that,
for the most part, is quite good. They'll tell you
how they're in win now mode. They'll tell you how

(05:15):
they feel like they can make a bit of a push.
We've talked a lot about the Super Bowl window. Should
they be desperate? Yeah, to a degree. Their defense is
one of the worst in the NFL. This defense isn't
as constructed right now good enough to win a championship now?
Is one guy gonna change that? Probably not? But could

(05:37):
you use help? Yes? How desperate are they to get
help on defense? That's what I want to know. You
don't get credit for trying. You don't get credit for
sniffing around. You don't get credit for being open to
making a deal, you get credit for making your team better.
The only way the Bengals could dramatically make their team
better with the trade they made today. They basically fill

(06:00):
the role of a guy who wasn't very good at
a position where they had an opening. That's not really
filling a huge glaring need. What's filling a huge glaring
need is making your defense better, and so are the
Bengals willing to do what it takes to make that happen. Now. Look,
nobody is suggesting that you mortgage the future for a
defensive tackle. Nobody is suggesting that you give up a

(06:22):
whole bunch of early round draft capital to go get
a defensive tackle. But what we are suggesting is that
the team offensively is good enough that making the defense
better makes sense. Making the defense better requires effort, effort.
Making the defense better might require giving up a little
bit more willing a little bit more than you're willing

(06:45):
to actually give up. I would ask this question. We
listened to Joe Burrow on Sunday after the game, and
we heard his frustration, exasperation, discontent, whatever word you want
to use. But we also heard him use the words

(07:06):
high standards that he sets high standards. His standards are high.
What do you think Joe Burrow would want the Bengals
to do before four o'clock this afternoon? Sit by and
sort of wipe your hands and go, all right, this
is the defense we're going forward with. Or make it better?

(07:28):
What do you think Joe Burrow would want the Bengals
to do? The guy who talked about high standards, the
guy who made it seem like a forty one twenty
four victory at home wasn't good enough. The guy who
doesn't seem really happy with how his team played in
the game that they won. What do we think Joe

(07:48):
Burrow would want the Bengals to do today? Like it?
To me, Joe kind of had his Tom Brady moment
on Sunday, right. That was the guy in the room
who kind of made it known we're not good enough.
We need to be better. We need to be better.

Speaker 4 (08:01):
Is him?

Speaker 2 (08:01):
He's got to play better. I think he would be
the first to acknowledge that. But we've got to be better.
To me, also spoke to larger themes like the organization.
We think Joe Burr wants him to do five one, three,
seven thirty You think he wants them to stand pat
sit by and not take a defense that is among
the worst in the league and try to make it
at least a little bit better. What do you think

(08:24):
he wants them to do? The guy that you go
watch that press conference forget his press conference today which
will play a little bit later on. We do you
think that guy on Sunday that's sat at the podium
and for eleven minutes talked about how we're not good enough?
What do you think he wants the Bengals to do?
Sit by, watch the rest of the NFL pass them by,

(08:45):
Watch the rest of the NFL try to get better,
Maybe see a team take a defensive tackle that they're
otherwise interested in. Or go get a guy, go make
the trade and maybe overpay a little. You tell me
one three fifteen thirty. There's a lot of ground to
cover this afternoon. The Reds are apparently reaching out to

(09:07):
Joey Vado to see if he wants to work for
him in some capacity. Sign me the hell up for that.
We'll spend some time on that. College basketball. Last night, Uh,
pretty much everybody in the area played. We had the
opening of the Mark Pope era. We had the lid
lifting of the season for the Xavier Musketeers where they
win struggle a little bit more than maybe you would

(09:28):
have liked if you're a Musketeers fan watching watching them
against Texas Southern. And we had a performance by the
Bearcats that say what you want about the opponent, say
what you want about where we are in the season.
Didn't do anything to throw cold water all over the
expectations and excitement for this season. We'll spend some time

(09:49):
on that a little bit later on this hour plus.
FC Cincinnati is getting set for a do or Die
game on Saturday. Kindred d Saint Auburn is calling that
match for Apple TV and last season pass. She is
going to join us coming up in just about twenty minutes.
I have a new organizational motto for the Bengals, an

(10:10):
organizational motto. It's a simple one, but it's one that
I think should be used moving forward. We'll get to
that when we come back. We're a Buffalo Wild Wings
in Kenwood on ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station Cincinnati's
two after three o'clock. This is ESPN fifteen thirty broadcasting
from Buffalo Wild Wings in Kenwood, today, home of the

(10:31):
six for nineteen ninety nine deal, home of a five
dollars butt light Talls, home of Game day specials, Home
of our show. We're back in Blue Ash next Tuesday.
We are here today until six o'clock tonight. Kendrick d
sint Aubyn from MLS Season Pass on Apple TV is
going to join us. Coming up in just about ten minutes.
We'll hear from Joe Burrow a little bit later on,

(10:53):
we'll hear from Jamar Chase as well, and perhaps some
Scott Saderfield too. The UC coach spoke today in advance
of saturday days tilt against West Virginia. So I don't
know that there has been a two catch wide receiver
who has been talked about more in the history of
the NFL than Jermaine Burton. I mean, legitimately, the amount
of time spent on him, uh, the the amount of

(11:17):
time on social media, the amount of time on shows
like this spent on him has certainly not been proportionate
to the production he has given the Bengals. It's gonna
be interesting to see what his role is on Thursday,
what his role is throughout the course of the season,
and if the light bulb ever comes on. If if
you're around like really well run organizations, really well run organizations.

(11:43):
I'm not talking about football like I'm like well run organizations.
There's not a lot of emotional children in the workplace.
There's there's there's not a there's not a lot of
people who mentally and emotionally just aren't very mature. So
Jermaine Burton has from growing up to do, and he

(12:04):
may grow up. For his sake, I hope he does,
and for his sake, I hope it happens while he's
under contract with the Bengals, because I think that would
be a cool story. But if there was a theme
from Sunday, it was Joe Burrow as being an adult.
All right, we're putting this bs aside. The standard's got
to be high. I'll set the tone. It was kind

(12:24):
of Joe Burrow's Tom Brady moment. That was an adult.
The new organizational motto should be no children allowed. I'm
not talking about it the games or anything like that.
No emotional children allowed, No immature children allowed. That's what
Jermaine Burton is. Twenty three years old. Can't show up

(12:45):
to work like legitimately young young labor in this league
matters more than ever matters, more than it ever has.
Really expensive quarterbacks matter. Young players who aren't making that
much money matters. I don't have three years for you
to figure it out anymore. So as an organization, you

(13:07):
have to figure out a way to ensure that the
players you draft. You gotta figure out the measurables and okay,
did they fit our scheme? And physically you know, are
they what we're looking for? Emotionally and mentally? Any grown ups?
The new organizational motto should be no more children. This
is a big boy adult. We want this to be

(13:29):
a first class organization. Don't have time for kids. I
worked at a restaurant when I was in high school.
Dude hired me and two other high school kids. I'm
not bragging about myself, but hired me and two other
high school kids. The other two couldn't show up. We're
always late, always wanted off early. And I remember at
some point he's like, I'm not hiring kids anymore, hiring adults.

(13:53):
I started working at the radio station when I was
nineteen years old, and like everybody, you want to be
on the air, you want to do more and stuff,
and like I, I kind of remember the boss at
the times like, we don't have time to teach you this,
like you kind of have to get it yourself. We
don't time like this is like a real business here.
It's this big boy radio. This isn't some pod ONNK
town in the middle of nowhere. This isn't market number

(14:16):
three ten. It's a major market. I have time for kids.
Need you to show up and have it figured out immediately.
Don't have time to teach how it works. Don't have
time for you to figure out how to be there
on time. It doesn't work that way because that's how
real radio stations run, It's how real business is run.
That doesn't mean young people can't help, but the really,

(14:39):
really really good ones figure out all right, this person's young,
but they're more mature than their years might suggest. They
can be here on time, they can handle a demanding boss.
They can handle being a pro and everything that comes
with it. The Jermaine Burton thing bothers me because in

(14:59):
my life I don't professionally, don't have time of time
for like dude who can show up on time, guy
who oversleeps, person who thinks this is all fun and games,
like it doesn't work that way. So the new organizational
motto should be no more children. So you have to
prioritize that in the draft process. I know Jermaine Burton

(15:21):
has athletic talents that are off the charts, and since
he's here, I hope he figures it out enough for
the Bengals and for him to take advantage of those talents.
But moving forward, especially third round picks, we're not drafting kids.
I'd rather have the guy who's slightly less talented but
a better alternative, because he can figure out how to

(15:42):
make his alarm clock work. He knows how to show up.
He gets what being a pro is all about. Like
you go to really well run places they're not hiring,
they figure out they know immediately, right, they know almost immediately.
All right, who knows how this works? We could teach
to the stuff. We had a dude who worked force

(16:03):
that like fell asleep producing shows. Remember that guy, Mike
fell asleep producing shows. I remembers, like, oh, you gotta
give me a second chance, Like I'm a man inhabiting dude. Sorry, man,
let's not hire guys like that anymore, And thankfully we don't.
It's a big boy radio station. It's a big boy business.
Like it's a big boy business. NFL teams the best ones.

(16:25):
They treat their business like big boy businesses. I don't
have time for the guy that can't come to work.
I have time for the guy that can't figure out
how it is his phone works. Don't just we're not
doing it. Moving forward, the motto should be no more children,
No more kids, No more emotionally unstable, immature people with

(16:48):
the emotional wherewithal and professionalism of a twelve year old.
Which is that fits the description if you're twenty three
years old and can't show up to work all right?
Sounds harsh, sounds really hard. Maybe Jermaine has issues that
need to be dealt with. I don't know it. All
I have seen from a guy is he's not mature

(17:09):
enough to figure out how the big boy world works.
This isn't semi pro football, This isn't a club team.
This is a National Football League franchise. This is like
it's fun in games, but for that it's serious stuff.
We're hiring adults. We're hiring mature, responsible adults, and you

(17:30):
got to figure out who those people are. Moving forward.
You got to figure out who those people are before
the draft. You got to identify the ones. If you've
got Jermaine Burton on your draft board and there are
red flags about his maturity, you need to have a
better alternative. Hey, you know what, this guy might not
have gone to a similar school, and maybe he's not

(17:52):
quite as fast, but he'll come to work on time,
Like we can count on him. Hey, that might sound
old school man yelling at clouds in mine, that's how
the real world works, man like, get to work on time,
and real companies, real football teams do not even hire

(18:12):
people that can't do that. Three point thirty on ESPN
fifteen thirty, we're at Buffalo Wild Ones. I've had a
handful of jobs in my life. Again, I've worked at
places we're not hiring kids again, Like they're really mature
of fifteen sixteen year olds. I mean, I who enter
the workforce for the first time buying large man like

(18:34):
maturity is not an age thing necessarily. I can't. I can't.
If I'm running an NFL team, I can't put I
can't put my team's fortunes on the shoulders of somebody
who is too unstable, too immature, and too childlike that
they can't come to work, especially when they're staring a
golden opportunity in the face. No more Kids, Big Boy

(18:57):
Football Team new organizational motto, No More Children. FC Cincinnati
face is a do or die game on Saturday. Kendriss
d st aubin Is are calling it for Apple TV
MLS season Past will join us next on the ESPN
fifteen thirty Cincinnati.

Speaker 1 (19:13):
Sports Station Sincy three sixty with Tony Pike.

Speaker 5 (19:17):
Do we want to move on the Doctor?

Speaker 1 (19:18):
Keith Goring and Bustin Elmore.

Speaker 6 (19:21):
I think you should continue.

Speaker 1 (19:22):
Let me keep going there, Sincy three sixty Tomorrow at
twelve news on ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati.

Speaker 2 (19:29):
Be our sports Center Update. It is going to be
a really fun Saturday if you love Major League Soccer.
FC Cincinnati playing in one of three deciding games on Saturday,
the Orange and Blue hosting New York City FC. The
first of the three games on Saturday kicks off at
four o'clock at TQL Stadium. FC Cincinnati obviously failing to

(19:52):
close out the series over the weekend in New York
against New York City FC, falling three to one, so
sets up a do or die game, a chance to
advance take on the New York Red Bulls in Round two,
a rematch of last year's postseason. First things first, four
o'clock on Saturday. Kendred d Saint Auburn has the call
along with Tyler Terrence, and Kendre is kind enough to

(20:14):
join us this afternoon. It's good to have you, Kendron.
We haven't had you all year long, so it's good
to have you. How are you.

Speaker 7 (20:20):
I know, I'm excited to get back on this game,
and not much of a better time to get back
to Cincinnati than for a game three a Round one,
so I'm excited for it.

Speaker 2 (20:27):
Uh yeah, I am too. I sensed, at least among
fans going into Game two over confidence, and now it's
like the exact opposite, how nervous based on Saturday. Should
f C Cincinnati fans.

Speaker 7 (20:39):
Be Well, first of all, I'm not exactly sure why
they were overconfident and maybe heading into a game two
when you won Game one one nothing, which I get.
You know, they dominated to play, they had chances like
up the Wazoo shafts for twenty to six. You know
they should have won that game more handily. But then
you go on the road to a New York City
team that's playing at six. And I'm not going to

(21:01):
make excuses when you're playing on a baseball field, but
it is different when you're playing a team that's used
to playing in those dimensions. And n YCFC is a
really good team, so it didn't surprise me that they
didn't win Game two. But also, Cincinnati hasn't been as
dominant this year in the overall season as they have
in the past. They've been better on the road than

(21:21):
they have at home, but not just dominant performances. So
I think they should feel good about Game three, but
I don't think they should have been overconfident or you know,
extremely confident about Game two. That's that's why we have
these best of three series, so we can create the
drama for Game number three, and that's why you get
home field advantage for Cincinnati, which is fantastic for them.

Speaker 2 (21:41):
What does Pat Noonan have to get cleaned up in
time for Saturday afternoon?

Speaker 3 (21:46):
Well, first of.

Speaker 7 (21:47):
All, I think you know, and even listening to his
postgame press conference, he never seems real flustered. I don't
know how much you've talked to Pat Noonan, how many
press conferences you witnessed, but he's very He's a cool, calm,
collective guy. Doesn't mean he's you know, not firing on
all cylinders inside. But I think for him, he just
needs to figure out exactly how he wants to attack.

(22:07):
I mean this formation that he's gone with this sort
of a three four to three. He'll call it a
three four one two, but it more looks like a
three four three when Acosta pushes up so high with
Kubo and Oriziano, and if Jeedlin can you know, continue
to be healthy on the right hand side, I think
he's got that and mastered. This back line has been phenomenal.
Awazio made that mistake, you know, late in the game

(22:29):
against New York City for the penalty, but other than that,
they've been so good. They're one of the best defensively
when they drop into that five in the back, So
I think he's got to feel good about that. But
it's more just attacking wise, how much Dubuka and Wobodo
push forward and continue to join in on the attack.
Who has to stay home so you don't get caught
in the transition, and then you just led players like Hugo,

(22:51):
Acostan Origiano work their magic. And oh, by the way,
when you bring off attackers off the bench like you've
been able to do with Baird or do Kini or
whoever you want to do, you know at different times
in the match, like you can't Kelsey is another one.
You got to feel pretty good about that. So I
don't know. I just think it's getting the rhythm down offensively,

(23:12):
not allowing the transition moments against you when you're pushing
all those numbers forward and take advantage of that fantastic
crowd in Cincinnati.

Speaker 2 (23:21):
Gotta win on Saturday. But how much have things opened
up for them now in the East with Columbus eliminated?

Speaker 3 (23:28):
Oh man, I.

Speaker 7 (23:29):
Mean were people celebrating in Cincinnati or the riots on
the street. I mean they're like cars burning in things.

Speaker 2 (23:36):
Well, had FC Cincinnati taken care of business, the answer
to that question may have been yes.

Speaker 3 (23:44):
Oh.

Speaker 7 (23:44):
I mean that is one of those true rivalries, right.
I mean, it's kind of like the la la situation
when you're in that close proximity. You got to feel
good about when the other team loses. But I do
think it's opened up quite a bit. But you just
never know. In the playoffs, you see it in every sport. Now,
this is one of those sports that you play this
you know, best of three and then a single elimination

(24:06):
after that, whereas other sports, as we just saw in
baseball and and we've seen in basketball and hockey, you know,
it's it continues on where you have to play a
best to get to the championship. But how do you
think it happened all of a sudden? Atlanta has kind
of gotten hot, you know, Miami has their hands full.
I just think, you know, the other things you are

(24:26):
with think Cincinnati fans might be happy about is Philadelphia
didn't even make it to the postseason. So there's some
of these Eastern Conference rivals that are always kind of
a you know, a sore spot, and now they've they
don't have to deal with them. So yeah, I think
it opens up quite a bit in the East that
Columbus has bounced. I did not see that coming and

(24:47):
I think even Wilfrid Nancie looked a little bit bewildered
on the sideline. But you know what, you got to
take care of business on Saturday.

Speaker 3 (24:53):
First thing.

Speaker 7 (24:53):
First, you got to take care of yourself.

Speaker 2 (24:55):
So, uh, these clubs played three times before the postseason.
They've played two in this series, so it's the sixth matchup.
Can can the coach on either side come up with
anything at this stage that the other side hasn't seen?

Speaker 7 (25:11):
No, I don't think so, I really don't. I mean,
and both of these teams, you don't have added a
couple of players, or maybe a couple of players have
come into health or as since Natty has learned right,
they they've subtracted some players due to issues or injury unfortunately.
So I think what you're going to see is what
you're going to see. And this is sort of like
where you see a game seven of a Stanley Cup
and it's like, how many fights are they're going to be?

Speaker 6 (25:34):
Right?

Speaker 7 (25:35):
You know, everybody's under their skin, everybody's seen too much
of each other lately. But I think tactically, I think
it is what it is, and you A have to
capitalize on the mistakes of the other team, and B
you don't make any mistakes. You can't have an owasium penalty,
you know, at any point in the matter where you're
taking a guy down, or you can't have a turnover

(25:55):
a midfield that allows the other team to go on transition.
So For me, it's you don't want to play scared,
you don't want to play hesitant, you don't want to
overthink it. You got to play your game. But you
have got to limit your mistakes because this is the
moment where you know, the cream of the crop rises
to the top, and I think that's going to be
the situation here. So tactically, I don't think there's too

(26:15):
much either team can do. You just got to rely
on your stars. You've got to rely on a player
like Lujian Acosto or a Zano to you know, come
up and big in the big moments.

Speaker 2 (26:25):
Within about a twenty four hour stretch, the league will
have four elimination games, including one involvement Messi. How good
is this for Major League Chackey?

Speaker 7 (26:36):
Oh man, I mean, first of all, just the fact
that you said Messi in the same phrase with MLS,
and I know we have been beating that to death
right the entire season, but you have to you have
to capitalize on this situation and hopefully this is front
and center on everybody's mind, the fact that you have
these elimination games that are meaningful game with big names

(26:57):
and big competition in big market Cincinnati, is not a
big markup, but you still have big names like Luciano Lacossa,
you know, and you still have an NYC, a seed
team that comes from a situation in New York where
they bring some big names. And then as you say that,
you've got messy in Miami having to play a game three.
So I think these are the moments that the league

(27:18):
has been working towards for years. It's just it's fun
to be a part of it. And then you just
hope that, you know, it continues to catch fire with
the rest of the country and the rest of North
America and the rest of the world as we all
kind of already know what it is and you see
it just kind of spiraling out of control in a
positive way.

Speaker 2 (27:35):
Yeah, it should be a fun Friday and Saturday even
more fun if the Orange and Blue can win at home.
Atmosphere should be a blast four o'clock. Enjoy your stay
in Cincinnati, enjoy the call. Hopefully we can have you
back as the playoffs continued unfold.

Speaker 7 (27:50):
Thank you so much, awesome, thank you so much. Appreciate it.

Speaker 2 (27:53):
I appreciate you coming on. Kindred d Saint all been
the call. MLS Season pass Saturday, four o'clock Do or
die FC Cincinnati versus New York City match starts at
four o'clock, and of course you could hear it on
ESPN fifteen thirty fourteen away from four o'clock ESPN fifteen

(28:14):
thirty where a Buffalo Wild Wings in ken would we
have like a lot of stuff to get to it.
Joe Burrow talked today. He talked to two forty five,
which is like right before we go on the air.
So I haven't had a chance to listen to this,
so I don't know if the tone was the same.
I don't know, but I can't wait to hear. We'll
have that for you coming up right around four thirty

(28:34):
or so. Our friend Paul Danner Junior is gonna be
with us a little bit after four o'clock. Trade deadline
fourteen minutes away. Bengals have acquired Khalil Herbert from the
Bears running back. Can they get any last minute defensive help?
If they do, Paul will talk about it. If they don't,
Paul will talk about it. We've got some college hoops
to get to, some college football. Joey Vado potentially working

(28:57):
for the Reds. There's a lot there's a lot of
stuff to get to between now and six o'clock on
ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station. Since if you let anything,
we're at Buffalo Wild Wings Kenwood here till six o'clock.
Buy one, get one half of Traditional Wings. By the way,
this location very easy to get to. Moments from I

(29:17):
seventy one. You can get off. You could get off
at the Kenwood Road exit.

Speaker 4 (29:23):
You could do that.

Speaker 2 (29:23):
You get off at the Stuart Road exit, you could
do that. You could just drive up and down Montgomery
Road if you want. Very easy to get to. We
are here till six o'clock. Butt Light talls available as well.
We've got prizes thanks to our friends at butt Light.
Excuse me. We'll jump back into the Bengals with our
buddy Paul dane Er junior coming up in just about
ten minutes. Night one of the college basketball season. Pretty

(29:46):
much everybody played. It was fun watching really good performance
by Ohio State. Late last night on TNT, after we
watched the Tampa Bay Buccaneers choose not to win a
game against the Kansas City Chiefs. In the air, we
had the beginning of the Mark Pope era, which was
a I think a resounding success. Kentucky's shooting sixty percent. Look,

(30:08):
they're not going to be that good offensively, I think
we all know that, But you know, you just compare
the style to the style we saw from John Calipari's
teams offensively in recent years. Night and day, I never
felt like Xavier was going to lose the game against
Texas Southern. They shoot forty one free throws. They were
awesome at getting to the rim. They were ghastly from

(30:30):
behind the ark Ryan Conwell, though, lived up to the
hype I've talked about him before. Watching that Indiana State
team was a lot of fun for a lot of
different reasons. Got a chance to see them up close
when they beat UC in the nit. Ryan Conwell could play,
and he was the best player on the floor last night.
Didn't have a lot of help offensively. They were really
good at getting to the rim and not much else.

(30:52):
XU beats Texas Southern. The Bearcats hammered Arkansas Pine Bluff. Now,
there is I think often a reluctance to latch onto
anything you see at the beginning of the season, But
when you combine the hype, the built in hype for
this team, I think with kind of the built in

(31:13):
pressure for Wes to get to the NCAA tournament and
make some noise once he's there. And then you add
to it how they played against Ohio State. Look, they
were gonna beat Arkansas Pine Bluff. It wasn't about winning
or losing the game. It was about do they do
enough to amplify and feed the hype beast? And the
answer last night was yes. Obviously, you take lopsided games

(31:36):
by games against opponents like Arkansas Pine Bluff with huge
grains of salt. But if you're a college basketball fan,
and I think specifically if you're a UC fan, how
many times has the season opener been a dud either
because the team doesn't look connected or they're still trying
to figure out who's gonna play what role and it

(31:56):
looks clunky. That word gets often used in November when
you watch college basketball teams. I think, especially in the
era of the portal where players are joining teams and
playing with a bunch of dudes they haven't played with before.
Last night didn't look clunky. Last night look connected. Last
night was very encouraging. And I'll say the same thing
that I did against about the Bearcats after Ohio State.

(32:20):
I'm interested in what this team does when it's tested.
I'm interested in what happens when they face some resistance,
interested in what happens when they play a good team
and you know they've got to match a team bucket
for bucket, or figure out a way to slow down
a ten to nothing run, or even come back late
in the game. But it really does feel like the
possibilities are limitless. They weren't great defensively last night, but

(32:43):
they've got shooters, they've got options, they've got depth, and
in game one they looked really connected. They looked really
bought in. If you are as excited as I am,
last night did nothing to dissuade you from being excited,
even if you understand the opponents stood no chance of

(33:04):
winning the game. Come away from four o'clock. We're at
Twin Peaks. No we're not. We're at Buffalo Wild Wings
in uh Kenwood on Montgomery Road. We are here till
six o'clock. We've got giveaways, we've got wings, we've got
bud light. All we need is you. Paul Danner. Jenner's
gonna join us. Deadline is three minutes away. This is
ESPN fifteen thirty, Cincinnati Sports station.

Speaker 8 (33:25):
This report is spawning skid touchdown pass number five for
Chilber Joe.

Speaker 5 (33:31):
Borrow it Bengals RW to M and T. Banks Stadium.

Speaker 9 (33:35):
Just slug it out with Lamar Jackson and the Raiding Bang.
All the Orange and Black are out too. Of ends,
they're overtime lost to Baltimore in week five. Heck, prepare
for a fourth quarter AFC North Slammer.

Speaker 5 (33:49):
Knocker popping down.

Speaker 3 (33:50):
I am bam Bank.

Speaker 9 (33:52):
Mister Ball from Dangerous den Hood and Mighty Day. Coverage
begins Thursday at three on ESPN fifty, the official home
of the Bengals.

Speaker 2 (34:03):
I saw six half for four. He asked me fifteen thirty,
can ask Mern Paul Eggart broadcasting from Buffalo Wild Wings.
I said, Buffalo Wild Wings and any ken winners. We're
here till six o'clock tonight. We've got prizes, We've got
that Bengals cooler thanks to bud Light. We've got bud
Light talls. We've got buy one, get one half off
Traditional Wings. We're having a blast. It doesn't get any better.

(34:25):
Buffalo Wild Wings, Kenwood very easy to get to. I
have watched a Bearcat basketball game here. Although it didn't
it didn't go well, and it wasn't that the game
won poorly. It's that the guy that I was with
got into a fight, and so you know, I mean,
that sort of stuff sometimes happens. It was kind of
his fault. Why we don't hang out anymore again, have

(34:45):
like people like that at Buffalo Wild Wings. So come
on out, no fights to be ahead here at beat Ups.
We're here till six o'clock. Come on out and spend
some time with us. Our guy, Paul Danner Junior very busy.
I just tweeted out not only that he was going
to be on, but he has five mid season predictions
for the Bengals as they get set to go to
Baltimore on Thursday. And of course, he has been monitoring

(35:06):
any and all trade deadline activity, including the Bengals parting
with a seventh round pick for Khalil Herbert from the
Chicago Bears. Paul is with us now, Hi, Paul, Hey,
what's going on though? How are you?

Speaker 10 (35:18):
I'm glad I was able to catch the tail end
of the story. Times had drinks inside of this Buffalo
Wild wins.

Speaker 2 (35:26):
Yeah, I watched a UC game here, and I was
with a guy that we really weren't very close friends,
and he wanted to fight people, and I don't. I
don't have time in my life for folks who want
to pick fights.

Speaker 4 (35:39):
No, no, you don't want to. We're passed and we
don't have the energy for it.

Speaker 2 (35:46):
Don't have the energy for fights. That's right. Well, I
wish you were here, but I know you've been busy. Uh.
You did in your list of mid season predictions predict
the Bengals which trade for a running back, and so
you nailed that one. Congratulations, one for one, four more
to go.

Speaker 4 (36:01):
I'll take you right. It's good to check that one
off real quick.

Speaker 10 (36:06):
I mean, I don't think you had to be a
genius or what miss Cleo right for our older listeners, right,
you don't have to be that smart to understand that
they really didn't have any options. I mean, well, I
guess we k directly into the ground and see if

(36:27):
he can survive, or you know, go find somebody else
that people are willing to give up for a seventh
round pick. This one was a fairly easy decision and
one that really hit desperation mode.

Speaker 4 (36:40):
On Friday when the Zach Boston.

Speaker 10 (36:41):
I mean, they were already saying and running back conversation
seeing what was out there before the Moss injury, and
that pushed it over the top.

Speaker 4 (36:50):
But as you know, he's simple cakes for this team
to get a deal done.

Speaker 10 (36:55):
Pure crazy desperation is usually the only thing that ends
up making happening around here, and.

Speaker 4 (37:01):
That proved to be the case again.

Speaker 2 (37:03):
Is he gonna play Thursday?

Speaker 10 (37:07):
You know, Joe Burrow with us just recently just kind
of said that maybe it's possible because if there's anything
that he needs to know, he.

Speaker 4 (37:16):
Can just look over to his right and say, hey,
run that way, and he can do that. And so
there's a little bit of an advantage.

Speaker 10 (37:23):
Just the fact that Joe would be right next to
him for the vast majority of any of the calls.

Speaker 4 (37:28):
I mean, I think it's certainly possible.

Speaker 10 (37:31):
They've got him in the playbook now, so they need
bodies and he's a body.

Speaker 4 (37:35):
And wait, here's here's what I like about him. One
is he's not some older or washed up player. He
was super explosive last year.

Speaker 10 (37:45):
He has had this entire year to just get mad,
just be mad that he's not playing, be pissed at
the situation, and now he gets a new spot where
you can come out and play, and you know, a
contract year, trying to play for the biggest contract of
his entire life. He's gonna come out and be really

(38:06):
mad and run hard and feel like you're gonna get
the best of him for a couple of months here.
It's really as good as you could ask for. Would
you consider the situation that they were in and what
they needed.

Speaker 2 (38:16):
If the requirement to be traded at the Bengals is
to be mad, I know a lot of folks that
this team would be interested in.

Speaker 10 (38:25):
Well, they've got a lot of folks they put employ
that have gone through that as well.

Speaker 4 (38:29):
So yeah, uh, maybe he just fits right in that way.

Speaker 2 (38:33):
So they trade for a running back, which they needed,
they don't trade for any defensive help. And I know
this is unsurprising, but there has been reporting done that
they were at least interested any idea as to how
close they may have come to adding help specifically on
the defensive line. Yeah, I mean, it was never.

Speaker 4 (38:54):
An idea that they wouldn't make calls.

Speaker 2 (38:56):
I mean they're gonna always make calls and.

Speaker 4 (38:59):
Be in on these conversations.

Speaker 10 (39:01):
It's just look over any type of player that there's
more than one team with any interests, They're just not
gonna give up. They're not gonna win bidding wars. They're
not gonna do it.

Speaker 4 (39:10):
They don't. They never have.

Speaker 10 (39:12):
There's a reason they've gone this long without really making
any trades because they just it's just the when it
comes down to it, when it's two or three teams
over one thing, they're just not gonna give up.

Speaker 4 (39:22):
Whatever it is.

Speaker 10 (39:23):
And that's part of the downfall of what their trade
deadlines have been in the past.

Speaker 4 (39:29):
They've just been unable to finish these deals.

Speaker 10 (39:31):
And unless they were in a situation where they were
truly desperately motivated, is the only way.

Speaker 4 (39:36):
They got it done.

Speaker 2 (39:37):
Now.

Speaker 10 (39:37):
I don't know what happened in the last twenty thirty minutes. Uh,
they were making calls, they were interested, but you know,
I was told multiple times like, don't hold your breath.

Speaker 4 (39:48):
There's not there's not a desperation on some of this stuff.

Speaker 10 (39:53):
And maybe there should be, and maybe you look at
this roster and say there should be, and I'm and
maybe it.

Speaker 4 (39:58):
Kicked up more in the last second, but I.

Speaker 10 (40:00):
Don't get the impression that it was ever reaching that
level of like we're in the mix fighting now with
this other team. Specifically, they were in conversations, absolutely, but
I certainly don't get the impression that that they were
willing to go that extra level, which by the way,

(40:21):
isn't that much would you consider what was being exchanged
draft pickwise, but they weren't going to be willing to
give up a sixth and a seventh round pick, I
guess to acquire one extra player.

Speaker 2 (40:32):
So I think that speaks to the frustration that a
lot of people feel with maybe specifically this year at
the deadline, and again they did something because they had
to do something at running back, but like you know,
you wrote about it last week, there's there's capital that
they don't want to give up because they've they've got
to rebuild this defense, right They've they've next year's draft

(40:54):
is really important for this team. But if you look
at the rest of the league, nobody's giving up you know,
Day one or many Day two picks in order to
get incrementally better. And so the cost that they would
have had to incur to make at least a slight
upgrade to some position on defense, I think for most
people would have been worth it. We talked about this

(41:15):
team getting into bidding wars. You know, I don't know
that most folks believe that at the end of that
bidding war, the Bengals would have parted with a lot
of precious, valuable draft capital. Instead, it would have mirrored
kind of what the rest of the NFL is giving
up in exchange for established players.

Speaker 10 (41:32):
Yeah, I do not disagree on that, and you know
that if that's very true, I don't. I don't think
there's anything this is a problem, Like you have to
you can't value late round picks this much that you're
not going to take a shot to try to help
this year's team win, but if you don't feel like
the upgrade is worth enough over who you have, because

(41:55):
I think that's also the combination of this, right is
potentially either valuing or overvaluing their own players that can
come in and fix what's wrong and get better and progress,
which they are counting on that. I mean, no one
player was going to show up here and all of
a sudden, the Bengals defense doesn't really stink against good
teams like that's who they are right now. I think

(42:18):
it's a combination of that and the extreme valuing of
every level of draft pick that they have. I mean,
it's it's how they get to the spot of never
really making trades. Is that those two factors is just
the absolute valuing of the people that they have to
fix problems already being in house, and the you know,

(42:40):
holding the gold the gold nuggets that are six and
seven through ound draft picks in your hands and never
really wanting to rely purish them.

Speaker 2 (42:50):
Paul Danner Junior with us covering the Bengals Forthathletic dot
Com as well as the Growler Podcast. Latest episode recorded
this morning is out. Baalds, don't lie. I want to
quickly fling the conversation back to Khalil Herbert. He is
learning the playbook right now. Who do you think right
now knows more about the Bengals playbook? Him or Jermaine Burton.

Speaker 4 (43:13):
Yeah, I mean that's a that's a hard one to say.
I mean, he's got it out. He might have an
hour up on him already today.

Speaker 10 (43:19):
Uh yeah, I mean he certainly, he certainly could be
up to speed really quick. Well, I guess it would
be telling if he's out there playing out running.

Speaker 4 (43:29):
Outside receiver routes and go balls. He's taking over the
number eighty one role.

Speaker 11 (43:33):
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (43:34):
Yeah, I'm sure he is a player, you know I
said before, relative to what he's brought to the team.
We talk about him way too much. But but like
that was a story this weekend, right, he doesn't show
for walkthrough, doesn't show for practice on Saturday, and with
this golden opportunity in front of him, instead, he doesn't

(43:56):
play in the game on Sunday. You know, he's he's
got to win back his teammates, some of them called
him out. I'm sure he's got to win back the
trust of people on the coaching staff. It just it
feels like this isn't impossible for him. But I don't know,
And you could speak to this better than most, Like
are we are we getting close to a point of

(44:19):
no return for him?

Speaker 11 (44:22):
No?

Speaker 4 (44:22):
I don't think so.

Speaker 10 (44:23):
I mean there's plenty of time to you know, let
him sit in the background and learn and figure things out.

Speaker 4 (44:31):
I mean it could be years.

Speaker 10 (44:32):
I mean nobody wants that, but I mean this team
will give you every chance even if it goes wrong.
I mean, we saw you, Jackson Carmen struggled every single
year here, and he hung around till his fourth year
when when to pick on you, they give you every chance,
you know, and and there it's key separate situations. And

(44:54):
I actually I've hesitant to even compare the two, but
they're similar in the positions and and and and you know,
high talented potential receivers to Chris Henry, you know from
fifteen years ago, right, it was just continue to bet
on it, but win. The switch flips on this guy
when it comes along, and then you see the moments, right,

(45:15):
and you just feel like they're willing to go through
it because you want to be the one that's.

Speaker 4 (45:19):
There when he comes out the other side when this
one is.

Speaker 10 (45:22):
Different, uh, in what you're dealing with, But it's also
it is it's young person stuff.

Speaker 4 (45:28):
That he's trying to figure out. And they do sound
very willing to be patient.

Speaker 10 (45:33):
And this organization is known for a long time to
be very wi patient with this stuff, and there they
may need to be because it could be I don't
think this feels like a short term project where all
of a sudden the trust is back and he's gonna.

Speaker 4 (45:47):
Go out there and send the snappy for him on Thursday.

Speaker 10 (45:51):
I think it's back to square one on road burning
the trust back of your teammates before you can ever
start building any portion of it.

Speaker 4 (46:01):
Around him at this But.

Speaker 2 (46:03):
But you know what is different is the quarterback that
I saw at the podium on Sunday.

Speaker 11 (46:09):
Yeah, yeah, I mean, I think that what Joe Burrow
has done over the last couple of days here, and
whether we're talking about the breaking up in the locker
room and you heard those things that.

Speaker 10 (46:24):
Were said, and or with his demeanor on the sideline
or what he said at the video, it feels like
it could be a moment that this team needed. And
we were just in there and he just talked about
how he understands and that people have told him how
much people do feed off of his emotion hgy, and

(46:46):
how it wouldn't feel authentic if when, yeah, you're you're
getting more of the positive, you're also going to get
more than negative when you're feeding off of that. And
that's what this team needs and and he's kind of
regnizing that, and that's something we heard him talk about
earlier in the season. Wondered when leadership is going to
take a step, when he was gonna have his like
Tom Brady turn right, He's going to become the angry
Tom Brady, and I think the fact.

Speaker 4 (47:08):
That he had ease just what this team needs right now.

Speaker 10 (47:11):
They have felt like a team kind of flailed enough
purpose this year, and maybe.

Speaker 4 (47:17):
This is it.

Speaker 10 (47:18):
Maybe this is the lead, the bi Buks moment that
you remember from mid season a couple of years ago
in Pittsburgh, or any number that they've had along the way.

Speaker 4 (47:26):
Usually it does have to come from number nine.

Speaker 10 (47:29):
So perhaps not tolerating a five touchdown dominating perform and
being mad and telling everyone as much immediately in the
Aftermack is the moment that snaps his team to start
playing more as a team and to their potential. And
that will depend on the result that happens in Baltimore,
because everything will feel different if what was said and

(47:52):
done after the Raiders game leads to them getting their
first kind of signature win.

Speaker 4 (47:59):
Is suddenly sitting there back to five hundred, right in
the middle of the race and having just taken down.

Speaker 10 (48:03):
The Ravens in their house of a sudden, the season
feels like.

Speaker 4 (48:07):
It's all the way back on.

Speaker 2 (48:11):
There was so much stuff that happened on Sunday that
the Eric All thing kind of became a bit of
a footnote, and I hated for him because it's it's
a second consecutive year with the season ending knee injury.
I hated for the team. And like, I know, it's
easy to say, well, they're not a good running team
to begin with, so big deal. And Micah Sicki's had

(48:32):
back to back productive game, so big deal. But you
put this on social media and I'm not sure it's
really been tapped into. That's that's that's a look. Every
injury sucks. It really sucks for a young guy who was,
you know, really look like he fit in, really looked
like he had a bright future and and hopefully he
can still you know, be what we thought he was
gonna gonna be. But for this team this year, he

(48:56):
was vital, and he was vital vital specifically for the
way they want to play. Can you sort of expand
on that for me?

Speaker 10 (49:03):
I mean, they changed who they have been since the
moment Zach Taylor walked in the door.

Speaker 4 (49:09):
They have been the kings of eleven personnel. I mean
they've led to them in the Rams.

Speaker 10 (49:14):
Has gon neck and neck for who runs the most
eleven personnel, Like it's a competition.

Speaker 4 (49:18):
They're so far above everybody else in the league.

Speaker 10 (49:20):
And one guy, and this the seeds of this were
planted as soon as he started participating in camp, particularly
in the full padded practices. One guy opened eyes and
made them start saying time to get to work on
the twelve personnel package. He changes everything, and you saw it.
They came out there and they couldn't move the ball

(49:41):
in the opener, Mo couldn't do it.

Speaker 4 (49:43):
What happened? When did they move it?

Speaker 10 (49:45):
They put in Eric All with Drew's sample, and they
pounded the twelve personnel run game, moved down the field
and got touched out, and so they said more of that,
and then they did it. Now now he's moving from
every direction. Now they're using the motions, and he's he's
cracking from the side, playing fullback.

Speaker 4 (50:01):
He's out there touching balls.

Speaker 10 (50:02):
Up the scene, and he's got explosives outside. He's doing
absolutely everything, and every week they keep complimenting him and
building more into the those packages. Everything that involves him
is something new, it's something different. It's something that's more
window dressing to make the defense think about. And it
made a more physical and tougher and now you got

(50:24):
to take that away.

Speaker 4 (50:24):
Everything you built.

Speaker 10 (50:26):
You know, you can do those types of things, some
of them with Drew Sample, but the flexibility that all
gave you really made them so much more versatile, and
that's kind of been the seam of their offense this
year is the was the evolution of them in terms
of versatility and doing different things and using different packages.
You take really the key portion of the versatility away

(50:49):
when you take Eric all the way, and I'm really
curious to see how they deal with it, because they're
much easier to pinpoint who they are and what they're
trying to do when it's only Drew Sample out there,
or when it's only Mike Kasikia there. They just become
much easier to predict.

Speaker 2 (51:04):
H Have you ever worn pajamas to work?

Speaker 11 (51:08):
Uh?

Speaker 4 (51:10):
No, I don't think so. Maybe like a pajama day.
I think at one point in one.

Speaker 10 (51:15):
Place I worked, you know, I worked in Key West.
It was pretty lax, all right.

Speaker 4 (51:19):
So back in the day you could roll in.

Speaker 10 (51:21):
There was really no code that that anyone followed there
outside of could you try to not be too drunk
at work?

Speaker 4 (51:29):
Right, was kind of the Key West code.

Speaker 2 (51:32):
And I never dealt with that that that I never.

Speaker 10 (51:36):
Even came in in pajamas even down there, I I
I can't say that I can quite be on the
same page, but you know what I commend.

Speaker 4 (51:45):
I commend the bresh. You know, look, I'm here.

Speaker 10 (51:48):
He had enough, and I think everybody had to say,
you're right, it probably is.

Speaker 4 (51:51):
That's probab, We're at with it, We're okay with this.

Speaker 5 (51:55):
Here.

Speaker 4 (51:56):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (51:57):
Uh, you know, I just if I was him, i'd
really lean into it. Get some like adult foot of pajamas,
maybe call since he's shirts, they've had those, and just
kind of you know, I mean, just that could be
his thing.

Speaker 7 (52:08):
Mo.

Speaker 10 (52:09):
I gotta say, though, while we're on this topic, what
are the odds?

Speaker 4 (52:13):
But I would actually love.

Speaker 10 (52:14):
To talk to the producer that or the camera guy
that caught this to get the shot.

Speaker 4 (52:22):
Of angry Joe Burrow in truly his angriest.

Speaker 10 (52:26):
After a touchdown while leading by a million point space,
like to catch that moment and to then see here
coaster Main Burton.

Speaker 2 (52:35):
Bopping along, smile and being goofy right in.

Speaker 10 (52:37):
Front of him, like you had to have turned to
somebody and be like, no way, anybody else do that?

Speaker 4 (52:41):
Am I the only one that saw that? Did? We
really just catch that.

Speaker 10 (52:45):
I mean, you can't sum up an entire situation with
nuanced and details and days and weeks of background better
than you could in that one shot here it is.

Speaker 4 (52:55):
That's the situation right there.

Speaker 2 (52:57):
It was incredible. When so they're gonna be on in
season Hard Knocks? Are they filming now?

Speaker 3 (53:04):
Like?

Speaker 2 (53:04):
Is that? Because? My my first thought was if, because
I don't know if they've been on board filming doing
stuff and they're gonna show it in December, But if
if the Jermaine Burton situation has been captured by that crew,
then Hard Knocks is gonna be even better then I
thought it was gonna be. And I'm already a huge fan.

Speaker 10 (53:25):
How great would that be if they're like, yeah, we
had Jermaine micd up on.

Speaker 5 (53:28):
That Saturday.

Speaker 10 (53:31):
And they just sat there outside of his place waiting
for him to come out and he just never did
episode the episode is just devastating.

Speaker 4 (53:40):
They're waiting for him to come out.

Speaker 10 (53:42):
Of the door and not doing it.

Speaker 5 (53:43):
I don't know.

Speaker 4 (53:43):
Yeah, they're around.

Speaker 10 (53:45):
There are a lot of cameras around right now that
are unfamiliar and people that are unfamiliar right now, so
it's hard to keep track of it all because we
have Amazon and NFL films, and we have I'm sure
the hard Knock I don't know.

Speaker 4 (53:57):
Some of them are hard knocks and they do both.

Speaker 10 (53:59):
It's very hard to keep track of what's happening right
now when you have four of the next six games
in primetime and an HBO documentary all on deck. There's
just a lot of UH focus on on this team
right now.

Speaker 4 (54:13):
From a media perspective, Yeah, understandably.

Speaker 2 (54:15):
So all right, man, I know you have work to do.
I do appreciate it as always. Well, we'll see you
next week, all right.

Speaker 4 (54:22):
Yeah, I'll wear pajama next week.

Speaker 2 (54:23):
Okay, dude, I work in radio, so I basically wear
pajamas every day, and so does everybody else. So I mean,
you know, if if football doesn't work out for Germaine,
perhaps there's a future in UH in non television broadcasting
for him that we could we can help him with.

Speaker 4 (54:39):
We'll see. I'll leave I'll leave that alone, though. You
have a good day.

Speaker 2 (54:43):
I didn't go from Paul Danna Junior from the Athletic
Go to get his work at the Athletic dot Com.
He does have his five mid season predictions for the Bengals.
One has already come true. We'll see if the other
four do. Go read it U at the Athletic End
at Catches podcast The Growler, which I was a part

(55:03):
of today. It is available, as we say, where you
get your podcast. Our buddy Sean said, is going to
join us at five twenty today Where a Buffalo wild

Speaker 9 (55:19):

you name it, United Heartland Insurance, Can Insurance, Uhions dot Com.
Bengals have apparently acquired no defensive help with the trade deadline.
How do you think Joe Burrow feels about this? Vote
now on X at Molegger three Options. It is remarkable.

(55:53):
It wasn't that long ago where the NFL trade deadline
was a non event. It was the pickoff throw of
NFL events, and yet now it has turned into something
the teams actually used so just to quickly run down
the activity from today. If you're like me, you woke
up this morning and you got notifications that there were

(56:15):
two different deals that had gotten done. One was Khalil
Herbert being traded by the Bears to the Bengals, which
which again, fine, right, they needed a running back. Zach
Moss is on ir fine, they needed another running back.
I'm not sure the face of the Bengals changes all
that much, but they don't acquire defensive help. The other
one that came down this morning Zadaria Smith, the edge

(56:37):
rusher from the Browns, traded to the Lions along with
the seventh rounder in exchange for a five and a
six and so Detroit obviously, in the aftermath of losing
Aiden Hutchinson needed help on the edge. They get help
on the edge just today. And I'm not going to
get into all the compensation here because they don't have
a ton of time. Carolina trades Jonathan go to the Cowboys,

(57:01):
second time in the last couple of weeks. Carolina has
traded a wide receiver. Marshawn Lattimore goes to the Saints.
We are terrible. After starting two and zero, he gets
dealt to Washington Steelers trade for Mike Williams from the Jets.
The Steelers also acquire Preston Smith and the Packers an
edge guy slash side linebacker Tredavius White. The corner gets

(57:25):
traded by the Rams to Baltimore, and the Texans trade
Khalil Davis to the forty nine ers. What's interesting in
some of these deals is contender trading player to contender.
I think everybody in the NFC West is a contender.
The Bengals at least defensively on the outside looking in
and again, and the Marshaw Lattimore deal is a little

(57:46):
bit different, but you're not seeing major compensation being traded.
Latimore was acquired for a three and a four and
then that they acquired in a previous train this trade
this past summer. But by and large, like we're talking

(58:07):
about late round draft choices, assets that are valuable, but
comparatively speaking, not that valuable. So there you go. Trade
deadline comes and goes. Bengals defense is gonna have to
get better with the players they have. We'll see if
it gets better in time to keep the Ravens from
scoring forty one points on Thursday night twenty four from

(58:27):
five o'clock. We've just given away a couple of Bengals
golf hoodies thanks to bud Light. We've got the Bengals
cooler we're giving away thanks to bud Light. So if
you get here to b Dubs in Kenwood, you can
win reds might win something this offseason. I'll tell you
what that is next. On ESPN fifteen to thirty, Cincinnati
Sports Station.

Speaker 9 (58:49):
You've been listening to football in Minetti on the official

Speaker 9 (59:24):

Speaker 2 (59:33):
Sports headlines the service at Kelsey Chevrolet, home of Lifetime
power train protection and guarantee right of approval from their
family to yours forlife kelsey chef dot com. So Bengals
didn't trade for defensive health. They did trade a seventh
rounder for Khalil Herbert. He is a running back who
carried the ball eight times this season for the Chicago
Bears for sixteen yards. But he did score a touchdown,

(59:56):
so that's good. Bengals and Ravens. On Thursday Night, breaking
coverage starts at three live on ESPN fifteen thirty. Cincinnati
did place Zach Moss and Eric All on injured reserve.
College football Tonight, Miami takes on ball State Maction Tuesday
Night maction for the RedHawks as they take on the Cardinals.

(01:00:17):
That game is in Monsey. Couple of programming notes, The
Scott Saderfield Radio Show is on ESPN fifteen thirty tonight
at eight o'clock. You see is getting set to host
West Virginia. It might not feel like a five and
three team hosting West Virginia is playing a huge game. Look,

(01:00:37):
the Bearcats still have a chance to have like an
eight or nine win season. I don't think it's far
fetched to suggest that they could beat Iowa State and
Kansas State. I also don't think it's far fetched to
suggest they may play their last game looking for Bowl eligibility.
It would be great to kind of check that box.

(01:00:58):
Would also be the season over. Tony and I were
talking about this a little bit yesterday Tony and Mo
Football Show. UC's offense has stagnated in recent weeks, really
since the Houston game, and I think really to a
degree since the Texas Tech game, they have stagnated. Brendan
Sorosby has talked about his thumbs being healthier. They've they've

(01:01:19):
got to get things going, and let's be honest, regardless
of how they play the first I don't know, twenty
five twenty six minutes on Saturday, those final few moments
of the first half, you're gonna be wondering how they're
gonna screw it up. Next, huge game, big opportunity for
the Bearcats. And by the way, the Big twelve is
still wide open noon on Saturday. If you're looking for

(01:01:40):
the Scott Saderfield radio show tonight, it's going to be
on ESPN fifteen thirty. Also, the Red's Hot Stove League
Show is going to be tonight on Fox Sports thirteen
to sixty right before you see women's basketball as they
take on UI seeing the season opener, and then late
night tonight Columbus Bluejackets hockey at San Jose. So a

(01:02:01):
lot happening tonight. I mentioned the reds Hot Stove League.
Gordon Wittenmeyer of The Inquirer wrote a piece quoting Nick
Krawl expressing his desire to at least talk with Joey
Vado about a possible role in the organization. If they
do this, they win the award for most obvious offseason move.

(01:02:21):
Because why would you want Why would you not want
Joey Evado to be a part of your organization? First
of all, what role that would be? I have no idea.
Is it an on field role, is it a front
office role? Is it a hybrid role? Is it a
role where he's doing some front office work but also
contributing as a broadcaster because he dabbled in that a
couple of years ago when he was injured. I don't

(01:02:42):
know why would you want Why would you not want
Joey Vado around your baseball Like to me, it's Joey
invent the job, right, Because like I would, I would
get I would get the sense that if if Joey decided,
I want to be a coach, and I know the
Reds had a hitting coach in Chris of Balaka, but
I want to be a coach. Like whatever he does,
I would imagine he'll throw himself into it, right Like

(01:03:05):
we watched this guy his entire career throw himself into things,
even as hobbies like chess. It feels like he throws
himself into it. So you know, there are times where
you know, somebody gets hired and they're an advisor, but
it kind of feels like they're more of a hood
ornament than anything else. Like you hire Joey Evado, You're

(01:03:27):
hiring him, I think because he's serious about working in
the role that you're asking him to work. And now
again maybe it's off field, may maybe it's on field.
And maybe again they could be hybrid. We're doing some broadcasting,
could be some doing some team ambassador work. But why
wouldn't you want him around and why wouldn't you want
him around in some capacity around your players? You know

(01:03:51):
Joey's last season when he was you know, frankly not
that productive and often hurt, there was still no shortage
of stories involving players to talking about Joey pulling them aside,
offering a word of encouragement, offering advice, And I do
think that that was missing last season. Not that that

(01:04:12):
necessarily justified bringing Joey back, but I think that role,
that role wasn't filled last year, didn't feel like it
was filled last season. And then just from an emotional standpoint,
if you were bothered by how it ended, and I
will admit to you I was not, because I think
that the happy ending is overrated in this regard, like

(01:04:33):
it's sort of it adds another chapter and it allows,
I don't know, allows for the washing away of whatever
weird feelings there were at the end. If you bring
him back and again, what role he would be looking for,
how involved it would be, I don't know. But I

(01:04:55):
think it's good that they're asking. I think it's good
that they're interested. I think it's good that the interested
in acknowledging their interest. I think it's cool that you've
got a Hall of Fame manager in Terry Francona who
would certainly understand Joey Evado's value to the franchise, again
not really knowing what capacity that would be, but that

(01:05:15):
is a no brainer. So we have this incredibly thoughtful,
very helpful dude who's going to be in the Hall
of Fame one day, who's still young enough to relate
to our players, who is going to throw himself into
whatever role we ask him to fill or whatever role
he wants to fill. Like that's it's the most obvious
move of the offseason to at least inquire about his

(01:05:36):
interest and or availability. So we'll see what happens. And yeah, again,
that's the biggest moves of the offseason. Cannot be manager
and the role they have for Joey Evado, But why
would anybody be opposed to him coming back and being
part of this franchise in some capacity ten away from
five o'clock. By the way, we're guess free for the

(01:05:57):
next thirty minutes five point three, seven, four, nine, fifteen thirty.
If you want to jump on board, our buddy Sean
sayat Stats and Scheme Podcast will join us. I want
more than his thoughts on how the Bengals played against
the Las Vegas Raiders. How do you slow down the
Baltimore Ravens Because what they did against Cincinnati, they also
did against Tampa Bay, and they also did against Denver

(01:06:19):
scoring forty one points, and so you know that to
me is what first day comes. At some point, they're
going to need to get a stop against a Baltimore
team that has evolved and when they're at their best offensively,
it feels like everything comes easy for them. And as
good as the Bengals have been at times offensively this year,

(01:06:41):
that hasn't always been the case. So we'll talk about
that with Sean, and we'll hear the highly anticipated Joe
Burrow press conference as well. Coming up at five forty five.
We're Buffalo Wild Wings in Kentwood on ESPN fifteen thirty
Cincinnati Sports Station.

Speaker 1 (01:06:55):
Men here, if Houston is ESPN fifteen thirty.

Speaker 5 (01:07:00):
Oh, guess what day it is? Guess what day it is?

Speaker 2 (01:07:04):
Don dudes day? You know it could be Taco Tuesday.
But we're at Buffalo Wild Wings. And I'll be painfully
honest with you, painfully honest with you. I am a

(01:07:24):
Buffalo Wild Wings expert. But I get wings, and I
get cheeseburgers. The cheeseburger Buffalo Wild Wings is all. They
may have tacos here, and if they do, I've never
tried them. Today would be a good opportunity, I suppose,
because I guess it is Taco Tuesday. But when they've
got wings, when they've got burgers, what else.

Speaker 4 (01:07:42):
Do I need? Ice?

Speaker 2 (01:07:43):
Cold bud light as well. Worth The Buffalo Wild Wings
in Kenwood on Montgomery Road, very easy to get to.
We got a lot going on here. We just gave
away the greatest cooler of all time to maybe the
sweetest woman of all time, and so that was a
Brandy Brandy Joe I had won the cooler. Pretty good.
We got a lot going on here. We're here till

(01:08:05):
six o'clock tonight. You got buy one, get one half
of traditional Wings. You've got the six for nineteen ninety
nine special, which you cannot beat. You've got five dollars
bud like talls. You've got You know, there are sports
on TV tonight now, Miami and Balls date some maction, right,
I'd be honest. You can watch election coverage and you

(01:08:25):
can watch some maction. I know what I'm gonna watch,
and you could post up here at Wild Wings and
Buffalo Wild Wings and take in some of that delicious
Tuesday night maction. As the RedHawks try to take a
step toward Bowl eligibility, they are four and four, three
and one in the Mid American Conference, a game behind
Western Michigan. So there you go. Games on ESPN tonight.

(01:08:48):
So come on out, Buffalo Wild Wings and you are
good to go. It's been a busy day in the NFL.
A lot of trades Bengals made.

Speaker 12 (01:08:56):
One.

Speaker 2 (01:08:56):
Bengals traded for a running back, Khalil Herbert. This was obvious,
not have been obvious. They trade specifically for Khalil Herbert.
But Zach Moss has hurt. Zach Moss is on injured reserve.
They needed a running back. They got a running back.
Is Khalil Herbert gonna join this team and suddenly take
the Bengals from a team that doesn't want to run
the ball that much to the team that now is

(01:09:16):
gonna lean away from Joe Burrowing on its running game. No,
could he maybe help a little bit more in short
yarded situations? I kind of think the answer is yes.
But they needed a running back. They traded a running back.
They didn't give up that much. It is an obvious move.
If you think they get credit from making an obvious move,
then fine, but you know it's it's at least not

(01:09:37):
some washed up has been I saw some suggest you
go and you get a Zekiel Elliott who has fallen
out of favor with the Dallas Cowboys. Nah, I'm not
interested in washed up has beens. Zeke has had a
terrific career. I'm not interested in players who used to
be good. I'm interested in as sending players. I'm interested
in players in their prime, and I'm interested in players

(01:09:59):
who can fit a certain And look, they probably could
have plucked a running back off a practice squad. They
didn't do that. They traded for a guy. Granted he
hasn't been active on the game day roster the last
couple of weeks for Chicago, but he's not some dude
on a practice squad. And so for the role that
they were looking for Khalil Herbert to fill, they got

(01:10:20):
a guy who could probably fill that role.

Speaker 4 (01:10:22):
Fine.

Speaker 2 (01:10:23):
What they did not do is address the defense, which
I'm sorry was also obvious. Now, I do believe that
there is a decent chance as the second half of
the season unfolds, that the Bengals do enjoy some improvement defensively. Right,

(01:10:44):
teams do get better. Lou An Arumo has a bit
of a track record of having defenses that have kind
of caught on as the season has gone on, and
I think they could take advantage of some teams that
offensively aren't that good. Unfortunately, the one they play on
Thursday Night it is very good, perhaps the best offense
in the NFL. But I don't know how you could

(01:11:08):
have watched the Bengals defensively over the first nine games.
I don't know how you could examine their roster and
look at the defensive players they have and arrive at
the conclusion that the best strategy was maintaining status quo.

(01:11:28):
I don't think they could have made a move that
would have dramatically changed the personality or the face of
the defense, you know. And let's be honest. I I
think that maybe the most impactful player who was dealt
Marshawn Latimore will have something to say about this is
Zadaria Smith from the Browns that Cleveland wasn't trading him here.

(01:11:51):
But you know, I use I talk about small margin
or margin for error. Often the NFL is a small
margin for air. This is a small margin for air team.
They've played in some really close games. I don't know,
even just an incremental upgrade could have been maybe the
difference between you making the postseason and not making the postseason,

(01:12:12):
or you having a chance to still win the division
or not win the division. And I think it's reasonable
to be frustrated by the inability or unwillingness to do that,
and especially in a climate where a lot of deals
have gotten done. A lot of deals got done today.
I read the entire list for you here in a

(01:12:36):
little bit. The other two contending teams in the division
have added to their rosters in recent weeks, including the
Steelers twice today. I just can't help but think, and
you know, there were reports that they were sniffing around
and looking for defensive tackles. I just I can't help

(01:12:57):
but not give them the benefit of the doubt, meaning
I can't help but think that they could have made
their defense better by just showing a willingness to go
a little bit further than they usually do. And a
little bit further would not have meant they're giving up
a Day one or Day two pick. Look at what

(01:13:18):
God dealt around the league. Sixth rounders, seventh rounders, those
players are, or those picks are. They're not insignificant by
any stretch of the imagination, but relatively speaking, those assets
aren't that valuable, and so the unwillingness to move on

(01:13:41):
from them is frustrated. And I'd be willing to betman.
I got this as a poll question up on X
right now thanks to our friends at unit at Heartland Insurance.
I think Joe Burrow feels today Joe Burrow, and he's
often been up to the task. But what the Bengals
have I've kind of become about this year is just

(01:14:02):
saying to Joe, go do it all, Go go overcome
stuff for us, Go go do it all. And you
know what, overcome our defense? And I wonder how much
is demeanor after the game on Sunday reflected an exasperation
with that. We think Joe Burrow wanted the Bengals to
do with the deadline. Let's face it, to me, is

(01:14:22):
the most important person in the organization. What do you
think Joe Burrow wanted the Bengals to do with the
deadline when it comes to defense, hold onto their picks,
only use one on a running back that they needed,
or find somebody who can make that unit at least
a little bit better. I'm willing to bet well. You
can vote now at moeg or three different options. I'd

(01:14:42):
be willing to bet that Joe Burrow would have prefer
to see the Bengals go get some help on defense.
And it's one thing to look at the market and
go it's too rich for our blood. But if this
market was too rich for the Bengals blood, oh boy,
that's frustrated. And so now this team has to figure
out a way to get better enough defensively to find

(01:15:06):
a way to win. I don't know seven out of nine,
I guess not seven out of nine. They don't play
nine games. I mean, are are they going to be
good enough defensively to figure out a way over the
last eight games to win six of them?

Speaker 4 (01:15:25):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (01:15:25):
That to me, you might say, well, nine's gonna get
him in maybe, but I'll still make it ten. Can
that defense be good enough as currently constructed to get
the Bengals to ten victories? I'm gonna ask that question
to Sean Sayed when we come back. We're at beat
Ups bud Light five o'clock Happy Hour. By the way,

(01:15:46):
thanks to our friends at bud Light, We've got five
dollar bud Light talls, bud Light specials. We've got buy one,
get one half off traditional Wings We've got a lot,
so come on out and join us. We're here till
six o'clock The Ken with location Buffalo Wilde. Our buddy
Sean Sayad, Joe Burrow's gonna chat and I he's gonna
chat with this, but Joe Burrow's gonna speak coming up
at five forty five, and we got a lot going on.

Podcast A bust So is the Monday morning mashupcolumn at
Summer Sports dot Com, authored by our guy, Sean Sayad,
who has joined us every single week, oftentimes having to
answer my dumb questions after a Bengals loss, but on
occasion having to answer them after a Bengals victory. Cincinnati
beating the Las Vegas Raiders and now rematch with the

(01:16:55):
Baltimore Ravens is coming up. What's going on with man,
how are you?

Speaker 3 (01:17:00):
I'm doing well. You know, we of course had an
exciting trade deadline. I think, you know the Bengalsans may
have wanted a few more moves. I'm happy that were
some moves that we didn't see, but certainly a huge
week looking ahead to that Thursday night game.

Speaker 2 (01:17:11):
So I'll kind of put you on the spot with that.
You know, they they did make a deal. They needed
a running back. They got a running back, and we
could talk about him. But was there a player if
they were targeting defensive line help? But I think specifically
on the interior, is is there a player that they
could have traded for that you felt might have made

(01:17:33):
sense for them to make a real effort to go get.

Speaker 13 (01:17:37):
You know, we saw that move at the end where
the forty nine ers were able to have that defensive
tackle from the Tecans. Texans, I thought Plays Campbell maybe
was a candidate to move from the Dolphins, who I
think they've been struggling certainly a little bit. So you
look at it overall and say that they I would
have loved to see them.

Speaker 7 (01:17:53):
Make the move.

Speaker 13 (01:17:54):
I think overall, they look at that defensive unit and
needing so many pieces. So even though you're all in
every single season, when you have a guy like Joe
Burrow there, maybe you're able to build that defense back
up a little bit more through the draft.

Speaker 2 (01:18:07):
Uh. Do you know anything about Khalil Herbert?

Speaker 4 (01:18:12):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (01:18:12):
I do know a little bit about Clue Herbert.

Speaker 13 (01:18:14):
I think he's a little bit more of a zone
runner as opposed to a gap scene runner. And in
that game against the Raiders, the Bengals did seem to
lean into a little bit more of that zone running where,
of course fans are used to seeing Joe mix and.

Speaker 3 (01:18:26):
Running that style.

Speaker 13 (01:18:27):
So I think that you're able to, you know, take
up some of those carries away from Case Brown where
I mean this Brown was I felt looked really really
good in this last game, breaking a bunch of tackles.

Speaker 3 (01:18:38):
So, you know, is it gonna change your whole entire season?

Speaker 13 (01:18:40):
Maybe not, but I think it's an important piece when,
of course, you have Moss going down, which sounds like
it is maybe a longer term injury. So you have
a player that can have that zone running style, takes
them carries off Brown, and he about their offense.

Speaker 11 (01:18:54):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (01:18:54):
The Bengals beat the Raiders on Sunday, and yet you know,
Joe Burrow, he made a big deal about his postgame comments.
He wasn't happy with his performance. I don't think he
was happy with the overall offensive operation. Let me start
with the good. What did you like about what the
Bengals that offensively against against Las Vegas?

Speaker 13 (01:19:14):
You know, I think that Burrow is so locked in
comes through in those press conferences where of everyone, it
really felt like he had just an absolutely amazing day
where you're able to kind of complete those short passes,
you're able to have a really successful day.

Speaker 3 (01:19:28):
Throwing in that intermediate area.

Speaker 13 (01:19:30):
Some of those defaults didn't end up ass completions, but
I was really encouraged by what I saw from Mike Gadziki.
It feels like we've talked about him a few times
in our time talking together this season, because he is
a real rail threat for this offense. Of course, when
Higgins is there, he becomes the third threat. But even
when Burrows scrambling around and he's moving, he's able to
find Gasicki because Gaticki is really friendly.

Speaker 3 (01:19:51):
To him in getting open in moving with him, and Burrow.

Speaker 13 (01:19:54):
Was able to complete a bunch of passes on the move.
So overall, I think that is the highlight. I think
we're a or the offensive day. As I mentioned, I
like what I saw from Chase Brown. I think by
a bunch of our metrics, he'son one of the faster
running backs overall in the entire league. So I think
that you just hope to kind of continue to blend
that together. We're looking at this Ravens game on Thursday.

(01:20:14):
I mean, it's gonna be a.

Speaker 3 (01:20:15):
Whole lot of stuff on Joe Burrow's shoulders.

Speaker 2 (01:20:18):
Yeah, which is kind of part for the course, the
sloppiness that they have to clean up, and there was
a lot of that on Sunday. What stood out most, You.

Speaker 13 (01:20:29):
Know, of course, you get that pick six where that's
a throw that you're gonna make kind of often where
you're just getting out of a run play.

Speaker 3 (01:20:35):
Kind of throwing at the outside.

Speaker 13 (01:20:36):
Uh, you get baited a little bit there, but then
later on you have a play kind of off a
similar that ends up as a huge play to Gasiki.
And then you know, thinking about the defense in this
Ravens game, I think, you know that's gonna be something.
It's a really really monitor But of course, you know
Max Prosby was able to generate some pressure there. But
when you have ro shrugging off those rushers, that feels

(01:20:59):
like just the positive situation.

Speaker 3 (01:21:01):
And I really hope that, you know, the trade deadlines
pass would get.

Speaker 13 (01:21:05):
Key Higgins back there, get that receiving group at full strength,
and that can kind of raise everything up.

Speaker 2 (01:21:10):
Sean Sayatt is with US Stats and Scheme podcastsomer Sports
dot Com. Uh, walk me through. Look it's I could
look at I could I could look at the point totals,
and I could look at them statistically, and I can
even watch the games with a less critical lie and
tell you how good the Baltimore Ravens are offensively. But
it feels like from the beginning of the season, uh
through even the game they played here when they scored

(01:21:33):
forty one points, that there's been a really neat evolution
with that offense. When you watch them a little bit
more closely, has that been the case?

Speaker 13 (01:21:40):
I think that's a great way to look at it,
because in Lamar Jackson's last game, he had no design rushing,
like they can just play you straight up. He's happy
to play under center and get into that play action
game where you're opening at a team where trying to
make them play left handed means giving the ball to
Jarrick Henry a bunch of times.

Speaker 3 (01:21:56):
No one wants to deal with that.

Speaker 13 (01:21:58):
So I think that Lamar is doing just all of
the important aspects of playing quarterback so so well where
he is just playing better.

Speaker 3 (01:22:05):
Than an MVP season.

Speaker 13 (01:22:06):
So that's been a fun, fun evolution I think to
watch overall where you have a combination of Lamar Jackson
happy to play on the center, he can push you
around on the outside, he can run around the outside.
They of course add Deontay Johnson and I think Jay
Flowers continuing to improve their winning against man covered because
defense has played so much man coverage to try and

(01:22:26):
stop that run game. That's been a really really positive
aspect for the Ravens, who of course you have Todd
Mankin there in his second year and a lot of
times offensive coordinators you don't get them back for a
second year, but for them to continue to work together
solve problems and now you're looking back at things from
year one and changing them a little bit, just a
really really positive situation for I mean, one.

Speaker 4 (01:22:45):
Of the almost best teams in the league.

Speaker 2 (01:22:48):
All right, so how do you slow him down beyond
Trey Hendrickson getting nine sacks on Thursday night. What do
they do with with the personnel they have on defense
which they did not add to.

Speaker 13 (01:23:00):
I think it has to come down to similarly, you know,
in that first game, I thought there were times where
they played the run okay, you know they you do
everything that you put on early downs, you really stuff
that box. I think you try your best to just
win one on one matchups on the outside on the
defensive side, and it stinks to say, hey, we're going
to try and see if Lamart Dackson can beat us.
But you don't want to just view ground all the

(01:23:22):
way to dust through that interior in the run game.

Speaker 3 (01:23:25):
So you know, in that last game, it was a
real superhero performance from.

Speaker 13 (01:23:29):
Burrow and Jackson or you know, maybe Burrow even had
a better day offortunate they didn't fall their way, But
you know, I guess the only real way is to
see if he can do it again, and try and
stunt inside, try and just generate something where you can
create some sort of turnover, because look, the Ravens are
going to score a lot of points.

Speaker 3 (01:23:45):
It's just going to come down to you. If you
can score more than then.

Speaker 2 (01:23:48):
Why are they Baltimore? Why are they not great defensively?

Speaker 13 (01:23:52):
I think that they miss that just pass rush presence
that they had last year where they were like ninth
in pressure, right. I think this year they're around twenty
fifth or twenty six coming into that last week, and
that is a big drop off where if you're creating
pressure all the time, offenses are always really on their heels.
But now I think teams feel a little bit more

(01:24:13):
comfortable attacking over the middle in the past game, where
last year Ropewan Smith just felt like he knew every
single like where every single piece of the offense was
He's I think it's a little bit on of course,
you have Mike McDonald leaving there, Zach Or coming in,
just maybe the little parts of how the position is taught,
and it feels like you can attack them in the
past game where you're not getting rushed the same sort

(01:24:35):
of way.

Speaker 3 (01:24:35):
So the Ravens are now certainly a team.

Speaker 13 (01:24:37):
That their offense first as opposed to defense, I think
partially as different from that last year.

Speaker 2 (01:24:43):
As you've surveyed the trades that got done, which one
do you like the most?

Speaker 13 (01:24:48):
You know, I really do like that Marshawn Latimer trade.
I feel like that was a little bit rich. I
think the commander is obviously you have the cheek code.
Do you have that rookie quarterback contract where you feel
like that was a hit? I think that is that
can really boost the defense because I mean, Bengles fans,
I think, how if.

Speaker 3 (01:25:04):
You add a really good corner, that makes everyone else
in the job get a little bit easier sitting overall
on the move.

Speaker 13 (01:25:09):
You know, like when I look at the Jonathan Mingo trade,
I thought that was really positive for the Panther. The
Mike Williams trade, I thought that was positive for the Jets.
They felt like the teams that were trading these players away.

Speaker 3 (01:25:19):
We're getting a lot of capital back.

Speaker 13 (01:25:20):
And you know, we have to mention Jadarius Smith getting
out of the division and going to the Lions. I
think just really being a fourth wherefore, I think that
the Lions would have liked to had a guy like
Trey Henderson, but still adding a pass ructor who is
still productive is a positive thing there.

Speaker 2 (01:25:35):
Yeah, we like having Trey Hendrickson here. I just I
just wish he had some help and Bengals didn't acquire
any Sean awesome stuff is always man. I do appreciate it.
We'll chat in a week. Thank you so much.

Speaker 3 (01:25:47):
Thanks them talk to you then.

Speaker 2 (01:25:48):

that in mind. The injury report, obviously you guys like

(01:26:37):
Eric All and Zach Moss on it. They have been
placed on injured reserve. I'm looking here, Orlando Brown, after
not going yesterday, was limited today. Higgins did not go yesterday,
did not go today. It certainly doesn't bode well. For
his status on Thursday, no go as well for Charlie
Jones for a second consecutive day. Bengals Ravens Thursday night

Speaker 6 (01:27:35):
I mentioned my Bowling Green Falcons play tonight too.

Speaker 2 (01:27:37):
Thank you your bowling Green Falcons do play tonight. Mation
is not limited to that Miami tilt our teams play
against each other. You see Bowling Green game is next year, correct, Yes,
Falks take the place of Miami on the schedule and
Bowling Green in Miami. Correct me if I'm wrong. Both
three and one. There are three three and one teams

(01:27:59):
in the MAC correct, all right, so both could make
a move. Miami, Ohio U is three and one as well.
Miami beat them head to head. Is Bowling Green played Ohio?

Speaker 5 (01:28:11):
Uh no, we don't play Ohio.

Speaker 2 (01:28:12):
Okay, all right, Bowling Green at Central Michigan tonight at
Mount Pleasant, Michigan. There you go, big night of macchin.
We're at Buffalo Wild Wings here in Kenwood are Uh.
I was gonna do something else and I totally forgot
what it was. That's how I have never been more
of a disorganized mess. I hope it doesn't sound like it.

(01:28:35):
Joe Burrows Press conference. Next ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station.
Hey in Smutwegger, next time you're for twenty twenty five? Okay,
today's November the fifth, when the twenty twenty five baseball
season starts. Can we get that recut so it no
longer refers to the disabled list.

Speaker 4 (01:28:53):
To the DL.

Speaker 2 (01:28:54):
That's all I asked for, just that, not a very
demanding employee or Buffalo Wild Wings, where they have no
dema and employees they just have friendly employees that demand
you have a good time. And so if you're thinking
of a place to go for dinner, this is six
for nineteen ninety nine deal you cannot beat at ice
cold Bud Light as well. Joe Burrow had a press

(01:29:14):
conference on Sunday. Now he's got a press conference on Tuesday.
Here it is the quarterback of the Bengals chatting with
the assembled Pro football media.

Speaker 14 (01:29:25):
Got a chance to meet Khalil.

Speaker 6 (01:29:28):
Yeah, I just met him thirty seconds ago.

Speaker 14 (01:29:31):
As on the team going on and making a deal
for a position of meat.

Speaker 6 (01:29:35):
Yeah, it's something that we needed, I think, and I'm
glad that we went out and and tried to get better.
So you know, I think when I watched Khalil in
the past, I think we'll be able to help us.

Speaker 14 (01:29:49):
You know, you're probably not really interested in.

Speaker 12 (01:29:52):
Going down memory lane, but because of the timing and
who you're playing where.

Speaker 8 (01:29:58):
We think back to last year when suffered your risk
of injury. Do you remember after tuning hit from Clowney
what what your initial thought was and and did you
know kind of right away this might not be good,
like this might be really serious.

Speaker 6 (01:30:14):
Yeah, I wasn't sure what you think Initially I was
just focused on trying to figure out a way to
get back out there. But uh, you know, then you
try to throw and you realize it's not not gonna happen. Uh,
And then after the game, I kind of figured that,
you know, something wasn't great.

Speaker 12 (01:30:30):
How did you avoid the normal reaction of you had
just gotten healthy, You've gone through a serious injury with
your ACL and the various draining camp injuries.

Speaker 14 (01:30:41):
How did you avoid the woe is me moment when
you realize your season was.

Speaker 7 (01:30:46):
Over with another surgery.

Speaker 6 (01:30:47):
Yeah, it was definitely down the dumps, but I had
something I've been through before. I've dealt with these for
for several years, and I know how to get through them.
And you just got focus on getting better every day.
And you know, you know about a year down the road,
you're gonna feel fine and it's gonna be behind you.

(01:31:07):
So you just got to attack every day like you're
trying to get better and go from there.

Speaker 2 (01:31:13):
You're obviously.

Speaker 6 (01:31:16):
The past eight hours or so, Paul, you take a
couple of hours to relax, hang with some family after
the game, and then yesterday you get back to get
back to work. You watch your tape you get your
body right. You know, you just gotta move your process

(01:31:37):
up and try to fit as much as you can,
and the short amount of time that you have, my
body feels great. It's weird how your body just kind
of knows when you have to play a game and
you feel a little better. I don't after a game
than you normally would, So we're in a good spot.

Speaker 14 (01:31:55):
The nine or look.

Speaker 6 (01:32:00):
Didn't see those? Okay, I looked. I looked upset.

Speaker 5 (01:32:03):
I hope, so.

Speaker 6 (01:32:08):
Maybe maybe my demeanor could be a little better sometimes.

Speaker 2 (01:32:10):
Is that kind of where y'all are at?

Speaker 14 (01:32:12):
You just you just know, like it you shot up
the game, you should to know where you want to do,
you know what to day? Is that kind of just
a just kind of state of mind going into what
y'all want to use.

Speaker 6 (01:32:21):
Yeah, look, we played great on someday, but I'm not
going to ignore when there's things that I feel like
we could have done better. You know, maybe I could
have not let my emotions show quite as much. But
it's also something that I've tried to do more, and

(01:32:44):
I know people in the locker room have wanted me
to do a little more, whether good.

Speaker 11 (01:32:50):
Or bad.

Speaker 5 (01:32:50):
But you can't.

Speaker 6 (01:32:53):
I don't think at least I can't show my emotion positively,
positively and then when things don't go well not let
that be known as well. You know, I could have
handled it a little differently, but uh, that's how I spemes.

Speaker 14 (01:33:10):
How comfable you feel paid in that goal and kind
of paid more bonstered it.

Speaker 6 (01:33:14):
I guess it's a give and take. You know.

Speaker 5 (01:33:20):
I know that.

Speaker 6 (01:33:23):
People feed off of my emotion and a positive way,
and you know it's tough for me. You know, as
a quarterback, I think you have to you know, I
play my best when i'm I'm just like this, I'm not,
you know, up.

Speaker 5 (01:33:42):
And down and.

Speaker 6 (01:33:45):
Pissed and then happy and all that. I play my
best when I'm just even keeled. So you know, I
pick my spots where I feel like I need to
say something, whether positive or negative, and at the same
time balance That's what I feel like I need to
do to to go out and play great.

Speaker 2 (01:34:02):
What's the biggest game short week for you? Uh?

Speaker 15 (01:34:06):
In getting ready for a team like Baltimore, which obviously
there is some backup.

Speaker 6 (01:34:10):
Because they're a different Yeah, that's when you play divisional
opponent on Thursday. It's a team, you know, so you
can you know what you're gonna see. You know the
patterns of the coverages and the safeties. Uh, you know
for the most part what works well, what doesn't, And
so you can uh put in maybe a little more

(01:34:34):
than you usually would play in a new team where
it's a divisional opponent, you know, you know the defense,
so then you can put more in a short week
game plan wise, you have like fifty three.

Speaker 14 (01:34:45):
Hours until kickoff. Can you get Khalil on the same
page as you? Is that realistic?

Speaker 11 (01:34:51):
How? Uh?

Speaker 6 (01:34:52):
Yeah, yeah, I think so, I think so. Uh, you know,
we'll find out, I guess, but uh, you know, football
is is football for the most part, you know, a
couple of new languages. But he's right there next to me,
so I can tell him what to do when he's
out there. You know, we'll see him how how much
he ends up playing. But you know, I'm I'm confident

(01:35:14):
that that we can get him right.

Speaker 14 (01:35:16):
So time made clipts Thursday nice.

Speaker 6 (01:35:19):
Special version can attack it, Yeah you can. It might
happen on game day too, where it's just like he's
standing next to me, he doesn't know what to do,
and I s lean over and tell him. Uh, he's
right next to me, so, uh, that's an easy thing
for me to do.

Speaker 14 (01:35:31):
Why did you say that that y'all went on and
trying to go.

Speaker 6 (01:35:36):
Well? I think one with with Zach's injury. You know,
that's tough. He was playing really well for us and
we haven't been good enough this year to to win
the amount of games that we want to and you know,
to to make a move like that and try to
improve the team mid season, uh is positive.

Speaker 14 (01:35:58):
What kind of message you think that sends you all
as a as.

Speaker 2 (01:36:00):
A the players in the locker room that you are going.

Speaker 6 (01:36:02):
Out and look at what he's going to prove long ye,
I think that that shows that they believe in in
the players on this team to to go and do
what we want to do this year. You know, maybe
there was holes here and there, but you know they
they wanted to go out and and improve the team

(01:36:23):
for this stretch and that's exciting and positive for for
our team.

Speaker 2 (01:36:27):
I think what do you think Kyle likelil could for
him to this team this begining the Baltimore that doesn't
really know him, Like you said, you guys know he
tally so well and then.

Speaker 6 (01:36:37):
Yo as well yeah, I think you know, Number one,
I hear he's good in pass protection. You know, that
might be tough to get him on, you know, blocking
the right guy on third down blitzes this week. So
we'll see what h his role ends up being. But uh,
number one, that and number two just take some carries
off Chase. Uh you know he had twenty seven carries

(01:36:58):
last week. Played great, played great in the past game too.
Uh So now you know, maybe throw him a couple
couple runs here and there, a couple of passes to
to take the load off Chase a little bit.

Speaker 16 (01:37:09):
So you think you're a what you do out of
the pocket and climbing the clocket he's in. Is that
Bealely the key to the red zone success? Just trying
to I'm not to stay in the street, but I mean,
is that what a lot of it is down here?

Speaker 14 (01:37:24):
Yeah?

Speaker 6 (01:37:24):
You watch across the you watch across the league, and
it's a lot of when you're down there, it's a
lot of quarterbacks making plays. You know, it's tough to
draw stuff up to get guys wide open, just because
you have ten yards to work with and you gotta
be quick and decisive. And you know, we do we
pl run concepts that I'm comfortable with, so I know

(01:37:46):
when something's gonna come open and when something's not. And uh,
I'm always confident in my ability to get out of
the pocket and make a play, whether it's run, running
in or find somebody on the back line throwing shample.

Speaker 16 (01:37:59):
And then so that day pitch you always said it's
it's okay to break the cat and the sin.

Speaker 6 (01:38:04):
What did you'd be smart about it?

Speaker 14 (01:38:05):
What did you see the like that later if you
knew what you work on the.

Speaker 6 (01:38:08):
Game, you think you couldn't do when well, Drew was
really he was blocking. He was blocking the defensive end
on the play, and I was able to get around
the edge, and Drew, being the smart player that he is,
realized that it was a scramble situation. Uh, and just
went and found a zone for me. So, uh, that's
a great job by Drew.

Speaker 15 (01:38:25):
Does a preparation on the on the week of the
Thursday game feel like grading for a test back in school.

Speaker 6 (01:38:31):
Yeah, I mean today is basically two and a half
days in one. So we're we're here for a while
getting the base downs, then third downs, and then getting
a little preview of the red zone. You know, there's
not a lot of time to get it done. That's
why playing in a divisional opponent is advantageous on a

(01:38:54):
Thursday night. But yeah, it it takes a toll on you,
for sure, but the the the little by weekend is
worth it. Afterwards, do you.

Speaker 15 (01:39:04):
Try to make it conscious effort to make it feel
like a normal week or you just go into.

Speaker 14 (01:39:09):
It think and like it's not a normal way forget
that it.

Speaker 6 (01:39:12):
Tay, Yeah, you don't really, you can't go through your
normal process. You can't go through you know, all the
things you normally do and you know, take a second
and relax. Those are just things you don't have time for.
And whenever you're I always have the feeling whenever I'm
out there warming up on Thursday before the game, it's like,
dang's here already. I can't believe we're about to play
another game.

Speaker 5 (01:39:32):
But uh, it goes fast.

Speaker 14 (01:39:35):
How important was.

Speaker 15 (01:39:36):
It to spread it around last Sunday to get a
lot of guys that may have not felt you know
in the movement? Uh catches the football? That can that
be beneficial for like.

Speaker 6 (01:39:48):
Theres another Yeah, I think so I have confidence and
everybody that steps out there and we expect everybody to
step that steps foot on the field to to be
effective and play up to our standard, and I think
everybody did on Sunday. You know, it kind of just
depends on the team that you're playing. The team on
Sunday mixes up their coverages a lot, and so you
never know where the ball is gonna end up when

(01:40:11):
you play a team like that. Certain teams are more
predictable pre snap and then you can kind of move
guys around and get guys where you want to depending
on the route and the coverage. But you know, some
teams like to mix it up, and that was one
of those days.

Speaker 2 (01:40:30):
